My most slice-of-life* WIP is (what's supposed to be) this preboot one-shot with established!Jaytim and past!Jayroy where Tim and Roy somehow end up teaming up, bonding about Jason, and this leads to Jason and Roy reconnecting as friends. Because I want my favourite guy to have good things once in a while, amidst all the dying and suffering and brainwashing and and and several other ordeals I put him through in other stories xD. I've shared earlier versions of this excerpt on DMs and I thought I might as well put it here. Under the cut, because it gets a bit long.

“I bet you two talked about me,” Jason teased him.

Tim, distractedly setting the table, hummed in confirmation.

“Oh?”

Tim zeroid in on that little sound; on the almost too long pause preceding it. “All good things,” he reassured him, smiling.

Jason’s face remained carefully, uncharacteristically neutral; in someone naturally so expressive, Tim had learned to interpret that as a sign of deep inner turmoil.

“Seriously, Jason,” he added, trying to impress weight on every single syllable, “Roy thinks the world of you.”

Although Jason’s shoulders relaxed, Tim could tell that his mind wasn’t in the room with them, not wholly, for the duration of their dinner.

Later, when Jason, even silent and pensive as he was, maintained the routine of keeping him company while he insisted on doing the dishes, guest or not, as it'd been Jason's turn to cook, Tim took a deep breath and told him: “You could call him.”

“You want me to reconnect with my ex?” Jason asked, words dripping skepticism.

The truth was that, initially, Tim had briefly entertained the idea of saying the same thing to Roy, imagining he'd be less likely than Jason to overthink it and take a first step that'd Jason have to react to. Old habits died hard, but the few conversations about what Jason had to say about Tim's mediation and meddling and busybody tendencies did their work.

The reason why the idea came to Tim at all was that after just a few hours with the man, it was plain to see that Roy, even if they hadn’t actually spoken in a couple of years, was someone who could be counted on to be in Jason’s corner.

Tim still remembered the first time he spoke with Talia after he started dating Jason. It couldn’t be called a shovel talk; Tim had been the target of one or two of those, and they all dripped paternalism, condescendence, and a lack of respect for the boundaries of the person they were supposed to shield. Talia clearly respected Jason’s choice –she, simply, didn’t think much of Tim, on his own. But although she didn’t have the warmest way to show it, Jason was one of her favourite people in the world, and if that was the close he'd get to a shovel talk on his behalf, it was the first one Tim was happy to receive.

It was also in stark contrast to Bruce’s reaction when Tim told him. He’d bypassed all the arguments about why Jason would be bad for Tim, maybe presuming someone else had already failed to convey them, and instead spoke of all the ways Jason wasn’t mentally capable of handling a relationship, and of all the ways Tim would set him back once their relationship inevitably went down in flames. Tim had gone cold, utterly furious, and warned Bruce off repeating those words aloud anywhere Jason could hear them.

Roy, albeit cordial and warm in comparison, had landed on the Talia-est end of the spectrum. He'd clearly taken the mission as an opportunity to suss Tim out, proding to see if he was good to Jason, and showing at every turn that he knew well the value of what Tim had with him. It was a novelty in his circle.

To sum it up: Tim would welcome in anyone who was on Jason’s side, truly on Jason’s side, no matter what they thought of Tim’s presence in his life or how it could affect him. And Roy seemed to fit the criteria.

“If you think that’s something you’d like to do, then yes: I want you to reconnect with your ex,” he parroted.

Hate when people claim to make fan content of batfam but don’t include Duke and/or Cass. If you dont know them,read the comics???am i saying i have read wvery batfam comic? Hell no,idgaf about jason and lowkey nightwing too,but that’s because i don’t necessarily write or draw batfam/wayne fam content, however if i did,i would do them justice and research and read at least their origin/solo comics and of course include ALL MEMBERS??

