I love the hange head cannons could you do something similar with korra?
Yes! Also this is for everyone( I didn't put it in my last work because I forgot) please dont reblog or repost with giving me credit.
Dating Korra would be like:
When Korra first met you she was a mess. Her face was red and she was having a hard time talking.
Over time you to got to know eachother and she asked you out. You said yes and she took you to her favorite restaurant.
Korra is very protective. She needs to protect you, I mean, she's the avatar. If she cant protect you. Who can she protect?
She loves PDA, it's her way of letting everyone know you're hers. Small bites or kisses in public never hurt anyone.
If you dislike a lot of PDA she'll respect your wishes, but be PREPARED! She'll be even worse in private. She wont let you go until she feel it's enough.
She loves and trusts you with all her heart so please don't break it. Whenever you fight she gets stubborn and wont apologize.
She'll end up crying and coming back after an hour or two.
Depending on your bending abilities, or if you can bend at all, Korra will train with you. She needs you to be ready in case something happens. She can't lose you.
If you bend fire, water, or earth she's going to be a great mentor. If you're an air bender, not so much...
I'd you can't bend, Korra will train you in hand to hand combat. She loves seeing you workout with her, it's a bonding activity in her eyes.
She'll introduce you to people as her future wife, and will more than likely tease you if you get flustered. If not Korra will find other ways to make your face all pink.
Shes very trustworthy, you can tell her anything. Whatever your thinking, she'll reassure you and talk you through it.
You're her baby, her pretty girl, she'll help you no matter what. Believe me, she loves every bit of you, and she will frequently remind you of that.
NSFW UNDER THE CUT
S W I T C H if I ever seen one!
She loves it when you eat her out. Do it, just once and she's shaking.
She'll beg, and I mean beg. She cries and squeaks, begging for you to slow down. Of course when you do, she begs for you to get faster.
She'll pull on your hair and scratch at your scalp. While her nails are cut down she had a tendency to bite.
(Were gonna pretend straps exist here) She'll bite your neck, arms, chest where she can. Depending on the position, you'll either have multiple very visible marks or multiple non-visible marks.
Now for when Korra is on top? That's a whole new story. She's a soft dom, but dont think that means she wont put you in your place. It just means you'll get more chances, with her at least.
Korra loves to chase you, she finds it cute how you think you're going to win. In the end she'll have you in her arms, taking her strap, begging for more. Your little game of cat and mouse is over quite quick.
She'll either hold you down, or tie you up. It all depends on how you act, if your good, ropes aren't involved. If you're bad...
Dont think that she's going to hurt you though. After having you so many times she get to understand what you like and dislike. Korra can be very rough or very gentle, but you have to voice it.
She could degrade you, or praise you. Call you her pretty girl, or treat you like you're mud under her boot.
"Darling, I know, I know it hurts but you're doing so well. I'm so fucking proud of you! You look so beautiful with my cock buried in your pussy!"
Or
"Ugh, you cant do anything right, can you? I'm getting tired of someone who can't even take my cock properly. Fucking slut! You need me? Hm?"
Trust and believe the aftercare is GODLY that woman knows how to treat you like the princess you are. Water, food, whatever you want, she'll get it.
She just loves you so much, so believe she's going to spoil you.
I really hope you liked it!

Could you do Korra x Amon’s child (gn) who was originally working as a spy for Amon, but ends up betraying him for Korra?
Korra x Amon’s gn!child who betrays him for Korra hcs
As Amon’s child, you’ve always been in the shadow of his expectations
When he sends you to spy on Korra, the task seems daunting but necessary
You’re instructed to gain her trust and learn her weaknesses
Your first meeting with Korra is nerve-wracking
You pose as a new ally in Republic City, someone who believes in her mission but wants to help from the sidelines
Slowly, you start to earn Korra’s trust as she’s still in her naive era
You offer to run errands, gather information, and act as a reliable support
Each day you spend with Korra, you feel a growing unease
The more you get to know her, the harder it becomes to reconcile your mission with the person you’re supposed to betray
Korra starts confiding in you, sharing her fears and frustrations
You listen attentively, all the while feeling a pang of guilt knowing your true purpose
While Korra begins to trust you, her friends are more skeptical
Tenzin and Mako keep a close eye on you, always wary of newcomers
This constant scrutiny adds to your stress
To prove your loyalty, you help Korra and her friends on several occasions, providing vital information that genuinely aids their cause
Each successful mission makes you question your allegiance even more
You and Korra share several bonding moments—training sessions, late-night conversations, and even a few laughs
Korra starts feeling a strange sense of attachment towards you
She’s confused by her feelings, as she’s never been in this situation before, especially with someone who isn’t part of her core group
Korra becomes increasingly protective of you
Whenever a mission gets dangerous, she’s always looking out for your safety, which doesn’t go unnoticed by the others
Korra’s behavior sends mixed signals
One moment she’s friendly and open, the next she’s distant and guarded
She’s struggling with emotions she doesn’t quite understand
You both open up about your pasts, sharing stories that make you both feel vulnerable yet closer
Of course you can’t say anything that would give away your family
There are moments when you catch Korra looking at you with an intensity that makes your heart race
It’s clear there’s something more between you, but neither of you can articulate it
The tension between you grows
You both sense it but are unsure how to proceed
For Korra, it’s a confusing mix of emotions she’s never had to deal with before
Korra spends sleepless nights trying to sort out her feelings
Her duty as the Avatar clashes with her growing attachment to you, creating a whirlwind of confusion
One night, as you watch Korra practice bending, it hits you—you have feelings for her
The realization is terrifying because you know it can’t happen
Your loyalty to Amon conflicts with your heart
You start avoiding Korra, fearing that your feelings will betray your mission
Every time she tries to talk to you, you find an excuse to leave, which confuses and hurts her
You spend sleepless nights wrestling with your emotions
Betraying your father feels wrong, but so does the idea of betraying Korra
The internal struggle is tearing you apart
During a particularly vulnerable moment, Korra expresses how much she values your friendship
Her words are like a knife to your heart, knowing you can’t reciprocate honestly
The more you realize you’re falling for Korra, the more you panic
You know your mission will eventually come to light, and you fear losing her trust and friendship
Your behavior becomes erratic
Some days you’re overly affectionate, other days you’re cold and distant
Korra notices but doesn’t understand the reason behind your mood swings
You start doubting your own worth
How can someone like you, tied to Amon’s cause with him being your father, ever deserve someone as pure and dedicated as Korra?
Keeping the secret of your true identity becomes unbearable
Every moment with Korra is tinged with the fear of discovery, making it harder to enjoy the time you have together
You start imagining a life where you’re free from Amon’s influence, where you can openly care for Korra
These daydreams make the reality of your situation even more painful
Despite your growing feelings, you’re in denial
You convince yourself that there’s no way Korra could ever feel the same, and even if she did, it would never work out because of your ties to Amon
Korra catches you in a small lie, and though she doesn’t press the issue, it leaves you rattled
You’re constantly on edge, fearing that your true mission will be revealed
Despite your internal conflict, there are moments of tenderness between you and Korra
A touch, a shared laugh, a look that lingers a second too long
These moments only deepen your internal turmoil
You avoid any serious conversations with Korra, fearing that the truth will slip out
It creates a distance between you that neither of you can fully understand
You’re caught between two worlds—the life you’ve always known under Amon and the new life you’re building with Korra
The stress of maintaining this balance is overwhelming
You repress your emotions, convincing yourself that you can’t afford to feel this way
But the more you suppress, the stronger the feelings become, creating a ticking time bomb inside you
Korra decides to confront Amon alone, believing it’s the only way to end the conflict
You find out about her plan and your heart sinks, knowing how dangerous it is
Despite your orders from Amon, you follow Korra
You can’t bear the thought of her facing him alone, even if it means revealing your true identity
As Korra confronts Amon, he ambushes her with his Equalists
The fight is brutal, and you’re forced to watch from the shadows, torn between helping her and maintaining your cover
Amon corners Korra, preparing to remove her bending
He calls out to you, revealing your presence and your true mission and family
Korra’s eyes widen in shock and betrayal as she realizes you’ve been spying on her
Before Korra loses consciousness, she looks at you with a mixture of hurt and disbelief
Amon’s revelation shatters the trust you’ve built, leaving you feeling more lost than ever
The next time Korra sees you, she’s furious
Her anger is palpable, and she’s ready to fight you
The betrayal cuts deep, and she demands answers, her voice shaking with emotion
Before Korra can attack, Lin intervenes, separating the two of you
The tension is thick, and you’re left feeling conflicted and guilty, unable to meet Korra’s gaze
Korra’s rage is a storm, and she vents to her friends about your betrayal
Her feelings are a tangled mess of anger, hurt, and confusion
You’re consumed by guilt, questioning every decision that led to this moment
You wonder if there’s any way to make things right or if you’ve lost Korra forever
Despite the hostility, you try to convey your apologies through small actions—helping the team, offering support from a distance
But Korra’s anger creates a barrier that’s hard to breach
The inner turmoil intensifies
You’re torn between your loyalty to Amon and your growing feelings for Korra once again
The weight of your decisions presses heavily on your shoulders
Korra struggles with her feelings
Her trust in you is shattered, but there’s a part of her that still cares for some reason
The conflict between her head and heart leaves her restless
Every time you see Korra, the guilt gnaws at you
A new threat emerges, and Korra is in grave danger
Amon plans to strike a decisive blow, and you know this is your chance to make things right
As Amon moves to remove Korra’s bending, you act
With all the small courage you can muster, you attack him from behind, buying Korra precious moments to escape
Seeing that Korra can’t run on her own, you scoop her up and flee
Your heart races as you navigate the chaotic streets, determined to get her to safety
Korra, weakened and in pain, clings to you
Her trust may be broken, but in this moment, she has no choice but to rely on you
The weight of her trust, even if temporary, feels both empowering and terrifying
You finally reach a safe place, reuniting with the team
Korra is barely conscious, and you can see the concern in her friends’ eyes as they rush to help her
While the others gather supplies, you stay by Korra’s side, tending to her wounds
The cuts and bruises on her body are a stark reminder of the price she’s paid for your actions
You keep a silent vigil by her bedside, watching over her as she sleeps
The weight of your guilt is heavy, but your determination to protect her is stronger
The nights are long and sleepless as you replay the events in your mind
You wonder if Korra will ever forgive you, or if this act of redemption will be enough to atone for your betrayal
You provide small comforts—cool cloths for her forehead, whispered reassurances, and gentle touches
It’s all you can offer in your current state of regret and fear
The shadow of Amon looms over you
You know that by saving Korra, you’ve declared yourself an enemy of your father
Korra’s friends are skeptical of your intentions
They question your motives, unsure if they can trust you
You try to prove yourself through actions, knowing words are not enough
Despite the uncertainty, you draw strength from your newfound purpose
Protecting Korra becomes your sole focus, a way to atone for your past mistakes
As you care for Korra, your actions are filled with unspoken apologies
Every touch, every gesture is a plea for forgiveness, even if she’s not awake to hear it
Korra wakes up, her body aching and her mind foggy
As her eyes adjust to the dim light, she sees you slumped in a chair beside her, beaten and bruised
Her first reaction is confusion, followed quickly by concern
Despite everything, seeing you injured stirs something protective within her
Korra realizes that you must have fought Amon to save her
The bruises and cuts on your body tell a story on its own
As she watches you sleep, Korra feels a mixture of emotions—anger, betrayal, gratitude, and something deeper she can’t quite name
Korra takes the time to quietly observe you, noting the weariness and pain etched into your features
You wake up to find Korra watching you
Panic sets in as you remember everything that’s happened
You start to ramble, apologizing profusely for your betrayal and for putting her in danger
The guilt overwhelms you, and you can’t stop the flood of words
You confess your feelings of confusion, your struggle between loyalty to Amon and your growing affection for Korra
In your rambling, you accidentally let slip that you have feelings for her
The realization hits you like a punch to the gut, and you try to backpedal, embarrassed and terrified of her reaction
You stand to leave, wanting to escape the room and the awkwardness
You can’t bear the thought of facing Korra after such a confession as you barely can do so after what you did
Despite her weakened state, Korra grabs your arm, stopping you from leaving
Her grip is firm, and there’s a fire in her eyes that takes your breath away
Without words, Korra pulls you closer
She doesn’t fully understand her feelings, but she knows she doesn’t want you to leave
In a moment of vulnerability and raw emotion, Korra leans in and kisses you
It’s tentative and unsure, but it’s filled with all the feelings she can’t yet articulate
The kiss is a release for both of you—a culmination of tension, confusion, and unspoken desires
It’s a moment of connection that transcends the chaos around you
As you pull away, you both know that things will never be the same
There are still obstacles to overcome, but in that moment, you both feel a glimmer of hope for the future
The future is uncertain, but for now, you take comfort in the newfound bond between you
Over time, you work to rebuild trust with Korra to her friends
Your actions speak louder than words, and slowly, they begin to see the sincerity in your efforts
You and Korra share more moments of vulnerability, learning to trust each other completely
Your relationship grows stronger, forged in the fires of adversity
The inevitable confrontation with Amon looms, but this time, you face it with Korra by your side
With Amon’s defeat, you carve out a new path for yourself
As you look towards the future, you know that whatever challenges come, you’ll face them together
What started as a mission of betrayal becomes a story of love, trust, and unbreakable bonds

Legend of Korra First Watch: Book 3 Thoughts
Full thoughts under the cut!
-----Fight choreography and animation is even better, was absolutely amazing to watch.
-----Zaheer and The Red Lotus are a much better antagonistic force than Unalaq. The bar is low of course, but it's actually such a difference in quality.
Now, Unalaq formerly being a part of the Red Lotus? Eh, okay sure, I guess. Idk how considering his bending isn't all that's cracked up to be and he gets his way through manipulation and sneak attacks most of the time.
Each major member of the Red Lotus is intimidating and a force to be reckoned with, and that makes each encounter with them a sight to see. I've got to be honest however: could've used a little work on the personality side. Zaheer is obviously exempt of course, but the others come just short of being as personable or as engaging as Tarrlok. There were attempts of course! Mako and Bolin talking with Ghazan and Ming-Hua, as well as P'li's relationship with Zaheer are good moments of characterization, but I feel it just misses the mark.
...Though, thinking about it, I could be incorrect. There's plenty to glean from their personalities just through what they do in the journey to get to Korra. Ghazan is affable and calculated, bringing down entire structures with surgical lava strikes. Ming-Hua is fucking nuts, and is most prone to violence as a way to counter-balance her lack of a rare skill. P'li is determined and is the most dangerous when considering how damn calm she is. It's little wonder that each of them meet their ends when getting these aspects taken advantage of: Ghazan's fear of going back to prison overtakes his laid-back attitude, and that in tandem with Bolin learning lava-bending and being fought by him and Mako, he crumbles and tries to take them down with him. Ming-Hua's love of the hunt narrows her mind, and she doesn't even consider how her water-arms can be used against her, especially by a firebender; it's little wonder she gets electrocuted, she probably didn't think or wonder if Mako could do it, and is so full of herself that she thought she could take anyone so long as she has water. P'li, in spite of her calm demeanor, is so cemented in her role and making sure Zaheer is alright that she misses how she's kind of an easy target. She's strategically always put in places where she's just out of reach so she has the greatest advantage and the lowest chance of getting hurt, but loses whenever her blind spots are used against her. Her blind spots are getting hit in the third eye, anything that's not in front of her or in her peripheries... and Zaheer. When Zaheer is out of his element, she loses concentration; her earthly tether is in danger so she gets more frazzled, which is ironic considering Zaheer himself got more dangerous when he loses P'li entirely.
