Sun Burnt: Part 3
Tumblr media
When a legendary hitman Eye Threatens to break both your fucking legs?
They Are Not Joking.
FUCKING OW.
Still! Jokes on HIM! I'm in to that sh-! Wait, no, not the time for memes! Or is it jokes? Irrelevant! I can still fuckin RUN, is the thing. Sucks to SUCK, Sun boy! Us Lightnings are BUILT DIFFERENT!
And I BETTER not hear any snide "yeah I BET they are" from the peanut gallery!
My Flame type ROCKS! I am a TAZER who can put my fist through WALLS. Stand dead center of a road and just? Fuckin TANK a speeding car! Can YOU? Didn't THINK so! Lightning supremacy! One of you fuckers gimme a highfive! HELL YEAH!
But also? Like... I take back EVERYTHING I ever said about the Carcassa.
ALL OF IT.
They are the GEMS of the Mafia. The SHINING HEARTS of raw compassion! Skull-sama's willingness to PERSONALLY piss off The "I AM The Dread God Lesser Deity's Fear" Reborn? An inspiration to us all. I... I would steal for this man. Like? For FREE. Not DIE for him or anything, God no, but? I would steal really REALLY expensive shit for him!
The man's an absolute mad lad. A LEGEND.
I will NEVER forget this... assuming I survive.
Because somehow HE already has my name, face, and multiple alias plastered OUT FOR THE WORLD TO SEE. Ha ha... oh god. Thaaaaat is a bounty. BIG bounty. Lots of zeros. G...gonna die.
My phone chimes.
"You know exactly who this is. Pick up." The screen reads, right before it rings.
HA HA, NOPE!
I stand, well more like shoot to my feet, from my seat on the ground. Quuuuick steps too the blimp windows. Wrench those open. Sim card out! Crush the phone. AND YEET!!! BeGONE DEMOOOON!
We shall NOT be engaging with The Devil today! No Sir!
.....Skull's phone starts ringing.
I whine like a cornered animal. So... this is what a real life horror movie feels like. NEAT. I hate it! I watch, probably shaking, as Skull-sama casually drags out his phone. Glances down at it. Then over his shoulder at me. He doesn't even fully turn his head. Just one Cloud flame purple eye that seems to light up from within.
He's a happy go lucky guy. Cool dude. But like all Clouds? Fucking HATES cages. Being or SEEING other imprisoned. Trapped. Cornered and forced to do something against their will. And as the planet's STRONGEST Cloud?
He's always had exactly zero problems telling Reborn to fuck off to his face. Even when it gets him shot at. Everyone knew that.
"Sempai! Calling the GREAT Skull De Mort just to CHAT~♡? I KNEW you loved me BESTEST!" He PROJECTS into the phone, his speaking cadence shifting.
He'd been gregarious, bombastic even, the whole time I'd been on board. The sort of guy you can't help but want to buy street food with and check out some weird local sight you heard about. The guy that turns an event into a PARTY. A get together into a memory you TREASURE. Larger then life and unashamedly so.
But this? THIS was the SHOWMAN.
And this was the Showman being Obnoxious and MEAN.
Loud, intentionally grating voice. No break in the endless flood of mind numbing chatter that went no where. Bellowing cackling that even the best of speakers would be hard pressed to handle. Standing near machines and windows so the background noise garbled EVERYTHING.
Let no one say Clouds are not PETTY.
"Hmmmmm~? Your WHAT? Sempai! Don't be SILLY! You can't OWN people! That's SLAVERY! It's against~...!" He turned, leaning like a rock star of old against some navigation compartment. Casually examining his nails with a MEAN and wolfish smile on his face. "Waaaaa! Don't be maaad~ Don't be MAAAAAD~!! You know I'd NEVER lie to YOU, Sempai! I'd never DARE! I promise I'll keep a look out, m'kay? What? Don't hang up? Sorry! Can-KRRRRSHK! n't quite KKKKKRRRRRSK! Heeeeear yoooouuuuu~☆!"
Click.
