I'm new-ish to writing (i used to write fanfiction when i was like 13. i'm 19 now and write very rarely) but I really wanna do it again.

So this is a list of characters/fandoms I write for as well as some rules for asks. Some things may be missing from this list so if you dont see something on this list, feel free to ask. :))

Do add as much detail as you want to a request and please ALWAYS have at least some sort of prompt, as i'm really not good with coming up with storys on my own yet.

Currently reading: The Summer Hikaru Died (Hikaru ga Shinda Natsu). I am obsessed with this Manga! My 1st Manga experience ever, the best introduction I hadn't thought I was asking for! Like, what kind of Horror is this? What kind of Love is this? Does it look like Anime? Does it look like Realism? Does it make me giddy? Does it make me even more fucking depressed than I already am? Is it so fucked up? It is an enthralling combination of all of these elements to make this singular Art & more! Yoshiki & Hikaru is the Story; surrealistically weird, beautifully raw, & hauntingly wistful is what I can describe them rn.

Currently watching: The Broski Report. It's a Comedic/Informative Podcast-y YouTube Series by Brittany Broski (Kombucha Girl). It's more apt to "listen" to it on Spotify/Apple. Can I actually add my own speculation about how the MCU is only ok with writing explicitly queer characters when the characters in question haven't been well known by the general public for years and years. Like it's easy to go "well what about x ship from x recent marvel media!" But something I've really begun to notice is that those ships almost always consist of characters that have Just been introduced. It's only when the character's been around for a while that the writers will tease you with stuff that can be read as queer and then reel back the second you get invested.

Looking at all the MCU/MCU adjacent characters that are currently confirmed as queer (Agatha, Rio, Phastos and his husband, Loki (by extension, probably Sylvie?), Billy and his boyfriend, Wade and Nico. Unsure if there are more). The majority of these characters were introduced at some point in the last five years, only been in like one or two projects, and were either already explicitly queer upon introduction or weren't shown to be queer until it actually mattered to their stories. The MCU would rather throw in new characters to be their "Look, we have gay people!" cards than actually do something beyond baiting with characters that have been around for a while. Even in the case of Wade and Loki. Wade's queerness is really only used more for jokes than it is for anything interesting about his character (at least in the movies) and Loki has like. A blink and you'll miss it file saying he's genderfluid, doesn't actually get to be genderfluid on screen, just a 2 second clip of that file in the credits of the Loki show.

This is why they'll sort of toy with the idea of pre-existing characters being queer, but not actually commit to it. Wade doesn't actually get to date a man or show genuine romantic interest in a man, but we'll joke about the fact that he likes men. Oh what about movie that was all about Wade and another man being in love? The one where they weren't actually in love, they just made a lot of jokes about the idea of them being in love or fucking each other and then they end the movie implying Wade's gonna get back together with his ex girlfriend who broke up with him instead of letting both of them move on, still being friends while happiness in others? That one? Yeah. It's why they'll dangle a paper saying "Loki's genderfluid by the way!" in your face and then spend that entire show going "hey isn't a GIRL VERSION of us existing such a difficult thing to believe?? Doesn't that seem impossible??" Hell I'd argue that's why the writers of TFATWS stuck Bucky and Sam in a literal couples counseling session and then turned around and had Bucky fall in love with a woman after knowing her for like two seconds (also lovely that they couldn't let Sam's sister fully blossom as a character before doing that). I don't entirely believe they didn't know what they were doing there. And of course, it's why the writers of YFNSM will sort of hint and tease at the idea of Harry and Peter becoming a couple, but the chances of them committing to that are incredibly slim.

"The MCU is fine with writing queer characters!" Yeah. When they haven't been well known for years, aren't central to the overarching narrative and could be completely ignored if you really wanted to because they're much more obscure compared to the actual 'main characters' of the MCU.

Wdym there's queerbaiting in yfnsm I'm so confused

The “Go get ‘em, tiger.” line is originally MJ’s and is originally definitely intended to be flirty. They are relying on their audience recognizing the line and getting hopeful they’ll actually get a queer ship or even just getting excited there’s fuel to a queer ship to make them money. This is also Disney, meaning the likelihood they actually intend to follow through on it is next to zero, especially with them already hinting towards other things. They’re just stringing people along. If they actually go through with it, which again, they’re relying on people hoping they will, I’ll take it back. But reality is they probably won’t.

This is a sort of queerbaiting Marvel has taken to using a concerning amount as of recently, where they’ll add just enough that people in fandom will take it as queer enough or like it’s just implying it when in reality, they’re just trying to get money out of the pockets of both fandom culture and the sort of people who would hate to see canon queer relationships in superhero media. You can see it in Deadpool and Wolverine and, frankly, most comics that at all reference Deadpool and Spider-Man as a ship. They don’t ever intend to give it to you, they just know it’ll probably be enough to get money out of people.

To add insult to injury, Disney is also in this show using a line from MJ. Along with the fact that using her line essentially makes their bait more credible, it puts a bad taste in my mouth that they’re essentially trampling an iconic female character to prop up their mlm queerbait.

I like, hate to keep being the cynical person here, but there really wasn’t any part of the line that made me excited. It really just made me sort of angry.

What made you want to start writing?

Okay so funny story lol

I didn't consider myself a writer. When I was 7 or 8, I tried writing a kids book but I never finished and I just ended up playing that knock off barbie online game? Anyway, I got to my freshman year of high school (14 y/o) and in that grade, you do a lot of creative writing. I wrote a few contemporary short stories and looking back on them they were kinda lame, but for someone who'd never written.... I mean there was something.

