Fake (Tamaki x Reader)
Pairing: Tamaki x Fem!Reader
Someone messaged me with the request: “I was thinking about if one of the boys had a fem friend and they are hanging out one day and some guy won't leave them alone so they act as if the boy is their boyfriend to make the guy go away and after the boy actually really liked being called her bf and they realize the feelings they had for them were not as platonic as they first thought? Always thought this was cute!!" They also gave me the option to do Bakugou or Tamaki, so I went with Tamaki

a/n: Thank you for the request and the kind messages dear! SO sorry this one took a while, I wanted to take the time and do Tamaki properly and I was also generally just burnt out so I really hope I did it justice and you like it!
I meant to finish this last night because I thought I would keep it short, but instead it ended up being 2.2k words?? And I fell asleep writing it (no joke, when I woke up there was a huge line of 3s on my screen) and I finished it during the day today.
"I've always thought cotton candy was a magical type of snack," I comment, happily chomping away at the sugary treat melting in my mouth. "It's the type of thing that makes you feel like a kid again!"
"Mm, I guess so," Tamaki responds, taking another bite of his takoyaki.
"Do you want a bite?"
The boy's indigo eyes barely gaze down and it before he immediately takes the bite for himself. His munching really makes him look childish as the treat is supposed to do. "I was never fond of cotton candy. I guess I just naturally prefer animal treats because of my quirk."
"Yeah, that's understandable." I stare off into the distance, eyeing the giant roller coaster looming in front of us. My heart quickens at the sight, the anticipation building inside me. "Tama, we gotta get on that coaster!"
At the word, his face goes completely blank. "C-Coaster?"
"Come on Tama, please?" I whine. "We've only been to all the carnival games and the mild rides, just one?" I know my poor friend has terrible fear of...everything, but I gotta have my fun too! And I wouldn't want to leave him out from my experiences, nor would I want to leave him alone in this crowded place.
His quivering figure attempts to breath in a sigh. "O-Okay, but you have to hold onto me when we get on, okay? You know how much I hate that h-high up."
I loop an arm around his shoulder, pulling him all-too eagerly towards the coaster. "I'll be right next to you! It won't be that scary, I promise!" I don't know if he believes me, but he keeps in pace with me as I speed-walk over.
Once we get there, we find the line is a good twenty minute wait to get in. My feet tap impatiently in the concrete floor. Tamaki and I are polar opposite friends; I'm the loudmouth while he's more reserved, I take risks while he keeps to the safe route, I chase more thrilling adventures while he'd rather keep to the more tame ones. I don't mind putting his comfort first most of the time, but the one thing I can't give up is being at an amusement park and not going on the coasters. They practically call to me, dangling themselves in front of me while screams entice me with promises of thrill. It's like the architects know how to attract crazies like me.
When I open my mouth to comfort Tamaki - who's staring up at the coaster like he's about to die - the person behind him catches my attention. My lips form into a solid line and I grab my friend's forearm just a hint rougher than I usually do.
The boy snaps out of his reverie quickly. He understands the gesture and leans in. "What's wrong?"
"I think the guy standing behind us has been following us for a while," I whisper low enough so only he can hear. Tamaki's eyes widen and he's about to turn around when I make a face for him to freeze and not look back. "Just act natural, I'll take care of it if he tries something."
Not long after we keep carrying on our conversation, Tamaki takes a call on his phone and the guy finally speaks up. "This ride must be pretty swell if the line's so long for it."
"Yeah, I'm pretty excited for it," I respond. As long as his intentions are still up in the air, I'll be polite to him. No reason to be hostile right off the bat.
Rocking back and forth on his feet, he asks, "Do you come here often?"
I shrug. "Not really, only every once in a while. My work and school keep me busy."
"I see." He pauses for a moment. "So are you too busy for a relationship?"
Oh for fuck's sake. "I'm not in the market for a boyfriend right now, thank you."
The guy scoots just a tiny bit closer to me. "Come on, I'm sure you'd change your mind if you got to know me better. We could just talk for now."
He's persistent. I suppress the urge to roll my eyes into the back of my head. "I don't think that's a good idea." I don't even want to look this guy in the face. Maybe if I show how uninterested I am, he'll get the message and back off. I move up in the line when the people in front of us step forward.
"You won't know until you try." He touches my arm, "Just give me-"
I back my arm away and I glare holes through his skull. "Why are you touching me?"
"You just weren't looking, I thought it was pretty rude," he shrugs.
I'm almost appalled by how innocent he thinks he is. How is that okay? "We just met two seconds ago, you have no right to touch me at all."
The guy lets out a dry laugh. "I don't know why you're being so uptight and closed off."
Bitch, did you just call me 'uptight'??!! I'm about to punch this guy right up to the front of the line.
"H-Honey? What's wrong?"
My head whips around a full 180 degrees to Tamaki, who's finished his call and his eyes are shifting between me and the stranger. "I-Is he bothering you?"
My stomach does a flip recalling the term of endearment he used earlier. Thankfully, I know what he's trying to do. "Yeah, babe. This guy won't leave me alone." I shift over towards my friend and grasp his arm. If we're gonna play this, we're gonna play it right.
The strange guy analyzes the two of us, shifting his eyes back and forth. "This guy is your boyfriend?" He's clearly unconvinced.
"Yeah, you got a problem?" I cock an eyebrow, slightly stepping up to assert my dominance.
After a few more awkward seconds, the guy snickers. "You're dating this guy? You're barely touching him and he's shaking like a little bitch."
The fury shoots right through me. No one calls my Tamaki a little bitch and gets away with it. I'm aboutta end this man's whole life-
Tamaki places a calming hand on my own before I can fully explode on him. "I-It's okay, sweetie, it doesn't hurt me."
