Yoga for Busy Professionals: Quick Routines to Boost Your Day
Tumblr media
In today's fast-paced world, balancing work, life, and health can feel like a constant juggling act. For busy professionals, finding time for self-care might seem impossible. But what if I told you that integrating yoga into your daily routine doesn't have to be time-consuming or complicated? At Maa Shakti Yog Bali, we believe that even a few minutes of mindful movement and breathwork can make a significant difference in your day.
Why Yoga is a Game-Changer for Busy Professionals
Long hours at the desk, tight deadlines, and constant multitasking can take a toll on both your body and mind. Yoga offers a holistic way to counter these challenges, helping you to:
Relieve Stress: Simple breathing exercises and gentle stretches can calm your mind and reduce stress levels, making it easier to handle whatever the day throws at you.
Increase Focus and Productivity: A quick yoga session can clear mental fog, helping you stay sharp and focused.
Boost Energy: Need a pick-me-up? Yoga can energize you, banishing that mid-day slump.
Improve Posture and Reduce Pain: Sitting at a desk all day can lead to poor posture and nagging aches. Yoga helps correct imbalances, relieving pain and promoting better posture.
Quick Yoga Routines for Busy Schedules
Here are some quick and effective yoga routines that can easily fit into your busy day:
1. Morning Energizer (5-10 minutes)
Sun Salutations (Surya Namaskar): Start your day with 3-5 rounds of Sun Salutations. This sequence warms up your body, gets your blood flowing, and sets a positive tone for the day.
Cat-Cow Pose (Marjaryasana-Bitilasana): Follow up with a few rounds of Cat-Cow to gently awaken your spine and get you ready for whatever lies ahead.
2. Desk Yoga (3-5 minutes)
Seated Forward Bend (Paschimottanasana): Sit at the edge of your chair, take a deep breath in, and as you exhale, fold forward over your legs. This simple stretch helps relieve tension in your back and hamstrings.
Seated Spinal Twist (Ardha Matsyendrasana): While seated, twist your torso to one side, holding onto the armrest of your chair. This twist aids digestion and releases tension in your spine, keeping you comfortable during those long hours at the desk.
3. Mid-Day Rejuvenation (5 minutes)
Standing Forward Bend (Uttanasana): Stand up, fold forward, and let your head hang down. This pose is great for relieving stress and fatigue, helping you power through the rest of your day.
Mountain Pose (Tadasana) with Deep Breathing: Stand tall, plant your feet firmly on the ground, and take a few deep breaths. This pose helps you reset, find your center, and approach the rest of your tasks with renewed focus.
4. Evening Wind Down (5-10 minutes)
Legs Up the Wall (Viparita Karani): Lie on your back with your legs resting against the wall. This restorative pose calms your nervous system and helps reduce swelling in your legs after a long day.
Child’s Pose (Balasana): End your day with Child’s Pose to relax your body and mind, setting you up for a peaceful night’s sleep.
How to Make Yoga a Part of Your Daily Routine
Start Small: Don’t feel pressured to carve out an hour for yoga. Start with just 5 minutes a day and gradually increase the time as it fits into your schedule.
Consistency is Key: It’s better to practice a little every day than to do a long session once in a while. Regularity helps you build a habit that sticks.
Tie It to a Routine: Link your yoga practice to something you already do daily, like after you brush your teeth or before you start work.
Leverage Technology: Use apps or online videos to guide you through quick yoga routines, even when you're on the go.
Conclusion
At Maa Shakti Yog Bali, we understand the demands of modern life, and we’re here to help you make yoga a seamless part of your daily routine, no matter how busy you are. Yoga isn’t just another task to check off your to-do list—it’s a powerful tool to bring balance, peace, and vitality into your life. By incorporating these quick routines, you can maintain your well-being and thrive both personally and professionally.
Take a few moments each day to reconnect with yourself through yoga, and watch how it transforms your energy and outlook. Namaste!

The Solar New Year 2023 will be observed on April 14th 2023. The below are the important dates to consider for
Mesha Sankranti: Sunrise: April 14, 2023 | Time: 6:21 AM Sunset: April 14th, 2023 | Time: 7:00 PM

How Mesha Sankranti Originated and Significanted?
Mesha Sankranti is made up of two Sanskrit sentences. Sankranti signifies ‘the change of course,’ referring to the movement of the sun or other planets. Mesha, on the other hand, refers to the constellation. Mesha Sankranti suggests that the entire day is dependent on timekeeping, a practice established in the ancient Vedanga field’s writings.
The Sun takes one year to transit through all twelve signs, beginning with the fire sign Aries and ending with the water sign Pisces, commonly known as Meen Rashi. The Sun spends one month in each zodiac sign, according to the Hindu solar calendar. As the Sun returns to the first sign of the zodiac, Aries, or Mesha Rashi, it marks the beginning of the Solar New Year, also known as Mesha Sankranti in India.
What are the rituals of the Solar New Year?
● On this day, worshippers wakes up before sunrise to take a ritual bath in one of holy rivers or with splashes of holy rivers.
● Together with Surya Namaskar, devotees should offer Jal to Surya Dev.
● It is important to carry out all Sankranti ceremonies throughout the Punya Kaal Muhurat time.
● “Om Grehini Suryaya Namaha!” is the most necessary mantra to chant on this day.
● In certain groups, a special drink known as Panna is made and served as prasad after the puja.
● Donating red and yellow clothing is regarded particularly lucky since it represents the colour of the Sun.
It is recommended to do personalised rituals for Mesha Sankranti, since this also benefits as in removal of the bad effects of the planets in your birth chart. Astrological Significance Of Solar New Year
The Sun takes one year to transit through all twelve zodiac signs, beginning with Aries and ending with Pisces. According to the Hindu Solar Calendar, the Sun spends roughly one month in each zodiac sign. As a result, when the Sun enters Aries, also known as Mesha Rashi, it marks the start of the Sun transit cycle, also known as Solar New Year or Mesha Sankranti.
Because Astrologers usually utilise the Solar calendar, this is an extremely important day for them and is officially celebrated as the Solar New Year.
Hence, it is the auspicious celebration that marks the start of the Solar New Year. When the Surya Dev completes one year by traversing through all the zodiac signs, the Solar New Year starts. On this day, it is stated that conducting charity activity or assisting others can wash away all sins. It is thought that the 10 minutes preceding and following Sankranti are critical for conducting all rites and prayers. The deity sun (Surya dev) is thought to eliminate the darkness and make your life light during this period.
Is Hindu New Year and Solar New Year are Different?
Yes, the Hindu New Year or Vikram Samvat marks the beginning of the new year in the Hindu calendar. It falls on the first day of the Hindu month of Chaitra. This event is significant for Hindus worldwide and is celebrated with traditional rituals and festivities. Whereas Solar New Year Starts when Surya Dev Completes its presence across zodiac signs and once again enters Aries (Mesha Rashi).
Overall, both the Solar New Year and the Hindu New Year hold significance in Vedic astrology, and the planetary positions at the time of these events are believed to have an impact on the lives of individuals and the world at large.

Six Months - Part Twelve

Masterpost (find previous parts here)
Friday morning rolls around, and Layla rolls her yoga mat onto the grass in the backyard. She woke up at six and dragged her butt to the home gym to continue with her hourglass challenge workouts. She gets super worked up when the instructor looks all dolled up and not breaking any sweat, while on the other hand she’s panting like a cow. She hates to admit it but her midsection looks toned. The tiny pouch on her lower belly hasn’t vanished but she wasn’t complaining. She truly needed to calm down after three back to back videos. She starts with some surya namaskars. Ten rounds later, she gets into warrior two and shuts her eye, feeling the gentle morning breeze on her neck and arms. Her flow session goes like that, just breathing, taking her time, feeling the breeze and taking in the sounds of birds chirping while moving from trikonasana to natarajasana.
She feels a set of eyes boring into her as she’s in karnapidasana. She smiles as she maneuvers out of the pose and gets into a semi kneeling praying mantis pose. She’s turned towards Anne’s yard now. She opens her eyes a sliver to find Harry’s head peeking out over the wooden fence.
“Staring is rude you know,” she says loudly, startling him.
His face turns a shade of pink. “I thought you had your eyes closed,” he responds defensively.
She does the cat camel pose and  fully opens her eyes to properly look at him. The fence was blocking her view but she could only see him from the chin up. His face was puffy, eyes still sleep ridden, he had the classic case of a bedhead. He brings his coffee cup up to his lips.
“They’re wide open now! What? You just woke up this morning and decided to be a perv?” she chuckles.
She slowly gets into position to do bakasana.
“No! I woke up, made my coffee and came out to drink in the yard and enjoy the quiet. That’s when I saw you and decided to be a perv,” he replies.
“Oh so I’m the problem huh?” Layla slowly puts one of her knees to the back of her upper arm, rocks back and forth, and once she feels stable, she repeats the process with the other leg.
“Yeah. It’ll be such a shame to pass up on you. You’re such a big distracti- Holy shit! How are you doing that?!?” He exclaims.
Her feet were now off the mat only to be supported by her hands on the mat. The crow pose was flawless. She doesn’t respond, just focusing on her breathing and keeping her eyes forward, trained on the same spot. She holds for a few minutes and sits back.
“It’s not that hard,” she says, turning towards him.
“I beg to differ,” he takes another sip of his coffee.
“As much as I love hanging out with you, yoga is my quiet time, earth boy.”
“Ouch.”
“Sorry. I really like some quiet before I wake up wake up.”
“It’s okay. I just came here to annoy you into giving me my morning’s kiss,” he admits.
“Okay, you leave me alone after I kiss you. Deal?” She narrows her eyes at him.
He nods and Layla walks up to the fence. They both laugh because the fence was taller than Layla.
“How are we gonna do this? You’re such a smol bean,” Harry laughs.
“Shut up!” Layla puts her forearms on the horizontal fence and hoists herself up. Her feet plant themselves on the ridges and she leans over.
Harry puts his arms around her neck holding her in place, not wanting her to fall off but he couldn’t stop the chuckle that passed his lips.
“I can only do this for so long,” she hisses.
“Okay okay. I’m sorry, my baby.” He leans forward and starts trailing kisses on her cheek. She takes in the softness on his lips, and the scent of coffee invades her nostrils  as his lips get closer to hers.
“Good morning, babe,” she mutters against his lips.
He smiles into the kiss. It was soft and lazy. Layla tasted like her Spearmint mouthwash and Harry tasted of his coffee. He pulls apart, and leans back in only to kiss the tip of her nose.
“Good morning indeed,” he agrees, as he looks at her. Eyes crinkling in the side as his smile widens and his dimples craters.
Layla drops back to the ground and runs her hands up and down her forearms.
“Hey, Lails?”
“Hmm?”
“Mum’s on her twenty four hour shift again. She’ll leave after lunch and I’ll be home alone. Wanna swing by later?”
“Can’t.”
His face falls.
“I’ll be heading over to the farmers market to pick up some veggies. Then I got to finish Earl’s painting by tomorrow. Then Uncle, Aunty and I have a crazy golf outing after they come back from work. Sorry.”
“It’s okay. I’ll find something to do. The pictures we took yesterday need editing,” he shrugs. Besides, he can't expect to hang out with her all the time, right?
“How about a walk by the lake in the afternoon? I’ll text you after I’ve picked out all fruits and veg, and head to CVS to pick up some panty liners.”
“That sounds nice,” he smiles at her and drains out the remainder of the coffee from his mug.
“Okay see you soon.”
“Yeah, see you soon. Now be gone, earth boy!”
“Okay okay,” he laughs. “I’m going to do the dishes.” He blows a kiss in her direction and heads off inside. Layla heads back to the mat and picks up from where she left off.
She finishes by doing savasana. She’s scanning her body from the bottom of her feet and all the way to the top of her head. She feels her body becoming lighter and lighter, like she’s one with the ground. She’s floating on the edge of consciousness. This was her favourite part.
“Are you sleeping?” Her body jerks into a sitting position and her eyes fly open. She turns her head around to chuck something at Harry’s fat head.
But it wasn’t him. She turns around to see her aunt standing next to the porch swing. “No!”
“Oh, sorry for interrupting. I just thought you fell asleep. Sorry, kutti.”
“It’s okay. I was done away,” she says standing up to roll her mat.
////
“Bye, Anne!”
Harry and Layla wave as Anne pulls out the driveway. She blows them a kiss before speeding off to the university hospital. Harry takes Layla’s tote off her shoulder and puts it on his.
“Come on then,” he says, wrapping his arms around her shoulder and the two walk towards the park in silence. Layla was wearing a blue and red cotton short kurti top with white buttons down the front and  black high waisted wide legged trousers. She’s swimming in an oversized black denim jacket that she stole from her uncle. Her hair was in a lazy  messy low bun with her curtain bangs set in place.  Harry opted for some grey sweats and a white Fleetwood Mac tshirt with floral designs.
The two get to the lake and sit on a nearby bench, facing the water. Layla snuggles into Harry’s side and puts her cheek on his shoulder. Harry’s left arm was draped on her waist, holding her close to him. His other hand finds one of hers and he interlaces their fingers.
“This is nice,” she mutters to him as Harry kisses her crown.
“Yeah it is. Shame we haven’t come to properly spend time here since the picnic.”
“Oh god,” she chuckles. “We were so awkward around each other.”
“What did you call it? Friend picnic?” He laughs.
“Yeah. I regretted that immediately. My friends were on my ass for that.”
“Yeah. It was a stupid move,” he agrees.
“Didn’t recall you telling me otherwise,” she rolls her eyes.
“Well, what should I have said? Told you that I was asking you out on a date.”
“Well yeah.” She pulls back and turns around to fully face him.
“Okay, let’s look at it from my point of view. One, a cute girl I just met at brunch looked at me like I was repugnant and avoided me the WHOLE time, like I was some kind of a plague. Two, said cute girl saw me watching her dance around her room with a face mask on at night. Three, the next morning she came up to me and told me that she recognised me from OnlyFans, which by the way is terribly blindsiding, for someone who doesn’t post their face or edit my tattoos away completely. Four, when I asked her out she completely friend zoned me. I really didn’t know if you were even into guys or you could have easily had someone back home.”
“Okay, when you put it like that…” she trails off.
“But I guess it worked out in the end.”
“Yeah, and what it only took us like a month and a half,” she chuckles.
“Guess what, something I wouldn't have done a month and a half ago?”
Layla stares at him dumbfounded.
“I’m wearing sunscreen.”
“Oh, no way! Look at you picking up my healthy habits,” she squeals.
“Don’t I deserve some kind of treat?” He asks, puffing out his cheek. She leans forward and presses a wet kiss on it. She puts her cheek back on his shoulders and the two settle back again. Layla asks him to pull out a Tupperware box from her tote, and they munch on thinly sliced cucumbers with salt and chilli powder.
“Layla?” He asks putting back the box into her tote.
“Hmm.”
“Do you ever regret going out with me?”
“What?!? Harry no. Why would you ever think like that?” She pulls away from him again, wanting to look at his face.
“I don’t know…”
“That thought must have come from somewhere, Har.”
“Well, it’s just- just- I don’t-,” he twiddles with his fingers. “Okay, I do know. I have never felt the same way about someone else before.”
“How does that make you feel exactly?”
“I’m terrified,” he says earnestly.
“Well, experiencing new things can be terrifying for some, exhilarating for others, sometimes it’s a combination of the two. Do you regret going out with me?” She asks.
“No! See, that’s the thing! I’m very sure of this choice but sometimes it feels like this huge clock ticking in the background whenever I’m with you. Like a bomb waiting to go off.”
Layla can’t help but feel a sting in her chest. “Oh, I’m sorry you feel like that. I honestly don’t know what I’m doing to make you feel like you need to be walking around eggshells around me.” She fully pulls away from him, leaving an ample amount of space between both their bodies.
“It’s not you!”
“It kinda feels like it is, Harry.”
“No, please. I’m not saying it properly. It feels like this relationship has a timestamp. It feels fleeting. I was mowing the front lawn and Vasanth and Abi were leaving and I heard them talking about taking you shopping for winter clothes and... booking you a ticket to go back to Chennai. I guess I'm panicking about that,” he explains.
“I see. We were talking about it during breakfast, yes. I’m only permitted to be in this country for six months, Harry. So, we were trying to figure out dates of when I can go back home. I’m sorry. I guess it is pretty selfish of me to pull you along for six months. I’m sorry.” Tears starting to prick her eyes.
“No. I mean. I really like you and that it's terrifying but in a good way. You’re not stringing me along. I asked you out, remember? I don’t think I can stay away from you and the thought of having you oceans away after a couple of months is making me feel woeful,” tears spring to his eyes as well.
“Oh, Harry. I’m so sorry.” She hugs him. “Going back home is scary for me too. I like being here. But I’ll be back here soon for grad school. Who knows what will happen then? I’m taking these six months one day at a time but if you can’t do that then…,” she tails off not wanting to finish the sentence.
“No, I don’t want to break up.” He says wiping away his own tears before reaching forward to thumb her tears away from her cheeks. “I guess I got in my head. I want to take this one day at a time too. I’d take anything with you. I think the fear of losing you creeped in. You’re my baby, my sweet girl-”
A loud snort escapes her, making the two giggle.
“Shut up! I do not just call you that when we’re having sex!”
“Yes, you do! I’ll keep tally somewhere, just you wait.”
“Anyways, I just want you to be my baby forever. You’re like my personal magnet. I felt this pull the second I saw you. You’re right. Let’s take this one day at a time. Guess, I was thinking of Mitch and Sarah and I was always a wee bit jealous of them.”
“How so?” Layla asks.
“They found their person when they were sixteen. I’ve always wanted that for me.”
“Thought you had a girlfriend in high school.”
“I did. I was sick of being the third wheel and wanted attention when they’d snog or be all lovey dovey.”
“Wow! Such romantic intentions,” she comments.
“What can I say? I’ve never felt this way about anyone before. Sorry for dumping all this on you,” he says, tucking her curtain bang behind her ear.
“You didn’t dump anything. Your feelings are valid and we talked through it in a very adult manner. I’d say that deserves a gold star.” She pats his back.
“How mature of us indeed. Now come on, you’re so far away,” he says, patting his shoulder. Layla puts her cheek on his shoulder again and snuggles into his side, as Harry rests his head on hers.
“How’s your period? You went to CVS to get pads right?” He asks, rubbing her back.
“Oh, I’m done. My period stopped last night. I didn’t go to CVS for pads. I have them at home. I went to stock up on panty liners.”
“These are two different things?”
“Panty liners are essentially tiny, thin pads for discharge and spotting.”
“Ah, I see. You know you can ask me to get you pads or panty liners anytime, right?”
“Yeah, I know.” She pats the back of his hand.
“How’s the painting coming up for Earl?”
“Oh, pretty good. Just have a few more highlights and I’m done. Like one hour of work. Then it’s just varnish and letting it dry overnight.”
“He’ll be so fucking ecstatic tomorrow when you show up with that.”
“Yeah. I can’t wait. What are your plans for the rest of the day?” She enquires.
“Edit the pictures we took yesterday. Work on the essay, so I can apply next month to UCSD.”
“Productive day for you. I can’t wait to go mini golfing with Uncle and Aunty.”
“Hmm. Hey, do you wanna come over tomorrow? We could make it a sleepover. I can make some dinner and then maybe watch a movie or somet-”
“Harry, are you trying to wine and dine me?” She interrupts.
“Yeah. Interested?”
“Very. What are you gonna make?”
“That’s for me to know and you to find out,” he retorts.
“Har?”
“Yeah, baby”
“I really really like you,” she murmurs.
He cups her face with his hands, and uses his thumb to free her lower lip from her teeth and rub back and forth. He smiles at her, feeling the heat of her cheeks beneath his palm. His heart races. He leans in his green orbs never breaking their contact with her obsidian, October ones. He brushes his lips with hers. “I really like you too,” he whispers against her lips and pulls back to see a smile spread across her face. He returns it with his own shy smile and traps her bottom lip in between his. They move together in sync. Layla’s hands come to grip at his hips, bunching the material of his t-shirt. They pull apart and Harry rests his forehead against hers.
“Now that you’ve said that.” She drags out the last word and a mischievous smile tugs the corners of her lips upward. “I got you something from the farmers market.” She reaches for her tote and pulls out a white cardboard box and hands it to him.
“What’s this for?” He questions.
“Just thought of you when I saw it and also a thank you for dinner on Sunday.”
He opens the box to pull out a ceramic mug with pumpkins and lavenders painted on the outside and daisies on the inside. It had a small snail in the middle with a pumpkin for a shell. Of course she gets him this, but he wouldn’t have it any other way.  He tries to give her his irritated face but miserably fails as an adoring look finds a home there.
“What about a slimy snail made me pop into that brain of yours?” He arches his eyebrows.
“It’s not slimy. It’s cute. Handmade. Autumnal. Since you don’t understand snails the way I do, it’s only fair that one stares you down until it melts your icy heart.”
“I’ll learn to love it. Thank you baby. My new favourite coffee mug,” he declares. He runs his fingers on the smooth surface and puts it into the box. He gets up, after putting the tote back in the box, and holds his hands out to help Layla stand up.
As the two walk around the lake hand in hand, Harry looks  down at Layla’s profile - her eye scans the water to spot a turtle - a familiar wave of fervent adoration crashes in Harry’s chest and seeps through the fibre of his being. He’s thrown off again, he’s felt it before with her but it’s something he couldn’t label quite yet but that doesn’t stop him from bending down to kiss her cheek and playfully licks her. She squeals in response, pushing his face away, using the back of her hand to wipe the saliva away.
////
“You cheated!” Vasanth shouts at Layla.
“No, I didn’t!”
“You just raised the putter higher than your knee when you took the swing,” he points out.
“Prove it then!”
Turns out actual golf and crazy golf were two different things. Abi was creaming the two of them because she’s a mini golf savant
“Cut it out you two!” Abi yells at the two of them. “The two of you already are twelve extra shots, combined, behind me. There’s only one more hole. Face it. I’m the god of minigolf!” She cackles maniacally.
“Okay. How about we call it a truce and finish this soon and get North Indian food?”  Layla proposes.
“I agree. The sooner we finish, the sooner we have naan, jeera rice, paneer butter masala and malai kofta in our bellies,” Vasanth agrees.
“And before all that we’re stopping by McDonalds and getting a flurry,” Abi adds.
The niece and uncle whip their heads around and give her a similar look of disbelief.
“Hello! I have your baby in my tummy. You are supposed to accommodate my needs like your own,” she giggles.
“That you do,” Vasanth beams, wrapping his arms around his wife and bends down to kiss her forehead.
“Bleh! Old people kissing! Gross!” Layla exclaims, covering her eyes.
////
“Hey Earl, can I cut some of the leaves from this plant for the bouquet?” Layla shows him a picture of the plant from his greenhouse on her phone. It was rather a peculiar looking plant. It was a dull dark green with a white outline on the leaves.
“Sure, Layla.” He says going over to attend to the two women who walk into the store.
Layla heads back to the greenhouse and uses the scissors to cut the stems of the plant so she could use the leaves. After she’s collected a few, she moves around the greenhouse taking her phone out of her pocket to take a few pictures of the cute ceramic pots and the flowers Earl had.
When she comes back into the shop she hears a lady complimenting the colourful canvas that was proudly displayed next to his till.
“Yeah. It’s very special, just like the painter,” he adds, sending a wink in her direction.
She smiles at the ground, face heating up instantly. She quietly heads to her spot behind the counter and adds the green sparsely among the flowers she’s already laid out.
“You should get it framed,” a lady says, pointing to the painting.
“Definitely.” He agrees. “That will be eighty two dollars, ladies. Earl settles the change and they go on their way.
“What do you think, Earl?” Layla says loosely holding up the arrangement. “Does this scream boujee yet classy?”
“Honestly, honey, I still have no fucking clue what that means,” he chuckles.
“Good thing you have me huh? Do you wanna listen to some music?”
“Do you have something by the Miles Davis Quintet?”
“I do not but I can certainly pull it up.” Layla types it into her Spotify and clicks shuffle. Soon piano and trumpet sound fills the space as My Funny Valentine emanates from the speakers. and the two keep working. As she’s cutting through a piece of sky blue satin paper the bell dings and the two look up to see Harry walking in.
“Hello to the two of you!” He exclaims, taking his hoodie off to reveal a black Harley Davidson t-shirt underneath.
“Good to see you, son.” Earl says and Layla waves in his direction not picking her head up from the bouquet she’s trying to wrap.
“Oh look! The painting came out wonderfully,” he says, taking his phone out to snap a few pictures of the glossy canvas.
“Yeah, I’m thinking of framing it and putting it on that wall there. So people that walk by can see it. She does still life very  well, huh?” He says, nodding towards Layla.
“Alright, what did I say about complimenting me when I’m in the room? It’s not allowed.” She looks at the two of them
“Well, darling, I told you this once and I told you before. I simply do not care.” Harry giggles at Earl’s response.
“You look like you’ve been run over by a truck, Lails,” Harry says. Layla was in joggers and a yellow and white tie dye t-shirt, Harry is pretty sure that was the same t-shirt Abi wore on their hike in Smoky Mountains. She had her hair half up in a bun secured by a French pin. Her hair had those beachy mermaid waves but it looked like it hadn't been combed through. She had two yellow stars on her face, one in between her brows and the other on her cheekbone. There were two more cloudy circular stickers on her jawline and her forehead.
“Harold, take it from a man with over seventy years of experience. You never say that to a woman,” he comments, putting his hand on his shoulder to emphasise his point. “You’re gonna be in the dog house.”
“No, it’s fine, Earl,” Layla chuckles. “I am a hot mess today. We came home quite late after golf and dinner. I should have gone to bed but my cousins called me around midnight telling me they were at my grandma's house and they were going to start a party for Rainbow Siege. I declined but then major fomo happened and I ended up switching on the PlayStation and we were playing till dawn. I must have slept through the alarm - which I set two of by the way. Auntie and Uncle also woke up late. So I barely had any time to do anything. I brushed my teeth, pulled Aunty’s shirt from the clean laundry basket, chomped my way through a granola bar and here I am.”
“What’s that on your face?” Harry asks, pointing to the stickers on her face.
“Pimple patches. I put it on my face like an idiot at dawn but didn’t want to take it off because it’s supposed to be there for at least six hours and I don’t want to waste money,” she mumbles. “Earl, hand me over the card and the pens please? "Earl gets them from the drawer and hands it over to Layla.
“Harry, you should take your Dark Side of the Moon and London Calling records with you, son. I enjoyed them both. Pink Floyd is always something else,” Earl says, sitting down next to Harry in his light pink velvet sofa that was pushed against the wall near the staircase that leads up to his living quarters.
Layla gets the wrapping paper around in the shape she likes and ties it. “I didn’t know you had vinyls Harry.” Layla asks, confused because she has never seen vinyls or a record player in his room, his house even.
“I have been collecting them since I was thirteen,” he shrugs. Layla notes that posture bristles with an urgent sense of unease.
“I mostly have jazz and blues. Harry’s tastes are a bit different. We exchange records every month. Technically, Harry would give me his records and he’d search up the vinyls I pick out for him and listen to it on his phone. So far, I’d have to say I’ve thoroughly enjoyed his music except for Kanye West.”
“I’m going to have to disagree. Mercy is the shit.” Layla says.
“Oh yeah, she doesn’t look like it. But Layla can rap like there’s no tomorrow.” Harry tells Earl. “I’ve also got two more for you this month.” Harry pulls out two vinyls: Rumours and In the Aeroplane Over the Sea.
Earl examines the vinyl cover and looks at the art piece. “Put this on your phone, son. Thelonius Monk’s  Monk’s Dream and  Miles Davis’s Kind of Blue.”
Harry pulls them both on Spotify and likes it. “Let’s see if they make it into my jazz playlist,” he tells him.
Layla slots the nib into place and dips it in the pot of black ink and scribbles ‘Earl’s Bloom Room’ in calligraphy and attaches where the satin ribbon is tied in place.
“There! All done!” She exclaims turning the bouquet over to the two. It was made with white roses, small sunflowers and the green leaves she picked out from the greenhouse. It was wrapped in blue paper and carefully cut near the stem ends to make them even.
After the appreciation for the bouquet has died down Earl says, “Okay. I’ve got to ask, is fomo a new type of drug?”
Harry and Layla burst out into a fit of giggles.