-----Zaheer himself is extremely compelling and interesting to think about. Anarchism is something that's not taken seriously by most of the general public because they have a shallow view of what anarchism is. It's the skepticism and dislike of authoritarian institutions that divide and beat down the marginalized, such as capitalist nation-states. But like every school of thought, it has extreme, utopian, and dangerous limits and sects. In Zaheer's case, he believes disorder is natural and something that people will come out of stronger for it.
He has a point to a certain extent (and trust me, as a leftist, I'm aware that TLOK falls into a similar liberal writing trap that ATLA did in that bad people who have good points/ideas are written to be even more evil in their actions in order to undermine their ideas as a whole, but that kind of discussion is best saved for a different day), but his extreme relies upon two fallacies: one, that people will maintain the freedom that goes by his design-which if the Red Lotus were to try and maintain that design, he'd just end up a hypocrite-and two, that people wouldn't just band around another leader. In fact, creating such a big power vacuum could lead to an even more oppressive force to take over in the previous one's destruction. And I know all about the fascist-allegory in season 4 of LOK, so... yeah, that didn't work.
Something else I like about him is how he's almost a corruption of Air Nomad culture. Freedom's negative extreme is chaos and selfishness, and it's in deep contrast to what Tenzin wants the new Air Nation to accomplish at the end of the season, which is harmony and justice. So in a way, Zaheer got a little of what he wanted, but ironically in losing all his tethers, he lost what makes a person a person, and becomes so utterly lost in his self-made void of emptiness, that when brought back to the earth, he loses his mind.
Thinking back on it, it's what I liked about Amon and Tarrlok as well. Water is the element of change, and the water tribe celebrates community and emotion. The natural negative extremes of that is enforced rules and proticols to quell unrest and protect the people from themselves, which is like trying to redirect a powerful river (Tarrlok), and violent, immediate social unrest and revolution, which is like a sudden current shift or careening down a waterfall (Amon). Were I to think on it more, I could probably do a similar thing with Unalaq and the Water Tribe civil war, but given I just pulled the previous examples out of my head near instantly, it kind of goes to show that Book 2 is a bit too bloated with other things for me to properly dissect and reconnect the philosophy to the elements of it.
-----I think Tenzin has moved into comfort character territory for me, I just love whenever he's onscreen. The weight of the air nation culture on his shoulders was resolved last season, but it comes back now that harmonic convergence re-established balance by having new air benders pop up. I think that was a fair way to bring back his angst, and it parallels neatly with Jinora's continued main role as an airbending master and spiritual guide in her own right. What Tenzin lacked in natural talents or skills in maintaining community, he makes up for in raw experience, and its vice versa with Jinora. The air family's dynamic was always a treat to experience, and Kai's introduction into the show was quite beneficial IMO. It gave Jinora an earthly tether and all the good and bad that comes with it (heightens her immaturity and rebelliousness, but also fosters a better connection with her spiritual side and improves her ability to talk and direct others).
Back to Tenzin and him being a comfort character though... Guys I was almost brought to tears when the Northern Air Temple was attacked. I hated seeing Tenzin get beat up, like I was actually upset. "As long as I'm breathing, it's not over." 🥹🥹🥹
-----Lin and Suyin! I like their dynamic a lot, and I'm so happy that Lin is a major character again in this season. The Beifong family is fun to watch, and I like how stubborn each of the sisters were, until Opal-much like an airbender would-was able to enlighten them by reminding them of their sisterhood and love for each other. Achieve freedom from your past by letting go of resentment, and all that.
Given that Kuvira was introduced in this Book, I expect Lin and Suyin to have even more screen time next season, and with that I also expect deeper moments to comment on. I have other thoughts I could share, but I think watching season 4 would make them more solidified. Also, Suyin voiced by Anne Heche? Absolutely love, it's a treat for the ears.
-----Bolin and Mako! Finally I have nothing but positive things to say about each of them! Now that they're not sharing the spotlight with police drama or political bureaucracy, they have new opportunities to grow. I'm glad they got to meet their Earth Kingdom family, and as a mixed kid myself, I have a soft spot for mixed ancestry depictions in shows.
Bolin thrives when he's having a crisis about his identity and who he wants to be; giving him lavabending (something relatively unique) instead of metal-bending (something most other earthbenders, now including Korra, can do) is brilliant, as it gives him an opportunity to chart his own path on almost uncharted territories, rather than try to fit into the mold.
Mako thrives when his connections to his family and his past are brought to the forefront; he's always been a talented bender, but his power as a bender and his goodness as a person, shine brightest when he needs to help/encourage Bolin, when giving Kai advice, when rescuing his extended family, or when he's reminiscing on his past on the streets. He's out of his element when boxed into a poorly written love triangle, and boring to watch when he's a police officer. He's a great watch when he's freed from those restrictions, and it's a great layer to the overall theme of freedom in Book 3.
-----Man Korra was put through the wringer in this season. Now, I still don't like how the connections to past avatars was done as a consequence to Raava getting defeated, but I do like how it impacts Korra as a character, when deciding her own path without needing to seek advice at every turn. I... don't think it results in a completely rash decision on her part, just that her insecurity over being considered a poor Avatar means she's more willing to self-sacrifice for the benefits of overs, even if it means everyone suffers in the long term.
I was so proud of her character at the end of the season but also so heartbroken when she was shown in the wheelchair. She's so despondent, and it's clear that it's not just physical trauma she's suffering from anymore. I hope season 4 capitalizes on this.
Honest confession, I was crying heavy during the final scene during Jinora's tattoo ceremony, for multiple reasons. Jinora reaching her peak and being respected for her mastery, Tenzin being proud, Korra being traumatized, and Korra crying both because of her experiences as an Avatar so far and because-or at least what I headcanon-it's subtly Aang also crying through her seeing his culture and people restored. I just think it's a bittersweet and emotionally well done finale to the season.
-Korrasami ship tease in this season was so cuuuuuute!!! Sorry if this is an awkward way to end this post, but I just really like them together. Any time it's just the two of them, I smile. I wish there was more overt ship tease, but I understand it was the execs behind the scenes breathing down the necks of the writers. At least Korrasami won out in the end.
Book 4 is next! What a wild ride it's been!

Been in a huge avatar tla mood so here are my few avatar takes.
Avatar is a show that can be done perfectly in live action as long as the people working on it are fans of the show and do their research. Shyamalan was clearly not and thats one of the main reasons the live action movie was bad.
The movie while awful had good cg for it's time and the elements themselves looked good the main issue with that was the fact that they did not pay attention to which martial arts the bending styles were based off of and just did whatever they wanted.
Despite the whole "losing past lives" thing Korra wasn't a bad avatar and she's far from the worst(Roku holds that title)
However she was a very unlikable character for a vast majority of the first and second season so i understand why people have their issues with her she genuinely has alot of writing flaws that make her hard to enjoy.
Usually when i express my feelings about Korra people always respond with "you only hate her because she's a bisexual female avatar" and i then have to point out that my favorite avatar is Kyoshi who aside from being an absolute unit is also a bisexual female avatar.
Kyoshi is the best avatar and deserves her own series.
Was neat seeing Avatar Wan in LOK but i personally would’ve preferred having a mini series with him instead just of the 2 episodes. we got.
Zutara is an awful ship and is only popular because of the tired tropes of opposites attract/fire water/good girl bad guy/enemies to lovers. Despite the voice actors pushing it Zuko and Katara have a total of 2 moments together on screen that mean anything one of them is katara realizing that zuko has also suffered because of the war and the other is katara forgiving him for betrayal neither of which are romantic in any way.(I also simply do not like the enemies to lovers trope in general and the only time i feel it works is when the enemy in question is just on the opposing faction and hasn't actually hurt the other character directly.
Sokka not having kids and having an ambiguous fate has to be one of the weirdest decisions ever made by the writers.
The Live action show will be good.
Iroh deserves his own series
Bumi is the most interesting out of all of Aang and Kataras children.
Korrasami is a dope ass relationship that didn’t get the development needed to be great.
Korra not having her past lives anymore makes the concept of the avatar kinda dumb and only works best with Wan since he is Literally the first.
The biggest flaw of the LOK is how the most exciting moments of the show don't come from Korra but from Aang and his team avatar and their kids.
Kataang isn't an amazing ship at all but The people who shit on shit simply refuse to understand the reason why they work so well
#avatar: the last airbender#avatar the legend of korra#alta aang#tlok korra#zuko#katara#kataang#kyoshi#anti zutara

Sunbeam of the Soul
Written for Amorra Week 2023 @amorraweek2023 for Day 2: Wrestling.
Rating: G.
Tags: Post-Season/Series 01, Training, Bonding, First Kiss, Fluff.
Summary: Korra. The person who looks at him like, someday, things could be better.
Notes: The fanfic is under the cut if you're more comfortable reading on Tumblr!
~~~
He doesn’t recall the last time people looked at him – really looked at him – in public. No one got close enough to see beyond the mask, the identity he was forging for himself to delete, banish the one a pathetic and vengeful man tried to engrave into him through abuse and fear. During everyday life, he was invisible and undistinguishable amongst a crowd, no one paid a second thought to a man not unlike many from his place of birth. He has been a ghost, since he started his movement.
Now, there’s no movement anymore. No equalists, none at least he can get in contact with while under custody on this island. And no mask. He lost it in the water and he’s not used to people seeing this old skin of his. He doesn’t know to whom it belongs anymore. Tarrlok had called him brother, and he had called him a brother as well. But he’s not that brother Tarrlok was referring to – he tried so hard to cancel that person, cursed since birth and almost molded into a monster. Perhaps, that had been why Tarrlok made his decision. He’s no longer a sibling, just a person loathed by all just like him, because of their bending and their accursed father.
Thinking about Tarrlok now, when his brother is still unconscious in bed, casts a shadow over his heart and soul. He has yet to wake up, the damage his body sustained far too great for him to recover in a short time. He is still recovering, his wounds albeit in process of closing hurt terribly at night and disturb his sleep. The fractured bones will never heal completely, and Tarrlok’s face will always bear unfading scars. Yet they’re alive, still in this world. They’ll meet each other someday, and they’ll talk. He asked for this as soon as he knew of his brother’s survival. He was promised this – and he’s trying to go on each day, just to see that moment in which they’ll ask each other: What now?. Even death rejected them, so what is left for individuals hated by the living and repudiated from the otherworld? It’s an answer he can’t find on his own.
A monk employed in the temple happens to cross paths with him. He’s a limping man, who gets tired too easily to be considered a threat. Yet this monk lowers his gaze and hurries past him and his designed guard, the Avatar. Korra.
“Seems like you have yet to lose your charm,” she comments, directing a small smile at him. She’s by his side, ready to steady him if he happens to lose his footing at any time. He’s not that prideful – not much anymore – to feel vexation for her acts of care, since he’s in need of them.
“Seems I quite lost it, I notice,” he replies, resuming his slow walk down the wooden hallway leading to one of the courtyards. He’s referring to the monk, obviously.
Korra snickers.
“People used to run away from you and still do. You still got it,” she says, making fun of him in good faith. As he came to learn, the Avatar is an outstandingly outgoing individual and a social butterfly like not many others. After all, she was able to find in her the courage – or the recklessness – to bond with him of all people.
He hums at her joke, not having the strength in him to argue back. He’s tired of spiels and his old logic that no one wants to follow anymore. He’s just tired of battling. He’s been living without an identity for a few weeks now, not Amon, but neither that young boy from a remote Northern Tribe village. He’s a mere nameless shadow, that others can refer to however they like. He won’t complain. He doesn’t care to.
They reach the courtyard the girl uses as a training ground a couple of minutes later. The spacious clay patio is basked in the morning sun, the salt-scented air blowing from the sea is warmed by its rays. Weather this mild doesn’t happen often in the winter season of Republic City.
He lowers himself down on the creaking stairs of the porch, where sunlight falls gently on his face. He inhales through his nose, taking in his surroundings with his other senses. The smell of the sea and the bare bark of the trees fill his nostrils. The heat warms his eyelids. He hears the faraway sounds of the waves and the Avatar’s confident steps down the porch and onto the training ground.
She’s stretching her muscly arms towards the sky above when he opens his eyes. She has shed her parka and left it beside him, her flesh twitching from the muscles flexing underneath it.
The girl falls then into position for her warm-up routine. She’ll bend the elements soon, and the element she usually starts with is the one most reflective of her personality: fire. She bends fire like a natural, like a native-born. Her punches are powerful, her kicks are wide, yet she’s not careless with the surrounding environment comprised of flammable wood and vegetation. Next is water, the flexibility of which allows her to get creative with the range and the type of assaults she dishes out. Earth is the third element, which aids her in both attack and a rare show of defense for such a straightforward personality. Last is air, where her inexperience and young age finally filter through; she bends air as if she’s bending fire or earth, ignorant of the similarities water and air share in terms of adaptability. He had studied for years each style of bending to gain knowledge on how to best counterattack each one. It’s instinctive for his mind to latch onto an analytical approach when his body can’t respond to the stimuli.
He can’t explain what came to him when he found out the Avatar, somehow, regained the use of her elements. The mix of shock, confusion, rage, and ultimately futileness overwhelming him had been too much to process at once. So he didn’t react at all at the start. The next days, every single one of those emotions came out in various ways – him losing sleep thinking of the way she recovered her lost bending, him demanding explanations, him closing in on himself to try and reign over the sheer fury pervading him and the suffocating, ruinous realization of his failure. It took a lot from him to deal with his distressing emotions, on top of the emotional luggage he already carried. He had let apathy win in the end, because he was tired, and couldn’t take any more blows from fate.
Watching the Avatar bend causes nothing to react, to recoil in him. He’s just a passive observer that doesn’t allow himself to act, apart from silently admiring her body at work, no matter if she’s bending or not. The only thing he remotely yearns for is to get back into training too when he’ll recover enough of his old strength. He can’t tolerate any longer staying in bed all day every day.
“Whew, nice show I put up for you, don’t you think?”
Her speaking interrupts his private mulling. Her forehead and arms are shiny from the sweat, her crooked smile cheers up her entire face. When she smiles, she does it with her mouth, eyes, cheeks, eyebrows. It’s a smile that takes over her whole being.
He hums, almost undetectably.
“Your execution is rather sloppy in some parts,” he says, honest. “You waste too much energy you could store back to amp up your stamina.”
“You’d be a pain in the ass as a teacher,” she says, huffing slightly. Then her smile turns challenging. “Why don’t you show me some moves, Mr. know-it-all?”