The term immediately washes me over with warmth that cools down my hot anger. Not to mention my heart's beating a little faster at this affectionate contact.
The moment breaks when the idiot in front of us laughs again. "You guys can't be dating. You don't even look like a couple."
"We don't have to be all over each other making out to look like a couple," I roll my eyes. I've had just about enough of this guy. "Some of us can keep it in our pants, you know."
"Yeah, but you guys haven't done anything couple-y."
I snort. What an idiot. "First of all, thanks for admitting you're a stalker who's been watching us. Second of all, we shared snacks earlier, I'm sure you must have caught us."
"Big whoop, that's nothing!" An evil smirk spreads across his face. "Why don't you two kiss, right here and now? Prove me wrong."
The rogue thought of kissing Tamaki enters my mind like a bullet and my heart skips a beat. I shake myself out of that. "We don't need to take orders from someone like you. You probably get off to that because you're so lonely, don't you?"
"No need to take it that far, sweetie-"
That's the last straw. Before I can do anything, Tamaki's wraps a tentacle around the guy's body, lifting him up and constricting his movement temporarily. His gaze is blank and he nods for me to go ahead with my confrontation. We make a pretty good team. I turn back to the guy, pinning him with my deadliest glare. "You've crossed so many lines today, Mr. Harasser. We've both had just about enough of your stupidity. If you don't want us to report you to police for sexual harassment, you'd better run along and stop following us. Or else my boyfriend here will dangle you off the side of this roller coaster, got it?"
One look into mine and Tamaki's eyes removes the color from the guy's face. Knowing Tamaki, he's got his hero face on, and I know first hand how intimidating he can look when he does that. As soon as Tamaki lets him wriggle free, he runs off to the back of the line alone.
"What an ass," I huff, the image of the guy running with his tail between his legs amusing to me. "Some guys just don't know when to quit." I cling onto Tamaki's arm and rest my head on his shoulder. "Good thing you were here to help me get rid of him, hm?"
"Y-Yeah, I guess." His face turns five shades redder.
It feels weird to be close to him like this now, even if we've shared our personal space like this many times before. I'm reminded of Tamaki calling me "honey" earlier, sending a fresh set o f shivers through me. I never knew I needed to hear that from him before. Tamaki's always been a great friend and we've become so close. I never realized just how close we've gotten.
"Y-You know," he scratches his ear with his free hand, "I'm kind of...glad I came with you today. I don't think I'd like it if someone else was with you to act as your fake boyfriend..."
Oh. That's a pretty bold and straightforward statement, and it's coming from Tamaki of all people. The implication finally hits me at once and my own face heats up. "You mean-"
Tamaki grabs my arm suddenly and starts shaking even more violently than normal. We'd made it to almost the front of the line, almost about to get into the car. "I-I-If I s-survive this," he gulps, "I'll finish. B-But you have to h-hold onto me like you promised!"
I knit our fingers together, the rush of both getting on the coaster and hearing what he has to say mixing together, even I can't help shaking slightly in anticipation. I don't let go of his hand as we get on and secure ourselves in. His eyes are screwed shut as we're slowly pulled to the top of the hill. I squeeze tighter on his hand. "You can do this Tamaki, I'm right here."
He lets out a cute little whine when the car was pulled just enough to the front for us to look down at the impending fall.
"Just scream and let it all out!"
The coaster finally pushes forward and my stomach lurches. Tamaki lets out the loudest scream out of everyone on the ride with us. The rush is intense, our bodies flinging and the wind gusting against us. I start screaming myself out of pure pleasure, still grasped on his hand that's squeezing the blood out of mine. Even as we pull into the start again and we're unlocked, Tamaki's eyes are sealed shut.
"Tama, it's over, open your eyes now," I giggle.
"I-I'm too dizzy."
I help steady him to get up and out, even wrapping his arm around my shoulder to steady him as we descend the steps away from the ride. I can feel his entire body shaking down to his knees. "How do you feel?"
It takes a few moments of scrambled mumbles before he can say something coherent. "That was scarier than raiding the Shie Hassaikai."
I chuckle again at his nerves. "At least you're a little more guaranteed to live from this. And you survived."
As we finally cross through the exit gate, he sweeps me aside, albeit shakily, pushing our foreheads together. "I did," he breathes before pressing his lips to mine. I hold onto his back and pull him closer, melting into his quivering kiss. My heart beats faster after just calming down from the ride.
Tamaki pulls away from me and pushes his forehead on my shoulder. "Give me a second, my head hurts."
His little whining softens me, threading my hands in his hair to calm him down. "It's okay, baby boy, take a second."
He stiffens at my pet name for him. He lifts his head up and finally gazes at me. "Y-You're pretty great, as a friend and a person. You're the only person I'd want to be a pretend boyfriend for, and I hope I'm the only one you'd do that for me too."
"Why would I want to be fake girlfriend for someone I want to actually date?"
His face turns even more crimson in response to that. "O-Oh. Okay."
"But if we're gonna date, you're gonna have to get used to going on roller coasters with me," I tease him.
And just like that, all that blush drains from his face and he shivers again.
I can't help kissing his cute little nose and wrapping my arms around him. "I'm just playing with you, Tama. But at least every once in a while, just so you can get over your fear. And you'll get a kiss and ice cream afterwards."
The adorable smile on his face threatens to melt my knees into mush. "Okay!"

Ice Skating Your Way Into History
Title: Ice Skating Your Way Into History
Rating: PG
Pairing: Nora Darhk/Ray Palmer aka Darhkatom
Warnings: Minor swearing.
Summary/Notes: Nora and Ray Palmer go to New York City 1996 for a romantic second date. Ray Palmer goes out of his way to insert at least four rom-com in New York City tropes into their trip. Nora Darhk continues her path of redemption.