He casually tossed his phone to one of his men. Ignored it even as it rang and rang. With an excited clap of his hand, he hopped up, out of his loose legged splay to stride over. According to him? We should eat! Have I had Burmese food? It's delicious! One of his guys just got "into" the whole cooking thing! So everyone is being supportive!
I can't help but laugh. Everyone politely ignores how wet it is, as Skull-sama throws an arm over my shoulders and drags me from the cockpit.
I know I'm not safe. But for now? Fuck it. Good enough. Maybe Skull-sama knows someplace Reborn might not IMMEDIATELY find me. And who knows? When this all blows over? Maybe I should join up with his crew. Reborn can't be THAT obsessed. Right? It was just the initial harmony high. With no Sky to actually bind us, he'll lose interest.
Behind me... the phone rings.
And rings.
And RINGS.

OT Gang Reacts: Halloween Edition
I'm halfway through writing Darkness Calls part 3, but here's a little something in the meantime for Halloween!
Tumblr media
As a princess who has traveled all over the galaxy, I think Leia would be very familiar with traditions from other cultures, even if she’s only read about them—including Halloween. Although she’s proud of who she is and the role she had in bringing the empire down, dressing up and pretending to be someone else does sometimes appeal to her. It gives her a much-needed break from the weight on her shoulders where she can just let loose, have fun, and not be instantly recognizable. As an avid fashion lover (you can pry this headcanon from my cold, dead hands; she was just busy during the rebellion, okay?), she also loves to really get into all facets of the costume—putting together all the different pieces, buying different accessories, and I can honestly see her really enjoying thrifting for a costume at locally owned places. Although her costume might not be super flashy or extravagant, she’s one of the best dressed ones at the party and again, gets a huge thrill from mingling without the threat of other politicians, leaders, and rich people chasing her down the entire time. She tends to dress as people or professions she admires, but isn’t above matching group costumes with her friends—and the further away the costume is from an intergalactic princess, the better.
With Reader/an OC, she loves matching costumes, but isn’t dead set on it either. Either way, she loves helping you put your own costume together and helping you with hair, makeup, and doesn’t stray far from you during a Halloween party. She loves the chance to just relax and enjoy without others constantly pulling her away from you as if you were just two normal people on a little date, and an afterparty at her place with just the two of you, a scary movie (I could honestly see her being a big horror fan and loving things like Fear Street and American Horror Story), and some of your favorite fall-themed snacks is a must (I firmly believe she’s a bit caramel popcorn fan). I can see her really enjoying haunted houses too, and doing them frequently enough that she usually knows what to expect and isn’t too scared by them. She’s usually the one everyone’s holding on to as she bravely takes her position in front of the pack and immediately bursts into laughter after something scares her.
Tumblr media
Luke, on the other hand, doesn’t have as many experiences with other cultures like his sister. Although he did travel a lot while in the rebellion, he was busy focusing on defeating evil emperors and trying not to die. But he loves learning and is an information sponge, researching different holidays and traditions himself and/or listening to others talk about it. Coming from a desert planet, I think he’d be especially interested and in awe of autumn in general—especially all the colors, cooler weather (even though Mr. Perpetually Cold Desert Boy might need more layers than most), and apple-flavored things. Although he tries to fully embrace Halloween, he’s a little overwhelmed at first and just follows his friends’ lead. Leia in particular is so excited to teach him all about it and he also gets into the aspect of pretending to be someone else with less weight on their shoulders for a night. He’s a big fan of matching costumes because it makes him fade in the crowd even more—which of course means, like Leia, he doesn’t have as many people chasing him down. He always gets a kick out of someone realizing who he is with a start once they get close enough. But I also believe he’s very introverted, so I could see him really enjoying a night in or a smaller gathering with the OT Gang & Co. versus some huge party.
