Tony and Howard: U
Send me character(s) and a letter and I’ll write you a minified!
U: Coming Home
Maybe He Could Fix It
He was in New York when the call came through, startling him awake in the middle of the night. He’d landed that evening and had gone straight to one of his homes in order to try to get a few hours peace before the SHIELD operation being run out of their New York bunker the next morning commenced. They needed him there to guide the agents on the ground through how to use a sensitive piece of equipment that he’d designed specifically for this op. Their window for deployment was narrow, but the one that would allow him to train the agents on how to use the tech even smaller. Peggy had been adamant on making sure that he was there on time and that there were no delays. If he wasn’t there, the mission failed, and if they failed lives would be lost.
Even so, Howard had roused Jarvis immediately after he’d ended the call with Maria and they had hopped a flight. Amazing how quickly things could move when money wasn’t an object. Airports opened, jets were fueled, and an entire wing at a Boston hospital was closed off to keep reporters from running away with what they were sure to think was front page news.
But to the inventor walking through the empty hallways, it was a waking nightmare.
He’d been on the phone with the hospital for all the details, but nothing could fully prepare him for the sight of his only child lying still and quiet and so very small against the white sheets of the hospital bed. Machines whirled and beeped, pushing medication, fluids, and reading vitals. He was stable, the doctor assured him, though if his friend hadn’t called 9-1-1 when he did, things could have gotten a lot worse. A fifteen-year-old shouldn’t be drinking, much less in that quantity. They’d had to flush his system and he’d be asleep for a while longer, but Howard was welcome to sit with him.
Panic was the only way to describe the flood of emotion that washed over him, but Jarvis was already halfway out the door with the Rhodes boy by then, giving him a few private moments with his son. Rhodes shot him a look of pure judgment as he passed, as if he somehow thought that Tony’s bender was Howard’s fault.
But wasn’t it?
Howard hated that small voice that pulled on him. Hated it even more when it was right. He’d done everything he knew how to do to protect his boy. Education, resources, doors opened wide that he’d had to kick down on his own at that age. For every way his own father had shut him down as a child, Howard had tried to support Tony. They lived in a dangerous world. His time with the SSR and SHIELD had taught him that. So when his son had been born he’d thrown himself even deeper into the covert organization that he’d helped to found to work in the shadow so that the next generation- so that his own kid - could have a chance at the light.
But there he was. The best efforts meant nothing if Tony took Howard’s worst traits and ran with them. They meant nothing if Howard’s worst traits got him killed.
A mustache that had turned white somewhere along the way twitched as the lips below it angled down and Howard inched forward. He didn’t have to worry about waking the teen up, but he moved like he did. Slow and absolutely quiet until he eased himself down into the chair that James Rhodes has pulled up to the side of the bed. It squeaked, but Tony didn’t stir, and after a long moment Howard drew in an unsteady breath. “Scared your mother to death,” he whispered, even the hushed words feeling too loud. He winced and shifted, the chair giving another painful creak beneath him. They really needed to take care of that. Better yet. Throw the whole thing out. Not only was it too loud it was stiff and uncomfortable too.
Howard’s runaway thought process slammed to a stop. Was he really hyperfocusing on a hospital chair right then? Yes. Yes he was.
“And your mother’s better at this,” he confessed very softly. “She knows how to…. I don’t know what. She knows what needs to be said and she says it. Shows it too. I’ve never been good with honesty.” He reached forward on impulse, taking Tony’s limp hand before his brain had a chance to talk him out of it. He shut his eyes and forced the words out, feeling them claw at the backside of every wall he’d carefully constructed in the last sixty-eight years. “I never wanted this, but I don’t know how to fix it. I can fix just about anything but this and it’s the one thing….”
Thin fingers tightened in his grasp and Howard’s eyes popped open to find a pair so like his own staring back at him. Younger and very, very bleary, but open. “Dad?”
And just like that, the panic returned. He started to pull his hand away and put their customary distance between them, but Tony’s weak and scratchy voice stopped him.
“What’dya doing here?”
The older Stark stopped, fingers still touching Tony’s and he swallowed hard. “They still call your parents when you get carted off by an ambulance.”
Tony blinked at him, his expression confused and his eyelids heavy. “Huh?”
He wasn’t going to remember a word of this, Howard realized. He steeled himself slowly, working the corner of his lips into something that he hoped resemembed a smile, and tightened his hand around the teen’s again. “Nothing. Get some sleep.”
That’s all that was needed for those dark eyes to slip closed again and for Tony to relax against the pillows. His father didn’t dare move as he tightened his grip just a little more. “I’m sorry, Tony,” he whispered, the words more than he’d ever dared let slip before. Maybe that meant that when Tony came home, he could do better. Maybe he could still find a way to fix this.
----
Notes: Do you know how hard it was to get that man to open up even when Tony was completely out of it? So hard. Those Stark boys and their communication issues.... I swear. Kind of took some liberty with the prompt, but I hope you like it :D

TOP 10 NINTENDO SWITCH GAMES 2019 - my arbitrary list!
Sometimes it's good to be proven wrong. I was pretty sceptical when the Switch was first announced, as it didn't seem too different from the Wii U's gamepad. Then I spent two years watching Nintendo enjoy a complete reversal of fortune, to the point of potentially amassing a more compelling library than Sony's or Microsoft's consoles. So that's how I quite suddenly found myself buying a Switch in October 2019, after having resisted the PS4 and Xbone for five whole years, and my free time has since been dominated by this little machine that defied the odds.
Some of Nintendo's business decisions can still seem inexplicable, but releasing a powerful handheld console that can also be docked with a TV at a moment's notice has proved to be an inspired idea, rather than the gimmick the Wii U's gamepad mostly turned out to be. And along with Nintendo's dependable series of top-notch exclusives, the Switch has enjoyed much better third-party support, which is how I ended up buying Dark Souls for the fourth bloody time just because the option to play it portably was too tempting to resist.
The Switch is the first console I've bought since the PS3 and for all Nintendo's quirks, there's a reason the Switch has dominated Christmas wishlists for three years running. Games like Super Mario Odyssey feel like full-size adventures that just happen to have a portable option, as opposed to handheld games you can also play on the big screen. This is the first year in a long while that I've actually played enough topical titles to justify a "games of the year" list, even if my recent Nintendo bias is pretty blatant.
So with that caveat in mind, and in no particular order, here's my entirely subjective list of the best Nintendo Switch games of 2019.
Luigi's Mansion 3
This is a franchise I'd always been curious about and can finally have an opinion on. The process of going from floor to floor of the hotel hoovering up ghosts and solving puzzles is pretty straightforward, but Luigi's Mansion 3 has so much polish and personality crammed into the cartridge. Luigi is immediately lovable as a determined coward, and each level has a wildly different theme that's realised with extravagant audio and visual flair, so progress always feels rewarding. Though this isn't true horror by any means, there can be an unsettling atmosphere and some of the bosses are pretty freaky. I officially love this oddball franchise and am desperate for a chance to play the story again in co-op. Unquestionably a first-class exclusive.
Doom (Switch port)
Not to be confused with the impressive Switch version of Doom 2016, this is the iconic Doom made cheap and accessible. While purists may take issue with some minor technical deviations, this is the first time I've got most of the way through Doom because the portability and *glorious* true dual-stick control makes this easily my favourite version. There's even a cheat menu for when I just want to mindlessly punch hell beasts. The main thing that ages Doom is its maze-like structure, but playing it casually experience alleviates that frustration somewhat. At a grand total of four pounds, this is a BFB (big fucking bargain).
Untitled Goose Game
You know a game is good when the only asterisk I put on my recommendation is that it *may* be overpriced. Untitled Goose Game took the internet by storm this year because it's the quintessential indie game: cute, simple and with anti-authoritarian undertones. As a horrible goose, it's your mission to cause havoc in an unsuspecting English village, interacting with people and objects to cause chain reactions of chaos. Some of the puzzle solutions are maybe a bit obscure, but 90% of the time just messing around with everything in the area will lead to a solution. Untitled Goose Game makes up for its brevity with sheer comedic charm, feeling much better-designed than a "lul so random" affair like Goat Simulator. A honking good time.
Terraria (Switch port)
I have spent literally hundreds of hours on the PC version of Terraria, so when I was broke after buying my Switch the new Terraria port was an obvious cost-effective choice. While the controls aren't as precise, the amount of time spent mining and sorting through loot makes this a great handheld experience. I can't comment on the multiplayer options but few games represent such a sheer value for money, as there's always a new cave to explore or a new boss to overcome. Time has been kind to this 2011 classic, grind notwithstanding.
Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair
While I personally enjoyed the original Yooka-Laylee, it was definitely flawed and I never seriously expected to see a sequel. But Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair launched quite abruptly and did a pretty spectacular job of upstaging its predecessor. All the previous game's half-baked feel has been replaced with clever design touches, like the equippable tonics which grant helpful abilities at the cost of a currency penalty. The titular Lair is actually the final level and available to throw yourself at right from the beginning, but beating it without first obtaining more hitpoints by completing other stages is incredibly hard, which is a great way to incentivize progress without denying more confident players the option of beating the game earlier if they can meet the challenge. Impossible Lair might be this year's biggest surprise, and despite a modest budget I think it's worthy of comparison to excellent 2D platformers like Rayman Legends. Just don't expect to defeat Capital B on your first attempt.