He merely lifts his eyebrows a bit at the teasing tone of the girl. He doesn’t know how, or why she’s this carefree with him, treating him like someone she has known far longer, far deeper. Someone she can trust to show the whole magnitude of her personality. It didn’t happen overnight and he doubts she hasn’t some reserves towards him, but it’s baffling they reached this point at all. Perhaps it’s because his mission failed and he has nothing to strive for, or someone to feel enmity for anymore. Perhaps it’s the Avatar’s lack of intention of doing the same, and her way of headbutting into people’s lives – for the better, or for the worse – just like she seems to do with everything in her path. She had to have bonded with his brother to discover his heritage. Somehow, she ended up forming some kind of relationship with him too.
The lack of an answer from him spurs Korra to approach him, hands on her hips.
“Come on. I know it can do you good. No use sitting there pouting, you need to get back into shape,” she says, her challenging tone mitigating, a gentle smirk playing on her lips. “What do you say?”
He looks up at the girl’s juvenile face, kissed by the sun. Does she really want him to get back into shape and possibly overcome her for good?
“You are… either a bold one, or a naive one, Avatar,” he says. He has been thinking this way for some time. “What part of me getting back into shape does favor you?”
“The part where you can see how sloppy I truly am. Also, training while someone is in a terrible mood puts me down,” she explains, sarcastically. She offers him a hand.
He wanders with his gaze over her palm and extended arm, maybe for a little too long because Korra flexes her fingers to urge him.
“Come on, or do you want me to call you lazybones?”
“That would be undignified,” he comments, to which Korra snorts.
“Then stop sulking and let’s busy ourselves with something else, okay? Just for a few minutes,” she furtherly tries to convince him, her eyebrows forming a soft curve over her blue eyes. She’s a mix of encouraging and understanding that feels different, fresh. Like a spring newly formed into the earth.
He ponders over it, finding in the end no real cons aside from the fact that the respected identity he built for the sake of the equalists would end up buried a few more inches deeper into the ground. But he’s not that man anymore. He lost the right to be Amon.
He stands up on his feet by holding on to the handrail. The Avatar’s hand only helps steady him to take the first step into the yard. The rest are his own to take.
“Good, now we’re just missing one more friend,” she says, her fingers near her mouth.
Before he can form any guess about said friend, Korra produces a long, piercing whistle.
“Naga!” she calls, whistling again. “Naga! Come girl!”
She’s calling an animal. He knows which animal it is, so it’s no surprise to him when he spots an enormous polar bear dog rushing out of the bare bushes and dead trees. The animal runs a circle around Korra before snuggling her massive head against her stomach, leaving a lot of her white fur on the young Avatar’s training clothes.
“Naga, darling,” Korra coos, petting the polar bear dog under her muzzle and in between her ears. “You’re so lively today, girl. Such a good, good girl!”
The dog grunts and pushes against Korra’s waist, mindful of the reduced size of her human friend. It’s only when Korra lowers herself near her muzzle and directs the animal’s attention to him that ‘Naga’ seems to take notice of his presence. She should have taken notice before, or at least shown some kind of acknowledgment. Perhaps, she doesn’t see him as a threat as long as Korra isn’t wary of him. Animals are intelligent like that after all.
“Naga, he’ll be our training partner for today,” she explains to the dog’s black, attentive eyes. “He’s in a bit of a bad shape though, so you’ll be helping him stay on his feet. Got it?”
Naga looks at Korra for a moment, then goes straight to him.
He isn’t afraid of the big animal – he can sense she’s a docile spirit, despite the ferociousness for which her wild counterparts are feared. He hovers with his hand near the muzzle of the polar bear dog, for her to sniff his palm. She dampens it a little with her wet nose in doing so.
“I am capable to stand on my feet,” he says meanwhile. He’s weak and gets easily fatigued, yes, but not that much.
Korra caresses the head of the polar bear dog, murmuring yet more praises to her animal companion.
“It doesn’t hurt telling Naga to aid you, just in case,” she objects, with a sympathetic smile. “Shall we begin, huh?”
At his nod of confirmation, Korra pats the side of Naga’s neck. The pet scurries outside the training area with her tail wagging in – he guesses – a display of playfulness.
He tries to not get distracted by the presence of the dog and… Korra. He’s used to training alone, but he can make an exception this time. It’s been too long since he made any use of his muscles to pass up this opportunity.
He begins with his breathing exercises, coupled with slow movements of his arms, shoulders and back, all of which synched with his breaths. He resorted to these breathing exercises many times while confined in bed. They help him center himself, get in the right mindset for training and hush his fervent mind. This last effect is the most beneficial to him. There was never a time in his life when his mind had been mercifully quiet, it’s solely with training that he can silence it for a while.
He completes a few rounds, then he widens his stance to take up the first form of one of his training exercises.
A movement in his peripheral vision prompts him to turn his head. The Avatar is in a stance too, which is reminiscent enough of his form. Is she imitating him?
Korra turns her head too.
“What?” she asks. “What’s the next form?” His furrowed eyebrows cause Korra’s eyebrows to furrow in tandem. “Can’t I copy you?”
“You’re welcomed to try,” he says, conceding.
He performs the second form of the series, stepping forward while his right hand curve in the air with a fluid, water-like movement, his left hand near his torso.
Korra steps forward too, still with her head turned and a lopsided smile.
“I’d happily try,” She says. They perform the third form, him first, Korra soon after. Naga is ever vigilant in her observation of their training. It really seems like she’s looking out for him, yet he quickly brushes that thought away. “Learning fighting techniques is my raison d'être. Did you develop these forms on your own?”
“They are derivative of waterbending forms, as you can see,” he replies, rather drily. When he notices that Korra is still listening, he feels like adding something else. “There are also certain forms I integrated from chi-blocking and the Kyoshi Warriors’ fighting style. It primarily fixes on dodging and counterattacking the opponent.”
“I could learn a thing or two from familiarizing myself with chi-blocking and the Kyoshi Warriors,” Korra admits, making small conversation with him. It appears to come naturally to her.
They continue to perform together until he expends all his usual series of exercises. He’s regrettably a bit out of breath and he must rely back on some breathing techniques to regain his composure. But training did good to him and that’s what matters. His muscles feel awake, reinvigorated, like they haven’t been in weeks. The comfort of knowing he could soon rely back on his body far surpasses the annoying itching of his burns rubbing against the bandages.
“Should we spar a little?” Korra suggests, still full of energy compared to him. He pushes back the awkward sensation of feeling like an old, decrepit man compared to her. This is just temporary, he reminds himself. He’ll regain back his physical prowess, if he’ll be allowed to do so. This is not the norm for him.
“It promises to be a duel of the ages, when taking into account one of the opponents is currently incapacitated,” he says.
Korra snorts at him behind her knuckles. That’s when he realizes the excessive dose of sarcasm he had put into his answer. He wasn’t a stranger to it when used sparingly with his most trusted equalists. None of them laughed at his sarcasm anyway, because when he resorted to it he was especially displeased.
The girl, noticing his stare, waves a hand in a pacifying manner.
“If you put it like that, my very innocent proposal seems rather mean-spirited.” She circles around him with her hands resting on her belt. “I just thought, we are warmed up now, so why not use all this energy in sparring? Without going overboard, of course.”
He hums at the girl currently looking at him with her chin raised, the sun making her round blue eyes sparkle.
“Very well.”
Korra grins. She doesn’t waste time in assuming a proud, confident fighting stance at the opposite side of the courtyard.
He stands in front of her, discreetly testing the flexibility of his knee and ankle joints, the areas where the stress of sudden movements will fall on harder.
In the meantime, the polar bear dog got up on her four paws and is rounding up the courtyard, her tail swishing a little. He pays little mind to her.
“When you’re ready,” he says.
“Hey, first you complain I propose a sparring session to you, then you want me, the uninjured one, to come at you?” she rebuts, her lamenting tone every bit friendly nonetheless. “No no, you come at me.”
“As you wish.”
He doesn’t mind one bit, especially for how refreshing it is when such a strong-headed personality challenges him this much.
He takes his time to approach the Avatar. He’s in no rush to attempt an attack, since he intends to preserve energy for what is surely about to come, with him still not making any move to engage in combat and the girl being an impatient person. Her muscles are twitching in preparation, in tension. Her bottom lip is ever so gradually inching out.
Any time.
Any time soon.
His arm shoots forward to redirect Korra’s punch. Her knuckles collide against one of his bandaged burns underneath the tunic, and he steadies his jaw to suppress the pain.
“Sorry,” Korra says sheepishly, withdrawing her first. “You were taking too long.”
“That is no excuse to initiate a fight,” he says.
“Yeah, so—”
He aims for the center of her chest and hits her solar plexus with the thenar of his hand.
Korra gasps from the pain rapidly invading her lungs. She loses her footing and plummets on her rear, sputtering.
“Oh- oh spirits…” She’s grasping at her sternum, eyes wide and incredulous. “You’re… you cheated.”
“I was taking too long,” he reminds her, standing tall over her. He didn’t hit her with the intention to hurt, it must be an exaggerated bewilderment that’s keeping her on the ground.
He steps back to avoid her low swipe.
With a thrust of her back, Korra stands up again and lunges at him with a self-assured smirk.
The fight ensues, but it doesn’t take him long to notice she’s not giving her all in her blows. He’s blocking every single one of them at the best of his current abilities, although they’re not aggressive in the slightest. The fist she aims at his face is easy for him to capture in his own fist. So is the next one simple to dodge by stepping aside. The jab she deals to his briefly uncovered side gets redirected down as if it packed barely any force. And it didn’t.
“For all the honor you pride yourself on,” Korra says. A faint smile is playing on her lips. Her nose is brushing against his chin. She’s… close to him. Really close. He can feel her light exhales on his neck, the natural smell of her youthful, brown skin. “You surely have no honor, to have taken advantage of me like that for a cheap blow.”
“Every blow,” He lowers his head. “Is a crucial blow, in a fight. Avatar.”
“Really?” she grins up at him. Mischievously. “Then, by that logic—”
She goes for a kick aimed at his middle. He parries it with his forearm and he’s about to push away her leg with his remaining hand. Something – a paw – swipes at his ankles. He stumbles a bit and ends up with his back flushed against a large, furry surface.
Startled, he lifts his head up to the polar bear dog’s panting muzzle, whose black beady eyes have assumed a cheery shape.
He stares at Korra, hard.
“What? I said we could spar, and Naga is part of 'we',” she says, with a wide grin. “And you said—"
“Yes. I got your point, Avatar,” he interrupts, trying to push himself off the dog, but he does so too late. Naga plops on her stomach with a grunt and he ends up on the ground as well, propped up against the animal’s stomach. He feels ridiculous for what just happened, but Korra doesn’t laugh or make fun of him. She just proceeds to sit too, stretching her arms on the fluffy fur behind her, her joints popping.
He… he guesses they’ll rest now. Which isn’t a bad thing in hindsight. He needs the rest.
“Why don’t you just call me Korra for once?” she asks, so suddenly the question takes him aback.
“Should I?”
He hears the girl make a troubled sound with her tongue.
“Well, why not? It’s my name.”
She seems a little offended judging by her huff. She ignores how complicated are names as a topic for him at this time.
Why not, indeed? The reason is simple: it would imply too much familiarity between them. Too much of a thing he’s not used to having anymore. And it intimidates him, even more if he is to receive it from a person he sought to destroy for so long. He never had anything against Korra on a personal level, they were enemies because she’s the Avatar. If she had not been, they would have stayed out of each other’s way. That man however, enemy and adversary to her… sometimes, he feels like he drowned in the sea the moment he lost the mask. He stays silent however about these reasons.
“I will call you such if I see fit to do so,” he says, with a soothed tone. Perhaps even gentle, if one looks deep enough into it.
“Then I just have to give you a reason?” she asks, sounding pensive.
He arches an eyebrow at her. Why does this matter interest her so?
Korra cackles nervously, her index twisting Naga’s neck fur.
“How about…” she murmurs, soulful blue eyes twinkling at him. “How about this?”
She leans on him, hands in her lap. The soft contact of her lips doesn’t register on his cheek at first – he doesn’t register it.
When Korra moves away and the lingering sensation of her lips still tickles his skin, he turns his head towards her. He’s speechless, and it happens so rarely he doesn’t remember the last time it occurred.
Seconds pass and he gives up on trying to find words he doesn’t have for the expression she’s regarding him with, so open, full of life. Kind.
He reaches up to follow with his thumb the curve of her cheek, the outline of her round face.
Korra’s eyes are transfixed on him, dreamy. It’s as if she’s looking at someone that’s not him, that can’t possibly be him.
She kisses him then, she silences his mind with lips that taste like the warm sun they’re bathed by, like the murmuring sea all around them, like the soft sweetness of a peach. It’s a kiss brief like youth, but it leaves such a lasting impact on him that when Korra parts from him, gleefully giggling, her aura of life is still filling up his swollen chest. He feels… whole. Alive.
“So, what’s my name, Noatak?” she asks, beaming.
Her name rests on his tongue for a bit. Names are a complicated topic for him at this time... in some cases though, they don't have to be. He doesn't wish for her name to be a part of this issue.
So he utters it with a slow exhale.
“Korra.”
It surprises him how easily it rolls off his tongue. It shouldn't though. She's been 'Korra' in his mind for some time now.
The girl tilts her head to rest it on his shoulder.
“See, Naga?” she says to the polar bear dog, who grunts in response. “I told you this would work.”
Korra’s jowls are flushed, her eyes squinted from happiness. As if just him saying her name could make her entire day. He understands though now, why it was so important to her.
He says it one more time in his thoughts.
Korra. The person who looks at him like, someday, things could be better.
Losing my mind over this post from an ex-mutual who writes Wyatt Halliwell from Charmed 1998.
Legacies isn't even in the same universe (though it's crazy to me how this mun had a Legacies verse for her Wyatt but then refused to write with any characters from that fandom).
Fictional teenage characters are not real minors. They are not real people. Zero real-life teenagers are hurt by people writing fictional teens having sexy times with other fictional teens. It is not CSEM to write stories about not-real teens who exist only on paper as words or sketches.
The audacity to say aging up characters is gross when she started out on her blog playing Wyatt as a grown-ass adult but going by the show's timeline he was still very much a kid. The hypocrisy here, I absolutely cannot.
We're also conveniently ignoring all the times Charmed canonically aged up its characters, huh? All the times adult!Wyatt traveled back to the past when his past self was a baby/toddler? Adult!Chris being in the past (2003) when he hadn't even been born yet? The adult Halliwell sisters interacting with their child selves? "Morality Bites" where the Charmed Ones ended up inhabiting their decade-older bodies? All the flash-forwards to Piper and Phoebe as old women? All the shots we got in the future of the sisters' kids and grandkids when in the then-present they didn't exist yet?
Bianca's introduction being her as an adult but we later meet her child self in the present? And her adult self was in a romantic relationship with Chris before he timetraveled back to 2003 and said goodbye to him by having sex?
Funny how aging up characters is bad only when it applies to fanworks and never, y'know, the original canon media. Disney has done it multiple times in their movies in order to get to the romance plotline (The Lion King, The Lion King II, Tangled, Sleeping Beauty, Frozen, Princess and the Frog). I've read more than one romance novel that introduces the heroine as a kid or young teen in the prologue and then flashes forward to the present day when she's an adult. Avatar: The Last Airbender did this with everyone in the Gaang (except Aang, who was already a kid) via flashing back to them as young kids when we're already familiar with them in the present as teenagers. Legend of Korra introduced Korra as a four-year-old bending fire, water, and earth and then immediately cut to her as a 17-year-old practicing her firebending (she later spent much of the first season involved in a love triangle)
Also, boy do I have some news for you as to how adults become adults.
