The comforter was bunched around your hips, and Billie was curled into your side, one arm draped over your waist, her face tucked into the crook of your neck.

Her legs tangled with yours, warm and relaxed. Her slow, steady breathing tickled the underside of your jaw, and you felt a little smile tug at your lips. You shifted just slightly, just enough to look down at her. She was still half-asleep, a soft puff of hair stuck to her cheek, and you reached up gently to brush it away.

“Mmm,” she murmured, eyes fluttering open. “Hi.”

“Hi,” you whispered back, your voice still raspy with sleep.

Billie smiled, slow and sweet, pressing a sleepy kiss just beneath your collarbone. “It smells like cinnamon rolls.”

You giggled softly. “My mom probably made some for breakfast. She always does on Easter.”

Billie stretched, arching her back like a cat and letting out a soft groan. “Your bed is so cozy,” she mumbled. “I don’t wanna move.”

“You’re the one who said you wanted to come to church with me,” you teased, nose bumping hers.

Her lips quirked up into a crooked grin. “Of course I did. I’m not missing a single Easter tradition with you. Not even the religious ones. You kissed her then, slow and lazy, before reluctantly slipping out from under the blankets and padding to the bathroom down the hall. Billie followed you a few minutes later, still yawning, her hair a little wild and adorable.

Getting ready together in your small childhood bathroom was cozy chaos. Billie stood behind you at the sink, her arms wrapped around your waist as you brushed your teeth, her chin resting on your shoulder.

“We look cute,” she said through a mouthful of minty foam, grinning at your reflection in the mirror.

You both wore soft spring pastels—her in a pale blue button-up and some comfy jeans that somehow made her look like a Calvin Klein model, and you in a soft yellow dress that your mom had gushed over the second you stepped out of the bedroom and some heels making you slightly taller than Billie. Billie had even convinced you to let her help you with your hair, softly brushing and styling your hair for you while you finished up some makeup.

Church was just as you remembered when you were a kid - sunlight spilling through the stained glass windows, old wooden pews, and a congregation full of familiar faces. You sat near the front with your parents, and Billie stayed close, her arm draped around your shoulders, her thumb brushing soft circles on your upper arm.

She held your hand, her fingers warm and steady in yours. And during the hymns, you shared a hymnal, her voice low and a little shy at first, but soon stronger, blending with yours even when you couldn’t remember for the life of you what the song was supposed to sound like. You stood together as the music filled the room, your hips brushing, your shoulders pressed together.

Your old pastor, a woman you’d known since childhood, caught your eye during the welcome portion of the service and smiled warmly at you both. Billie was instantly swept up in it, greeted with familiar hugs and warm welcomes.

Your four-year-old cousin, Ella, ran up to her and latched onto her leg like a koala. “You’re the one who sings on the radio!” she declared, wide-eyed.

Billie crouched down to her level with a grin. “I do sing on the radio. But I also hide eggs really, really well. Think you can find ‘em?”

Her eyes lit up, and off they went—Ella sprinting ahead while Billie chased after her, pretending to be out of breath, making exaggerated gasps and faces that made her shriek with laughter.

Meanwhile, you scooped up your baby cousin who had waddled over to you, Lily, who had turned one just a few months ago, and was chewing on a purple stuffed bunny ear. Billie came over after a while, gently brushing the baby’s soft curls and taking her into her arms with a quiet coo.

“She’s so tiny,” she whispered, bouncing her gently.

You melted a little at the sight—Billie holding her so carefully, swaying softly, murmuring sweet nothings that made Lily giggle and press her cheek against Billie’s chest.

“You’re gonna be the favorite,” you teased.

“Already am,” she whispered back, stealing a kiss on your temple when no one was watching.

The rest of the day passed in a soft, sun-dappled blur—egg hunts and sticky fingers, jellybeans hidden in little fists, laughter echoing through the house. Your mom cut the Easter Bunny cake, just like every year, and Billie insisted on giving you the piece with the sugar eyes “because you’re the prettiest bunny here.”

She made time to check in with you constantly, brushing your hand as you passed by in the kitchen, pressing a quick kiss behind your ear while you carried plates to the dining room, whispering “you okay, love?” when you were quiet for a moment too long.

You leaned back against her chest, the water swishing gently around you, Billie’s arms looped around your middle.

“That was a lot of people,” she murmured into your hair, laughing softly.

“Yeah,” you sighed. “But… kind of perfect, right?”