And no,Duke is not new,that is not an excuse at all, hell i would say excluding Jason would be more logical than excluding Duke or Cass. Like you dont have to read every batfam member comixs of course,but if you claim to make a full batfam or wayne fam content and not include Duke or Cass,it just might be because of racism and/or ableism+misogyny, or the fact they’re not really given their fanon stuff much(for better or for worse i dont know)Like Cass is just “girlboss” or/and the sweetest character ever (news flash treating female characters with just giving them girlboss title and not make them deeper or more complex is still underdevelopinh them and is misogyny)Duke isn’t really given fanon characterization except “sane and naive” which is??? What

But when looking at the said “batfam” content im actually glad they arent there because most of it is just fanon or mischaracterization,dont even get me started on Talia still being framed as a rapist in 2024 when it was already retconed,racist and lazy writing and writer(Grant Morrison*) himself apologized and admitted to not reading og talia/brutalia comics…. And not only that,but sometimes she and other batkids’ non-Bruce parents are just straight up villainised,(except for canonical villain parents or just abusive(not dysfunctional) parents like Cass’ dad,Jason’s dad and his mom who got him to joker,Steph’s dad etc) am i saying that most of them are perfect?No. but theyre more deeper and complex than just abusive, batfam fans love to say that they love complex characters but cant even handle drake parents smh..

Damian is sent to Gotham and is one day like btw I have some sisters and Bruce is like..... "Are They Mine" (Wait I Might Have Girls 🥺) (secret girldad Bruce for the win) and Damian is like.... Jane will be displeased if I say anything.... but I think Athanasia biologically is Father's..... but I don't want to lie..... hmmm...... "idk anyway look at the time doot di doot...."

Talia doesn't pick up when Bruce calls she's just like "girls go check if it's anything important or if he's just having a meltdown"

So now 2 sisters start popping up around more often to keep and eye out and check on Damian and one is super tall and buff and the other is much shorter and slighter but they call themselves twins even if short one says she's older and tall one is like "barely!! it doesn't count!!" which honestly yea they're sisters alright

That's how Black Swan and White Dove come to be known, Black Swan is quiet and seemingly ambivalent about the bats but White Dove sounds like she's about to beat the shit out of Batman and to a lesser degree Nightwing and seems vaguely displeased being around Tim's Robin but is cool with Spoiler/Batgirl (esp since she's gotten close to Black Swan and treats her well) and distantly polite to young Duke the very few times they meet

Btw Damian calls her Jane but her full name is Catherine Jane Columba (Mom's name + Jane Austen + Mom's hc maiden name) and she uses Jane with league sibs but CJ in general for everyone else

Anyway I imagine that Cass and Jane start hanging around more and are eventually considered neutral to friendly extension of batfam via Damian (and Athanasia and Mara when they're sent over) (Athanasia is sweet if a lil awkward and much younger than everyone else, Mara is very "You're Not My Dad just a sort of step uncle at best" but Bruce is like "omg,,, daughters,,,,")

Cass might even eventually come over for dinner or smth maybe as Steph's plus one and Dick would be like "omg I am going to big brother you so hard" and Bruce is like "are you sure you don't want to be my daughter" and Tim is trying to figure out if he can do his stalking out of affection and respect thing without getting his butt kicked and the Al Ghul kids are being absolute demons fighting for Cass' attention and trying to find out what Jane is upto

The Jane identity reveal can be totally anticlimactic (Damian says Jane wants to meet them and then at a scheduled dinnerthey meet a buff tall older female lookalike of the dead second Robin and they think "omg 😱 surprise older Todd sister no one knew about??" and Jane doesn't let anyone say anything bc she wants to see how long this lasts)

Or maybe there's some big fight or whatever or fear toxin is involved and a league sib is hurt and Jane unmasks to comfort and tend to them and Bruce or Dick (or even Alfred!) see her face and have a bit of an aneurysm and Jane's too distracted with big sister-ing to be too explicitly angry with the bats at the moment but makes a snappy remark or smth that gives her away ("miss me old man" /sarcastic and /derogatory if it's Bruce)

