I dont know if you're still doing Sunday confessions this week, but my confession is I'm tired of doomscrolling stans of TZ. I'm sorry to start this negative on your blog, but it's too much. As of recently, there have been certain anons who go on some blogs, including your own destiny, who are so negative at both of theirs career cause they can't compare it to strangers on stantwitter. It's the main reason I left the app because it gets so tribal and unnecessarily dramatic when it should just be fun and light-hearted.

Tom's on stage rn, and all you guys worry about is the films he's not going to do like it has any effect on you. I see some fans who are annoyed that there aren't any casting rumours for Z like she wasn't dominating the culture at the beginning of 2024 with Dune 2 and Challengers.

As a fan of musicians, it's normal for your fav artist to have quiet moments in their career. I'm so happy Sade was big in the 80s cause if she started in this gen, ppl would've called her a flop due to her personal choice to go on hiatus between albums😭.

Heck, Frank Ocean has only made two albums, I don't count that apple thing he was doing😭.

What I'm trying to say don't care because the quality of music they have made outways the quantity for me to consume as a fan so that it doesn't matter. Also, it's fun to miss ppl.

There have been ao many good films this yr, Bikeriders, I Saw the TV Glow, Inside Out 2, Longlegs, Twisters etc... Watching films that don't star your fav doesn't mean you're a bad fan. There was a time before online when a good trailer was the reason to watch film. Now it feels so competitive and tribal like it's not just a movie. I beg some of you unclench. That THR article was a mistake cause some if you guys sound like nicki on spaces, lol.

There is an abundance of art rn pls explore the range of great actors and films outside of TZ so you don't come across crazy that they aren't living for you, a stranger who consumes pls!!!!

Fans are putting unnecessary pressure and negativity on themselves when they put so much undue attention and focus on an actor's career or future goals and prospects. Just ENJOY the ride!!!

I remember liking a BUNCH of different actors when I was younger, and I didn't care what they chose to do as far as a film next.... I was just excited to hear about a new project that they were doing, because it meant that I was going to get to see them again lol. 🤭 There wasn't this need to compare my faves to other actors. I appreciated other actors too! I didn't view it as a competition. I just viewed it as like colleagues all working for the same company (Hollywood).

THIS!!! Way too many people in fandoms these days either only watch their "faves", or watch films in silos and don't just view ALL film as just simply art. Even if they watch films of other actors from different fandoms, they watch them to simply criticize, look down upon, or find some kind of fault so that it doesn't somehow "take away" from their actor that they love. 🙄 Like, chill out!! It's much more fun to just be chill about all of this stuff.

And yes, I won't deny that some fandoms can be overly harsh towards our faves, and even put them down, or try to make us feel bad. But that doesn't mean that the ACTOR himself/herself feels this way, so why punish him/her just because of some immature nobodies in their fandom?? 🤔

Thank you!👏🏾 Anon...I've been preaching this and saying this on my blog for YEARS!! While I LOVE Tom and Zendaya, there are also a WIDE-range of various different other actors and films that I love too! 😃 When you just simply view films as just ART and don't view it as some type of competition all the time, you can just relax, and enjoy films from a VARIETY of actors, and appreciate them all for various reasons. Films are just supposed to be for enjoyment. Watching something of another actor or genre isn't going to make you a "bad fan" lol.

Say what you will about JE, but even HE denounced all of the silly comparisons btwn him and Austin and doesn't understand why fans turn art/acting into some type of "blood sport". I personally agree with him. It's so dumb!

I’ve been seeing a lot of thoughts like this around different social media over the last couple of days, and I don’t really know how to respond to it because I feel like we don’t really know much about it. If Taehyung is getting less solo promo, couldn’t it be because he doesn’t want it? Maybe he wants to be on his own and not followed around by cameras for everything, we really don’t know.

But also, like rumar said above, HYBE is doing promo for their own stuff, and I don’t really see that that’s definitely different from what they do for the other members. Did they do much, if any, promotion for Hobi’s work with W Magazine? If not, why would we expect them to do that for Tae’s Vogue shoot? Why would we expect them to do anything for work outside their own purview? Personally, I wouldn’t.