That year, some shit went down during spring break and I got my computer taken away but not my phone because I had to babysit so I needed to be able to contact my mom (she read through some messages where I said I hated her for some reason oof. Side note- I havent said that since. Meanwhile my siblings say it all the time and she never bats an eye.) Anywayyyy. So I got wattpad and started reading fanfiction. One direction fanfiction. And I was hooked. I started my own self insert fic (also hella lame, looking back lol). After that, the next year, I got into PJO and hence percico. I read a fic that was still updating and from Percy's POV. I wanted to write nico's so I messaged if I could do that with the author AMD she said yeah. But then a month or so later she said she didn't have time to continue but if I wanted to I could. So i did. I got a bunch of readers and spent most of of my sophomore and junior year bouncing ideas off my friends. The year after when it was finished, I started Since We Met throughout my junior and half of senior year. The other half I switched to solangelo. (I havent finished it but that one gave me a larger reader pool). I switched to tumblr at some point being a junior in high school and did little drabbles and one shots for various pjo ships. Once I started a pirate solangelo one though, my tumblr started getting way more followers.

From there I've kept writing and now... I'm here lol. I switched to more voltron based writing my freshman year of college.

I guess that's more of how I became a writer. But it kind of matters for the why.

As you can see it started because of shit that went down with me and my mom. I didn't know what to do other than listen to music, read, and write when I got my laptop back. After that, i just had fun creating storylines and realized I really liked it. I used to be really outgoing, but freshman year was so awkward and uncomfortable for me, then sophomore year was painful because my best friend at the time ditched me and I only found solace and distraction in music and books. And I realized, i wanted to do something like that.

I wanted to create something that would help people feel better and give them a reprieve from the real world or painful times. I wanted to captivate people when they needed to get away.

As I kept reading, now with the eyes of a writer, i realized there were a lot of patterns and a lot of stories not being told. I found out there was such a thing as banned books, i started reading them, and i fell in love with them. Because what makes them get banned is what makes them good and it's because they're real and unapologetic. Even Harry Potter which is fantasy has painful reality to it- death, growing up, losing people, growing up leading to more realizations that can cause pain.

I just realized I really wanted to tell the stories that arent always told the ones that dont always have a happy ending or the ones that dont fit together perfectly just because it's part of the genre. I wanted people to know the truth I know. The pain of broken families, the struggle of being Latina, and immigrant, a queer person, a first generation college student, a sexual abuse victim, someone with depression, anxiety, PTSD, etc. (Not all at once, you know it all gets dispersed through characters and plots)

Especially because I got tired of the whole boy meets girl and everything is better and they only care for each other or the x has depression then meets y and now x is cured. Because that's bullshit and it made me feel like shit. I wanted something to relate to and I figured if I wanted that, other people do too. And who better to write what I wanna read than me?

hi everyone!

So, recently I decided to try and interact a little more on tumblr! I’ve had this one for quite a while, but I mostly just liked posts and left it at that. I’d really like to try and meet new people, and hopefully make some new friends, though!

I’m still new at this whole “interacting in tumblr” thing, so I’ll just leave a list of things I like, and if you also like it/post about it, I’ll follow you! I’ll also talk a little about stuff i like from a specific title (like favorite character or ships), how much i’ve watched/played of it, things like that! Feel absolutely free to shoot me a message or something if we share any interests and you want to chat :)

Voltron! i really want more people that i can talk to about this show, help. i ship sheith a lot, but i basically ship anything that has keith, shiro, allura or matt. i also stan keith and shiro individually like there’s no tomorrow.

Kingdom Hearts! i’ve fully played all of the games, except for DDD and Coded, both of which i’m currently playing! Birth By Sleep has been my favorite game so far, and Axel’s been my favorite character since he first appeared, but Riku is a reeeeeally close second place.

Boku no Hero! sooo, i’ve only been watching the anime, but i plan on reading the manga as well eventually! deku is my bby, and bakugo and dabi are my absolute favorites, even though i love basically the entire cast kdsjflskd i do kind of have bakudeku as my favorite ship of sorts, but “multi-shipper” is a huge understatement for my trash ass, so...

One Piece! i’m really not that far along in the anime (i’m like at episode 300 or so), but i do keep up with spoilers so i sort of have a grasp of everything going on in the series. i’m not even gonna try to name a favorite character, it basically changes by the second.

Marvel, all of it! Comics, movies and shows! i’m a diehard loki stan, also lowkey a bucky stan pls don’t give up on me :( comic-wise i really like the x-men comics, but i also read quite a lot of other stuff from time to time. show-wise, my absolute favorites were daredevil and jessica jones.

Persona! i’ve only played P5 so far, but i do plan to eventually play all the of others. i also haven’t exactly finished P5 yet, i’m about halfway through it, but i do love it already! Joker is probably my favorite main protagonist in quite a while. i also have played a lot of SMT games, and love them!

SKAM! i really really love noora and even, and isak is my bby boy aaaa. all of the characters are amazing, tbh, those are just the ones i got most attached to. i do also quite like noorhelm, which might be a somewhat unpopular opinion.

Harry Potter! of course, the fandom that introduced everyone to what fandoms are. i’m a slytherin, and i’m basically the biggest draco malfoy, sirius black and ginny weasley stan around. i highkey ship draco and ginny, sue me (also: drarry).

Percy Jackson! i have a couple of problems with some stuff riordan says, but one way or another, i do still really enjoy the Percy books. I haven’t read Heroes of Olympus, though i might eventually read it. my favorites are nico, thalia and luke.

