Welcome to my long post about this boi because he's my fav ahah!

First impression:

In 2011 it I watched the first Transfromers baymovie. It was the "ohh he's an alien who quickly befriended a hum that so cool I love him!" thing, I so easy to please when it comes to interspecies relationships. I enjoyed the movies and Bumblebee quickly became my fav.

Then love for him solidified more and I found out about his G1 version and his info immediately spoke to me om personal level. He's cute, getting along human and seem gentle, but he also struggles with hiS place in the world and among his own friends.

It hit close to home.

Impression now:

I know I keep repeating myself a lot, but Bumblebee deserves a good writing! I want to see this original self with his struggles to be properly explored!

It only he wouldn't fall into " cute mascot of the show" box =/

He has so much potential for incredible character arc. This subject rarely appears, and if it does, it usually resolved quickly, which is not how it works.

In Plight of the Bumblebee from old marvel comics, he gets depressed ( yes, not just upset) about he don't feel belong among Autobots. He feels useless and even responsible for losing the battle ("If I were more help" ), firmly believing no one will notice if he's gone. He wishes to be a human because humans are weak, and if he was a human, someone would need him.

Then he just runs away without a word.

And then much later in Go for a Gold & Win if You Dare he compares himself to meteors, that burn in atmosphere before making any impact. And even if they do - they crush to pieces. Not to mention he constantly talks himself down ( "I'm not smart as Wheeljack", "I'm not strong as Grimlock") almost through entire the comic.

This this depressing as fuck, and believe me, just because your friends saved you or because you realized the importance of teamwork those feelings will not go away. Sure you will feel validated for few day, but they will come again, and again, and again.

He feels alienated from his own people, he feels weak, useless and unwanted, he has a constant need to prove himself, even if it kills him. His highest stat is courage, and this is probably why!

All this brings up an important question I haven't found a answer: what happened to him?!

Insecurities, especially like these, never appear out of thin air!

He shows signs of neglect at best, or abuse at worst.

Dreamwave's Guide said that Sunstreaker is bulling him and constantly makes fun of his failures in front other Autobots who laugh, believing it's just teasing. But cmon, I don't need tell you how damaging this shit is, especially when it's done for years.

But sadly, it's just a guide, it's not even a comic, so why?? Why not explore this??? Like seriously!

Even in TFA where it was shown that Bumblebee was abused in bootcamp, but the show never, ever made it a trauma, which is ridiculous! Optimus, Ratchet and Prowl had their own struggles, but Bumblebee must remain okay? As if being constantly picked up, and his legs being detached while he was locked isn't traumatizing enough??? I swear, people don't realized how bulling can break people and drive them to suicide ugh.

Another thing that bothers me is why Bumblebee needs to die (Goldbug) in order to become mature and stop stressing about what others thinks? And if he reverts back to Bumblebee, his insecurities are suddenly back as if nothing happened??

This is why I will not calm down until I see proper writing for him. I will demand his presence in each TF media and I don't care if fandom hates him xD

Because cmon, you can have a character with struggles and dark secrets who is also is full of hear and tender =/

Seriously, hire me Hasbro!

Favorite moment:

Ohhh there are so many across multiple continuities! I love every moment when he interact with his human friends and Windblade! ))) And generally Bumblebee is such delight to see, even if I picky about his looks ahah.

Idea for a story:

This is entirety of Sparkpulse! He not only has insecurities, but he has to deal with horrific trauma and phobias. He' not just a cute mascot or angry boi - this Bumblebee can do both!

He's like force of nature, a benevolent being who will bear many blessings to people he care about, to people who treat him kindness and respect...but if you wrong him, you will pay in full.

I explore a lot for ideas here. Like anger is not being inherently evil emotion, but a useful and powerful tool if controlled.

Or the fact that cute and kind character can be genially terrifying if he want to be.

He has so much compassion, but at the same time he can be relentless and merciless. Yet even here, he knows the price of life and will only resort to killing if literally anything else failed.

He's dedicated and wise, but also too hard on himself.

He's incredibly strong, but this strength is not limitless. Bumblebee must learn to rely on others, that it's okay to be weak, that he doesn't have to be useful in order to live.

This journey is long and full of hardship, but he's not alone and with his friends help he will let himself to make a first step towards healing.

Unpopular opinion:

I would only say that Bee is not bad character and actually can very complex. It's just Hasbro refuses to write him properly, sadly not many ppl see it and explore possibilities.

Oh well, I will have to do it myself then)

Favorite relationship:

I love his relationship with Windblade, like said in her post, it's very Ghibli like and full of love. I also love his relationships with humans! I would say much more, but I'm a bit tired and I don't know where to start.

Also his relationship with Starscream is such fun concept, that I will dive into it in my cont!

Favorite headcanon:

Oh gosh, there are way too many of them, the entire Sparkpusle is build on headcanons and ideas xD

You are taking to Scalpel’s number one fan. I will HAPPILY do characters not in the show. In fact for you I will do both!

First impression

[Magnificus] me, reading his almanac bio right after scalpel’s for the first time: so he is the son of that bug who I hope I don’t become deeply obsessed with

[Perceptor] WHATEVER HAPPENED TO ROBOT JONES!? I like his gay little glasses.

Impression now

[Magnificus] HE IS VERY COOL... Admittedly, he is a character I need to give more attention to!! Like Scalpel, I play favorites and of his children I have given Toxitron the most thought. 😔 But he already has a fun concept... being more interested in politics than science is hilarious. I need to finally draw him sometime!! I think there’s so much potential with him.