Day five of 25 days of Darhkatom! Feel free to click the tag on my blog to see the other days! Basically, I will be posted all loosely related (unless stated otherwise) fics for 25 days straight!
Ray made good on his promise. After getting back from the last mission, Ray told her the next day he had a surprise for her. When she had awoken the next morning, a winter coat, a sweater, and jeans were all fabricated for her and had been draped across the end of the bed. She looked off to the side of their bed and saw a pair of ice skates. Nora smiled and found a note from Ray on his pillow.
‘Get dressed and meet me on the jumpship. -Love, Ray’
Nora grinned and immediately got up to get ready. She opted to carry the ice skates and put on other boots instead and walked to the jumpship. She saw him and picked her up her pace a bit. She threw her arms around his neck and kissed him softly.
“Good morning.” She tugged a bit on his bottom lip when she pulled away from the kiss.
Ray smiled and ran his hand through her hair. “Good morning, are you ready?”
“Yes, absolutely, but aren’t we going to get breakfast first?”
“I’m so glad you asked... strap in, Nora Darhk, we’re going back to the 90s.”
Ray plotted the coordinates and set the jumpship on its course.
“We could’ve just used my dad’s time stone.”
“It’s more fun this way!” Ray argued. He got up from the command center as the jumpship rippled through time and sat down next to her. “I hope the ice skates fit. I had Gideon fabricate them using a scan of your feet. So they’re custom made.”
“You made a scan of my feel while I was asleep?”
“No of course not. We had one on file whenever you fabricated your boots.” He nodded eagerly.
Nora shook her head and kissed him gently. She rested her head on his shoulder and he wrapped an arm around her. “You know, this, sitting here like this is all I need to have a good time. You smell good and you’re comfy.”
Ray couldn’t help his grin. “Well, that might be all you need, Nora Darhk, but you said not too long ago you wanted to go ice skating. So here we are.” He saw the timeship had finally entered the universe and retook the controls to land them somewhere and cloaked the jumpship. He offered his hand to her and she took it gladly.
“Oh wait!”
Nora furrowed her brows at him. Ray grabbed one of many bags he had sitting on the jumpship and handed it to her. “What’s this?” She asked.
“You need to change into this first!”
xxxx
Nora felt eyes on her. People were probably rolling their eyes because even in the age before social media a girl would never turn down the opportunity to dress like Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Halfway through changing she almost told Ray to forget it, that she felt ridiculous but he looked so excited so she did it for him.
She hid in an alley while he got their breakfast, too embarrassed to be left alone in public in New York City 1996. He came back with a hot chocolate with whipped cream and caramel drizzle and a croissant for her and a coffee and a croissant for him. They walked down by Tiffany’s and Nora gave him a look. Keep on walking.
That was fine. He would get her more into the spirit of their next activity instead.
xxxx
They returned to the jumpship and Nora changed back into the clothes she originally had on, Ray not providing a change of clothes for this one but instead picked up a picnic basket.
“What is wrong with you, Ray Palmer?” She laughed.
“It hasn’t snowed yet, just been really cold so I figured we could have a picnic in Central Park?”
Nora wanted to be mad but instead all she could do was grin.
xxxx
Their picnic was a more filling breakfast, Ray brought scrambled eggs that were still warm, sausage and bacon and buttered toast. He brought orange juice in a thermos to keep it cool and they shared it. Once they finished they packed it up but remained sitting on the blanket he had brought, under the tree, in each other’s arms. Nora laid her head on Ray’s chest and sighed happily.
Ray played with her hair, slightly wishing the tiara she was wearing earlier was still in it when he heard her sigh.
“What’s up?”
“Nothing, just happy.”
“Me too.” He smiled.
They returned to the jumpship and jumped to the same day but at nightfall so they could go ice skating. Finally. Nora had been thinking about this all day.
Ray couldn’t wait. He wasn’t sure if Nora could ice skate but she had wanted to do this. So he wanted to do this for her.
Once they got on the ice, Nora glided with ease and Ray could not stop staring. His queen skating around the ice as if she’d done it just yesterday. She did a lap and came back over to him and raised a brow at his confusion.
“What?”
“I... didn’t... I didn’t know you knew how to ice skate,” he sputtered out.
“I’m using magic to keep my balance.” She winked. “Also my parents would take my every winter when I was a kid. It was actually a lot of fun, the three of us, and I eventually could skate circles around my dad.” She smiled sadly at the memory. She never knew how much to share when it was a positive memory involving a man that tried to kill Ray and his friends for so long and eventually starting using her to do the same.
Ray placed his hand in hers. “That’s awesome. I’m glad you went ice skating as a kid. My mom would take my brother and me every winter too.” They began to skate at a slower pace so they could talk.
“How old would you be right now?” Nora asked.
“I was born in ‘81, so I’m about fifteen.” He had to do the math for a minute. He looked around and realized how much at fifteen he would’ve loved to take a girl he’d been crushing on here to ice skate and now he was.
Nora laughed quietly. “We should pick up young you and and then go to 2018 and grab young me and make them go on a date. They’d be the same age.”
“That’s not a serious suggestion, is it?”
Nora smacked him playfully. “No. It would probably break time given that by fifteen I was possessed by a demon and that would probably also scare fifteen year old Ray Palmer.”
“Good point. But I do think even at fifteen I would’ve tried to see the best in you.”
“And that’s why you tried to temporarily adopt a dominator baby.” Nora shook her head. “You’ve always seen the best in people so I could definitely see a fifteen year old Ray Palmer trying to see the best in a fifteen year old me.”
Nora was about to lean in and kiss Ray when someone zoomed past them and made her lose her balance slightly. A smug teenager who probably played ice hockey skated by them backwards and Nora held onto ray so she wouldn’t fall. Once she got her balance she glared at the kid. “Smug little shithead.”