Disney! And animation films in general! so yeah, i’m one of those people who really really enjoy disney and other animated movies!! i’d love to babble about any movies, especially if it’s stuff like Big Hero 6 or Aladdin, or Disney’s more “less known” stuff like Robin Hood or Treasure Planet or Black Cauldron. i also really really like How To Train Your Dragon, Megamind, Anastasia and lots of other stuff!! also i need to mention i love love lov e Meg

Star Wars! umm, i’m almost scared of jumping into this one, but oh well. so, i really like anakin and his backstory (the idea and concept of it, not necessarily how they were executed in the prequels), and he is one of my favorite characters along with han, leia and luke. i do enjoy the new movies overall, and i like most of the new characters!

Fullmetal Alchemist! this was my favorite anime/manga for a looong time! the only reason it’s not still it is because i currently love a lot of different animes and i am bad at picking favorites. i like both versions of the anime, to be completely honest, but i sort of dislike both endings.

Final Fantasy! it’s the first jrpg series i fell in love with! my favorites have to be VII and X, though from VII, i sort of like Crisis Core more than the core title, mostly because Zack Fair is my favorite character ever created hands down.

Favorite Fanfiction (That I’ve Written)

A Tomco where Star accidentally gives Marco hypothermia and calls upon Tom to keep him warm while she finds a cure.I’m going to link some of my favorite fanfiction - that I’ve written. I’ve decided to link my Top 10 Faves out of a total of 108 fanfiction stories between my Fanfiction.net and Archive of Our Own profiles. I do have some stories that are on both platforms, but there are plenty of stories that are exclusive to either website. Not all of my work on there is perfect, I’ve not always edited my work and I’ve been doing this for 12 years (though I think the oldest work I’ve left posted is from 2011). As I’ve gotten older, the work quality has improved, but that being said - this list is going to be the stories I’m most proud of and felt the happiest with when I was finished writing them.

So I’ll tag the story, include the fandom and the summary below the linked title. These are in no particular order. I will also have a small, bolded explanation why each story has made it onto this list. 1. A Hazard to Myself

(Harry Potter, Post-War)

This song!fic inspired by "Don't Let Me Get Me" by P!NK showcases Draco Malfoy reflecting with and talking to his psychiatrist - because he's not handling life after the war very well. TW: Mentions of alcohol abuse and self-harm, only in passing with absolutely no details of those acts.

This piece is one of those stories where the ending line was so powerful to me, and that song meant so much to me growing up, that I can’t ever read it without getting chills. Perhaps it could have been written better with fewer constraints, but the impact of it doesn’t change for me. This story always moves me every time I revisit it.

2. Dear Reader

(Harry Potter, Golden Era)

(5th Year - Assumed/Slight AU) Hermione decides the Hogwarts Library needs a piece of Muggle literature. Even though she doesn't expect anyone to find it, let alone respond to it, she is surprised when it is sent back to her within a couple of days – and with a letter, wouldn't you believe it? {rated based on future chapters}

This was the first wildly popular story I’d done in my fanfiction career. I even entered it into a contest to have it published after reworking it as an original piece. However, I was naive at the time and I didn’t edit it enough to get the votes. Still, it remains one of my favorites because I took something I loved from two different stories and made it my own so much so that it was wildly well received. I will always be proud of what I accomplished with this story.

3. Forever & Always, Clara

(Doctor Who, 12th Doctor)

This piece is a letter written to the Doctor as a means for Clara to say a proper and final farewell to the man who has so radically defined her life.

This was just a personal piece. I didn’t write it for any particular reason other than I was inspired to do so. I loved these characters together and by themselves separately. Losing them on the show was difficult and I wanted a more solid closure. I wrote this entirely for myself but I felt that, despite the distinct lack of popularity, it was still a good piece all together.

4. I Don’t F-cking Care

(Carry On)

This fanfiction depicts the struggles that Simon Snow and Baz Grimm-Pitch experience in their relationship that starts with them being enemies, how their timing is never quite right, and big life changes that force them to reassess what truly matters when it comes to their love for each other. ! Please review disclaimer thoroughly prior to reading this piece to avoid triggers !

Thanks to my good friend @ouranose - I got into the Carry On fandom. I had already read Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell, so it wouldn’t have been long before I got into it on my own, but she jumpstarted the process. It’s been a great time, of course, and one of my comfort fandoms now. What I really enjoyed about this one was that it was dark and imperfect and realistic and true to the blurry nature of their relationship. It’s one of the longest one-shot pieces I’ve ever written, and for that reason alone, on of those stories I’ll never forget. I put a lot of work into it and I think it shows.

5. Library Kisses

(Harry Potter, Golden Era)

This story details the romance of Hermione and Harry after a late night kiss through the Battle of Hogwarts. Hermione, Harry and Ron learn about each other and evolve as couples and friends along the way. Rated T, but may contain some M chapters.

Yikes? I shouldn’t start this by saying ‘yikes’ about the story. I wrote this many years ago, when I was very young (18 years old, just out of high school). I had a child in high school and drew heavily on the experience of being an intelligent woman who made a mistake and incorporated that into this story. It diverts from the canon quite a bit, but with this being the oldest story I’ve written available online, I think it shows that I’ve always had the skill and the drive to pursue writing as career opportunity. I love to do this, and despite my many pitfalls as an 18-year-old writer, this story has 73,368 views anyway. It is still, to this day, my third most popular story on Fanfiction.net and I’m okay with that because we should always be proud of where we started.

6. Little Talks

(Merlin, BBC)

This fic follows Merlin and Morgana from the first day they begin to fall in love until their first day together in the afterlife. Based off of the song by Of Monsters and Men. Rated T For - Brief death scene, suggestive adult themes.