[Perceptor] LOVE THIS GUY. I think he’s especially neat in that you can explore his emotions in a more subtle way... He’s also not a character I’ve touched on a ton, but I like seeing how others have explored his character. Also he reminds me a little of Fi from Zelda and she’s a very important character to me so he gets bias for that.

Favorite moment

Magnificus doesn’t have Moments. 😔 In my HEART he does!!

Perceptor also hardly has moments, but I love in the Almanac where he talks about Wheeljack and he just lists off stastistics about how many times he’s injured himself and how much of his original body remains.

Idea for a story

Of course, I want to further explore Magnificus’ and Scalpel’s father-son relationship more... Featuring Oil Slick too because he’s also his dad.

I’m sorry these are all Scalpel related. I’ve always wanted to write about Scalpel’s days in the science guild and ESPECIALLY his one-sided rivalry with Perceptor who is just like... I don’t care. Can we please fire this guy?

Unpopular opinion

I don’t think there is such thing as an unpopular Magnificus opinion. Maybe this is for the better?

I don’t think Perceptor deleted ALL of his emotion and personality. I think it’s more meaningful if they still exist, but it’s about the SUBTLETIES!!

Favorite relationship

... Magnificus and his dads, Scalpel and Oil Slick. 😔 But I do think him and that little Ga’mede dude making an interesting pair too. He’s definitely on my mind for when I do my deeper Magnificus research. ��

I LOOOVE PERCEPTOR/WHEELJACK!! MARRIED MEN!!! THE DYNAMIC THEY HAVE!!!! THE FLAVOR!!! OPPOSITES ATTRACT!!! They love each other, they’re like the good version of ScalpelSlick.

Absolutely! Ahh, these are all tough ones, but in really fun make-me-search-my-memory-banks ways :D

6. A character that’s taken over a story/scene when they weren’t supposed to.

HM. I think I’m not going to be able to pick just one in here. Let’s see, You Caught Me In The Tide (the TFA dratchet fic) was supposed to be a beeline to porn and that was that, but Omega Supreme played a much larger role than I was expecting. And if Rodimus hadn’t been unconscious, he would have absolutely been all over the place. Even in a coma, he kept trying to inch further to center. Ohhh, and Pharma. I wasn’t expecting Pharma to be relevant at all, I just wanted him there, but then I forgot that I love him with every bit of my heart?

What else. In my Black Panther series of fics, I didn’t have any plans for doing something with Queen Ramonda, but an idea came to me out of nowhere and this story wrote so easily, and it’s one of my favorite out of the lot. And then in Your Face Becomes The Sun (starbladejack verse, wheeljack’s worst sleepover ever), I wasn’t expecting Jazz to be this relevant. Which is good, because I have future plans for him, but I am not the best long-term planner, and it was delightful to have him show up and have relevant emotions all over the place while enhancing this story and future ones XD Originally Wheeljack was supposed to get handed off to Optimus pretty quickly, but I’m very pleased with all the cameos that worked their way into the fic before Optimus actually showed up.

15. A fic of someone else’s that you’d like to try remixing: what would you do with it?

Ohh, you know what? I don’t know if this qualifies as a remix, and I first said ‘yeah, I’m totally gonna do the thing’ literal YEARS ago, but I still haven’t given up on writing horrorterror tailgate porn. My trouble is! I really want to capture the feel of the PROSE in white ink between dark stars, or I’m losing so much of the flavor that it seems like I shouldn’t bother. And the like, dreamy nightmare-y feel when Tailgate’s existence breaks the rules of physics is intimidating as hell to imitate, hahaha. I still want to buckle down and DO it, and really lean into the nightmare+affection mashup in cyclonus’s head while he’s getting physically overwhelmed in pleasant and pleasant(????) ways, but it’s been hard to find time to work on pinning it down. This probably qualifies as an answer to question 17 too, tbh

17. A fic of someone else’s that made you want to try something new in your writing

THE PRICE OF FORGIVENESS!!!!!!!!! Oh my god. Whether you homestuck or not, this fic. This fic. First of all, I still love it to fucking pieces, makaracest 4 lyfe, this fic and I are ride or die. But also, it felt like a longform story that was being told in a way that made that kind of plotting feel more accessible to me for the first time. It wasn’t a story with a single overarching plot being resolved, it was a relationship punctuated by plot developments. And it was filled with sex scenes that were STUFFED with emotions, and with emotions that evolve with the passage of time and progression of plot. I just... cannot do this story justice. I love it so dearly. I’m still very very bitter that I had to take down a bunch of fanart from tumblr when the new nsfw guidelines went into effect. But without this fic, I’m genuinely not sure if I would have ever started my starbladejack series, or the starclonus or rodistar series. Mine are not NEARLY as smoothly plotted and don’t flow as a single cohesive story like PoF, but this thing was still a hell of an inspiration

i once had an idea for a group of fanfics i called the Holy Trinity because there were three of them and they were all so similar.

one of them, Gensokyo’s Heart, i actually did seriously work on. in its initial form, it got thirty chapters out of its planned like 200, and is one of the most successful works of art i’ve ever created. and i tried to reboot it multiple times before i finally gave up on it late last year. but the other two, Yokosuka Naval Base’s Admiral is a Geth and Auto Idol, never really made it out the door.

the thing that tied these three fanfics together?

they were all crossover fics between an American (or at least semi-American in Auto Idol’s case) sci-fi series that i adored and a Japanese video game (or video game series) with a massive and predominantly female cast, with a particular focus on a non-human character (who also happens to be my favorite character) from the former hanging out with the cast of the latter. and that favorite character from the former would eventually become more human-like and also simultaneously trans their gender. and since i came up with all these story ideas shortly after i realized i was trans, they were actually, like, seriously transgender narratives.