Layla keys into Earl’s place after going to the courier to ship off five of her paintings. She left the boys to make lunch, as she walks up the stairs she could hear The Chain and Harry terribly singing along to it. When Earl’s living room comes into view she sees Harry singing into a candle and Earl next to him bopping from where he’s sat on the sofa, next to the record player. She chuckles at the sight in front of her and beelines to the restroom to pee.
When she comes out Earl hands her a Moscow Mule wordlessly. “Thanks,” she says, taking  the glass from his hands. The cold from the glass against her palm feels welcoming. Harry’s still belting out, dancing like a loon.
“Earl! Did you give him alcohol?” She whispers.
“Just a glass.” He says defensively.
She narrows her eyes at him.
“Okay,” he throws his hands up in defeat. “One very tall glass.”
She shakes her head and takes a sip. “Looks like you went fifty fifty with the vodka and ginger beer,” she comments.
“When you get to a stage in life where you’re over seventy. Your morals become a little loose and your hands get more generous with the alcohol.”
Harry wasn’t drunk per say, but he was definitely tipsy alright.
“We made jambalaya with chicken and shrimp. Harry chopped up lots of vegetables, just how you like it.”
“Thank you. Can’t wait.”
You Make Lovin’ Fun starts playing and Earl extends his arm out to her and Layla accepts giggling. They both make their way into the living room and gently sway. Layla holds on to her Moscow Mule, careful not to spill it on the carpet or on Earl.
“Excuse me, can I cut in?” Harry says, tapping Earl on the shoulder.
“Yeah, you dance with your girl. I'll plate up our jambalaya.” He steps back and heads to the kitchen.
Layla buries her head in his chest and they start moving around the room.
“I think it’s time you start drinking some water,” Layla says, voice muffled.
“I’m not drunk!”
Layla pokes his side in response.
“Okay. I’m slightly buzzed,” he admits and they twirl around the best they can with Harry being all gangly to the remainder of the song.
The three talk about New Orleans, especially Earl’s stories of a particular Mardi Gras where he met his wife- Joanne - while they ate. Harry and Earl drink some water while Layla still sips on her drink.
“You were wild back then!” Harry exclaims, hearing about a particular incident where he blacked out after drinking everything in his sight while on LSD.
“Not my proudest moment,” he says. “But it was also the same night I met my wife. What can I say? I lived life,” he shrugs.
“I’m so excited. We’re going there on Halloween,” Layla says.
“That’s right! I completely forgot. Vasanth stopped by to ask me about exploring New Orleans with the best place to stay and some hidden sights. He told me you are obsessed with the city, ever since Princess and the Frog came out,” Earl recollects.
“Yep. It was a good movie. Prince Naveen and Tiana have my heart, second only to Jasmine and Flynn Rider of course,” she swoons and Harry rolls his eyes, making Earl laugh.
“It’s a shame you haven’t fit Disney World in your travel schedule,” Earl says.
“Yeah. You’re such a Disney nut, I thought that would be at the top of your list,” Harry adds.
“Well, ideally I’d love to but Harry and I are doing Vermont for five days. We’re leaving on Wednesday. Then at the end of this month Aunty, Uncle and I are going to New Orleans for four days. November has Ganesan's wedding, Diwali,  Aunty’s pregnancy function and I start teaching officially too. In December, Uncle and Aunty have plans of celebrating New Years in Aspen. Then immediately, it’s three days in Chicago to visit an Uncle and explore with the folks. But I would pick Vermont and the Airbnb to Disney.  I’d love to fit New York into the mix but it’s just asking too much. I suppose I could squeeze in a solo trip to New York with my money, like the Vermont trip but- what?” She asks the two of them when they share a knowing glance with each other.
“Nothing, darling. It’s just Harry was telling me that he’s never observed thanksgiving and I was thinking it would be nice, if you all come with me to Miami. I’m sure my kids would love to host you all. You kids could take full advantage of the warmer weather and the beach,” Earl says, changing the subject from New York completely.
“Oh, that seems lovely!” Layla exclaims and Harry’s shoulder visibly relaxes. He wanted to propose the idea of her birthday trip to New York during their Vermont getaway.
“It’s a shame about Orlando though,” Harry mumbles.

“Hi,” Layla steps into the house and toes off her crocs as Harry shuts and locks the front door. She’s wearing her Batman outfit again. Harry’s eyes roam wild around her body.
“Oh and I’m going to have to leave after breakfast tomorrow. Auntie, Uncle and I are going to the mall to get me fall and winter appropriate clothi-“
Before she can finish the sentence, Harry’s lips are on hers, tongue greedily slipping into her mouth to suck on her tongue. He pins her against the front door, her back against the hard wood surface. His hand comes up from her hips, to grab the tote bag that was simply overstuffed with her belongings. Just as he’s about to drop it on the floor, she pushes him back, dark eyes wide staring at him in panic.
“My Gameboy’s in there,” she says, hand going to clutch his, the one holding the bag.
He nods, getting what she means, he pulls back, walks over to the foyer table displaying an artwork that reminds Layla of the circle things from the movie Arrival, and places the tote on it with utter gentleness.
“Thank you. I’ll cry if something happens to it,” she admits.
He cups her cheek, tilting her head up to look at him. She gives him a particular shy smile, something he’s observed that she reserves just for him. It makes his heart soar. He bends down and presses a long kiss to her forehead, their eyelids flutter shut.
“Don’t think you’ve ever greeted me like that before,” she whispers and Harry feels her face heat up under his palms.
“Can you blame me? I’m excited! Plus, my baby looks like sex on a stick,” he says.
“Sex on a stick,” he mimics his accent, making a hearty laugh tumble out his mouth.
“Can I show you how excited I am?” He asks, in his sex voice.
She nods. Harry laces his hands in hers and leads her to the empty spot next to the table. He pushes her back against the wall, one hand holds her hip and the other on her waist. He bends his knee and envelops her soft lip with his pillowy ones. She nibbles on his bottom lip, and he parts his mouth. Layla uses that opportunity to slip her tongue in his mouth and slowly starts caressing his.
As they ravenously make out, Layla’s hands come to cup Harry’s cheeks holding him in place. She’s on the tip of her toes, and Harry’s hand travels from her waist to her breast and he squeezes it, making the two breathe into each other’s mouths. His thumb, at her hip, constantly switching between rubbing circles and going back and forth on her bare, warm wheat skin. A tiny act that was driving her absolutely insane.
He kisses her jaw, her neck, and pulls down her top to reveal the tops of her breasts. His eyes immediately spot the green veins that begged to be kissed and sucked by him. He buries his face there and kisses and gently bites down on them after giving them a few tender sucks. She purrs in response and he pulls away before he gets too carried away, not wanting to leave marks - he didn’t want to embarrass her when she was going shopping with Vasanth and Abi tomorrow.  He slowly sinks to his knees, and looks up at her asking for permission, and his hands come to unbutton her pants and she nods.
He wastes no peeling them off and tossing them aside. His face splits open in absolute delight when he sees that she’s wearing her Batman thong.
“I have two of them. Just so you know. I’m not wearing the same undies as Thursday,” Layla says.
“Okay, baby,” Harry chuckles, leaning forward to kiss her covered mound. Inhaling in her intoxicating scent.
He brings this thumb and runs it up and down her slit, making her jerk whenever it brushes past her clitoris. His other hand tightens around her waist, thwarting her attempts, as he flattens his tongue on her slit and licks up, maintaining eye contact.
“Stop fucking squirming, sweet girl,” he says, looking up at her.
“Make me then,” she challenges him.
He slips her underwear off her and lets them pool by her ankles. Layla steps out of them and pushes them aside. He starts trailing small kisses down her thigh and lifts up her foot, and hooks one over his shoulder. Her other foot was firmly placed on the floor.
“Don’t think you could squirm much anymore,” he whispers cockily, as his hands come to circle the other part of her thigh. With no warning her dives right in, drawing a long moan from her. Harry had come to understand that Layla was not the type of person to get wet easily. But that doesn't mean that she wasn’t aroused, when his eyes flicked up to her face, Layla had her eyes shut, her hands were desperately clawing against the wall - wanting to hold onto something, chest heaving, her bottom lip ensnared by her upper teeth, trying to drown out the noises that were being produced by her. He runs his tongue along her grooves, sucking in her lips as he does with her clitoris.
She gasps, jumping when his teeth nip at her clit. “Alright?” He asks, and the vibrations of his voice against her centre, makes her hands fly to his hair.
“Baby?” He asks again, eyes flicking to her face to her heady eyes looking down at him.
“Yeah. Do that again,” she demands.
And he does. Again. And again. Each time making her jerk forward into his face a little, hands tugging his curls harshly making him groan against her centre. She was soaring, her muscles were contracting, ready to relax.
“Fuck, fuck, fuck. I’m so close,” she whimpers.
Harry quickly flicks his tongue against her nub and the levee breaks. Her thighs spasm against his cheek, her hands tugs on his hair at a grip that was borderline painful. His hands let go of the leg that was planted on the ground, his thumb coming to press against her clitoris to help her ride out her aftershocks. He carefully puts down the leg that was on his shoulder and tugs her on his lap, on the floor.
“Cotton candy,” Layla says softly, against his neck as her breathing comes under control.
“Huh?”
“The lube. It’s in my bag,” she responds.
“Let's open it up now shall we? You up for another round, my sweet girl?” He asks, kissing her lips.
She nods, and Harry lays her on the carpeted floor. Crawling towards the table to rifle through her tote to find the small lube bottle.
“Aha!” He says, making Layla giggle.
He crawls back in between her legs, opens up the bottle, and squirts some directly on to her. She squeaks at the sudden icy temperature on her mound.
“Shit, sorry. I should have warmed it up,” he apologises. “Let me.” He uses his fingers to spread the jelly on her, coating her completely.
Once he's done, he lays flat on his stomach, putting her legs over his shoulders. His hands come to  rest on her belly, pressing down to create pressure as he licks her clean. Filthy wet sounds accompany their heavy breathing and grunts. When Harry harshly sucks her clit, her hands find his, and holds on to them tightly. Layla props herself up on her elbow to see Harry swirling his tongue, licking on her button at rapid speed and she throws her head back as she comes.
“So sweet. Can’t get enough,” he says, silkily, as she falls back down, with blissed out eyes, on the floor. He goes back in again, darting his tongue at her entrance.
His eyes fly open when he feels her fingers tap against his cheek.
“I don’t like it that much,” she says.
“But you didn’t say anything when I did this last time.”
“I think I was too lost in you to care, that Sunday after dinner.”
“Okay, won’t do that again, baby,” he promises, kissing the inside of her soft thigh.
He sucks his middle finger in and slowly pushes it inside of her.
“Christ,” he spits out when he feels her walls clench around him.
He slowly moves his finger in and out and the thumb of his other hand comes to rub at her clit from side to side.
“Aaah. Need another, please.”
He obliges and gently pushes in and curls it up moving in and out, going deeper each time. He could help but bite his lip as he watched her squirm around, coming undone in absolute pleasure by his hands.
He makes a come hither his fingers, when he’s knuckle deep, and she twitches and gasps.
There it is, he smirks.
“Harrry,” she grunts, her hand comes to grab his thumb on her clit, adjusting it a bit higher, so he’s stroking her clitoral hood.
“Want me to go fast, sweet girl?” He asks, looking up at her face as she nods. He sees her stomach rise and fall rapidly as he picks up the pace of his fingers. He feels his phone vibrate once in his pocket and he ignores it.
“Fuck me,” she breaths out, back arching, as she clenches and flutters around his fingers. He quickly replaces his thumb with his lips, wrapping them around her clit and sucking hard. Her thighs close around his head impossibly tight as she rides out her orgasm. She feels four rhythmic buzzes against her calf, from where his pocket was.
She clutches on his curls and carefully tugs his face away from her centre.
"I'm sensitive," she whines when she sees him pout in protest.
He shuffles up and rests the side of his face on his stomach. He rubs soft circles on her thigh as she's coming down from her high. His phone buzzes once again, this time it wasn't rhythmic like a text. It was insistent, like a phone call. Harry fishes his phone out from his pocket.
“It’s Mitch,” he whispers, propping his chin up to look at her. Layla’s head is still swimming from her orgasm, unable to form coherent sentences.
“Hope you like spaghetti alle vongole. Wait for me in the dining room, my sweet girl,” he says, planting a wet kiss on her tummy. He saunters in the direction of the kitchen, phone pressed to his ear - leaving Layla on the hardwood floor - like he didn’t just obliterate her seconds ago.

