Uthana Ekadashi: A Day of Spiritual Awakening and Devotion
Introduction
Uthana Ekadashi, also known as Prabodhani Ekadashi or Deva Uthani Ekadashi, is one of the most auspicious days in the Hindu calendar. It marks the end of the four-month long Chaturmas period, during which Lord Vishnu is believed to be in a state of deep slumber. The day holds special significance for devotees, as it is considered the time when Lord Vishnu awakens from His cosmic sleep. Uthana Ekadashi falls on the 11th day (Ekadashi) of the bright fortnight (Shukla Paksha) of the month of Kartika, which typically occurs in October or November.
Significance of Uthana Ekadashi
The Awakening of Lord Vishnu According to Hindu mythology, Lord Vishnu, the preserver of the universe, rests during the Chaturmas, a period of four months starting with Ashadha Ekadashi and ending on Uthana Ekadashi. During this time, it is believed that the world is in a dormant phase, and Lord Vishnu remains in a state of sleep. Uthana Ekadashi symbolizes His awakening, bringing vitality, prosperity, and blessings to the world.
End of Chaturmas and Beginning of Auspicious Events The end of Chaturmas marks the beginning of many auspicious events and religious activities. Devotees believe that fasting, prayer, and spiritual practices performed on Uthana Ekadashi bring divine blessings and remove obstacles in life.
The Importance of Fasting Fasting on Uthana Ekadashi is considered highly auspicious. It is believed that observing a strict fast, consuming only fruits, milk, and other sattvic (pure) foods, purifies the mind and body, leading to spiritual awakening. Devotees pray to Lord Vishnu on this day for peace, prosperity, and protection from all evil.
Lord Vishnu's Blessings It is said that anyone who fasts and prays with devotion on this day will receive the blessings of Lord Vishnu. The soul is said to be freed from the cycle of birth and rebirth, ensuring liberation (moksha) in the afterlife.
Rituals and Observances on Uthana Ekadashi
Morning Rituals On the morning of Uthana Ekadashi, devotees take a holy bath to purify themselves. They then perform a special pooja (prayer) to Lord Vishnu, offering flowers, fruits, and sandalwood. Reciting the Vishnu Sahasranama or the Bhagavad Gita is common on this day.
Fasting and Prayers Devotees fast throughout the day, abstaining from grains and other tamasic foods. They may consume fruits, vegetables, and dairy products. The fast is typically broken after sunset, with a special prayer to Lord Vishnu for forgiveness and blessings.
Spreading Joy and Charity As a part of the celebrations, devotees also engage in acts of charity, offering food, clothes, and donations to the needy. It is believed that such acts of kindness earn the devotee the grace of Lord Vishnu.
Significance in Different Regions
While Uthana Ekadashi is widely celebrated across India, its observance is especially prominent in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, and South India. Temples dedicated to Lord Vishnu are beautifully decorated, and special events, prayers, and rituals are organized. In some places, grand processions and cultural programs are held to mark the occasion.
Conclusion
Uthana Ekadashi is a day that combines devotion, fasting, prayer, and a deep connection with Lord Vishnu. Observing the rituals and fasting with sincerity brings spiritual fulfillment and blessings. The awakening of Lord Vishnu on this day signifies a renewal of life, a reminder of the eternal power of the divine, and an opportunity to experience peace, joy, and spiritual growth.

Guru Purnima (Poornima) is a spiritual tradition in Indian religion dedicated to spiritual and academic teachers, who are evolved or enlightened humans, ready to share their wisdom, with very little or no monetary expectation, based on Karma Yoga. It is celebrated as a festival in Nepal, India and Bhutan by the Hindus, Jains and Buddhists. This festival is traditionally observed by Hindus, Buddhists and Jains to revere their chosen spiritual teachers / leaders and express their gratitude. The festival is celebrated on the full moon day (Purnima) in the Hindu month of Ashadha (June–July) as it is known in the Hindu calendar of India and Nepal. The festival is celebrated in the Indian sub-continent from the Ancient Ages. The celebration is marked by spiritual activities and may include a ritualistic event in honor of the Guru; that is, the teachers which is called Guru Pooja. The Guru Principle is said to be a thousand times more active on the day of Guru Purnima than on any other day. The word Guru is derived from two words, gu and ru. The Sanskrit root gu means darkness or ignorance, and ru denotes the remover of that darkness. Therefore, a Guru is one who removes the darkness of our ignorance. Gurus are believed by many to be the most necessary part of life. On this day, disciples offer pooja (worship) or pay respect to their Guru (spiritual guide). In addition to having religious importance, this festival has great importance for Indian