Thank you so much! I'm really glad you like my works!!! <3 As for advice... there's a lot that goes into a blog, so I think this will be a little long. (Please do not be discouraged, it's not as hard and complicated as the length of this guide. If you go with the flow of however it goes you'll be fine. I've been labeled as professional by many people. Please remember these are tips that I find helpful and useful in my blogs so feel free to take some and leave some.)

01. purpose of blog

While I know that you most likely have a reason for your blog, it's really helpful to think about exactly what kind of contents you want to bring to the hellfire of tumblr.

It can be whatever reason, to write fics of your fav, or to try out writing, or to just bring more stuff into the tags, maybe a mix, add in another reason or few.

But it's a guiding point as to where you wanna go with the blog. If you're gonna use it for whatever, that's fine too, whatever you want with the blog. But if you're making lots of goals to achieve a big goal, it's good to have a "vision statement".

If it helps, my vision statement is to write all the ideas in my drafts and to bring more nazuna content in this world. Ultimately, I just wanna have fun with it though.

02. blog setup

URLS: in terms of urls, short and catchy urls are most popular. something related to a character, in-game item, theme, song title, etc. my prev url was nazu-yume, which each part has 4 letters and is easily recognizable. nazukisser is somewhat messier but it describes what this blog is better. also if your url is longer it's best to put hyphens. easier to remember

Solo? Group?: Sometimes, depending on the blog, you might want to run the blog with someone else. it's fun :D but running a blog by yourself is really common. whatever floats your boat

General aesthetic: You can always change your aesthetic tbh, but having a general theme is great to decide on. often times it's a specific card. others its a theme like "angels" or a color like light blue or a song or a specific character, or a specific aesthetic like lovecore but whatever you find pretty

Headers: Usually, most people (me included) like to match headers and icons (see more about icons below). ive been making mine 1100 x 650 px if you decide to crop an image or edit your own. i tend to edit mine because that feels too lazy if i don't. but lots of people pick an image and place it as their header. there's always the option to reposition/zoom in or out/not stretch header !!!

Icons: Usually match the headers, being the same character or similar colors etc. crop into square or circle or have a transparent png with a unique shape (like a heart). this one has all sorts of funky shapes to play around with.

Blog colors: usually match header/icon + pinned (see below). feel free to pick a color from the images you used for the icon/header/elsewhere in the blog. I use this site to pick colors from images.

Blog title & description: these appear in search results for your blog. sometimes i put in "enstars x reader" so that my blog may search up in the search results by any chance. but you can leave either empty or put in your name or a song name or whatever, my main's title is literally "busy kissing nito nazuna" so do whatever. for the description i usually put my name, pronouns and whether requests are open or not. people are more likely to read this than what's on your pinned. reminder that there are many people who do not read the important stuff and just read whatever they want on your blog

Pinned post: Arguably the most important post on your entire blog. it's basically your navigation, home page, and face of your blog. in one. that sounds scary i promise its not. There are a lot of things I recommend having on or linked to on a pinned: - introduction: name, pronouns whatever else - dni/byf - request status (open, closed) - blog & request rules - masterlist - tags used - you can also have: latest/best/most popular fics, mutuals list, taglist information, other blogs, wheatever else you want on there tbh

tags: can be basic, mine are on this blog ("#qian talks" is as straightforward as can get) or they can be fancy ("ocean of orbis" is just fancy on my main), whatever floats your boat. i usually include tags for at least shitposting/talking and reblogs

desktop theme: you can find a lot on theme hunter or coding cabin (you actually can find me in coding cabin haha) you don't usually need to have any coding experience for customizing themes (tumblr has a neat customization thing) but for pages you will need to know how to edit it without breaking the code. (it's not hard, promise) [laptop only] edit appearance -> edit theme -> "edit HTML" -> delete all the code there -> paste in the code you have acquired

03. writing tips

writing is really a self-discovery experience. writing a lot helps you develop your own style and preferences for writing, and writing self-indulgent works is always the best experience imo!

take inspiration from anything. and i mean, anything. i take a look on my desk and i see an eraser. what can i do with an eraser. artist!au, perhaps? objects are difficult to take inspo from, so any media will do as well. lots and lots of my ideas are inspired by manhwa (for example, my kasa series "stamped with flowers" would fit in a very specific style of manhwa

write whenever you can! quite literally, whenever you have enough energy or time to sit down and write, or when you're inspired and need to write something in your notes. i promise you, it's very easy to forget ideas at times. getting in one word is already progress

if you decide to take requests please PLEASE remember that you don't have to do them. it's not as expected as you think. most likely the requester will forget that they sent the request soon and will be pleasantly surprised when they see it posted. if it is not posted, it is not a bother. also don't worry about taking a year to finish requests ive done it before and then sometimes i hold an event and never write any of the requests!! (looks at my 800 event on my main)

don't feel pressured to write consistently... i write a lot, but thats because i stress write a bunch... so please, write whenever you can/whenever you please. it's much better that way, i promise.