With Reader/an OC, he’s 100% going out of his way to match his costume to yours. Usually, he even lets you pick it out and will sit there with the utmost patience, happy to humor any makeup, hairstyle, or accessories you want to put on him. If you go to a bigger party, like Leia, he’s ecstatic to just be able to stick by your side without other important people competing for his attention. But he loves having much smaller gatherings or even just a night in with you the best. He lives for the cozy sweaters (and excuse to drink hot chocolate) and while he doesn’t mind watching scarier movies with you, he likes the ones that have more of a cozy vibe to them better (think Hocus Pocus, Nightmare Before Christmas, etc.). He loves decorating and doing things like carving pumpkins because after all the chaos and loneliness he’s been through, I firmly believe he really cherishes the little domestic moments with you most. Depending on where he is in his jedi training, he tends to be able to sense things in haunted houses and hayrides coming through the Force and can be a bit hard to scare, but goes anyway because he loves the way you grab and lean into him and see him as a protector (even if the threat isn’t actually real).
Tumblr media
If any sort of partying is involved—especially if there’s alcohol—Han 100% knows about it, so is no stranger to Halloween. Good luck getting him in a costume though. You’d have to pay him a lot to get him to even consider one. He’s pretty much there for the free food and drinks. He tries to act all tough in things like haunted houses, but is actually pretty easy to scare and has had rare occasions his friends won’t let go where he screamed like a little girl—which he of course denies. Although he says he’ll only watch scary movies to humor his friends, he’s surprisingly reactive as the film goes along, yelling at the characters onscreen whenever they act dumb or go somewhere without a weapon. He also tries to pretend he’s above fall drinks, but sometimes sneaks sips of his friends’ beverages when they aren’t looking. In short, he tries to act like he couldn’t give two shits about Halloween, but does tend to secretly enjoy it.
With Reader/an OC, with enough nagging, you might be able to get him into a very low-effort matching costume—but do not even think about putting makeup on him or messing with his hair. He’ll do all the fall/Halloween things with you to make you happy and grumbles the whole time, but you know he’s secretly enjoying it via the excuses he makes. “Well, listen, pumpkin carving requires a sharp knife and I just don’t want ya to lose any of your klutzy fingers,” “hey, there’s some real creeps out there, so I’m just trying to make sure they leave you alone so you can enjoy the party,” “nah, I’m just watching this movie ’cause I’ve got nothing else to do.” The longer you’re with him, the more he softens up and stops grumbling—although you don’t think you’ll ever get him to admit out loud he is having a good time.
Tumblr media
Lando is of course hosting the best Halloween party you’ve ever seen in your life. His place ends up looking like Halloween threw up on it by the time he’s done and every room is covered in props, fake spiderwebs, smoke machines, projectors in the windows, and he’s got every type of fall treat and drink you could think of. His costume is equally extravagant, and his parties are always ones for the books that go into the wee hours of the morning. He loves a good horror movie as well as the cozier ones, and somehow his pumpkin carvings always rival the most acclaimed artists of the decade. Lando does not half-ass anything, holidays and parties included.
With Reader/an OC, he’s so psyched if you’re super into Halloween like he is and he’s ready to do everything: pumpkin patches, mazes, haunted houses, scary movies, etc. He especially loves decorating for Halloween with you and you two frequently go on dates to the Halloween decoration store, coming home with almost all their inventory in tow. He’s always happy to match your costume, but is completely fine if you want to do your own thing as well and insists on buying you the most expensive, high-quality material the holonet has to offer. If you opt for a smaller gathering with just the OT Gang, he’s still decorating to the nines and bringing enough food to feed 100 people, and never hesitates to tell you how amazing of a time he had with you at the end of the night.
Tumblr media
Chewie (platonic) is mainly just along for the ride and down for whatever, but he does not like being spooked. He’s actually been banned from most haunted houses because of the way he roars at the poor actors popping out at him. He’s equally fine with a larger party or a smaller one, but either way, you’re pretty sure he’s responsible for half the snack consumption and he’s not afraid to admit he loves the fall drinks. He’s not really big into wearing costumes (which ones would he even fit into?), but loves looking at everyone else’s and always appreciates the decorations. He’s not the best at carving pumpkins, but he tries and the only design he’s really nailed is the simple, classic one.