And uh yea anyway don't take this too seriously I'm half delirious and keep dissociating in turns and I just wanted an excuse for transfem Jason and ended up really loving CJ/Jane

had another tlou talk with my sister and I have SO MANY thoughts :))

this is mainly just season 2 thoughts cause I'm getting to the end of the gameplay and I have thoughts about it for the show! cause we live in fear and excitement for season 2, so here are our thoughts!

are they gonna split the season in half? cause I think it would Too much to keep going back and forth between Abby and Ellie's perspectives since both of them have so much story to their respective parts

HBO has done like 20 episodes? for seasons before, right? maybe? if so, make it 18 episodes. maybe 8 per person. the first episode maybe starts off of like it does in the game, have both perspectives then The Thing to finish it off and leave us suffering for a week. and then the last episode be dedicated to Ellie on the farm and that cutscene :(

OR go through and still split the season, but start off with Abby. let us know who she is before you kill Joel. it would be a smoother transition from season 1 to 2, I think. just start the episode with the flashback of That, then give us the 2 perspectives and That Other Scene

I would say go through and do Abby first, then Ellie, but it would make everyone hate Ellie cause of what she did in her grief, but it could still be good. that way we know who everyone is, but you could still keep it a surprise and do Ellie first. I do not know, but I like the idea of having Abby first, that way we know who she is and why she did what she did

speaking of That scene, give us more of the after. there's concept art of Dina and Jesse finding Joel and Ellie in that basement. it would destroy us all, but I think it would be bittersweet? to have that scene. but also to keep it private, cause they did it for Riley and Bill and Frank

going off the last point, give us more after Abby found Ellie in the theater. what happened? no one was in the best shape. did Dina have to rip an arrow out of herself, then go help Ellie up and then do the same for Tommy? did Ellie crawl to Dina to help her? what happened, who helped them??? cause no one in Jackson knows where they are, other than Maria, but she doesn't know the specifics and there's no implication that she even went to Seattle. so who helped them?? how did they all, minus Jesse, survive that attack?

I think those are all the plot points, so onto the additional stories!

expand more on Dina PLEASE. she talked a bit about her time on the road with Talia, but you can give us more for sure! if you were able to give us an hour long 10K self insert fic for Bill and Frank, you can give us more on Dina (please please please I love her so much). maybe also her pregnancy? cause she had it so rough in the beginning, did it get any easier? at least maybe her and Ellie moving out of Jackson

I think these were all the thoughts! if not, I will add more later :) we live in constant fear for season 2, so I figured I'd share some of the loose brain thoughts. I'm just REALLY curious as to how they're gonna film this season. I think Craig or Neil said season 3 might be unlikely? it was a while ago, so I am RIDING on the fact it's all gonna be in one season. I don't think they should go back and forth between Abby and Ellie's perspectives, though, cause I think it would be too confusing. unless they can find a way to do it? I don't know, I guess we shall find out

chapter two | aria beck

[wednesday april 17, 2019]

“It’s like eleven thirty Tal, where are you?” she mumbled to herself.

Aria was concerned for her friend, who had stormed out of the dorm after tossing her textbook and the stack of notes off her desk without saying a word. She had pulled an earbud from her ear and asked her what was wrong, to which Talia only shook her head.

“Tal, where are you going? It’s almost eleven.” Aria had asked, watching her roommate shrug on her coat as she slid into her shoes.

“I’ll be back soon.” Talia replied, slamming the door behind her. She would usually be fine with Talia’s late-night walks, but she didn’t want her friend walking around upset and distracted, especially at nearly midnight.

“If she doesn’t answer her phone…” Aria trailed off, holding her phone to her ear and listening to it ring for what felt like the hundredth time that night. She pursed her lips when Talia’s voicemail played over again. This time Aria didn’t even bother leaving a message, she hung up and stuffed her phone back into her purse and started walking down the street. She tried to think of anywhere her friend could be, racking her brain for any ideas.

The sound of a taxi splashing through a puddle drew Aria’s attention. On top of the vehicle, there was an ad for the New York City Planetarium, open until 1 am Mondays and Wednesdays.

Aria perked up.