Layla was all cleaned up, pants and all, sitting  in Anne’s dining room that she loved so much. It was quirky, random but fit the art deco theme perfectly. The room was grey with a white marble oblong table with eight felt chairs, all in different shades of pink. There was a faux mantle that had four white candle sticks on a bronze holder, two on each side. It also housed two houseplants in ceramic pots and on the wall right above the mantel was a circular picture frame. It was of Harry and Anne on what appeared to be a boat. Harry was in a white t-shirt and black shorts, looking at the camera with a smirk in some dark aviators and a newspaper boy hat. He was sat on two cushions manspreading to high heaven, elbows on his knees and hands intertwined in the middle. Anne sat behind him, with her hair in a top knot, looking down at him with a biggest grin on her face.
“Pinot Grigio?” He asks, walking into the room with a bottle of wine.
“I don’t know what that tastes like,” she says.
“Here, I really like drinking this with seafood. Give it a try.” He pours a small amount into the glass and hands it over to her.
Layla's nose scrunches up as she swallows.
“I guess, it’s a no,” he chuckles, pouring some more wine into the glass Layla hands back to him. He puts it near his plate and saunters to the kitchen with the bottle.
When he comes back, he puts a green bottle sans cap next to her plate and kisses the top of her head. "Good thing I thought ahead,” he mutters.
“Thank you, babe.” She smiles at him, taking a rather large swig of the Heineken.
He settles down next to her and they both start eating.
“So how was mini golfing last night, baby?” He asks, while he spears the clam out of the shell.
“Guess what? Crazy golf isn’t like actual golf at all but it was nice nonetheless,” Layla says twirling the spaghetti with her fork.
“You know how to play proper golf?”
“Oh yeah. My Dad and all my Uncles would sneak out to the golf course every so often when they have tons of chores to do in the house, especially right before festivals, and they’d take me along because I’d snitch. In fact, I play quite well.” She flips her hair behind her shoulder, making Harry laugh.
“I’ve seen you and your Uncle play, they all end up in the two of you puffing out your chest arguing about who cheated till you two are red in the face,” he smirks.
“Oh fuck off!” She spits out with no malice. “Name one event.” She arches an eyebrow in challenge.
“Umm. When you play cricket. When you play basketball. When you play badminton.” He wiggles three of his fingers in front of her face, a cocky grin on his face.
“Alright, you win,” she concedes.
The two continue eating and taking sips of their drinks and water, and Harry tells her about his trip to Turkey when he was fourteen and how he ended up playing volleyball everyday with this German boy he befriended.
“Harry?” Layla disrupts the comfortable silence that cocoons the two. “Can I ask you something?”
“Yeah.” He says, chewing on the garlic bread, he toasted.
“You seemed very uncomfortable when I asked you about your vinyls. You said that you’ve collected them since you were thirteen but I haven’t seen a record here. Frankly, no offense, but you seem like the kind of snob that goes around saying you prefer music from a vinyl because it’s more authentic compared to streaming.” Layla sits back in the chair to look at Harry properly.
“Well vinyl is better but not because of authenticity, it has warmth to it,” he replies and Layla gives him a smug smile.
“It does! You wouldn’t know because you only listen to music digitally,” he continues.
“Stop with the slander or I’ll stab you with my fork.” She retorts and Harry chuckles.
“I did collect records,” he says after a long pause. “I did them with my Dad…” he trails off, closing his eyes.
“Hey,” Layla says, putting her hand on her thigh and giving it a reassuring squeeze. “You don’t have to talk about it, if you don’t want to. I’m just being nosey.”
“You’re not. It’s a good observation actually. I listen to a lot of music from the seventies and eighties because my Dad was into them. We used to go around London popping in and out of vintage shops and buy them. It was our thing. We didn’t have a lot of things in common. He wasn’t around very often, he’d constantly go out of town for business trips.  I was attached to my mum on the hip. It’s just that when we moved here, my record player broke.”
 Quite metaphoric, Layla thinks.
“It was vintage and not a lot of people know how to fix them. Er… and- I don’t know if I want it to be fixed either. I could not look at them without getting angry at my dad. So I never unpacked them. It’s in the attic in boxes. When I met Earl, I sort of gravitated to his record shelf and he asked me if I collected them and I told him I haven’t in a while. He asked me what I listened to and I told him  and he sort of proposed that we exchange vinyls now and then. That’s how it started. I slowly went up to the attic and flicked through records wanting to pick something he’d enjoy and slowly I started listening to my records at his place. Little by little. But I can never unpack it all. I had them meticulously alphabetised in my room in London. After Earl’s done they go back in the box again,” he finishes, taking in a shaky breath.
“I’m sorry.” Layla says, her hands move back and forth on this thigh soothingly. “If it’s worth two cents, I don’t think you should give anyone the power to diminish something you love to do.”
He nods. “I’d like to think I’m working on it.”
“And I am proud of you,” Layla follows up promptly.
“In retrospect, I think Earl knew. Mum must have told him. He had to. Why else would he propose that to a random nineteen year old he just met?”
“He is quite an enigma,” Layla chuckles.
“Oh, Mitch wants to know your thoughts on the sound bite he’s sent,” he tells her.
“Okay.” She breaks a small piece of  garlic bread and mops up the sauce left on the plate and pops it in her mouth.
////
The harsh, cold light emanating the TV screen washes over Harry and Layla on the couch. She was cocooned in a knit blanket, whereas Harry was lounging beside her in just a pair of briefs and a t-shirt.
“They shut down Gusteau’s?!? Even after Ego adulated Remy in the review?!?”
“Yeah,” she chuckles, spooning some of the dark chocolate mousse into her mouth.
“Why are you not worked up?” He asks, eyebrow arched. He opens his mouth, tongue sticking out a smidge, and Layla automatically feeds him the mousse they are sharing.
“Unlike you, I’ve actually seen this movie. And I know that Pixar has a habit of breaking hearts but they always deliver with their happy endings,” she says, eyes on the screen, hand absentmindedly tapping the spoon with the edge of the glass.
A few minutes go by and the camera pans showing the breath taking landscape of Paris, with a small restaurant board  hanging on the left.
“I see what you mean with the happy ending,” Harry murmurs, bringing down his mouth to eat the last spoon of the dessert he made. He lets out a sigh of contentment, loving the way his little concoction tasted.
“I think this is my favourite Pixar film,” he declares, as the credits for Ratatouille rolls.
“No argument there. What do you wanna do now?” She asks, stretching out as she leans forward to put the glass on the table before them.
“There is something I want to try…” Harry says softly, looking at the knit patterns of the blanket on Layla’s lap.
“Hmm?”
“You could say no if you don’t want to but would you uh- I want you to - erm, no wait, I got that wrong,” he stammers. If there had been better lighting, Layla would have been able to see the shade of pink that covered his face.
“Hey, safe space,” she reassures, her hand coming to clutch both of his.
“Yeah yeah.” He says, eyes still not meeting hers. “I would like for you to um, finger me,” he whispers.
Her eyes widen in response. “Are you asking me if I’d like to put my finger up your bum?” She asks softly.
He nods, eyes still fixated on the blanket on her lap.
“Okay.”
“What?” His eyes fly up to meet those deep hickory pools, ones he’d grown to feel safe in, surprised by her unhesitant agreement.
“Yeah. I don’t see why not,” she shrugs. “I’m quite open to exploring new things. One question, have you ever done it before?”
“Finger myself?” He says as his eyebrows knit together.
“No,” she chuckles. “Had someone else do it to you,” she clarifies.
He shakes his head. “I have been curious, yeah. I’ve never been comfortable enough around someone to ask.” He’d also always assumed the natural dominant role during sex before her, but now the emotions and sensations he experiences when he’s under her are simply indescribable.
“I don’t know how to do it though, I mean I know but I don’t know what exactly to do exactly,” she mumbles.
“That’s fine. We can try and learn together. You don’t have to say yes because I want to do it,” he tells her.
“I’m not. I want to, too. I suppose I could google it and figure out the mechanics,” she says the last part more so to herself than to Harry.
“We could read together,” he proposes.
“Okay, but I don’t want anything to do with my bum. Just putting that out there,” she announces.
“So you don't want me to hold on to that gorgeous ass of yours? Knead it? Or sink my nails into it?” He asks with a smirk. He knows exactly what she meant but he wanted to be able to hear her say it.
“No! I like that! A lot. Quite a lot.” She says far too quickly and it just stokes his ego more.  “But one thing though. I know you use toilet paper and not that I’m telling you that you are nasty, the general concept of toilet paper is to me though - but on the other hand, you are pretty clean for a boy, I mean,” she rambles, making his lips twitch up in a smile and dimples pop out. “But I’d like for you to take a shower beforehand.”
“I can do that,” he nods.
////
Layla hears the water turn off. She was sitting in the middle of his bed, on her knees, her phone in her hand, rereading one of the articles on how to properly finger someone, the last thing she wanted to do was to hurt him. Her nails were already cut short and filed. The big bottle of lube was right next to her. Cotton candy lube had no place here, she learnt on reddit.
Harry’s footsteps get closer to her and he stands before her. Hair damp, presumably from the shower, curls more defined. He had nothing on him but a white towel around his hips and his silver cross chain. The dim lights, Layla dimmed it so he’d feel more comfortable, make his cheekbones look more sharp; he looks like a sensuous dark academia vision. She locks her phone and tosses it at the end of the bed.
“I, um, shaved down there,” he mumbles.
“I appreciate it.” She says giving a soft smile to ease the skittishness from the forest green orbs.
“Come here,” she whispers, making grabby hands at him. He knees on the bed and once he’s in reach, Layla grabs on to his face and pulls his lips to hers, and they kiss gingerly.
“Do you wanna lay back on the bed?”
He nods shyly. Once he’s comfortably on the bed, Harry undoes his towel.
“I think I’ll just leave the towel under me, so we don’t have to strip the bed if it gets messy.”
“Good thinking.”
She crawls to him and he puts a hand at the back of her neck and pulls her towards him. She pecks his lips and slowly makes her way down his neck. He mewls when she sucks on his sweet spot. She swirls her tongue around his nipples and his hand comes to knead her supple breasts.
“Aah, fuck Lails.”
She moves her lips closer to his ear. “I’m gonna touch you now. Is that okay?” She murmurs.
Once she gets a nod from Harry her hand goes to wrap around his member. It was already semi hard at this point.
She pumps him up and down, twisting her hand every now and then. Her thumb giving plenty of attention to his leaky tip, pressing down on his slit with just enough pressure to make him part his lips to harshly suck air into his lungs. His toes curl, and his hands ball up the towel.
“Can you touch yourself for me, babe?” She coos.
“Okay.” His hand replaces hers and Layla can’t help but stare at the filthy sight of this tattooed cross going up and down on his rock hard dick.
She breaks out of the trance and turns around to look for the bottle of lube. She squeezes some on the pads of her index and middle fingers. She uses her thumb to rub circles to warm it up. Harry moans at the vision in front of him. She was in her black t-shirt bra and batman thongs. Straight black hair mussed up, curtain bangs haphazardly tucked behind her ears, lips still slightly swollen from making out earlier. She sat back on her heels, in between his knees, and her stomach makes a small crease, a few inches above her belly button.
“Okay. If you change your mind anytime, you let me know. We can stop right away. If it hurts or it doesn’t feel good, tell me okay? What matters the most is that you are comfortable, alright?” She tells him.
“Got it. Same goes for you. Please don’t feel like you need to keep going for me,” he says, hand lazily tugging on himself.
“Noted. Can you sit back and hold your legs up for me babe?”
He lets go of his cock, gets comfortable and holds on to his knees. He swallows hard, chest heaving in anticipation.
“Ready for me, Har?” She asks.
“Yes, sweet girl.” She spreads some lube on his rosebud and just swirls her fingers around his entrance.
“Kiss me, Layla,” he pleads.
She envelopes her lips in his. Her tongue swipes along his bottom lip, and he grants her entrance. His tongue swirls around hers and she eases the tip of his middle finger inside him. He clenches around her.
“Okay?”
“Yeah,” he replies. He takes a deep breath and relaxes around her fingers. “Go deeper,” he says.
She grabs onto his cock and starts slowly pumping it as she pushes her middle finger inside him, getting one knuckle deep.
“Ah, shit. Feels good, Lails,” he cries. She retracts her finger and pushes in a few times, Harry’s eyes close as pleasure seeps over him.
“Little more lube please.”
She reaches for the bottle and squirts some more. “I’m gonna go a little bit deeper and when I do I want you to make yourself come okay?”
“Okay.” His palms wrap around his length and he starts tugging at it.
“Shit,” he breathes, eyes hooded when she gets in two knuckles deep and curls her finger.
“What if my finger gets stuck in there?” She blurts out. “It’d be a very humiliating trip to the hospital,” she giggles.
“Why would you even think about that, you fucking idiot?!?” Harry uses his other hand to flick her forehead.
“I don’t know.” She laughs and a snort escapes her mouth. This cracks the two up.
“Oh fuck, mum will come to know. How do we explain this to her?” He howls, tears escaping the corner of his eyes.
“We?!? Ah uh, it’s a you.”
“So you’ll leave me in an embarrassing situation?” He teases her.
“Definitely,” her giggles pick up.
“We’re so weird,” Layla manages to get out between her giggles.
“Agreed. Normal people would choose the route of dirty talk when a partner is knuckle deep in the other but here we are laughing.” He says as his laughter dies down.
“We’re such halfwits,” Layla says, after her giggles die down.
“That we are,” he agrees, wiping away the tears.
When they’ve settled down Layla starts working her finger in and out of him and Harry’s eyes flutter shut as burts of pleasure spreads through his body.
He blinks his lids open to see Layla looking down at him, brows furrowed in concentration, tongue slightly poking out as she moves her fingers, searching for the sweet spot like the articles have instructed to. Her eyes flick to his face ever so often trying to look for signs of discomfort.
This might be comical to an outsider but knowing that his sweet girl wants nothing more than to make this comfortable and make him feel good, makes the rubber band in his tummy become taut.
He gasps, when her finger brushes over a certain spot.
“Bingo,” she smirks.
She brushes the tips of his finger against it and a string of curses leaves his mouth, each time she rubs there.
“I’m gonna come. Keep doing that, baby,” he groans.
She smacks the hand that was stroking his cock out of the way. She bends down, wrapping her lips around his red tip, her middle finger constantly stimulating his prostate.
“Oh shit,” he moans out, loudly, as his toes curl.
She sucks hard as he comes in her mouth. His hands weave themselves in her hair. She detaches herself from his cock, when she sees his thighs tremble, and she’s sure she’s sucked him dry.
“Holy fuck,” he says, looking up at her face. She slowly removes her fingers from him, making him wince. She rubs his thigh as an apology.
She puts one finger up and goes to the bathroom to spit his come into the sink. She washes her hands and swishes some water in her mouth and spits it out.
“How was that?” She asks, coming to sit next to him on the bed.
“Incredible.”
“Did it hurt? Did I do okay?”
“Lails, I think I saw the fucking stars. Thank you baby.” He says, pecking her lips.
“No problem.”
////
The two were curled up in Harry’s sheets. Harry cleaned himself up and after he was done, Layla went in to do her skincare and Harry watched her sitting on the counter. After she was done the two brushed their teeth, in tandem.
When Harry walked into his room, after filling up a water bottle for Layla, his brain short circuits. When he sees her in his Harley Davidson t-shirt, bent over brushing out the knots in her hair. The tee rode up and her ass was fully on display with her thong.
He puts the bottle on the bedside table and climbs in bed, laying down to get the full show of her butt. When she’s done, she gets her hair in a very loose side braid.
He pulled her on top of him, wanting to feel her weight on him. His hand finds its way under his tee, and his fingertips dances on her spine.
“How are you hard again?” Layla giggles against his neck, feeling his erection poking her thigh through his briefs.
“Lails, your ass was on full display less than five minutes ago,” he says playfully.
“Oh it’s all my fault now is it?” She asks playfully, kissing the tip of his nose.
“Obviously,” he plays along, hands coming to grab at her ass.
She wiggles, adjusting so their cores are aligned. “Well since it’s all my fault, I think it’s only fair I do something about it.”
He grunts when she rolls her mound on him. “Agreed but I’m more than willing to help,” he says.
He twists, so she’s under him. He peels off her thong and she uses her feet to get rid of his briefs. He intertwines his hands in her and brings it next to her head. He splotches wet kisses along her jaw and neck, as he grinds against her.
“Harryyy,” she whines.
“Need me inside you, sweet girl?” He asks, rubbing his nose against hers.
“Yeah.”
He lines his tip and nudges her clit a few times with his tip.
“Don’t tease, you jerk,” he says impatiently.
He chuckles. “Hang on a moment.” He moves to get a condom from his bedside drawer. He gets it open, pinching the tip and rolling down his length. He then gets some lube and spreads it on the condom.
“Okay where were we?” He asks, hovering over her. His fingers come down to play with her clit, making sure she’s wet while he supports his weight using one of his forehand.
“Nugh,” she breathes.
“Ready, Lails?”
She nods as he lines himself against her entrance and slowly sinks in. A breathy moan escapes her mouth and Harry lets out a breath against her cheek. He stills for a moment, waiting for her to adjust. Her hands come to grip his ass and she pushes him deeper, asking him to move.
He picks up her cue and slowly starts rocking in and out of her. Pulling out all the way, until only his head is in, and pushing back in all the way bottoming out, his balls touching her ass.
Her hands grab at his love handles and trails up his back. And Harry buries his face in her neck, kissing it every so often as he maintains a sweet unhurried phase.
Another wave of fervent adoration crashes in Harry’s chest, and it brings tears to his eyes.
“Hey, you okay? Hurts?” Layla asks, pulling his head up to scan his face, when she feels a wetness pool against her neck.
“No no. It feels so good. You make me feel so good,” he says softly. Making her smile shyly at him. He kisses her, and adjusts her hips to the side to nudge her g spot. She gasps. Her hands go to clutch at the sheets.
“Nope,” Harry whispers against her lips. “Want your hands on me at all times, sweet girl.” He grabs her hands and greedily brings them back on his waist.
He begins slowly rolling his hips against hers. Layla bends her leg knee and parts so he can get in easier.
She breathes out as his cock nudges against her sweet spot. Harry buries his face against his neck. Soft sounds and jagged breaths accompany their gentle rhythm.
One particular thrust has Layla tightening around him. Her eyes scrunches shut and her hands grab onto his shoulders. Harry follows suit, kissing her neck, as he empties into the condom.
////
Harry can’t help but wonder about the wave of feeling he keeps experiencing. It only happens around Layla and by the looks of it’s becoming quite frequent. He thinks back to the conversation he had with his mum. He’d just made love to her. He’s never made love before, he’s had sex before but this was different. Very different.
He was definitely falling deeper and deeper into the abyss alright.
“Seven,” Layla whispers, interrupting his thoughts. He was laying in her stomach, facing him. Harry was laying on his side, facing her.
“What?”
“I kept a tally. You called me sweet girl seven times while we were having sex.” She gives him a satisfactory smile.
“I don’t not just call you sweet girl during sex,” he mutters, tucking a rouge strand of hair behind her ear as she yawns.
“I think the seven would disagree,” she mumbles sleepily.
“You're such a menace, you dickhead.” He leans and kisses her forehead.
LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK SO FAR!

Morning Chat
Part 3 of my Kanej Neighbours AU
[Read on AO3]
Ship: Kaz Brekker X Inej Ghafa
Summary:
Modern AU
Inej and her neighbour Kaz have an early morning chat on their balconies..
Note:
It's in Inej's PoV :3
Hope you guys enjoy ♥
Tumblr media
Inej spreads out a crimson mat on the floor of her balcony and stands on it facing the east. She relaxes herself, adjoines her feet and inhales slowly, bringing out her arms together from their sides. Then, with a soft exhale, joins her palms together in front of her chest in the praying position.
“Om Mitraaya Namaha”, She chants as she takes another inhale of breath.
Surya Namaskar, an integral part of yoga is what she has incorporated into her daily lifestyle since its good for health and well, makes her feel connected to her roots.
She breathes in again, lifting up her arms whilst making sure her biceps are touching her ears and pushes out her pelvis slightly. She focuses on properly stretching her body into an arc. After moments she exhales back to normal standing position.
“Om Ravaye Namaha”, She says, inhaling again.
As she lets out her breath and bends forward from her waist, a clicking noise catches her ears, followed by the heavy shuffling of feet.
“Tell Anika to be on guard. I saw that sicko Oomen around the block last night.”
Inej immediately recognizes the rough burn of the voice, like stone grating against stone. It’s Kaz Brekker, the intriguing guy next door. She cranes her head to see him standing in his sleep wear just like her. His right palm is cradling a cellphone to his ear whilst the other is lazily nestled in his pocket. She hadn't expected anyone else to be up at 6 am. Most definitely not him. He seems like a "late to bed and late to rise" sort of person.
She shakes her head and returns her attention back to her routine. Performing the full twelve steps isn't mandatory but it won't be as effective if she stops midway to converse with her neighbour. Besides, he's busy on his phone and based on her two meetings with him last week, she has got the impression that he doesn't really enjoy socialising.
Her fingers are now touching the matted floor before her feet and she whispers with another breath in, “Om Suryaya Namaha”
“Also Rotty, go to the hospital and check up on Nina.”
Her neighbour goes completely silent after that and Inej realises his call must've ended. Was that a coworker he was dispensing orders to? Do private investigators even have coworkers? Her train of thoughts come to a halt when she stretches her right leg back, resting its knee to the floor. The left one stays in a crouching position and she arches her face up, her pupils instantly dilating in shock. Kaz is staring right at her with that familiar look of curiosity. She has seen plenty of that due to her apparently being from an “exotic” land. Yet for some reason, his gaze doesn't feel creepily intrusive or judgmental. Its more laced with mild interest.
He doesn't say anything and she knows its mostly because he isn't the type to greet people first. But a part of her believes its also because he doesn't want to disturb her regimen. She smiles and continues. After all, eight steps are still left to be performed.
Throughout her sequence, he watches her silently and when she is finally done, he asks, “Does everyone in your family do this?”
She can't help herself from giggling. “Good Morning to you too, Mr. Brekker.”
He frowns. “Stop calling me that.”
“Calling you what?” She teases. She knows exactly what he means.
“Mr. Brekker,” He emphasizes every syllable in annoyance. “Makes me feel old.”
She wants to tease him a little longer but she isn't sure if he'll tolerate anymore of it so she concedes. “Okay, Kaz.”
He blinks, as if assessing the utterance of his name from the lips of a neighbour he barely knows. However, his reaction returns to its usual collected one and he repeats his question. “Does everyone in your family do this?”
“Just me, every morning.”
“Every morning?”
“Yes, it reduces muscle tension, improves blood circulation and its–”
“Yeah yeah, I get it.”
“No seriously all gymnasts do it!”
He scoffs at that.
“Okay, you win. I'm actually working on improving my flexibility since you see,” She inches her face out towards him from her balcony and smiles conspiratorially, “I'm planning to break into your apartment.”
There's a momentary pause and Inej watches his expression switch from that of brief shock to genuine challenging. He smirks, now resting his arms on the railing and himself leans closer. “You won't succeed.”
Inej's eyes widen briefly. His dubious face was adorable when she had fed him an Indian sweet. His scowls and apathetic gazes had been equally fun to witness. But she finds that she likes this smirk more. Maybe if she tries harder she can even pry a smile out of this strange guy. She doesn't know why but she wants to.
Her smiling lips curve further into a full-fledged grin and she declares, “I can jump to your balcony right now.”
“Why don't you try?” He suggests, quirking a brow confidently.
Her palms clamp around the railing and she steps back. But seconds before she braces herself for the leap, a buzzing noise disturbs her. The moment shatters and Kaz's cellphone is the one to blame. He pulls it out and answers the call, going to the other side of his balcony.
She can still hear a loud incoherent shouting from his phone. Whoever it is, must have something important to tell. Kaz listens quietly for several minutes and then sighs wearily. “I’m coming. And Jes, call the cop. You know which one.”
He disconnects the call and turns back to her. His eyes seem conflicted so Inej makes it easier for him.
“Its alright,” She speaks, “Go.” And she means it. Its not like they're friends and he's obligated to explain himself.
He nods and turns to his door.
“Bye!” She waves a palm.
“Right. Bye..Inej.”
He's gone yet Inej stares blankly at the spot he had been just seconds ago. Hearing her own name in his gravelly tone has certainly done something to her heart. She shakes her head and tries to distract herself by resuming her exercises. She's being silly. It must be because she hasn't talked to many guys in her life. Yes! That must be all there is to it.

