Regain Mobility in Your Home: 5 Ways a Home Wheelchair Lifts Can Benefit
With high rises and multistoried buildings being the norm, the importance of home lifts for elderly has increased all the same. While many see it as a way of improved access and movement, today we shall highlight exactly how these lifts perpetuate independence at homes, especially that of old people and the PwDs.
BY INCREASING ONE’S MOBILITY
Perhaps the most visible way in which lifts ensure renewed independence at home for patients and elders. Having a lift at home makes access to different rooms and floors easier, which in turn improves the mobility of the people using the home elevator.
When it comes to the old members or PwDs, wheelchair elevators ensure that they no longer have to take the help of someone else while moving around the house. With just the push of a button, they can access the terrace, their bedroom etc.
BY DECREASING THE DEPENDENCE ON STAIRS
The major compromise old people and PwDs need to make is shifting their belongings to the ground floor. Often people shift to single-story places in order to eliminate the inconvenience of climbing stairs and if not, the dependents are well, dependent on the other members to help them up the stairs.
A wheelchair friendly lift eliminates the need of such compromises by providing an easy alternative to stairs. Now, old people and PwDs can easily move up and down the house without needing to bother anybody as now they’re no more dependent on stairs.
BY ITS EASY HANDLING
Lifts and elevators are often associated with a huge number of buttons and complex mechanics. Wheelchair lifts or cabin lifts however are extremely user-friendly. These have an easy control panel with minimal buttons and thus can be accessed by people of all ages. In fact, wheelchair elevator controls are disabled-friendly as well. Thus, the dependents do not require the assistance of anybody to operate these lifts, ensuring renewed independence at home.
BY ENSURING SAFETY
If you talk about famous brands like Cibes, Kalea, Stannah or Handicare, their wheelchair friendly lifts are low speed. Additionally, majority lifts do not use hydraulics and instead have easier self-contained mechanisms, which reduces the chances of mishaps and accidents. In case any inconvenience is felt, wheelchair friendly lifts come with an intercom and emergency buttons as well. In fact, many have “safety edges” that are designed to prevent sort of mishap in the lift.
BY ENSURING COMFORT
What’s the point of a residential lift if you have to struggle every time you access it? That’s why, these come with utmost space, proper ventilation, and often with all glass panels so that you don’t feel claustrophobic inside. With many brands like Cibes Lifts offering customizable interiors, coupled with the above points of safety and ease, people won’t have a problem using it. Therefore, a comfortable lift promotes more trust and thus, more independent usage.
Cibes Lifts is one of the Best Elevator Company in the Philippines that specializes in state-of-the-art cabin lifts, wheelchair lifts and vertical platform lift for residential and commercial buildings. These lifts are designed and engineered in Sweden, with a wide distribution network spanning across 50 countries. How To Choose The Best Wheelchair Lifts For Your Loved Ones
Modern technology has made homes more accessible for people with mobility issues. It has helped them navigate different areas of the home easily without depending on others for help. The development of new technology such as wheelchair lift has provided greater benefits to individuals who are disabled. A wheelchair lift is a device designed to lift a wheelchair and its occupant across a barrier or stairs. It is often installed in homes and organizations for people with disabilities to meet the accessibility requirement given by disability acts. More so, it helps people move up the stairs without the need to get out of the wheelchair. While traveling, wheelchair lifts allow users to access both seats and high space comfortably. Furthermore, the disability act stated that all new mass transit vehicles must be accessible to people using a wheelchair. Therefore, wheelchair lifts will now be installed in many transit buses. Now, many countries have started regulating the use of wheelchair lifts. The government is even supporting maintenance, repair, and replacement of wheelchair lifts available on trains and buses. A wheelchair lift is the safest and most convenient ways to move someone with a mobility disability to different locations and buildings. The lifts are designed in different sizes, styles, and shapes to suit the individual. While some are used to carry the wheelchair alone, others are used to transport the occupant after they are placed on the wheelchair with the help of a host. Hence, before thinking about purchasing any kind of wheelchair lift, you should understand how it works, in order to choose the perfect one for your home and to keep yourself safe at all times.
TYPES OF WHEELCHAIR LIFT
Before choosing your wheelchair lift, it is important to decide on the type of lift you want. The inclined lift is very convenient as well as safe. It is used to move both the wheelchair and its occupant up and down the stairs. It can also be attached to the wall of the stairs with the help of a metal track. The vertical lift is often installed in front of the house for better mobility in and out of the building. It often requires more space and a hoist or concrete pad to hold it. Both devices offer better access for wheelchair occupants to move around their home.
PICK A GOOD LOCATION
The first step to consider when you want to install a wheelchair lift in your home is the location. The lift should be a place that a wheelchair user might find difficulty maneuvering. The lift must be placed in a smooth, accessible, and perfectly leveled climbing space. Also, the landing area must be well structured and there should be no gap between the traveling wall. It is also best to research choose the best company to install your wheelchair lift beforehand because your safety is essential.
CONSIDER THE HEIGHT OF YOUR CEILING
Before getting a wheelchair lift, it is crucial to consider the height of your ceiling and building especially when you are choosing the vertical wheelchair lift. If your ceiling is low, the vertical lift might look too big and vice versa. To get the appropriate lift, you need to measure the height from the ground floor to the landing floor. This will determine the height of the lift you will purchase. Also, make sure you choose a lift that has the maximum travel height. More so, pick the one that can fit the available space on your building.
THE FLOOR SPACE
It is important to consider your floor space before purchasing a wheelchair lift. The inclined lift does not require a lot of space for installation as it can be easily attached to the wall of the stairs. This makes it great for homes that lack space. Vertical lift on the other hand, requires a larger space, as it is usually installed at the door or other places in the house. Also, you can check out small lift models if your home lacks the space needed for the larger models.
CHECK THE SAFETY FEATURES ON THE LIFT
Check out the safety features on the lift before buying it. While some are easy to use and control, others can be very complicated. Make sure the model you choose has safety features like an emergency brake system, audio alarm, obstruction sensor, and many more. This is very important for user safety.
THE COST OF INSTALLATION
The price and cost of installation of a wheelchair lift varies and depends greatly on the features, size, shape, model, safety measures, and many more. Before making a purchase, it is essential to compare the price structure with other models and choose the one that matches your requirement.

