I noticed that "Out to Play Farm and Forest School" activities encompass nature and the resources available in nature. It is seen that children spend most of their time in nature and exploring the natural habitat. It helped children to form a connection with nature. Their activities are inclusive of materials from nature and it also helps children to develop a sense of engagement with nature. From the educator of the school, I came to know that they have different groups in the school, for example, "Wolf den". They used the names from nature which also helps in building a connection with nature. After circle time and story sharing, they will go hiking, this will focus on building a sense of well-being and catalyze their relationship with nature. Another thing I noticed is the garden; they encourage children in gardening. Educators also take part in gardening, this helps children to get involved in nature and they will understand the need of protecting nature. As an educator, the knowledge I got from the field visit will help in developing a curriculum that will focus on enhancing children's connection with nature.
I wonder, how they are going to withstand extreme climatic conditions. For example, if the snow hits hard, how are they going to stay in the tent without any electric heater facility. I remember that they said that they will use wood and will make a fire inside the tent. But my doubt is that will it be sufficient? Another doubt that came to my mind is about the safety of children. When they engage with nature, there is a high possibility to get attacked by insects or bees, so are there any measures that they are using to avoid such situations. I also wondered about their circle time. It is different from what I experienced in other childhood centers, so I would like to explore more about their circle time and the genre of stories that they are opting for in storytime.
It reminds me of the old school system in Indian culture "Gurukulam", where children stay with children in the forest, and they learn, interact, and engage with nature. This interaction with nature helped them to become intellectual and it even paved the way for the development of traditional schools of medicine like "Ayurveda". During the time of my PG studies (Social Work), I visited an NGO called "Chilla" meaning tree branch. The visit to the forest school helped me to recall those good memories.
2, Out to Play Farm and Forest School program supports children's connection to nature. The activities that they conduct in the school help children form a sense of belonging to nature. For example, they conduct story time in the outdoor space, where they incorporate their observations and real-life nature experiences as elements of their story. This helps children to explore nature and elements and mold it appropriately for their stories. In addition to that, the materials that they use in their dramatic play area are loose parts from nature. Children when playing and interacting with these materials, will form a connection to nature. Moreover, they will understand the importance of protecting nature.

For example, when children share their stories by collaborating on their experiences from nature, it will help in developing their imagination and creative thinking skill. Moreover, in "Out to Play" school the activities are more focused on enhancing their holistic development by incorporating nature and natural elements. They help children to build a connection with nature by engaging them in gardening, hiking, and theme parks in the middle of the woods. There are spots where children can go and play with educators and they will engage in activities like drawing, painting, etc. Through these activities, children become able to know more about nature and it will also help in their holistic development.

HISTORY OF YOGA

By walking in balance in the present, the yogi is preparing him/herself for whatever is to come, knowing all the experience and lessons of the past, and so “seeing” clearly all the eventualities of the future, while accepting that the choices laid out in each moments are opportunities for further purification of one’s path and being.
The spiritual tradition of yoga training has been passed down from generation to generation (mostly through the Brahman lineages), from master to disciple, as a well guarded transmittal. It is highly therapeutic, providing an overall sense of relaxation and stimulating healthy blood circulation. A Thai massage helps to improve weak or disrupted organ function, flexibility and joint mobility, and treats stress, tension and anxiety.
Thai massage is slightly different from traditional massage as it works according to the body’s ‘energy lines’. Known as Sen Lines, theorists say there are 72 of these mystical lines running all down and around the body. These lines correspond with the pressure points in Chinese acupuncture theory and the ancient Indian healing system Ayurveda.
The principles of Thai massage: the Sen Lines
Sen lines form the theoretical foundation on which Thai massage is built on. Thai massage theorises that there are invisible energy lines running along the frame of the physical body. These are called Sen Lines and 10 of them, the ‘sib sen’, are particularly important to this massage. The background of this energy line theory goes back to yoga philosophy, which explains why Thai massage involves stretching and yoga positions.
The Sen Lines are thought of as the windows to the body. According to Thai massage theory, they are directly linked to internal parts of the body, from tissues and organs to bodily systems and even emotions. This is where they cross over with acupuncture, acupressure, yoga and even tantric massage. These all work according to energy lines and pressure points as well.
According to Thai massage, illness, whether it’s a physical ailment or a mental state like stress, is said to be caused when energy, known as prana, in the body builds up and causes a blockage. Blockages mean that the Sen Lines cannot efficiently transport energy around the body to rejuvenate the cells. Thai massage works along these lines, helping to break down the blockages and stimulating the flow of energy once more. This helps to restore wellbeing.
Thai massage and Buddhism
Buddhism and medicine tend to intertwine, and this is particularly the case in Thailand as it is 95 per cent Buddhist. In the past, the two sometimes crossed over so often that it was difficult to distinguish one from the other. There are three main principles of traditional Thai medicine: the body, the citta and the energy. There are many practices that existed even before Buddhism was introduced into Thailand, but as the years went on, they became intertwined.