“Taxi!” She called, raising her hand in the air. A cab pulled up to the curb and Aria climbed into the back seat, the feel of torn leather and duct tape poking at her, “The planetarium, please.” the driver nodded and began the drive, the lights of the city melding together with the motion of the vehicle.

A ring interrupted the otherwise quiet ride. Aria fumbled for her phone, hoping it was Talia who was calling.

She frowned a little bit when she realized it was Delilah, her and Talia’s third roommate, who was calling.

“Ar, where are you? And where’s Talia? I got back to the dorm and nobody was home.”

“I’m in a cab right now, on my way to the planetarium, I think Talia is there.”

Aria could hear Delilah fumbling around on the other end of the line. “Why is she there? It's like eleven-thirty. And doesn’t she have a paper due soon?”

Aria sighed and rolled her head back against the headrest. “Yeah, but I have to bring her home. You and I both know that if I don’t bring her back she’ll be out all night and will either be sleep-deprived, more so than she usually is, or she'll be dead because she left her pepper spray on the kitchen counter.”

She heard Delilah pick up and put down a metal canister.

“Yup, it’s here.” Delilah said. “Okay, well good luck, I'm gonna get ready for bed, Dylan’s party wore me out. Don’t get jumped. Love you.”

“Love you too D. Set your alarm please. I am not waking you up again tomorrow morning when I get back from Shakespeare and Law.” Aria told her friend strictly.

“Okay, mom. I didn’t realize you were becoming Odelle.” Aria could hear the eye roll in Delilah’s voice.

“Thank you.” She smiled at the driver and handed him a $10 as the taxi came to a halt before she stepped out onto the steps of the planetarium.

“D, I just don’t want to wake you up when I get home, I want to take a nap.” Aria smirked, advancing up the steps to the door.

“Alright, I’m leaving now, love you, Ari.” Delilah said sweetly as if to tease her.

“Bye D.”

Aria opened the door, just enough to fit her small body through and slipped inside. She walked up to one of the many maps of the planetarium. scanning over the map for the solar system room, she tapped her chin out of complete confusion. All the colors and paths displayed on the bright screen only baffling her further. “Damnit, I should pay more attention to where she takes me when we come here.” She whispered to herself.

The sound of heavy boots on the granite floor made Aria lift her head. A security guard was pacing the front entrance. Aria swiftly walked over to him, giving him a sweet and gentle smile.

“Excuse me, could you point me in the direction of the solar system room?” She asked, clutching her bag to her side.

The guard smiled back. “Yes of course, just go down that hallway then take a left directly after the third showroom.” He said, pointing down a hall.

“Thank you so much.” Aria quickly made her way down the hall, counting the showrooms.

“Three!” Aria turned left and saw a big sign that said ‘Solar Systems.’ She entered the room, her eyes having to adjust to light, which was slightly dimmer than it had been in the hall.

She scanned the large room, her gaze landing on two people standing next to one of the displays.

Instantly, she recognized Talia’s dark brown curls standing next to a guy. He was tall and had a pink beanie covering most of his blond hair.

Aria smirked to herself, making sure she was quiet as she neared the pair.

Once she was a few steps away, she began to speak.

“Hey Tal, if you were sneaking off to meet your boyfriend, you could have told me, no need to leave me worried.”

Talia spun around, Daniel leaning over slightly to see who had spoken up past Talia’s shoulder.

- loved or thought they loved the color pink Wholeheartedly

- cats made Everything better, thought they might be part cat and loved to imagine that they were because they grew up around cats

- i legit don't know how no one thought "hm, something is Off with this one" but no one picked up on them being Different other than the kids smh so i got picked on a bit

- sisters kept asking if they were gay because they had a fixation on katy perry's "i kissed a girl". did not quite know what being gay was.