if you feel your work sucks i promise that you are the only one who thinks it sucks that much. because one is their own most harsh critic of their own works.

dont be afraid to take breaks too! they're so healthy for you fr

if you need help characterizing, all I can do is to say that you need to read more stories.

prompt lists are wonderful. reblog one and you may find some good requests in your inbox.

04. blogging experience

what do i do if i get hate? the best thing to do is to block the anon/user (yes you can block anons, the same way you can block a user straight from an ask) and delete the ask. they're attention seekers <3 don't give it to them and they'll give up fast. "i've seen you reply to hate asks-" "shh... i'm a bad example, i can't help but roast the anons. not recommended if you are bothered by hate anons

what if i take too long to answer asks? there is never too long.

what if i get an ask that makes me uncomfortable? delete it. (and block)

what if someone makes a comment that makes me uncomfortable? block and delete it.

what if someone who applies to my dni/byf follows me/interacts with me? block. not worth any of your time.

what if i don't like my theme but i'm too lazy to redo it? good luck comrade. i hope you can get yourself to redo it someday.

what is "successful"? A "flop"? whatever you feel is successful and whatever you feel is a flop.

-I don't know what I expected s2 to open with. but danny portal incident in more detail was not it. (also, I hate to break it to you, sam, but danny's parent's bigass ghost hunting rv def chugs more gas than those vehicles, lmao. unless it runs on ectoplasm or something...)

-WHY WAS DESIREE IN THE SEWER? HAVING TEA WITH IT DOWN THERE?? Her making the giant cow come alive is a boss move, we've almost had all of my fav animals as ghosts now <3 I also don't like how sam was expecting danny to just, haunt the place so the cars wouldn't get sold? I KNOWWW I know she's 14 (and I had a very annoying phase like this, I think I mentioned in a previous post, I GET IT) but they're HIS powers, and messing with (1) dealership will not really put a dent in sales overall because they can just move the cars to another sales lot, and it certainly wont change the industry anyway, it's more of a minor annoyance for (1) location. Also, usually people who work at car sales places work on commission, so if they dont make a sale, they don't have money to pay bills, or eat. sam baby if u wanna be an activist you need to like, actually look into these things. with as much money as her parents have, she could be doing a lot..more useful things for causes she cares about? it's frustrating to see someone with resources who doesn't know how to use them. but shes 14 so again. cannot be really upset :/

-paulina inviting danny and friends to her quinceañera, aw! even if it is just to get phantom to show up :') and there'll be a meteor shower, and we KNOW danny wants to be an astronaut!! there's not a meteor shower every night!! the tickets are non-refundable, but..she's rich? like. gotta agree with danny, they never get invited!! I KNOW it's the principle of keeping promises, but if she was that upset, she should've said something. directly. I hated how she was like, passive aggressive about it through the episode, like you SAID IT WAS FINE, THAT YOU'D GO TO THE PARTY TOO. MOVIES SHOW FOR A FEW WEEKS IN THEATERS. I know, he also agreed and walked into the portal. but. she made the choice to redo it SO quickly (even if it was because someone had to beat desiree) and danny, during their fight, brought up a lot of stuff sam's done in the past, meaning he was holding onto those memories and resentment was building. (I KEEP SAYING HE LOWKEY NEEDS THERAPY, BUT I THINK MOST EVERYONE IN THIS SHOW KINDA DOES) which...is a red flag? and then they didnt even GO to the party URGH I know she tried to make up for it, but it really felt like Sam fucked up and barely faced any consequences and got everything she wanted in the end. I KNOW it's a kids show obv they aren't going to go too in depth, and she undid the damage, kinda, but...I DUNNO how to articulate it but it rubbed me the wrong way.

-but on a note about desiree, her powers of wishes were STRONG ENOUGH TO ERASE NOT JUST THEIR MEMORIES, BUT DANNY'S POWERS?! fuck, if I was danny I'd be like, trying to make friends with her. I know they always have horrible side effects as most genie-granted wishes do, but...c'mon, I'd at least TRY to be like 'I wish no ghosts would hurt anyone in my town' or 'I wish vlad would lose his ghost powers forever no matter What and also forget about my mom' LIKE. SHIT DESIREE IS SO POWERFUL. rewriting reality powerful, basically!! appreciate her. respect her.