Hands down, this has got to be favorite fanfiction piece that I’ve ever written. I was trying to do a lot with this story, and I think I was successful in most every front, though I wish I had edited it better at the time. It started out as a passion project and ended up being a comfort one. I hated the way Merlin ended and felt that I could write a better story - which wasn’t the first time I had ever felt that way, but the first time I ever executed those emotions to do something. It’s not my most popular piece, having written this towards the end of the Merlin fandom’s lifespan, but it doest rank among the top 10 pieces with the most traffic. I felt very connected to the song, the show, and the outline of this story. It’s also the first piece of fanfiction my husband ever read and felt was done better than the show (which is hard to do because he’s a canon-only-verse kind of guy). I’ll never not love this story.

7. Just One Yesterday

(Supernatural)

I've been hiding from him. I don't even think of him by name. I miss him but now that I'm a monster I don't think I can ever be close to him again. I am so afraid of the consequences of implicating him any further... But I just can't stop being there for him... I need him... {T for moderate violence; regular swearing; major character death}

This is yet another passion piece. I had outlined it during my lunch breaks at work, or when I was waiting for X, Y, or Z to finish loading on the computer. Am I proud to have done this is stolen moments? Not really. But the outcome is an emotional piece that I think really captured how I’ve always felt about the ship (Destiel). The stats for this piece are abysmal, but that means nothing to me because I felt awesome about the story I was telling.

8. In The Summer...

(Percy Jackson, Heroes of Olympus)

The seasons used to mean something very different to Nico, but those days are gone. And he wants Percy Jackson to know that he's moved on.

This is a poem that I wasn’t even meant to write. I had asked a friend to write it (That’s @ouranose again because she’s pretty much the only friend I’ve got). But in the end, she lost the lines she had crafted for it, I think, and it fell off the metaphorical production board. When we started this PJO/HOO series of poems, I took on the task instead because I loved the idea of it so much. I did much better than I expected, having never written anything substantial for PJO/HOO before, and for that reason I’ll always be proud of the way I show the changing of feelings towards someone that you used to love.

9. Make Memories

(Girl Meets World)

Excerpt/Summary: Shawn and Katy decide that Maya should make memories before her senior year of high school. They decide to send her to a camp out of state for six weeks so that she can experience life that is different from the city.

Lucas decides that it's time to do something for himself. After seeing an article about a six week camp out of state he decides to register and take a chance.

Unfortunately, Maya finds herself shacking up with an all-too familiar face after a transcription error by the receptionist of the camp.

“They thought your name was Luna?” Maya questions.

Goodness, where do I even start? After I had my son, I found a book a few years afterward and it was about a pregnant teenager who has to make the decision to have a baby or have an abortion. There’s so much more to the book and I loved reading it, but I drew from that story a bit to craft this Girl Meets World piece that allowed me to really be original more than most any other piece I’ve ever done. It is popular enough for a dead fandom, still getting more views and kudos every week at a slow rate. I was just proud that I could take elements from both of these shows that I loved and craft a romance that was focused on the emotional aspect of loving someone without making it too sexualized.

10. An Untitled Tomco

(Star vs. The Forces of Evil)

A Tomco where Star accidentally gives Marco hypothermia and calls upon Tom to keep him warm while she finds a cure.

I have never watched a single episode of Star vs. The Forces of Evil. Someone made a request for me to write it and I researched the characters and the ship. I wanted to craft this believable story seamlessly, as if I had seen it and knew all there was to know. And, by some miracle, it worked! This is one of the most popular stories on my Archive of Our Own despite not having been there nearly as long as the three others that surpass it’s viewership. I felt that I had done very good work and made the most of the research that I had done to craft this story. It’s one of those experiences that reminded me that I’m more than capable as a writer and that I can do anything when I’ve set myself to it.

10.  Is there a fandom you read fic from but don’t write in?

Oh tons! Glee, Leverage, Stranger Things, Harry Potter, X-Men if it’s related to The New Mutants, sometimes MCU stuff. I’m sure there’s more I’m forgetting. And yes I still read Glee because the w/w fic there, if you weed through the bad, can be incredible.

16. Are their any popular ships in your fandom which you dislike?

Buffy/Spike and Buffy/Angel for Buffy. I don’t like either. 

Bo/Lauren and Bo/Dyson for Lost Girl, because I can SEE potential but Bo should be poly because it’s in her nature to need multiple sexual partners and neither of them seem to get that? They’re both like “I want Bo, no I want Bo, no you take Bo, no YOU take Bo” like just fucking accept that you can BOTH bang Bo like what the hell guys, communicate better. I don’t really ship Bo/Tamsin but at least Tamsin just liked Bo and didn’t make it a BO issue. I’m so glad I didn’t get invested in any romance on this show and watched for the Bo and Kenzi relationship.

Most ships in the MCU because of their fandom.

19. Is there a ship which you wished you could get behind, but you just don’t feel them?

Nate/Sophie, Buffy/Willow, Nico/Karolina from Hulu’s Runaways (i haven’t finished the season tho), Myka/HG, Korra/Asami.

Some of those I don’t even know why, it’s not that I DON’T ship them but I don’t feel that PULL you get, you know? That last one I felt for a few months after the show finished but it didn’t continue, which really saddens me.

Also Q/Eliot in fic. Like, I love them in the show, I LOVE THEM, but fandom has ruined m/m fanfiction for me, and also I get unfair-peeved when I see yet another Queliot fic and all I want is for other characters to get SO MUCH MORE fic. I know I know, it’s unfair! I’m sorry! I’m also working to Be The Change I Want In The World and I’m working on fic about other characters so I’m trying here!