Anyway, fictional characters are not real and do not have rights. It is not illegal to write about two imaginary characters (teenage or adult) kissing, heavy petting, or having wild sex. They do not exist.
So long as zero (0) real-life underage children/teenagers are depicted/exploited, it is not CSEM to write or draw fictional characters in NSFW situations.
And no, the adult actors portraying fictional teenagers engaging in sexy scenes does not count as CSEM either.
Hmmmm I have thoughts.
First of all LoK is directed mostly from korra’s/the krew’s pov. Adults are making decisions, they don’t have all the information and it’s teenagers/young adults making their way in the world.
That being said some of the adult characters that Don’t Interact with the Krew that much get lost in the background. Like Pemas got NO characterization until b3 and b4. Bumi is the goofy uncle and that’s it other than a throw away line about cannibals. Kya doesn’t get any characterization until the comics lmao. So the side character adults get sidelined Hard. Other than Tenzin because he is
A - Korras teacher/mentor
And
B - Aang’s only air bending child (both siblings and even Katara gets ooc and sidelined because of this)
Lin’s pigeonholed into the grumpy good guy. So the Krew don’t know anything about her. Nothing is really explored so there’s nothing saying she’s single. The Krew just don’t know.
Also I feel like after b1 Lin and tenzin would have talked a few things out because it seemed they weren’t on the same page until then. The entire Southern Outpost recovery period was skipped over. 6 months and we don’t know how long they were without their elements during that time. Lin was clearly there. So I’m sure they talked.
And I believe Lin and Tenzin’s relationship goes Way Beyond their dating life. I think they grew up together on ATI raised by the acolytes and Aang and Katara. Aang grew up with all the other kids in his community it was normal. Of course he would love to have Tophs kids over every chance they had. So they had a solid friendship to build things off from and go back to after the breakup. So Lin didn’t just lose her possibly long term boyfriend. She lost her childhood best friend. Someone she’s literally never lived without and tenzin was one year old when she was born so he wouldn’t remember a time without her too. I think that’s where the majority of the continued hurt lies. I’ve talked about this before too.
They need to talk it out because we see in the show tenzin is awkward as fuckkk and avoids hard conversations with family. But he’s not above admitting he was wrong or that something didn’t happen the way they hoped it would. So a good conversation between Tenzin and Lin and I think they could go back to being friends. And they seem to be back to that in b3.
As for pema and the kids we see Lin interact with the kids some in the show and they seem to be alright with eachother. It’s mostly meelo I think we see her talking to directly. But he’s a hellion. And for pema I think pema has a very slanted view of Lin and that may get better in time (especially given Lin’s actions in b1) but it’s probably pema who’s not open to a relationship and Lin won’t push anyone to be apart of her life.
Now for the whole “they broke up for nothing” that’s an extreeeemly Lin focused take and kindof a backhanded one too honestly. I don’t think tenzin would trade his kids for anything and I have to agree with him. I also don’t think Lin would ask him to trade his kids. And I don’t think it’s fair to put that on her Given she did everything she could throughout the show to protect those kids.
The grief of what could have been is over a decade old by b3 and it may have come up. Thats a very normal reaction but I think it would be quickly dismissed because How The Fuck were they supposed to know at the time the new Teenaged Avatar would rip the spirit world - that had been sealed for 10 thousand years - open and then ~something about the spirits~ would randomly even out the number of benders of each element. It doesn’t make sense In Show you can’t blame them for making decisions based in the fact of the time.
And the creators of the show have said that Lin didn’t want kids. Not that she couldn’t have them. But I know when it’s not in the show we can take and leave as we please lol no worries.
TLDR: “broke up for nothing” is a harsh Lin sided take that I don’t think she would agree with. Lin didn’t want kids not couldn’t have kids. Lin and Tenzin’s relationship as childhood friends is strong and they will be good friends again.
ALSO SIDE NOTE: Harmonic convergence was dumb and doesn’t make sense in universe and I’d have much rather seen a lion turtle offer the air element to the Acolytes.
Just thinking about how Lin and Tenzin broke up because he needed to have kids for the Air Nation and she didn't and then a few years later the airbenders came back on their own anyway. Like imagine how that felt for both of them but especially Lin. To know that the major reason your long term relationship failed ended up not even being valid after a while (and its a good thing don't get me wrong I love the airbenders but that has to sting)
Low key i would absolutely love an aot/atla fanfic crossover. Random crossovers are my guilty pleasure maybe i’ll write it for myself😩🤚🏼
I also headcanon eren as a firebender, i think Hange would def be either an airbender or a nonbender. Erwin would be an earthbender :)
Okay okay I have thoughts. I’d love an aot/atla fic if somebody wants to write it…. I have $4 ready for you 😭😭
Eren is a firebender, something like Zuko in his progression. Definitely had a phase where he “loses” his bending and has to find a new source that isn’t pure anger/vengeance; probably after accidentally burning one of his friends/his mom. Also think that like Zuko, he never learns to bend lightning, only redirects it from people attacking him. It frustrates him to learn it at first, but once he does and feels it go through him, he decides that he never wants to use it himself.
Mikasa…. can go so many ways in my head omg. Firebender suits her, like Azula in her technique, blue fire and all; and she’s not just skilled as a bender, but in hand to hand combat, too. She’s smart above all, so even when she can’t bend, she’s not down for the count. She’d be able to bend lightning, too, but would only do it when absolutely necessary. BUT BUT!! Can also see her being a waterbender and there are definitely similarities between her and Katara (last of her kind, won’t turn her back on people who need her, incredibly skilled for her age); not as naive (?) as Katara could be sometimes, but there are comparisons for sure. Don’t know if I can see her as a healer, tho she’d wish she’d be able to. For sure would be a blood bender; but like with lightning, she’d only do it when heavily threatened.
Armin would honestly be a non-bender, but if he had an element it would be air. Water is an obvious choice, but I think he can still have the infatuation, and respect for water and benders, without being one himself. Honestly, he’d probably have spent so much time around water and felt such a pull from it that everyone thought he’d be a waterbender; as a kid his parents/grandparents probably tried to get him to bend water (and he’d happily try), and it wasn’t until a fit of frustration that he realized he’s an air bender instead. Plus there’s the pacifist nature of airbenders, and the way that airbending is more defensive than offensive; but also airbenders bear this cruel kind of pressure in controlling an element that’s so essential. Fits him idk.
Jean is a waterbender and if you’ve seen tlok, then I think his fighting style would mimic Korra’s; people often note that she fights like a firebender even tho she was born a water bender, and used it way more frequently than Aang. His hand to hand combat would also be similar to her, tho his attitude would be slightly more mellow. He’d also be a healer, but it’s something he keeps under wraps for a while; it’s not until one of his friends is seriously injured that people find out. He feels a kind of pressure when he’s healing people, and it’d hurt him a lot if he weren’t able to save someone.
If Sasha had an element, it would be air or water, but I see her more as the Ty Lee kind of type. She looks super sweet and it’s easy to overlook her, but she’s insanely precise and skilled (she did save someone running on a vertical wall once). Definitely blocks Jean/Eren’s chi when they start getting into it with eachother to save everyone the headache. Also walks on her hands sometimes just because she can.
Connie is another toss up… I’m serious about him not being a waterbender that would be so chaotic pls 😭😭 wanna say air. He’s seen as goofy and kind of a free spirit, but he’s very connected to his friends. Aang not wanting to give up Katara to unlock the avatar state kinda reminds me of Connie hugging Jean and Sasha when they get back on the airship after Marley; he knows it’s selfish, but he’s happy his friends are safe. He has moments of rage and hates to be betrayed, but overall he’s mostly calm and open to hearing other people out. Plus he’d 100% be in an airball like Aang whenever he could be. But if he weren’t a bender, he should 100% have a boomerang. It’s perfect for him.
Levi is a firebender there’s no doubt in my mind. The only other potential option is an earthbender because I think he’d be the one to figure out metal bending under pressure, but I still like fire more for him. He understands that fire isn’t just destruction, that it’s warm and energy; and that’s why he doesn’t need to exert much power in his firebending. If he were to hold a flame in his hand it wouldn’t feel threatening, despite it being fire it wouldn’t even feel “too hot” to touch; it’d be warm, comforting, like you could put your hands immediately to it and not get burned. He’s aggressive when need be, but he doesn’t let his emotions cloud his bending, because that’s when he’d hurt someone he cares about. Can bend lightning but honestly if Levi is lightning bending, you’re as good as dead 💀💀
Okay, okay… I hear your Hange non-bender argument and I raise you Hange as an earthbender who is primarily a metal bender. Suit of metal that they bend on and off their body, definitely carries the metal whip around… do you see the vision. They sometimes forget they can actually bend earth and get frustrated, stomp too hard to flail their hands a little too roughly and everyone loses their balance as the floor shakes and Hange just “O.O…. oopsies!”
Honestly…. I think Erwin would be a non-bender. Sokka essentially mastered the non-bending fighting types of each nation, and that’s something I see for Erwin. Leans towards a sword, and kinda wanna say two swords would suit him better. Maybe it’s the aot influence, but that works for him in my head. I also think Zeke might be a non-bender.
Porco is an earthbender, no doubt in my mind. Dare I say a lavabender, tho I kinda wanna give that to Reiner. Maybe both of them? Reiner built like a brick wall, so earth isn’t that far off… don’t know if he’d completely master a sub element, but lavabending is a possibility for him.
Annie is an earthbender, too. You know how Kiyoshi had the fans and was an earthbender and murked that one general then came back as a ghost to say she didn’t regret it? Anniecore <33 she doesn’t really master any sub elements completely, but she doesn’t have to; her earth bending is as solid as it possibly can be. Under pressure, I’m sure she’d be able to adapt to metal bending, but she doesn’t prefer it.
Pieck would be an airbender!! Agile, quick-thinking, and adapts to whatever situation shes put in. Gets a kick out of blowing air into peoples faces, and how are they gonna prove it’s her? Exactly, they can’t. Lastly, I’d give water to Bertolt. The ability to both be calm and insanely destructive. Might be a healer, too, but could just be a regular bender.
#anonymous#this long ass analysis nobody asked for#i feel very passionately about eren and levi and their zuko/iroh relationship i’m sorry#minicanons#yeager.ask#levi.ask#levi.ans
TLOK Book 1 Rewatch Thoughts...
1. While only having seen the show as a whole once, I’ve seen Book 1 about four times now I think. I just love it. It’s honestly really really solid and I enjoy it a lot.
2. Amon is a very compelling villain. I used to think that him being a bloodbender was kinda stupid because it undermined the revolution, but I’m not sure I agree with that anymore. Due to his upbringing, he had a very valid reason for thinking all bending is evil.
3. The murder/suicide scene with Noatak and Tarrlok is so sad but so good.
4. Korra being able to airbend feels way more earned to me this time around. I had never realized that her fear of Amon was part of her mental block, and once he took away her ability to bend the other three elements, she realized she had nothing left to lose. It’s a very earned moment the more I think about it.
5. Which reminds me...Aang giving her back her bending at the end is actually earned as well. Letting go of her fear of Amon was also pivotal in her connecting to her spiritual self.
6. I absolutely love the scene in episode 2 where Korra moves like an airbender to win the pro bending match. I get major chills every time.
7. While parts of the love triangle are cringy, the way that Korra acts honestly makes sense considering she’s never interacted with kids her own age all that much before, if at all.
8. When Bolin and Korra are on their date, they do seem lowkey perfect for each other, and honestly, I can see it.
9. Also, I do still really enjoy a lot of the Makorra moments in Book 1. They’re cute, okay. Ngl. (They were my original ship back when I first watched the show. I don’t love them nearly as much as I had then, but I still like them a fair amount.)
10. One of my favorite parts about this rewatch was noticing all the little Korrasami moments. I know that they didn’t originally intend for Korrasami to end up together at all, considering that the Book 1 finale was originally the finale of the whole series and Makorra got together, but there are quite a few Korrasami moments.
11. Lin and Tenzin are still my two faves. I LOVE THEM. Also, Jinora!
12. However, my only complaint with Tenzin’s character is that I really wish that he and some of his children had some SWT elements in their Air Nomad robes.
13. Iroh II making an appearance is one of the highlights of the season imo.
14. Lin’s sacrifice is one of the saddest moments, but I kinda love it.
15. You know what? I love probending. It’s so fun.
16. Mako wearing his father’s scarf as a parallel to Katara wearing her mother’s necklace. I’M CRYING.
17. I still refuse to believe that Katara banned bloodbending entirely. It makes sense that she would ban the use of it to control/hurt people, however, I absolutely love the hc that she developed medicinal uses for it. I like to think that she trained a select few how to save lives with bloodbending and that most of the waterbending staff in hospitals have a license to do so. Technically, there is nothing in canon that disproves this. Bloodbending is illegal, but there could be exceptions if it means saving a life. Just saying.
18. The music is just incredible. The animation too.
19. Naga is the best.
“So, where do we find this Iroh guy?” Mako asked.
“You think he has any relation to General Iroh?” Bolin questioned. “I mean, how many Iroh’s can there really be, y’know?”
“He’s Iroh as in, Zuko and Iroh,” Korra informed them, and Bolin let out a shocked gasp. While she was nervous about getting her memories back, (Y/N) would definitely be grateful not to be absolutely lost when things were discussed.
A Republic City winter was nothing compared to a South Pole winter. (Y/N) was cold while she slept, cold while she moved, cold while she stood still! Korra’s mom had her wrapped up in so many different coats, furs, and blankets that she waddled while she walked. “How are you okay right now?” She asked Korra as they walked to breakfast together. “I feel like my nose is going to fall off.”
Korra looked back and flashed her a smile. “It’s all I’ve ever known! You just kind of get used to it.” (Y/N) frowned. She couldn’t imagine ever getting used to weather like this.
As they sat and ate their breakfast--(Y/N) tried to eat, but the layers made it hard to bend her elbows--they discussed their plan for the day. Led by Tonraq, they would travel by snowmobile to the Spirit World Portal. It was a long trip, so they would have to camp for the night, but the next day they would be trekking through the Spirit World looking for answers. “It’s warm there,” Korra said, nudging (Y/N) with her elbow. She smiled gratefully.
She decided to ride on the back of Korra’s snowmobile. Bolin would be on the back of Asami’s and while Mako also had his own, (Y/N) wasn’t sure if she wanted to have her arms wrapped around him for the entire trip, especially when they hadn’t discussed the things that happened between them. Her and Mako hadn’t discussed things at all, really. She knew they were on better terms since the first time they met, but he was so guarded and she was so scared that anything Mako had to say to her, she might not want to hear.
So, she waddled over to Korra’s snowmobile. “Mind if I ride with you?” She asked as Korra secured their supplies.
“Not at all!” Korra said, her face lighting up. Then she cleared her throat and turned her eyes back to tying knots. “Just be sure you hold on tight, okay?” (Y/N) nodded, managing a joking salute.