The Kennedy Question (SamBucky)
There's a... hypothesis. It's circulating around their tower and Sam just got to make sure. He needs a theory and for that, he needs data.
It's pretty straight forward actually. He just has to ask the right question to the right person.
He spots his subject - already on his fifth cup of coffee, sweat dampened hair tied up in a half-bun and he's unnaturally happy. Good. Doesn't matter why he's happy but the point is he is. Which means, this is the right time to strike.
Flexing his biceps for an extra load of umph, Sam tilts his chin up and walks towards their resident centenarians.
"Hiya, Sam," Steve greets, face split into a smile, clearly happy that his moody half is looking cheery today.
"Hiya," Sam waves, pulling up a chair next to his target.
Half an egg and a sip of orange juice later, Sam looks at Steve who's whistling a tune, doing dishes and decides this is the right time to strike.
He turns to his target. And he fires the shot.
"Did you kill John F. Kennedy?"
He'd carefully lowered his voice so Steve wouldn't hear it over the running water and it works. Of course it works. Sam has hung out with Steve and Co. for a very long time, he knows how to gossip behind super-soldiers back by now.
All of his preps pointed towards positive results. A warranted reply. Except of course, Sam forgot to consider the fact that Barnes likes to be an ass around him just for the sake of it.
Hence, the reply he receives is: "You focus on stuffing your face or you're gonna be next."
-
The thing is, it's not a clear yes or no. It's not enough to confirm or reject the hypothesis. The very mystery of it drives Sam insane.
-
"Did you -," he ducks, blocking a jab. Hops to the left, avoiding a kick. Bloody Barnes is out for his blood.
But Sam knows how to handle him.
He gets the guy in a headlock the very next second after Steve yelled "Bucky, chill out!"
"Did you kill him?"
Barnes tries to elbow but Sam knows his stuff, oooh, he knows his stuff bloody well. He'd trained the lot - teenagers running wild with hormone committing truancies and petty crimes, all the prison breakers - name them, Sam has got all under his wing.
He fucking knows his stuffs. So, it's no surprise to anyone but Barnes when he gets the man on his knees. Head-lock still standing and the momentary shock gives Sam the chance to ask again, "Did you?"
Barnes coughs, splutters and taps on his hand so Sam loosens his grip. "What you gonna do? Report it?" He snarls, spitting fire like he actually believed Sam would.
The sheer absurdity of that doubt makes Sam let go of him; drop him like a hot-pocket. "The fuck would I do that for?"
Barnes, red-faced and sweat slick skin, hair falling over his face, glowers at Sam.
Sam stares at him right back. Dunno what he's asking/searching, but Sam's not afraid. He meets that glare with his own steady stare.
"You honestly think I'd sell you out." He states. Doesn't ask. Because that isn't a question.
He doesn't know what to think that Barnes thought of him that way.
"Wouldn't have helped Steve save you, if that was the case, you know."
-
"Why d'ya wanna know?" Barnes asks.
He was the only one in the communal floor when Sam had walked in; channel surfing and Sam had nabbed the remote to his disgruntled protest before settling on Animal Planet. Humans are exhausting for a Tuesday evening.
Now, after half an hour of watching Giant Squid hunting with no Giant Squid sighting, Barnes ends the silence with a frankly, vague as fuck question.
Sam squints at him for a good minute before it clicks and he straightens up in his seat. "Curiosity?" He shrugs.
Barnes looks at him flatly.
Sam glances at the screen, still no Giant Squid (just making sure), then back at Barnes. "Really, I just want to know. Barton's been spreading rumours."
Barnes doesn't say it, but it's there. The universal 'stupid Barton' look that everyone in the tower has at least once, worn.
"Tell me about it," Sam chuckles, slumping in his side of the couch. Barnes is not gonna give an answer. At least not today. That much is certain so, Sam returns to the screen.
A while after, the commentators are getting hyped up, the background music is building in anticipation and they're about to do the big reveal when the channel switches to a bunch of blonde bimbos.
"Barnes!" Sam aims a kick because there is no other way -
Barnes is predictably, two seats away, smirking into his hoodie and clicks away at the buttons.
"I'm spiking your dinner with ghost pepper. You won't know until it hits you - Oooh, you're so gonna regret this. I fucking hate you!"
-
Sam does yoga. It's for his mental health. Dealing with Veterans and delinquents need constant maintenance of his mind palace and he gives that through yoga.
Sometimes, he does it alone but usually it's with Wanda and Vision. Tends to get incredibly awkward sometimes (who knew Androids have sexual frustrations) but hey, it gets the job done.
Occasionally, Dr Banner joins them. Rarely, he drags Tony along just to make the man suffer for promised science experiments or whatever it is geniuses do. Natasha has her sessions after them, something about "Not needing all these stupidity for my clarity", whatever, prissy ass she-assassin.
Steve, Steve's pal and Barton don't do it. They just don't. (Steve once mentioned something about biceps getting in his way or another and Sam stopped paying attention. Barton is just a lazy human.)
Thus why, Sam gawks when he sees Steve's pal, the other Steve or more specifically, Bucky Barnes in a dog pose next to Wanda.
First thought; what the fuck?
Second thought; nice ass.
Third thought; the fucking fuck is that fuck - what!?
Fourth thought; "That's my spot."
Two heads turn to Sam, one head's body waves while another grins.
"Hi, Sam," Wanda beams.
"Hullo, Sam," Vision stops waving only when Sam waves back.
But Sam's eyes are still fixed on that nice pair of ass no!
"That's my spot." He points at where Barnes is ignoring him; flowing through his Surya Namaskar like he was born doing it until he stands, facing Sam and he looks straight into Sam's eyes.
There's something dangerous glinting in them and Sam wastes too many seconds distracting his thoughts from how fucking gorgeous that flow was that he only realises, once Barnes is already in Savasana, just what that glint was about.
"Fuck you, Barnes," he spits, walking towards him, not a pause as he steps onto the mat, then right on top of Barnes's stupid hard chest and over to the other side of Wanda.
Vision graciously makes room for Sam and no. Sam is not letting Bucky fucking Barnes ruin his mind-palace maintenance today.
-
Sam doesn't hate the guy. He honestly doesn't. He just, doesn't know the guy that well.
So, when he sees Barnes fidgeting under the island counter, long sleeves drawn out to bury his fingers while Steve and Tony lash out at each other in the kitchen (no privacy respect, those two. No, never. Almost everyone knows about that by now but Barnes, maybe cause he's still new here.) Sam gently elbows at his side and jerks his head towards the exit.
"They're always like that," he tells the guy solemnly. Hot aroma of coffee wafting in the air and Sam breathes it in deeply.
"Always?"
"Uh, huh."
He takes a sip of his cappuccino, watching Barnes stare at his black coffee gloomily.
Ten seconds later, Barnes asks, "If Stark hates Steve, then why is he letting him live in his place?" Letting me live in his place? Is the unasked question.
Sam takes a long sip before he replies. "Stark doesn't hate Steve," he observes the way Barnes' forehead wrinkle into a frown before it quickly flattened out. Erasing evidence. From everywhere except his eyes.
Sam doesn't know how he knows that nor is he going to analyse said matter, so he distracts himself by elaborating his answer.
"Stark never hated Steve. As a matter of fact, I think Stark likes Steve a little too much for his convenience."
This time, the frown stays and deepens. Sam grabs a napkin and shreds a strip out of its edge.
"You mean, he fancies Stevie?" Barnes mumbles his question towards his untouched coffee. Face contorting fifty ways different and Sam curses himself for even saying a thing in the first place. He can preach to many but he's not having the gay rights talk with a homophobic. That's where he officially draws his line.
To his surprise however, Barnes starts laughing.
It starts as a snort then grows into a chuckle and later a full-blown beautiful laughter. Fuck, dammit, Sam has got to stop thinking like that of this man.
But the steam from his still hot cappuccino swirling under the dim light of the cafe with its dark red background and velvety purple overthrows and cushions and Barnes in the mainframe with all those in the backdrop -
He's beautiful. There is no denying it. Happiness looks gorgeous on everyone and it especially looks stunning on Bucky Barnes.
"Never thought I'd see a day someone go ape-shit over Stevie, but here I am," Barnes chuckles, crinkled eyes, glazed with mirth swirling and molten grey. He's fucking gorgeous and Sam's heart restarts with a new rhythm.
Indeed, "Here you are."
-
Sam sits, and he thinks.
All he ever wanted was an answer to a simple question. That’s it. He didn’t ask for the moon or dream of fucking Captain America like Tony Stark and yet here he is. Four months after his first time asking the question; from not knowing the guy at all to somehow tolerating him and surprise, surprise, now he’s in a sticky crush situation with the guy.
Hell, no wonder Tony is the way he is with Steve. This whole crushing on super-soldiers is frustrating as fuck and Sam hates it.
In fact, he doesn’t even deserve it.
All he wanted was an answer. To a single simple question. Sam refuses to pine after Bucky Barnes for the price of solving Kennedy’s murder. He’s better than that. He can solve the mystery without selling his heart.
Sam decides this is the final straw and he isn’t having it anymore. He’s going to end it all.
-
“Did you or did you not kill John F. Kennedy?”
“Good afternoon to you too, Sammie,” Bucky Barnes grins, black hoodie and black pants, sitting cross-legged on the couch as he tosses an unopened bag of chips for Sam to catch. “Mario kart or are you finally brave enough to play The Last of Us Part 2?”
“Don’t call me that,” Sam grumbles, marching his way to the empty spot next to Barnes and plopping down. “It’s not about bravery. The reviews aren’t so good -,”
“I read them all. General opinion is still positive. You better hurry up, I’m running out of ways to stop Barton from spoiling it.”
The thought that Barnes is waiting for Sam to start on something is disconcerting. In a warm, fuzzy, heart palpitating way. So, Sam pops the chips’ bag open and stuffs a handful into his mouth in an attempt to drown out the feels with an obnoxiously loud CRUNCH.
“Is that why you throttled him last night?”
“No,” Barnes drawls lazily, leaning into Sam’s space to fish out a chip and pops it into his mouth. “That’s because he ate the last brownie.”
“Bruce’s?”
Barnes nods, wiping his finger over his pants and continuing to fiddle with the remote.
“Fair enough,” Sam declares. Then an idea pops up. “I’ll play that game if you answer my question.”
Barnes seems to know which one. His shoulders tense, squaring up and he seems to curl inwards, shrinking into his hoodie and Sam hates himself for causing this. “You don’t have to if you don’t want to,” he blurts out. Anything to draw Barnes out of that state.
Shamefully, he wonders if this is what they meant by ‘simping’. God, he’s weak for this man and that’s ridiculously unfair.
Regardless, his words seem to work their miracle because Barnes relaxes, shoulders sagging and Sam feels his own tension bleed. The silence stretches uncomfortably for a while until all Sam could think is to not flex his fingers because that would crinkle the plastic bag and it would be loud and that would win the Guinness World Awkward Award.
Then, Barnes speaks. He’s still facing away, at the TV, and he scratches the back of his head through the hoodie as he asks quietly, “Can I ask you a question in return?”
Sam blinks. He minces his reflexive ‘You just asked’ and shrugs, “Sure.”
Exactly thirteen heartbeats after, Barnes asks, “Do you fancy men, Sammie?”
Sam’s throat goes dry. Something clenches in his chest, warning him about his own thoughts in the Cafe about not willing to explaining gay-rights to a homophobic. But he also remembers Barnes’ reaction to finding out Tony liking Steve like that. Especially Barnes’ laughter.
“Yeah,” Sam says, “I like both women and men.”
“A bisexual,” Barnes nods into his hoodie. As if he’s recalling something he read only yesterday. He probably is.
Sam pulls in a breath and sinks into his seat. He pulls out a chip and pops it into his mouth. “Anything else?”
He’s not ready when Barnes turns towards him. He’s mid-munch, chips still sharp shards that poke at his tongue when he meets grey eyes full of intent. But he swallows them anyway. Barnes’ unabashed and fearless, staring straight into Sam’s eyes as he pops the question that makes Sam’s palms and soles tickle.
“Do you wanna step out with me?”
Sam is 100% sure he croaks when he opens his mouth to say, “I’ll only say yes if you tell me whether you killed Kennedy or not.”
Barnes’ lips wobble and he ducks his head. Shoulders shaking when he looks up again with a beatific grin split across his face; gorgeous fucker. And he answers, “I don’t know, I don’t remember.”
“Doesn’t matter,” Sam mutters, already grabbing him by his nape and he pulls him in to kiss that gorgeous happiness on his face. “Don’t care.” Another kiss, “Who cares?” Another “Dude’s dead anyway.”
Barnes laughs, head tipping back, body leaning to fall and Sam goes down with him gladly.