“He reminds me of someone I went to high school with.” Ray chuckled. “Wait I think that is someone I went to school with. Yeah. Johnny Thunder. He plays ice hockey. His parents were stupid rich and took him on a Christmas vacation to New York City. I think he’s fat and alone and balding now if that makes you feel any better.”
Nora chuckled. “A little. It’s a wonder he didn’t go pro at ice hockey with how fast he skates.”
“Yeah... that’s true... I don’t remember.” Ray shrugged and took her hand again. “Shall we?”
Nora nodded and continued to skate with him in a comfortable silence.
They made a couple of laps until they heard a scream and looked to see Johnny standing over a little girl on the ice against the retaining wall.
Nora skated over without thinking about it and crouched down to the unconscious little girl. A woman who was probably her mother was screaming for a doctor and asked if Nora was one. “Sort of.” She muttered more to herself.
Johnny was frantically trying to explain what happened. “I was just skating and she plowed right into me but I was skating too fast so she basically bounced off me and into the retaining wall. I heard a gross noise when she hit it.
Nora felt around to the back of the little girl’s head and felt a big bump and blood from where her skull had probably cracked underneath. She looked up at Ray and he started gesturing for everyone to give them space and when enough people backed away, Nora closed her eyes and focused her energy on the back of the girl’s head. A purple glow emitted from her hand and she felt the bump decrease by the second and the bone repair itself under her fingers as well as the tear in her scalp.
Nora opened her eyes to see the little girl come to she removed her hand and the little girl sat up and rubbed the back of her head. The little girl looked for her mother and put her arms out. “Mommy! What happened?”
“You bumped into someone but this nice lady saved your life. I’m not sure how but she did.”
Nora stood and the tried to not look embarrassed. “I’m just glad she’s okay.”
“Thank you, whoever you are, thank you.” The woman was crying happy tears at getting her daughter back and made her way to her husband off the ice.
Nora found Ray and he took her hands. “You were amazing! You saved that little girl’s life!”
“I don’t know about amazing, Ray, but I just wanted to help. Before I knew what was happening I was crouching in front of that little girl and healing her.”
“That’s what makes you amazing. You helped without a second thought.”
Nora blushed. “Thanks... hey, where’s Johnny?”
“I told him what happened was an accident and he just had to be more considerate of others from now on. He looked spooked enough to take me seriously.”
“Well, I suppose you did good today too.” She said and wrapped her arms around his waist. “I’m freezing. Let’s get hot chocolate and go home.”
Ray nodded and made their way towards the exit.
xxxx
When they returned they found everyone in the com center and Ray took off his scarf and gave everyone a look. “What’s going on?”
“Nothing, we just wanted to see how long you guys would be out.” The group began to disperse and Mick slipped Ray a condom on his way out of the room. Ray shoved it in his pocket and wiped his hands on his pants like it was a disease he had just touched and looked at Nora.
“I don’t like how invested they are.”
“It’s sweet, I’m sure our parents would’ve done the same if it had been 15 year old us on a date.” She wrapped her arms around his middle and leaned up to kiss him.
Ray pulled back when a sudden realization hit him.
“What?”
“I know why Johnny Thunder ended up fat and bald.”
“Poor hygiene?”
“No... that little girl died. She ended up with a brain bleed after being taken to the hospital. He never wanted to skate again, he felt too much guilt and started drinking.”
“What?” Nora’s eyes went wide. She hadn’t realize saving that little girl made such an impact on history.
“Gideon, bring up any result on Johnny Thunder in 2018.”
“You are correct in your assumption that Miss Darhk saving that girl’s life is what changed his life for the better. Johnny Thunder is a professional hockey player for the Nashville Predators. He continued to play ice hockey after that night in New York City and has been playing for the Predators for the last three years.”
“He got to go to a Stanley Cup then!”
“A what?” Nora asked.
“A really important game in hockey. I only know about it because our high school tweeted about an alum... oh man history is starting to cement this is so cool.”
Nora laughed. “I think your little speech to him about being more considerate to others probably helped too. But I’m glad we made more than one person’s life better tonight.”
"You always make my night better, so it was good to pay it forward.” Ray pulled her in for a soft kiss.
“Yeah. It feels really good.”

May shares our delusions. They are unknown, a zombie, and a rescue. While they might be resilient, sometimes they get vicious. They are a sub/switch in bed, and homosexual. They are into biting and body modification and want a dom/switch partner
No, ‘May’ isn’t his full name, but he hates Mayven so he’s stuck with the shortened version since he was a kid. Doesn’t care if it’s feminine...his full name is just really awful. Only his cousin Ber knows his full name.
Life never did him many favors, May is used to struggling and fighting for everything, not much has changed after his death. His surface changes to suit what he needs; he’ll play the sad puppy if it gets him what he wants, or he’ll bristle and growl if he needs to. After a lifetime of practicing how to read what people want? He’s gotten really damn good at playing roles. What’s actually under there is a lot of complication; he’s loyal, he’s affectionate, he’s that uncertain guy who had to stop believing there were limits to what he was willing to do just to get by. Maybe he did a lot of it to himself, maybe he made the wrong choices, but what does that change? Always on that thin edge, one step from breaking and losing his grasp on humanity; May has a lot of issues to work out.
May hates zombie movies, pop culture and anything that paints up the idea of zombies as brainless monsters. He takes it personally insulting, actually, and practically a slight against his species that these things exist. True, he has no idea if there are other zombies around but surely there have to be; he figures werewolves and vampires get a little irritated at times too but even those guys have it better than zombies.