-aww, sam helping tucker pass the nurse's office so he wouldn't see because he's afraid of medical stuff? very sweet. I also don't like medical stuff, I've gotten a lot better at handling it tho. but seeing blood and needles still makes me feel lightheaded x_x

-FOLEY, BY TUCKER FOLEY. I want to make my own perfume, that's so cool. even if his first attempt isn't good, he's pretty consistently shown to have an inventor/entrepreneur streak in the show, so like. I can see him inventing or making something (or several somethings) that make him $$$ when he grows up :) proud of my creative son

-I know the 'creepy abandoned hospital on the edge of town' is a joke and the creepy hospital trope is so Worn Out, but in my town we actually DO have a hospital like that! my dad was born in it, but its not in use and hasn't been for, like, 20 years! it needs to be torn down but I think the city doesn't wanna pay the money. the inside is horrible, spray painted and broken glass and shit everywhere. but there's still like, rusty equipment and fucking DOLLS all over the place. the cops drive by it pretty frequently to make sure no one is like, breaking in. (because of water damage, some of the areas really aren't safe. also, asbestos, but people still go in anyway) but also, some of my town was used in a filming for a stephen king show. So it's lowkey spooky all over. just a fun personal tidbit :) to lead into saying, any hospital abandoned for any period of time is NOT safe to quarantine these kids in JKSAHDKF like I KNOW it's a ghost trying to do this, but NONE of these parents are even like, 'well, why dont we keep them in the regular, working hospital'....YIKES. this hospital looks pretty accurate to the one in town. grungy and spooky.

-fentons are tax evaders confirmed by jack's fear of being audited, lol no one is surprised

-ghost sickness via ghost bugs. horrifying concept. I actually expected it to be a new villain, not dr. spectra again! this is a very elaborate scheme. her new form rules, love the new costume. the way none of the bg kids seem to recognize her as their old school councilor. did we just forget about that completely?

-dash watching romance movies in the fucked up ghost hospital. same.

-'oh please, you're ghosts, do you have any idea what YOU smell like?' no, tucker, what DO ghosts smell like? I genuinely didn't know they would even have a smell, I actually want to know now.

-it feels like a while since we've seen jazz!! i was happy to see her again, even if she was a head in a jar for most the episode. I want another jazz-focused ep!!

-we finally see danny doing space-related stuff!! him and his friends stargazing to open ep 3 of s2. cute :) until, GHOST PIRATES!!!!! ...ghost pirate captain is a small child?? VOICED BY TAYLOR LAUTNER???

-oh, the easy listening is ember's song instrumental slowed. 'vapor drone' THEY VAPORWAVED HER!!! ember in a pirate outfit tho >>>>. and the cruise being called m.bersback JKASDHJK. ember adopting a little pirate brother is also pretty cute. concerning this teen and little kid have such bad opinions of adults, like, who hurt you?? (how did you DIE ALSO?? im always lowkey curious about that. we know desiree died at an old age, but her ghost form is young, probably mid-20s, so I wonder how that sort of thing works...its a more mental thing, isn't it?) but ghost team-ups are always cool to see, even if ember bailed after danny took her guitar. I guess she probably thinks youngblood can handle it (which, he's been owning danny this far in the ep, so...fair)

OKAY LETS GO. this feels like it should be a mid finale or straight up finale.

-...speaking of finales. why is ep 4-5 of s2 combined into a 50 minute episode? I havent even clicked play and im concerned. weird placement, like, this season JUST started and we're getting a two parter? okay...why are the episodes placed like this? why not put this at episode 10 or something, for a mid-season thing?

You press your lips together and flip over your phone as Xiumin comes back from the restroom.

“Did you miss me?”

“So, so much,” you tease. “So much that I finished your dessert.”

Xiumin gasps in mock betrayal. “Y/n, how could you do this to me?”

You lick your lips. “Easily, to be honest. The cake was yummy.”

“I’ll have to get a taste of it later,” Xiumin says, eyes trained on your lips.

“I have to go home,” you reply regretfully. “I have a shift tomorrow and an essay that I haven’t gotten around to.”

“Oh, sure. I’ll drop you off,” Xiumin says, already calling for the check. Within minutes you’re back in his car, and he drops you off at your apartment with a goodbye kiss and a promise that he’ll call you.

Once you’re upstairs, you reach for phone and sigh. It’s been nearly three weeks, time to get this over with. You text Yoongi: You can call me now if u want.