Half Moon and the Downward Facing Dog
Chapter 1/3 : Dignity
Read here on AO3
Tuesday had Sirius travelling from Stretford to an address that Lily provided him with the night before. It led to a fitness studio in central Manchester, where they planned to meet before yoga. Lily booked the class for herself and Sirius a week prior, omitting James- probably for his own safety. Sirius stuffed his restless hands into pockets and leaned against the motorbike. Yoga was a completely new concept for him, and he was feeling a little fidgety about it. Balancing on one leg required almost as much concentration as calculus and trying to reach his toes would probably break Sirius’ back. But he promised he wouldn’t chicken out. Besides, Lily was right. As an aspiring marathon runner, he would benefit from some stretching.
It wasn’t long until Lily’s silver fuck-knows-what-make car was parked, and the redhead herself graced him with her presence. Sirius took his helmet off the handlebars and met her in a hug.
‘’Hey handsome.’’ She greeted, ‘’have you been waiting long?’’
‘’Hey. No, not at all. How are you?’’
‘‘I’m very excited! This instructor is phenomenal, and I have been dying to go to one of his classes since his visit at QPitch.’’
‘’So I’ve heard,’’ Sirius teased, flashing her a cheeky grin.
That, indeed, was true. After the guest class, Lily arrived home with a prepared rant that lasted the entire dinner. Sirius and James learned all about the passion he had for yoga, how much of that passion showed in class, the love he displayed towards teaching, the careful motivation he applied towards his students- and much, much more. Lily’s enthusiasm was so inspiring, Sirius didn’t even know when some of it crept into him. Before he realised what exactly Lily was asking, he was agreeing to go to one of his classes with her whenever the opportunity arrived. And well, it arrived. Sooner than expected.
The studio was active with students stretching and warming up on their mats. Lily took a spot near the front and gestured for Sirius to follow. He would much rather to sit at the back, hidden away from any possible attention or embarrassment he might bring himself, but staying close to Lily seemed like a more comforting idea.
‘’Lily, should we be warming up?’’ Sirius asked. Everyone in the studio looked like they knew exactly what to do. Even the guy doing some kind of supported head stand looked like he fully intended to get himself in that position. It looked terrifying.
‘’Don’t worry, Remus goes through full body warm up before anything else.’’
‘’Right, okay. What’s this lady doing? Is that good for your back?!?’’
‘’Upward plank pose. Her back is fine, Sirius.’’ Lily laughed as Sirius stared at the lady in horror, her chest arching towards the ceiling. It didn’t look the least bit comfortable.
‘’As if a normal plank wasn’t cruel enough,’’ he muttered.
The door opened and Sirius turned to the front to focus on calming his nerves before he was asked to bend over backwards. Possibly literally.
‘’Hello! How’s everyone today?’’
The newcomer’s back was turned to the class as he unpacked his duffle bag. A few people replied with a lively hello, but Sirius remained quiet. The man glanced around the room as he made his way to the front, smiling when his gaze fell on various people, including Lily. Sirius’ breath hitched when the man’s hazel eyes briefly scanned his face, and he turned to look at the floor in front of him instead.  The man was gorgeous, there was no denying that. But Sirius wasn’t here to admire his golden curls or toned legs or the way he was now removing his hoodie to reveal a loose tank top. No, Sirius definitely didn’t have his eyes glued to his arms now.
‘‘My name is Remus, and I’ll be guiding you through today’s class,’’ Remus. What a peculiar name. Not that Sirius got to talk, of course. ‘’I see a few new faces today, welcome, and welcome back to the rest of you who I had the pleasure of meeting before.’’ He was smiling kindly as he spoke, and Sirius felt his worries slowly fade as he listened.
Remus paused to take in the faces in the studio before continuing. ‘‘If this is your first class with me, or even better- first yoga class ever- I just want to assure you that there is no need to be scared. This is a place of acceptance and kindness, and questions are encouraged if you are unsure of anything. We will do simple poses, but I will also show more advanced variations if you wish to try them.’’
Well, this was okay, right? He’ll just stick to the simple stuff.
‘‘I would like to remind everyone to never push yourself into a position that causes sharp pain or discomfort. A little of dull pain is okay but stop immediately if you feel any sharp pain at all.’’
‘’Sorry, what’s the difference?’’ Someone from the back asked, and Sirius thanked them mentally. He had no idea what the difference was, either.
‘’Great question, thank you for asking! A sharp pain feels like a paper cut. It’s this uncomfortable ache that is usually felt quickly and immediately. A dull pain isn’t as uncomfortable. It’s a little like pressing into a muscle,’’ Remus demonstrated by pressing his palm into the top of his thigh, ‘‘not exactly how it feels but it will give you a sense of what to look out for. In either circumstance, remember to only go as far as you can. We are not here to acquire injuries.’’
Sirius could see now why Lily spoke so highly of Remus. The man clearly knew what he was talking about, and the way he addressed the students was captivating and assuring. No doubt, anyone would feel comfortable in his class.
‘‘Does that make sense?’’ The lady who asked the question nodded, just as mesmerized as Sirius was. ‘‘Great! So, before we start. I will be walking around the class to make sure everyone is doing okay. In case I need to correct anyone’s poses, can I get a show of hands of who would not like to be touched?’’
A few hands went up. Remus immediately took note of everyone with their hands up and consulted them individually.
‘‘All good so far, Sirius?’’ He heard Lily’s voice from his side and turned to face her.
‘‘Yeah,’’ he whispered back, ‘‘but why didn’t you tell me he’s this hot?’’
Lily chucked and turned her attention back to Remus, who was making his way to the front of the studio again.
‘’We’ll first focus on breath control, or Pranayama, which will be incorporated into everything else we do today. No matter what’s happening, it is never good to forget to breathe.’’ The class chuckled. Remus sat cross legged on the floor, bringing one hand to his chest and the other to his stomach. ‘‘Following my position, inhale through the nose for four counts, and exhale through the mouth for four counts.’’
Sirius followed by placing his hands on the relevant body parts and straightened his back. Sitting hunched over definitely wasn’t very attractive, especially in a yoga class.
Remus began to count through his breath, with eyes closed and complete calmness written all over his face. The studio was silent, save for the sounds of breathing, and Sirius suddenly wondered when was the last time he ate. He would probably die of embarrassment if his stomach growled.
‘’Great job everyone, lets move on to one more breath control exercise before we start warming up. Anuloma Viloma, or, alternative nostril breathing, purifies the energy channels through the right and left nostrils. It stimulates the movement of prana, or breath.’’ Remus’ tone was strong and focused as he explained basics of breathing. Listening to him was fascinating, even when he spoke about breathing in yoga terms. ‘‘To achieve the Vishnu Mudra hand position, curl your index and middle fingers down, while keeping your ring finger and pinkie pointing upwards.’’
This was easier said than done. Sirius’ ring finger kept involuntarily bending and curling while his thumb reached to hold the other two fingers down. He glanced towards Remus to compare the hand positions, but they looked nothing alike. Remus noticed his struggle and crept forward. The man didn’t even need to stand up - sitting almost opposite to Sirius - and in a second, he was holding down Sirius’ fingers.
‘’There. Use your other fingers to help yourself if you need to, but once we start the exercise it will be a lot easier. All good?’’ Sirius snapped back into reality as Remus’ fingers left a cold spot on his now bare hands. Oh god, was he staring at Remus fixing his fingers? That even sounded wrong.
‘’Y- Yeah, I think I got it. Thanks.’’ He smiled in an attempt to mask his flush, forcing his mind to focus on his own fingers. Remus retreated to his spot and continued the exercise.
‘’The exercise is simple from here on. Bring your hand to your face, the two curled fingers under your nose. Close one of the nostrils with your thumb, and inhale through the other. Hold your breath for four counts by squeezing both your nostrils shut and then exhale though the other nostril, holding the other closed with your ring finger and pinkie.’’ Remus must have noticed the confused faces because he proceeded to demonstrate the technique step by step, explaining again as he did so.
The studio broke out in raspy breathing as everyone began the exercise. Sirius did his best to successfully purify his energy channels and stimulate prana, feeling like he was running out of air for the first minute or so. The feeling eased with time and eventually the exercise became more comforting than he expected.
‘‘Alright, lets get warm. Everyone, please, sit back and stretch your legs out in front of you. Flex your feet back as far as you can, and then point your toes towards the floor. And again, well done. One more time!’’
Remus demonstrated each exercise, body part by body part. Lily was right, he covered everything. By the time warmup was over, Sirius’ heart has sped up and he felt well prepared for whatever antics he would be doing. They began with sun salutation A, or Surya Namaskar. Remus explained that they will do a beginner’s friendly variation, with optional additions for anyone who would like to do a little extra and proceeded to show the first pose.
The mountain pose, Tadasana, for four breaths, followed by a stretch into an upward salute, or Urdhva Hastasana, also for four breaths. Each pose was to be held for this long, or longer if anyone needed a few extra seconds. The next pose had a variation for those a little more advanced. Sirius glanced at Lily and saw her torso pressed flat against her legs, looking like she had folded herself in half. The easier version of that was basically touching your toes, and Sirius immediately worried about his back. With the tips of his fingers about five inches from the floor, and breath as ragged as if he just ran a marathon, he glanced up towards the mirror and caught Remus’ eye. He could have sworn the man smirked before immediately correcting his expression. Sirius, with his ass up in the air, was in no position to protect his dignity. He let it go.
‘‘Remember what I said about breathing,’’ Remus’ whisper came from somewhere beside him. ‘’In through the nose, out through the mouth. You’ll get dizzy breathing like you do now.’’
Remus stayed at his side, breathing with him, until he was satisfied with Sirius’ rhythm.
‘‘Good. Now, grab your calves with your hands and slowly try to pull your torso towards your legs. Remember to watch out for any pain.’’
God, he was stiff. But Remus’ advice did help, as his head inched closer towards his knees. It was nowhere near where Lily was, but any progress is still progress, right? Not to mention Lily has been doing yoga for years. He congratulated himself mentally, a slight bit of dignity coming back to him, until he remembered he is still bent in a crooked half - right in front of the attractive instructor. Dignity, it was nice knowing ya.
‘‘Keep it up, you’re doing great.’’ And Sirius swore he heard a smile in Remus’ voice. Is there such a thing as negative dignity? He sure felt it.
Remus walked back to his spot and got into the same position that Sirius was in, but better.
‘‘We will go into a low lunge pose next,’’ Great, Sirius thought. Now we have lunges, ‘‘so take a large step back with your right foot, careful not to kick anyone behind you, and raise your head and chest enough to take deeps breaths.’’
Remus scanned the class without correcting anyone.
‘‘Great. If you want to test your balance, you can stretch your arms above your head and straighten your back.’’ Remus looked at Sirius questioningly, and Sirius decided against his better judgement to try his luck. Or balance, for that matter. Straightening his back a little further, he lifted himself up until the tips of his fingers were barely touching the floor. Breathing. He had to breathe, that’s what Remus said, otherwise he’ll get dizzy and probably fall. Once his breath was under control, he lifted himself up on wobbly feet, and slowly reached up into the stretch that Remus was demonstrating.
His head was at enough of an angle to obstruct a direct view of Remus, but Sirius could still see him watching from the corner of his eye. Remus was probably checking if Sirius is falling in case he hit his head and needed assistance or something, but Sirius was weirdly glad. He held the position steadily despite his legs pretending to be jelly, which bloomed a sparkle of pride in his chest.
‘’You’re all doing brilliant!’’ Remus smiled. ‘‘Now we’ll work backwords until we get to mountain pose again. Bring your hands back to the floor, step out with your left foot to join your right and lift your hips up. This is the downward facing dog, and it is often seen as the resting position in sun salutation. Feel free to stay in downward facing dog for a few extra breaths, we are halfway through the sequence now.’’
Sirius thought Remus had an interesting sense of humour. Ass in the air and breathe deeply. Maybe in different circumstances that would be more comfortable.
The second half of sun salutation A went smoothly. Remus instructed them to work backwords from what they just did as he continued alongside them. Back at the mountain pose, Sirius felt like nothing could surprise him.
And for a while, nothing did. They did a few basic poses such as the tree pose, each of the warrior poses and their modifications, and a wide legged forward bend. Sirius was accustomed to being in an ass up position by now. Lily was flying smoothly through everything and doing all the variations and modifications that Remus suggested, and it was no longer discouraging. Sirius felt motivated watching her and Remus being a spectacle of yoga.
Remus kept glancing at him more often than at anyone else. Even Lily noticed it and nudged him discreetly after a particularly extended glance during one of the warrior poses. Sirius didn’t think too much of it, but it still caused a faint blush to creep at the back of his neck every time he caught Remus’ eye.
‘‘We are almost at the end of our class, but before we cool down, I would like you to challenge yourself a little with one more pose. The eagle pose, or Garudasana, is also a beginner pose but it is a little more ambitious, especially if you want to proceed into its modification.’’ Remus explained the pose while tangling his long limbs all around his body and proceeding into the modification while everyone observed. When it was their turn, Sirius was confident in his abilities and began to wrap his hands and legs around. Unfortunately, his confidence only lasted until he was fully tangled and shaking dangerously on his left foot. The pose didn’t allow for much movement and untangling oneself didn’t seem to be as simple as Sirius had thought, which became very apparent as he began to lose balance. Torso tilted to the left, Sirius was bracing himself for the impact of hard floor when he felt two hands on his shoulders, stabilising him. He didn’t recall closing his eyes, but it must have been somewhere between ‘oh shit’ and ‘I’m going to die’. Opening them, he looked into the mirror and saw a smiling Remus standing behind, holding him in place.
‘‘Thanks,’’ he chuckled, not taking his eyes off Remus in the mirror.
‘‘Do you want to have a go at the modification?’’ Remus asked, ‘‘I can help you.’’
Sirius nodded. Clearly, he missed being bent in half with his ass in the air. Remus grabbed him firmly by his upper arms as Sirius leaned forward to touch his elbows to his knees. He stayed down for four deep breaths, having breath control drilled into his mind at this stage, and looked up to find Remus watching him in the mirror. He was smiling down proudly, and Sirius wondered what the hell made him so happy before he realised that Remus was no longer supporting him. Chucking, he began to rise back to a standing position, successfully losing his balance and stumbling off to the side. He didn’t hit the ground, as expected, but managed to pull himself upright where he could once again pretend he had dignity.
‘’That was amazing. A bit of practise and I’ll consider you my competition,’’ Remus grinned, and the class laughed at the comment. Sirius glanced around at the small audience watching the exchange.
‘‘Thanks, but I would have landed on my face if you haven’t helped. I may need a class or two more to get to your level,’’ he quipped, which earned him a laugh out of Remus. He could have melted right there and then. Remus’ laugh was genuine, kind, and Sirius felt warm and fuzzy just listening to it. He wouldn’t mind hearing it again.
Remus helped a few other people with the modification, kind as he was, but never staying with one person for long. The cooling down part consisted of basic stretches, shaking out their arms and legs, and some more deep breathing. Sirius felt very oxygenated.
‘‘I’m afraid that concludes today’s class,’’ Remus addressed the studio. ‘‘It was a pleasure having you all here, thank you for taking part today and being as amazing as you were. Before we go, however, I would like to inform you that I am currently organising another slot in my timetable, which means I am taking on new students.’’
Remus’ eyes found Sirius’ and he didn’t look away.
‘’If you are interested in joining me, I can take your details today and have you booked straight away.’’ Remus moved his gaze to the rest of the class, but Sirius’ didn’t flinch. ‘‘Alternatively, you can book online before next week, for as long as there’s spaces. Thank you all for coming!’’
Sirius began to gather his things as he planned how to approach Remus about his classes. There was no doubt he will be joining. With a man like Remus leading the class, he would join anything. And he did feel great, like Lily said he would. Maybe he’ll go for a run once he’s back at home, the track up the hill that he often avoids. He felt ready for anything.
‘‘So, did you like it?’’ Lily pulled him out of his thoughts.
‘’I loved it, Lils! I am definitely signing up for the classes, will you go with me?’’
‘’I can’t, love. I have my programme back in QPitch for another 2 months. But you should definitely go!’’ Lily winked, and he waved her off, taking a drink out of his water.
There was a small crowd of students surrounding Remus, undoubtfully asking about joining his classes, so Sirius stood back and waited for the group to dismantle before approaching. He bid goodbye to Lily, who hurried back home to her son and husband, promising to see Sirius for dinner over the weekend and he made his way towards Remus once he was no longer surrounded.
‘‘Hi, I wanted to ask about your classes?’’ God, he sounded awkward.
‘‘Hey. Yeah, of course. What would you like to know?’’ Remus questioned.
Well shit. His smug plan has already failed him.
‘‘I, uhh... I wanted to join. If that’s okay?’’
Remus grinned, leaning back on the wall behind him, and Sirius had a weird sense that he was enjoying his suffering. ‘’That is indeed okay. Do you want me to take your details now?’’
‘‘Yeah, make a Yogi out of me, eh?’’
‘’Let’s get down to business then,’’ Remus handed him a list of names and contact details, followed by a health declaration form, and Sirius filled in all the necessary bits. Remus watched him, and with no one else present in the studio, he felt Remus’ full attention envelop him.
‘’Sirius Black.’’ Remus observed once Sirius filled all the forms and ticked all the boxes. ‘’I like it. It will be nice to not be the only one in class with an unusual name.’’
‘‘You name is pretty,’’ he blurted before he could stop himself. And really? Pretty? Yeah, it was but that thought should have stayed inside Sirius’ head.
Remus smiled, apparently unfazed. ‘‘I’m glad you think so. Usually I get weird looks, and questions about Romulus.’’
‘‘Romulus? Who’s Romulus?’’
‘’According to a Roman myth, he’s my twin brother.’’ Remus snickered, ‘’but I’m really glad you don’t know it.’’
‘‘I have a whole week to read about it, I’ll do my homework!’’ Sirius watched Remus cover his face in fake exasperation. He was smiling when he moved to pack up the documents and begin to get dressed to leave. Sirius’ internal groan at the loss of sight of Remus’ toned arms almost made it out, and he covered it up by clearing his throat. ‘’I will see you next week then, I guess. Thanks for doing this class, I’m really glad I came today.’’
Remus studied him for a moment and smiled a genuine and kind smile, ‘’I’m glad you came today too. Have a wonderful week, Sirius.’’
With a quick glance back, Sirius made his way out of the studio and towards his motorbike.
Home. Run. Dinner.
And seven more days until he gets to see Remus again.

10 Simple Ways To Live A Healthy and Happy Life
Tumblr media
In Today’s world of numerous innovations and latest technologies, we are living a life without life. Most of us are extremely busy round the clock rushing towards our dreams, career goals, improving finances etc. All these might give you success and happiness in the long run. But what if we start to live a healthy and happy life everyday ?
It is totally possible but we need to put in our little efforts in implementing it. You need not make big resolutions to improve your life. There are many tiny and simple changes you can make at any time. To lead a healthy and happy life does not require any money or time – just a strong desire, motivation and consistency.
Now, Let’s get into various aspects to live a healthy and happy life everyday.
Healthy food plays a major role
Food has a higher level of impact in our everyday life. A healthy balanced diet can keep your mind and body healthy and active throughout the day. Make sure the food you take consists of all the nutrients required to your body. It is vital that you do not skip your meals in a day, especially breakfast.
Plan to include vitamin-packed superfoods in your diet. Try including salmon, avocados, broccoli, mushrooms, beans, walnuts, beans and whole grains in your diet. In fact, this can also improve your immunity, brain function and helps you to maintain a healthy body weight.
Avoid eating junk foods, foods which are highly spicy, oily and sugary on a regular basis. Doing all this will automatically make your way towards a healthy and happy life.
Positive attitude is the key
Start your day with good positivity. Feel good about yourself and be thankful to every minute aspect of your life. Doing this brings happiness into your life and helps you to achieve your goals. Positive attitude increases your faith in your abilities and brings hope for a brighter future.
This also lowers your levels of stress, depression and increases your productivity. Optimism can also improve your immunity and give you a better psychological and physical well-being.
“Me” time is very essential
It is very crucial for every individual to take out time for themselves irrespective of their busy schedules. In this time, you need to focus only on yourself completely. Do what makes you feel happy.
Whether it could be something related to improving your physical health, mental health, following a few beauty tips for a good looking appearance or anything for that matter. The goal is to make yourself happy by doing what makes you happy.
Focus on your favorite hobbies to increase your creativity. Plan mini vacations to recharge your mind and body. You can also hike at a nearby park with friends and family to get some fresh air, exercise and social interaction.
Making memories
Connect with your loved ones once a week. You can either meet them personally or else you can just make a phone call or a video call in case you don’t have much time. These interactions with your friends or family members will make your bond much stronger than before.
In your tough times, these relationships will make you stay optimistic and remember that you are not alone in this journey. You can also plan for outings, vacations, lunch or dinner parties and many more.
Try to make as many memories as possible with your loved ones, as we all know that life is short and unpredictable.
Physical activities will keep you fit
Fitness activities will boost your confidence levels. Because when you do some fitness activities every day to keep yourself fit, you will look great with a properly toned and structured body which will ultimately lead to improving your self confidence.
It is also a proven fact that physical activities increase the endorphins( happy hormones) in your brain. Therefore this further helps you to  lead a happy life and reduces the risk of belly fat and chronic diseases such as heart strokes, cancers, diabetes etc.
Choose your favorite workout which gives you most of the joy and fun. Have consistency when it comes to reaching your fitness goals.
Explore spirituality
The term spirituality can be understood in simple terms. It is nothing but knowing the real meaning of life and reflecting on who you are as a person. People generally visit temples, churches or any other spiritual places to find peace and calmness.
This will not only improve your mental health but also gives you inner peace. Practice meditation everyday as this can induce feelings of calm and clear-headedness. Mindfulness meditation in particular has been proven helpful for people with anxiety, depression, stress, cancer and diabetes etc.
Feel gratitude for all the blessings of life in your prayers. This will attract more and more abundance in your life.
Learn to give
Not everyone is blessed with everything. The things which we are bored with and feel useless can be treated as valuable gifts to someone else. Start helping people in all the possible ways. It doesn’t matter even if your help is small or big but always find ways to give to others.
Stop to talk to someone and lend your ear, offer to assist a friend in need or volunteer at a local charity. Make a habit of helping people at least once a month. This will give you a sort of self-satisfaction and inner peace and happiness leading to a happy life.
You will also begin to view your own problems with a new perspective, and you will feel better about yourself by realizing that you can make a difference in the lives of others.
Spend time with nature
Nature is an incredible wonder that inspires all of us. Spending time with nature can be one of the most relaxing things. Enjoy each and every movement of nature. Feel the fresh breeze, pay attention to the sounds, smells and sights.
There are many lessons we can learn from nature if you keenly observe it. We will instinctively know that being in nature enhances our health, immunity and happiness. Exposure to nature has many benefits including
Improved attention
Lower stress
Better mood
Reduced risk of psychiatric disorders and even upticks in empathy and cooperation.
Go outside for at least 15 minutes at least to get some sun on your face. The sun helps your body produce vitamin D which is very essential to our body.
Cleanse your home and mind
Little cleaning everyday can make you feel better and improve your mood. Declutter your bedroom for a more comfortable and relaxing place to sleep. Clean your closet and your dresser drawers to make the mornings easier. There are plenty of places in your home and office that you can tidy up.
Set at least 15-30 minutes of time everyday in order to cleanse and organize your things in a proper manner. Cleansing your mind is also important to improve your mental health. Focus only on the things which matter the most rather than focusing on the issues which mess up your mind and make you feel burdened.
Practice meditation, yoga, surya namaskar etc. to feel better and to get rid of unnecessary thoughts running in your mind. Relax for at least one hour before bed time to clear your mind and fill it up with positivity.
This habit will make a path towards your happy life and you will be amazed at how great you begin to feel as your life becomes less cluttered.
Be brave to deal with your problems
We all have our own problems in our life. Nobody in this world exists without problems. But to what extent are we allowing these to affect us totally depends on the individuals. Respond to the situation rather than reacting to it.
Sit down peacefully in a place and think about your issue and analyze what could be the best solution for it in all the possible ways. Otherwise you can also take a pen and paper to note down the key points of your problem and then analyze the ways of solving it.
Remember that you are not alone in this journey as everyone of us has to deal with the same circumstances at some point or the other. Be strong, think positive and never hesitate to share them with the people you trust and take their advice if required.
Conclusion
If you want to change your life and make it a healthy and happy life then make these necessary changes to see the results. It might not be possible to implement all the things at a time, take it one after another as per your feasibility.
Choose your favorite items in this list and start it off. Do not forget to note down the progress after following these changes to identify the difference between the life you had and life you are having at present.