Rooted in Buddhism, Thai massage therapy follows the Four Sublime States of Mind – love, compassion, sympathetic joy and equanimity. Thai massage’s Sen Lines theory can be linked to Buddhism. When the Sen becomes blocked or damaged in any way, you are more likely to fall ill or attract symptoms of illness as energy clogs up in one area. This can represent the build-up of impure thoughts and negative energy referred to in Buddhism. That’s what Thai massage therapists aim to reverse. They aim to resume the efficient flow of prana and maintain good health of the patient’s Sen. When the Sens are free of blockages and undamaged, the patient is as healthy as they can be.
What happens during a Thai massage session?
In the hands of a highly trained therapist, Thai massage is a very individual experience, varying from person to person. Each session is tailored to meet the specific client’s individual needs, so the actual massage techniques may range from a slow, passive, deeply relaxing palm massage to energising deep pressures performed by the elbows and knees. There may be yoga stretches, tractions and twists of varying pressures involved. The mixture of slow rhythms and the firm touches work to create a powerful, dominant healing experience that leaves you in a state of sublime relaxation.
Thai massage is performed on a floor mat so the therapist can freely apply pressure using their elbows, knees as well hands to the client. According to Ayurveda philosophy, sleep is one of three pillars that endow the body with strength, complexion, and healthy growth, which can continue through the full span of life. The Ayurvedic texts also describe the maladies that can result from poor-quality sleep, including but not limited to misery, emaciation, weakness, brain fog, memory loss, and fatigue. It is believed that good quality sleep is essential for the well-being of any individual as the body utilizes the sleep time to repair itself of damage sustained during the waking hours. In this hypercompetitive world, many of us complain of a lack of good quality sleep. We’re a world of unhealthy sleepers. If one were to compare the world statistics of insomnia and poor quality sleep, it is interesting to note that the numbers are nearly similar throughout the world. Within the USA, 30 percent of us have trouble falling asleep (insomnia) and 50 percent can sleep but have trouble maintaining sound/quality sleep due to tension, work, stress and/or emotional upheaval. Nearly 10 million people in the U.S. use prescription sleep aids. Several recent studies have shown that lack of sleep or a discontinuous sleep during the night may be deleterious for the brain, and may trigger dementia and increase the risk of stroke symptoms. The type of sleep and how we are affected by it is of great interest to sleep researchers. Sleep researchers have provided a number of reasons for why we sleep. Sleep helps to maintain a healthy immune system, balance our appetites, makes us less susceptible to degenerative diseases or infections, improves memory, and enhances cognition. Recent research work points to another interesting fact about why we sleep. Published just a week ago, a pair of papers offers evidence for another theory: Ultrastructural evidence for synaptic scaling across the wake/sleep cycle and Homer1a drives homeostatic scaling-down of excitatory synapses during sleep. According to these researchers, sleep helps us to forget some of the things we learn each day. Learning requires new neuronal connections or neuronal branching in our brains, which help neurons to communicate with neighboring neurons quickly and efficiently. Furthermore, these new neuronal branches also store firsthand memories of impressions that we draw in each day through our five senses. However, some of this information is redundant and does not require being stored. For example, you do not need to know what clothes you wore to work on a Thursday couple of weeks ago. Similarly, the people you saw at the airport terminal is not a value for the brain. In the first study Ultrastructural evidence for synaptic scaling across the wake/sleep cycle scientists from the University of Wisconsin-Madison proposed that neuronal branches grow so wildly during the day with all our experiential learning that our neuronal circuits actually get “noisy” (in neuroscience, “noisy” refers to the constant bombardment of electrical activity in neurons that can be measured by sophisticated machines). These scientists further added that when we sleep soundly, the brain discards all the unnecessary noise and consolidates only the relevant signals. In one experiment, scientists grew neurons in a lab dish and fed the neurons with a drug that stimulates the excess noise (that is, growth of extra neuronal branches). Twenty four hours later, the neurons had pared backed some of the branches. In a follow up experiment, the scientists surveyed brain tissue slices from mice that slept soundly and compared them to tissue slices from mice that were forced to keep awake. The neuronal branches in the mice that slept were much smaller and far less “noisy” compared to neuronal branches from mice that were forced to stay awake. The second study Homer1a drives homeostatic scaling-down of excitatory synapses during sleep, led by scientists from Johns Hopkins University, explored the same theory with a different set of experiments. In this case, the researchers created a tiny window through which they could peer into mouse brains. They added a chemical that would light up each time a new neuronal branch developed, suggesting a new learning had triggered electrical activity, resulting in a noise. Looking through the window, they found that the chemical lit up very few times in mice that were asleep, suggesting that the brain was discarding all the extra branches resulting in reduced noise. This suggested that sleep turned on the pruning machinery to pare back the excess neuronal branches. More importantly, this sleep-induced pruning of neurons helped in consolidating memories. Mice that were not allowed to sleep ended up with less pruning of the branches, more neuronal noise, and fuzzy memories. Interestingly, the pruning machinery was very specific; it did not prune the well-established old neuronal connections. To provide an analogy, I am reminded of what the computer folks always advise us when the computer starts functioning erratically. Before thinking of any expensive repairs, the first thing they do is to switch off the computer and reboot it. The reasoning is that the processor discards and clears the hard drive of all of the unnecessary and not-needed information. So the take-home message is that we do not need to harbor all the information that we encounter briefly on a day-day basis, especially the bad, unpleasant, sad, and negative events. Every day we encounter brief negative thoughts/experiences —when we typically experience a brief bout of anger—that do not need to be consolidated. For example, while driving you may have encountered someone who speeded wildly and overtook you without signaling, or maybe your waiter took a long time to bring the lunch order and you got delayed for your next important meeting. These situations need not be stored as it is not helpful—it is a noise that we need to erase by sleeping soundly. If we cannot discard these negative experiences through sound sleep, these disharmonious memories can keep lurking in the brain for a long time, and create the excess noise through the numerous unwanted neuronal branches and erratic electrical activity that will have deleterious effects on the brain. Sleep experts are now busy trying to discover medicines that might precisely target the molecules to induce sleep, ensuring that neuronal branches get properly pruned and all the junk information is purged. However, as yogis we know what works better naturally than medicines: a good sleep. Remember, good sleep is essential for a person’s health and wellbeing and if you are experiencing sleep problems, there is quite a price to pay.