Have I read Riordan books??? As in Rick Riordan?? Because buddy, let me tell you a little secret. I hecking love Riordan! Like Camp Half-Blood is my jam! (I admit I have yet to finish Trials of Apollo and I haven’t read Magnus Chase or The Kane Chronicals but I’m getting there, I got distracted by Will Solace x Nico Di Angelo (Even though Trials of Apollo is pretty much one long fanfiction about them) and Good Omens (Terry Pratchett) But I’m Getting there!) Also It’s got to be Heroes of Olympus because that has so many amazing characters I always feel so much awe, it’s what I want my writing to be like with characters like Nico, Reyna (Bless her), and Leo (although his character development was awful). I just love the diversity and there’s so much mythology about it, it’s fantastic! 

(Also side note (sorry if you don’t care); My friend and I are cosplaying Nico and Will this year. (I’m gonna be Nico.))

Yeah, I’ve read Harry Potter, I can’t give it as much praise as I can give Rick’s books but they’re pretty good nonetheless. I don’t think there’s anyone I know who isn’t. 

Favorite snack food and dinner food/meal? Shit… uh. I actually don’t know. Steak? I’m not really sure. Any sort of food someone bland right now, I might have to respond to this late, if you’d still be interested in a response later.

Analogical is my favorite ship, it’s so relaxed and calm and collected. It’s like a relaxing day at the beach or a cold night in during the storm. It’s calm and soothing, emotions that get reined in and sorted out. It’s just so peaceful, it feels safe.

Okay so that’s already an impossible question. I guess there are two favs I could mention: Ocean Mer (Oceano Mare) - Alessandro Baricco and L’Enchanteur - Barjavel.

I’ve put The City of Mirrors on hold because I am SO NOT READY to finish it... So currently I’m not reading anything. I’m waiting for my uni books to arrive. Next in line should be Another World.

Ron Weasley. Please, do not get me started on why I relate to Ron so much, he is an actual cinnamon who I fell in love with as soon as he were introduced in the first book. I identify with the way he behaves, the way he speaks and the things he experiences, EVERYTHING and I want to wrap him in blankets and love him eternally, yes pls.

Remus John Lupin

Remus, originating from Latin, means Unknown. People always questioned that meaning, should it occur to them, because how could a boy like Remus be so unknown – what was unknown about him? Each and every student in Hogwarts used to know him the way he was, he wasn’t foreign – the smart Gryffindor Prefect, the boy with the book stuck in his nose and a patient temper which didn’t really peak to aggression often. He was considered predictable, a charted territory. But was he really? So many people claimed how much they knew Remus John Lupin when in reality they didn’t. Hell, even he himself didn’t know himself fully. It wasn’t only because of his lycanthropy, though that was a big part of it – how could one know himself when there was a second creature living in him, uncontrollable and separate from his true self? Perhaps if Remus remained unknown it would be safer for everyone.

REASON FOR CHOSEN CHARACTER

Oh my GOD, where do I start? Alright, I chose Remus Lupin because of the many nuances there are to him.  I guess that is the main reason for which I’m fascinated by him because with his lycanthropy condition, his character traits become very much balanced when it comes to flaws and virtues and I think that this is super interesting! Remus Lupin is my definition of a person who has been through TOO much shit from start to end and still remained good, righteous, level-headed. His childhood lasted for about four years before he was slapped to the face with an unbearable curse and for someone to live such a long life only to lose it just at the door of happiness and in a cause so selfless fascinates me to no end.

One of the main reasons I chose Remus for was because of the Marauders. I have always believed that if it weren’t for them, he would not be the same Remus that we see in canon or in my interpretation. As a small child, Remus was very cheerful and very much open to the world around him. His parents gave him enough love and support even if he couldn’t even realize what the world truly was like. In my opinion, Remus was a child who grew so much faster and so much harder than the rest of the children, not only because of the bite, but also because of the psychological trauma settled in his brain if not for eternity. All the monthly pain, torture, depression, weakness; the constant migrations from town to town because it was too hard to keep up with rumors in his native town; all the fear that had settled in his mind, that nobody loved him – it took a toll. So, from this happy child he became a closed person who feared life instead of enjoying it.

Many people helped him – his family, healers, wizards and witches who were willing to help free of cost, alas nothing could ease the pain settled in his heart. When he went to Hogwarts, he believed that despite Dumbeldore’s help he would never be able to have a life. Remus saw the laughing in the common room; the chatter and the happy dancing in the Great Hall; the normal lives everyone led – yet he was a monster stuck in a human body ready to burst out. So, when James, Sirius and later, Peter came around he started forgetting about the entire infection step by step. It took the boy years to overcome this fear of life and in my mind, the Marauders helped him enjoy life rather than fight against it. From the fact that they were so supportive that they became animagi to the incredible plans of keeping his secret a secret – Remus opened his shell and through the course of his Hogwarts experience was able to make the Marauders and his own skills define who he was, not his condition.

I think that with Remus, there is an incredibly complicated arch that we can see in terms of development – he began as a normal half-blood who then got crushed underneath the fists of a predator. Then he continued going down, down, and down, struggling to breathe under all of his childish yet adult emotions and pain until he saw the light in the tunnel and he was able to reach that light and grasp for dear life. In canon, we see that the future takes that light away and smashes it again with ups and downs that lead to his demise. In no way do I think that his life arch is happy; but I do think that it would’ve been worse if it weren’t for the Marauders.