A Hat In Time (Switch port)
I recently reviewed A Hat In Time but at the risk of repeating myself, it's one of the most charming games of the last few years and an incredibly impressive crowdfunded achievement. Mario's offerings may be a grander technical feat, but A Hat In Time is a fast and fabulous journey through a series of weird and wonderful worlds that all feel distinct in content and tone. It's very openly inspired by GameCube-era platformers like Mario Sunshine and Psychonauts and it easily scratches that itch. Simply one of the best original platformers of this generation, and I defy you not to love Hat Kid's cheeky antics.
Spyro Reignited Trilogy (Switch port)
As someone who thinks the original Spyro trilogy holds up better than most early 3D games, I'd have actually preferred a simple port rather than a full remake, but The Reignited Trilogy is honestly impeccable. The updated visuals are gorgeous while maintaining the general style of those old, jaggy models, and very little of the gameplay or content has changed except for sensible updates like the ability to immediately warp between every level you've visited. Having full dual-analogue control is also an absolute godsend even for a PS1 veteran like me. Though Spyro may seem a bit basic these days when faced with modern platformer marvels, the Reignited Trilogy makes these old favourites accessible again at a generous price point.
Ring Fit Adventure
Yes, I have a Wii kicking around in a box somewhere. No, Wii Fit never held my attention as anything more than a curiosity. Ring Fit Adventure, meanwhile, is limited only by my cholesterol-encrusted heart and dislike of excessive showering. This is an honest-to-goodness attempt at making an RPG out of a workout toy, and the amount of polish put into the game's presentation and hardware implementation is pretty remarkable. Levels involve jogging on the spot and squeezing the ring accessory to collect goodies and overcome obstacles, and periodically you'll engage in turn-based combat where you use a custom selection of exercise moves to deal damage. It's a fantastic idea pulled off much more elegantly than it sounds. The ring accessory unfortunately makes this quite an expensive game, so it'll take a lot of regular use to get your money's worth, but I can honestly (and surprisingly) say that exercise suddenly becomes more compelling when it's presented as a light RPG adventure with anthropomorphic gym equipment encouraging you to take breaks and drink plenty of water.
Pokémon Sword/Shield
Disclaimer: I can only give my impressions from 25 hours of playing Pokémon Shield, so this is DEFINITELY not a full review. That being said, this is still an easy recommendation to existing Pokemaniacs and a good starting point for any new acolytes. While the core formula hasn't evolved (har har) much since the very first Pokemon, Sword and Shield still has a number of modern quality of life improvements that make previous generations show their age. I've had so much fun building a core crew of cute and/or badass 'mons in a weird Nintendo version of Britain, and the online features combine with a VASTLY improved random encounter system to make grinding far less of a concern. The wild area takes some getting used to, but it's satisfying to come back and capture the huge Onyx you had to run away from a few hours before. Even if Pokémon Sword/Shield has some technical blemishes and could have pushed the series further in some regards, it's still easy to see why this franchise has maintained such a beloved status for so long.
Red Faction: Guerrilla Re-mars-tered (Switch port)
Along with Dark Souls, Red Faction was a game I never even knew I needed on the go, but now I've got it I can't imagine ever going back. A cult classic due to its amazing destruction physics, Red Faction sees you leading a proletariat revolution on Mars, literally tearing down corporate monuments to free the working class from systematic oppression. The open world is a bit claustrophobic and the shooting isn't exactly mind-blowing, but there's a reason I've beaten Red Faction every couple of years ever since its original 2009 release. The Switch port does the game justice and if you set the difficulty to easy then this is one of the best rage-venting experiences money can buy. So yes, I recommend getting your ass to Mars.

Red Blood Cell, Sighted! Chapter 1
https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13022702/1/Red-Blood-Cell-Sighted
Guys...I don’t know how to say this, but I think I made a reverse harem fic for Cells at Work/Hataraku Saibou. Partially based off @lunchtimerushin‘s beautiful fanart and my need for more neutrophil content.
U-2001 is too old for this.
If anyone were to ask him how the whole thing started, he would merely shrug, knock back a drink of barley tea, and sigh. He's not an old neutrophil, but he sure likes to stay away from the immature adventures his close colleagues like to embark on. Days for him, other than the occasional bacterium or a virus, pass by slowly while time seems to meander without much reason for worry. One would think that 2001 would have gone mad, or at the very least, bored without the lack of any activity.
That was simply not the case.
Most of the time.
"2001," U-1146 greeted casually. Like most neutrophils, 1146 was dressed in the standard uniform of a white blood cell, but he was covered head to toe in cytosol. The dark red shade contrasted starkly against the usual white color that it had 2001 recoiling in shock. Usually 1146 would have enough sense to clean himself up immediately after a mission before seeking out a friend.
2001 definitely was not expecting his colleague at all.
"1146," 2001 answered in kind. He raised a pale eyebrow, although it wasn't apparent due to his wearing of a hat. "What brings you to this marginating pool?"
Normally, 1146 would bring up a topic that could be easily answered, 2001 would offer some insight relative to the question, and they would sit in companionable silence. It was a habit that had originated back in their youth as myelocytes. Over the course of the maturation, they kept up with the tradition and it had benefited them both; for 2001, it offered a sense of companionship that he didn't always receive due to his aloof nature and as for 1146...well, 2001 hoped that his friend also received the same sense of security and friendship.
1146 seemed to frown under the visor of his hat before vaguely commenting on the state of affairs within the body.
2001, not sure how to take this unexpected turn of events, remarked that all systems within the body were doing well.
And, for a few minutes, that was that.
Until—
"The normal cells do a fine job of replicating copies of themselves," 1146 said casually. "I wonder what their lives must be like, to continuously make copies of themselves, train their copies their ways, and finally let them go. Wouldn't that make life seem so boring and fleeting?" 1146 paused before continuing. "But they also seem so close knit; they're always playing games with each other. It's admirable, honestly, given that they're usually the ones who are targeted under bacterial or viral infections."
1146 stopped. Clearly, it was the time for 2001 to say something—anything that could provide validation or add on to 1146's observation, but 2001 didn't know what to do with this information.
Normal cells? Replication? Having fun? What was his colleague insinuating?
Shrugging, 2001 murmured, "It's their job and their nature, regardless of how mundane or trivial it may seem. All cells serve purpose; you should know this. We protect and the others serve."
1146 hummed thoughtfully as he processed those words.
"And the red blood cells...carrying those packages of oxygen or carbon dioxide continuously with little to no breaks…"
Was it 2001, or was 1146 looking wistful?
"They're always running around, destination to destination with no end in sight. Do they ever truly stop? We white blood cells are permitted breaks here and there; bacterial invasions or infections are frequent, yes, but not to the point where we never stop."
"They're born to do that," 2001 shrugged as he relaxed against the vessel wall. "At the bone marrow, they're trained so that they could travel great distances without feeling tired." Really, what was 1146 getting at with this inane conversation? Truly, it was thought provoking to think about the occupations of other cells, but this was elementary. All myelocytes knew why certain progenitor cells differentiated to become monoblasts, erythroblasts, promegakaryocytes, and so on.
2001 happened to glance at 1146 at that moment.
His colleague appeared lost in thought; his eyes were furrowed and covered in shadow, his body was hunched over as he contemplated. His dead stare, which was typical of all neutrophils, seemed even more probing and blank than normal. Typical 1146 pose, atypical cause for it.
"Why are you so interested in the erythrocytes anyway?"
"Oh. I met one who kept getting lost recently. You probably saw her in that one abrasion incident."
"Hmm, yes. That incident was definitely scarring."
1146 stared deep into 2001's eyes and barked a short note of laughter. Gone was his look of contemplation; it was now replaced with his favorite companion of the neutrophil bunch.
Finally. A reaction that 2001 fully calculated and expected.
"Well, 1146, I think we should head back to work."
"Noted."
He was patrolling an area near the foot—probably the ankle if he remembered correctly—at a capillary. Here, the roads were thin and crowded with red blood cells busy delivering the oxygen to their designated recipients. As 2001 observed from a narrow passageway, he thought back to 1146's words from earlier.
From an objective standpoint, it made sense that immune cells were allowed to have breaks every once in a while. They expended incredible amounts of energy defeating bacteria; therefore, they needed time to regroup and refresh. On the other hand, red blood cells ran around all the time, but they were trained to endure. They could withstand resistance longer and were allowed to walk on their way back on the circuit back to the lungs. For practical reasons, it made sense; different jobs yielded different needs.
So deep in thought he was, that he was completely blindsided when he heard a sudden crash and several curses from a group of passing red blood cells. Even though this situation could have been handled by others, he casually strolled from his hiding spot to see if there was any trouble. It appeared that one red blood cell (one with brilliantly red hair befitting of her cell type) had mistakenly bumped into another red blood cell (this one not as ostentatiously colored or differentiated). The situation looked like the red blood cells could deal with affairs within their circle (the redhead was already apologizing and gathering up the boxes of oxygen) so 2001 merely shrugged and moved back.
For several minutes, 2001 contented himself with his thoughts while he passively observed the red blood cells and a few platelets walking or running to their destinations. One of those who were running was a red blood cell (the very same who was the inciting incident for that accidental crash) who walked past him. Nothing interesting.