in Gensokyo’s Heart, the American sci-fi series i adored was StarCraft, the Japanese video game series with a massive and predominantly female cast was Touhou, with the premise being that my favorite StarCraft character, Abathur, the Evolution Master of the Zerg, was on a mission in Gensokyo. eventually Abathur would use his evolution-manipulating powers to turn himself into a female Youkai.

in Yokosuka Naval Base’s Admiral is a Geth, the American sci-fi series i adored was Mass Effect, the Japanese video game with a massive and predominantly female cast was Kantai Collection, with the premise being that Kantai Collection was actually a sequel to the ME trilogy and when Shepard chose the control ending they also managed to sorta resurrect Legion (but also with no memory of their death in ME3, though they do later get their memory back), and Legion ended up being the Admiral of the Yokosuka Naval Base. the opening scene was gonna be Akebono being constructed and marching to the Admiral’s office to call her new boss a pervert only to discover that her new boss was a robot with a flashlight for a head. eventually, around the time Legion’d get their memory back, it’d also be decided that, since they’re made up of 1,183 programs, their platform technically counts as a ship, so they also make Legion into a shipgirl. and luckily enough for everyone involved, Legion actually decided in their last moments before they died that she was actually a girl, just nobody knew because she never got the chance to tell anyone and she didn’t even know because she lost her memory of that event. but now she had her memory back. so. yay.

and finally in Auto Idol, the semi-American sci-fi series i adored was Transformers (in this case, the original cartoon), the Japanese video game series with a massive and predominantly female cast was iDOLM@STER, and the premise was that it was the iM@S anime (the first (as long as you don’t count Xenoglassia) one that focused on 765 Pro) except it took place in the same universe as the original Transformers cartoon (which isn’t hard because the original show, being basically a saturday morning cartoon, made it pretty clear that, at least initially, the presence of the Autobots and Decepticons didn’t have much of an impact on daily life despite being public knowledge). and then Chihaya Kisaragi befriended the autobot Wheeljack and got into a bunch of misadventures. and eventually Wheeljack’d get upgraded into a Pretender (Pretenders being Transformers that can disguise themselves as humans) and his Pretender shell would be female.

Transformers Dark Of The Moon

I've finally seen the movie again after these years. Let me warn you, spoilers and I have a lot to say.

Their is really a lot to say about this movie. But I'm glad I finally got my to do list of watching the first three Bayformers now.

Another thing I'll be honest about I was gonna play the Dark Of The Moon game on PS3 but it requires more MB's to clear out but I decided fuck it I don't care. Especially it's a short game but I'm not doing that shit. I just wanna watch this film especially remembering this is a long film.

But back to the movie. I'll be honest and I'm not critic and my opinion may be invalid because lots of people hate Bayformers. We have a new continuity with the Bumblebee movie which I think is the best decision this franchise has done.

To me this movie while I like the first film from 2007.

After watching this and I'm still having some feelings after being it. But I feel this is my favorite out of the Bayformers saga. This is basically where it should of ended and should of let the Bayformers end with dignity. Or at least until a new director came along like Travis Knight or others.

Especially like I remember a movie guy named Cure4 on DeviantArt but he's gone from that shit. I agree with him and I'm thinking this is the sequel the 2007 film should of had.

I'm pissed and I hate that Age Of Extinction was the follow up to this film. Despite how people feel about this film, my God Bay tried to redeem himself after Revenge Of The Fallen a film that is like some sort of weird parody there the video game tie in's I see as the best version especially the PS3/Xbox 360/PC versions and even the Wii/PS2 versions.

Another thing I wanna reveal when I saw this film for the first time in theaters I actually used this.

I seriously wore that and it worked and it was awesome. It was a experience despite I felt nervous. I was young but what the hell it's gonna be 8 years since the movie was released. Especially the 3D was awesome when I saw it in theaters.

But back to the movie again I'm sorry. I'm not gonna make this a full review I don't wanna waste anyone's time.

When I think about it Sam is a lot better in this film. While I do feel some moments could be worked on. He should of apologized to Bee after he meets him I know Sam's angry. Especially this development of Sam wants to matter. This is much better then what we had in Revenge Of The Fallen.

Carly I honestly find more likable then Mikaela. Seriously I do especially that moment where she literally tells Megatron that he will basically be Sentinel's bitch if he doesn't do anything. She basically treats Sam with a bit more respect and well I like the relationship more then what Sam and Mikaela had.

Lennox and Epps were always great. Especially Epps during the scenes in Chicago. Simmons is seriously entertaining in this and Dutch is a blessing.

Let me just talk about Dylan Gould. This guy he's been on my mind. I made two joke posts him deleted the first one of he's been waiting for that betrayal towards Sam.

Patrick Dempsey honestly and his portrayal of Dylan is a performance that left an impression on me. Because I was actually surprised by his reveal of who he actually was. But seriously this man is a dick and in a way I like him. Despite seeing in the film him talking about making tough choices and him being on the winning side. Yet over the course of the film he starts to take it a bit personal.

While I kept thinking before seeing the film he was enjoying it maybe. But my view on it changed. I just think Patrick Dempsey kind of owns the role.

Yes we should talk about the robots and let me be honest. What I love about this film it's basically the Decepticons strike back. They are basically winning in this film. I love the Chicago invasion scene.

I do feel like the entire Bayformers series yes their should of been more Transformers screen time. Especially the Decepticons in this case. While I feel in Revenge Of The Fallen I can tell Starscream feels like he's a little snarky in some parts. While I know he's kissing up to Megatron to cover his ass. I would of liked some what....I don't know more snarky shit or something Starscream would say or do. Maybe even during his confrontation with Sam he mentioning after the Decepticons win that he would overthrow Megatron and become the winner.