No less than a minute later, you receive another text.

Yoongi: I want to talk in person. Lamppost?

It’s late, you type back.

Yoongi: When has that ever stopped us?

You sigh, dragging yourself into a standing position. You owe it to him; you did lie, after all. Throwing on a thick jacket, you set out for the tiny street, dark except for the singular lamppost that you’ve grown so fond of.

When you get there, you see Yoongi already leaning against the post, silhouetted against the light.

“Y/n.”

“Yoongi.”

There’s an agonizing pause before Yoongi speaks. “Tell me everything.”

There’s a burning in your chest, a niggling little feeling, an insistence that you can lie your way through this too. A thousand stories whirl through your head– you were there because Lisa insisted, it was just a coincidence, you’d forgotten he was an idol, what even was BTS?– but his eyes bore into you, severe yet vulnerable, as though he’s pleading with you.

You take the deepest breath of your life and look down at your hands. “2014.”

“What?”

“I’ve known you since 2014. Not your debut, I’m not that good.” You can’t look at him as you lace your fingers together. “My first music video was War of Hormone. My first bias was RM. My second bias was –is– Suga.”

You hear him inhale sharply, but you plow forward. “I know your birthday is March 9th, and I know you love meat more than anything. I know your hometown, your blood type, and your music, god…” you realize you’re rambling like an idiot, surely scaring him off, but you can’t stop now.

“I know everything about Suga, because I’m a fan. I’m an ARMY. That’s the big secret,” you tell him.

“So…” Yoongi says quietly. “This whole time…?”

“I’ve been lying to you,” you tell him bluntly. “Since the beginning, since you were Agust, the guy who helped me when I broke my shoe–” your voice breaks, and you bite your lip to keep your breathing steady.

“I’m really sorry, Yoongi, I never wanted to lie, it just got out of hand.”

“No shit. No fucking shit,” Yoongi laughs, an octave too high. “God, you– y/n. Are you… why? All of these lies, all of the… why?”

“I wanted to be your friend,” you whisper. “You needed a friend. Someone that you can talk to, outside of the boys.”

“Don’t tell me what I needed!” Yoongi hisses. “I needed the truth, the one thing you’ve never given me.”

“I tried so hard, but you never gave me a chance,” you say pleadingly. “Every way I turned, it was ‘having a female friend is so refreshing’, ‘my fans don’t want to know the real me’– what am I supposed to think? If I hadn’t lied to you, you wouldn’t know my name!”

“I–” Yoongi’s shoulders tense, and you realize he might say that it would’ve been preferable, and god, if he does your heart might break–

“You’re right.” he says.

“What?”

Yoongi scratches his head. “Yeah, I’m angry, but… I haven’t been a perfect friend either, and whatever you saw at that fanmeet–” he shakes his head. “Nothing happened. I didn’t meet that girl.”

“Oh.”

“Just saying.”

“Yoongi, I’m–”

“Y/n, really–”

You freeze. “You first.”

“No, go ahead.”

You take a deep breath. “I’m sorry for lying to you.”

“I’m sorry for making you feel like you had to lie,” Yoongi replies. “You’re right, if you’d told the truth then I wouldn’t  know your name, and even with all the craziness…” he shakes his head. “I wouldn’t give that up for anything.”

You blink twice. “Wait, so…?”

Yoongi shrugs. “Everything’s out in the open now, right?” he eyes you. “Right?”

“Right. Nothing– no more lies,” you stammer.

“Then let’s stay friends. Please,” he says. “That is… if you want to?”

You don’t need words to respond, not when you can just hug him tightly and for the first time in months you relax into his arms, and you can breathe, and about a thousand tons of weight are lifted off your shoulders.

“I’m, uh… I’m sorry you had to see that,” he says after you’ve pulled away. “That girl, I mean, at the fanmeet.”

“You’re only human, Yoongi,” you shrug. Yes, it did upset you, but without any sort of reasoning you’re not going to take it out on him. “Besides, I should thank you.”

Yoongi stares. “You should?”

“Sure. I ended up getting together with my boyfriend because of it.”

Yoongi’s mouth hangs open. “You have a…? I mean, of course, right, sorry, yeah.” He kicks at the ground. “Is it that guy from before? The…” he snaps his fingers. “The X guy?”

“Xiumin, yeah. We’ve been dating since the day of the fanmeet. Since my…” you falter. “My birthday.”

“It was your birthday?” Yoongi asks softly.

“Yes, but don’t worry or anything,” you tell him. “I still had a lot of fun.”