Well that in itself wasn't interesting until he saw that the clumsy red blood cell had walked past him again.
And again.
And...again.
After seeing that the red haired erythrocyte had passed by his hiding spot twenty-two times in a span of fifteen minutes, 2001 decided to step in.
Literally.
On the twenty third attempt, the erythrocyte had neglected to tighten her shoelaces. The result was, and this should have been obvious, was halfway disheartening to any aspiring red blood cell.
The scene was halfway disheartening because 2001 didn't want any cells under his watch to end up getting hurt—even if it was her own undoing.
Due to his quick reflexes and ideal spot, 2001 managed to grab her by the back of her shoulders and righted her up in record timing. For a moment, her eyes were dazed and confused; her mouth gaped open in a shrill scream that had 2001 wincing because of the pitch and frequency. Heavens above, such a sound at such punishing decibels shouldn't have been possible. However, she quickly turned to him and began apologizing—all of which he managed to deflect with the proper "oh's" and "mm-hhms".
"—orry, Mr. Neutrophil! I didn't—I mean, I'm kind of clumsy and I'm still trying to learn all my routes and—"
2001 held up a hand, which immediately quieted the red blood cell.
"Turn left on the main road and go straight for 100 micrometers. There, you'll see a checkpoint that has a reliable map and plenty of red blood cells who could help you." After observing the package of carbon dioxide that the red blood cell was carrying in her arms, he immediately deduced that her next destination was for the lungs.
Gobsmacked, the erythrocyte looked from the main road to 2001 and back. Was she dreaming? Was another neutrophil helping her out? Were all immune cells this nice?
Gratefully, she bowed again and thanked him graciously. However, when there was no reply, she found that he was no longer there. A little confused, but still overly grateful, she saluted the deserted area and headed off the main road. For now, she was content that she was back on track.
She hoped that she would find that kind, aloof neutrophil again in the future.
U-2001 couldn't help but...soften at the sight of the red blood cell saluting and then leaving with a smile so bright, that it could rival that of Dendritic Cell's. It wasn't every day that 2001 managed to see such a happy smiling cell in person. It was rare that cells would approach him, rarer still to see one so willing to thank him for such a trivial action.
Was it a habit of red blood cells to be so emotional and helpful?
Or was it just a trait of this particular red blood cell?
Briefly entertained with this thought, 2001 idled away until he heard his transceiver inform him that help was needed elsewhere.
This time, it was 2001 who approached his friend 1146 in a marginating pool. After the usual greeting and pleasantries, they lapsed back into silence. Again, the atmosphere felt safe and companionable; a far cry from the heat of battle and the call of bloodlust. It was soothing and for once, 2001 relaxed and let his back touch the wall of the blood vessel, fully at ease and a micrometer away from taking a nap, germs be damned.
"Something good happened today," 1146 commented as he watched his colleague sag against the wall in uncharacteristic tiredness.
Not a question; it was an observation.
"Depends on perspective."
"Then let me rephrase, from your perspective, did something good happen?"
2001 could have said anything. He could have said that he had a quiet time patrolling the foot. He could have said that he spent his entire patrol philosophizing and that he came across some great discovery before it disappeared like plasma. He could have said that his day was relatively peaceful other than that allergen that happened to run amok. If this were any other day, he would have said any of the above, but for some odd reason, images of a sweet smiling red blood cell who looked so earnest and trusting made him want to-to—
"I stopped a red blood cell from tripping." 2001 stared resolutely forward—no, he wasn't avoiding his companion's eyes. "It was all in a good day's work, I suppose."
Even without looking at his right, 2001 knew that 1146 was staring disbelievingly at him. Looking back, 2001 knew that this was a weak way to explain the feelings that were circulating throughout his nucleus. But really, what could he say? It wasn't a particularly big achievement or anything worth remembering. Heck, the only reason he remembered the event was because it was jarring to be thanked so honestly and with such vigor.
"It's our job to help all cells, regardless of circumstances." 2001 tried to justify. " If it was a platelet, you would do the same. It's our job."
1146 hummed in assent.
2001 could hear an underlying current of sarcasm, but he didn't mind. After all, he technically wasn't lying.
After a while, they said their goodbyes and left the marginating pool together before going their separate ways. Like any other meeting with his fellow white blood cell, 2001 was left with a sense of...not exactly loneliness, but an awareness that once again, he was alone with only his thoughts to keep him company.
On most days he was quite all right with that.
Today...today, he felt too old, too tired to be alone.

OK!!!! here it is! So, fair warning, this story will be done in episodes. so each fic will be posted as one episode with chapters and its gunna be a long trek, but i like it that way lol
also sorry for any spelling or grammer mistakes, i tried to get them all but i may have missed some... oops! and if you like it let me know if you want to be tagged in the future! ok... here we go...
Chapter 1:
“Graduation tomorrow, Bones, can you believe it!?” Jim smacked his friend in the chest as they strolled through the Academy halls, “And after summer we have six months of placement, the only thing currently standing between me and a ship. Once placement is finished then it’s space, space, nothing but space, sitting in my captains chair.”
Bones groaned beside him, the thought of being in space still haunting him all these years later, “Space is disease and danger, wrapped in darkness and silence. We’ll be lucky if we don’t end up with Microbian Stephis, see if you're still bouncing around when you're bleeding from every organ you’ve got. And let’s hope we don’t come across Glorian Pink Eye, cuz I don’t wanna hear you complaining when you can’t see through you're swollen, puss filled eye balls.”
Jim laughed, turning to look at the scowling man beside him. “Bones, why did you even signup for Starfleet?”
“I told you, the ex-wife took everything in the divorce, all I’ve got left-”
“Is your bones,” he finished for him with a smirk and a nod, “I know, Bones.”
Bones stopped walking, Jim turning to face him, “Well,” Bones said, crossing his arms, a hint of mockery in his voice, “if you’d listened that well in your Earth History class then maybe you would have passed with a better grade.”
“Earth history is boring.” And it was true, even Bones had to admit he hated that class just as much as Jim did. As a peace keeping planet, not too much happened on Earth.
“I know it was boring, but…” he sighed, wondering if he should even bring it up, “Jim, you're Pa is a major part of Earth’s history.”
He regretted bringing up the topic immediately as he watched as Jim’s bright, hopeful, ready to take on the universe attitude did a complete u-turn right before his eyes.
“I know,” he replied, suddenly finding something on the floor fascinating, before whispering, “I just wish he could have been part of mine.”
Bones was about to reach out, tell Jim he shouldn’t be upset but instead should be proud of his Pa, because if it wasn’t for him, Jim and so many others wouldn’t be alive today. But right before his arm made contact with Jim, his friend was shoved violently into him from behind, Bones catching him just before he hit the floor.
He peered around Jim to see who had been able to shove him so hard to knock him almost clean off his feet, and was surprised to see a dirty blonde pony tail standing behind him.
He pushed Jim off of him and continued to stare at this girl, unable to even comprehend the English language let alone speak it. He couldn’t see much of her face, for it was shoved nose deep in a PADD, but he could tell she was the most beautiful thing this side of the whole damn planet but… what should he say?! He had been married once before so he should know what to do by now… shouldn’t he?!
Before he could manage to compose himself she began walking past them, not seeming to be the slightest bit bothered by what had just occurred. While all Bones could do was just stand there wide eyed while the cat had his tongue, Jim decided he was going to give her a piece of his mind.
“Hey!” he shouted, “Maybe you should get your nose out of that PADD and actually pay attention to where you're going! Damn near killed me!”
The girl turned, shifting her eyes away from her PADD and to Jim for a mere fraction of a second, before turning back.
When she looked at him, Jim became as stoic as Bones, there was something about this girl… but it couldn’t be, “It can’t be her,” he whispered, more to himself then Bones, “Not after all this time, it…” he shook his head, fighting the back and forth in his mind, then decided to just go for it. He suddenly bolted, sprinting across the hallway leaving Bones behind. He raised a hand in the air as he ran towards her shouting, “Rielle!”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Rielle, could you please assist me later on this evening in completing a laboratory experiment on the chemical attributes of the flora the U.S.S Hudson retrieved on their mission to Reverion last week?”
The dirty blonde turned slowly in her chair as her fingers slid gracefully over the PADD she had been stuck to for nearly three days now. Without removing her eyes from the screen she answered, “Of course, Spock, when and where?”
“Laboratory B, at 1800 hours would be excellent.”
“Sounds good,” though Spock wondered if she was actually listening to him.
Before he could voice his concerns that she would leave him standing in the labs alone tonight, her comm went off.
“Lieutenant Rielle,” she answered, still not removing her eyes from the object before her.
“Rielle, it’s Pike. Meet me in my office in ten, we have some last minute details we need to go over before tomorrows graduation.”
“Roger that!” Spock shook his head at her lack of restraint. Had she have been anyone else, the captain would have had her head for forgetting to add “sir” to the end of that reply.
She placed the comm in it’s holder on her belt and stood making way for the door. “Spock,” she turned, “I don’t know how long this meeting with Pike will take, but knowing that man, probably forever. Is there any way we could do the experiment tomorrow? Same time, same place?”