BTS are under them as artists at an agency, essentially, or even really a record label (it basically serves as both for them). If they’re doing work and attending events outside the purview of HYBE, why would HYBE be all over it with their own cameras and whatnot? That wouldn’t make sense.

Taehyung’s appearance at the Celine show, for example, was something he did with Celine. In the capacity of his agency, I’m sure HYBE was involved in helping to get it organized and getting him to where he needed to be and everything, but they probably weren’t there filming, you know? And it’s also not the kind of thing that they would need to do promo for, because it’s not their thing. The Vogue shoot is the same -- that’s Vogue’s thing, so it’s Vogue who would be expected to do promo.

I know HYBE did a BB for Jin going to that premier recently, but that’s the only one, right? And hasn’t Jin been to more than one? Maybe it just worked out for them to film for that particular event for whatever reason, or maybe they were more involved in making that happen, but again, we don’t know.

Ultimately, Taehyung’s success is HYBE’s success, just like BTS’s success is HYBE’s success. For that reason alone, I don’t think it makes sense to think that the company would intentionally sabotage Tae or any other member. It’s a company, the motives behind it are to make money, and the members succeeding in their endeavors is the way to do that.

I think a lot of people fall into thinking that their faves aren’t being treated right or aren’t being promoted as well as the others, but remember just a few months ago, everyone was talking about how Hobi wasn’t being promoted enough. Now it’s Tae, and I assume it’s because he has a lot of his own things going on, but I don’t really know why we would expect HYBE to address all of those activities when they aren’t really HYBE activities.

HYBE does promo for their stuff, other companies do promo for their own stuff. It’s just that they happen to want to hire Tae to do it -- probably because he’s his own promo.

Fashion anon again thanks for answering, I know that was a lot! It's exactly as you say, anything you owned came with a place in the hierarchy. But you only actually had to worry if you wanted to be part of the in-crowd. If not, there was judgment and derisiveness but not outright bullying. It was safer not to be cool, less pressure in the long run. (cont.)

You are right about Hao. He IS a rebel in the sense that it's easy to be laughed at if you slip with your choices, especially in Korea where they tend to play it very safe and classic. The stage is one thing, but street fashion is different especially for men. So even if he wears trendy labeled things, he is being gutsy in even choosing to stray from a certain line, he could become a fashion victim (GD anyone?) but he wears things with conviction because he has faith in his own vision.I agree about Gyuhao! What I see from Gyu is that while Hao cares more about self-expression through getting a certain look/making a style statement, he wants to be aesthetic himself, his goal is looking and feeling good, so in doubt less is more. Hao would make sure you got a stunning dress that was very you, and Gyu would prioritize you feeling stunning in the dress, so yes, they balance each other since Hao deals in the fantasy and Gyu in the concrete and practicalities.Investment pieces in fashion are typically things that are high quality, versatile, and "timeless" classics , so they will keep their value or even augment it with time. The kind of thing you pass down to your kids, or resell well if in good condition. Different brands (esp. Big-name) have different specialties. Chanel is iconic for quilted bags and tweed jackets, Burberry for Trench coats etc. Or as you said, Rolex for watches. Gyu's Hermes belt is not a BIG investment piece, but it's a start.I think my favorite style is Vernon's not because I find it pretty itself or flattering, but for how "him" it is and because I love his use of color and accessories, however jarring it may be sometimes.( Like seriously, he sometimes looks like a stoner hobo who had an accident in a paint shop😅😂) Whose style is your fave? :) (and sorry for the rant again)