Tumblr media
C-3PO and R2-D2 both enjoy the festivities for different reasons. Threepio is soaking in all the information like a sponge, but not the biggest fan of the scarier side of Halloween (“oh, my!”). He loves to marvel at the cozier aspects and is amazed by all the colors—and isn’t afraid to constantly say it, much to the annoyance or amusement of the rest of the gang. Artoo loves all of it, especially the dancing at parties and can regularly be seen in the middle of the dance floor bobbing back and forth on his little legs, but is unfortunately very easily spooked and will speed away with a high-pitched squeal.

Okay, so... hoo boy.
I try to acknowledge every time I make a political post that I cannot tell anyone what to do. I'm one irrelevant person, I'm not a political spearhead nor do I want to be one, I haven't been able to sway anyone about anything, yadda yadda blah blah blah. If this post gets completely overlooked, so be it. If I get verbally trampled-on by people who don't agree with me, so be it.
But while everyone else is causing a flood of coins on the floor, I'll throw my own 2 cents in.
I think what would be helpful right now -- just in this moment, for the short-term -- is getting through these feelings of worry and despair and panic that I see many posts on my feed announcing. The facts are in front of us: there was an assassination attempt, it failed, and that's worrying because it's gonna embolden the Right even further than they've already been lately. That's completely reasonable to be upset about, it's not irrational to see the danger this will put us in on the streets on the days leading up to the election.
At the same time, there ARE, believe it or not, some positive facts that are having an impact on your life right now. Trump had to go the hospital. He could possibly have a heart-attack. He could possibly go septic. He could possibly be assigned a medical professional that is brave enough to kill him. There was a person brave enough earlier today to show him and his following that enough people in the world hate him to want him dead. Social media being flooded with cheers that he was injured and laments that it didn't kill him is further proof to said willfully ignorant following that they are in the minority. Even if more US voters are enthusiastic about Trump as I type this, most of the world wants him obliterated, and that should be something to hang onto. So much of this is about ego and confidence of the Right. It's not in our best interest to let them think they have a leg up on us.
And the biggest piece of good news is, the US presidential election didn't happen yet! That wasn't the last stand right there, that wasn't the ballot count or the televised verdict. "Surviving" a non-lethal shot that didn't hit any important organs or arteries doesn't mean you automatically win an election. That didn't push an Eject button on Biden's seat to launch him out of the White House or anything like that.
Trump is not invincible. He is not immortal. He is not unkillable. And just because his cult of followers want to canonize him (though they wanted to do that before he was even elected the first time), that doesn't mean WE are obligated to throw in the towel and hang our heads and lick their heels. If it's cathartic or it's helping you de-stress, then by all means cry all you need to -- but we unfortunately can't afford to let this sink us into a collective depression.
He didn't win an election that hasn't happened yet. I promise you this. Look on ecosia.org if you need proof of who is in-office, since they don't use AI(currently).
And no, none of this is to downplay anything. I'm not living in a lie. I promise you, I've been making myself physically ill from the horrors of the world I've been exposed to, day after day, non-stop, on this fucking website. If exposing myself to the bottomless abyss of human evil actually desensitized me and helped me be less fearful, it would've worked by now, but all it does is exhaust me.
It honestly oftentimes makes me actively suicidal -- and I know for a fact I'm not the only one, especially after today, or when Trump was granted legal immunity, or any of these other awful past days. But if I killed myself before I did everything I could to keep this sinking ship of a country afloat just a little longer, that wouldn't be responsible of me.
So, if you're still reading, and not already typing out some response accusing me of things I already tried to tell you I'm not doing before you even finish reading...
Now is the time to practice being brave.
Look at the facts. Don't let yourself spiral from doomscrolling. Cry when you need to, and then keep going. Vote in every local election you can, attend protests and rallies, spread information from trustworthy sources to every social media handle you have -- and for God's sake, find something to keep you hopeful. Escapism is a survival tool: as long as you aren't using it to avoid reality, it doesn't have to be eliminated from your life. You will feel stronger if you let yourself recharge with moments of happiness, I guarantee this.