I believe that Remus also has a specific arch when it comes to his development as a person when it comes to my interpretation – he starts off as a happy baby, then progresses downwards to somewhat of an intense depression, and up until the first wizarding war we can see his character opening and becoming more outwards instead of inwards ( maybe not too much, but it still is something ). He started to socialize, he started to see the world not as something he had to protect himself from but something he should celebrate. Then gradually, he loses his friends and he becomes more mature with victims of the war and the atrocities he had to witness – thus leading us to canon Remus who is one of my most favorite figures in the HP verse not because of his despair but because of his painful maturity, one that came with so much losses.

My interpretation of the eighteen years old Remus shows us the character in a light that I think the fandom neglects and overlooks. My Remus is a young adult who believes in the light at the end of the tunnel – because he had grasped it once and he can do it again. The war is cruel and there are victims and he hates it but he is also very active in the movement of the Order of the Phoenix. He is reasonable, levelheaded and not as impulsive as Sirius or James but definitely not reserved, shy and awkward. My Lupin likes to have fun and tries not to make his lycanthropy define him. Despite that, when frustrated he is also aggressive, a trait which I believe comes from the werewolf curse running in his veins but that’s something very rare for him to show. It usually comes in waves of frustration or sadness and an extremely low amount of people are truly able to help him through it. Regardless, he is kind and selfless, an epitome of what a good person should be in such trying times..

That’s why I chose Remus – I want to peak in all these nuances and reasons of why he is who he is.

Remus identifies as a bisexual and uses he/him pronouns. He lost his virginity in the late years of his stay at Hogwarts. Lupin is a hopeless romantic and very much believes in the one true love, if not too much. He doesn’t really do flings and has not ( yet ) experimented with the same gender but knows for a fact he’s attracted to females and males. When it comes to romance he usually takes an initiative after he knows the person well enough and is sure that something might spark from it, going into it with one in mind. Chemistry works for him and anyone who wants a serious relationship with him!

+ Reasonable – based on or using good judgment and therefore fair and practical; Remus has always been the conscience of the Marauders. Usually tackling on the plans and participating in the pranks which didn’t had the potential to kill him, or worse, face him with McGonagall, Lupin always tried to find the reason behind everything and made his decisions based on his good judgement. Unlike the impulsive pranksters among his friends, he often thought for more than just the impact of his actions; he also considered the repercussions. + Strong – Remus was strong, not only physically but also mentally. For fourteen years he has been enduring the transformation from a human to a wolf and those primal instincts kept him fit and in shape. Mentally, Lupin has always shown calmness in frightening or stressful situations, thus showing a certain amount of levelheadedness and calmness. - Aggressive – When confused to no end or extremely sad, Remus tends to outburst. He blames the wolf inside him for that but he would never know if it was going to be the same if it weren’t for the beast. Very few people are able to get him out of his temporary rage, the Marauders being just a few to name, but during these outbursts he didn’t lose his mind entirely. It’s just how his body deals with these particular kinds of emotions – it prefers to scream them out loud instead of keeping them in.

-A FEW HEADCANONS

1. Remus has a small library of leather-bound books in the flat where he lives. The space is small thus only his favorite books stay on the shelves of the wooden holder. Some of his favorite reads are muggle fairy tales and children’s stories. Sometimes, he reads those before going to bed with the intention of perhaps dreaming about them and forgetting about his inner demons.

2. Lupin has a shelf filled with polaroid pictures of him and the Marauders. Some of them feature some of their other friends too but all kinds of adventures were captured on the tiny pieces of photographic material. From their cliff climbs to their campfires and road trips; from his twelfth birthday to his eighteenth; from this one time when they tried to feed Severus Snape a hair loss potion to the time when they popped the loudest fireworks around the castle at two in the morning right before the exam day in fifth grade. His big journal from Hogwarts is also sitting there but hidden behind the rest of the books.

3. When Remus was younger and still in Hogwarts, his boggart was the full moon. When he had faced one in his third year, the creature transformed into a still puddle of water that contained the reflection of the celestial body, his eyes instantly hurting from its sight by instinct. If Lupin was to encounter the creature now, however, he would see the Marauders being taken away from him by different means – perhaps it would be Sirius going back to his family and being turned to one of the Pureblooded supremasist or James being killed or Peter resenting him for who he was – a monster. Ironically, after the First War ends his Boggart becomes true in one way or another. Either way, the Marauders are broken apart and only left a memory, so his biggest fear becomes the puddle of still water containing the reflection of the siren moon.

4.  Remus’ favorites include Pixie Puffs cereal, chocolate, peach juice, history books, the colors brown and dark red, Lupinus flowers ( ironically ). His best classes were Transfiguration and Charms while Potions were his worst nightmare.

5.  Remus’ relationship with the Marauders is the one thing he is most afraid of losing. With each and every one of them he holds a special connection, as a group and as different individuals. James always brightens his day with warmhearted jokes and firey heart, Sirius always motivates him to be who he is despite his lycanthropy. However, Peter Pettigrew was the Marauder Remus felt the closest to. Silent and a bit aloof, Wormtail has always been the quiet listener who would listen to his confused mind and offer back advice. As a whole, the Marauders are so much more than just an ordinary group of friends. They are what keeps him sane ever since their first days together until now – through the pranks, the experiences and their relentless bravery of helping a monster out and fleshing into a human worth living.

6. When his father had taken him to the pets shop at Diagon Alley, Remus really wanted a cat. He had always wanted a ginger one that he could love and take care for. Upon entering the little wooden shop, however, all the cats and kittens started hissing at him in fear or aggression so Remus ended up with a Tawny Owl instead.