She wrapped her arms around Korra’s middle as tightly as she could, but it must not have been enough because as soon as Korra hit the gas, (Y/N) was flung off, landing on her back in the snow. She let out a shout of surprise, followed by a groan as she opened her eyes and saw Korra staring down at her. She wore a humored smile on her face. “I told you to hold on tight!”
“I was!” (Y/N) insisted as Korra helped her get back to her feet. She pulled some rope from their side pouch and wrapped it around (Y/N’s) waist, then tied it to her own.
“We do this for little kids sometimes, so they don’t get lost in the snow.” (Y/N) narrowed her eyes and stuck her tongue out at her. Korra laughed at the childishness and helped her get back on the snowmobile. Then they were off, (Y/N) much more secured this time around.
As they rode through the snowy hills, (Y/N) leaned her head on Korra’s back, taking in the sights of the Southern Water Tribe. Far out where the sea was, icy glaciers poked through the inky waters, shimmering against the sunlight. Everything was rather sparkly; if (Y/N) looked at the snow for too long her eyes felt sore. She turned her head and waved a gloved hand at Bolin, who gave her a thumbs up from his position behind Asami.
Sometimes, when she looked at Bolin, it physically hurt her heart. She knew it was some sort of physical reaction, something her body remembered that her head didn’t. The feeling increased when he had referred to them as being friends. There was nothing wrong with being friends, in fact she supposed that was better than any other alternative, but even now she had always thought there was something more between them. Perhaps she had interpreted everything wrong. There was a giant piece of her memory missing, after all, and all she knew was that she had really messed up Bolin when she had left. It was probably better if they were just friends. Bolin was great and she didn’t want to lose him a second time.
Their ride was so long that (Y/N) had eventually fallen asleep against Korra’s back, only to be awoken by the snowmobile coming to a jolted stop. She awoke and squeaked in fear, gripping on tighter to Korra.
“Sorry!” She said. “I’ve never been really good at breaking.”
“You’re going to tell me that after I spent hours on a giant metal deathtrap with you?” (Y/N) huffed.
“It wasn’t that bad considering you were snoring into my back,” Korra quipped, quickly turning herself around so she could untie them. “You sounded like a lion turtle.”
“I don’t even know what that is, but I’m sure you’re wrong.” (Y/N) slid off the snowmobile and began untying the packs.
“Lion turtles used to carry cities on their backs and bestow the gift of bending to humans occasionally.”
“Think we’ll find one in the Spirit World to grant me some powers?” (Y/N) asked. “What element do you think I’d bend? I think fire’s pretty cool but-”
“Oh, you’d be an airbender for sure,” Korra said as she hoisted two packs onto her back. (Y/N’s) face lit up.
“Really! Why do you think that? Is it because of my calm and collected nature?”
“It’s because you talk so much,” Korra explained. “You’re constantly bending air with your mouth.” She booped (Y/N) on the nose before making her way to the rest of the group.
“You’re hilarious! (Y/N) called after her, gathering her own packs onto her back. “Why don’t you stop being the Avatar and become a comedian instead!”
They set up their tents and made fire, which was easy work considering two out of the six people in the party were firebenders. As soon as (Y/N) finished her tasks she sat in front of the fire. She was probably too close, but she didn’t care. It’s warmth, albeit small, made her feel just a smidge less cold than she had been, and she’d take it. The rest of their group soon joined her, Asami sitting on one side and Korra sitting on the other. She appreciated the girls protecting her from any awkwardness that could potentially ensue from being near the boys.
“I’m thinking when we get to the Spirit World, we’ll try our luck at finding Iroh,” Korra explained. “He’s always got spirits around him, maybe one of them will know who took (Y/N’s) memories.”
“And if they don’t?” Mako questioned. “We can’t just wander around the Spirit World hoping for some clue.”
“Maybe I’ll start remembering again,” (Y/N) suggested. “Like when Bolin took me to the spot where we met. I got that memory back.”
“You also threw up and passed out from that,” Asami reminded her. (Y/N) pursed her lips.
“I can handle it,” (Y/N) reassured them. “At this point, I’ll do whatever it takes to get my memories back.”
“The Spirit World is magnificent, but it’s also dangerous,” Tonraq said. Night had fallen, and his face was illuminated only by the fire. “They might not be happy to see humans there, especially after what happened last time.”
“I’m the Avatar,” Korra said. “They have to at least listen to me.”
“I just want you all to be careful. Whatever took (Y/N’s) memories has to be powerful. Maybe dangerous.”
“We’ll be careful, Dad,” Korra reassured her father. Tonraq trusted his daughter’s abilities, that was obvious, but the worry he held for her was still evident on his features. (Y/N) swallowed, her mouth feeling dry. She hadn’t really considered that this could be a dangerous mission. If she was being honest, she had never really thought this far ahead. She had spent every day maneuvering around the different dynamics of the four friends, making sure that she didn’t overstep her boundaries or create unnecessary problems. She hadn’t considered what would be waiting for them on the other side of the Spirit Portal, or that the people she had grown to cherish would be put in danger for her sake.
Asami passed around their food and (Y/N) ate silently, considering this information. Her friends talked around her, but she was so distracted that their comments went in one ear and out the other. Once she finally zoned back in, it was just her, Korra, and Mako sitting around the fire.
Korra let out a big yawn, stretching her arms. “I’m absolutely beat,” She said. “I think I’m gonna turn in. You coming?” (Y/N) shook her head.
“I think I’ll stay near the warmth just a little longer.” Korra nodded and gave them a sloppy salute as she waded through the snow and to the tent she shared with Asami and (Y/N). It was just her and Mako now.
She stared at the flames of the fire and how they danced in the cold night air. Should she say something to Mako? This was the first time they had been alone together and neither of them had immediately made up somewhere else they needed to be. They’d be heading to the Spirit World tomorrow, so if there was any time for them to communicate, it should be now.
(Y/N) adjusted her coat, huddling further inside it. “Want me to make it bigger?” Mako asked, and (Y/N) nearly jumped, surprised to hear him talking to her. She looked at him, eyes wide and not quite understanding what he was talking about. “The fire, you want me to make it bigger?”
“Oh, no, that’s okay,” She said. Mako stared at her for a moment before making the fire larger and while she had said she hadn’t wanted that, (Y/N) was grateful. It was so hard to be straightforward with Mako sometimes, because of the way he jumbled her brain. It was like she didn’t even recognize herself when she was around him anymore. Before, only one emotion accompanied being around Mako, and that was anger. Now, (Y/N) felt a whole range of emotions when she looked at his amber eyes. “I think we should talk,” She said finally, wincing at how small her voice sounded.
“I think so too,” And he gave her a half smile. (Y/N) nodded, but both of them remained silent. How should she start? How did people even communicate properly? Perhaps the thing (Y/N) was most excited about getting her memories back was how to talk to people normally. She felt so awkward!
“Why’d you kiss me?” She asked suddenly, her face heating from embarrassment. Mako’s eyebrows shot to the top of his forehead.
“Oh,” He coughed. “I mean, well, it’s a little--it’s like--” (Y/N) couldn’t help giggling. “What’s so funny?”
“Nothing!” She insisted, biting down her smile. “You just...you seem so tough and confident and aloof sometimes that it’s funny to see you act so...”
“Embarrassing?” He guessed. (Y/N) shook her head.
“Normal?” She tilted her head and shrugged. “You don’t always have to wear this tough guy act, you know.”
“It’s not an act,” Mako insisted, but he and (Y/N) exchanged a look that had them both stifling back their laughter. “Maybe sometimes. People believe you’re tough if you act like it. Keeps you from getting your stuff stolen when you’re sleeping in a gutter.”
“You grew up on the streets?” (Y/N) guessed. Mako nodded.
“Sometimes I forget what you know and what you don’t.”
“Me too, if we’re being honest.” They paused into a silence that wasn’t necessarily uncomfortable, just full of anticipation. “They teach you how to dodge questions on the streets, too?”
Mako sighed, running a hand through his black hair. “It’s not easy for me to explain stuff like this. Bolin’s the one that can talk about emotions and feelings.”
(Y/N) smiled. “Bolin can talk about anything.”
“When we were arguing on that balcony, I wasn’t just angry at you for being here. You hurt Bolin a long time ago, but watching you be with my brother and knowing that I could never be with you...that hurt, too. You were so close to me that night and something inside of me said I should kiss you and once the idea popped into my head, I couldn’t get it out. I think I hoped that once I did it, it’d be some sort of release. Like a way to get it all out so I’d stop feeling like that.”
“Was it?”
Mako looked directly into her eyes. Normally, his gaze would make (Y/N) feel weird and she would have to look away. She couldn’t bring herself to do that tonight.
“Not at all,” He admitted. “I thought I had gotten over you once you disappeared, but once you came back it all hit me full force.”
(Y/N) thought for a moment about what she wanted to say. Then, she took a deep breath. “I don’t have any memories to base my feelings off of. But there are certain things, feelings, that I remember that I can’t place. They’re just there.” She placed a hand over her heart. “It happens when I look at Bolin. I remember feelings, like sadness and regret, but I don’t know why. It’s overwhelming sometimes, discerning emotions. The things that I feel for Bolin, they’re like past feelings that I’m remembering. Kind of.” She squinted her eyes shut. She wasn’t sure if she was explaining this right, but she was trying her best. “But when I look at you, now that the anger has subsided, I feel things now. Being around you feels nice and when you talk to me, I feel very...light and relieved. I can barely hold your gaze without blushing, and--and I think about you. A lot more than a friend should, I think.”
“But,” She continued. “I don’t have all of my memories back. I don’t know how or why I left and I don’t know if things will change once I do.”
“I get it,” Mako said. “As much as someone with memories can.” (Y/N) gave him a small smile. “And I don’t want to confuse you even more, because I’m sure being around Bolin is confusing enough as it is.”
“You have no idea,” (Y/N) breathed.
“I’m glad I told you. Almost two years and I finally admitted to my brother’s ex-girlfriend that I had a crush on her the whole time. This is a big day for me.”
“The whole time?” (Y/N) questioned. “When did you realize that you liked me?”
“I think Kya told us that we couldn’t share too much about the past with you, or else you might lose your memories forever?” (Y/N) pouted. “Fine, but if you can’t get your memories back, don’t blame me.” The wind picked up over them and he scooted closer to her so that he wouldn’t have to shout over it.
“Aye-aye, Captain,” (Y/N) said, giving a small salute. She rested her chin in the palm of her glove in order to pay attention.
“There was this one time when you got to our place. Bolin wasn’t there yet, I think he was out performing tricks with Pabu. It was cold outside, one of the coldest days Republic City had had in a while. You came in and you were like an icicle. You were shaking and had forgotten your coat and decided to walk halfway across the city to our place. I gave you a blanket and one of Bolin’s coats, but your hands were still like ice, so I used a little firebending to warm them up.” Mako remembered the feeling of your hands completely encased in his. “I held your hands for a while, until they were warm enough. I got up to leave for work and you grabbed my hand and pulled me back down onto the couch. You said, ‘Stay, Mako! I love having you around.’ So, I stayed. We talked all day until Bolin got home, and I ended up losing that job, but spending that time with you made it all worth it.”
(Y/N) sat silently for a long while before saying, “I’m sorry for making you lose your job.”
Mako laughed. “It’s cool,” He said. “I wasn’t a very good delivery boy anyway.”
(Y/N) pulled off her gloves, exposing her hands to the cold winter air. “Do you think you could...?” She offered her hands to Mako. He gave her a small smile and nodded, removing his own gloves and taking her hands in his. (Y/N) let out a happy sigh of relief at the feeling of warmth that emanated from his skin.
“I’m sorry for being so mean to you at first,” Mako said. “I just didn’t want Bolin to get hurt again.”
“I understand,” She said quietly. “I’d probably do the same if I were you.” Cautiously, she leaned her head on Mako’s shoulder. They sat like that for a long while, staring at the fire as Mako held her hands in his. While she was probably even more confused about her emotions than before, part of her hoped that whatever happened in the Spirit World wouldn’t change how she was feeling right now. She wanted to see where this could go.
---
Once the cold became too much for either of them to bear, Mako and (Y/N) parted ways. Korra and Asami were fast asleep when she entered their tent and slid into her sleeping bag. She fell asleep quickly, her hands still warm, but it felt like she was asleep for only moments when Korra shook her awake in the morning.
“One more hour,” (Y/N) grumbled, rolling over to avoid Korra’s gaze. The Avatar scoffed.
“I already let you sleep in as late as possible!” She gently kicked (Y/N’s) butt. “Up! Spirit World today, woohoo!” A very groggy (Y/N) reluctantly left the warmth of her sleeping bag. The early morning sun was absolutely blinding as she walked out of the tent. (Y/N) let out an unhappy grumble.
“Tea?” Asami offered, handing (Y/N) a thermos. (Y/N) smiled gratefully at her and took a long sip of the beverage, feeling it warm her from the inside out.
“Thank you so much!” (Y/N) said. “I needed that.”
“You were up pretty late,” Asami said, giving her a knowing smile. “Any particular reason?” (Y/N) shrugged playfully as she loaded her sleeping bag onto Korra’s snowmobile.
“Mako and I finally talked.”
“And? How’d that go?” Asami glanced over at Mako’s who sleepily nodded at whatever Bolin was excitedly saying to him. (Y/N) lightly slapped her friend’s arm.
“Don’t stare!” She laughed. “It went fine. We talked about our feelings, actually.” Asami’s eyes widened in excitement and she opened her mouth to say something, but (Y/N) cut her off. “And while there are some feelings there, I told him how until I got my memories back, nothing could be certain.”
Asami hummed in approval. “Seems like a good resolution.”
“What’s a good resolution?” Korra came over to tie her own belongings to the snowmobile.
“Mako and (Y/N) finally talked about their kiss.”
“Woah!” Korra exclaimed. “Are you guys dating now?”
“I’m missing like seventy-five percent of my memories and you think we’d be dating?” (Y/N) snipped. Korra shrugged.
“I don’t know what goes on in your head!”
“Like I told Asami, it was a good conversation. We talked about our feelings but I said that until I got my memories back, nothing could be done. I mean, what if I get them back and there was actually a non-Spirit World reason for why I was so awful to Bolin?” (Y/N) shook her head. “I was honest about how I felt and I think that’s good progress.”
“You know Korra,” Asami started. “Weren’t you telling me yesterday how much your bag hurt from having (Y/N) hold onto you?”
“What? No?” Korra said, furrowing her dark brows. Asami elbowed her sharply in the side.
“Remember? You said she held on too tight? Don’t you think that today you should ride on the snowmobile by yourself, since you’ll need to be at your best Avatar abilities in the Spirit World?”
“I know what you guys are doing and I’m having absolutely none of it!” (Y/N) insisted. “I’m riding with Korra, end of story.”
“Oh, I see what’s happening here,” Korra said. She placed her hands on her lower back. “Oh, yep, there’s definitely a tough knot there and it’s all (Y/N’s) fault. I don’t think I can ride on a snowmobile with you anymore.”
“I thought the Avatar was supposed to bring peace, but all you’re causing is chaos,” (Y/N) hissed.