Being already dead, May can’t die in the normal sense. He can be destroyed via means one would expect; massive brain trauma, fire, entire dismemberment, but he doesn’t age or change with time. He does change depending on how strained his body is though, the less access he has to the type of fresh flesh and blood he needs the more it causes his body to break down. Black circles under his eyes, colder skin, stiffer joints and bruising are all signs of first stage weakness, after that the sluggish flow of blood in his body mostly ebbs to a crawl, meaning his senses are weaker, his perception of the world becomes more skewed and it all goes more and more downhill from there.
Part of being a zombie means some issues with your body; May’s right eye falls out...often. The nerve was severed years ago and rather than lose the organ entirely he made a deal with a witch to have it enchanted. Now the eye is still functional even if outside of his skull, meaning that he can see things around the eye itself, which is the main reason he tends to close his eyelid on that side when he can’t find the damn thing because the dual vision is confusing as hell at times.
Depending on how strong his body is, how recently he’s been able to eat, May doesn’t always feel as much so far as pain. His nerves dull somewhat and he feels far less surface pain when his body is strained, to the point it’s only a dull hum at his skin. Usually by this point he’s so hungry he’s distracted by his stomach and head aching intensely. Yes, he can take a lot of damage, yes he can handle things that would kill normal people, no..it doesn’t matter if his body is damaged. He can heal wounds if he feeds, basically he his body absorbs raw flesh and blood and uses it like supernatural energy. If he’s too weak for that...he’ll staple, glue or otherwise temporarily fix wounds until he can feed again.
Along those same lines, May has no need for normal food. His digestive system is entirely dead; he only gains the energy he needs to heal, retain mental clarity, and otherwise function from flesh and blood. While it’s possible for him to gain some of what he needs from already dead sources like corpses, the fresh variety works so much better. Human, or at least supernatural creatures with human-level awareness, also satisfy his hunger in ways that animals cannot. There is a reasoning for this May himself doesn’t yet know, he’s never questioned it so much as just accepted it. He likes it anyway, it’s incredibly satisfying when he can overindulge that hunger.
And since he is always hungry, always feels that pang of starvation, he offsets it with eating other food. Raw sugar does effect him, other raw or unprocessed food can grant him some energy, but for the most part he just eats excessively and his stomach forces him to purge it all later.
Hunger is May’s biggest weakness; it controls him at times and when it gets too intense he goes far more animalistic and flat out desperate to the point of doing whatever he has to. He’s learned to be very careful to keep it in check, but being dumped in a town where he’s expected to fit in? He’s not letting anybody know just how horrible that hunger is all the time and how desperate he is to calm it. Somehow...he doesn’t see the townsfolk too eager to let him hang around if they knew he’s got a strong taste for things most people consider off the menu. Any Sponsor that gets stuck with him is probably going to see the extent of his needs though, so good luck with that.
May was the endearing age of fifteen when he struck out with his cousin and left home for good. His parents didn’t think much of him anyway, he held no actual ability for magic the way the rest of the family did and they had more important business to attend to. Being brokers of potions, spells and other magical oddities they had far less time for the one child out of their brood of four who showed no promise of power. May eventually got tired of falling to the wayside and being handed off to various relatives to look after when spell-casting back home was too dangerous for him to be around. Hearing that Berwyn, one of the only people he gave a damn about in the family in the first place, had been disowned was the last straw. May didn’t need any of that drama anymore, it was easy to leave.
Him and Ber were close, as close as cousins could be really; just like himself there had always been reasons Ber’s side of the family was at odds with him. May had a kindred spirit and despite being the younger of the two, he has always been viciously protective of his soft-spoken cousin. While the world taught Ber how to hide May learned to bare his teeth. So it was no surprise that he managed himself a way to Wales to retrieve Ber after hearing he’d been kicked out and brought the both of them back to his old haunting grounds around London. Nieve child that he was in those days, May thought there was no way they wouldn’t survive so long as the stuck together. But the world was a cruel place, that was apparent early on.
Between trying to balance his next scheme to keep them fed, using his apparently natural talent for manipulation, and attempting to shelter Ber from too much of the cold reality of life, May had a lot on his thin shoulders. Necessity became the backdrop to his life, desperation wasn’t a word he would admit but one he felt far too often. He took it in stride, refusing the possibility that he was in over his head as he crafted con after con, sank deeper in his own growing problems with addiction as a way to cope. It was almost too good to be true when Ber found people who wanted to help them. An end to exhausting days and questionable choices seemed too good to be true. It was, but that didn’t become clear until after the two of them were in far too deep.
The thing about cults is they’re good at brainwashing people. May was too stubborn to fall for it, too bitter towards the people around him suddenly wanting to make Ber feel too comfortable, too safe, trying to separate the two of them somewhat; he didn’t buy into the lies. But the fact was they were safe from the world outside, existence was so much easier. May didn’t like it much, everything still hit a raw nerve, but he learned to stomach it. As time passed he went a little numb, of course that could have been mostly because they were happy to field his drug habit if it kept him from causing trouble.
And then the ugliness of the situation finally reared its’ head, as cults tend to do. Sacrificial rituals to the Gods for the sake of immortality. Appeasing the higher powers and the normal nonsense. May found himself on the wrong side of the knife, barely remembers much at all but does recall a murmuring in his mind somewhere between the thin strands of life snapping, a voice different than any he had known before, and the agonizing shock of returning to the living world without those shackles of truly being alive. Misery. Pure and simple misery.
For their part the entire cult was equally shocked by his resurrection, that wasn’t something they planned but it made him instantly important. Not that May cared, he was in no state to even know what was happening around him. He knew, vaguely, that Ber was still around, until he wasn’t, that everyone kept trying to unravel the magic that had turned him into what he was, but they couldn’t, and that gradually the world came back into focus. The focus was entirely skewed and messy but at least he could recall his own name after months of his brain attempting to adjust, so that was something.