“I see no harm in waiting one more day, Lieutenant.”
“Thanks, Spock.” And with that she was gone and practically running through the halls, which she would soon come to regret.
She was almost there, mere meters away from Pikes office, when some bozo decided it was a good idea to stop in the middle of the hallway. Right smack dab in her way. Now, it was partly her fault since she couldn’t tear herself away from the article on transwarp beaming she had been reading for three days, Montgomery Scott was a fine engineer indeed, but she would never admit to anyone that she was to blame for colliding with the idiot in front of her.
She decided now was not the time to get in a heated argument with the blond she almost knocked to the ground, hoping maybe that would be enough to perhaps knock some sense into him, and carried on past him. Apparently not.
“Hey!” he shouted, “Maybe you should get your nose out of that PADD and actually pay attention to where you're going! Damn near killed me!”
It took just about every inch of self control she had to not turn back and punch that mouthy son of a bitch in the face, but somehow she managed it. She turned, throwing a wave in his direction and making slight eye contact, and instantly wished she hadn’t.
As soon as her eyes made contact with those baby blues, she knew. No one else in the entire galaxy could ever match that shade of blue, no one, and her suspicions where right when he called her name.
“Rielle!”
“Oh god, no…” she didn’t want to turn back, didn’t want this confrontation now, or ever again to be honest. Maybe if she just kept walking there was a chance he wouldn’t get to her before she could get to Pike’s office. Today, it seemed, was not her lucky day.
Steps away from the door the boy grabbed her arm, stopping her just before she opened it.
“Rielle!” she dropped her PADD to the floor hearing his voice, “Rielle… don’t you remember me? It’s Jim-”
He was stopped short by a sharp slap to the cheek as she turned to finally face him.
“Oh, I remember you Jim Kirk!” her face red with rage.
He let her arm go, pulling back a step to place a hand on his now burning cheek, “Still as fiery as ever, I see.”
“Screw you Jim! How dare you come up to me after all these years and act as if nothing happened! Did you think I would just forgive you? Did you think you could just walk up to me, strike up a conversation, and we could just step right back into where things left off?!” she paused to cross her arms, “you do remember how things left off, don’t you?”
“Rielle, I-”
She put a hand up, stopping him again, “Save it, Jim, I’ve got a meeting with Captain Pike, and now you’ve made me late.”
With that she opened the door and quickly closed it behind her.
Bones, finally remembering that English was his native language, came to stand beside a still dumbfounded Jim. “What the hell was that all about? Why’d she hit you?”
“Because,” he replied mindlessly as he reached down to grab the PADD she had dropped at his feet, “I’m a huge idiot.”
“Yeah,” Bones sighed, “what else is new?”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Chris Pike looked up from his desk as his office door flew opened and quickly slammed shut. He was even more surprised by the fact that the blonde who rushed in also locked the door behind her. Unusual.
Without sparing her a second glance, he returned to his work and muttered mindlessly, “Everything alright, Rielle?”
“No!” she practically screamed, “I just bumped into Jim Kirk.”
“Jim Kirk?!” Chris abandoned his work, pushing it aside, “The Jim Kirk?! He's here?!”
“Yes, the Jim Kirk.” She peeled herself from her previous place leaning on the door and made her way to the chair in front of Chris’s desk, planting herself there. She put both feet on the desk in front of her, crossing her arms across her chest. “How did you not know he was at the Academy?”
“There are so many students here, I barely know any of them, and I rarely teach.” He raised a brow at her as she slouched further in her chair, attempting to read her as he then asked, “And how do you feel about Jim being at the Academy?”
“Angry,” she shook her head as she continued, “furious, upset, used, left behind, appalled, and did I mention angry? God, I'm so mad at him!”
Chris sighed, he knew everything there was to know about the history between Jim Kirk and Rielle. He knew there was so much to their past that meant the world to her, but what Jim did, he was never sure she could forgive though he had hoped she would should this day ever come. But if there was one thing in the universe that Chris Pike was absolutely sure on, it was just how stubborn he knew Rielle could be.
He pushed out from his desk and moved to sit on the corner beside her feet. He let out a small chuckled at her scornful expression before asking, “Well, did you tell him that?”
“Are you kidding me?!” she exclaimed, eyes wide, “After what he did, I think it’s quite clear he doesn’t care at all! About me, or anyone other then himself. Not to mention the fact that when I bumped into him and he finally realized it was me, he walked up to me as if nothing even happened. Does he think that I’m just going to forgive him and move on, just like that?!”
Yep, just as stubborn as always. “Rielle, I'm going to give you my honest opinion here, and I want you to listen to everything I have to say.” She nodded, urging him to continue, “Jim Kirk is, and always has been, your world. Maybe he was right to act as if nothing happened, maybe you two should just move forwards instead of looking backwards.”
Rielle scrunched her brows and sat forwards ready to argue but was cut off by Chris's hand.
“Wait,” he stopped her, “listen to every word. Instead of brushing Jim off why don’t you see what he has to say? Maybe he has a good reason for what he did.”
“A good reason?!” that’ll be the day, she thought, “What good reason could he have for abandoning me?!”
“You’ll never know the truth unless you ask,” he shrugged.
“Well…” she sat back in the chair, staring straight, “what does one even say in a situation like this?”
“Hi,” he said simply, “nice to see you, I missed you, can we talk?”
“I don’t know,” she brought a hand up to her head resting it on her temple, “I don’t know if I even want to know what insane, hair brained excuse that giant idiot can come up with.”
“Look,” he began, a stern look in his eyes, one she had seen many times, “I saw what he did to you, how badly he hurt you, and how it affected you even years after. The least he can give you is an explanation.”
“Yeah, I guess you're right.”
“Good,” he gave her shoulder a light tap before returning to his chair behind the desk, “now, we still have a lot to do before graduation tomorrow and I am panicking!”
She chuckled as she found comfort in the thought that some things never change. Sit Chris Pike in the captains chair and throw him into battle, and you'll witness the most well put together man the universe has ever seen, cool, collected, and confident. But ask him to do the simple task of organizing this year’s graduation and a chicken with its head cut off would look more organized then Chris.
She reached out and took a small stack of papers from Chris, getting right to work.

“Good god, man!”
Jim and Bones were sat across from each other in the cafeteria. Jim telling Bones all about the blonde from the hallway, while a stunned Bones listened with a mouthful of spaghetti hovering halfway between his mouth and his plate.
“I can’t believe you did that?! I mean, I knew you didn’t have a heart, but come on!” He placed the fork on the plate, giving up on his food altogether, “I don’t think even a Klingon is that cold blooded, Jim.”
“Come on, Bones,” Jim slouched deeper in his chair, “I already feel awful about it, don’t make me feel worse.”
“Well you should,” he nodded at him, “pretty girl like that, you should feel worse then my Uncle Charlie after Thanksgiving dinner. And let me tell you, six helpings of turkey dinner washed down with an entire bottle of whiskey ain’t a pretty sight.”
Usually Jim found amusement in his friends’ metaphors, but not today. Today he sat across from Bones, his appetite completely vanished, and his usual Kirk charm nowhere to be found. All of his thoughts were on Rielle.
Bones took the last bit of food off his fork and noticed that Jim’s plate remained unusually full, the kid had a black hole for a stomach he was sure, but instead he stared blankly at the table. “If it’s bothering you that much, would it kill you to try again?”
“No,” he slowly looked up to Bones, “but she might.”
He waved a hand at him, “I think you're over exaggerating, Jim, she looks harmless.”
“Looks can be deceiving, Bones.”
“Look,” he began, stern faced, “I say tomorrow, after the ceremony, you find her and apologize.”
Jim shook his head, “You don’t know her like I do. She won’t forgive me, I wouldn’t forgive me.”
“You might be surprised, Jim,” he took up his tray and turned away from the table before shouting back, “I'm sorry goes a long way”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jim and bones filed into the stadium with the rest of the graduating cadets. It was decorated in star fleet colours, complete with chair covers, banners, even balloons. Jim was impressed, so was Bones.
He let out a whistle as they entered the stadium, “You wouldn’t think it but the professors sure do know how to put on a good spread,” he nudged Jim as they went to find their assigned seats.
“Yeah,” he said as they came up on row 12E for Bones and 13G for Jim, turns out Jim's seat was right behind Bones, “I just hope the foods good.”
“You not gunna ask your pretty friend to dinner after the ceremony?” Bones tried to make it sound like a tease but Jim knew it was a serious question.
“She might not even be here.” Jim thought back to his years at the academy. He had taken the mandatory courses but also chose to take on almost five times that of a normal course load as extra electives, and he had never seen Rielle in any of them. In fact, aside from yesterday in the halls, he had never seen her in the Academy, period. “She might not even be graduating. I don’t know what year she's in, or if she graduated already. I mean, before everything went down between us, she was talking about enlisting, so there’s a chance she's way ahead of us.”
Before Bones could give his two cents the lights dimmed and the stage before them lit up as their professors, captains, and admirals lined the stage before sitting on the chairs placed there for them.
Bones turned back to Jim tapping his leg, and Jim leaned forwards, “Front row, second from the podium. There’s your pretty blonde.”
Jim gaped, wide eyed at the stage, “She's a teacher?!”