“Hey, Mako!” Asami called out. Mako looked over to them, raising a questioning eyebrow as (Y/N) banged her head against the snowmobile. “Do you think (Y/N) can ride with you for today? Korra’s back is absolutely killing her.”
“Ow~!” Korra drawled dramatically.
“Uh, sure?” Mako questioned. He walked over to Korra’s vehicle and untied (Y/N’s) pack from it. “I think Tonraq said we were leaving in a few minutes, so I’ll be over there.”
“Sounds great, she’ll be right there,” Asami said.
“I’m not going,” (Y/N) said with a shake of her head.
“I thought you said it was a good conversation?” Korra questioned.
“You guys are so lucky I’m not a bender and I’m not very good at hand-to-hand combat because--” She shook her fist at both of them. “You’d be getting it!” She stomped over to Mako, a frown etched on her face.
“Everything alright?” He asked. She let the frown fade from her face.
“Everything’s fine,” She said with a sigh. “Korra and Asami are just being big pains.”
“Don’t I know it.” Mako strapped his helmet and placed (Y/N’s) on top of her head, buckling it underneath her chin. He then tied a rope that connected the two of them, as Korra had done yesterday. “Safety first,” He said with a smile. (Y/N) felt her face flush as he helped her onto the snowmobile. Shyly, she wrapped her arms around his middle, and then they were off toward the Spirit World Portal.
This trip was much shorter than the previous day’s. The portal was only an hour or two away from where they had camped. While (Y/N) was surprised that they had arrived so soon, there was no doubt that they were there, as the portal was a beam of warm yellow light that shot into the sky. It lay in the middle of the woods, only accessible by foot.
They parked their snowmobiles on the outskirts of the woods. Tonraq began setting up his tent; they had agreed that someone should stay behind with a radio just in case anything went wrong and they needed backup. But to (Y/N’s) surprise, Asami was setting up her own tent as well.
“You’re not coming with us?” She asked. Asami raised an eyebrow and shook her head.
“We agreed before you woke up this morning that someone else should stay behind with Korra’s dad to help keep watch. You obviously need to go, as does Korra, and I knew Bolin and Mako would be absolutely horrible if they had no idea what was going on inside. So, I decided to stay.”
(Y/N) frowned. While the reasoning was sound, it still made her sad that Asami wouldn’t be accompanying them on their journey. She and (Y/N) had developed a real friendship over the last few weeks. They had spent nearly all of their time together. It would be strange, not having her around.
“Be safe, okay?” (Y/N) asked, throwing her arms around Asami and squeezing her into a hug.
“You’re going into a completely new dimension and you’re telling me to be safe?” Asami laughed, but she wrapped her arms around (Y/N’s) frame and hugged tightly. “I can’t wait to hear all about your memories.” The two friends parted and (Y/N) lifted her pack onto her back.
“Ready?” Korra asked, and she, Bolin, and Mako nodded. Their group said their goodbyes to Tonraq and Asami before Korra led them into the woods.
“The last time I was here, I was frozen into a block of ice by an ex-girlfriend,” Bolin said. (Y/N) raised an eyebrow at him. “It wasn’t you! It was Korra’s cousin from the Northern Water Tribe.”
“The one with the evil dad?” (Y/N) asked.
“That’s the one!” Bolin nodded.
“This is it,” Korra said as they stopped in front of the Spirit World Portal. (Y/N) could feel its energy radiating from outside the forest, but now it was even more prominent. “Next stop, Spirit World.” She turned around to look at (Y/N), whose face looked as if she had seen a ghost. “Everything alright?”
(Y/N) nodded, gulping. “I’m okay,” She nodded again, trying to convince herself that she was speaking the truth. What if getting her memories back wasn’t necessarily a good thing? Something had blocked them out. Perhaps they had done it for her own benefit. But they had come this far, so she remained silent as she stepped through the threshold and into the Spirit World.
It was an odd feeling, transitioning between two planes. It felt like each particle of (Y/N’s) body was buzzing, until suddenly she was on the other side and staring at so many colors, some that she was sure she had never seen before. She released the breath she had been holding as she stepped through.
Indescribable beings flew overhead, cawing and cooing at them. Korra had been right: the Spirit World was significantly warmer than the South Pole. The group removed their jackets as (Y/N) took in her surroundings. Currently, they stood in the middle of a rocky wasteland, but patches of flowers and grass popped up here and there. In the middle stood a gnarled tree with a hollowed out middle.
“That’s the Tree of Time,” Korra explained. “That’s where the first Avatar had imprisoned Vaatu, the dark spirit that I defeated a month ago. His energy made this part of the Spirit World a wasteland, but it’s healing.”
“It’s beautiful,” (Y/N) breathed, and Korra smiled. Their group walked across the barren land to the greener parts of the Spirit World. Butterfly-like animals flittered around them as they walked and Korra explained her many trips to this place. Mako and Bolin had been here as well, although they had never been further than the Tree of Time. That helped (Y/N) feel less out of place.
“So, where do we find this Iroh guy?” Mako asked.
“You think he has any relation to General Iroh?” Bolin questioned. “I mean, how many Iroh’s can there really be, y’know?”
“He’s Iroh as in, Zuko and Iroh,” Korra informed them, and Bolin let out a shocked gasp. While she was nervous about getting her memories back, (Y/N) would definitely be grateful not to be absolutely lost when things were discussed.
“There it is!” Korra exclaimed, and then she started running. The others dashed behind her, not quite sure of where she was going, until a small house appeared seemingly out of nowhere and they were right in front of it. A small tea party of spirits and one human sat at a table in the garden.
“Korra!” The old man exclaimed. “Welcome back! We were just about to start afternoon tea.” He peaked behind her at her friends. “And you brought company! The more the better, I think I have some extra teacups in the house.”
“Hi, Iroh,” Korra said. “We really appreciate it, but we don’t really have time--” But the old man was already headed inside his house. When he returned, he held four additional teacups and a bright smile on his face.
“Sit, sit,” He insisted. Korra looked to (Y/N), who shrugged, and dropped her backpack to the ground and took a seat. If having tea was what she needed to do in order to get her memories back, then she would do it. “You!” Iroh said as he placed (Y/N’s) teacup in front of her. “I’ve heard many things about you. Welcome back.”
“Back?” (Y/N) questioned, looking at her friends. “I’ve been here before?”
“You are (Y/N), yes?” She nodded. “When Korra first visited me to ask about you, I did not know much.” He placed a hand to the side of his mouth. “Spirits are horrible gossips sometimes, and I did not want to lead the Avatar on a path different from the one you must take. But I have asked many a visitor about you and they have all said the same thing: you were here, not too long ago, but you were here for a while.”
“Why was she here?” Mako questioned before (Y/N) could. Iroh sighed as he poured their tea.
“Whatever the reason, it was not good. Many of my friends say they saw her enter the dark part of our realm and she did not leave for a long time.”
“It’s true!” One of the spirits interjected, an oddly blue wolf. “I saw you months ago with my own four eyes. You looked nothing like you do now. You came through the portals, yeah? Last time, someone brought you here the other way.”
“You mean through meditation?” Korra asked. The spirit nodded.
“Whatever it was, something powerful had to do it. I couldn’t do nothing like that.”
“So, powerful spirit in the dark parts of the Spirit World. Forgive me if I’m wrong, but it doesn’t sound like something a good spirit would do.” (Y/N) looked to Iroh to confirm her suspicions.
“Spirits are neither good nor bad, unless we are discussing Vaatu and Raava. But there are some spirits whose motives become skewed.”
(Y/N) deflated in her seat. The spirit who had taken her memories was powerful and most likely dangerous. And if they found it, she would be leading her friends right to them.
They finished their tea with Iroh before continuing on their journey. Bolin had talked excitedly with him about his adventures with Avatar Aang and Fire Lord Zuko, whoever those people were, and Iroh gave him a Jasmine Dragon teacup to take back to the mortal realm. The entire time that they talked, (Y/N) was incredibly distracted by what Iroh had told them.
“We should go back,” (Y/N) said suddenly. All three of her friends stopped and looked at her as if she were insane.
“But, you need to get your memories back,” Bolin said.
“I’ll just start over,” She insisted. “I can start fresh. Whatever this spirit is, it isn’t good, and I don’t want to hand you guys to it on a silver platter. We’ll go back and I’ll just learn to live without my memories.”
“There are pieces of you you’ll never get back. Important memories that might have meant a lot to you. You deserve answers, (Y/N), for everything that’s happened to you.” Bolin grabbed her hands and she felt that same shock of electricity run through her body every time he touched her.
“It’s not worth it if it means you guys will get hurt.”
“Stop trying to play hero,” Mako said suddenly, his voice much harsher than it had been the night before. “If we didn’t want to be here to help you, we wouldn’t be.”
“You shouldn’t be helping me. You guys fight every day for the greater good, for the people of the world. I’m one person. You can’t get yourselves hurt over one person. This,” She gestured to the entirety of the Spirit World, but referred to their mission. “Isn’t as important than whatever is going on back in the mortal world.”
“But you’re important,” Korra said suddenly. “You’re important to Bolin and Mako and you’ve become important to Asami and I. The Avatar fights for the greater good, but as your friend, I’ll do whatever it takes so that you can feel like yourself again.”
(Y/N) felt her eyes watering. Why weren’t they getting it? “If anything happened to you guys while we’re here, I wouldn’t be able to forgive myself.”
“And if we gave up on you, I wouldn’t be able to forgive myself,” Bolin said. She looked up at him through watery eyes. “No matter what we’ve been through, we care about you. I care about you. And we’re going to get that dumb spirit to give your memories back.”
(Y/N) looked from him to Korra to Mako, whose head immediately turned as soon as her eyes landed on him. “Okay,” she said. “But I think this is a horrible idea.”
“I find that horrible ideas make the best stories,” Bolin said with a smile.
Reblogging this to play Devil's advocate sort of. I've seen a lot of Azula antis in the tag but I don't think that OP is one of them. I feel like they are getting dogpiled and that's kind of not fair. Like not trying to call anyone out or start anything. Kind of the opposite; I feel like OP is getting a bit of hostility here when OP just stated an opinion in a respectful way. Also OP does say, "finally will have an opportunity to learn who she is if not a weapon and a princess, without pressure coming from being the bender and weaponized." Which to me indicates that this person doesn't even dislike Azula. At the very least OP doesn't want her to suffer.
That said I still massively disagree with this take as I think that taking her bending would do more harm than good. I really hate fics and stuff where Azula loses her bending for good. It is so integral to her identity that I think that it would just break her to lose it for good.
Legend Of Korra exemplifies this very well. Tahno was super depressed after losing his bending; it broke him and he couldn't deal with it. I feel like it would be like that for Azula but worse.
Aang's semi-reluctance to do it to Ozai is also saying something. That was a last resort. Bending is so closely intertwined to the bender that it's literally like losing a part of themselves.
I feel like it's cruel/inhumane to take it.
Granted I think there's some more nuance because, yes, Azula is a danger (not just to others) but herself as well by the end of the show. However I feel like chi blocking her for some time would be better than outright taking her bending.
I can, however, get behind Aang taking her bending for a period of time. Basically, "we're taking this from you for now so you don't hurt yourself or other but you will get it back at some point during or after your recovery." I feel like that offers an opportunity for real growth. It would very much help establish trust if Aang upholds his promise to give her bending back.
This can also help her develop a sense of identity and self-worth outside of bending and talents. So basically I agree wtih OP stating, "finally will have an opportunity to learn who she is if not a weapon and a princess, without pressure coming from being the bender and weaponized." I don't think that losing her bending is the only way to achieve this, but I can see OP's like of thinking here and how it could work to a degree.
In other words; if done right, taking her bending could work BUT only if that comes with a promise to eventually give it back to her when she's in a better state of mind.
I hope that I explained everything right and didn't sound augmentative. Also this is directed at no one in particular. I kind of stepped out of discourse and this is one of the first discourse type thing I've done in a while so yeah lol.
I think that Azula's bending should have been taken away by Aang by the end of the show, and her title too. Because not only she will not be dangerous anymore as she was (especially for Zuko and his place as Fire Lord, since she can't be Fire Nation ruler anymore), but finally will have an opportunity to learn who she is if not a weapon and a princess, without pressure coming from being the bender and weaponized. Other nations would see this as fair punishment, but for her this is opportunity to start a new life, even if under supervision at first.
Wuko in the comics
Welcome to my first post discussing Wuko in the LoK comic books!
This first post will be discussing Turf Wars- which unfortunately does not feature Wu. But there are lots of excellent Mako moments, and there are some major plot points that carry over into the next comic trilogy.
Turf Wars is the first LoK comic trilogy released after the finale. Though it was released two and half years after the finale aired, it picks up right where we left off. While the creators confirmed after the finale aired that Korrasami was canon, the last moments of the animated series were a little ambiguous (on purpose, since this was a time when queer representation was just not considered "acceptable" in children's media-it was truly the only way they could get away with it). The comics definitively remove all ambiguity. Turf Wars features multiple frames of Korra and Asami kissing, holding hands, and coming out to their friends and family.
The overarching plot of Turf Wars is a conflict over the land upon which the new spirit portal sets. There is also conflict between rival Triad gangs, the Triple Threats and the Creeping Crystals, over turf in Republic City following the chaos of Kuvira's invasion. These two sets of turf wars overlap when a business tycoon hires the Triple Threats to secure the spirit portal for him by driving others off. The new Leader of the Triple Threats, Tokuga, is attacked by a spirit defending the portal, causing him to gain a dragon-like appearance and a new agenda-seizing control of all Republic City. In the midst of all this there is a refugee crisis, a presidential election, and Korra and Asami trying to navigate their new relationship once they return to the real world with all their responsibilities.
Notable plot points and character developments:
Korra and Asami canon is confirmed (repeatedly)-They come out to family and their friends
Business owner Wonyong Keum, who owns the land upon which the new portal sits, demands everyone vacate so he can turn it into a tourist attraction for profit-prompting Korra to enter the Avatar state to temporarily drive him away.
An unhappy spirit requests Korra closes the portal to prevent exploitation of the spirit world.
Bolin joins Mako as his rookie detective partner.
Zhu Li is running efforts to care for refugees who lost their homes during Kuvira’s attack and teams up with Asami to begin rebuilding homes for everyone displaced.
Tokuga is introduced as the leader of the Triple Threats, fighting for control of the streets with Jargala, the leader of the Creeping Crystals.
Kya reveals she is queer and gives us a history lesson on the context of LGBTQ+ history in the world.
Tokuga is attacked by the afore-mentioned spirit and his right arm and half his face become dragon-esque.
Raiko is a colossal idiot. He is way too focused on getting reelected and making his decisions based on what his campaign advisor suggests, rather than just, you know, governing his city. He calls the military to occupy the portal, prompting the Airbenders to peacefully protest.
Zhu Li runs against Raiko for the presidency. She rallies more protesters to protect the spirit portal while her husband films her for his newest project- a “docu-mover” which he presumably uses to influence the election.
Asami and Keum are kidnapped by Tokuga and forced to make a poison gas device bring the city under Tokuga’s control.
The Krew manages to save the day of course, thanks to Asami’s wit, Korra’s unstoppable stubbornness, and back-up from Bolin and Mako. Except Mako, bless him, says he’ll “take care of Tokuga”, and then promptly loses him.