I remember when I was young when I saw this for the first time. For Starscream I had hoped he would betray Megatron yet that would be so much for one film. Because that's Starscream from G1, Animated, and other continuities. At least one last hurrah before he dies.

Especially I remember when I was young I wanted Skids and Mudflap, along with Leo to come back....I was young and I enjoyed Revenge Of The Fallen a lot more okay. Wouldn't mind Leo but their seems to be a bit much but what the hell I wanted Dinobots in this film.(well it's said Skids and Mudflap are shown as cars but they were supposed to die....they did die by Sentinel in the movie comic)

I dig Soundwave in this film. Even Laserbeak these guys are douches but would of liked to seen more Soundwave. Especially I like this little dynamic between Dylan and Soundwave I know that's weird of me to say. Would of liked to seen more.

Shockwave in this film seriously I was hyped for him when I was young and playing the prequel game. I feel it's stupid he's not as important. He should of had more lines and more interactions. I even agree with a comment on YouTube he should of been in the Africa scene.

While he is badass it's stupid how he goes out but give him a better send off and a fight with Optimus Prime. I wanted to see more Shockwave and I think it would of been better if he was voiced by Mark Ryan. Frank Welker didn't do a bad job and he actually had two lines spoken in English.

At least his driller creature is cool. But seriously after all the hype and I want to just put some promotional stuff.

Whatever if this one is official or not. It's just in Shockwave's own words......logical. Or my own words fucking logical.

The reason I'm saying Mark Ryan because of his English accent and I want to be reminded of Corey Burton. Sorry for sounding weird.

Let me say I feel Sentinel Prime is probably the best antagonist actually we've had in a Transformers live action film especially in the Bayformers. Characters like Shatter and Dropkick are great. Even Lockdown was nice. But I liked Sentinel. I'll be honest I was actually surprised when I witnessed his betrayal when I was young. I thought the Decepticons were gonna force him to use the Pillars maybe even Shockwave but what we got was something else.

Also I really liked the scenes with Optimus and Sentinel. I do feel we should of gotten more and had them be longer. Especially I like Optimus in this. I do see their was this father and son or brother like relationship that Bay talked about. But would of liked to seen more.

The other Autobots are alright cool. I do feel the whole Que/Wheeljack thing was just seriously stupid. Especially now before Bumblebee a Wheeljack design that was more accurate. Tragic about the way he died.

Looking back at the film theirs not a lot of Cybertronian scenes but they leave an impact.

Also I really wanna talk about the ending with Optimus, Sentinel, and Megatron. We should of gotten more Megatron I agree.

But the scene where leading up to Optimus killing Sentinel seeing it in action after going through the movie. It is awkward in a way.

Yet I'll be honest Sentinel basically deserved it. In fact of the Decepticons, and Dylan fucking deserved what they got. Because after everything they did their to me was not a way shit would end peacefully or something. Including your hearing this from a Steven Universe fan a show that deals with pacifism and other shit.

I do feel and I've talked about this before but I might delete it now because I'm gonna mention it here. But I feel if the scene went like it was Megatron who kills Sentinel or this dark idea of Sentinel killing himself or even himself dying from wounds. Especially giving Megatron and Optimus more of a fight even with Optimus haven't one arm.

Or hell seriously Bay should of gone with the original that was kept in the novel that Megatron teamed up with Optimus to kill Sentinel and Megatron would stop what he's doing. Also hearing that it would of explored Megatron more. That ending would have his look in The Last Knight make sense that he went to Cybertron after Dark Of The Moon and over time he decided to go back leading the Decepticons. Instead they had to kill him off and the whole Galvatron thing. Even though Megatron got what was coming to him.

Gonna be honest the Starscream death while I like the idea of Sam having the courage to take on Starscream and even killing him. But I do feel Starscream should of died a more I guess epic death.

Especially I weirdly wanted Sam to be all Cade Yeager shooting Decepticons and some how killing them. I mean you Sam jumping on cars and even sliding under them.

Gonna say before seeing the movie I kept thinking Dylan in his fight with Sam should of died a more brutal death. Such as Sam telling him to shut up after the messager comment and beating him to death. But Dylan's death is perfect. Seriously he gets hit in the face with some sort of pole thing and dies by the pillar.

Listen I'm sorry for rambling a lot. This became more of some review or reaction. The action was seriously nice and the special effects, score was always excellent.

Gonna be honest while I wasn't emotional much throughout the movie. Did feel emotional over the, "The fight will be your own" scene and felt a little at the, "No Prisoners Only Trophies" scene....that should of had more weight. I'll be honest when I was young I was expecting Sam for some reason come out of hiding yelling no in slow motion, surprising everyone then the Decepticon drop ship gets hijacked.

Gonna say did enjoy Wheelie and Brains I like them. Glad they we're still around in later films.

I think I've talked too much. Basically I think this is the best Bayformers sequel, this is what we should got gotten as a sequel to the 2007 film. It's better then Revenge Of The Fallen, Age Of Extinction, and The Last Knight.

My only weird complaint that isn't towards the movie.....Dinobots could of been in this some how.....during the battle of Chicago. We should of gotten Dinobots vs the Driller. Grimlock voiced by Vin Diesel or whatever I've had that weird casting idea I think for years. Or even Devastator in this because it's a huge open battle with so many opportunities. While I understand Michael Bay didn't wanna go larger like he did with Revenge Of The Fallen. I'm just disappointed that the next film we got after this was Age Of Extinction.