If you're too suicidal to keep going for yourself, keep going for someone else. It can be someone in your immediate life, it can be a stranger suffering overseas, it can be a child who hasn't been born yet that will see a future built on top of our present. Whatever it takes to keep you from giving up, put it to the front of your mind. Link arms with your Leftist siblings, and then make a habit of it. We cannot keep collapsing from the inside from the smallest of inconveniences, it helps literally none of us.
It's not over until they ring that bell. We have 3 and a half months, don't lose speed now.
I believe in you.

alright my turn ^^' do you have any tma ocs? that you want to talk about? because i'd also genuinely love to hear about them ^^
you have no idea what you just released by asking me that question. i do have tma ocs. 90% of my mind is probably just dedicated to thinking about THEM !!
a little bit of basic info about the universe where they come from, they literally cannot make sense unless it is specified. the universe in which they come from is known as rendezvous, i had started writing this universe like a year ago? in its earliest versions, they actually did not have anything to do with horror, very much a surrealist, almost nonsensical storyline. it still has that surrealism, but it's more horror and since they do now exist somewhat in a tma universe, there's an entity for that !!
the basic sense is simple: rendezvous revolves around a school. rendezvous is about the school and its members. most members (by members, i mean the professors, the headmaster and the students) are avatars but some are not. but they are all linked heavily to the fears as rendezvous is a product of the spiral. okay, so now i'll actually get started with the ocs and the characters in rendezvous. they have very lengthy backstories and they have a lot behind them, so i'll probably just be able to say some info about their patron and just generally what they do.
arguably the very foundation of rendezvous is the headmaster, a clear avatar of the spiral. actually, i would not call her an avatar? she looks human, she acts like one and she has the personality of a human and she used to be a human before. but she is not human. actually, her very essence is one of a school. if you turned her inside out, you would not find a heart or lungs or any human organs: in the place of her eyes, you will find windows belonging to that of a school. in the place of her heart, you will find the entrance way that leads to the school. sort of like michael? after being michael, as humanoid as he was, he wasn't really a human. the headmaster is like that, there is a physical manifestation of the school ofc, like a place where they actually all live and stuff. she can control the school too (open windows and doors without touching them, it can teleport to different locations, all that physical stuff).
the next most important member is a girl who everyone calls the idiot, an avatar of the eye. in the verse, rendezvous had only been a story and a lot of the members were school-friends who contributed to the story. the idiot is important, as she had been the writer before it kind of became real. now, she is a student of the school and also is kind of like the residential therapist (they all have a lot of trauma).
then we come to tuba and mariam, buried and vast avatars respectively. the two and the headmaster (her real name is sohi) are a trio, best friends. before they became avatars, they were going on adventures and they all had specific fields of expertise. tuba prized over the streets, mariam was dedicated to water bodies like oceans and lakes and rivers, sohi was weddings specifically. in weddings, she would act all sweet to the brides and lie and then, steal their jewelry. many adventures, free to do as they please, until they separated in april and got into some deep shit. they died.
megha, a desolation avatar. her transformation, unlike the other avatars, had actually happened after the school had been initiated. even before, she had been self-destructive, and had a keen love for fire. her first 'mark' came from an attack in the school from a few desolation avatars. basically the school, outside being a setting for education for the members, to other avatars and outsiders, it was sort of a resting place. it was neutral ground, no violence allowed. it was open to anyone who wanted a place really, also the idiot is among the very very few eye avatars who is not part of the magnus institute, so many would come to her information.
a lot of end avatars, two of whom are historical figures (albert einstein and pablo picasso, risen from the dead to be professors) and two are dead and had risen and weren't very spectacular. james and connor.
two lonely avatars. they are interesting to me, they are extremely codependent with one another and they act as a unit. they actually had been part of peter lukas' crew and he had sent them separately, they would suffer if they were not together, to the forsaken but they were so lonely that they actually just survived and became avatars themselves. found each other in there, now they are a single unit.
three non-humans, only one is actually a monster, that monster is of corruption. the other two are just weird stuff that talk. a lemon and a sharpener. they were both like talking and living because the spiral just loves a little bit of absurdism that just isn't really scary. and then there's a normal girl, who isn't an avatar at all. she is an angel.