The rest was constant motion, one place to another, studied and scrutinized until May had had enough of being looked at like some strange science experiment. He made a mess in leaving but they shouldn’t have tried to stop him, they knew better than to test the idea that he might lash out. And bloodshed was just a part of existence for him anymore. Unfortunately so was being overwhelmed; the better part of a year passed with May wandering from place to place, person to person, bolting whenever he hit that feral state again. Over time he came back to himself, mostly, enough to learn how to hide some of this less...favorable nature in order to survive.

The Princess Comes to Earth
The Princess Comes to Earth
This is it! Star thought as she walked towards the throne room, flanked on either side by guards. It was her 14th birthday, and as per tradition, today was the day she would receive the family’s wand, a very powerful artifact. As she entered the room, the guards on either side of the aisle stood to attention her guards followed her, stopping at the bottom of the steps before the thrones of the king and queen. Star slowly walked up the steps toward her parents who were both standing in front of their thrones and smiling reassuringly toward her. Once she reached the top, her mother spoke. “Star Butterfly, do you promise to keep the wand safe from those who would use it for personal gain, as well as yourself.”
“I do,” Star replied.
“Then I, Moon Butterfly, Queen of Mewni, relinquish the wand into your care.” The queen handed her the wand and a bright light enveloped it as it changed, which didn’t phase Star at all, as she knew this would happen. After the light faded, her mother’s wand was gone, and in its place was Star’s. It was a light purple rod, topped with a sphere of the same color, though blue in the middle with wings on either side, and in the very center was a star shaped crystal. Fitting. Star thought. She turned around and held the wand high above her head and the guards all knelt before her. Her parents stood beside her and her mother spoke. “All hail, Star Butterfly. Future Queen of-”
Suddenly the doors burst opened, and a group of monsters entered the room.“Not so fast, Princess!” a voice said as a small bird-like creature emerged from the crowd, wearing a green cloak and a skull on his head almost like a crown.
“Ludo! How did you get in here?” Queen Butterfly asked.
“I have my ways,” Ludo smirked and turned to his forces. “NOW BRING ME THAT WAND!”
Queen Butterfly jumped in front of her family and dropped into a fighting stance, almost reflexively reaching to grab her wand from her belt, only to find it wasn’t there. She was almost trampled until she gave a hard uppercut to the first monster, causing the others to fall down like dominoes. She turned to her husband and daughter, “Go, I’ll hold them off.”
“Mom?”
The king grabbed his daughter’s arm. “We need to leave.” “But-”
“There’s no time.” The king pulled his daughter’s arm as they fled. Star, still looking back, saw her mother flash a reassuring smile before she was dog piled by monsters.
They kept running until they reached the king’s study and barricaded the door.
“You’re mother should be back in about five minutes, but just in case, we need to get you out of here, at least temporarily,” the king said. He started grabbing things from his desk and threw them into a bag handed it to Star.
“Take these.”
“What are they?” She reached into the bag, pulled one of the objects out and examined it. It was a small card with a picture of her on it and said in a strange language, Echo Creek Academy.
“You’re mother and I were going to send you to a safer dimension so you could practice your magic in peace. We’ve already made all the proper arrangements and were going to send you tomorrow, but the attack expedited matters. You should have a map of the town, your school ID, and the address of where you’ll be staying. I’ve already met the family, the Diaz's and they’re quite nice.” He grabbed his dimensional scissors cut open a portal that was a bright blue.
“Now hurry!”
Star was about to step into the portal and looked back at her father for what could possibly be the last time. “Goodbye, dad.”
“Goodbye, Star.”
“Goodbye, Mewni.” Star sighed as she stepped through the portal.
When she was through she was outside of a large building. There was a sign in front that read, in the same language as the card, “Echo Creek Academy: Home of the Awesome Opossums” with a statue of a strange creature next to it.
“This appears to be the right place.” Star sighed and walked in.
She started wandering aimlessly around the hallways until she came across a short balding man with glasses and went up to him. “Pardon me sir, but I was wondering if you could point me in the direction of the headmaster’s office?”
The man laughed. “ That would be me, and it’s actually principal. Principal Skeeves. You must be our new exchange student. Comet, was it?”
“Star, actually.”
“Oh, sorry, I get names confused sometimes. We weren’t expecting you until tomorrow, but it’s fine. Are your parents with you, by any chance?”
“No, something came up. That’s why I came early like I did.”
“It’s okay, things happen when you're royalty. Well, Star, follow me to my office and I’ll help you get situated.”
As they walked towards the office, the bell rang and students started filling the halls. One, in a red hoodie, started spray painting something on the side of a wall.
“Marco Diaz! Come with me to my office immediately!”
Diaz?! That meant… Star thought.
The boy let out a moan in protest. “Ffffffffffine.” He turns around and Star can see his face. He clearly hadn't shaven in a while, and had a bandage on the right side of his face. His hair was all sticking up in the front. Then Star sees his eyes. They were like pools of dark chocolate, and just as bitter, with eyeliner around them. Star didn't particularly like chocolate, especially dark, but there was something odd about this boy.
Marco turned around, caught in the act, yet again, and saw what looked like an angel. She had long soft looking blonde hair that went down to her knees, and a dress like one princesses wore. She had hearts on her cheeks for some reason, and a headband with bows in it. Then Marco saw her eyes. Bright baby blue, and just as innocent. Marco hated innocence, and princesses, and angels, and blue, for that matter, he was more into red, but there was something off about this girl.
As they walked the all too familiar route, the girl turned to him and held out her hand.
“I’m Star Butterfly. I’m the new exchange student.”
Exchange student?! That meant....
Marco scoffed. “What kind of name is that?”
“A royal one. What kind of name is Diaz?”