“I’m glad,” he says. “I feel like such an idiot– I should’ve known, or… or something.” Despite the darkness masking his expression, you can sense that he’s not talking about your birthday anymore.

“It’s not your fault,” you reply. “I’m a good liar.”

“Yeah, but for months? And we texted all the time– did Lisa know?”

“No, it was just me.” You think that’s it, that’s the end of the confession, and you’re about to turn around when you feel a hand on your shoulder.

“I’m so, so sorry,” he whispers, and your breath hitches at the emotion in his voice. “I know what it’s like to have to be someone all the time, and you didn’t have anyone to lean on�� you must’ve been going crazy.”

“Maybe a little,” you confess to lighten the mood. “But it was worth it.”

“Y/n, I–”

You check the time and yelp. “I need to get going! Fuck, I’ve got an essay to write and work and…” you look at him helplessly. “I’m sorry again, for everything.”

“You don’t need to apologize,” Yoongi says with a weak smile. “I’m just glad you don’t need to lie anymore.”

Me too. More than you know. You blink hard and stick out your hand. “Friends? For real this time?”

“Of course,” Yoongi shakes. “And as your friend I owe you a very belated birthday gift.”

You sigh bemusedly as the car pulls up to the curb. “How does it do that?”

Yoongi winks. “Magic. C’mon, we’ll give you a ride.”

You’re certainly not going to turn down his offer. The car ride is quiet and for the first time, so are your thoughts. You’re not worried about accidentally making a reference, or blurting out something you have no right knowing. You feel completely, entirely at peace.

The car stops in front of your building and you get out.

“Goodnight, Yoongi.”

There’s a smile in Yoongi’s voice. “Goodnight, y/n.”

You go upstairs and work on your essay until the sky begins to lighten. Sitting back, you rub your eyes and yawn– you weren’t planning on pulling an all-nighter, but you need to get your work out of the way. Besides, you’re seeing Xiumin later and you don’t want to be stressed.

By midmorning, your lack of sleep is taking a toll: you nearly fall asleep during a scene in Improv and you forget how basic addition works during your math class.

“Ugh,” you groan during lunch, pressing your cheek against the table.

Lisa pokes you with a chopstick. “Are you okay? You’re not usually this dead by noon.”

“I need sleep,” you grumble. You haven’t slept well in a few weeks and last night’s all-nighter didn’t help.

“Such a sleepy bean. No wonder you’re a Suga bias,” Lisa teases.

“And you’re either a cinnamon roll or a sinnamon roll, so it makes sense that you like Jimin,” you reply.

Lisa gasps in mock horror. “Meanie!”

“I don’t hear you denying it.”

“Yeah, because I can’t,” Lisa says, glancing at her phone. “Hey, I’ve got to get going, I need to convince my lit teacher that I deserve to pass.”

“Good luck,” you say before faceplanting back on the table. A few minutes later you feel a tap on your shoulder.

“Lisa…?”

“No, it’s just me,” Xiumin says, sliding into the seat next to you. “Sorry to disappoint.”

You lean into his embrace. “How could you disappoint me?”

“Fair,” Xiumin says. “Hey, I was wondering if you wanted to go watch a movie this weekend?”

“Yeah, let me…” you yawn. “Let me check my calendar.”

“You seem really tired. Did you get any sleep?” Xiumin asks, his voice laced with concern.

“You’re sweet, and I’m fine,” you reply. “Just chatted with a friend and worked on my essay. Took me all night.”

“Aish, that’s not healthy.” Xiumin says, kissing the top of your head. “You need to figure out your sleep schedule.”

“Mm, I’ll just tell my insomnia to go away, that’ll fix it.” you snuggle into him.

“You only have one afternoon class, yeah? Go home and sleep. Your shift isn’t until tonight anyways.”

You yawn again, too tired to argue. “M’kay.”

“Good. I’ll see you later, y/n.” Xiumin presses a kiss to your cheek and then he’s gone.

You suffer through your next class, hanging onto your consciousness by a thread, and as soon as you get home you damn near collapse. Your head barely gets a chance to hit the pillow before you’re down for the count.

You wake up a few hours later to notice a missed call from Yoongi. Curious, you call him back.

“Hello?”

“Hey, Yoongi, what’s up? Is something wrong?”

You hear a laugh on the other end of the line. “Not at all, I was just wondering how you’re doing. I told the guys everything… I couldn’t keep it from them after Jin saw you at the fanmeet.”

“Oh?” you should’ve expected this, but you don’t want them to be mad at you.