7. When Remus was packing for his first year at Hogwarts he tried to keep most of the items reminding him of his old life – one filled with pain, nightmares of wolves and Fenrir Greyback and insomnia – behind. He only kept a leather bracelet which still stands on his right hand gifted to him by his father.

-A FEW POTENTIAL PLOT POINTS

1. I would love to explore the relationship between the Marauders in the heated moments of the boiling war. I think in such trying times people let out their true nature out more often than not and with Remus, who has his instincts peaking during stress, it’d be fun to see how the Marauders help him when he’s confused, sad, troubled or anything in between. I’ve always loved the bond between the four boys and their chemistry is definitely something worth exploring.

2. I want to have Remus open up when it comes to his romantic side. He is not exactly reserved when it comes to that but he doesn’t open up as easily. Even if the Marauders make him feel a little bit less self-conscious because of his lycanthropy, he still is a hopeless romantic who limits himself because he doesn’t want to be disappointed. Very few are the constants in his life and he doesn’t want to hurt others just because of the monster residing in him and the things that come with it.

3. We know that in canon, Remus’ life is quite unfortunate after the First Wizarding War. Two of his best friends are dead ( or so he believes ) and the other has suspicions and bears hatred against him. He is left with no one, including his father who he chooses not to bother with his gloomy attitude. I want to discover and perhaps weave on my own the reasons and the build ups that lead to this future life. I know that this RP is semi-AU but I am still eager to explore these little details and chain reactions.

The answer came to him in an instinct, his mouth opening to say it before he bit his tongue. “Uhm, anything that would prevent Sirius’ biggest fear becoming true – hair loss. I swear, this is literally all he whines about and I’m sick of it already so please, let’s just invent something for that. We could add something extra in it too, like a good scent of motorcycles of leather jacket, I dunno.” He laughed, thinking of the impossible to create cure for lycanthropia. Oh, what would he give to revert this beast inside him. But then he wondered, would his bond with these three boys be as strong as it is now if it weren’t for his condition? Nobody knew, not even Remus himself.

♔ You have to venture deep into the Forbidden Forest one night. Pick one other character and one object (muggle or magical), besides your wand, that you’d want with you:

“For that one, I’ll probably get someone who wouldn’t want to chase after unicorns and gigantic Acromantulas all the time. Peter’s my best option because there is no way in hell that James and Sirius wouldn’t want to have a ride on their back or whatever. You can’t imagine the lengths they’d go to for some adrenaline. I’m telling you, it’s crazy.” He laughed, pursing his lips while thinking of something to take with him besides his wand. “The eleven years old me would take a book or a dozen of Honeydukes cakes. The eighteen years old me would take something to drink because why not?”

♔ What kinds of decisions are the most difficult for you to make?

Remus furrowed his eyebrows, answering in hesitance. “I-” he paused, thinking about it for some good seconds. “I suppose decisions on life and death. You know, if I am in a situation where I have to kill someone or something I would think twice. Thrice, maybe even four times. It might cost me my life but that’s a life there. It’s hard for me to kill.” Remus took a deep breath, not even fathoming what or how many corpses he would’ve left behind if it wasn’t for the Marauders. “It’s stupidly malicious to take a life just because you have a sick fascination of murdering. It’s…” Lupin looked away, clenching his jaw and exhaling softly, “Can we not talk about it, please?”

♔ What is one thing you would never want said about you?

“I guess that I’m careless. Which I don’t see happening anytime soon because, you know, I care too much about too many things.” He smiled faintly, warm eyes weaving a story too untrue. In reality, Remus was most afraid of being called a beast. A monster like Fenrir Greyback, a destroyer of lives. A killer. But oh, how could he voice that? How could he tell people that he was not this animal who lived to kill and hunt when each month he was reminded of this?

A month after Dumbledore’s advice to begin a diary or a journal or whatever I finally got to do it. You know, being in a new school is kind of scary. It’s like the monsters under my bed which are obviously not there but now dad’s not here to… you know, look over me. Anyways, do I introduce myself here? I’m Remus… Remus Lupin and I’m sorted into the cool red house. People here are very… cheerful and I am… well, I’m me. It’s also kind of intimidating here but I think I’ll manage somehow with the help of the… professors around to you know, keep me in track if I start doing something stupid. It’d be a pity to get expelled so fast because of issues with behavior or something like that. What else do I say? Oh, the library is… neat and there are a couple of classmates who seem to be really nice. I doubt they wanna hang around with me too much though. Frankly, I’m scared to initiate anything by myself, really. *the page continues and finishes with random doodles and lines that begin with a thick jet black color to an inkless trail embedded into the page*

1974, February

I have to study but… I’ve got something on my mind which I can’t get out since my last… trip. Usually, the three days after I get back from… home, are the hardest. You know, it’s just that thing inside that makes you… homesick ( not really ) and… anyways, you know the thing I’m talking about, I’m just avoiding eavesdropping here. What I wanted to tell you was that… you see, ever since my childhood, I’ve never seen hope in the form of something. I read a book once, it was fiction but still, it was revolving around the concept of hope and how one could become happier if their heart were filled with it. Yet, never have I ever experienced the feeling of having my heart peaking with hope. Three days ago though, I saw it. I felt it. Those three boys, I swear, are the entire reason why I’m writing these pages here sanely. These pages would’ve been stained with inner thoughts that would never get out, experiences that would never play out if it weren’t for them. They… they give me hope in my trying times and the world isn’t so grey and negative with them in it. I think it’s too late to say that but I think… I think despite all the tragedies in my life, perhaps they are the thing I need to cling onto to survive… all of this.

