I finished Legend of Korra a while ago and idk if anyone even ships these guys but listen….LISTEN… Prince Wu is such a boyfail and Mako is smartstupid and i kinda have a lot of love for them together okay? That’s all thank you.

Okay I can't stay silent about this any longer, not enough people talk about the comedic potential of Bolin and Wu's relationship.

Y'all are going to have to hear me out on this.

Let's start with the facts. Bolin used to work for a dictator that REALLY didn't like Wu, and the only (kinda) on screen interaction they had was Bolin insulting Wu.

Now granted in the comics they interact a little bit but it's always purely professional. So while we can infer that they tolerate each other that doesn't automatically mean that they're friends. We can't really be sure if they worked out their differences off screen either.

As for the comedic potential part well... think about it. Both Bolin and Wu have been shown to be kind of petty at times. And, I must reiterate, the first time they met Bolin was INSULTING both Wu AND Mako. To be fair, if Mako and Wu started dating I doubt that Wu, even if he was still a bit salty about that, would act rudely towards Bolin at all. But who's to say he wouldn't still be just a little bit grumpy about it.

Let's talk about Bolin. Now, PERSONALLY, I headcannon that Bolin is just a little protective over Mako. I know, I know, their whole thing in the show is Mako being the protective older brother and Bolin being babygirl BUT two things: One, by the time Mako and Wu get together they're definitely not teenagers anymore. And Two we DO see Bolin being a bit more protective in the comics (specifically "Turf Wars" and "The Mystery of Penquan Island") with this evidence I don't think it's much of a stretch to say that after all the bullshit that happened in the show, Bolin would be just a little, tiny bit more protective.

Anyways tangent over back to the main point. If one of my older brothers told me that he was dating someone that tried to use their political power to take him to another country against his will, even if that person learned to be better in the end, I'D STILL BE VERY CONCERNED. I don't think Bolin would be openly annoyed at Mako and Wu being together but he'd probably at least have some questions.

Bolin: Bro, do whatever makes you happy! But... him? Really?

Realistically they probably get over their differences pretty quickly and easily but... I just find the idea of them being petty for a while really funny. Especially if they act like that SPECIFICALLY when Mako's not watching. I cannot be the only one that sees the comedic potential for this.

And eventually they'd become friends and idk, frolic in fields or something? But before that let them be grumpy with each other, you know as a treat.

This probably didn't make sense to anyone but still thank you for reading my rant!

do you think ppl in the earth kingdom propose with rings or soemthing else

Hmmmm So I did a quick look at some earth kingdom couples, and as far as I can tell, they don't seem to wear wedding bands. So my gut says no?

Engagement and wedding rings are a pretty western tradition. I'm not familiar enough with other culture's traditions to start trying to apply real world proposals to the world of avatar. The only proposal traditions we see in the show are the Water Tribe betrothal necklaces, and Varrick proposing to Zhu Li with a ring... And I'm gonna say that while I understand why the writers did that (its a familiar custom to the audience, and Varrick and Zhu Li are sort of the epitome of modern Republic City which does have western influences...?) But idk I think it would have been interesting to introduce other proposal customs.

All that being said, I don't have an issue with it being in the show or in fanfic or hc or whatever!

In any case I don't really have any hard and fast headcanons about engagement or wedding or marriage traditions in Avatar... I wonder if any of you guys do! If you've got headcanons about proposals and weddings and symbols of marriage status, please share!