A man, who Jim recognized as Admiral Markus, came to the podium silencing the crowd before him, but Jim remained hunched forwards close to Bones as Markus spoke. “Welcome, everyone! Today we gather to celebrate the great minds of these wonderful people sitting here before us. Our future.” He gestured to the cadets below and the crowd gave a short cheer, “But I'm not going to take all the credit for this brilliant ceremony, and instead I will hand you over to Captain Pike, one of our most esteemed members of Starfleet. He singlehandedly organized this entire ceremony for you, so cadets, make sure you give Captain Pike your thanks on your way out. Over to you, Captain.”
Jim paled for the second time that night. He thought bumping into Rielle was bad enough, but this was worse. “Bones!” he whispered harshly while smacking his shoulder, “Bones!”
“What?!”
“I know him too!” he pointed to the man now standing at the podium.
“Seriously?! You think you know a guy,” he shook his head, “What did you do to him?”
“No, it’s not like that, he's-”
Jim was cut short in his explanation as Captain Pike began his speech, “Thank you, Admiral Markus. But, this is not about me, this night is about you. Your hard work and dedication has gotten you this far and let me tell you, it does not end here my friends. In fact, this is just the beginning. Now, I’ve had the pleasure of teaching some of you, and I use the word pleasure lightly here, looking at you Kurt Mccullen.” A small hoot was heard from somewhere to Jim’s right and the stadium erupted in a rumble of laughter. Jim shot his attention to the chair second to the left and watched as Rielle let a small smile escape. That smile, Jim thought, I missed it. “But honestly, in all my years as a teacher and captain, I have never known a better group of cadets. I am confident when I say that I know you were all meant for great things, and we all expect it of you. So, with that I will say congratulations on making it through and let’s kick this ceremony into full gear. If I could have row 1 please join me for your degrees.”
It took what felt to Jim like a lifetime before Captain Pike called row 13 to the front, but it finally happened. Bones passed him on his way back to his seat, giving him a “good luck” bump on his arm, and then it was Jim’s turn. He stood a few feet away from the stage, waiting for his name to be called, butterflies doing flips in hi stomach. He couldn’t even look up as Captain Pike began to speak.
“And now, I call upon a cadet who…” Pike paused, turning to look back at Rielle for a brief moment before continuing, “Who I have known for a long time. Someone I, unfortunately, did not have the pleasure of teaching during his time here at the Academy, though someone who I am sure exceeded the expectations of his teachers, and will continue to do so as he ventures forth on whatever path he should choose. Cadet James T. Kirk, come on up and get your degree, son.”
Jim took the four small steps up to the podium and stood before Captain Pike. He looks Jim dead in the eyes, and for a moment Jim wasn’t sure what he would say, but what he did say left Jim a bit shocked, “Well son, despite everything, congratulations.” He took Jim’s hand, holding it between them, “I'm sorry I didn’t know you were enlisted in the Academy or I would have tried to contact you sooner, I…”
Pike noticed as Jim glanced at Rielle from the corner of his eye. She was standing with the other Academy Officials, trying very hard not to make any eye contact with him. Pike gave Jim’s hand one final squeeze before finally handing him his degree and saying with a pat to his shoulder, “Go on son,” and nodding in her direction.
Jim couldn’t even speak, he didn’t know what to say. All he could do was nod and slowly make his way over to Rielle. He was standing in front of her, trying to think of what he could possibly come up with that wouldn’t make her hate him even more then she already does, when just as she was about to look up, a hand took her shoulder turning her away from Jim.
He jumped out of his trace and looked to see some bowl cut, pointy eared guy behind her, now holding all of her attention. He shook his head, deciding that maybe right here on stage wasn’t the place to be harshly rejected in front of his entire graduating class, and made his way back to his seat behind Bones.
He plopped himself down hard with a huff as Bones leaned back to ask, “Didn’t go well, did it?”
“No!” Just my luck, he thought, “Who is that pointy eared bastard, anyways?”
“Alright,” Pike began again before Bones could answer, “now that everyone has received their degrees and awards, there is one more item on the agenda that needs to be tended to. So, without further adieu, I would like to invite someone very special to the stage to present our last but perhaps our most prestigious award. I would like to invite Starfleet's very own head researcher, data analyst, science officer, engineer specialist, and all round go to girl, Rielle.”
“Wow!” Bones nodded as he watched her walk across the stage replacing Pike, “Pretty and smart.”
“I… I never knew she had accomplished so much.”
Bones turned in his seat to face Jim completely. He leaned an arm on the back of his seat and sighed, “Well, Jim, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but, it's kind of your own fault that you don’t know anything about her anymore.”
As Bones turned his attention back to the stage Jim couldn’t help but feel he was right. It was all his fault.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rielle stood, hands clasped in front of her, watching from the corner of her eye as Pike gave Jim his degree. All she wanted was for him to walk past her without so much as a second glance and take his seat in the sea of cadets. Then she saw his feet move, towards her instead of the stairs to her right. Panic swelled in her chest, her breathing escalated, and when his feet stopped moving right in front of her she thought she would pass out right there on stage. Rielle was a strong girl, there was hardly a conflict she couldn’t handle, but Jim Kirk was the one exception.
She thought maybe it would be best to just get this over with. To give him what he wanted and talk to him, maybe then he would go away. Surely the interest he currently holds in trying to talk to her would soon fade and she could go back to pretending he no longer existed.
With a sigh she swallowed her pride and slowly began lifting her head to meet his eyes, when a god send grabbed her shoulder turning her completely away from Jim and she could not have been happier.
Her head snapped up to find Spock, hand still on her shoulder as she whispered, “Is he still there?!”
“He has returned to his seat.”
“Thank god,” she clutched her chest, bending over slightly, “that was not something I wanted to deal with right now.”
Spock moved his eyes along the crowd, finding Jim almost directly in the center of the stadium, “That is him, correct? The man you told me of before?”
She nodded, “yeah, that’s him.” She brought a hand up to ruffle the hair in her pony tail, “I thought he was gone Spock, I thought… I thought I would never see him again. Here I am only now getting over him, ten years later, and he shows up just to blow my emotions back into hyperdrive.”
“Perhaps,” he shifted his weight slightly and tilted his head to whisper only to her, “I should take on the form of human culture and offer my services should you need someone to, as you say, “give him a good beating””
She couldn’t help the laugh that escaped her lips. Rielle had known Spock for a long time now and was used to Spock being all Vulcan all the time, but whenever he let a little bit of human slip through the cracks of his hard Vulcan exterior, it made even the worst of days seem a little brighter.
“I would like to invite Starfleet's very own head researcher, data analyst, science officer, engineer specialist, and all round go to girl, Rielle.” She tuned in just in time to catch the end of Pikes speech and turned her head to the podium. Pike was gesturing her over to take his place.
“Well, that’s my cue,” she flashed the Vulcan a small smile and a wink before she left, “thanks Spock.”
With a salute she replaced pike at the podium and faced the crowd. The stadium was completely full, not an empty seat to be found. Did it scare her, to be in front of all those people giving a speech? No, not one bit, she lived for this. She just hoped that she could keep her wandering eyes at bay, should she dare to spy Jim in the crowd.
With one single breath, she placed her hands on the podium and began, cool, collected, and confident, “Thank-you, Captain Pike, and hello cadets, congratulations to you all. I am here to award a very special cadet with one of the Academy’s most distinguished awards.
When I graduated the academy eight years ago, I was honoured to receive thirteen awards in various subjects ranging from linguistics, to engineering, nuclear biology, xenoethics and culture, captaincy, ambassadorial introduction, and many others. I received the highest marks in the courses and received high praises from teachers and guests to our Academy on my high level of understanding in all areas of study. And that is what this award is all about. This award will be given to the cadet whom the staff have widely recognized as an all round achieving student, but instead of handing out thirteen awards, we have decided to join them together into one."
Now, I do not know the name of the recipient of this award, only Admiral Markus holds that knowledge, but I have been told that this cadet is someone that everyone should aspire to be, should look up to. I am told that they excelled in all areas of study and continue, even now, to seek out new opportunities to further their knowledge and understanding of everything we stand for here at Starfleet. This cadet leaves here tonight with offers from not only Starfleet, but from outlying planets such as Ateron, Vulmencia, Draxus 9, and even Niam. They have received offers from various science academies, ambassadors, and have been hand picked by several captains here at Starfleet who would like to offer them a place on their ships. These include the U.S.S Galdor, Victoir, Gazine, as well as the Enterprise captained by Captain Pike, whose offer was submitted last night. This cadet clearly has a great future ahead of them, one that they deserve, and any of these offers would be a great path to follow. Though, I might suggest the Enterprise, it is after all the ship I will be serving on come summer and I would love to work with and get to know this amazing cadet. Now, I think we have left this cadet in enough suspense so Admiral Markus,” she turned then, one hand outstretched towards the man in question, “may I ask for the envelope now, please?”
With a smile he stood, reaching a hand inside his jacket, and retrieving a small palm sized envelope handing it to Rielle.