1976, May

Do you remember that time when I told you I was the one hatching and developing the more dangerous and reckless plans together with Prongs, Padfoot and Wormtail instead of actually participating in them? You know, when I told you that I acted like their… bodyguard ( Sirius, if you ever find, read and laugh at this, I swear I will not talk to you for a month ), protecting them from teachers and stuff? Well, guess what responsible Lupin did today. He became the wanted DEAD student of the castle. So, we have that exam on Transfiguration and I had studied for it last week. All I needed to do was reread my notes and everything went neatly settled into my brain and ready to pour out of it on a list of parchment. However, just as I was preparing to get in bed, Prongs smashed the door of our dorm room, accompanied by Wormtail, which is the biggest surprise if you ask me, carrying fireworks and other explosives in a bag hanging on his shoulder. The moment I saw them I remembered that I felt a wave of regret but ‘one could not just sleep when James Potter was persuading him’. Long story short, the four of us were awake until three A.M. and hiding under the cloak for around two hours to avoid Filch only to fire up everything in the sky around and inside the castle and ruin everyone’s sleep. It was… look, I’d say unresponsible and definitely foolish, immature and nasty towards our friends and… not that big of a friends but it was fun. Maybe it worked nicely against my stress levels? And, you know, other things. Anyways, when one thinks it’s too good to be ruined by something so insignificant, it turns out McGonagall, a person who I very much respect if I may add, found something on the very same floor where the impact had happened. Yes, my wand. My. Damn. Wand.

Conclusion: This is why I don’t do such pranks.

And, P.S., I got lower on the exam than anticipated. Thanks Prongs, I certainly do not owe you one.

P.S. 2: For the first time it was Wormtail who got us out ( or at least tried to ) of this sticky situation and not me. Oh, how the tables have turned.

1977, late November

I… Today was not my proudest day. But sometimes, you see, a person can just have that much of a certain something and just… well, snap? See, you’d think that after seven years of living under a roof with someone, despite the different houses, bullying would stop at a certain point. I listened to Padfoot when these Pureblood kids tried to get on my nerves or tried to crumble me down and I never seemed to execute his advices well enough. They always got to me. They laughed about my barely visible scars and about my books. About my high grades, and Prefect status and the Marauders kept saying it was because they were jealous. So today a boy from Snape’s house, again, bit me with words and actions. He straight up forced my huge Charms essay up in the air and burned it to a crisp. I don’t know what got into me and I don’t know if it’s because of the wolf inside of me ( the word wolf was scratched, invisible under all the ink ) but I… I just punched the guy. I didn’t even flick my wand I just did it. All I saw in that moment was red and do you know when do I usually see red? When the usual thing happens, when I widen my gaze and lose myself. I immediately felt regret after it but Wormtail was fast enough to get me out of there while also carrying threats of whatnot on his back for me. I’m afraid that maybe my other self is taking the best of me and ripping it apart.

PARA SAMPLE TWO ;; inspired by the nightmare event, a piece in which Remus contemplates about his own visions and the inability to help his friends despite his incredible selflessness ( this is how a reply would look like )

It felt like his mind was a big screen with the nightmarish pictures put on a constant loop. It just kept repeating and his head hurt even days after everything had been over. Remus’ scalp hurt from all the hair pulling, throat sore from the screams that were left unheard in his closed flat and his eyes red, accompanied by the dark circles under them. Instead of the simple curtains hanging in front of his window or his white door he saw claws, blood, pine wood trees with pinned bodies on them – the bodies of his friends. Each time another tree was revealed, the body switched – from the Marauders to Lily, to Dorcas or Amos or Marlene and Mary. The visions were disgusting and terrifying, his stomach only churning each time he shot his eyes open and saw that it was over. That the dream was over.

He groaned loudly as he got up from the bed with a slight aching in his neck from all the violent snaps form left to right. The nightmares weren’t leaving his dreams after the horrifying experience and it felt too real even when it was not anymore. Remus hadn’t visited any of his friends for these past seventy-three hours and quite frankly, he didn’t have the strength. A transformation to a werewolf was painful beyond recognition but that nightmare couldn’t even be compared to his monthly pain. They left a deeper scar compared to all of the ones covering his hands and legs – they left a scar on his psyche.

But today was different. It took Remus a total of three minutes to realize what he was doing was wrong. His entire life he’s been a victim trying to live past his tragedy and the very same people who had once helped him and continue to do so were now hurting. Perhaps it was easier for him to look past the pain and leave it for when he was falling into the world of dreams again – but now the roles needed to reverse. He had to help his loved ones.

After fixing himself up to look at least presentable, he decided to do everything step by step. With a gentle pop he arrived at Peter’s doorstep, the door painfully reminding him of the one guarding his own flat – a piece of hardwood that turned into a pine tree form his dreams with a hung corpse on it – but he shook his head and instead knocked on it, mouths opening but words lost. “Wo-” he paused, noticing how voiceless he is from the three days spent in silence, “Wormtail. It’s me.” Remus was laconic, “Moony. Are you-” another crack reminding of a thunder slicing the night sky, “Are you there? Are-… are you alright?”

The door opened silently and Peter’s eyes peeked warily behind it. With a certain tilt of his head, the big lump that had formed in Remus’ chest instantly fell to the ground as his hands helped opening the door and pulled the other boy into a firm hug. No words had to be spoken. Peter wasn’t okay, neither was Remus. But, perhaps now, Lupin said to himself, he could be the hope in Wormtail’s eyes just like his friends were for him back in those faithful and lone school days.