“Yeah, Tae’s a bit pissed and Jungkook is embarrassed ‘cause he called you noona, but for the most part they understand. Still, if you want to visit sometime to get back on the maknae line’s good side, you’re welcome to.”

“I’ll keep that in mind. How are you, Yoongi? Are you eating enough?” you’ve been scrolling through some fansites recently and noticed him looking skinnier than usual.

“Yeah, I–” Yoongi sighs. “Maybe not. I can’t afford to be chubby, or–”

“Min Yoongi, you’d better start eating well,” you say sternly. “Seriously. The main thing your fangirls want is for you to take care of yourself.”

“How do you know– oh.” Yoongi says in realization. “I guess you would know, wouldn’t you?”

You smile. “I would. Eat, sleep, don’t go too hard on yourself. All that jazz.” you’re telling him everything you and your fellow ARMYs have always wanted to say. “Oh, and tell Jungkook to pull his shirt up more often, I personally know someone that actually fainted from that bit of choreography.”

“It wasn’t you, I hope?” Yoongi says teasingly.

“Of course not. I told you, I stan Suga. Have you heard of him? He’s a great lyricist,” you say mirthfully, leaning back on your pillow.

“Mm, no, can’t say I know him,” Yoongi replies, playing along. “Sounds like a great guy.”

“He really is.”

The line is quiet for a second, before Yoongi clears his throat. “Well, I have to get going.”

“Comeback rehearsal?”

“How did you–” Yoongi clucks his tongue. “Right. Forgot. Jeez, you really know everything.”

“Yeah, but I’ll shut up. I don’t want to make you uncomfortable.”

“You couldn’t make me uncomfortable. In fact, it’s kind of fun. I don’t know many fans that’ll tell me exactly what they think, with zero filter.”

“Aw, I feel special. Now go on to your rehearsal,” you say. “I’ll talk to you later.”

“You will?”

“Duh, you’re the only person I know who’s up as late as I am all the time.”

“What about your boyfriend?”

You pause. “He’s a morning person.”

“Huh. Alright, I really have to get going,” Yoongi says.

“Bye, Yoongi.”

“Bye, y/n.”

"H-how... is the crew?" Rose asked as Cass came up from below deck.  She bit her tongue hard and tried not to show her embarrassment on her face.  Ever since the whole situation began, Rose had felt like she couldn't say anything right around Cass.  It didn't help that she had to watch Rapunzel and Eugene near constantly comforting one another and ached to do the same for Cass but couldn't without again crossing the line Cass kept around her.  "I mean that soup I made must be helping, mom always said soup helps an upset tummy, and, unn, what's food poisoning but a really bad upset tummy, heh?"  

Cass' face became gloomier as Rose spoke.  Rose began to wonder if drowning was really that bad if it meant she could crawl under the ship and hide.  

"They're not going to be able to help anytime soon," Cass sighed leaning on the banister of the ship.  Rose followed suit sidling up next to her, if for no other reason than to be sure she wasn't staring at things she at which shouldn't be staring.  Cass didn't flinch at the closeness and continued, "Ugg, it's unbelievable!  If just half of the crew were back on its feet, then we wouldn't have any trouble seizing any pirate ship that came for us."  

Rose could see the worry on Cass' face; she wasn't the strong, confident leader she had been at the meeting with Rapunzel and Eugene.  Alone she wasn't nearly so sure, and as much as Rose wanted to support Cass, she wasn't sure either.  "Sorry, I wasn't much help before."

Cass looked taken aback by that and stared for a moment at Rose, "What do you mean?  If it weren't for you Rose, that chuul would have snapped me in half or something."  

"Ya, I hit the big lobster thing, anyone could have done that.  But the pirates, they were just playing with me."  Rose felt like she was sinking and buried her face into her arms, muffling her voice.  "You and Pyrepy had to come save me."  

"Well..." Cass started but fell silent for a moment and, over the sound of the waves, Rose could hear Cass wringing her hands.  "Why don't you use a sword?"  Rose looked up in confusion at Cass, what did her weapon have to do with anything?  Cass seemed to read this question on her face.  "Your hammer would be useful against armored opponents; it would do a lot of damage, and you wouldn't have to hold back for fear of hurting someone.  That's why you were so effective against the chuul, but I saw the way you fought the pirates, you were hesitating.  Besides you're good with a sword, I've seen you wield one."  

They shared a smile and a faint blush remembering that first meeting, and Rose found herself chucking, "Not as good as you."

Cass blushed a little redder and nudged Rose with her shoulder, "I'm not Eugene, you don't need to flatter me, I'll teach you."  