“Thank-you, Sir,” she turned back to the crowd holding the envelope up slightly, “Inside this envelope holds the name of the very remarkable cadet I have had the absolute honour of speaking about tonight. I encourage you all, as fellow cadets, friends, and possibly future coworkers, to congratulate this cadet in their hard work and dedication that got them to where they are today. And so, the recipient of this years Starfleet Achievement award is…” she broke the seal of the envelope and slowly pulled the paper out. She could hear the anticipation in the air, the hope and desperation. She turned the small piece of paper over to reveal the name and instantly felt all the blood drain from her body, “James T. Kirk,” she whispered to herself. Well if someone was trying to make her day go from bad to worse, they did it.
Realizing that all eyes were still on her she moved closer to the mic, regaining her cool, collected, and confident attitude that she normally held, and spoke, “The recipient is James T. Kirk.”
The crowd erupted into cheers and her head turned to her right as she saw Jim stand and begin making his way towards the stairs. Once he had made his way to stand before her, she steadied her breath and looked him dead in the eyes as she said without waiver, “James Tiberius Kirk, I am honoured to award you with the Starfleet Achievement award.”
He flashed her that James T. Kirk smile, the one that always used to bring her to her knees, and damn if she wasn’t feeling that now. After he took the award from her he held out his hand waiting for her to take it. Truthfully, she didn’t want to, but she knew what it felt like to be embarrassed in front of so many people. Reluctantly she took his hand, and the second she made contact with Jim she never wanted to let go again. It was like everything came rushing back and she realized just how much she truly missed him. Missed his smile, his charm, his whit. She missed scary movies in the dark, star gazing on the roof, staying up all hours of the night just to talk about nothing. She actually missed James T. Kirk.
Before she could collect her thoughts and say anything else the crowd of cadets stood and suddenly they were standing under a cascade of graduation caps. She removed her hand from where it was still connected with Jim’s and took her chance to escape through the sea of people now making their way to the stage. Jim tried to grab her before she could but lost her faster then he could blink an eye. Bones found him then, and informed him that there was food being served in the main hall if he cared to join, to which Jim turned down. Normally, bones would insist on a physical after personally witnessing Jim turn down food twice in less then twenty-four hours, but he knew why. He knew the rejection from the blonde was hitting Jim in a way that bones didn’t quite understand yet, and he knew Jim just needed time.
With a clasp on the back bones left and Jim stayed in the stadium, sitting on the edge of the stage watching as the crowd got smaller and smaller, until finally it was just him.
Footsteps made their way towards Jim, slowly and cautiously. The clearing of a throat bought Jim out of his slump long enough to look up to the owner of the feet in front of him.
“Rielle!”
She shifted nervously, not quite knowing what to say, then decided to follow some wise advice, “Hi,” she said quietly, almost so Jim couldn’t hear, “nice to see you, I missed you, can… can we talk?”
“Yeah,” he said, a bit shocked, “yeah of course.”
“Good,” she nodded, “coffee on Dunstan Street?”
Jim stood, a little too quickly almost sending himself flying off the stage. He wasn’t sure what this was, whether she was still angry, hurt, he didn’t know, but he did hope that this was a sign she was possibly willing to let it go and move forwards. Either way, he was willing to give it everything he had if it meant a small possibility of having her back in his life.
He held an arm out, leading her towards the exit, and she allowed him to without struggle. Halfway across the stadium she tilted her head up to Jim, “oh! And you're definitely buying.”
He stopped, staring at her with mock anger before bursting out laughing. Some things never change.

A/N: This is part 2 out of 3, the last one will probably be up some time next week. Enjoy! xoxo
Part 1 - Part 3
“Y’know, I wonder”, Peter said in a singing voice, skipping down the sidewalk next to a way more serious Jean. “I wonder, why they picked us.”
“Probably, because they know, how much we care about Charles.” “And you do care a lot for him, don’t you?”, Peter teased and shoved his elbow into her side. Jean blushed slightly. “Don’t be absurd, you know that I’m with Scott, you jerk!” “Oh, this isn’t about Scott or no Scott, I don’t know a single person, who doesn’t have a crush on the professor. And I’m not even gay! Or am I?”, he laughed out loud.
“Yeah, sure. So, about the plan.”, Jean interrupted. “We need to find y/n. Raven said, if not on campus, she’d probably be at the library, but I think know that we can get in without any kind of identification. I don’t know, how thrilled they would be, if we showed them two IDs from the future.”
“See, that’s why you have me!”, Peter cheered. “I’ll be in and back out before anyone notices anything. Damn, good thing y/n is a mutant as well, or else she would be in for the shock of a lifetime.” He didn’t sound concerned at all.
In front of an impressively huge stone building, complete with pillars and ornaments, they came to a halt. “Wow! I didn’t even know that was here. Does that exist in the future as well?” Jean shot him a glance from the side. “Maybe you should slow down once in awhile to appreciate things like architecture. It’s all about general knowledge.” “Yeah, but what do I need that for, if I can just look anything up in a split second? It’s not like anyone would ever know!”
“You’re really fidgety today.”, Jean commented. “Yeah I had a coffee.” An expectant silence formed between them, before she added: “So, are you gonna get her?” “Oh, yeah.” And with that, Peter disappeared, only to return moments later and, much to Jean’s dismay, empty-handedly.
“She wasn’t there.” He sounded slightly disappointed. “Are you sure?” “Yes, I’m sure, I checked every room twice. What’d you think, took me so long, huh?” “O-kay. So now what?”
“In hindsight, it probably would have been a good idea for Raven to just give us her address. I mean, we don’t really have the time to search every building in the city, not even you could do that.” “Try me.”, Peter grinned. The sun was going down already, Jean realized nervously, which meant that they only had about a day left, until Sammy would get them back. “Well, given our current success rate, we might actually not have a choice.” “Oh, come on, we’ve only tried the library, the college and two cafés.”
“Whatever. Let’s get some food.”, Jean murmured. It’s not like she had expected this to be easy, mainly because she had never time-travelled before, but also because the professor was usually the one organizing any kind of mission. They probably would have found you by now, if the professor had been involved, Jean thought. She couldn’t help but smile, as Peter opened the diner door for her, greeting her with an exaggerated bow.
There was only one free table and Jean accepted it thankfully. Only seconds later, a waitress appeared, offering them breadsticks and the menu. “So, where else could we look? There are some other cafés and restaurants.”, she started listing her suggestions and trying to pull Peter’s attention away from the menu, only to once again lose it to something seemingly very interesting behind her back. “Peter!”, she hissed, immediately regretting it. She tended to get a little curt when hungry and tired. But Peter simply shot her a meaningful grin before placing his eyes back on the object of his attention.
“I don’t think, we’ll have any difficulties finding her.”, he stated in a tone that seemed almost dreamy, just as Jean turned around and met the eyes of a truly incredible figure at the table by one of the windows. Shimmering, almost glowing white hair ran down your back like a waterfall, your skin just as indefinably beautiful as your whole form. Even sitting down, your figure emitted a most fundamental kind of elegance, as if your body was constantly being touched by the lightest of breezes.
It had to be you, Jean thought. There was no way that Raven couldn’t have been talking about that girl by the window. You were unmistakably beautiful in the strangest, but also most obvious way that Jean had ever seen.
“Wow.”, Peter murmured and Jean couldn’t help but nod. So you were the person Charles still couldn’t forget, even after almost 25 years of being apart. Subconsciously, Jean stretched out her mind, touching yours, trying to… she didn’t even know why. To see, if your mind was just as extraordinary as everything else about you, maybe.
Charles, please! I asked you not to get into my head., a gentle hum wavered through Jean’s mind and she immediately retreated. Only now she noticed the person sitting opposite of you at the table.
“Looking good.”, Peter commented. Jean had to agree. This was a very different kind of Charles, younger, of course, but also… happier? Less settled, less perfect. Less of a professor, more of a young man. Neither Jean nor Peter had ever known him like this.
“Let’s do this.”, Peter interrupted Jean’s thoughts by getting up, aiming for the table by the window. She grabbed his hand. “Peter, no! You can’t talk to her in front of him!” “Why not? He know that she’s a mutant, how couldn’t he?” Peter gestured towards you. “He mustn’t know! It might ruin everything, change everything.”, Jean insisted. Peter furrowed his brows and sat back down. “Isn’t that our job, though?”, he asked. “Aren’t we here to change everything?”
“Yes, but we need to talk to her alone, we don’t know…” Jean was interrupted by the professor und you, standing up and walking towards the diner door whilst continuing a seemingly rather heated discussion. She could only hear snippets of what you said, but you didn’t look happy and the professor’s eyes bore the kind of expression, that they only showed, whenever a student hadn’t done his papers in class for like the thousandth time. “Oh no, this isn’t good.”, Jean murmured, trying to pick up, whatever your discussion was about, without you or Charles noticing her presence again. Conveniently, telepathy turned out to be unnecessary, as your disagreement got even more heated and loud enough for Jean to hear every word.
“You know what I mean.”, Charles said, his voice sounding urgent, like he was desperately trying to convince you of something. “Yes, I know, but I don’t agree. What do you think will happen, if we don’t do anything, Charles? Who is supposed to stand up for us? People don’t change all by themselves!” “And what if you…” “What if I get hurt? As oppose to countless others getting hurt, because we are too scared to fight? I don’t get it, Charles!” And with that, you stormed out of the door, leaving behind a dumbfounded Charles, who was tiredly rubbing his face, and a dining room full of silent, nosy people.