Tokuga mysteriously disappears into the spirit world.
Zhu Li wins the presidency.
Korra and Asami share a lovely, romantic moment where they exchange their first “I love you”s at the conclusion of the comic.
Mako scenes
There is no Wu in the Turf Wars comics (Unless you count one line of dialogue where it is mentioned that the Earth Kingdom is sending supplies to help the refugee situation) - however, there is plenty of Mako! Mako’s primary role in this series is as a detective trying to find and stop the Triads from waging their turf war in the city.
Our first scenes with Mako shows him back to being a detective- and his brother is his partner. He doesn’t seem super thrilled to be working with Bolin, but I think it’s just because he knows how his brother is- not that he doesn’t want to spend time with him. They are trying to track down the new leader of the triple threats and control gang activity. Mako’s arm is still in a sling, he’s got his usual brooding grumpy facial expression, and his hair is spiky again! He and Bolin arrest two-toed Ping and try to interrogate him. Two-toed Ping is weirdly proud of Mako and Bolin for rising up from being “nobodies” to a couple of “bigtime cops”.
They catch up with Korra and Asami, and the four of them are alerted by Jinora that the Triple threats are attacking the Airbenders that were meditating at the portal. Asami gets hurt in the battle and she and Korra share a kiss in front of everyone:
Look at Opal’s sweet face. She looks like she’s barely containing her excitement and is maybe squealing a bit, and she’s looking directly at Bolin which I think is a sweet moment to show their relationship. Bolin calls dibs on the first double date.
Mako probably needs time to process the information....
Mako and Bolin do some detective work to try and find Tokuga. There is an interesting scene where they are questioning Scoochy (We saw him in the first season, he’s the kid that told Korra and Mako the Bolin went to do some work for the triple threats before getting captured by equalists) Bolin tells Mako they should do “good cop, bad cop”, with Bolin being the good cop. Mako gets annoyed, and Bolin asks if he’s grumpy because his exes are dating. Mako insists he’s cool with it- though he’s got a distressed look on his face. They catch up to Scoochy and Bolin actually loses his temper and is rather menacing. Mako pulls Bolin back and genuinely connects with Scoochy- relating to his past, pushing him to do the right thing and help others. I really liked this moment because it shows how much character growth he’s had when you compare the way he treated Kai in season 3. (They are ultimately unsuccessful and Scoochy’s tip leads them to a room rigged with explosives- but I don’t think Scoochy knew that, I think he was fed false info).
There’s another touching scene, after Asami is kidnapped, where Mako notices how upset Korra seems as everyone is trying to form a plan to stop Tokuga. He steps aside to check in and see how she’s feeling. He comforts her’ empathizes with her, and reassures her that they are going to find Asami. At this point he seems to have fully processed that they are together and seems to fully accept it and is very supportive. Not easy considering the awkward position he’s in as both their exes. In this scene, Mako also informs Korra that he can’t firebend with his injured arm.
Mako and Bolin helps Korra to find Asami by requesting help from Jargala- in spite of the fact that Chief Beifong told them not to… They show up for Korra and Asami even if it means risking their jobs. They team up and fight the bad guys together, just like the old days.
We see many examples of how bad the damage is from Mako’s injury in the Colossus. He can’t bend with his left arm, it’s in a sling almost the whole comic, and he really doesn’t seem to be at the top of his game. He told Bolin he would take care of catching Tokuga, but apparently couldn’t and lost him. Mako’s injury is pretty bad and it’s probably really frustrating.
At the end, Bolin decides to quit the force (surprise. The guy loves to hop from calling to calling!). He makes a big dramatic speech to Mako, talking about how it’s time they go their separate ways. Mako is like “Um I’m going to see you at home in like two hours”, so it sounds like they are living together.
What all this might mean for Wuko
So now I’m going to try to tie things back into how all this affects the potential of Wuko- whether that’s for headcanons or fics or whatever- and just try to give you an idea of what this comic means for Wuko shippers.
Wu is governing in the Earth Kingdom right now. It is mentioned by Zhu Li that the Earth Kingdom sent supplies, so one can assume Wu has taken his place on the throne and the Earth Kingdom is in a stable enough position to be sending supplies to aid another nation. Nothing is mentioned about efforts to transform the Earth Kingdom into a democratic nation (we’ll get to that in the Ruins of the Empire comics).
Mako’s primary relationships that are explored are with his brother and with Korra. His relationship with Bolin is just as it always is. He loves his brother even if he is a little exhausted by his upbeat, enthusiastic attitude. We build up on his final interaction with Korra from the animated series and continue to firmly establish them as friends and amicable exes. Interestingly, we don’t get any meaningful Mako and Asami interactions. When he is comforting Korra, he relates to her by remembering how worried he was when Korra was kidnapped by Amon. He doesn't try to say “Yeah I’m really worried about Asami too”, which, to me is bizarre because he and Asami are friends too, right? I don’t know if we should read too much into it though- most likely it was just a writing choice that we aren’t meant to psycho-analyze- but it could also mean he is being careful with his words so that Korra doesn’t wonder if he still has feelings for Asami. The love triangle is completely resolved and Mako is out of the picture romantically with either of them and has no lingering romantic feelings. In other words, he is 100% ready available for a relationship with someone else.
The scene where Kya gives us a history lesson establishes how LGBTQ+ people are viewed in the world of LoK. In short, Korra and Asami are fully supported by their friends and family, and even their enemies acknowledge their relationship without any homophobic tones. The closest we get to homophobia is Korra's father, who, after expressing his happiness at their relationship, warns Korra to be cautious going forward because not everyone will be as understanding. Kya gives us a quick lesson on how same-gender relationships are viewed across the nations: The water tribe, being a patriarchal culture, expects discretion. The Earth Kingdom is not particularly accepting-Kya says that Avatar Kyoshi was bisexual but couldn't affect "real change" and that the earth kingdom is the slowest to accept change and is also militarily repressive (full disclosure I have not read the Kyoshi comics, maybe there is additional insight in those?). And in the fire nation, Sozin made same-gender relationships illegal when he took power (I hope Zuko undid all that when he became Firelord). The air nation is the only one that seems truly accepting-Kya paints a picture of total acceptance and says that Aang was supportive when she herself came out. Korra is worried that maybe her father was right, but Asami points out that a lot has changed over the years and everyone seems accepting, especially in Republic City.
I think what we can take away from this as far as Wuko goes- is that in Republic City, same-gender relationships are not much of an issue, while in the Earth Kingdom it could be viewed negatively. One could make a case that Wu might have cause to be closeted, while Mako might not. (Feel free to reject this history canon and substitute your own. I’d just as soon say that no one in the avatar-verse cares if you aren’t cis or het).
In conclusion. Mako is just a guy trying very hard to be a good, supportive friend to his exes who are now dating each other. He loves them (platonically) he loves his brother, he’s kind and has matured a lot, but he still always has a grumpy look on his face so it’s time for him to move on and get together with Wu.
Well, that’s Turf Wars. I did cram the plot of three comic books into one post, so I certainly did not hit all the details. If you feel I missed something crucial, feel free to reblog with your own takes. Next I’ll discuss Ruins of the Empire, in which we get lots of Wu and potential Wuko moments, a sizable helping of angst and even some Wu & Korra friendship! RotE is a really fun comic trilogy and I’ll be breaking it down into multiple posts. Thanks for reading everyone!
Dating korra would include
BEING KORRA’S S/O[GENDER NEUTRAL]
BEING ZUKO’S S/O | BEING SOKKA’S S/O
SUMMARY: life with korra from confession to marriage
WORD COUNT: 2.1k
WARNINGS: no major spoilers
A/N: SOMEONE WITH T A S T E, i hope you don’t mind but i kinda just did the same thing i did for my zuko headcannons so feel free to scroll straight to the during the relationship bit if you just want dating korra h/c :D
also i have 300 followers now what, i literally had 200 like yesterday hi everyone <3 um i really need to start pulling out all the stops
GETTING INTO THE RELATIONSHIP
she’s a simp.
that’s it. thats the headcannon. she has literally liked you since she met you and has said nothing, but you probably know since she’s so damn OBVIOUS ABOUT IT
korra is very in tuned with her emotions so when she realizes she likes you she’s pretty okay with it, a little more flustered during your interactions, but after a while her goal is to make you feel how she feel which is flustered.
she has no shame though, she knows she is hot and she wants you to know she thinks you are hot
lots of flirting on her end, so naturally you kinda begin to think she is joking and think nothing of it
this was not her intent, and now that you are desensitized to her flirting and not reacting flustered like you did when she first started she is frustrated™
you were not understanding that she very much likes you
stupid
she hasn’t said anything outright to you about it though, which is the main reason you are like lol this is a joke, my crush fake flirts with me i am okay
spoiler alert: you are not okay with this it hurts ow
so now shes getting ridiculously affectionate with you, which, tbh, she always was, but not its RIDICULOUS, korra is out here throwing an arm around your shoulder, randomly grabbing your hand, kissing your cheek
shes trying really hard to get her point across like really really hard
like painfully hard
if she likes you its probably because your fun, like you really spice up her life and introduce her to new things and go on really dumb adventures and really important missions with her and you put up with her and wow now korra is simping oops
you’re also probably forcing her to stay healthy, since i honestly think that despite having such an appetite, korra will forget to eat and take care of herself sometimes.
she is so bad at drinking water i swear to goD
there are two situations here
situation one is where korra finally realizes that you CANNOT READ SIGNALS AT ALL and decides she going to be upfront with you about her feelings
she’s either going to just flat out kiss you next time she sees you or spill all her emotions, of both in no particular order
you’re like reading in your room in the air temple, just vibing, and you see her coming towards you with a determined look on her face and you’re like ??? lol okay
you go back to reading only to have her hand reach under you jaw and she brings you into a kiss and now you’re like LOL OKAY
you honestly think that this is just another one of her stunts to get you flustered and means nothing
stoopid
and then she pulls apart and just starts spilling her feelings and you’re like :O omg me too
and she’s like, “great, we’re dating now.” and suddenly she’s kissing you again, and between kisses you’re like, “im sorry what?”
“you heard me. do you have a problem with that?”
you just kiss her again
situation two is where you get sick of her and realize woah she may or may not be in love with you and so you confront her, and now there is a lot of yelling because you are frustrated™ and like screw you korra
you honestly think she is either madly in love with you and just doing this as a joke, and you genuinely think the latter is more like so you lowkey start crying and korra immediately begins to panic
she’s like, “why would i ever joke about that! i’ve literally been trying to get that through your thick skull this whole time!”
this time you kiss her first and korra is throwing a party in her head but she also feels really bad for making you cry oops
DURING THE RELATIONSHIP
okay so korra happens to be very much a simp
and you happen to be very much the mom friend™ it doesn’t matter if you are a boy girl or none of the above, that is your trademark my friend
she’s very affectionate and now that the two of you are dating she is at a whole new level.
important meeting? you are in her lap she does not care. war meeting? she is cuddling you as you explain the plans of attack and DAMN DO YOU LOOK GOOD DOING it
since being the avatar is MUCH more a political position now though, she does try to keep your relationship slightly on the down low, even before you were dating, you both had reporters constantly asking about your relationship and she doesn’t really like that
they are nosy and she does not approve. korra understands wanting to know about her avatar duties, but anything outside of that in regards to her personal life annoys her
loves kissing you, and when she does it tends to be intense and passionate. after a particularly tough day though, her kisses can either be slow and sensual because she just wants to have a nice soft and domestic day with you
OR
they can be harsh and almost brutish, she will get rough with you because she is highkey pissed at everything that day and making out you with is her stress reliever
really likes cuddling and anything domestic in general. she’s really happy with you, and she kinda has all the love languages
she seeks validation when the press is particularly harsh since being the avatar is HARD and as much as she wants to, she cannot please anyone, so please tell her she is doing amazing
so many acts of service up in here, she will randomly do stuff for you, spontaneity is kinda her vibe ya know
very vocal and expressive about her feelings, communication is key with her
arguments aren’t a rarity tbh, but when they do happen they tend to be more of debates over little things like what’s better, pineapple pizza or no?
major fights tend to end poorly since she can be a little stubborn when it comes to such things, but she will admit she was wrong and apologize IF she was wrong
if she wasn’t wrong but the argument got out of hand, she’ll apologize for that but will affirm her correctness
kiss her scars, she has them, and she is proud of them but
support her at her pro bending matches and she will DIE, so happy, literally sososososososo happy, hugs you, loves you, yes
treats you as an equal no matter what, even if people think that as the avatar she should see herself as something more than
very protective of you.
like if someone flirts with you, she is clingy x10. if someone hits on you despite your protests, she HITS them. if someone threatens to hurt you, she promises to end them.
MARRIAGE N STUFF
WELP
she’s gonna realize she wants to propose when she almost loses you, or in the middle of a battle. when the reality of potentially losing you hits her she is gonna realize she wants to live out the rest of her life by your side, protecting you
situation one is where she literally, in the MIDDLE OF BATTLE, without a ring, just proposes. you are being a baddie, bending if you are a bender, fighting the opposing enemy, looking MIGHTY FINE while doing it
“marry me.”
you falter, nearly getting hit as your head whips over to her and you’re like, “ARE YOU SERIOUS?”
and she throws a giant rock at the opposition, temporarily indisposing them, “yes?? why wouldn’t i be.”
Someone comes up behind you and you elbow them in the face and ram your foot into their knee, knocking them down, “RIGHT NOW?”
she throws a whip of water in your direction and you dodge it, allowing her to take out the enemy behind you, and you throw a whole dagger at her to do the same. “that was close.” she narrows her eyes at you bc you lowkey look like you wanna kill her rn as you two hide behind a barricade for cover and an explosion washes over it, “you could’ve killed me.”
“you just about gave me a heart attack when you PROPOSED two minutes ago, need i remind you.”
korra raised a brow at you, “is that a no...?”
“do you even have a ring?”
korra gives you a look that gives you the answer and you groan, “i cannot believe you.”
“you really should’ve expected this.”
“i know.”
“i get to pick the ring then?”
“you’re probably going to plan the whole wedding.”
“alright.”
theres a boom from beyond the barricade you two have hidden behind as korra looks to you, “alright?”