hmmm...i don’t know if it was safer to be not cool...it could result in stuff that could affect you for the rest of your life. esp when you’re a kid and you don’t necessarily know that its okay to not be cool? yeah as you get older and you realize ‘oh i don’t have to do everything society tells me to,’ that can put less stress on yourself but to me, thats a different story. as a child you don’t really know that. i think judgment and derisiveness can be bullying too ahaha...but maybe im getting a bit too personal and projecting haos ‘faith in his own vision’ is really such a central aspect in his artistic life i think thats one of the things that i really respect about him, even if i dont necessarily sometimes agree with some of his artistic choices, just him going out there and pulling it off with such confidence is always super respectable to me i dont think ive paid attention to mingyus fashion choices past its general simplicity. i think its interesting that you find that his priority is making himself an aesthetic so his goal is looking and feeling good? it may not be an easy question, but what about his fashion makes you think that? but wowowow!! you put it to words! “Hao deals in the fantasy and Gyu in the concrete and practicalities.” yesyesyesyes!!! exactly that! and i even think i mentioned in my tags of some post that i always felt like if gyuhao were to design clothes, mingyu could be the fundamental layer and lay the foundations, while hao would take on the more creative expression aspect of it, which is, i think, in essence what you yourself said as well!ooh thank you for the definition!vernooonnn omgggg yes his use of colors is really something else! hes not shy at all with them either, often opting for the lighter or more neon shades of them, instead of the darker, more muted ones (though he does have his muted fashion style as well, i believe). hmm its a bit difficult for me to answer that question because i dont really pay attention to fashion all that much, but i do have some commentary on some of the members (basically recurring thoughts when i see the members im about to talk about). my current fashion is woozi, the person id prefer to dress me up if i had to dress up nicely to go somewhere would be mingyu, i realllyyyy love how clothes fit hoshis body, i love how rebellious minghao gets with his fashion, and finally seungkwan has had some amazing looks and i will never shut up about how good he looks in a simple white t shirt and jeans but i also love his overall style just in general? its hard for me to pinpoint a favorite style specifically i think but minghao might win, just because its always so refreshing to look at his outfits. i feel that because fashions do have their ‘ins’ and ‘outs, ‘ a lot of outfits end up looking similar or have similarly derived themes, at least to the untrained eye ahah, like when i go out in public i feel like i see everyone wearing the same style of clothes more or less? just variations on a theme tbh. but for hao, those themes are either used as loosely tied in inspiration or not even present in his choice of clothes. you dont know what hes going to wear ever but when he wears it, you always think ‘yup this is minghao.’ i think i find his fashion the most exciting, aesthetically pleasing, and unpredictable

How did you get into them? okay trigger warnings for death and suicide for this story. i’m not gonna get super specific but basically in the fall of 2012 someone really close to me in my family died and one of the things they left me was their ipad, which was kinda weird but i like cherished that thing. anyway, i was having a really bad time and hadn’t worked out any of my anger or grief over their death. i was probably the most suicidal i’ve ever been. so over winter break in like early january 2013 i was up really late almost every night and just kind of hating being alive and one night i decided to go through all the music on the ipad. most of it was stuff i already knew or wasn’t interested in, but they i saw mcr was on there and i was like “huh, i’ve heard of them” and decided to listen to it. i put on bullets and i remember thinking romance was like so cool and original and risky for a band like that to do. and then about two seconds into honey, this mirror i thought “holy shit i love this” and idk i just didn’t want to die quite so badly. i listened to the entire discography that night, and again the next night and nearly every night for almost a year. practically all i listened to for all of high school was mcr. anyway yeah that’s how i got into them.

TORONTO-soaring skyline from the highways at night near the lakeshore, the lights from the condos are like stars and its ridiculous but i also loooooveee dubrovnik in croatia and hanoi in vietnam and kaunas in lithuania and kyoto in japan.....in dubrovnik the wind blows in from the shore and at night when the lights are on in the walled city the stone glows amber. In Hanoi in the old quarter, motorbikes flash by and there’s yelling and the smell of pork skewers and there’s old buildings and new ones, huge stalks of bamboo leaning up against the walls. In Kaunas the wind is so cold and sharp and the buildings are so clean and there’s that old fortress and the tower! it’s so beautiful. and Kyoto is old and archaic but so modern it hurts and the streets are too uniform and the houses creep me out a bit bc they’re so quiet.

hi holly! i was going to message you but then I got too shy, do you have any tips for someone who wants to start painting? i know you're an artist and thought you might be able to help, I really have no idea how to start, I'm just a clueless newborn fawn :( if not thank you anyway for reading this!