“Is this my queue to run after her?”, Peter asked, shoving a whole breadstick in his mouth before disappearing without waiting for an answer. Jean dropped a few dollars on the table, for their drinks, before running after him, but not without stealing a last glance at the desperate professor. Seeing him like this, with you, and hearing what you had to say, she suddenly realized, how important it was not to fail this mission.
Raven had said, that you could change everything for the mutant community, that it had always been your dream to fight for equal rights and to someday change the fate of all of you. And hearing what you had said to Charles, Jean actually believed her. Yes, in her time, mutants lived out in the open, but what they had still wasn’t anywhere close to equality. To maybe change history, to save you and give you the chance to fight for what was right, for what you believed in… Up to this point, Jean had only wanted to save you because of Charles and because of the fact, that you had been her age, when these men had killed you and that nobody deserved to practically die a child. But this was more and suddenly, Jean thought, as she hasted down the street, following the direction, in which you had disappeared, suddenly, she was so thankful to have this opportunity, to be able to make a difference.
With a sudden gust of wind and a wide grin, Peter reappeared in front of her and made her jump. “Jesus, Peter!”, she cursed, placing on hand on her racing heart. “Where is she?” Jean looked behind him.
“I followed her home. It’s only a few blocks from here, but I thought, it might be weird, if a total stranger just jumped her in the dark, you know?” Jean nodded, though slightly disappointed. “We can just go to her house tomorrow morning. Slightly less creepy, if you ask me.”, Peter grinned. “We should probably find a place to stay for the night.”

Extra special thanks!I got so much feedback and love for my two previous Hyrule Warriors topics.For the ones who aren't sure what Hyrule Warriors isandFor the ones who want to know if buying a second/third time is worth itAs someone who's always dreamt of, tried to, and failed at being a writer, it means the world to me to see people not only enjoy my little articles, but find them useful. It's thrilling to get comments saying that they plan on buying the game now thanks to me, and even the ones who read my article and decided the game isn't for them. I love you guys. Thank you so much.So what's this topic about?This time, it's just pure gameplay tips and strategies to make you a Hyrule Warriors master. While the core gameplay is very simple, a lot of incredibly useful information is not readily available. Some of this information is going to be for specific versions of the game, but I'll try to keep the information as general as possible.Did you know that you can manually break into a sprint at any time?Everyone probably knows that when you begin running, it usually takes a few seconds before your character will break into a sprint. Some of the bulkier characters can take a long ass time before they reach their full speed and it can make some characters much more tedious than others to play. Luckily, there's a sprint button hidden right on your controller/3DS.If you dodge, and then hold the dodge button while holding a direction, you'll immediately begin a full sprint in that direction. No more waiting for your character to reach full speed. I'm ashamed to admit I didn't figure this out until the 3DS version came out.Giant bosses can be defeated without even using the item they are weak to.I hated the giant bosses in the Wii U version. Sitting, and waiting for them to perform the attack that exposes their weak point is so painfully boring. It really screws up the satisfying quick pace of the game. Luckily, you have an attack that can knock them flat on their ass immediately. Again, I didn't find this out until the 3DS version.After filling up your magic meter (the green vertical bar) you enter what's called Focus Spirit mode. From here, by performing a special attack (the one with the fancy cutscene) you'll perform a devastating attack that will immediately expose the boss's weak point gauge. This saves an incredible amount of time.3DS and Switch players will get an even bigger bonus. If they gather two of their commandable warriors at a boss, both warriors will immediately fill their magic bars to full.Don't neglect capturing outposts.As you probably know, capturing keeps will do two things for you. One, it will periodically spawn troops and raid captains who will go out and harass your enemies. Secondly, they'll often times be required for certain objectives. Raid captains are a pain in the ass, and are usually the main reason that you'll be losing your keeps, and sometimes even lose control of the whole battle in fights that drag on too long.What you might not know, is that raid captains have to stop at every enemy outpost they meet along the way to their target keep. Outpost captains are in the game to stop raid captains. Capturing an outpost takes you less than five seconds, and can stall raid captains for a long time.Don't neglect Gold SkulltullasSure, everyone loves collectables in games, but a lot of folks I've talked to largely ignored the Gold Skulltullas because they didn't really care about filling out the illustrations. They're just for the image gallery... right...? Well...Killing Gold Skulltullas does two things for you;One, you'll unlock new apothecary bonuses for each one you kill. This is hugely important for getting better weapon and material drops. Perhaps the most interesting, is that in order to get "perfect" weapons, you'll NEED these special potions. If nothing else, make sure you kill at least 50 Gold Skulltullas in your travels.The second reason is that the first time you complete any illustration, you'll unlock an adventure mode map called the "Rewards Map". You'll get a new tile for every illustration you complete. This map will have special stages based on the illustration you finished, plus special rewards.So how do you make a Gold Skulltula appear? It's different for each one. Each Legends mode Skulltula is unique, and you'll need to look up a guide for that. As for Adventure mode, they typically appear after 1,000 KOs, or if you complete the first objective and get 1,200 KOs before taking 4 hearts of damage. Be sure to check a guide if you aren't sure.My Fairy mode makes getting A ranks very, very easy.This is only for the 3DS and Switch folks, as My Fairy isn't in the Wii U version.One thing that everyone should understand about the enemies in the game is that there are thousands and thousands of them. More than the game can render at once. If too many gather in one area, they have to "wait their turn" to spawn in. There might be 1,000 monsters in one small area, but you can only see a small portion of them. This is the reason that you can be slaying enemies non-stop and they seem to just keep spawning in.The answer to this is My Fairy. The fairies have a special magic blast that they unlock once they're a high enough level. This attack not only kills all of the monsters in an area around you, but also kills all the monsters that are waiting their turn to spawn in the area. This can easily net you hundreds, or even over a thousand kills in a single attack depending on where you use it. Use your map to find the area with the highest concentration of enemy captains. Usually that is where the majority of the enemy army is waiting to spawn. Swoop in with a full magic meter and pop off your fairy barrier blast, and enjoy your free few hundred kills.This will help you get the 1,200 KO requirement for a lot of A rank missions very easily.I highly suggest checking out a more detailed guide on My Fairy. Some of the special abilities they can give you are straight up unreal, but it takes a lot of effort to create your perfect fairy.Most of the "bad" characters aren't bad at all, and just have deeper mechanics.I notice a lot of people seem to try a character out, find them lacking, and pass them off as just being a "bad" character. Some of the most powerful characters are ones that just tend to have confusing mechanics, such as Zant, Agitha, and King Daphnes.Lets look closer at Zant: People will immediately notice that all of his combos end in him stunning himself. If you stunned yourself as Zant, you pushed his combo too hard. Zant has a sort of "rage" mechanic. When you perform a combo, you can keep hitting the heavy attack button to really lay into enemies. As you do, his rage meter builds up. If it reaches maximum and you continue to push the attack, he will over exert himself and get stunned. The idea is to stop hitting the button the moment it reaches maximum. At that point, you can cool him off by simply performing his heavy attack to unleash a flurry of spinning blades or projectiles. This mechanic isn't explained well in the game, so a lot of people are left wondering how the heck to play as him. He's actually one of the most powerful, and fun characters to play once you get the hang of him.I highly recomend checking out Gamesbrained's character guides on Youtube for every character. Really, watch them all. Did you know that you can have Young Link put on his Keaton mask and roar? Or have Linkle put her hood up? You learn cool shit like that in his videos.Some characters are vastly better than others, but there's really only one or two that are plan "Bad", and Agitha isn't one of them.Not much else to say, but again, I'm going to recommend watching Gamesbrained's character guides.Elements matter. They actually have three different uses.Believe it or not, your weapon element does a lot for you.First of all, you'll get a significant attack bonus for using a weapon of that element in that stage. That's why it's very useful to have "main" characters of each element. Luckily, on the 3DS and Switch versions of the game, you can get weapons that have dual elements. The recommended element is the element that will trigger for any given stage. On top of that, depending on what badges you buy for your skill trees, you can give yourself hefty defense bonuses for stages with certain element types.Don't go in thinking that you can "counter" a fire-element stage with a water element weapon. It doesn't work like that. You'll want to take a fire weapon to a fire stage.Each element also applies a special status effect on enemies:Fire causes airborne enemies to explode when they hit the ground, dealing splash damage.Water wraps a bubble around an enemy's head, slowly causing damage.Lightning causes increasing bonus damage for each hit that an enemy takes before they hit the ground.Light causes bonus damage to groups of enemies that are hit consecutively.Darkness causes bonus damage to single enemies that are hit consecutively.Interestingly enough, a lot of weapons have a moveset that compliments their specific element. For example, Ghirahim is the best one on one duelest in the game, and his darkness effect compliments that very well.It should be noted that not every attack will apply a weapon's element to an enemy. For example, Shiek's harp can apply all sorts of elemental effects, but still only gains the damage bonus from "Lighting