“i’ll marry you.” you elaborate, giving her a bright smile.
situation two is more depressing lol
you have been SHOT oops, don’t die pls because korra CANNOT handle it after everything that has happened to her, so if you die she’s done
she’s kinda just sitting at your bed side and it hits her that you could die basically any day now, and she would have so many regrets
she wished she kissed you more, told you she loved you more, held you longer, spent more mornings with you and your bedhead, she wished she learnt to cook so that she could surprise you with a meal when you get home from a long day of work, she wishes she did a lot of things
she wishes you two were married.
korra is now having an existential crisis, and everyone is telling her that she has to go home, get some rest, you’ll wake up eventually, you’ll get better, but you dont wanna wake up to korra being a mess
she knew they were right, you always scolded her for not taking care of herself, so she decided to follow some of their wishes
Korra cannot bring herself to go home, there are so many reminders of you that it hurts, and she kinda just decides she’ll stay in a hotel and wash up and such.
besides, you are her home.
after leaving the hotel, she ends up going the jeweler and buying the ring she believes screams you
when korra returns to the hospital, she contemplated proposing right then and there, before realizing that you’d probably yell at her for choosing such a ridiculous time and you already had a lot on your plate
once the two of you return home and you are in the midst of recovery, she did learn to cook, so you wouldn’t feel the need to do so, and given your situation she fears you’ll injure yourself further in the process.
you two are eating dinner and you’re babbling on about something you’d read, and she suddenly decides to get up and walk over to you, leaving you like ???
then she gets down on one knee and you are like :O
she’s like, “marry me.”
naturally, you start crying and nodding because wow this is such an intimate moment and just happiness
kissinggggg after that
the wedding is, under NO CIRCUMSTANCE public, the most private and intimate wedding ever. korra hates reporters after her life as the avatar, she doesnt want strangers at her wedding.
any and everyone she has ever fought beside is there though, its wholesome and nice
definitely cries when she sees you at the altar
her vows are MASTERFUL AND TEARJERKING
its a pretty basic wedding though, unless you prefer something over the top, the food is nice a mix of both your cultures and favorite things and there’s beautiful lighting
definitely done on air temple island, and tbh tenzin would probably walk you down the aisle because i said so
married life with her is even better, she lives for he domesticity of it all, especially lazy sunday mornings with the light filtering in and you just looking all pretty and having a lil fun
iykyk
honeymoon in the spirit word lads
bolin is your number one supporter
life with korra is a 10/10 i do recommend it
A/N: im kinda in love with korra lol this requests made me happy
Bisexual Kyoshi is something that can be so personal, actually
Panel edit by @flagellasturbation
[image I.D. : An edit of a comic panel of avatar Kyoshi. On the left in the image is a close-up of Kyoshi from the torso up, contained within an upside-down trapezoid shape. She wears her full battle uniform of olive and emerald robes, dark gloves and bracers, and a golden headpiece in a fan-like shape. Her eyes are the same emerald shade as her robes, she has black hair billowing to the left edge of the image, and her black eyebrows have been dramatically lengthened by black face paint. Her face and neck are artificially whitened with chalky makeup, she has black winged eyeliner, red eyeshadow that sweeps upwards to her temples and down the sides of her nose, and red lipstick outlined in black. This is the classic Kyoshi makeup. Her arms are crossed, the left arm behind her head pointing a golden fan away from the viewer, the right arm extended in front of her face, another golden fan pointed towards the viewer. She appears to be looking upwards and towards the right of the image. Above Kyoshi’s eye level and in the top right of the image is a comic text box. It reads in all caps: “even avatar Kyoshi- who by all accounts loved men and women- was unable to effect any kind of real progress.” The background art and color has been replaced with the Bisexual Flag, a thick horizontal line of pink on top, stopping at Kyoshi’s cheek level, then a thinner line of purple ending at her shoulders, and a thick line of blue that extends to the bottom of the image. End I.D.]
(If someone does not find my image I.D. sufficient, please let me know. This is my first time trying to make such a thing, as i am a lurker, not a poster)
Rise of Kyoshi by F.C. Yee, page 99 (text copy / pasted from the b&n ebook version)
““Are those . . . fire lilies?” he said, a wide, knowing grin spreading across his face.
Kyoshi flushed beet red. “Stop it,” she said.
“That’s right,” Yun said. “The Ember Island tourism minister brought a bunch when he visited two weeks ago. I can’t believe you simply shred the flowers once they dry out. I guess nothing goes to waste in this house.”
“Knock it off,” Kyoshi snapped. But it was too hard keeping the corners of her lips from curling upward.
“Knock what off?” he said, enjoying her reaction. “I’m just commenting on a fragrance I’ve come to particularly enjoy.”
It was an inside reference that only the two of them shared. Rangi didn’t know. She hadn’t been there in the gifting room eight months ago while Kyoshi arranged a vast quantity of fire lilies sent by an admiral in the Fire Navy, one of Hei-Ran’s friends.
Yun had spent the afternoon watching Kyoshi work. Against every scrap of her better judgment, she’d allowed him to lie down on the floor and rest his head in her lap while she plucked deformed leaves and trimmed stems to the right length. Had anyone caught the two of them like that, there would have been a scandal that not even the Avatar could have recovered from.
That day, entranced by Yun’s upside-down features dappled with the flower petals she’d teasingly sprinkled over his face, she’d almost leaned down and kissed him. And he knew it. Because he’d almost reached up and kissed her.
They never spoke of it afterward, the shared impulse that had nearly crashed both of their carriages. It was too . . . well, they each had their duties was a good way to put it. That moment did not fit anywhere among their responsibilities.
But since then, whenever the two of them were in the presence of fire lilies, Yun’s eyes would dart toward the flowers repeatedly until he was sure Kyoshi noticed. She would try unsuccessfully to keep a straight face, the heat coloring her neck, and he’d sigh as if to mourn what could have been.
Today was no different. With a wistful blush on his own cheeks, Yun stared her down until her defenses broke and she let out a giggle through her nose.
“There’s that beautiful smile,” he said. He pressed his heels into the floor, sliding up against the wall, and straightened his rumpled shirt. “Kyoshi, trust me when I say this: If it turns out not to be me, I’ll be glad it’s you.”
Rise of Kyoshi by F.C. Yee, page 210 (text copy / pasted from the b&n ebook version)
“You think you don’t deserve peace and happiness and good things, but you do!” Rangi yelled. “You, Kyoshi! Not the Avatar, but you!”
She closed the distance and wrapped her arms around Kyoshi’s waist. The embrace was a clever way to hide her face.
“Do you have any idea how painful it’s been for me to follow you on this journey where you’re so determined to punish yourself?” she said. “Watching you treat yourself like an empty vessel for revenge, when I’ve known you since you were a servant girl who couldn’t bend a pebble? The Avatar can be reborn. But you can’t, Kyoshi. I don’t want to give you up to the next generation. I couldn’t bear to lose you.”
Kyoshi realized she’d had it all wrong. Rangi was a true believer. But her greatest faith had been for her friends, not her assignment. She pulled Rangi in closer. She thought she heard a slight, contented sigh come from the other girl.
“I wish I could give you your due,” Rangi muttered after some time had passed. “The wisest teachers. Armies to defend you. A palace to live in.”
Kyoshi raised an eyebrow. “The Avatar gets a palace?”
“No, but you deserve one.”
“I don’t need it,” Kyoshi said. She smiled into Rangi’s hair, the soft strands caressing her lips. “And I don’t need an army. I have you.”
Psh,” Rangi scoffed. “A lot of good I’ve been so far. If I were better at my job you would never feel scared. Only loved. Adored by all.”
Kyoshi gently nudged Rangi’s chin upward. She could no more prevent herself from doing this than she could keep from breathing, living, fearing.
“I do feel loved,” she declared.
Rangi’s beautiful face shone in reflection. Kyoshi leaned in and kissed her.
A warm glow mapped Kyoshi’s veins. Eternity distilled in a single brush of skin. She thought she would never be more alive than now.
And then—
The shock of hands pushing her away. Kyoshi snapped out of her trance, aghast.
Rangi had flinched at the contact. Repelled her. Viscerally, reflexively.
Oh no. Oh no.
This couldn’t—not after everything they’d been through—this couldn’t be how it—
Kyoshi shut her eyes until they hurt. She wanted to shrink until she vanished within the cracks of the earth. She wanted to become dust and blow away in the wind.
But the sound of laughter pulled her back. Rangi was coughing, drowning herself with her own tears and mirth. She caught her breath and retook Kyoshi by the hips, turning to the side, offering up the smooth, unblemished skin of her throat.
“That side of my face is busted up, stupid,” she whispered in the darkness. “Kiss me where I’m not hurt.”
~~~~~
I include both these quotes because i've seen a few posts about the “gigantic lesbian” avatar, and although i am glad my sapphic sisters feel connected to Kyoshi (as well they should!), that doesn't mean i wish to simply be quiet on the matter of her textual bisexuality. I understand that not everyone has read her novels, nor has everyone read legend of Korra comics, but Kyoshi is *textually* bisexual.
Kyoshi had a loving romantic relationship with her firebending friend Rangi, but this does not erase her feelings for her earthbending friend Yun, even if neither of them were able to properly express it due to their respective “status”. (For context if you haven’t read, the masters believed that Yun was the avatar, and though he was bodyguarded by Rangi, and though Kyoshi was his servent, the three of them were simiar ages and thus close friends until the discovery of Kyoshi’s true ability destroyed their former lives). Hell, Kyoshi and Rangi do not become intimate until after fleeing their former lives. Who is to say what would have happened, had Yun not been captured by father glowworm ?
I know that there is a chance you will scoff at this, will write this off as comphet, accuse me of disproportionately weighting an almost-kiss with a true relationship, but these above quotes (as well as the comic panel from “the legend of korra: turf wars- part 1”) serve as proof that Kyoshi, “by all accounts loved men and women” (see panel directly below)
[image I.D. : the same comic panel as the edit above, this one without the bisexual flag edited in. Directly behind Kyoshi, within the upside-down trapezoid shape, is an olive to lime gradient, darker around her head and lighter near the bottom. Around and to the right in the image, outside of the trapezoid, is an aerial shot of buildings within an Earth Kingdom city, and what appears to be the lines of troops on the ground far below. the text box in the image is the same, but I have underlined the word “men” in blue, the word “and” in purple, and the word “women” in pink, to reflect the bisexual flag. End I.D.]
I am making such a big deal over this because Kyoshi is a massive figure, her long shadow cast over Aang’s life alongside Roku’s, and even before her novels came out there were often jokes about her “bloodthirsty” nature. I implore you to read the novels and see why Kyoshi believed in deadly justice at times, but also so you can see what a dynamic, loving, and beautiful character she is.
Some members of fandom have taken a “step on me” attitude towards Kyoshi, who has, even if the 7 feet tall thing is more fanon than canon, been explicitly described as “exceptionally tall”, and “towering” over others. This “strong woman who will break me and I thank them” attitude is one that butch &/or physically imposing sapphics, as well as trans women with similar statures to Kyoshi have expressed discomfort when applied to themselves and characters like them. I would love for more people to acknowledge her flaws and multi-faceted nature, that she is more than a “warrior goddess”, just as Aang is more than a living relic. Flattening her out to the easily-fetishable parts erases the depth of her character and the complexity of circumstances that led to the instances of deadly force.
There are very few bisexual characters in media, especially women, and especially in children’s media. Bisexual women have often been caricatured as loose, promiscuous, good for a threesome and not much else. (This is mot to say that i think any lesser of my fellow bisexuals who are proudly promiscious, nor can an actual live bisexual person be considered a stereotype for living their life, but media’s portayal of us as obsessed with desire is incredibly harmful). Knowing that a strong, beautiful, and important character in the avatar universe is a bisexual woman is amazing, even more so to have her first lady-love described in the novels with such care. F. C. Yee, the author of these novels, has my eternal gratitude. I sincerely hope that the new generation of fans, whether they are drawn to the cartoon or even the hypothetical live action show, will pick up these novels and discover the kind of bisexual character that I wish existed in my early days as a reader, and if a small fraction of them resonate with Kyoshi’s reciprocal on Yun and love for Rangi, then the world becomes a little bit brighter for it.
I mentioned her importance for the simple reason that Kyoshi IS important with the text of ATLA. As one of the avatars, she is one of the most historically important figures in that universe, one of the few avatars that Aang knows by name, and one of the only avatars to speak through his body. The fact that she has two whole novels to herself testifies to that effect, making her bisexual representation all the more important than a simple background character might be.
If or when the ATLA live action tv show occurs, we can expect some mention of Kyoshi. After all, there is a whole episode dedicated to exploring one of her missions, and the way that the descendants of her enemy have recolored history. It is my sincere desire that enough discussion is made about her canon bisexuality , that fandom trumphets it from the roof with as much force as crackshipping zukka, that when she does make it to the screen, there is some subtle nod in her bisexuality’s direction, even if it is something as meta as casting a bisexual actress for her. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

[image I.D. : An edit of a comic panel of avatar Kyoshi. This is like the first image, Kyoshi and the text box of the comic panel untouched, the background color and art replaced with the bisexual flag. However, this version has the words “by all accounts” blown up large and placed diagonally in the image, directly under Kyoshi’s face and stretching from one side of the image to the other. The bottom third of the image is similarly obscured, the words “men” , “and” , “women” blown up large enough to fill the panel and cover most of Kyoshi’s torso, as well as the purple and blue areas of the background flag. End I.D.]

do you actually write hc too? you have some angst lin hc?
!!! yeah!! i think i might’ve already posted some of these but yeah :)
there are a bunch so i’m gonna put them under the cut, also there are mentions of s*lf h*rm and other unhealthy coping mechanisms so be warned about that
she has scars literally all over her body, a few notables include;
obviously her scars from su, but those go without saying
rather large sized burn scars on her legs from an incident when her entire apartment building was set on fire and being the hero she is she walked through literal flames to before getting her uniform or anything to save the lives of other residents on her floor
a bunch of small scars from s*lf h*rm because ~unhealthy coping mechanisms~ on the inside of her lower thighs
one on the back of her head, hidden by her hair, from being slammed into the corner of a building on a police chase and cracking her skull open, resulting in one of her few “vacations” taken off of work due to being in hospital for a bit for recovery
she has struggled with alcoholism and drug use as coping mechanisms for her anxiety, depression, and OCD
she got very mad when kya left out of the blue when they were young but was mostly hurt and didn’t know how to express it
she held a grudge against kya for leaving until the su incident, at which point kya came back to comfort her and she gave up being mad at her, instead trusting her enough to cry with her but not really truly open up
after the last fight with kuvira and after they’d put her in holding and whatever she spent a ton of time visiting korra, mako, bolin, and asami, bringing them home cooked food and insisting that they rest and not really believing them when they tried to tell her they weren’t actually all that hurt
she had nightmares of amon for at least a full year almost nightly, and a couple of times during that period forced herself to stay awake for weeks at a time in an attempt to avoid them
she basically raised su on her own, taking her to school, going to her events, etc. and tried in vain to get toph involved in her sister’s life because she thought that if toph wouldn't be involved in her life, she could at least make an effort with su, but her attempts usually ended in yelling matches between her and toph
she makes it a personal duty to know every officer on the force by name, and has pretty detailed files on all of them including their family etc. which gives her joy because she knows that they're loved but it makes losing any one of them either on or off duty much worse because she knows who they were and who is gonna be mourning them etc
she keeps photos of every officer who dies while working on a table in her room along with the day they died and pretty much always has flowers on the table, adding one on the anniversary of each officer’s death and only getting rid of any flower when it’s completely dead
she never forgives herself for not being able to save the officers who’s bending was taken by amon and any time she sees them her guilt overwhelms her all over again
the first and probably only time she heard toph cry was after the yakone incident when she was 8 years old, when toph basically locked herself in her room and sobbed because bloodbending does not fun, and lin tried to go into her room to give her a hug or get food for her and baby su and toph just didn’t let them in, but then the next morning acted like nothing had happened
i have a bunch more but i’ll leave it at that for now, if u want anything regarding specifics of these or other things just ask and i’d be happy to elaborate :))
