You had made it to your third coffee of the day. Another americano, vanilla with a small bit of pumpkin behind it. Your blue light glasses reflected your laptop screen with no glare, but the eye strain still getting to you.

The glasses came off, neglected on your keyboard as you rubbed your eyes before staring into the ceiling.

It’s an already long workday in a local coffee shop to kick of the F1 season’s break, made longer by the constant breaks to regress your eyes. To be made even longer once your boyfriend makes his way in. A bounce in his step. Ready for that month of rest, practice, and preparing for a stronger second half of the season.

“I’m bad luck,” you didn’t even look at him before speaking, “aren’t I?”

“What? Where would you get that?”

Your head dropped to the side. He stood much closer than you’d prepared for. Your head landed on his shoulder, as if you had planned it.

Almost on cue, a barista on her way to bring Guanyu’s order stumbled. She had just made it to your table before tripping over her own feet. The coffee in her hand sent flying and hit your boot.

Her wide eyes locked onto yours as she began to apologize. None of the drink had gotten to your clothes, but your socks had gotten wet in the mix.

“It’s fine,” you shot a glance to Guanyu as you pushed yourself from your chair to help the younger woman, “you’d be surprised how often this happens.”

The mess was nothing to clean up. The younger woman was on her way to get the drink remade, and Guanyu took his place back to your side as you sat once again to work on your pictures.

“You just have an effect on people,” he kissed the top of your head.

You rolled your eyes at his shrugging off of your superstition based concerns.

“I mean, you had that effect on me,” he added with a light poke to your nose. You continued on your work. Shot a brief side eye, but still.

He pulled out a seat and sat across from you as a different barista brought his drink out.