Tags dealt with sorry that got wrong, their was a lot to talk about. Glad I could talk about this and again I finished my to do list of rewatching the original trilogy. Bring on the new cinematic universe in the Knightverse that started out with Travis Knight's Bumblebee I'm ready for more excellent films.

O: Welcome to the AfterSpark Podcast, an episode by episode recap of the original G1 Transformers cartoon. I’m Owls!

S: And I’m Specs!

O: And we’re here to talk to you about giant robots. Or at least, we will be! This is actually our intro. What we’d like to do is recap all of generation 1 because it is full of glorious, glorious cheese. Delightful, cheesy goodness and honestly we just want to talk about it, because it’s fun.

S: Yeah

O: And we just wanted to introduce ourselves and kind of our experience with fandom and what things we like before we got into actually talking about the episodes. You should be able to check out our actual first episode the same time we post this. So if you’re like, “Hey, I don’t really care about any of this stuff,” it’s cool, I get it. The other episode’s over there. It’s fine, we’ll see you in a few minutes. For the rest of you that are sticking around, allow us to introduce ourselves. We’ve been friends for nine (9) years.

S: Mm-hmm.

O: Uhh, we went to college together. We were both in art degrees so we like art and comics and media and all that junk.

S: Yep, yep.

O: We’re also neighbors that live in the same building, so one day I was like, “Hey, hey, Specs, want to talk about giant robots?”

S: And I’m like, “Yes!”

O: So here we are, getting ready to talk to you about giant robots, hopefully. We are both first time podcasters, and a shoutout to my husband Chezni for helping us out with sound, so hopefully we don’t sound like complete shit while you’re listening to us. Hopefully it’s a little bit slightly, well, cultured shit -

S: [Laughter]

O: -Or at least our sound quality doesn’t sound awful, because that’s a big deal in podcasting. One of my biggest inspirations was the Jem Jam, which is another podcast that does episode by episode recaps of Jem and the Holograms, which is another Eighties (80’s) Hasbro-

S: -Franchise.

O: Thank you. That is equally ridiculous in vastly different ways. Mostly involving the Eighties (80’s) and music and hair and fashion and all these lovely things.

S: And Soap Opera Drama~!

O: And Soap Opera level of drama. It was also delightful. Go was the show or listen to the podcast because it is completely ridiculous and highly entertaining. But! Something I noticed when I was trying to kind of look around at Transformers podcasts was that I didn’t see anything that quite had that same vibe of just a bunch of friends talking about something ridiculous and I really wanted that and realized it wasn't there and thought, “Eh, maybe we can do that?”

O: And yeah, that’s what we’re trying to do.

S: So. Hi, I’m Specs. I’m been, uhm. Oh, this feels- [sigh] - This feels like I’m in a support group.

O: [Laughter] Welcome! Tell us how Transformers has affected your life. Tell us, Specs! Tell us!

S: Eh, I got into Transformers in like 2002-2003 and I got into it with fanfic. Because of course I did. So much fanfic over the last, like, sixteen (16) years. Oh my god. [huff of laughter]

O: She has quite a collection downloaded.

S: I save things. Habitually. After, uh, there was the great ezboard wipeout of, like, 2005. So, I got into fanfic. Or got into Transformers through fanfic basically I’d been poking through the Medabots thing [category] on fanfiction.net and oh. This person who wrote this thing that I read has also written about these other robots. And I was like, “Ok, let me check this out,” and I had no idea what was going on, so I was like, “I’m going to read through this entire category or at least look through, find whatever the heck looks interesting and then read it,” and that was like 4000 things [fics/works] in the category at that point.

O: Which is significantly less than what’s in there now, I do feel the need to point out. But!

S: I still went through that, and yeah there was a lot of stuff. Yeah, there’s actually still things I really like that I read way back when but basically that was my first exposure to transformers. My first complete canon experience was the G1 [Marvel] comics, but US and UK runs. So I’ve read the entirety of that and I think I read that before 2003 was done, so before 2004. I’ve still got it. It’s been a long time since I’ve read it. Basically, my dad bought a CD, two CD’s actually that had scan of the comics and that’s how I read it and that’s my complete G1 comic experience.

O: So accidentally pirating. [Laughter]

S: [Laughter] Kind of, yeah.

O: Not intentional, but, uh, y’know.

S: Yeah, and then I ended up on the Padded Cell, which was like the- the major sort of transformative fandom hub at the time? A lot of the stuff you see in fanfic now came from people who were on that forum from like 2000-2008. It wasn’t really the hub of anything anymore as things shifted to Lifejournal and [later] Tumblr, People moved away from forums and into, y’know-

O: Other social media accounts.

S: Yeah

O: That were easier and, y’know, they didn’t have to keep servers up and all that junk.

S: Yeah, but it was- it was neat, because I got to see a lot of the fandom stuff, like evolving firsthand, but, uh, so yeah. My fave G1 characters are Ratchet, because I really thought that he was the main character-

O: [Stifled laughter]

S: - in the comics for awhile, because, like, everyone is frigging, like all the Autobots are frigging out.[Laughter] LIke really quickly after they wake up and Ratchet’s just off doing whatever with Buster and then he has to do like a blood-fuel? Pact with Megatron-

O: [Laughing]

S: [Laughing] -and it’s weird. Yeah.

O: I have no frame of reference for any of this.

S: Well, maybe you will soon.

O: She’s lending them to me. Oh no.