THIS IS A LONG POST WOA but that is the intro to them !! ngl, seeing your post, i wanna make a tma rp blog too

Home Is Where the Heart Is🏠❤️
Pairing: Black!Fem!Reader x Emily Prentiss (Platonic)
Category: fluff☁️
Summary: After being attacked in her own home, Emily helps Reader settle back in.
Content Warning(s): swearing, mentions of- near drowning, near-death experience, afterlife, anxiety, blood
A weight should’ve been lifted off of my shoulders when the doctors informed me I was cleared to go home. Instead, my heart sunk into the bottom of my chest.
They say that home is where the heart is. In this case, my heart longs to be anywhere but home. Hell, I long to be anywhere but home. After the attack, the fear of going home became bigger than the fear of my attacker paying me a second visit.
What was once a safe space for me has now become a house of horrors filled to the brim with memories I don’t wish to relive. Being attacked in the one place where you’re at you’re most vulnerable state means having all positive memories of that place ripped away in an instant.
Since my arrival at the hospital, I’ve been bombarded with “comforting messages” such as, “you’re lucky to be alive,” and “it could’ve been a lot worse,” and my personal favorite, “there are people who have been in a similar situation and they didn’t survive.” Usually, I would just acknowledge their words with a nod of my head, but I couldn’t force myself to accept the fact that I’m one of the “lucky ones.” Eventually, however, I grew to believe them, until the familiar drive home.
My coworker and best friend, Emily, offered to give me a ride home and help me unpack, and, of course, I agreed because I knew that this would require support and guidance that only Emily can provide.
The ride started off smooth, with the occasional jokes and making of weekend plans that we know our job won’t allow, and I was beginning to relax.
Keyword, was.
By the time we reach the entrance to my apartment complex, my hands are beginning to shake, and my palms are moist with sweat. As we drive past the river, I can’t help but think back to last Thursday, when he would submerge my head underwater until I could barely breathe. Whenever I managed to get back up, his fist would collide with the side of my face.
Next, we pass the field behind the apartment building, and I remember how he dragged my near-lifeless body into the plush grass, where he stood over me and watched me take my last breath. That was also the place where I saw “the light.” The blackness created by the back of my eyelids was replaced with a blinding light that made my skin tingle with its warmth. There was no voice that spoke to me, no open arms. Just light and heat. Looking back, I thought it was the fluorescent ambulance lights, but that’s not possible, as I was barely awake when the ambulance came.
Lastly, we turn down the street that leads to my apartment. “I don’t think I can do this anymore,” I whisper, clenching the fabric of my sweatpants. “Maybe I should just book a hotel room instead.” “If you do that,” Emily says, focusing on the road ahead, “you’ll only make this harder than it already is.” “What’s wrong with that?” I ask, desperation filling my tone as we near the front of my apartment building. Emily sighs and spares a quick glance in my direction. “Y/N, believe me when I say this: everyone on the team has had to face this, one way or another.” “What about Reid?” I counter. “Except Reid.” “And JJ?” “You get my point,” she tells me. “Look, we’ll be with you every step of the way, okay?” Not wanting to argue, I simply nod. The car pulls into my parking space, and my body is racked with uncontrollable shudders, which can only mean one thing— anxiety.
I wait by the passenger side door as Emily grabs my bags from her trunk, before slamming it shut and appearing behind me. “You ready?” she asks. “No,” I deadpan. She sighs again and urges me forward, to which I begin the walk towards the building.
After scaling the steep staircase, we reach apartment 624. The door mockingly stared back at me, begging to be opened. My trembling hands fumble with the keys, but I end up dropping to the floor. When I bend down to pick them up, I notice a small, white envelope that seems to have been resting on my front doorstep for no more than a few hours. “Odd,” I think to myself, gingerly picking up the envelope as well as my keys. “Why didn’t they put it in my mailbox?” I wonder aloud. “I dunno,” Emily replies. “It was probably hand-delivered.” I make a note to open it and push the key inside the doorknob.