hello lil fawn! im sorry that u got 2 shy! i would love to talk to u if u ever want to, oh pupper i have so much to say and its all fuckin shit but maybe it could be helpful! im not a teacher idk remember this is all my perspective and u should do what u feel u should do!firstly i think you need to look at making art in two separate ways that should inform one another and sometimes work together, but while youre first figuring out how u draw/paint i would suggest working more with the 'honest kind' though i know a thousand tutors who say the opposite!!!! the honest kind~~~the im sitting with some paper and idk fuckin know what media, i just found this chewed up crayon on the floor and im going to run it across the paper,the i feel like drawing a dog and im just going to draw it like fuck proportion just draw it and have fun fun fun draw so many dogs that you start laughing because this one has the longest snout and you're imaging he would make a knughling noise, but this one! has the roundest belly with the smallest legs and would plod around wowthe i am hurting or so happy or so obsessed with this one thing and i am just going to put it on the paperthe technical kind~~~~i dont know what resources you have access to but life drawing is invaluable, if u arent on a course that offers it then i'd highly suggest looking for sessions in your community that u can go to! im gonna assume ur alone in this and not on a course, i'd say research proportion, medias, other artists and how they work, i really dont know what to say for this but try to learn how to really look? and how to accurately draw an object or figure or whateverum go to public places and try to just draw people, practice practice practice im not really the right person to ask idk idkthe thing is~~~i know alot of people who have, and i did for years, not separate the two, sometimes not even engage in the 'honest kind' which is so sad because then everything is empty!!! its so fuckin flat!!! like i used to work on hyper real drawings and they were pretty but they were nothing? they werent excited, they wouldnt get anyone excited except for people to be in awe which is useless??? and im all for pretty, like if u want to design things like patterns for use that is no lesser than fine art (i mean im a designer so?) u just have to love ur craft or learn to love it and it might take forever but pal go go go! honestly you need to learn your process, its kinda very personal and very fun to work on,say mine is~~~for my bowl ladies (my really crumby art blog is @hgjosephine u can find examples there) : process lead, where i spend days and days in the ceramics room and teach myself how to throw pots but then learn how the clay moves and how it can be manipulated into non-traditional shapes, then from making shape i look for patterns across my work, analyse it and see how the shape feels feminine and that when i hold the they feel like wobbly stomachs, then also see how it reminds me of all of the many traditional paintings depicting women dancing naked in a circle, so figure out how to show this with illustration bla bla bla in other process lead projects i have sat for a week just fuckin drawing, using paint, mixing paints, seeing how they layer! how they can be translucent! what colours work! and my project will go on from thereOR often its research lead, where i spend weeks over sketchbooks filling them with thoughts, conversations with myself, article clippings, artist works that make me go wow!fuckin!what! and from there i get a thousand ideas and experiment with them and then just search out the good, the things that excite you and make you run home to tell everyone how EXCITED you are TIPS~~gouache is the king of layering and translucency and clean work? its my favourite paintone good paint brush is ur main man, if u can afford to then a £10+ brush (art is expensive, however it doesnt have to be this is just helpful, but tbh u could use a kitchen spoon to paint with and make the best thing ever!) also tiger sells some real cheap soft brushes dont leave ur brushes in the water 4 too long (lol @me) also dont let paint dry on ur brushes (particularly arylic the most evil dried paint) good paper is worth it!!!! when ur painting with water based paint u need a high gsm paper, i dont really paint with acrylic much but i think thats chill on most paper oil is an arsehole (v beautiful tho) and wants all sorts of paper prepping bc otherwise it will make the paper go weird and oily like chip shop paper however oil pastels r my fave pals!!!! and indian ink!!!!!! ink ink ink ink (play with water and ink, like putting water on the paper and then painting on ink in the wet its FUN) idk i just started talkin and didnt stop but good luck, have fun!!!!

It is said that Dallas hip-hop has always played in the shadows of Houston’s more popular hip-hop scene, but for Dallas rapper SHIIK, that couldn’t be further from the truth. Born Dominique Deshun Harris, the 26-year-old rapper recently released his latest project, “Kartoonz & Hood Movies” in April and as he prepares for the birth of his new son, he sat down with me and shared his musical influences, his plans for 2018 and why he feels the current music scene is “like Sheep as long as its ignorant“.

Who do you credit as the influence behind your music?

My influences in music have a very wide range. I was raised under 6 Brothers & Sisters so my music taste is wise beyond my years. Not in any specific order but, my Pops, He used to be a DJ when he got out the military and kept us on everything since birth from the 50’s to the early 2000’s. Because of my old man, I am never out of tune at any function no matter the age. I can vibe with anyone on anything cause of my dad.