- put into a gifted program, got confused, never showed up to classes unless the teacher showed up to get them but thinking back was probably supposed to just leave

- emotionally invested in binging animal planet docuseries'

- wants to be a vet when they grow up

- lots of really Weird ideas that thinking back on now just resulted in spending time alone and thinking or playing alone

- melodramatic as fuck, i would not be friends with them now if i knew them

- lots of pushing people away and isolating from friends in fear of making things worse for them having to see me emotionally compromised in any way

- lots of having to talk people down because they managed to make friends with probably over half of the school's Depressed Children population and had even more online

- successfully transed their gender... mostly. almost 2 years on t. will probably never be out as nonbinary to most family. but at least they have a mullet-in-progress

- somewhat learned how to say no and stand up for themself and has removed toxic people from their life successfully :))

- actually has some semblance of confidence!!! you go bitch!!! comfortable in their body after t once they realized their remaining dysphoria was almost strictly social

- emotionally good but physically and mentally running on fumes and fixations

- has come to realize that they probably have undiagnosed adhd and that their therapist needs to get bent because he keeps telling them "no" and then after they talk to him about it he goes "ok maybe..." with no real answer, thanks roger 💕

- overly friendly???? just wants to make people smile and this time knows that if they don't that it's okay because at least they got to smile about it

ok @tempoaryblogformightyjensblog wanted to know, so

essentially 'the adventures continue' took the "Jason was the bad Robin" idea that was somewhat popularized after his OG comic death and RAN with it

forget about meeting while stealing the tires off the batmobile -this Jason was a kid who tracked down the gang that got his brother killed and was, presumably, going to kill them if that gun ^ was any indication. alfred describes him as being brought in 'too early' and almost being 'obsessed' with heroes. and when he finally went out in costume he was always being too violent and flaunting batman's rules.

now if you've read any of Jason's original robin run, that was NOT the case. sure he pushed back on batman's word, as all Robins do, but he was a literature nerd who, when visiting the titans, would volunteer to stay behind while they went off on missions so he could finish his homework. the felipe gonzales 'pushed off the balcony' thing, people forget, was because that guy had done horrible things to his victims, not because Jason was a murderous kid

in this comic though, Jason is out of control with this ^ idea while being Robin -which leads to him and Bruce having a major fight about it, Jason leaving to go fight crime on his own very violently (apparently he went after Croc on his own and just bodied the dude at fourteen smh), which leads to perhaps the worst change.

Joker captures him -in most of the original comics his motivation is both 'fuck with Batman' and 'this kid isn't Dick so he doesn't measure up' -now, i don't know if you can see what Joker says up there ^^ but its "he won't stop until he's killed every one of us"

excuse me, are the writers trying to make us sympathize with Joker? Joker?? not the worst part, because instead of Jason tragically not being saved because Batman doesn't get there in time before the explosion (bc the kid had been trying to save his bio mom, but ofc she's not in this) -here they've changed it to Bruce gets him out, gets Joker out, and after a weird speech about brothers Jason is just so focused on killing villains that he intentionally blows himself up to try and prevent Batman from saving Joker.

i'm not one to advocate for saving Joker, i hate the character. but this is all way more how Jason acted and was motivated as Red Hood, y'know, after dying and being trained by Talia was what changed him from an idealistic kid. no, though, here Jason was just always ready to murder from the start.

so i'm running out of steam, but the confrontation later between Jason and Bruce once he comes back as Red Hood is also made more complicated than it should have been. Jason attacked Alfred, there's a weird robot, Tim gets stuck in a tank of water, and all the emotion that could have salvaged that trainwreck of a backstory is thrown out the window when Bruce says this;

even Joker is like 'damn man you said that right now to your own former Robin? i thought you were all about compassion for the criminal element', and for once I agree. its weird at best -but then, the writers set themselves up for a Batman who really didn't seem like he ever thought of Jason as his child like he did in the OG comics, and a Jason who's motivation falls flat because he wasn't a sweet kid changed by horrible violence, he's just always been fucking crazy. Jason ends up choosing to fall into the ocean because Bruce 'never knows when to give up on him' and he's saved by Deathstroke of all people, and that's the end

it's such a shame! they had such a good character design for him, and with episodes under their belt like 'Heart of Ice' and 'Harley's Holiday' they had proven they could make villainous origins and motivations compelling and sympathetic. and Jason's story has so much potential for that, and its one of the biggest tragedies in Batman's history. that he couldn't save his son, that the kid who wanted to help so badly came back because he felt betrayed and wanted to show the faults of Batman's methods, and that they couldn't reconcile their differences in the end. but instead, they did this. i'm disappointed.

never understood "only masochists want more of their favourite media made" until i read the comic continuation of Batman the Animated Series and saw what they did to Jason

5x16. Late.