S: And then there’s Dead End because like the first DVD’s that I got- I got the second half of season two, and was like, “I like lIke Dead End’s voice, oh no, he’s depressed. Let me hug this- hug this poor robot and so I got the entire. I have an entire, like, complete original G1 Stunticon toys. Set of the G1 toys with all of their combiner stuff. Never actually got around to combining them because I’m lazy and I was more interested in the characters themselves than in Menasor. So yeah, I’ve got those and I’ll bring them up to show them to you and I’ll bring the Alternator Dead End up, too

O: Yes, show me more toys!

S: And- And Wheeljack., which I don’t have an original Wheeljack toy, but I do have a Wheeljack Alternator. Basically G1 sort of got me on the kick for medics and scientists. I like most of the medics that pop up in various series. And yeah, so, favorite overall character is Ratchet and Rescue Bot Blades, who is coincidentally, the Rescue Bots medic. [Laughter]

O: He was before he got turned into a helicopter [laughter]

S: Yeah

O: Which is a great out of context thing to say.

S: Yes, it is.

O: Blade’s is adorable!

S: Like all of the Rescue Bots characters are adorable and you should watch that right now. Go watch it.

O: It is better than it has any right to be. I know, you’re sitting here going- if you haven’t seen it already- why would I watch something that was made for preschoolers? It is written better than it has any right to be. I do not know why, I don’t care why. It is actually quite good and very entertaining even if you’re an adult and you like transformers.

S: It’s got some of the most consistent writing out of any of the shows, like they knew what they had to do, they worked well within the guidelines they had to work with. Like, no one can die, no one can be seriously injured.

O: Right. Because preschoolers. Right.

S: And so it doesn’t have any of the weird tonal inconsistencies that sometimes Prime could get and it wasn’t, like, canceled like Animated was.

O: [softly] Yeah.

S: [sighs] And then Rewind. He’s basically kind of a librarian, and I think. Just Rewind and Chromedome are really neat. I like them both. I like most of the IDW characters.

O: They’re very, very good.

S: Mm-hmm. Favorite series: IDW G1, especially phase two. My favorites are Lost Light and More Than Meets The Eye. I still have a really soft spot for the original G1 comics, cuz they’re the first things that I read.

O: That makes sense.

S: Mm-hmm. And so, let’s - let’s go over to Owls.

O: Hi! My name is Owls. Uh, so in contrast to my friend, I’ve been in the fandom for three months, maybe. It all started a fateful day when I watched someone on YouTube talk about Beast Wars. I had the sneaking suspicion of I vaguely liked Beast Machine’s growing up? Didn’t remember anything else and thought, “Hey! I should watch Beast Wars!” This was my first mistake. At which point I, ah, messaged Specs and I was like, “Hey! You’ve got a copy of Beast Wars, right?”

S: Yep, mm-hmm.

O: And she did, and I watched it and then I rapidly ascended into Transformers madness. And I now lie at the bottom of a ravine getting buried by toys, comics, and various amounts of DVD’s.

S: Yep. Ones [Comics and DVD’s] that I’ve mostly lent you, but… [Laughter]

O: Mostly. I did buy Beast Machines, because she didn’t have it and I wanted to watch it and I have Opinions™. I have Opinions that I won’t get into right now. But I have opinions.

S: You also have Beast Wars.

O: I also bought Beast Wars, but that’s because it is my favorite Transformers thing. SO I’ve probably watched about six different animated series, uh, and the Bay movies and now I know enough to hate the Bay movies. Oh my god! I didn’t know before but now I do. [Laughter] Now I do.

S: Now you know the pain.

O: Now I do, yes. My desk is rapidly accumulating Transformers. Help.

S: [Laughter]

O: We’ve got Grumpy Desk Raptor, and we’ve got 99.9% Done-With-Your-Shit-Rodimus-Grandpa, and smaller, more murderous Desk Raptor. I’ll leave it you to figure out who those three are. [Laughter]

S: I like your desk raptors-

O: My desk-

S: and grumpy grandpa.

O: I-I-I collect grumpy, grumpy characters. This is going to become a theme. Ah, my favorite characters are Dinobot from Beast Wars, who is AWESOME! And I’m so mad he doesn’t show up in anything else! But I guess I should be happy he’s alive in the IDW comics and presumably in a good place?!

S: He’s in the Christmas ep- He’s in the Christmas episode, basically.

O: There’s an adorable panel, it is my life. Ahem. Anyway, so Dinobot from Beast Wars, Lost Light Megatron, which, if you’ve not read the comics, I won’t tell you we’re going to be spoiler free here, but I also don’t want to like be blatant about it so, he’s really well written and I really enjoy him and there’s a very, very obvious reason for that if you’ve read the comics. I also really like Transformers Prime Ratchet, who is just a serious Mood. Uh, he, y’know, is trying to do his job and then he’s like “What the hell are all these human children doing here? And you’re breaking my shit,” And honestly, that’s kind of how I feel most days if I’m around children, yeah.

S: And then he takes over their science projects, because of course he does.

O: Transformers Prime, though I love it, has some weird tonal issues.

S: It does.

O: We’ll get to that eventually.

S: [Softly] It does.

O: I-I feel like I have to do some honorable mentions for pretty much any version of Soundwave, Grimlock, and Starscream in existence. Except for Grimlock from Car Robots or the 2001 Robots in Disguise, because he doesn’t really act like Grimlock. Regardless, they’re all delightful and I love them. And that basically sums up the characters I like for G1 pretty well, which is Soundwave and Grimlock are probably my favorites. Uh, I also rather enjoy Perceptor and I enjoy Megatron for the pure, pure delightful camp factor. [Laughter] He has no redeeming qualities and I love him.