Sarcastic StarBharat Reviews-Episode 13: Even more Dhritrashtra drama
The episode begins with Bhishm standing at the bank of Ganga. He joins his hands and Ganga makes a prakat. “Pranaam, mata,” “You’ve come back to your mother today, son,” Ah, Ganga, in scenes like these, you almost make me forget it is canonical that you drowned 7 of your sons. Anyway, Bhishm is Mr. Paragon of Perfection, remember? So he says, “No, mata. I am here to bathe in your sacred waters and cleanse myself of my sins.” “You are my son, Bhishm, you cannot sin.” Excuse me? What was that kidnapping thing then? The Niyog idea? Ah, well, paragon of perfection, indeed. “But I have sinned. For the future of Hastina, I have sacrificed a girl’s happiness. I did not even ask Gandhari if she was alright with a blind husband or not.” “Did she fight it?” “Not with words, but…” he brings up her oath. “Did you take your own oath out of rebellion?” “Such a question after so many years, mata?” “Search your heart, son. Sometimes we have to re-evaluate our previous actions.” “No, mother, I can say with utter honesty that I had thought only of my father’s happiness and Hastina’s future.” “If Gandhari had refused, would you attacked Gandhar?” “No, mata, how can your son ever disrespect a woman’s wishes like that?” Really, Bhishm? Then why the hell did you go with a bloody army to Gandhar? Ganga pronounces her son innocent. He asks God to keep Dhritrashtra and Gandhari happy. Scene changes. Camera focuses on Ambalika. “Such a sacrifice on Gandhari’s part definitely elevates patnidharm to a new level.” Okay, new pet hate, freaking patnidharm. “Kripacharya was absolutely right.” Ambika points out that they too had sacrificed a lot for their patnidharm. “The question is whether Gandhari is doing sacrifice or rebellion.” “No, as I see it…” “It doesn’t matter how you or I see it. What Dhritrashtra sees it as, that’s important.” Camera focuses on angry young man striding into his nuptial chambers. “Gandhari?” “I am here.” “I know you are here. I can find out by the sound of breaths how many people are here. Come near me, Gandhari.” Uh-oh. Why do I have the uncomfortable feeling that he is being sadistic and/or sarcastic? “Okay…” Every single one of Gandhari sentences here is accompanied by the salutation ‘arya’ for husband, but I am already irritated enough, so I am omitting further irritation. She stumbles on her way to him., knocks something over. Dhritrashtra closes his eyes. “If you walk that way, you won’t be able to come to me. You’ll collide into the arch.” “But, where are you?” “Look at your foolishness. You don’t know where I am, but you closed your eyes.” Sadistic as he is, jerkass still does have a point. Wow, that’s quoted almost directly out of TV Tropes! Go, Nila! “What were you trying to do? Insult me, or your own self?” Then comes that old argument of disrespecting disability. I am not repeating that hoary old chestnut here. He commands her to remove the cloth from her eyes, saying that he will not accept her, continuing that it is the duty of every citizen to listen to their King, He asks her if he commands her to remove the cloth from her eyes after he is King, would she not oblige? She says that she would, if she has such an order, but she would do it just before agnipariksha. What is the deal between this lady and agnipariksha? Dhritrashtra looks even more pissed. “You mean, you will not obey me under any circumstances,” he hisses, shaking her. His hands feel the flowers that adorn her. “What is all this? Where are your earrings? Your bangles? Why are you wearing a garland of flowers?” “I have adorned myself with flowers. I thought you…” “Enough! You have insulted me enough. Just to remind me of my blindness, you reach this limit? Do you think others won’t be able to see you? Do you want to remind everyone what happened to you?” “It’s not like that!” “It is like that! You are here to disrespect me! I came with a choodamani according to tradition for you, Gandhari, but you don’t deserve it! You are merely my bad luck! I, Dhritrashtra, son of Vichitraveerya, hereby foreswear you. Even if Hastinapur considers you its Queen, I will never consider you my wife! Never!” He pushes her to the floor. Ugh. I hate you, Dhritrashtra. Also, skip skip skip. This is Krishna Gyaan. This is about the pursuit of  happiness. (Isn’t that a movie?) “Samraat Dhritrashtra…even he is eager to hear these words.” “I am afraid of that eagerness. I fear he is too eager to cloak his disability with status.” You’re right, Bhishm. “Why wouldn’t anyone, Bhishm?” This is Satyavati. “I feel for Dhritrashtra. But a man overwhelmed by his own sadness cannot do anything for the people.” “We do not have a choice. Dhritrashtra is eldest of the Kuru Princes. If he doesn’t become King, what else can he do? He can’t be a Senapati or a Mahamantri. He will lose meaning in his life. Pandu will protect the country and his King as Senapati. Vidur knows Dharma. He’ll help the King.” I agree. In this whole sorry story, Vidur is the one person who has any idea of dharma. “Will Dhritrashtra let Vidur be Mahamantri? After becoming King, if he doesn’t name anyone to the post, neither I nor you can disobey him in that matter.” “Then, before the Rajabhishek, we will name Pandu the senapati and Vidur the Mahamantri. Even if you don’t agree with my decision of making Dhritrashtra the King, understand that it is the correct decision. Listen to me, Bhishm.” Satyavati leaves. Scene changes to Bhishm doing Surya Namaskar. As he finishes it, Vidur enters and does a pranipaat. “Come, Vidur. Here to ask for blessings before taking the post of Mahamantri?” “I am here to ask for permission.” “Permission? What for?” “Freedom. I ask for freedom from the duty of taking that oath. Hastina’s royal family has given a lot to me.” “Vidur, you are the son of the King, too.” “They are the sons of the Queens. If something dishonorable happens, I will be blamed for it.” “You are my student. Why would you do anything dishonorable?” “When I have to choose between Dharma and love after becoming the Mahamantri, what do I choose?” “Dharma is the Sun, and love the Moon. If you choose love, you will be at peace, but in darkness. If you choose Dharma, you will get light. You, the family, the people of this nation.” Vidur nods. “Go, Vidur. Take the oath and discharge your duties with Dharma.” “As you command.” “Live long.” The title track BGM plays a little. The scene changes to Pandu taking his mother’s blessings. “Son, may Hastina always be victorious by the strength of your sword. May your enemies tremble at the mere sound of your name. May you be immortal in history. May the throne of the senapati be as glorious as the King’s in Hastina.” Not much of the above actually occur in truth, but this guy is actually immortal in history, if only as the father of his sons, expressly the younger four, in my eyes. “No other throne has the right to be as glorious as the Kings.” “I know, and yet I pray for it, because for a mother, only the success of her children is happiness.” Scene changes again to Dhritrashtra. He starts intoning a very pompous oath. He is imagining the jayjaykars yet again. Also preening. He is disturbed by the sound of payals. He does his weird eye twitch (god, one thing this actor has is extreme control of his ocular muscles, apparently.) “Who dares?” It’s Gandhari, accompanied by Shakuni. Episode ends. Precap: Bhishm hands the sword to Dhritrashtra. “Stop, elder brother,” this is Vidur. “A man blind from birth is not eligible to become the King.” The camera pans on everyone’s faces.
At this point, it’s rather obvious that Dhritrashtra ain’t gonna become King.
And...we’ve officially crossed 15k words! Man, if only writing Antraatman were this easy...
Also: Official count of canon fails: 22 (1 for each canon fail episode also) plus 5 completely canon fail episodes.

Want to become a registered yoga teacher but don’t know how or where to start?
1. Do you practice yoga?
We highly recommend that students have a basic knowledge of yoga before taking any yoga teacher training courses. Once you have a foundation, you will pick up the more hard asanas (postures) of registered yoga teacher training programs and other requirements in the yoga teacher training schedule more comfortably. It does not really matter whether you practice yoga at home or in the presence of a yoga teacher. What matters is that your Yoga practice. If you do, then you have likely already experienced the benefits of yoga firsthand and are ready to dive deeper into your yoga journey. As long as you practice yoga at all, it makes no difference whether you’re a ‘beginner’ or ‘advanced’; each person has their own level of physicality, and not everyone is into fancy poses. What matters is your own unique personal experience with yoga.
Tumblr media
2. Do you want a rewarding yoga career?
Being a yoga teacher is a rewarding career in the field of yoga because you’re teaching and helping others. If you know someone who works in the medical field, you’ve probably heard them talk about how fulfilling it is to be a patient advocate and healing facilitator. Likewise, you can instruct your students on yoga’s mental and physical benefits to help them improve their health and change their lives.
4. Do you yearn to expand your yogic knowledge?
Do you always stay back after class with questions for your teacher? Or do you spend a lot of time contemplating and Google- in yoga-related stuff? Yoga poses are just one of the eight limbs of yoga, and if you have come to yoga through its physical practice, you will eventually feel compelled to explore its philosophical aspects. Yoga Teacher Training is an excellent opportunity for this.
5. Do you feel stuck in your yoga practice?
Sometimes yoga students feel like they should not take a yoga training program because their practice is in a “rut”. In fact, yoga teacher training is a great way to reinvigorate your yoga practice. Teacher training will introduce you to a deeper, more fulfilling practice and connect you with people who are passionate about embodying a yogic lifestyle.
6. Are you ready to eat, live, and breathe yoga?
We are not exaggerating. If you choose to join a traditional yoga school for your yoga teacher training, you will be in a yoga atmosphere 24/7, eating simple vegetarian food, talking about chakras, and learning cryptic Sanskrit phrases (as if the asanas weren’t enough). You will be dreaming about yoga postures. And for a 200-hour intensive course (a basic course for yoga teacher training), you are in this atmosphere for at least a month. Are you prepared?Consider whether you can dedicate a full-month of time to a yoga program without feeling like you need to return to your regular life. Also, remember that there will be homework outside course hours. Honestly evaluate whether you’re at a place in your life where you can reap the benefits of such an immersion. It may feel like a drag to have to do all this, but if you paid your hard-earned money to attend a course, it makes sense to get the most out of it!
Tumblr media
7. What style of yoga do you like?
Schools may specialize in very specific yoga routines. If you become certified in Hatha yoga. It is the most ancient and the most practiced yoga art of all time. It includes postures like asanas and many breathing techniques and exercises to bring peace to ourselves both internally and externally. This makes sure we could live more without any stress or mental burden. Nowadays its really impossible to find the correct Hatha class because none of us knew exactly what it looks like to be learned and taught well. Other yoga schools offer a more well-rounded approach, and they may help you develop your own program and yoga style. If you already love one lineage of yoga, it will likely be most fulfilling to pursue a yoga teacher training course in that school. Your enjoyment of yoga determines your commitment to and success in yoga teacher training. If you don’t know what style you like, we try several different ones before teacher training. Teaching is, after all, about sharing and passing along information that we ourselves find beneficial.
Vinyasa yoga:
Vinyasa yoga is also an old based similar to hatha yoga but this method involves breathing out regularly with some postures and some sun salutations. which results in keeping our mind calm and relaxed. It also keeps us away from negative thoughts and if you are suffering from postures problems then vinyasa yoga will be the perfect doctor for you because of its effectiveness. The vinyasa yoga is the most taught and learned yoga of all times because there are many mentors and comparing to all of them they are pretty easy to learn.
Ashtanga yoga:
Ashtanga yoga is a recent addition to the list of yoga asanas. It literally has some series of steps involved like breathing in and out sometimes slowly and sometimes vigorously in different postures changing as time pass by and there are totally six levels before giving us a break to take on and there are some mentors who allow people to run on their own terms and gradually increasing their pace and effectiveness.
Iyengar Yoga:
Iyengar Yoga has been developed by B.K.S Iyengar and he described it in his bestselling book “Light of Yoga”. It’s a type of yoga that gives more emphasis on precision and alignment During the performance of different yoga asanas. This style of yoga is performed by using props like blocks, belts, and blankets. The props help students to perform the asanas efficiently and minimizing the risk of any strain or injury.
Bikram Yoga:
Bikram Yoga was devised by Bikram Choudhary in 1970. It is a different type of yoga that is designed to keep the Indian climate in mind. It was practiced in a hot room heated to 41 °C with a humidity of 40 percent. The walls were covered with mirrors and the entire yoga room was fitted with carpets. The Bikram Yoga classes consist of a sequence of 26 different postures. It is a type of yoga that spread across the western world rapidly and there were around 1650 studios in around 40 countries in 2006. There is no music in the Bikram yoga classes.
Sivananda Yoga:
Sivananda Yoga is founded by Swami Swami Vishnudevananda and it’s a spiritual yoga system. Students practice various yoga postures in it but it is not limited to them. Sivananda yoga system is based on the following five Yogic sutras. Dite, exercise, relaxation, proper breathing, and positive thinking. All these principles work tighter to make a healthy lifestyle. There are usually 12 basic asanas or variations of postures with “Surya Namaskar” and Swasana. There is no music in the yoga classes of this type of yoga.
Jivamukti Yoga:
Jivamukti Yoga is created by David Life and Sharon Gannon in 1984. Jivamukti Yoga is a type of hatha yoga practice to show the real aim of yoga, which is freedom and self-actualization. There are 5 main tenets every Jeevmukti yoga class: Bhakti (Devotion), Ahimsa (Non-Violence) Dhyan ( Meditation) Nada (Music), and Shastra (Scripture).
Power Yoga:
Power Yoga It is a general term used to explain the Fitness based approach Vinyasa style of yoga. Many people consider power yoga to be “Gym yoga”. This yoga is similar to Ashtanga yoga. Power Yoga become famous during the 1990s and it was invented by Bryan Kest, based in Los Angeles, and Beryl Bender Birch, based on new York.

8. Do you want to teach yoga?
Yoga is a growing industry that will likely continue to evolve within our lifetimes. If you want to share the practice with others from the bottom of your heart, you will be paid back the investment in spades if the teacher’s path is the one you want to follow. That said, you don’t need to become a teacher to benefit from a yoga teacher training course. Many students attend teacher training programs to receive intensive asana training, deepen their spiritual practice, and connect with likeminded people. Here are five reasons you may benefit from a yoga teacher training program even if you don’t want to teach:
1. Alignment. In a yoga teacher training course, there’s much more time for you to learn about the alignment aspect of yoga. Alignment is critical to ensure that your yoga practice is safe and therefore sustainable. In yoga teacher training, there’s more emphasis on safe posture practices, and you’ll have plenty of time to ask questions.
2. To understand the anatomical and physiological aspects of yoga. Yoga differs from other physical exercises because each pose has a certain effect on the body, be it physical or energetic. In a teacher training course, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of the function of the poses; how to use them to help the body achieve optimal health and, most importantly, the contraindications towards each pose. This is important because, without proper knowledge of the poses, we can unknowingly do more harm than good to our bodies.
3. Understand the philosophical parts of yoga. Yoga poses are just one limb of yoga. The bigger part of yoga has to do with life and how we as individuals relate to it. You will come to learn about all this through the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.
4. Immerse yourself in the yoga experience. This is a very special time in your life. With the demands of modern life, one has at most one or two hours daily to commit to their yoga practice. During an intensive teacher training course, you will have the chance to embrace yoga all day, every day!
5. It’s an opportunity to dive deep into yourself. All the above combined will make you question your thoughts and belief systems. You will begin to wonder if you’ve been living to the fullest, and what changes would you like to see in your life. In this period of time, the healthy conflict will arise—things that have been long buried deep within you. This is the time to unveil these issues and deal with them, rather than just sweeping them under the rug again, leaving them unresolved.
9. Are you ready for a once-in-a-lifetime experience?
Most reputable yoga training is life-changing. They are retreats you will not forget nor regret when it comes to your life’s big picture. If it’s been a while since you took a break from the daily grind or treated yourself to any kind of vacation, the timing might be right. Spending money on transformative experiences is, after all, usually more worthwhile than spending on material goods. Frequent times to undergo yoga teacher training include when students are in transition, feel stuck, have recently started yoga, or have come to a point in their personal practice where they feel ready to teach. That said, there is no universal “right time”. Ask yourself what feels like perfect timing to you. The answer will come.
10. Do you want a spiritual school or a secular one?
Different yoga training programs have vastly different spiritual philosophies. Sometimes you wouldn’t know it in the West, but yoga’s roots are spiritual. Most of the techniques and poses taught in studios are offshoots of Hatha Yoga. According to the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, such techniques were designed to anchor the mind into a meditative state. Some schools will teach the spiritual side of yoga, and some will treat it as a mental and physical fitness practice. If it’s not readily apparent from their program offerings, ask the school where they are on this spectrum.
11. Do you want to focus more on your practice or on teaching?
There are some schools that mainly take you deeper into your personal practice. Other schools will focus less on this and more on teaching skills. You’ll want a substantial portion of the latter so you’re ready for surprises and can safely lead a class. Some students will have special needs or be prone to injury during some poses, for example.
Tumblr media
12. Do you want a short-term or long-term course?
There are two choices when it comes to Yoga Teacher Training Courses – either do a 3-month long course which runs only on weekends or a full-on one-month course. A short term, intensive course is the opportunity of a lifetime to fully immerse yourself into the yoga lifestyle, as you will have set aside all other obligations to fully commit to being present during the course. This allows you to be more focused on what is being taught and what is happening daily, with minimum distractions from the outside world. In intensive programs, the daily schedule, food, and environment are designed to encourage the best yogic experience. The downside to an intensive course is that not everyone is capable of taking that much time off from work or other obligations. Also, setting aside obligations is not something that everyone enjoys doing. A long-term course that runs over many weekends doesn’t require you to take time off work, and you can still maintain your social life outside of training hours (if you still have the energy to!). This option tends to be preferred by people who have familial obligations and cannot, for whatever circumstances, be away from home for long. Another good thing about weekend courses is that you will have more time in between classes to really absorb and process what’s being taught, so you have a longer timeframe to ask questions and clarify anything you’re unsure about. However, the con to a weekend course is that you won’t get the full experience of a yoga lifestyle, as five out of seven days you’re back to the hustle and bustle of your normal lifestyle.
13. What really happens during a yoga teacher training course?
During a teacher training course, you will fine-tune your asana practice. Even a well-seasoned yogi may find that they have been doing a certain pose the wrong way all this time! Learning how to execute the poses according to proper anatomical principles is definitely different from blindly mimicking movements. With this newfound knowledge, your asana practice will be taken to a whole different level, where much mental and bodily awareness is needed. You will start to notice things more, and maybe even come to realize that you were not as flexible or strong as you thought you were. The subject of Anatomy and Physiology not only enhances our personal practice; it also deepens our understanding of asanas, where we can more fully appreciate the asanas for their physical and energetic benefits. The fourth limb of yoga is Pranayama (breathing practices). Most of us take our breath for granted when it is, in fact, one of the most important things which keep us alive! Combining the breath with your newfound awareness on asanas takes your yoga practice to a whole other level! There will also be daily philosophy sessions where the Yoga Sutras are discussed. The Yoga Sutras are a guide to living a meaningful and purposeful life. As you are introduced to the concepts of the Yoga Sutras, you will start to question your life and everything that has led up to this point. Guilt, remorse, sadness, and many more emotions that have been unknowingly repressed may emerge. This is normal. In fact, this is a very good thing, because before any healing or positive transformation can happen, one must first identify the things that went wrong and what needs to be changed. Your teachers and course mates will be there to offer your guidance and support. Be present for them too when they need it. Most of your waking hours will be spent interacting with others. You will witness each other’s growth and transformation, as well as learn about yourselves through introspection. Lifelong friendships are often formed here. Meditation techniques will also be taught. Yoga is not always a serious practice; it is also a celebration of life. Meditation is a way to bring you back into the present, so you can be fully present at the moment and therefore enjoy your life. After immersing yourself in a teacher training course, you will emerge with a new perspective on life. After diving deep within yourself, you will have a newfound acceptance towards yourself and everyone else around you.

14. Does everything feel like it somehow just lined up?
If you have the resources, the support of the people around you and that gut feeling “Yes, this is it!”, then this is probably it! The universe is supporting you and showing you that you are ready for the next step: finding a registered yoga teacher training program.

15. Does the training cover everything?
You want a program with great staff that encompasses everything from Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras to meditation to anatomy and alignment to business skills. Ask for a syllabus or curriculum upfront. You should know exactly what you’re paying for. If the program doesn’t have anything to give or send you, that’s a bad sign. Once you find a program that covers it all, you can safely invest. Below are three necessary aspects of any great yoga teacher training program: Asana. The majority of people who attend a Teacher Training Course would have first known about yoga through asana and would have come to the course with the intention of deepening their knowledge on the asanas, regardless of whether they intend to teach or not. It is not very important to remember the Sanskrit names of the poses, but it is vital to have good knowledge of the safety alignments so that you can safely guide your students in and out of the poses. I believe that people should come to yoga to get healthy, not to create unnecessary injuries! A decent understanding of anatomy is good too so that you can better accommodate your students’ various and unique physicalities. This will prove important when you encounter students who have injuries, chronic pain, or other health conditions like thyroid disorders, high blood pressure, etc..
ABOUT THE SCHOOL
Sequencing is indeed an art. As you know, each asana is designed to affect the physical and energetic bodies in a unique way, for example, forward bending poses are calming, while backward bending poses are energizing. Bearing this in mind, A good yoga sequence will be able to give a very strong positive effect on your students. Knowing how to string the poses together to form a proper sequence is a very important weapon in your yoga teacher arsenal, regardless of what kind of yoga you teach.  Besides knowing how to connect the poses, equally important is knowing how and when to counter the poses. A counterpose involves moving the body in the opposite direction of the previous pose, therefore releasing the tissues that were held in the previous pose and creating balance in the body. Communication. Yoga is about the self, yet it is also about how you relate to others. Especially if you intend on pursuing a career as a yoga teacher, it is important to know how to communicate well with others.Communication is not only limited to your personal interactions with your students, but also your delivery methods in the class. Teaching is pretty much a form of public speaking, and you need to be able to present what you want to say in a way that is not only effective but also makes people want to listen to you. Perhaps you have noticed it: how do you feel when someone speaks in a monotonous voice? How does that compare to when you listen to a radio announcer’s voice? How do you feel when you participate in a class where the teacher has a too-serious mood all the time? What about in one where the atmosphere was friendly? You can ask your teachers and fellow course mates to observe you when you teach, then get feedback from them. It may be a bit difficult at first, but with practice, you will definitely improve!
Tumblr media
16. What is the meal situation?
If you’re partaking in an international or intensive teacher training program, you’ll need optimal health with maximum energy. What you eat is the first step. Any yoga teacher training program should have a holistic program, which includes regular yoga, meditation, and yogic meals. They should also be able to accommodate certain diets.
17. Is there an application?
If the school simply requires you to register, proceed cautiously. Schools should want to know more about their students than their credit card numbers.
18. Is the school Yoga Alliance Certified?
Yoga Alliance is a well-respected non-profit organization that vets yoga teachers and training schools. Yoga Alliance has more than 11000 registered schools and more than 15,000 registered teachers worldwide. As such, it’s become the standard certification for yoga training schools, and most studios and students have come to expect it from their teachers. In order to become an RYT (Registered Yoga Teacher) or registered yoga teacher training program, you must adhere to a very clear set of standards in terms of curriculum, planning, training, and qualification. Longstanding, reputable programs will always be Yoga Alliance certified. Unfortunately, some schools claim to be Yoga Alliance certified but aren’t. To check whether they’re legit, go to the Yoga Alliance website and search for a school name or website, and you should see the school listed along with ratings and reviews.
19. Are the teachers qualified and experienced?
Anyone can get a yogateacher training certification, but not anyone can teach. It’s important to find training with vetted teachers attached to it. Accomplished, well-respected teachers help students experience the multitude of benefits thataccompany a regular yoga practice. They also equip students with the necessary tools and strategies to establish their own teaching careers.
20. What’s the setting?
If the course will be held overseas, research the location as much as you can to avoid any culture shock or disappointment. Ask questions to the staff to clear any doubt or uncertainty. Also, check how the weather conditions will be at that time, and make sure to pack suitable clothing and any other items you’ll need for the duration of the course.
21. Are there testimonials or reviews?
Be wary of schools without testimonials. If students aren’t willing to leave testimonials about their program, they probably didn’t enjoy it. Also, don’t forget to check school reviews on Facebook, YouTube, Google+, etc. Check the past year’s activity on their Facebook page to see what they’ve been up to. You’ll be spending valuable time and money, so do your homework before putting your money on the table.
22. Do they cover anatomy?
Any yoga program should help you and your potential future students stay safe. Specifically, yoga teacher training programs should extensively cover proper teaching techniques, how to avoid injuries, and how to help students progress effectively from novice to professional level. 23. What’s the difference between 200/300/500 hour training? The most basic course is 200-hours training. It’s designed for beginners and intermediate-level students. 300 hours is mainly for advanced students, and in order to do 300 hours, you must have already completed 200 hours of training. Once you have completed both 200 and 300 hours, you are automatically eligible to register as RYT500. It’s always recommended to complete your 200 hours and assist a teacher (or teachers) before doing 300 hours. However, due to travel expenses, some want to do 200 and 300 hours of training together, so for them, there are 500 hours of training.Swamini Yog Peeth is a certified Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga School. Our registered yoga teacher training programs focus deeply on the union of mind, body, and spirit. They consist of dynamic meditation, asana workshops, advanced pranayama, and sessions of silence.