Click.
I take a deep breath and push the door open, the smell of vanilla greeting my nostrils almost instantly. I knew that Reid had offered for him and Morgan to clean the bloodstains out of my carpet while I was in the hospital, but what makes me smile is the fact that he remembered that vanilla is my favorite scent. “Of course he remembered, Y/N, he had an eidetic memory,” I mentally scold myself. Despite the fact, it still feels nice for him to care about the little things, such as my favorite scent of air freshener. “Where do you want me to put these?” Emily’s voice snaps me back to reality. “Uh, right there is fine,” I respond, pointing to a spot next to the door. “You okay?” she inquires. “I… I don’t know,” I tell her, allowing my hand to fall limp out of her grasp. “This feels wrong.” “What do you mean?” “It… this doesn’t feel like my house. It feels like someone else lives here.” And it does. What should’ve felt familiar to me, things such as the corduroy couches I picked, the sage-green coffemaker Morgan bought me for my birthday, and the framed pictures on the wall of my with my family feel foreign.
I slowly walk around the room, tracing my fingertips along the lacy tablecloth my mom picked out. My eyes wander around the painting I hung on the wall, the pictures, stopping on my favorite baby picture of me, my head covered in thick, curly, dark, hair. I allow a smile to graze my lips as I admire the radiant smile forever frozen in time, captured, and hung on a wall for people to look at.
When I reach the bathroom, I’m hit with the smell of oils. What seems like thousands of hair products have made a home on my countertop, and yet I can’t deep to stop myself from buying more. I allow myself to smile again as a familiar memory brings itself to the forefront of my mind.
“I don’t think I’ll ever understand why girls need so many hair products,” Morgan scoffed, smiling. “I mean, who needs that many variations of the same thing?” “They’re not the same thing,” I replied, picking up a bottle of almond oil. “They all help with different things, like split ends, itching, growth, volume, dry hair, detangling, straightening, blow drying, and styling.” “See, now that’s too much.” “No, it isn’t! The only reason why you think it’s too much is because you’re someone who only needs a razor,” I laughed. Morgan’s eyes widened at my bold claim, but he just chuckled and shook his head. “Fair enough.”
Morgan is always so judge mental when it comes to my hair products, but, then again, any big brother would be. Although we’re not blood related, I’ve always looked up to and admired him as a protective older brother over Spencer and I. My shoulders drop with a sigh, and I make my way back to the kitchen, where Emily is leaning against the countertop and looking at me. “You okay?” she asks. “I think so,” I mutter, awkwardly twisting my fingers. “You know what would make you feel better?” Emily inquires with a ghost of a smile. “What?” I ask, furrowing my eyebrows. “A little housewarming party!” she grins. “Not anything too big, just having our friends at the BAU join us for some wine.” “I-I don’t think that’s a good idea,” I stammer. “Why?” I exhale, unable to find an excuse as to why I don’t want to host a gathering at my apartment. “C’mon, Y/N,” Emily says, taking my hands in her. “It’ll help you loosen up a little. And besides, it’ll be a good excuse to hang out with—” “Fine,” I groan, throwing my head back. Emily gives me a smug look before wrapping her arms around me in a hug. “Thank you,” I whisper. “No problem.”

Watched it all in one night. I'm laughing at myself. I saw the trailer, wasn't interested, saw the first episode and thought, I think this isn't for me. Returned to the series after seeing this tumblr post and... Holy shit.
1. I really really love weird town vibes - not the everyone in town wants to kill/sacrifice you vibe but the ancient gods and creatures living side by side ordinary people or under the seas type of vibe. Again if you've read the Whyborne & Griffin series, you'll know what I mean. "Horrible murder town."
2. Just overall interesting characters. They're dead. You'd think that makes the stakes low because they don't have to worry about dying during a case, but you'd be wrong. Edwin is afraid of going back to Hell (he escaped it on his own! - first time anyway). Charles doesn't want to move on and leave his best friend behind. Edwin is a "stuffy" Edwardian ghost. Charles is a one-earring, bat-wielding 80s ghost.