Both: [Laughter]

O: None. So obviously, I have been here for, oh, three months. I know nothing about fandom. I really wanted to do something to get involved, and was like, “Oh dear gog, I can’t draw robots, I don’t really think I feel competent enough to post fanfic,” and I thought, ‘By god , my executive function must surely be worth something.’ And then I decided to put together a podcast, because through the powers of organization, anything is possible.

S: It is, it is. [laughter]

O: And here we are. Through the power of organization. That being said, ah, with us doing this podcast we really wanted to try to put some emphasis on fanworks and fanart and so what we would like to do with the episodes we release is recommend a fanfic and maybe some fanart with our episodes because Specs has been in the fandom for so long she;s got this great stash of ~vintage~ transformers work. Not all of it we can share because some of it’s been taken down and we don’t want to post something without the original authors’ permission or it being posted somewhere, but basically we’re hoping we can give you some good fanfics to kinda go with the theme of the episode . The Mosley Review: Transformers: War for Cybertron: Kingdom

Wish fulfillment. That's what this entire trilogy has become for me. Siege showed the darkness and horrors of the war on Cybertron and Earthrise gave characters more depth character with their sacrifices and it was a great space adventure. This entry ties all of what made the first 2 entries great and delivered something that I've always wanted to see. The Autobots and Decepticons finally meeting their future counterparts the Maximals and Predacons. As a massive fan of 90's computer animated classic series Transformers: Beast Wars, I have waited for the moments that were alluded to finally come true. Time travel can be tricky and sometimes it doesn't mix well with certain franchises. It can become convoluted and too sprawling for its own good and that happens a few times in this finale. The action is great and the story is cool, but I felt there was a disconnection to the main plot somewhere in the middle. I did love that the story leans into a more spiritual direction when tackling the mythos behind the life force of the Allspark. This final chapter was truly something special and all the characters you knew and loved may have changed in this iteration, but a few stay consistent with their previous versions.

Jake Foushee once again delivers a great performance as Optimus Prime and I can't stress enough the amount of depth he brings to the character. This is the most emotional and very flawed version of Optimus I've ever seen. All the consequences of his actions meet up with him and it was really fun to see him navigate his present as he deals with his possible future. Joe Zieja was awesome yet again as Bumblebee and he continues to be a strong companion and sometimes a better leader than Optimus. Bill Rogers still nails it as Wheeljack and I loved his jabs and sly comments about the battles in the series. Linsay Rousseau returns as Elita-1 and she has one of the most powerful and heartbreaking moments of the season. The Maximals are introduced in this chapter and growing up with the original voice cast, it was very jarring to not hear them or their cadence with each other. I also felt most of them weren't really handled well. Justin Luther did a good job as Optimus Primal, but from the beginning I felt he didn't understand the commanding presence needed for the character. His characterization of him was really off in the beginning and lacked that same gravitas. As the chapter progresses he gets better, but not to the full potential what could've been. Joe Hernandez was good as Cheetor and I think he got the hot shot personality of the character just right. Frank Todaro did well as one of my favorites Rattrap. He was a little under used for me and I would've loved to see him trade wise cracks with Bumblebee or Cheetor more. Andy Bernett was perfect as Rhinox. He nailed the tech savy and wisdom of the character. Erin Ebers was excellent as Airazor and she stole a great deal of the show with a great arc.

Jason Marnocha was excellent once again as Megatron and I liked that his obsession with the future has really pushed him over the edge. Jason's portrayal of Galvetron was even more sinister and sometimes sadistic as you feel his desperation to be free of his master Unicron. The 2 of them together were excellent and offer up some great insight into the idea of knowing too much about your own future. Jonathan Lipow was perfectly menacing and terrifying as the ever present entity Unicron. You are in constant fear once he's on screen and I loved his soft and dark tone. Frank Todaro was excellent again as the conniving weasel Starscream. This time he actually has an important purpose instead of betraying everyone. Marqus Bobesich was good as a sort of younger interpretation of the Predacon Megatron, but I hated that he was such a slave to the original. He has some great moments of action, but I would've liked to have seen more of the conflict between him and Primal. Jeanne Carr was perfectly devious and creepy as Blackarachnia. She always has a back up plan and I liked the chemistry she had with Airazor. The one character that I hoped would steal the show like he did in the past, does that once again. Krizz Kaliko was perfect as Dinobot and he is every bit the warrior he deserved to be. I loved that we get an emotional depth to his warrior spirit.