"R-really?"  Rose blushed deeper now as Cass stood back up and started across the deck scooping up one of the pirates forgotten sword and tossed it to Rose.  

"Sure," Cass smiled drawing her sword her eyes sparkling with excitement that she tried to keep off her face, "I've never had a proper sparring partner before."  

Rose turned the sword over in her hands feeling it; it was so much lighter than her hammer it threw her off for a moment.  That and she was so excited she had to keep herself from vibrating in excitement.  She was training with Cass, something she had dreamed about her whole life. "Alright, so what do I do first."  

Looking up she suddenly found Cass in front of her, Cass' sword, the one Rose had repaired, cut through the air and slammed into her sword.  She could almost feel the sound of the ringing steel, and the sword nearly flew from her hand.  "Keep your hand firmly gripped on your sword, or you'll lose it!"  

Rose shot to attention taking a step back, retreating from Cass who advanced and didn't let up on her attack.  Her sword came in again, this time Rose was ready and blocked it.  "Block with the flat of your sword, unless you want the edge of your sword to look like a comb!  Evading completely is better!"  

"R-right!"  Rose nodded feeling like she was a little girl on her first day in Xavier's shop, except he didn't yell as much.  One thing Cass couldn't or at least didn't comment on was Rose's footwork.  Rose was light on her feet when dodging or retreating and solid when she took a stand.  

Rose quickly got used to the feeling of the sword; its lightness made it easy to maneuver, and its length and cross guard allowed her to defend with it far more effectively than with her hammer.  Though there were still times when Cass' sword slipped past her defenses, only to retreat knowing the damage it could have done, those times were swiftly dwindling in number.  Now Rose press the attack occasionally swinging out fiercely against Cass' sword.  However, after a few solid blows to Cass' sword, she accepted the blows with no resistance letting her sword bend under Rose's and snap it around to thrust dangerously close to Rose's chest.  

"You can't just attack my sword," Cass paused for the first time and withdrew her sword.  "Defending and trying to beat my sword into submission won't get you very far, you have to attack me."  

Rose breath caught in her throat at those words, and she had to stop herself from shouting 'Are you crazy!'  Instead Rose shook her head, "I don't want to be reckless, I could hurt someone."  

Cass didn't say anything to that at first just fixing Rose with a deadpan stare until the Blacksmith was quite aware of how silly what she said had sounded.  Rose sighed and buried her face in her hand shaking her head and slumping back into the mast.  "Unn, maybe I should just get a frying pan like Rapunzel."  

Cass chuckled at that, "I'm actually shocked Raps hasn't hurt someone with that thing.  I think it's some princess power that lets her bean people on the head and just knock them out."  She stepped up a put a comforting hand on Rose's shoulder, a shiver of delight passed through her.  "The rest of us just have to get good enough with a sword that we can fight without hurting anyone."  

Rose lowered her hand and looked into Cass' hazel eyes, "You really think I could be that good?"

Cass smiled, and a thrill shot through Rose her breath catching as Cass faced her only an arm's length away.  "Like I said, I've seen you; you're good with a sword.  Maybe we could perfect each other, together."  Cass released Rose shoulder and held out her hand to the other girl.  

Rose flushed crimson at those words, and after a moment Cass blushed a little too, but she didn't retract any of her words or her hand.  After a minute of hearts thumping in their ears, the pair giggled a little at themselves, and Rose clasped Cass's hand.  "Okay, I trust you."  

Still smiling Cass nodded at that and pulled Rose off the mast and to her feet.  There was a reluctance in letting go, but they did and stood apart swords up and ready.

They clashed again and this time and this time Rose attack without hesitation.  The gap in their skill was clear, but Rose was better than any of the pirates that had attacked their ship.  Slowly the pair forgot about the looming danger; their partner was the only thing that filled their thoughts, what would she think of this thrust or that parry.  Their battle became mobile as they raced across the decks leaping from steps scaling yardarms or even swinging on ropes.  At these athletic feats, Rose proved herself Cass' equal, all traces of her clumsiness disappearing as Rose worked to keep up with Cass.  They wore themselves down without care or thought of what they would do if suddenly happened upon by pirates.  They were having the time of their lives, and one could forgive another for mistaking them for a pair energetic little girls at play.  

Hours past like minutes to them and it was only when they were both panting in the heat of the high sun, and their swords were slipping in the sweat that had soaked through their gloves that they finally paused for a rest.  