Home Elevators- Book Your Site Visit
Disclaimer: During the site visit, our sales staff and installation team wear masks when inside your home and take safety precautions very seriously.
The site investigation is as important as it is for other trades like for roof inspectors or your plumber. You cannot accurately fix the price until the plumber visits and identifies the problem or a home renovator/painter who must visit your home to know that the materials and quantities arrived in the correct ratio as included in the plan. Although these providers can surely tell their customers the home lift cost, still they have to visit the site to give you exact quotes and make you understand the details of the process and final price.
It is quite the same with home elevators, commercial lifts, wheelchair lifts or any other mobility solutions. Their installation requires a complex assembling of the parts or may / may not require construction. While we in the residential elevator industry too can give you a range of prices but to tell you the exact one, we require visiting and inspecting the site. And this requires an in-home visit.

We would take details from you regarding your current need and what it may be in future. The number of people in the household who would be using the lift, their age or any medical conditions. The frequency of visitors and lift usage.
Evaluation of home interior and exterior structure would be carried to look for the elevator installation location and challenges.
We will discuss with you the options that will fit in your home like the type or model of elevator, the best location to install it, if it requires retrofit- how much modification home would require.
Additional materials that would be required to be procured and installed for the elevator. This will surely affect the final pricing.
The different customization options that will look great in your home.
After the visit, we would email you the proposal which would include the residential lift options, planning and design, purchase and installation including the electrical fittings, framing, elevator permits e and maintenance plan etc.

Chase down your passion like it’s the last bus of the night! 🚌
“One of the most impressive things I’ve found during our trip around the US has been the consistent implementation of the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act), particularly when it comes to buses. Back in London, I am refused access to buses on a regular basis; either the bus has a pushchair taking up the wheelchair space, or the ramp is broken. Sometimes, the driver simply can't be bothered to get the ramp out. Discrimination on public transport is something I've just come to accept. In many, many other parts of the U.K., wheelchair users simply cannot use buses at all. This video was filmed in Lake Tahoe, a small, rural, sparsely-populated 'city' on the border between Nevada and California. None of the bus drivers we met had needed to operate the wheelchair lift before, but the lift was still installed and functioning, ready and waiting for someone like me. As with every other bus we've used in the US, there were not one but two designated wheelchair spaces onboard - plenty of space for other wheelchair users, or pushchairs. I can't express what a relief it is to wait at a bus stop knowing you won't have to fight to get on; knowing the driver both can and will help you board. (Of course, when we got to our destination, the Tahoe Mountain Brewing Company, they had access too. Because everyone does.)” - @abbisigns