My mother is a major influence on me, she’s from Louisiana and has an ear and voice for music. But beyond that, she is the real reason I started rapping. It may have been around my 18th birthday and was having trouble understanding a few things and controlling my frustrations; so she bought me a [writing] pad and told me started writing and from there she planted a seed that helped me grow into the artist I am today. My Brother Damien, who is also a rapper, showed me early on how to be a lyricist and paint pictures in my music. My wife Dionna I write the best music when we have our growing pains, and she keeps me motivated to stick to my music and never change up!

What hip-hop albums would you consider pivotal to your career?

Man, That is tough. I grew up on it all, but ones that really made an imprint on me as a kid had to be; Dr. Dre’s Chronic Album, Geto Boys’ My Mind Playing Tricks On Me, Chamillionaire’s Mix Tape Messiah, LL Cool J’s Bad Album, Lil Wayne’s Carter 1-3,

Kanye West’s Graduation, Wiz Khalifa’s Kush & Orange Juice, Kid Cudi’s Man On The Moon, Big Sean’s Finally Famous 3, and so many more. I could go all day, but this is just a few albums that really had a major impact on me coming up! But I like pretty much everything, I am from the south so like all of SUC ( Srewed Up Click) music I was raised on all the of the 3rd music. I’m going just say [Houston] as an album too, from the 90s to the early 2000s I kept them on repeat every day. When I was coming up I couldn’t you the name of some albums, people use to “bootlegs” of a lot of my fave artist albums and I could never go off what the seller marked it as I just knew one of my favorite artists has some new soul out and I need it!

When did you write your first song and what was it about?

Shoot, I started rapping at 9 years old and back then it was all just a lot of long verses, no context, hook or anything just a paper with “Babylon” type verses. (Laugh) So technically I started rapping in August of 2017 and It was after a real break up with my wife, Dionna. I had just moved back to Dallas from Alpine, Tx ( Shout out Alpine & Sul Ross State, Those my people) and we had a really bad break up. It seemed like there was no coming back from it. Everything around me stopped making sense, my basketball career had become stagnated and to be honest I was looking for love in all the wrong places. On top of that, I was also coming out of a group I was in called “2 Doms R Better Than 1”, but that’s another story. So it just seemed like nothing was working, and the entire time I kept trying to hide my love and ability in music. But as more situations hit me, the better the lyrics in my head were and then one day I couldn’t hide it anymore. I sat down threw on R.Kelly’s “When a Woman’s Fed Up,” rolled a few packs of Blue Optimos and came up with the track, “VICTIM”.

Who do you see yourself working with as an artist and producer?

Out the gate I have to say, Lyfe Jennings, Miguel, J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Kevin Gates, Erykah Badu, India Arie, Wiz [Khalifa], Curren$y, Mo3, Yella Beezy, & Post Malone are some of the artists would love to collab with. However, I can’t leave out Chris Brown, K Camp or Drake. As for producers, I would have to say The Dream, Metro Booming, Sledgron, Skee Beats, Zaytoven, T-Pain, No ID, and Kanye West. I would lose my absolute mind in the dojo with these guys. Just to hear some of the knowledge and stories of how this industry can make and break you is a privilege in itself.

Tell me about your latest project, “Kartoonz & Hood Movies”, and what inspired it?

My latest release project “Kartoonz & Hood Movies”, was released on April 20th. This tape is one for everyday things we see and have to deal with. I am a proper 90’s baby, I was raised on good classic movies about us like, “Colors”, “Menace II Society”, “Boyz N Da Hood”, “Juice,” etc., and by looking at this list and reading my title “Hood Movies” you can see a lot of these are blockbusters and far from “Hood or Low Budget” Movies. I was iterating to the subject and content of those movies about being from the “hood”. It also shows how your circumstance isn’t always forever, it can always be better and as “Man Of your Word” stand on what you believe in! The “Kartoonz” part is self-explanatory, unlike nowadays coming up our cartoons back then had a message every episode, showed you how you can be an everyday hero and believe in you. Little things like that, so that had a major impact on what raised me. “Kartoonz & Hood Movies” is just that giving you who I am in eighteen songs. Just taking you back to the good old days without all the “B**ches & H*es”. But real music! The producers for this one varied from B. Young, Kil’Lab Music, Fly Boi_DBone, RealNDaFields, Jia Beats and Mingo Gomez. I wanted to work with a solid foundation of producers that work just as hard in the craft like me.