“Completely perfect,” she said, her voice low and tender. “You were incredible today. With your cousins, with your family… I love seeing you like that.”

You turned in the water just enough to face her, resting your forehead against hers.

She smiled and kissed the tip of your nose. “I’ll spend every holiday with you, if you’ll have me.”

Absolutely haaates the realization that hits when he can sense by your reaction that was either 1) Not the thing to say, 2) Not the way to say it, or 3) Both. 

(Not so) deep down he thinks you are a bit oversensitive, when really he’s emotionally stunted and has been surrounded by stoicism his entire life that you come off as a snowflake in comparison. 

It’s just if he’s working sometimes he’s still in his Grandmaster headspace. If he sees you’re upset to the point of tears after his remarks he’s caught off guard and either freezes (heh) and just stares or asks why you’re being so emotional. 

Honestly sometimes you wonder if he’s genuinely taken aback or he’s just being petty, how can't he understand the fact he seems complacent with the little time you get to be together? Which, truly, isn’t the case at all. 

Most of your arguments stem from his communication style, or lack thereof, and he doesn’t totally get it. All he knows is he despises seeing you cry and you do see him trying to speak gentler towards you. 

He never gets a temper with you like he does with everyone else, but he can be defensive about his own faults in the relationship. Especially if you talk about your issues with his brothers and they give him crap for it. Sometimes they try to give him advice, which he hates, but he does take in their input later on his own (while grumbling to himself). 

No matter his brash words he always acts soft with you, he can much better express his regret that way, or even a hug if you please if you’re alone together. 

It'd be the only time you’d hear Bi Han mumbling an apology, if that’s what it takes to make you feel better. 

Kuai Liang:

Would usually never argue with you to the point of you crying honestly, not even accidentally.

He’s just too delicate with you and very in-tune with how you’re feeling, if he senses any type of negative reaction he backs off immediately regardless of how he feels. 

Does not think it’s worth it to get into a quarrel with you, even if he thinks you’re clearly in the wrong he just won’t risk it. 

Tomas and Bi Han are always at odds but the one thing they can non-verbally agree on is that Kuai babies you. A lot. Particularly with matters of the Lin Kuei, you will rarely hear about his day at the end of it because he thinks it’s unnecessary for you to know about the tiresome and gruesome aspects of his duties. 

Keeping you in the dark is better than you having to be afraid every time he embarks on a mission, especially if it meant Kuai having to divulge any details of him having to take others’ lives for the sake of the clan. 

That’s the root of most of your arguments, he understands your perspective but you can’t convince him to waver in the way he keeps things from you, unfortunately. Even if you start to cry, he’ll feel really bad inside and will hold you and apologize for your tears, but nothing will change.

Sooner or later you just accept it, and surprisingly, that has him confiding in you overtime, only a bit. 

Tomas Vrbada:

Arguments are rare for him, especially with you. He’s usually very sweet but there are times where Tomas is stressed about Lin Kuei matters that he doesn’t want to bother you with. 

Particularly about his role in the clan in relation to his brothers, you’ll try to build him up and encourage Tomas to assert his importance more, but it doesn’t go anywhere. 

It almost never comes up unless in occasions where you do see him with other Lin Kuei ninjas, or even with just his brothers, and witnessing how differently he’s treated by Bi Han, like he was the runt of the ninja litter. 

Surprisingly is the type to bottle up his emotions, but it’s just so that you don’t have to be burdened by things he’s already accustomed to dealing with on his own. 

It’s when he hears from Kuai Liang that you “ran into” Bi Han to tell him to speak to you in a more decent manner that yes, he admittedly got a little upset that one time. 

Tells you that regardless of how he’s perceived or treated, it doesn’t get to his head as much as you, or even other Lin Kuei, may think. He was once an orphan, he once had nothing at all, and so in comparison, he’s more than content with what he has now. 

His heartfelt but firm lecture with you has you burst into tears, completely catching him off guard that his breath hitches at seeing you fall apart like this. Starts profusely apologizing in a panic.

The type to start crying if you start crying, so you always try not to cry so that he won’t cry but you ended up crying and now he’s crying and AAA-

Tomas can’t help but smile a bit through his tears and lets out a soft chuckle, seeing you care for him so deeply that you’d cry for him. You take brief offense before he apologizes again, and doesn’t mind at all that you’re sniffling at his chest. He holds you in a tight hug as he strokes your head.