Sorry I was gone so long, but Holy ******* shit. Something was keeping me from watching this episode. I was writing part 2 of my conversation between Oliver and Felicity when something just brought me to watch it. And wow. 

Checkmate.

This episode was a lot of things. Oliver being pushed to the brink, was just so crazy. It was just so unimaginable. When Oliver was in Pike’s room with him and he started to name all the people that died ever since he came back, Oliver was literally shuddering.

Adrian. (AKA Simon Morrison)

What the fuck. This game that he’s playing, is crippling. I’m just in awe of how he’s forcing Oliver to make moves. And all these moves, he knows what they are, and it’s not like he’s getting ready to defend against it. It’s more like he needs for them to happen. He has me shuddering in my seat too. SMH LEAVE MY BB ALONE. Seems like everyone has daddy issues these days.

Talia/More Adrian.

 What a bitch. I was just waiting for it. It was a little odd to find her picking a side because Oliver killed Ra’s (I mean come on Talia you left LOA to do all this shit and because you had disagreements with your Dad, but you get all protective when he’s dead. Even Nyssa knows how crazy he is. You’re a shame) But seriously this was probably the thing that was the most obvious (Aside from Adrian killing Doris. That was pretty obvious too. Well, I kinda thought he would run with her, but then when we got up to the part where she said turn yourself in, I was like oh my god. Never mind then. I was kind of on the edge of my seat for that one. The fact that Adrian did kill Doris actually made me sad. A lot of emotion in this episode. And A LOT of shuddering too. Wow. She was so sweet too. I was expecting Diggle to kidnap someone else to be honest. Because to me, they sorta made a big deal out of ‘oh I have someone he cares about’ but at the same time I was like who else do we even know about? He didn’t even say I love you before he stabbed her.) >_>.

Felicity.

This is a confusing one. She’s officially one with Helix. What I don’t like so far, is how she’s using it. I mean of course, its helping them find Prometheus so far, but I’m beginning to wonder when it’ll start becoming solo with her and Helix. But then again, what specifically is she looking for. She felt a little absent this episode (I’m only saying this solely because of screen time. Otherwise, she kind of was the whole backbone to this episode. Psh. She always is.). She helped the team find Susan, and now she’s eventually going to find Oliver (don’t even get me started on that trailer. I kind of died inside.). But is Adrian expecting her to find him? I never really though about this, but did Adrian set up the murder of Billy to get Felicity into Helix? Up until this point, I assumed that, but what if Adrian solely killed Billy just to get GA under fire at the Mayor’s office, and he didn’t really think about what Felicity would do. Maybe he doesn’t know about Helix. Maybe he doesn’t even know  All in all, to me, it feels like whatever Felicity has started hasn’t really like, geared up yet in a sense. I want to know how far she’s going to go to avenge Billy. Bottom line, I’m greedy.

Oliver. 

Oh. My. God. Oliver in this episode just felt like such a roller coaster. I can’t even talk about it right now. What is he going to do? And poo, I didn’t understand what Adrian said about Susan in the last scene. You convinced her to what? UGH I have a thing about Damsel in Distress tropes, but fuck Susan you were more useless than Laurel in Season 1 (woops). Still waiting to see how important of a puzzle piece she is, because right now, I just see a silly little pawn (ok forget what I just said about her). And I’m pretty sure I’m going to procrastinate about watching this Wednesday because of that trailer. I am definitely not ready to watch him like that. Don’t think I ever will be, but everyone’s gotten things they aren’t ready for, right? 

I feel like the synopsis for 5x17 purposely left out the part where it was supposed to say “Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) continues to turn to Helix to find Oliver”. I mean that was crap, but something like that would’ve been... reassuring.