8 Yoga Experiences to Try This Year
The ideal thing concerning yoga exercise, besides that it seems to amazingly relax your nerves, is that you can do it anywhere. Here Are 9 Important Benefits Of Yoga For Kids
1.3KSHARES
Why is yoga for kids important? Kids these days are busy. They go to school all day, have extracurriculars and homework in the evenings, family time and more extracurriculars on the weekends . . . Practicing yoga is important for kids for many of the same reasons it is important for adults. Yoga helps kids to relax, relieve stress and anxiety, sleep better, improve emotional regulation, increase empathy, and improve mood and affect. Practicing yoga with kids also teaches them how to be more mindful, which happens to be just one of the many ways in which we can teach mindfulness to kids. As adults, stress is something that we have learned about and adapted to – from peer pressure to taking the SATs, sending out college applications to getting our first real jobs. Stress is simply a regular part of our lives. For kids, however, stress is something they are only just learning about, and they often don’t know what it is or how to handle it. It’s up to us to provide them with effective and appropriate tools to help them manage their emotions. Aren’t sure about yoga for kids? Check out these Common Myths About Kids Yoga to help you learn more about what kids yoga really is!
Yoga Improves Memory And Cognitive Functioning
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yoga helps to improve memory and cognitive function by creating focus within. Practicing yoga requires concentration of both the mind and the body. We have to pay attention to the movement of our bodies and how our breathing coordinates with those movements. Some yoga poses, particularly balancing poses, require that you concentrate more than other poses. When kids practice yoga, they are essentially practicing their ability to focus on the task at hand. In their day-to-day lives, this translates to better focus and cognitive functioning at school, leading to improved academic achievement.
Benefits Of Yoga For Toddlers And Preschoolers
Yoga is SO important for toddlers and preschoolers. Most people know yoga is great for relaxation and emotional regulation, but they might not know that it is also crucial for brain growth. That’s right: Yoga will help your child learn to speak, read and write.
Brain cells, neurons, do not form neural pathways until exposed to environmental stimuli that our senses transmit to our brains. Each experience – listening to a story, smelling a rose, eating a piece of candy – stimulates brain cells to send out dendrites to join up other with brain cells to create neural networks through which information can be exchanged.
I could talk about neuroscience for days, it’s one of my favorite things to study, but suffice it to say for now that the more your child experiences, the more neural pathways there will be in her brain, and they will be strengthened and reinforced through continual stimulation and the greater the capacity for knowledge acquisition and retention. For the rest of their lives.
It shouldn’t surprise anyone that children need more positive than negative experiences. Positive experiences grow neural bridges while negative ones can delete, shrink or warp them.
The last 10 years of neuroscience research has shown us that the brain is plastic, meaning anyone can change and grow their brain at anytime. But, oh, those early years. You will never see such growth and plasticity as you do in the first seven years of life, and particularly years 0-3.
Yoga Increases Determination And Perseverance
Yoga is a fun activity for kids, in a non-competitive environment, in which they can learn new yoga poses and breathing techniques. When something is fun for kids, they always want to know more. Kids also love the feeling they get when they master the thing they think they cannot do. For example, Crow Pose. While it’s so much fun for kids to practice, it can be difficult. But when they learn how to practice the pose and continue to practice it, they are very excited and want to show everyone the new thing they learned at yoga class! This determination and perseverance leads to the feeling of excitement. When this happens, kids will do anything to keep that feeling. In their day-to-day lives, kids will learn that sticking with something, even when it is difficult, pays off and they will want to bring that feeling of excitement to other areas of their lives.
Yoga Improves Independence And Coping Skills
As mentioned above, yoga is both a social and individual activity. One of the benefits of practicing an activity that is both individual and social is that it helps kids to recognize what “individual” and “social” mean. Kids rarely do things on their own. After all, they are kids! It’s up to us adults to make most of the decisions for them. However, it is still important that they learn how to do things on their own. Practicing yoga is a great way to introduce independence to your kids because their practice, and what they get out of their practice, is theirs and only theirs. By increasing independence in practice, we are also helping kids to develop their coping skills. As kids, they will have the support of their family and the comfort of familiarity. But this changes as they grow into adolescence and adulthood – peer pressure, graduating high school, going to college, and getting their first “real” job. It is important that kids learn how to be independent and cope on their own while they have the support and guidance from those around them. Otherwise, they will be left with no coping tools under their belt when the time comes for them to be on their own.

Boat Pose Boat Pose Marianne Ayala/insider
Have your child sit down with their knees bent and feet on the floor in front of them.
Invite them to extend their arms straight forward.
Have them lift their toes slightly off the ground, working to find their balance.
For an extra challenge, see if your child can straighten their legs until their body makes a V shape.
Step 3: Remember Kids Are Not Mini Adults
Their little bodies and expanding minds obviously differ from a grown adult. And whilst most adults to attend a yoga class, this may not always be the case with children.
Often it is the parent’s idea to send their child to attend a class, and some children may arrive tired, hungry or struggling with personal issues. And whereas adults repress their feelings, children do not.
This can make it tricky to hold a class together. Be patient, compassionate and find something positive to highlight about their practice.
It is also a good idea to have other activities available to fit each student’s need. Offer them the option to participate by observation or maybe color a mandala instead. Remember yoga can be more than physical asanas.

All of this newfound strength has much to do with the breath. When we breathe harshly or quickly, we increase muscle tension, reduce focus, and heighten our fight-or-flight response, all of which have detrimental effects on our minds and bodies. Teaching proper breathing techniques, and building physical and mental strength from a young age, helps to reduce the chances of obesity, depression, and depressive symptoms, as well as increases self-esteem, self-confidence, and improves overall wellbeing.

Yoga is becoming increasingly popular among American children. A national survey found that 3% of U.S. children did yoga as of 2012 — that’s 400,000 more children than in 2007.
Yoga and mindfulness have been shown to improve both physical and mental health in school-age children . Yoga improves , strength, endurance, and aerobic capacity in children. Yoga and mindfulness offer psychological benefits for children as well. A growing body of research has already shown that yoga can improve focus, , self-esteem, academic performance, and classroom behavior and can even reduce anxiety and stress in children.
Jessica Mei Gershen, a certified yoga instructor who teaches yoga to children at Brooklyn Yoga Project and founder of Yoga For All Needs, recommends making yoga playful and fun for kids, whether in the classroom or at home. In her yoga classes, Gershen weaves in fun games and stories with positive themes like compassion, gratitude, and strength.
Simple And Fun Yoga Exercises For Kids
Here are some fun yoga exercises and games for kids. If you are a parent familiar with yoga, you can try these at home with your family.
More yoga for kids, as well as some other , can be found here.
Simple yoga breath exercise
Take a deep breath in and hold it for a count of three.
Breathe out forcefully, like you’re blowing out a candle.
Repeat this for five cycles of breath.
Flying bird breath
Stand tall, with arms at your sides and feet hip-width apart in standing Mountain Pose.
Imagine being a beautiful, strong bird.
Pretend to prepare to fly by inhaling and raising your arms until your palms touch overhead. Keep your arms straight.
Exhale slowly as you bring your arms back down to your sides, palms facing down.
Repeat in a steady motion with each breath: inhale as you raise your arms, and exhale as lower your arms.
Optional: Close your eyes as you repeat the movements with breath, and imagine yourself flying in the sky like a bird.
Safety Precautions For Getting Started
Before your child begins doing yoga, there are a few things you should be aware of. While yoga is a safe and beneficial exercise, there are some precautions you might want to follow.
Don’t expect too much: Expecting perfect breathing or for your child to hold long poses might be too much for them. Laying off any huge expectations will help them enjoy themselves more and won’t add stress to an exercise that’s supposed to be a stress buster.
Find an appropriate instructor: While your child’s form won’t be perfect, it should be decent enough to let them reap the benefits of yoga. If you aren’t a yoga buff, you might want to find someone who is to help your child master yoga.
Be careful that your child doesn’t overextend: Kids have a natural tendency to stretch as far as they can, even if they aren’t comfortable while doing so. You should let your child know to stop when they feel the pull or burn during stretching and poses.
Go with bare feet: Mats are a good idea when practicing yoga and you should always make sure your child has bare feet when practicing it. If they’re wearing socks, they can slide and potentially hurt themselves.
Watch out for underlying conditions: Children who suffer from migraines should watch out for poses that require a lot of various head positions. Children who have asthma should be carefully watched for any shortness of breath.

To keep little minds focused and quiet before class begins, I like to leave art materials by their mats in case kids arrive early. We start class with an introductory “focus activity” to bring everyone together, like a yoga song or name game to introduce new members.
Next, practice a nice warm-up like a Sun Salutation or a dancing game. Then, present the main part of the class such as an age appropriate yoga story, yoga dance or AcroYoga.
End the session with a short breathing exercise or mindful meditation. The is also a huge hit with the kids.
Teaching Yoga To Kids: The Takeaway
Sharing yoga with children is a gift. If teaching yoga to kids is something that you have felt drawn to doing, I highly recommend you take it into consideration.
It can be a little intimidating to some, but adding these tips to your toolbox will build your confidence. Do not be afraid to learn a little along the way.
Have you been thinking of becoming a kids yoga teacher? Do you feel a little intimidated or overwhelmed at the idea? Are these tips helpful? If you are a current kid’s yoga teacher, please add some advice or tips in the comments below!
Set Up Your Space And Find Your Chi
If you’ve ever taken a yoga class before, you’ve probably been introduced to the concept of “Chi.” While it might sound a little “woo-woo”, it never hurts to create a good ambiance before you get started.  Here are a few different ways you and the kids can make that happen:
a)  Find a comfortable place to be seated or to lie down– This will help you maintain your focus and concentrate on your breathing. Finding the right space will also come in handy when entertaining positions that require a good amount of movement.
b)  Arrange mats near your laptop, tablet or TV– We’ll be guiding you through each and every yoga pose your kids will be doing, so make sure the sound is up, and you have a great view of Wiley and his friends!
c)  Set the mood: Dim the lights, light candles, prepare a cold scented towel for when you are done– We like to do this to help your children focus. A lot of yoga revolves around meditation, and it’s hard to meditate when you let your mind wander. It’s important to create an environment to help keep your children focused and relaxed, even after the exercise is complete.

Baddha Konasana The Butterfly Pose
The name of this asana can be very exciting for kids as it mimics the action of a butterfly. To practice this asana, the child is made to sit on a flat surface with legs stretched in front. Then the knees are bent inward, parallel to the floor to make the soles of the feet touch each other. The soles are then held tightly with the hands and the knees are flapped up and down like the wings of a butterfly.
This asana is very helpful in strengthening and flexing the inner thigh muscles. It shapes the thigh muscles in the long run and ensures a very erect posture.

What Is Yoga & Why Is It Important
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yoga is the ancient science of combining and harnessing the physical, mental and spiritual energies of the body to unfold its full potential. It has gained significant popularity in the recent times as an effective means of combating the pressures of today’s world. Many adults have integrated the practice of yoga asana in their regular schedule and have greatly benefited from it.
It is a very economical tool to stay fit and focused in life. A few hours of daily practice ensures great improvement in the activeness, immunity and the general wellness of a person. With many new forms of exercise mushrooming every single day, this ancient practice of yoga is slowly and steadily growing due to its holistic healing nature.
Kids in today’s day and age are over stimulated with the availability of so many distractions in the form of gadgets and toys. This has a profound effect on their attention span and their concentration level. Low immunity due to unhealthy eating habits and pollution is another major cause of concern for parents today. Halting the rapidly changing world is impossible. The only solution to this problem lies in dealing with it by empowering the kids.
Yoga is a blessing to mankind and the importance of yoga for kids in solving these problems cannot be reiterated more. Kids are generally very quick at learning and therefore, incorporating yogic practices in their routine early on in life can be a great way to ensure a healthy lifestyle for them.
Yoga Improves Social Relationships
Yoga is typically regarded as an individual activity. While that is partially true, there is a social component to yoga. We go to yoga classes with other people and take part in the yoga community where we can share our experiences with others. For kids, the entire yoga practice is a social one. Yoga for kids typically includes songs, games, and other fun activities that get kids moving together and learning from one another, particularly with partner yoga poses. This creates a positive, engaging environment in which kids can have fun, talk to one another, and learn to trust one another. Yoga also helps to cultivate increased self-esteem, self-confidence, and empathy within kids, which translates to more positive relationships with others by reflecting their positive attitude toward themselves onto others.
Social Emotional Health Highlights
Activities such as these help children explore…
Self-Management and Self-Awareness: Practicing yoga and mindfulness with children supports them in identifying feelings and emotions while learning to manage their reactions and behaviors in healthy ways that work best for them. Stretching or practicing yoga, helps children to rec-center attention on the present moment and begin to build capacity and self-regulation within themselves.
Fostering The Mind/body Connection
Second, yoga is at its simplest, is movement linked to breath. Movement taps into the sensory-motor system and the brain makes connections. If there is one thing I have learned from my daughter’s Sensory Processing Disorder, it’s that the mind-body connection is real. If you are talking to a child, trying to teach them manners or their ABCs and there is no movement going along with the learning or very soon after, there is a good chance nothing will be retained. You can yap yap yap all day long and it’s like Charlie Brown’s teacher, the wha wha wha wha trombone sound will be all the kid hears. Children’s brains are not going to make connections that allow them to remember what they’ve learned unless there is movement happening as well. That’s why playground time is SO important.
In a perfect world, we would teach then move, teach then move, teach then move. Teach them math then it’s time for PE. Language Arts then playground. Science lecture then….yoga! In a perfect world, right?
Mind then body. Mind then body. Mind then body.
All day long.
Adho Mukhasvanasana The Dog Pose
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This pose mimics the posture of a dog stretching itself. It involves balancing the weight on the legs and the hand in an inverted ‘U’ position. In this posture, the kid is encouraged to tuck in the toes facing inwards, raise the hips as much as possible and push the chest well inside. The head that is hanging down is stretched inwards.
This asana is particularly helpful to children in improving blood circulation to the extremities of the body. It also serves as a good stretching exercise for improving flexibility to do other complicated yogic poses. The ability to balance the core of the body is also improved by regular practice.
Best Yoga Books And Dvds For Kids
I am a Certified Yoga Instructor and a Certified Itsy Bitsy Yoga Facilitator and I have been teaching yoga on and off since I was 18 years old. Currently I teach 30 plus, 3 year olds yoga at the private school I work at in the mornings.
I have read tons of yoga books and watched even more yoga DVDs. I love trying them out, learning new poses, or picking up on phrases that teachers use to describe the poses.
I often get asked what books and DVDs I recommend, so I thought I would give a run down of my favorite books and DVDs for kids.
Tips To Help Teach Children Yoga:
The most important things to remember with kids yoga is to keep it fun, keep it open and keep it simple.  Below you will find a collection of kids yoga poses, demonstrated by my son Shivum when he was about four and a half.  The poses are for you to use in designing your yoga sets for the children.
There are many fun ways to encourage the children to learn and do yoga and here a few ideas for doing this.  Let your creative juices flow, I am certain many more good ideas will come to you as well.
Imaginative stories are some of the best ways to teach yoga to kids.  A trip through the jungle, etc, are a perfect way to incorporate doing the poses as you journey onwards.  Do cobra, bear, tree mountain, etc, as you come across these in your story.
Follow the leader is another great way to get kids to be creative and do the yoga poses.  You can lead and do your favorite poses, and then the kids can lead turn by turn doing theirs.
Yoga shows are great too and kids love nothing more than having your attention as they can put on a show of all the yoga they have learned.
Why Kids Should Start Yoga Early
According to a 2012 survey, 3 percent of U.S. children were doing yoga. And with more and more schools adding it into their phys ed programs, yoga’s popularity among kids will continue to rise. That’s because studies have shown that it can improve , strength, endurance and aerobic capacity in school-age kids. There are psychological benefits as well. Yoga can improve focus, , self-esteem, academic performance and classroom behavior, along with reducing anxiety and stress. Plus, researchers have found that it helps lessen symptoms such as hyperactivity and impulsivity in kids with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
Yoga poses for kids are a lot like yoga for adults, but basically…more fun. When starting out, the goal is to introduce them to movement and focus on creativity rather than mastering perfectly aligned positions. Once you’ve got them hooked on some poses, you can then begin to add in breathing and meditation exercises along the way. To get started, here are some simple, kid-friendly yoga poses to try with your little one.

How Yoga Helps You And Your Kids
Yoga has been popular in our culture for decades now.
It can be done at home on your own or in a yoga studio. You can even pull up your favorite style of yoga on YouTube and follow along. Aside from maybe a yoga mat, no special equipment is needed.
Yoga is a great exercise for both reducing stress and centering and calming the mind. But it also builds core strength and balance.
Yoga comes from India and was created thousands of years ago.
In Sanskrit, yoga means “to unite”. In this case, the union is between the mind and the body or even the spirit and body.
While yoga is part of the Hindu religion it has been embraced by all cultures and religions across the world.
With its heavy focus on the breath, yoga is a great way to build coordination and flexibility while naturally helping with stress management.
Learn more about why you should do yoga here:
Thus, finding ways to incorporate kids yoga into your child’s activity schedule is a great way to help them navigate the sometimes troubled waters of adolescence.
The Proven Benefits Of Kids Yoga
The benefits of kids yoga are many, but a few of the top ones are:
Improve their body awareness
Increased confidence and self-esteem
Improved coordination and flexibility
In short, kids yoga is an easy way to get them moving and off electronic devices. It’s also a healthy weight management practice too. Of course there are other healthy exercises for kids too, so check them all out:
Virabhadrasana I Warrior Pose I
The warrior pose of yogasana increases body balance and core strength for the kids. It is particularly useful to kids in creating a positive image about their own body, thereby increasing their self-confidence. It is helpful in alleviating any pain in the chest, ankle, knee and arms.
In this posture, the child is first made to stand with the legs wide apart and arms spread out at shoulder length. Then, by twisting the right foot to face outwards, the right knee is gently bent in the forward direction. It is ensured that the left knee is straight and the position is sustained for about a minute with normal breathing.
Setu Bandhasana The Bridge Pose
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The pose resembles an inverted U, where the upper body is bent like a bridge. To do this asana, the child is first made to lie on their back on a flat surface. Then, the knees are folded in an inverted V shape and the hands are folded in the reverse direction and placed near the head. Then the hips are gently lifted above the ground as high as possible.
This asana is quite challenging and can be perfected with practice. With every try, the flexibility is improved significantly. This asana causes the reverse flow of blood to the torso and the head and re-oxygenates these regions. It is very helpful for kids to improve their stamina, immunity and streamline their blood flow.
How To Teach Your Baby To Say Om
To do this with your child, simply take a deep breath. I exaggerate the breath for her now, but when she is older, I will be less dramatic and more “yoga like.”   And you say something like, “Mama is taking a Deeeep Breath! It makes me feel calm and happy. Can you take a deep breath?!”  For an older toddler, you can add, “Put your hand on your belly and feel it move up and down when you take a deep breath.”
Top Online Yoga Classes For Kids
If ever there was a time to get your kids into yoga, this is it! As well as the physical benefits of a good stretch, connection to their breath and increased coordination that it develops, the sense of calm and relaxation that comes from a mindfulness practice works wonders for their wellbeing.
Here are our top picks for yoga classes your kids can do at home. Namaste.
Benefits Of Yoga For Young Kids
October 13, 2017
Yoga is not just for adults! In fact, it can give children very important life skills that can help them succeed in the world.
Here is a more detailed explanation of how teaching yoga to kids and using yoga in the classroom can have a positive impact on children’s well-being:
Yoga helps children manage their anxiety. The breathing exercises and relaxation techniques learned from practicing yoga can help children with stress management. Teaching children how to reduce stress in a healthy way is an important life skill that will help them as children and as adults.
Yoga improves children’s emotional regulation. Another benefit of yoga for children is that it helps children learn to be in the present moment while relaxing and gaining a peaceful state of mind, which ultimately improves their emotional regulation.
Yoga boosts children’s self-esteem. Yoga for kids can do wonders for their self-esteem. Perfecting a pose or improving their balance and flexibility can give young children a sense of personal empowerment.
Yoga increases children’s body awareness and mindfulness. Going through a variety of yoga poses helps children learn about their bodies and the movements they’re capable of doing.
Yoga enhances children’s concentration and memory. One of the top benefits of kids’ yoga is that the different types of moves requires children to focus and work on their memorization skills—both of which can translate over into their academic performance.
Yoga Reduces Stress And Anxiety
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Improving mood also means reducing stress and anxiety. Those same endorphins that increase mood and affect also reduce stress and anxiety. Did you know that we physically hold negative emotions in our bodies, usually in our necks and lower backs? Sometimes experiencing negative emotions is a good thing, but only in small doses. For kids, it is important that we teach them the balance between negative and positive emotions. When we are ready to let go of all of that negativity, practicing yoga helps to reduce stress and anxiety by relieving tension throughout the body, literally releasing the built-up negativity kids have stored within their bodies.
Jumpstarting The Nervous System
The first is the traditional way in which most people understand about yoga. Yoga turns on the parasympathetic nervous system. A quick way to remember what the parasympathetic system does is to remember two words: rest and digest. It’s what helps you digest your food, go to sleep, helps make you calm, rational choices and actions, and allows your pre-frontal cortex to be in charge. Little kids act like caveman maniacs and teenagers make such poor rational choices because their prefrontal cortex is still forming until age 25! Add stress into the mix, and boom! All calm, rational thought goes right out the window.
The sympathetic nervous system is your old brain – fight, flight or freeze. This is the part of your brain that is concerned with survival: Eat, mate, survive and repeat. That’s all it cares about. Any time you are stressed, your body is operating from that caveman brain and your whole body system is only concerned with the thought, Who or what is trying to kill me and should I fight it, run from it or play dead to hope for the best? When you operate in survival mode, your neurons are not making connections and neural pathways because your brain is too busy trying to keep you alive.
How To Choose The Best Yoga Mat
It is the dream of every Yoga mum to introduce this amazing healing therapy to our little ones and even a bigger dream is for them to follow up with this practice as adults.
Like everything else, we dream someone would have told us before how good it feels and how good it is for your body, mind and soul to spend this time with yourself in fully awareness; to make the simple given action of breathing a sacred moment of gratitude.
Now when it comes to Yoga for kids, we are talking about an introduction of what it looks to practice yoga, an introduction of spending time in your “magic carpet” and have fun moving your body.
To make this time even more special there is always the possibility of purchasing a kids yoga mat specially design for them, understanding this is a luxury; there are still few devoted mums who will be happy to invest on this sacred magic carpet for their kids to practice.
What we recommend for you to look at the time of purchase.
We hope that this sharing helps you to  pick the most suitable and perfect eco yoga mat for your precious little one and can help you in your search of the best mat for your needs.
Educational And School Benefits
Yoga may even improve your child’s performance in school and help them thrive there as well. With dedicated practice, their grades might improve and that might encourage them to like school more than they did before.
Helps Hone Focus and Concentration
Yoga requires concentration and the ability to tune out distractions to accomplish the task at hand. That kind of attitude can spill over into your child’s school experience too.
When they are able to tune out the distractions of other children at school and concentrate on their lessons, their school performance will improve.
Shows Them That Discipline Pays Off
Some kids want instant gratification. Yoga shows them that if you really want to master something, you have to keep working at it.
That lesson of discipline will greatly benefit them in school. But it’s also a great lesson they can carry with them throughout their life, whether it’s in the workforce or even when managing their finances.
Helps Kinesthetic Learners
Some students don’t learn by hearing or watching, they learn by doing things physically. Those students are called kinesthetic learners.
That’s why yoga is good for kinesthetic learners — you can help them study while they are doing yoga. Or they can take short yoga breaks during a study session to help them focus better.