academics and scholars. Indian academics celebrate this day by thanking their teachers as well as remembering past teachers and scholars. Traditionally the festival is celebrated by Buddhists in honor of the Lord Buddha who gave His first sermon on this day at Sarnath, Uttar Pradesh, India. In the yogic tradition, the day is celebrated as the occasion when Shiva became the first Guru, as he began the transmission of yoga to the Saptarishis. Many Hindus celebrate the day in honor of the great sage Vyasa, who is seen as one of the greatest Gurus in ancient Hindu traditions and a symbol of the Guru-shishya tradition. Vyasa was not only believed to have been born on this day, but also to have started writing the Brahma Sutras on ashadha sudha padyami, which ends on this day. Their recitations are a dedication to him, and are organised on this day, which is also known as Vyasa Purnima. The festival is common to all spiritual traditions in Hinduism, where it is an expression of gratitude toward the teacher by his/her disciple. Hindu ascetics and wandering monks (sanyasis), observe this day by offering puja to their Guru, during the Chaturmas, a four-month period during the rainy season, when they choose seclusion and stay at one chosen place; some also give discourses to the local public. Students of Indian classical music and Indian classical dance, which also follow the Guru shishya parampara, celebrate this holy festival around the world.#GuruPurnima #GuruPurnima2020 #BEST GURU TV #Secrets and Significance of Guru Purnima #GuruPurnima Puja Procedure # Guru Poornima #Guru Pournami #గురు పౌర్ణమి#Guru Purnima Special #July5thగురుపౌర్ణమి స్పెషల్ #Guru Poornima remedy #Guru Purnima #How to Benefit from it ? #అఖంఢ అ మండలాకారం #వ్యాసాయ విష్ణురూపాయ #వ్యాసం వశిష్ఠ నప్తారం #व्यासम् #विष्णु #वशिष्ट #शक्ति #पराशरम् #अखंड मण्डलाकारम् #Guru Purnima – Story #Significance #Chanting Mantra #Guru Pournima #Vyas Purnima #When the First Guru was Born #Why is Guru Purnima No Longer A Big Celebration In India? #purnima #purnimavrat #fullmoon #जुलाई #गुरुपूर्णिमा #5th july ,2020 #Lunar Eclipse!! #గురుపౌర్ణమి వైశిష్ట్యం #गुरु पूर्णिमा #महत्व #मान्यता पूजा विधि, #सावधानिया और तिथियाँ मिलेगा गुरुओ का आर्शीवाद #Guru Purnima #गुरु पूर्णिमा का महत्व, #What is guru purnima #why gurupurnima is celebrated #guru purnima kya tarikh ki hai, guru purnima kyu manaya jata hai, guru purnima kyu manate hain, guru purnima kyu manate hai #kab hai guru purnima #guru #purnima, guru purnima festival, guru purnima festival 2020 #गुरु #पूर्णिमा पर पूजन #गुरु पूर्णिमा का महत्व #गुरु पूर्णिमा पूजा का महत्व #गुरु पूर्णिमा कब है #Guru Purnima - Story, Significance, Chanting Mantra As per Puranas, Auspicious day #Story of Vyasa Maharshi #GuruPurnima2020 Essay #Speech On Guru Purnima in English #essayongurupurnimainenglish #गुरु पुणिर्मा - ओशो #Guru Mantra #ShriGuruPadukaStotram #GuruPurnima #5julygurupujaShri Guru Paduka Stotram #Guru Mantra Chanting #Guru Purnima Special #Importance of Guru Purnima #गुरु पूजा #गुरु को आमंत्रित करने की शक्तिशाली प्रक्रिया। #Guru Pournami Pooja For Getting GOOD Luck #गुरु पूर्णिमा स्पेशल आज ये हर एक को सुनना चाइये गुरु हो या न हो Follow us on FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/best.guru.77... Due to the existence of pilgrims, the Goddesses also live here because there is no existence of pilgrim without the God of the holy place.
In connection with Dev Deepawali, Dev Deepawali Festival committee and chief member of pilgrimage group Mahasangha Mathura, Priya Nath Chaturvedi said that as Deepavali was celebrated on the arrival of Ayodhya after 12 years of exile Purushottam Shree Ram, in the same way, Devo and Tirtho Divya Deepawali is celebrated in Braj on the farewell.
#గురుపౌర్ణమి వైశిష్ట్యం #गुरु पूर्णिमा #महत्व #मान्यता पूजा विधि, #सावधानिया और तिथियाँ मिलेगा गुरुओ का आर्शीवाद #Guru Purnima #गुरु पूर्णिमा का महत्व, #What is guru purnima #why gurupurnima is celebrated #guru purnima kya tarikh ki hai, guru purnima kyu manaya jata hai, guru purnima kyu manate hain, guru purnima kyu manate hai #kab hai guru purnima #guru #purnima, guru purnima festival, guru purnima festival 2020 #गुरु #पूर्णिमा पर पूजन #गुरु पूर्णिमा का महत्व #गुरु पूर्णिमा पूजा का महत्व #गुरु पूर्णिमा कब है #Guru Purnima - Story, Significance, Chanting Mantra As per Puranas, Auspicious day #Story of Vyasa Maharshi #GuruPurnima2020 Essay #Speech On Guru Purnima in English #essayongurupurnimainenglish #गुरु पुणिर्मा - ओशो #Guru Mantra #ShriGuruPadukaStotram #GuruPurnima #5julygurupujaShri Guru Paduka Stotram #Guru Mantra Chanting #Guru Purnima Special #Importance of Guru Purnima #गुरु पूजा #गुरु को आमंत्रित करने की शक्तिशाली प्रक्रिया। #Guru Pournami Pooja For Getting GOOD Luck #गुरु पूर्णिमा स्पेशल आज ये हर एक को सुनना चाइये गुरु हो या न हो Follow us on FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/best.guru.7731?ref=bookmarks TWITTER: https://twitter.com/PHANIKR94440243 INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/bestgurutv BLOGGER: https://www.blogger.com/profile/12948348718423412871