Well, as of right now, I am currently in the works of releasing three tapes at the end of July. “Summer Of 65‘” produced By Lu.B Music, “91 Made Me” by produced By YB Beats and “Digital Dope” produced by Mingo Gomez. Each tape has its own producer. The three tapes are collaboration tapes between me and my producers with all original beats that they make themselves. I have no set release dates but they all will be available by the end of July 2018 on all digital platforms.

How important is the idea of connecting with other musicians to you? And how do you believe someone should utilize their connects?

Networking is the key to everything, cause, unfortunately, you can be GREAT at something and never get a chance. But to know someone that knows someone who can pull strings and make life for you a walk in the park or take you to the next level is great. Utilizing the connections is crucial and lucrative in becoming someone in the industry. You have to keep that connection alive. Most people will get a number and never use it or wait until they need something. NO NO NO! You hit them on the regular and see if you can help them or even just ask how things are going. Connections can take you around the world twice, without spending a dime. Just gotta know how to maneuver.

How would you describe your writing process?

I am a machine! I never stop writing and my process is unorthodox, spontaneous and just downright SMOKING FIRE! I am into writing as far as poems, plans or notes so writing isn’t the hard part, but what I found difficult was learning how to control my thoughts, how to make them tell a story and stay on beat.. can be absolutely BRUTAL! But I am a workhorse, and once my heart is made up, in my mind I am unstoppable. I BECAME A MONSTER. Now my process consists of creating the hook and making a song. I also use Instagram as an open gym for practice.

What is your thought about the current state of the Hip-hop game?

It’s absolute bullshit for those that would enjoy my kind of music. If you aren’t talking about guns, jewelry, women, drugs, and ignorant stuff, your music gets pushed away or skipped. I ain’t knocking any of those artists out there that rap about it, that’s them, it’s what they know and I support it. But I can’t cap that to catch a wave or make a fan. I was raised around real gangsters, and I was brought up as a gentleman. In my line of business, those lyrics are for the FEDS and people you don’t need knowing your business, and besides, I want to rap about me, life, love, memories and occasionally weed. But today’s music scene is like “Sheep,” as long as it’s ignorant and they see someone else liking it they will all run to it. But that’s all the way gravy, it’s a process and the longer the drive, the longer the run will be. I’m quiet, patient and supportive. Hating will get you nowhere.

What would you like for the readers to know about you?

I’m human, I can only give it to you how I see it and believe it. I’m old school and really laid back. I was raised a winner and I’ am a man before ANYTHING. My music is me standing in front of a mirror revealing me just as much as its reflecting.

What advice would you give to young musicians in the game?

Enjoy being unknown, because as soon as you become hot, they [record label execs] will be quick to label you with a style, or a sound without fully given you a chance to blossom and be versatile. BE YOURSELF IN YOUR MUSIC because as soon as you lose who you are, your music will become typical. Going unnoticed doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t or won’t make it. Timing is everything, just stay ready, keep working and believe that your days are coming. FUCK THE OPINIONS OF OTHERS. YOU ARE HARDER TO IGNORE WHEN YOU DONT ASK FOR PERMISSION.

What are your plans as a musician for 2018?

Since I am still a new artist I want to make that a strong point of my path to being signed. I plan on building a HUGE catalog of QUALITY MUSIC towards potential radio singles, visuals and eventually put a real album together before the end of 2018. I also plan on making the Freshman XXL list by the summer, having a 1000 youtube subscribers, and at least 2 Hit singles. I want a lot but I’ve learned pace & patience can take you far if you really want it! So I’m deep in the process and enjoying the ups and downs of the learning process to make it in this industry. My son will also be born Sept 12, 2018, so I am really enjoying that next step of my life. I’m excited! He’s gonna be a Jr! Our Little Baby Shiik, well his mom calls him Biscuit, make sure I add that or she liable to punch me. (Laughs) To sum it up really create a wave, and open doors for my family, my team, and I to exceed expectations in life while we can!