The score by series composer Alexander Bornstein was excellent once again as the mix of orchestral and technical synth is brilliantly placed throughout the season. The biggest problems I felt with this chapter in particular were the Maximals and Predacons themselves. They added to the story and overall arc of the series, but they seemed misunderstood and sometimes miss cast. The story gets a little too big for what they were trying to achieve in 6 episodes and it felt rushed towards the end as they threw as much as they could at the screen. This was a good final chapter that could've been great and as a trilogy, this is still one of the best iterations of the Transformers lore I've ever seen. I definitely recommend this trilogy to all fans that have been waiting for a darker, edgier and sometimes grounded story. The entire Netflix Original trilogy is now streaming. Dude. Not only do I love talking about myself, I ESPECIALLY love talking about my writing, so fuck yeah I’ll answer them all.1: When did you start writing?I distinctly remember writing stories as early as age 7 (I loved creative writing in school so much) but I can’t recall if I ever wrote anything outside of school projects, so I’m not sure that counts. I DO remember writing stuff for fun when I was 12.2: How many different fandoms have you written for?That I can remember? Just three. The first being Warrior Cats, then My Little Pony (though it was very few), but the only one I’ve written fanfiction for that I’ve actually posted online is for Transformers.3: If applicable, do you think your writing has improved a lot or a little since you first started writing?Oh, definitely. Both in general and since I started posting my fics online. I have an old FF account (good luck finding me :P) with very disjointed stories full of plot holes, and even my early stuff on AO3 seems really bad to me now.4: What was the first fic you wrote?The first fic I can remember writing was a Warrior Cats thing full of my own OC’s that I had my mother edit (YEAH, I SHOWED MY MOM MY SHITTY FANFICTION) and I even had it printed and like professionally bound with those round plastic edged things people use for reports and whatnot. Tbh, I miss being so unbashedly proud of my writing. I would let other people read and edit it, trying to improve. Of course, I’m not going to show my mom my fics where Megatron and Rodimus bork but I can’t even bear to be in the same room as someone reading my fics without feeling like I’m going to DIE even if they’re doing nothing but praising me.5: What is your favorite fic you have written?Honestly? Two Factions. There’s just something really freeing about writing some so self-indulgent and grandiose. I also really enjoy the world-building aspect and taking a different approach to how becoming a Prime works. Plus, I get to make Megatron say really gay things and make everyone use SWORDS. It’s also fun to re-imagine a familiar work through new characters and a new setting (I started pretty close to the original Romeo and Juliet but the end is quite different, in my opinion).What really stands out for this fic, though, is that I have @justroddythings beta’ing everything and I wrote and edited a bunch of chapters before I started posting so I had the liberty to change things I didn’t like without disrupting the canon I’d already made (and fix any continuity errors.... like where I had a character bust his sword and then he inexplicably had it two chapters later [it’s because the scene from that chapter was one of the first I’d written, but I still gotta fix it]). 6: Which character of yours has been your favorite to write?It’s a toss-up between Rodimus and Starscream. They’re quite similar in their “put on this personality” while being miserable on the inside. It leads to fun and snarky scenes that can dissolve into breakdowns where they need to be comforted (which is when I throw their love interest in). But man... writing these two together is equally fun and intimidating, but I love writing them as mutual supports for each other. Whether that means one is more stable and supporting the other, or both of them are breaking down but can offer the other things like “I understand, and you’re going to be okay” and that let’s THEM know that they’re going to be okay.7: Which character of yours do you most identify with (if any)?Probably Rodimus, but there’s some strong sprinklings of Megatron in there, too. Which is one of the reasons I love writing megarod so much. 8: Which character of yours do you find the hardest to write?Well, I don’t branch out as much as I’d like so mostly any character I haven’t written. If I had to pick one from fics I’ve already written, then Wheeljack, because I haven’t read too many comics with him in it but I’m so thirsty for starjack that I will attempt it anyways.9: If any, what music/artists do you like to listen to while writing?I find sad Maroon 5 songs to be really good background noise, but I usually just listen to whatever I currently am listening to on my ipod.10: Do you ever put any of your own traits or personality into any of your characters? Which?I do with Rodimus a lot, usually just little habits or w/e. I like to HC he picks at his paint like I pick at my skin (as a nervous habit and just a bad habit in general). BUT in “I Promise You” (which idk if I’ll ever finish, but I hate the title and should have thought more about it before I posted it) I basically put all of my fears and insecurities into Skywarp. He was a very cathartic character to write and writing his suicidal thoughts or w/e really helped me work through my own (especially when he had someone there to hold him and tell him what *I* feel like I needed to hear).11: If you could take one character from your fic and put it with another character in another one of your fics, who would you want to see together?Uhhhh I got nothing because if I wanted to do it I would just do it.12: Which do you prefer writing most, description, dialogue, or actions?I used to write really detailed descriptions but somewhere along the line I set out to improve my dialogue and now I prefer writing that (sometimes, esp. if I’m stuck, I just write what I want them to say and fill in the rest later). I hate writing actions a lot because I see in my head the movement I want them to make but idk how the FUCK to put it into words. What Ratchet is doing in the second panel here in particular eludes me and if anyone could tell me how the fuck to describe this I would love you forever.13: If you could base one of your fics in a different location than where it is currently, where would you like it to be?Well tbh I never know how to describe the “wilderness” on Cybertron because it’s.... its all metal can I even call these things rocks??? So I guess a really lame answer to this is to set all of them on Earth so I can say there are trees and rocks and shit but Earth also sucks so *shrug*.14: Which of your fics would you like to see turned into a movie the most?Either Two Factions or Behind Closed Doors, which, when you look at them, are pretty similar stories XD15: Which of your characters do you think you would be most friendly with?I’d say Rodimus, Swerve, and Tailgate. I wanna flop over Swerve and watch Earth TV with him.16: Are there any ideas you are currently playing around with that you would like to write sooner or later?I have started writing two multi-chapter megarod fics (one being a soulmate and reincarnation fic, the other a heatfic) but I want to finish my other ongoings (at least my megarod ones) before I denote any real time to them.17: Favorite fic that is not written by you?Hmmm that`s a tough one. On the one hand, I don`t read as much fanfiction as I’d like to (I’m trying to rectify that) and on the other hand I love different fics for different reasons so I couldn’t just pick one. This is a cop-out answer but I’m sticking to it.18: Have you ever written a personal experience into your fic?Oh, all the time. Like I said with Skywarp before and I’ve written some self-insert things where I essentially was adopted by Rodimus and Megatron that will never see the light of day lol.19: Who has been your favorite face claim to use?So I google what “face claim” means and I still don’t understand.20: Lastly, take your favorite character from any of your fics and tell us 3 things you like about him/her and 3 things you dislike.Bluh this is too much work.