“A common one.” So she is a princess. Marco thought.
Oh thank goodness. Star thought.
They reached the principal’s office and went inside.
“Well,” Skeeves began, “This is actually pretty convenient, I was going to have our best student show you around but, unfortunately, Mr. Greeson is home sick with food poisoning.” He glared at Marco. “So it looks like Mr. Diaz here is going to have to show you around instead.”
“What?! I did not agree to this!” Marco retorted.
“Well, once you're done you can go home, seeing as how you're now suspended for vandalism.”
“Ugh! Fine! Let's go, Your Worshipfulness.”
“It’s ’Your Highness’, thank you very much.” the princess replied as they walked out.
“And right there's the gym, where my favorite class is.” Marco said as the tour went on.
“You have a whole class period dedicated to physical activity? That's… interesting.”
“What? Are you afraid you’ll break a nail?”
“Quite the contrary, I just thought that it would make more sense for people to do so on there own time.”
“Well, some do, some don't. I always try to get plenty of exercise, myself.” Marco said as he flexed and Star rolled her eyes and smirked.
“Is that so?”
Suddenly there was a flash of light and a strange giant moth creature appeared and let out a deafening shriek.
“Stand back, princess.” Marco said, dropping into a fighting stance ready to whoop some rear, but the creature simply flew away.
“What was that?”
“What? Are you telling me that your daily workout regiment doesn’t involve fighting monsters?” Star asked.
“But how did you…?”
“I don’t think you would understand.”
“Tell me.”
“Well, you see, I’m a magical princess from another dimension.”
“Right… And that brings us to the end of our tour. I’m going to go home now and take a nice long cold shower.” Marco turned around and took off running
Star yelled. “Pleasure to make your acquaintance, Mr. Diaz!” Some people are just so rude. She opened the bag and dug through to find the map of the town with the school and the Diaz residence circled on it. “I suppose it’s time to start walking.” And so, Star Butterfly began her journey to her new home.
Marco, instead of going home, knowing he still had a few hours until he had to, decided to hit the mall for a bit to meet up with some friends in the food court. All he had to do to find them was follow the trail of dropped french fries and disgusted girls. When he reached the end, he saw them and walked over to them. “Alfonzo! Ferguson! What’s up?”
One of them, a slightly overweight ginger looked up and smirked. “What took you so long?”
“Sorry, Ferg, I had to play tour guide due to poor old Oskar getting sick.”
“Don’t worry about it. So, you’re suspended tomorrow just like we planned, right?”
“Yeah, but I don’t think my parents will let me leave the house. Remember when we tried this last time?”
“Fair enough, I can always get someone else to do it if you’re too chicken.”
“It’s not just that, Ferg, the person I had to tour around was the new exchange student.”
“So?”
“You know my parents, they always take these kids in, so that means she’ll be settling in tomorrow. And, you’re probably going to think I’m crazy, but, she’s apparently some magic alien princess or something who fights monsters daily.”
“Y’know, you could just say you didn’t want to do it.”
“You know what, we came this far. Let’s do it tonight.” Marco looked at his watch. “Ah shoot, I gotta go. If I’m late again my parents will literally kill me.”
Ferguson handed him a small device. “This should have all you need, let’s plan for around nine?”
“Godspeed, Marco.” the other boy at the table said.
“Thanks Alfonzo.” Marco said as he ran off.
It was almost sunset when Star reached the house that matched the address on her map. It was two stories, but seemed a little small to Star. She got a feeling that she was being watched and looked around. Seeing nothing, she double checked the address, not wanting an awkward encounter, and knocked on the door. It opened with a tall burly man on the other side who looked skeptically at Star. “You know, Halloween isn’t for another couple months.”
“I’m Star Butterfly, the exchange student. Is this the Diaz residence, by any chance?”
The man smiled brightly. “Why, yes it is. Come in, come in. Make yourself at home.”
He ran over to the stairs. “Angie!” Mr. Diaz yelled. “The princess is here!”
“Already? I’ll prepare her room while you stall.” a voice yelled back.
Star made her way over to the living room and sat down on a green couch as Mr. Diaz entered and held out his hand. “Pleasure to finally meet you, Star. We weren’t planning on you arriving so soon. How are you parents?”
“They’re fine. Something came up so they couldn’t be here.”
“That’s a shame, they’re very nice people. So, you’re in our son’s class, right? He’s a little rough around the edges, but he’s a good kid. You’d be a good influence on him.”
“I don’t believe I’ve met him yet.” That doesn’t sound like the Diaz I met.
“Really? Well, he should be home soon. I hope you two become great friends.” Nevermind.
A woman came down the stairs and smiled at Star. “Hi Star. I’m Mrs. Diaz, your room’s already been prepared, but if you’d like, you can wait until Marco gets home and we can get you introduced.”
“That would be lovely, Mrs. Diaz.”
“Great!” Mrs. Diaz said as the door opened. “I think that’s him right now.” The Diaz’s went to the door to greet their son.
“Hey, mom and dad.”
“We have a little surprise for you.” Mr Diaz said.
Marco smirked. “Really? Whatever could it be?”
Mrs. Diaz beamed. “Well, you know how we always take in foreign exchange students.”
Marco frowned. “You didn’t.”
“We sure did! Come here Star.” Star got up and walked towards them. “Star, this is our son Marco. Marco, this is Star Butterfly. She’s a-
“Magical princess from another dimension,” Marco interrupted. “Yeah, I know. I had to show her around school today.”
“Well, I’m glad you two have already met, then you can show her her room.”
Marco started up the stairs. “Let’s go, your highness.”
“Aw, you remembered. How sweet.” Star smirked as she followed Marco up the stairs.