How To Control Weight After Marriage
How To Control Weight After Marriage
HI,
Despite Covid-19 , second wave going on, the wedding season is on. It is a well-known fact that people gain weight very quickly after getting married. Reasons are many but without getting into those details let’s know How To Control Weight After Marriage.
Let us know first how to manage fitness levels during and post marriage!
You don’t have to bother your new family with stocking up diet food, but just incorporate few things to keep fit and going.
How To Control Weight After Marriage
So here are few tips I have been following and even during my honeymoon, I did not budge
Tumblr media
The one with Surya Namaskars
Surya namaskars are 12 salutation rounds you can easily pick them up from any yoga videos available online. I am an ardent yoga fan, thus, surya namaskars requires only a yoga mat, some space and lots of motivation. I took up yoga classes even few days before my marriage, but post marriage we left for our vacation to Maldives. We stayed at a wonderful resort, there was an amazing gym there. I started with few rounds of surya namaskars followed with treadmill and used the skipping rope to get some heart pumping. My husband used the treadmill and weights section.
At a place like Maldives, you have lot of spare time. Thus eating good meals does not hurt
Tumblr media
The one with kickstarting your day with good breakfast
Yes, follow this one to remain active through out the day. Every hotel offers buffet breakfast, since I am a vegetarian I was lucky not to opt for the sodium laden salamis and sausages. I started my meal with milk/yoghurt and muesli along with some prunes and dates. I tried some of the exotic fresh home made fruit yoghurts packed with lots of calcium and vitamins.
For the next round, I ate a vegetable omelet without cheese along with toasted multigrain bread. I followed with some seasonal fruits and even carried some bananas back to my room for mid morning snacky
Tumblr media
Once in a while I had freshly made sugar free juices, like orange, pineapple.
The one with ignoring buffet meals at hotels
Husband and I were always tempted to try the buffet meals offered at the resorts, the spreads were so tempting. The number of desserts offered were always calling us.  We always ordered from the ala carte menu. It was always better. We ate only what we ordered. Shared one dessert only on days we thought it was really needed
Tumblr media
We enjoyed our vacation, tried different cuisines and stayed fit.
The one with moving all day
The tip is to keep moving all day, never to sit or lie down always, after marriage I shifted to two places, once in Delhi at my in laws place and second in Pune where my husband works. I did lot of running around, packing, unpacking, settling cupboards, meeting guest popping over at our new place. We cousins took out time to run at a nearby club. The idea was to keep yourself active..
The one with eating small meals
This one always comes handy. Since everyone is feeding you with food, remember to take small meals to keep yourself full. I eat nuts, yoghurts, poha with green chillies for evening snacks . I simply keep myself full. I don’t eat wrong at dinners, I choose what I eat. People often tell me I eat less, but that’s because I eat all the time
Tumblr media
with caution.
The one with taking your vitamin supplements
After marriage, you need a lot of energy, for surviving the changes. I recall not taking my multi vitamins for 2 weeks after which I was really low on energy. I cried a lot. I decided to get back to my schedule and take my vitamin e and vitamin c supplement. It is best not to bother people around you and just simply take care of yourself, because your own health is very important in order to take care of others around you. Of course, it goes without saying that you need to check with your doctor whether you need supplements or not.
The one with avoid eating whatever comes your way
Ours was one shaadi ka ghar, we had mithais, fried snacks all over the place. One day, it was bhatura chanas and to top that there was moong daal halwa. I was in a fix. None the less, since I was the queen, my wishes were everyone’s command
Tumblr media
I would have my simple ghee roti with the sabjis, avoid eating a lot of sweets at the night. Since I always ate small meals, I did not feel hungry at all. I remember taking a tiffin to the beauty parlour where I was getting ready, and eating my grub when I got a much needed break. I sipped on nariyal pani before entering the venue. I was cheerful all the time, I enjoyed my wedding functions as much as everyone else did.
The one with having home cooked meals
Ok, forget honeymoon, where you don’t have the luxury of having home cooked meals, but as soon as I got back, I told my mother in law, that we will have ghar ka khana, I have been longing home cooked meals are cooked with love, with clean and hygienic conditions, you know that the right thing is going inside your body.
I have shifted to Pune, from day one I packed lunch for Mr. Husband. I believe that all of us should know how to cook. I cook simple things, I stocked my home with brown rice, multi grain atta (made myself), fruits, nuts, curd, milk and eggs. I can easily whip up some quick stuff. I have help with me for cooking, but I can always manage even if they are not there. Thus be proud of the fact that you can cook. After all way to a man’s heart is through his stomach

Last but not the least, get back to your routine, join a gym, health club, yoga center near your house. Trust me you will love it :). You will fit into all your wedding clothes, trousseau would not get wasted and you will always glow.. well a little hard work does not hurt

Anjum Khanna - Ayurveda and COVID-19
Tumblr media
So everyone knows the times we are going through because everyone is suffering because of it. Whether it be the rich or the poor, the strong or weak, and even the people from different countries belonging to different races all of them are in unrest. The COVID pandemic has created worldwide panic and has caused so many deaths all over the world. This global threat to humanity has many people questioning many things not to mention the number of rumours spreading around like wildfire. This panic has people questioning many things which include all the existing medicines and therapies. People are trying to figure out what can help beat or at least try to minimize the effects of the Coronavirus. But people in this country are forgetting the very root of medics which has led to the inventions of many more medicines henceforth.
Ayurveda has always been something that has nurtured the people of this country ever since its inception. Ayurveda is treating various ailments only through natural means. It ensures that the treatment remains as organic as possible. Even though the artificially made medicines do work but these can cause many side effects due to the presence of chemicals. But the Ayurveda remedies are only made with plants, something that is the creation of the earth itself hence it has little to no side effects.
People who truly believe in the effectiveness of Ayurveda to fight corona are the staff at the Anjum Khanna clinic. The Anjum Khanna Healthy Ayurveda Clinic, Panchkarma Centre, Ayurveda Pharmacy came into existence in the year 1998, by committed, dedicated, and experienced professionals in the field of Ayurveda. This clinic is situated in Srinagar (Main Market) Khayam Chawk, Munawarabad. The reason why this clinic is situated in Srinagar is nature’s beauty and abundance of plants and herbs. This makes it a perfect place for Ayurvedic treatment. Many patients from all across the world come to visit our clinic. Our Ayurvedic clinic faces a rigorous fifty-point inspection which includes customer reviews, history, ratings, satisfaction, trust, cost, and general excellence.
Question - How can something as old of a process as Ayurveda can heal or help fight against something like COVID-19?
Answer - Some of you may have heard that this virus is very different from the other viruses that have created a pandemic before. It’s different in the way it spreads, it’s different in strength, and it’s different in its persistency and after-effects. This was something that confused a lot of modern-day scientists and doctors all over the world. It took them so long to figure out how does the virus even spread. Although Ayurveda is not an antidote to the virus it can help fight off the germs and increase metabolism naturally.
Question - What remedies can be adopted to fight off or minimize the impact of the Coronavirus?
Answer - Many Ayurvedic tricks out there will help increase the strength of your immune system which can help repel the virus even if it enters your body somehow. Some simple herbal remedies can clear our throat and respiratory system. Since one of the main symptoms of this virus is cough and cold added with a difficulty in breathing. If we can keep our wind passage clear by having some natural medics then we can prevent our body from growing weak.
Question- What are the ingredients that can be used for this remedy and are they easily available?
Answer - The ingredients which can be used to cure or defend common-cold are- talisadi, abhrakbhasma, and mahasudarshanchurna. These herbs not only prevent common-cold and clear the respiratory system but also strengthen the body as well. You can add these ingredients to the tea that you drink every morning. This will add a really rich flavour to the tea. Hence you can maintain good health in a tasty way! Some of these ingredients can be found at home or can be found in any Ayurvedic shop. We have an abundance of all different kinds of herbs that are used to treat the visitors.
Question- What if people are unable to find these herbs in their locality? Are these homemade remedies the only way?
Answer- There are off course more Ayurvedic treatments than just these remedies which can help fight off the virus. These herbal home remedies are only suggested since during this pandemic everyone is instructed to stay at home and come out only when necessary. However, if you can come to Anjum Khanna clinic while maintaining all the safety measures and protocols then you will be treated with the most well-known detoxification cycle of Ayurved called Panchkarma. This treatment usually incorporates five common strategies (that’s why its name has the word “Panch” which is five in Sanskrit) for purgation or disposal, seriously detoxifying the body while adjusting the three “Doshas” – Vatta, Pitta, and Kapha. It’s done with the assistance of cured oils.
Question- What are the benefits of Panchkarma?
Answer- The benefits of Panchkarma are:
Increase in     digestive fire
Disease is     alleviated
Health is     restored and maintained
All sense organs     work properly
Increases     strength
Not only healthy     but also relaxing
Question- What if we can’t avail of the services by the clinic or even make the home-made recipes?
Answer- If you are unable to do any of the above-mentioned processes then you should stay at your home and eat only home-made food. Don’t eat food from restaurants or any fast food café. Don’t drink iced beverages or eat yogurt, cheese, and ice-cream. Make sure to do yoga (especially Surya Namaskar) daily to maintain health and metabolism.
All though the world is in shambles we should keep our calm and indulge in Ayurveda as much as we can to keep ourselves from getting infected. Stay safe and healthy.

Adapting Your Yoga Practice to Suit You Perfectly | Mark Whitwell
Mark Whitwell | Heart of Yoga
A central principle of the Yoga I received from my teachers is that there is a right Yoga for every person, no matter who that person is. Adapted to age, health, body type, culture, religion, and stage of life. This immediately stood out in contrast to the physical systems I had been experimenting with up until that point.
Prior to meeting Desikachar and his father, Krishnamacharya, I had perceived Yoga as a fixed thing that practitioners strive to move towards, rather than the other way around — adapting the Yoga to suit the person. After the first lesson, where Desikachar watched unimpressed while I demonstrated the asana I was so proud of, and taught me how to breathe correctly, it became obvious. Standing in the moonlight on a rooftop in Madras (now Chennai), I could feel that the body loved its breath. And that Yoga was simply our participation in the life that we already are, the participation in the power of life that we are.
I saw all kinds of people come and go from the house, as well as from the Mandiram, which was built by that time. All sizes, ethnicities, ages, men and women, some very ill, some very religious, some with very specific issues. What I noticed is that although Krishnamacharya was a renowned healer and Ayurvedic practitioner, whose hands were revered as having healing powers, he did not dispense Yoga like a pharmaceutical product. The poses were not dispensed like different drugs for different problems. Instead what I saw was how he and his son helped each person find their breath in whatever way worked for them, so they could participate in what was whole and alive about them, identify with that, and participate in their own healing.
Looking around at the modern Yoga scene, I do not often see this nuance of adaption. I see a dominant paradigm that describes Yoga poses like individual pharmaceutical ingredients, good for the liver, good for the back, etc, divorced from their context of breath and vinyasa krama, and the placement of the mind in the aliveness of the body. I see people looking to Yoga teachers for healing the way they look to doctors, in a disempowered search for a parent to make everything ok. And I see yoga teachers absolutely burdened in their shared belief that they are supposed to heal or fix their students, rather than enable them to participate in their own health and healing.
It is a big step to leave the studio and the gymnastic routines and commit to our own personalized home practice. But it is an equally big and important step to really understand what this adaption is, and what the role of the teacher is in it. The teacher’s job is not to diagnose you and give you poses like medicines. No matter how good a teacher is, how educated in physio and anatomy and Ayurveda and all the other modalities of modern healing, and no matter how much information you share with them, the teacher is not there to replace your own body’s intelligence. Rather, their job is to help and empower you to participate in the body’s essential health and aliveness, even in the midst of perhaps injuries or a condition of illness. To participate in what is well. That participation spreads into all areas of one’s life as a shifting of focus. This is quite different from the standard modern approach to adaptation, which treats the individual like a collection of problems to be solved or treated.
The principle method by which your practice is your own is your breath. The length, depth, pace, ratio and retentions of YOUR breath. By making your breath the central feature and purpose of your asana, your practice gradually becomes utterly fitted to your unique embodiment. By making the breath start before the movement and finish after any movement, you safely hold your asana within the envelope of the breath. It is a revolutionary change, from imposing postures on the body, to allowing them to happen in their natural shape within the natural rhythm of your unique breath. If we are pushed beyond our physical capability, we will not be able to take a smooth and even ujjayi inhale. Therefore, the breath will keep you safe and be the guide and guru to help you modify your practice.
Adapting your practice to suit you perfectly does not necessarily mean it will look any different from a standard template or someone else’s practice. It is the principles of breath that ensure it is completely and subtly unique to you. Just as many people kiss in the same way, but no two real kisses are the same or boring, it is your intimacy with life that makes your practice utterly your own.
We also must break free of the constraints of ‘ideal form’ goals in terms of asana. There is no ideal shape. Krishnamacharya would say there are as many asanas as there are living beings. What did he mean? Just that every body is unique, and asana can and must be modified to suit us. They are not like yantra, needing to be done in an exact precise shape. We do not need to yank our bodies with ropes and straps and chairs into approximating the forms that were idealized by someone else’s body. If your knee is injured and kneeling asana hurt, simply do not do kneeling asana. Consider the movements of the breath and spine that such asana facilitate, and how else these can occur. There is nothing eternal and holy in any one asana. Take inversions, for example. A safe and accurate headstand is a very beneficial thing, but suitable for only a small percentage of the population. A shoulderstand gives many of the same benefits, but again will not suit everyone. To lie on the back with the legs up on a chair, however, and breathe with the arms, is something accessible to almost anyone, and gives great benefits of elevating the legs above the heart. We must not be put off from doing what we can do by what we cannot do.
Tumblr media
Yoga students and teachers alike should not be intimidated to modify asana to suit themselves. It is not an immutable gallery of precise forms. What do we think the purpose of asana is? To dance? To be elegant? To be photographed? To do a magic ritual that performed correctly will get a reward, sometime later? No, the entire function of asana is to facilitate the movement of the breath. It is moving pranayama, using the whole body to direct breath and prana in restorative and beneficial ways.
So do not wait for a teacher to come along and give you special poses “adapted to you”. In terms of asana, just do what you can do, within the logic of vinyasa krama (which you can recap within the online immersion we have made if you wish). The customization will come as you learn to remain within the tides of your inhale-exhale, based on the principles of practice.
Furthermore, we will each have our unique loves and reminders of life’s power. This may be religious or it may simply be flowers, poetry, a photo of a loved one or a view. We weave these devotions into our Yoga practice, making it truly our own. This is not separate from our asana and pranayama. For example, a Christian student of Yoga may begin with a short prayer, then do some sun salutations to God, some standing asana mirroring the yantra of the cross, some keeling prayer asana, some lying down asana and inversions, with a focus on the breath as the gift of God, some backbends on the abdominals with a mood of sacrifice or release, some seated twists and forward bends “giving oneself to the Lord,” savasana in a mood of “abiding in the holy spirit,” a simple pranayama, and then some prayer or song. Every different person will have something different.
Another example: an atheist who loves astronomy and the stars. They may have a beautiful framed picture of the galaxy in their practice space, or perhaps even practice under the night sky on occasion. They may begin with a quiet reflection on themselves as made from the same particles that have been around since the dawn of the universe. They may practice some surya namaskar, with a feeling of gratitude for the light and warmth of the sun, knowing that we would only be alive for eight minutes were it to go out. They may do a short practice of standing, kneeling, lying down, twists and forward bends, and finish with their legs up on a chair. During their practice, they might like to visualize the breath enlivening every cell of their body with oxygen, and then releasing toxins on every exhale. Lying down, they could let their mind roam into the utter stillness and silence of space, and feel themselves as part of that immense vastness. Their practice could then conclude with a podcast on new and amazing astrological research, as they move into their day.
Tumblr media
The point is that adapting our yoga practice will come naturally when we desanctify the precision of poses, and resanctify the uniqueness of our breath and our specific life interests and directions. You vinyasa krama encompasses all the aspects of your daily intimacy with life, through whatever the appropriate means are, including your asana and pranayama.
Many students wish for a completely customized and unique asana sequence, but this is not necessary for a completely personalized practice. In fact, it would be an imposition. Your adaptations must arise from your body, not from the mind’s learning. We must be more nuanced and precise. Instead of just getting a new wardrobe of clothes, we are tailoring all of the existing clothes to fit perfectly. Your breath is the key.
Finally, I am not advocating for spontaneous movement each day in order to be “free.” This is like trying to be with a different person every day and never getting a chance to relax into real intimacy and depth. Doing a different thing every day keeps the mind active and engaged, thinking of what to do next, and means we will avoid the discipline of breath in areas that might facilitate release, such as forward bends or pranayama. Avoidance of practice is very common and can hide beneath “my dancing is my yoga” or “spontaneous movement is my yoga” etc. It is true that you are already the power of the cosmos, and that whether or not you do a practice you are completely fine, but if we suffer from any restrictions at all in our flow of intimate connection, then we do need a little precise and uncompromising asana-pranayama-meditation, as a remedial practice. It is normal to feel some resistance and to need to cut through this. Not as an imposition but with love. It is completely fine to do basically the same sequence every day, perhaps altering a little with the moon. Your breath will naturally refine the practice into something completely fresh every day. Again, like a kiss.
Over time, your practice becomes like a favourite pair of jeans that you can just slip into without having to think about it. It is there to facilitate the movement of above and below, the beauty that is the breath, no more and no less. It is not a struggle to attain a future result, nor merely a therapeutic system for the physical body. Gently, over and over, take the mind out of worrying about the hamstrings or the face muscles; the elbow joints or the hip flexion. Reimmerse yourself over and over again in the breath. If you can breathe, you can do Yoga! Your breath is the key to your Yoga fitting you like a glove.
A class with a teacher is useful for learning basic principles, but as with a music lesson, they must be implemented in the privacy of our own home practice to be of any use.
If you are interested to look into these breath principles, we have made a self-paced online immersion sharing these in some detail, available by donation at www.heartofyoga.com/online-immersion.