"Maybe we should take a break," Cass said sheathing her sword and relaxing.  Rose vaguely registered that Cass had said something.  Her eyes swept across Cass' form lost in the sight of her disheveled hair, the way the sweat ran down her cheeks and Cass' hazel eyes glistening in the light.  Rose just stared like she was seeing Cass for the first time again, all the adamant love and adoration of youth mixed with the desires of adulthood into something she didn't have a word to describe, but it absolutely swept off her feet.

After a few agonizingly long and delightful moments Cass noticed the silence and turned to look questioningly at Rose. “Hmm? What is it?”

For several seconds Rose is too lost in her little daze to answer. But with Cass' eyes on her Rose suddenly realizes she’s staring.  Shooting up straight, Rose tries to speak but only manages to stammer out. “Wha–? N-nothing! Just… lookin’.”

“…at what?”  Cass chuckles and tilts her head with a smile.

Rose sobbed to herself wondering why Cass was making it so hard to say something.  “…O-oh, you know. A little of this, a little of that. U-uhm. Whaddaya say we keep going?”

"Sure, but just a little longer," Cass nods.  The lack of understanding from Cass does nothing to ease Rose's feelings of being an absolute fool.  Deep down inside a part of her was screaming: 'Just to get it out and say it! Cassandra, you are the most beautiful, strong, smart, amazing woman in the world.'  But that tiny part just couldn't muster up Rose's courage enough for Rose to break her promise to Cass.

Chapter 2 thoughts/promised essay? lol

current feelings are KILL BILL SIRENS …. IM READY TO D*E

ik i said i was gonna write an essay(tm) but i am, as the functioning adults say, swamped. so give me time!!! (lookin at u kim and bri and jen) there is so much to unpack, you know. but some prev posts I’ve reblogged recently are very good reads!! go look at them!

so (spoilers, obviously)

after the initial shock of finding out they were putting the r/e related stuff in the film i definitely clowned out a little (a lot) because … i stand by what i’ve said in the past which is there’s really no “”Good”” way to canonize the subtext in this story. they’re closeted? that sucks. they’re out? that sucks worse because it perpetuates a lot of homophobic tropes! don’t get me wrong, it makes total sense that we want to see coded characters finally get to “come out” because that validates so much for us, and its been thirty years of speculation, and its tiresome!! but we... won. but at a cost ajdsuus

of course it’s difficult to know what exactly the film is trying to say about richie’s sexuality without having seen it, but from what i’ve seen so far, i’m optimistic. i read all the previous trashed scripts that were written before the 2017 adaptation, and i didn’t even IMAGINE that they would be keeping some of the gay richie stuff, so that’s very galaxy brain of them. i know it’s disappointing for some to know that richie gets the bulk of the subtext (ik that was my initial response having grown so attached to eddies book characterization) but now w i’d argue that that’s the best thing to do for the story. it establishes the relationship, and it keeps them from violently killing TWO gay people in one movie. this is personal bias i guess but i’d actually argue that it’s more in character too, and i think it’s near impossible to do a decent gay reading of eddie without being in his pov.

so now that i’m past the stages of shock, fear, and anger, i’m in a weird uncanny valley of i don’t quite believe that it’s actually happening. in a mainstream horror film where the target audience are straight dudes. i’m legit in such disbelief that they’re actually going to TALK about gay richie, that its a huge central arc for him? that its not just a little subplot? and on top of that, i keep forgetting that the adrian scene is going to be the first thing the audience (me) sees and LIKE. HOMIES. I AM GOING TO STRAIGHT UP LOSE MY MIND. the adrian scene doesn’t get NEARLY enough discussion, which i 100% get because it’s incredibly difficult, but it’s one of the strongest pieces of narrative evidence (also a complete parallel) for r/e in the first place!!! like there’s a reason it’s there even if stephen k*ng’s stupid ass only wrote it for shock value!!!

all the praise that bill hader has been getting gives me big huge emotions that i can barely hold in my body. richie is a character with SO much nuance and the fact that he’s being treated with respect and depth makes me feel very very very fragile. i genuinely believe the cast and the writing will be phenomenal and that’s already more than i could ask for. ALSO the spoiler mentioned where there’s going to be a scene post the losers leaving derry where they all receive letters from stan, and OH MY GOD! that’s … such an incredibly beautiful and bittersweet way to end this story! i think that’s a brilliant add and i can’t wait to see how it plays out on screen

I only just really GOT (I’ve been too busy clowning out to really Think, okay) the whole significance of completing the carving, after everything went down. before they all went their separate ways. at the point of the film where I assume my son finally accepts~ himself. he’s defeated it, along with his fear. he carved it because he didn’t want to forget him. they all forget when they leave derry, but that carving is his reminder, forever. christ i am fragile!!!!