Outside, hiding in a tree, a humanoid frog creature watched what had transpired. He chuckled to himself and pulled out a pair of dimensional scissors. He cut open a portal and stepped through to enter his master’s throne room, his throne facing away from him. He saluted his master and croaked before giving his report. “Ludo, master, I've tracked down Star Butterfly. They've hidden her in the Earth dimension. Unguarded.”
“Excellent. I knew they couldn’t hide that brat from me forever.” Ludo turned around, sitting on top of several pillows, due to not being big enough to sit in his father’s old throne. “Soon the wand shall be mine. And then, the universe. And then… Actually, I think the universe will be plenty.” He then began laughing maniacally.
“And here’s your room.” Marco said as he opened the door to the Star’s room. It was very small and had several large pieces of luggage inside and a bed.
“I think I can work with this.” Star said. She began looking through one of the suitcases and dug out a giant book and flipped through it and stopped on a page. “Here we are. SPARKLE GLITTER BOMB EXPAND!” Suddenly, the wood on the walls turned to stone and what looked like a castle tower grew out of the side of the house.
“Okay, I’m going to let you get situated. I’ll be in my room for the next couple hours. Please, if you value your life, knock.”
When Marco got to his room, he closed the door tightly, turned on his laptop, and plugged in the device Ferguson gave him. It was just about nine. Alright. Let’s do this.
After unpacking all of her things and organizing them, Star looked at the time. It was almost one in the morning. Thank goodness I don’t need to go in. She realized she was hungry and decided to go get a snack, thinking the Diaz’s wouldn’t mind. As she walked past Marco’s room, she noticed a faint glow coming from inside and heard strange noises she believed to be Marco. She knocked on the door and waited for a few seconds. She slowly opened the door and crept in. She could here him muttering while he was almost hunched over a computer, wearing headphones, and she could barely see what was on it, but as she got closer until she was right behind him, she realized what it was and quietly gasped. On the bottom of the screen, in the middle was what looked like some kind of wizard in some weird dungeon. Away from the wizard were two elves and a dwarf all swarming around a giant monster. The characters had names above the, the elves being named Lbow-Greese and Jayco, and the dwarf was Ferg-the-win. As soon as the monster died, she could hear three voices come from the headphones as Marco leaned back and accidentally elbowed her.
“YAH- Wait a minute guys.” Marco said as he took of his headphones and turned around. When he saw Star, his eyes went wide with fear, then he gave her a death glare. “Don’t tell anyone. Got it?” Star simply laughed. “What, that the school’s biggest bad boy is actually a nerd?”
Marco’s face went red and he ran out of the room.
Star grabbed his headset and put it on. “Hello, this is Star, Marco’s new roommate. He just left. I’m going to collect his loot for him and I will be out of here shortly.”
“He’ll probably be at the convenience store down the street, north. You should go talk to him.” a girl said over the headset.
“Thank you. How do you know this?”
“Oh, I know a lot of things about Marco. The name’s Jackie, by the way.”
“Well, thank you, Jackie.” Star got the loot, logged Marco out, turned off his computer, and headed north.
Star reached a small building and, seeing Marco standing out front, approached him. Marco sighed. “Here to make fun of me?”
“Quite the contrary, actually, I’m just worried about you and so is your girlfriend.”
“Who?”
“Jackie, I thought you two were.”
“Naw, she’s just obsessed with me, and though I’m flattered, I don’t really feel the same way. She knows, and is a vital member of my guild, so I keep her around.” Star found that a relief... for some reason. Why?
“Look, I’m sorry about spying on you. I won’t tell anyone about your little secret. Promise. I just can’t leave you like this.”
“Ok, I was actually going to come back in a few minutes anyways. Thanks for… coming.” Marco stopped as he saw something behind Star. It looked like some sort of dark portal from which several monsters emerged, led by a small bird like creature with some weird skull crown.
“Ludo! How did you find me?” Star asked the creature.
“Oh, come on, Princess, we’ve already been through this. I have my ways.” Ludo turned to his henchmen. “You know the drill, boys, get me that wand.
Marco instinctively pushed Star behind him and dropped into a fighting stance. “Stand back, princess.”
“Thank you, but I can take care of myself.” Star said, standing beside Marco, getting into a fighting stance herself. This is not the same girl I met this morning. Marco thought
“I thought you said she was unguarded!” Ludo asked what looked like a giant frog.
“I did not know he was protection.” the frog replied.
The monsters all charged. Marco and Star looked at each other and Star could have sworn she saw Marco give her an actual smile, not a smirk. They looked at the oncoming monsters and took them on.
After an intense battle, thanks to Marco’s boxing skills and Star’s magic, the monsters and narwhals were strewn about the parking lot. Star walked up to Ludo, who was somehow unscathed by the fight and smirked at him, tossing her wand in her hands. “Did you really think that would work?”
Ludo sighed, “It almost did.” He pulled out a pair of dimensional scissors to open a portal and called out to his cronies, “Come on boys, let’s go home.” All of the monsters got up and started walking towards the portal. “This is what happens when you don’t work out!” Ludo complained. “You’re muscles turn to jelly!” The last to enter before Ludo was the giant frog who was still hallucinating, thanks to one of Star’s spells. Ludo then entered the portal, poking his head out. “I’ll get you next time Star Butterfly! Mark my words, I will have my reven-” Ludo was cut off due to the portal closing around his throat, but he eventually squeezed his head through to the other side.
“That was awesome!” Marco shouted and went up and hugged Star. “I was awesome! You were...” Marco stopped himself and backed away, blushing. “You were okay, I guess.”
Star smiled at him. “We do make a fairly formidable team. I suppose I wouldn’t mind having you around.”
Marco smiled back. “Let’s go home then. I make some mean nachos.”
“I’ve never had those before. I suppose it’s time to try some earth cuisine.”
The two laughed and headed home.