recommended" stages.On top of that, every enemy, giant boss, monster captain, and even playable hero has an elemental weakness:Fire: King Dodongo, Gibdo, Moblin, Stalmaster, Icy Big Poe, Agitha, TingleWater: Manhandla, Helmaroc King, Fiery Aeralfos, ReDead Knight, Lizalfos, Big Poe, Stone Blin, Goron Captain, Darunia, VolgaLightning: Argorok, Aeralfos, Darknut, Dinolfos, Shield Moblin, Big Blin, Lana, Ruto, MarinLight: The Imprisoned (large and small), Ganon, Phantom Ganon, Ganondorf, Midna, Zant, Ghirahim, Cia, Wizzro, Twili Midna, Skull Kid, Ravio, YugaDarkness: Gohma, Hylian Captain, Link, Impa, Sheik, Zelda, Fi, Young Link, Linkle, Toon Link, Tetra, King Daphnes, Medli, Toon ZeldaThis can be a tad hard to predict, so it's best to simply use a weapon that grants you the "element recommended" bonus.Unlocking the true Master SwordYou may have noticed that Link's Master Sword has two locked abilities on it. These abilities don't become unlocked until you've unlocked every other weapon in the game. After that, you'll need to grind out a whopping number of monster kills before the abilities reveal themselves, but they are incredibly powerful. They will make the Master Sword in to by far the most powerful weapon in the game, even moreso than "Perfect" weapons. It seriously turns the Master Sword into a "win" button, but it's effectively one of the hardest things to unlock in the game.Getting a "perfect" weapon.A perfect weapon is the best weapon that you can get with any specific character. In the 3DS and Switch versions, this means a dual element, level 4+ weapon, with 8 slots, 5 stars, and 750 base damage.It's actually not terribly complicated to get one. In order to find that weapon, you need to be holding the weapon type you're looking for. For example, if you want a perfect Ocarina for Skull Kid, you need to be attempting this with an Ocarina weapon. You'll need to use the blacksmith to equip the Stars+ and Slots+ skills to the weapon. Then, before each match you need to get the Apothecary mixture "Weapon Rank III". This is going to require that you kill 50 Gold Skulltulas.It remains to be seen what the best maps will be for grinding this out on Switch, but on 3DS, a good one is B-16 in Lorule. Finish the mission, and look over your rewards. If you don't like what you see, simply reset your system before leaving the weapons screen and saving. You'll save your pricey Apothecary mixture.It's a beautiful thing.Also make sure you're appraising those hidden weapon skills. Some of the hidden ones are absolutely insane. Much more exciting than Darkness+.None of the above information is mandatory for you to have an amazing time with this game.I've gone over a few somewhat intricate mechanics of the game. Really, none of them are mandatory for you to have a blast playing the game. You don't need the ultimate My Fairy skills, or the perfect weapons in order to have a fantastic time. Though... really you should learn how to sprint.Got any tips you'd like to throw in? If you teach me something new about the game, I'll include it here with credit!Thank you all so much!Edits:/u/Henryuuk pointed out that Focus Special Attacks force ALL enemies to reveal their weak point, not just giant bosses. A brief:
Sweeter Than Heaven
Jasmine was twenty fourth years aged young lady. She fell into love with a rich young man Micheal. Jasmine’s association with Micheal was indeed a long time back from her thirteenth year itself. It happened so because Jasmine’s father Richards was senior manager in Micheal’s father’s office and Jasmine used to go with him to his office and there met Micheal. Occasionally she went to Micheal’s house as well. In that course, first friendship, later love developed between Jasmine and Micheal. Just before going to United States of America for studying his M.B.A., Micheal conveyed his love to Jasmine and she accepted it and as expected by him she was also having love feeling on him.
Micheal completed his M.B.A. and returned to India. Love between Jasmine and Micheal transpired to the elders. Jasmine’s father Richards had no objection to his daughter’s marriage with Micheal. Micheal’s father Arnold as well had agreed to the marriage and he was about to fix a sooner date for it. But he suddenly died with heart attack.
Jasmine could not understand the change in Micheal after his father’s death. He stopped coming to Jasmine and talk with her. He started treating Richards roughly in the office. Richards told his unpleasent experiences with Micheal to Jasmine and felt bad. On one day Richards as well died with heart attack.
Jasmine thought only because of the Micheal’s uncivilized treatment her father got heart attack and died. Jasmine and her sister Rose had got lot of love and affection on their father. After their mother’s death it was their father who looked after them quite carefully and with lot of love and affection. Rose did understand Micheal knowing his short temper which he inherited from his father besides other properties and assets but Jasmine not. Hate and anger towards Micheal filled Jasmine’s heart evicting the love feeling in it by force. Micheal apologized to her for his behavior and tried to make her understand but in vain. Jasmine denied even all the benefits which she and her sister entitled to Receive from Micheal’s organization for their father’s long service in it, only because of her strong revulsion on Micheal.
Now a situation arose that Jasmine must do some job to look after herself and her sister. Besides applying for various jobs in news papers, she went to her close friend Lucy and asked her to locate a job for her. Micheal could not remain peaceful knowing how Jasmine and Rose would suffer without any financial assistance. He asked his friend and distant relative Stuart to find a way to help Jasmine. Stuart met Lucy and told her about his mission and Lucy told him about Jasmine’s coming to her and asking to locate a job for her. Then with Micheal’s influence a job had been arranged in an auditor’s firm Zebra Associates and made Jasmine joined in it without her knowledge that Micheal was behind that. In that process for convenience a character by name David as well created. Jasmine felt so happy in her job and started trying to forget about Micheal.
Micheal’s father’s friend’s wife and daughter, Eliza and Susan, came to his home. Micheal had lot of love and affection on that mother and daughter and he told them about his present predicament. Eliza sympathized and put courage in him and Susan made a promise to him that she would make Micheal and Jasmine united again.
But Eliza and her daughter Susan’s real purpose was different. They felt very much happy coming to know that marriage between Micheal and Jasmine never would happen. Eliza so badly wishing that Susan would marry Micheal and get a hold on his properties. She gave several directions to Susan to make their dream come true. In that process Susan went to the house of Jasmine and said to her that Micheal behaved badly with Jasmine’s father as her father used to interfere unnecessarily with each and everything of the office matter. On hearing this Jasmine anger on Micheal doubled. At Micheal, Susan said as per her opinion Jasmine fell in love with someone else and did not want Micheal in her life again and that was the reason why she was showing anger on Micheal so and keeping him away despite the fact that he profusely apologized to her. Eliza as well supported her daughter’s opinion. Micheal very much depressed on hearing that.
As it was so, on one day, by mistake Susan and Micheal’s cell phones changed places. While Susan’s cell phone with Micheal, her boyfriend Robert called and Micheal attended that. Robert said that Susan and he were going to be married the next month. During their talking Micheal came to know that Robert was his childhood friend. After knowing Robert prolonged the marriage for two years because of the losses in his business, Micheal promised to him that he would help him to cover up the losses and put it on the track again.
After knowing that Micheal came to know about Robert and Susan’s love affair and their proposed marriage in the next month itself, Susan and her mother’s all hopes were shattered into pieces. Only few days back that they came to know about Robert’s true financial condition and it was decided by Eliza that Susan’s marriage with Robert never to take place. They came to Micheal’s place without telling Robert at all and they were with the hope that it would be a long time before he knew where they were. In the meanwhile they would see Susan’s marriage with Micheal to be performed. Now after Micheal’s knowing about Susan and Robert’s love affair and Robert’s knowing about where Susan and Eliza were, there was no way at all to get their dreams fulfilled.
When Rita, Jasmine’s close friend in office, expressed surprise in Jasmine’s joining in that office in such a magical way, through a person named David who said to be Rita’s boss’ friend about whom Rita never had heard even she knew all her boss’s friends, Jasmine started doubting. After some further probing with her boss and close friend Lucy, she came to know that Micheal was behind in her getting job in Zebra Associates. She immediately resigned to the job. Knowing about it, Micheal came to her house and pleaded with her to join in the job again. Jasmine scolded him and sent him away. With depression, unknowingly Micheal took too many sleeping pills and hospitalized.
Jasmine saw her father’s diary in her room and read it. It gave her conscience a jolt. She shook from top to bottom. As per her father’s diary, Micheal asked her father to forgive him for his rude behavior with him. Micheal asked it so politely and good naturedly and Richards felt so much happy. Her father happily had forgiven Micheal. They both did talk more than half an hour on that day. In fact her father felt bad as he had said about Micheal’s bad behavior with him to Jasmine and created a breach between Jasmine and Micheal. He tried to say about Micheal’s apologizing to him to Jasmine but at that time Rose slipped on a rock on the backside of the house, sprained her ankle and yelled loudly. Jasmine and Richards went there and on that day he could not get the chance again to talk with Jasmine to say about Micheal’s apologizing to Richards. On that very night Richards died with a heart attack. What more he had written in that diary was, it was not fist time to Richards suffering heart attack. In before as well on some occasions he felt severe pain in his heart. He wanted to talk all this with Jasmine the next day and he wrote like that in the diary. But his heart attack claimed him on that night.
Realizing that Micheal was not at all the reason for her father’s heart attack and he apologized to her father for his bad behavior with him, Jasmine’s heart completely changed. She repented for her behavior and once again she felt lot of love and affection towards Micheal. When she came to know that Micheal was hospitalized, she could not wait at all and rushed to there. Micheal felt so happy for the change came into Jasmine. He made Susan agreed to marry Robert. In the end Robert and Susan came to him together and Eliza as well agreed to the marriage of Susan with Robert.