Crystal is a powerful medium fighting against a douchebag abusive demon ex-boyfriend. Niko is a legit fujoshi lmao and she's probably the kindest, most sincere character there. Jenny the landlord slash butcher shop owner is so so hot and cool. The Night Nurse is hilarious.
3. Themes
Dealing with your past. Histories of abuse. Learning to let new people in and finding a new purpose for yourself. "You never know when the good you do may come back around."
What Edwin went through in life and death is actually pretty sad and traumatic. Charles' life and the events leading to his death was really tragic. There was so much injustice with these boys' lives that it makes sense their detectives.
I know Edwin said something else to the Cat King and that was his confession about why he's doing what he's doing but I also believe him during that outburst at Crystal when he said that their deaths didn't matter. No one back then cared enough about them to investigate their deaths and bring their killers to justice, so now they're going to make sure that the souls who need their help will be able to move on and be at peace.
4. I did not expect Edwin, the stuffy Edwardian lad, to be the It Girl everyone wants for some reason or other. I'm down for it honestly. Everyone's trying to get him but he only has eyes for one person lmao.
5. I love the friendships and found family in this show.
6. This show is actually creepy. I mean it's horror yeah but with the major characters being teens, I thought they'd tone down the gore but not exactly. I mean sure there's comedy here but it's like in the Fear Street trilogy, you see blood and people getting slashed or stabbed or whatever. And the ghosts are not ectoplasmic. They're humans with blood pouring out of their wounds. Also, that Misery Wraith was so freaky to look at.
At this point in my life, I'm watching shows with older characters, but if this thing had come out when I was younger, I probably would have gotten obsessed. But I do love this show honestly. I wish it will have a season 2. I won't be surprised if it won't because I honestly do not expect anything from Netflix. But it's such a good damn show, and it would be a shame not to see these characters again.

I've written a bit of Manfred and Damon interacting, but I think this is the first time I've really had just him and my S/I talk
Despite the amount of time that Police Chief Gant and my boyfriend spent together, it wasn't often that I was left alone with the former. Manfred was reluctant to let me. Not out of concern for my safety, or even my comfort; it was an entirely selfish reason. He had warned me that Gant was highly experienced with obtaining information from people, and would use all his tricks to try and probe me for sensitive details.
Embarrassing me wouldn't likely be his intention - on the contrary, I was merely a weak link that enabled him to get more ammo to use on Manfred. I wasn't about to protest that. All Gant had to do was say the right word (or the wrong one), and my face would blush a bright red. If that wasn't enough, my body language would give me away just as well. I was an open book full of top secret information.
But when the two of them were at work on the same crime scene and Manfred walked off in a huff to chastise some poor detective, I was left vulnerable. It was just as well, I had some questions of my own I wanted to ask.
“Fancy meeting you here,” Gant said with an amiable smile as he sidled up to me. “I don't often see you when there's still a body on the ground. What's the occasion?”
“Oh, well, um…” I glanced out the window past the police tape to the other side of the street. We stood in a restaurant I'd never eaten at before (and couldn't anytime soon), but right by the crime scene sat a confectionery. “I haven't really been to this part of town, and Manfred told me we could go buy some candy after he was done. Which…sounds like a pretty morbid date, now that I say it out loud.”
Gant chuckled. “Oh, it sounds quite pleasant to me. Aside from the company, perhaps.”
“What do you mean?”
“It's just that I could never imagine Manny as the type to take someone out for sweets after work. I suppose I still can't.”
“He's nicer than you think, y'know. I mean- to me, anyway. Maybe he'd be nice to you too if you weren't trying to bug him all the time.”
Gant placed a hand on his chest and gasped in mock horror. “Me? Whatever did I do?”
“You keep calling him ‘Manny’, for one thing, and I'm sure he's told you to stop.”
“Ah, that. I give everyone I like a little nickname, you know. Helps build a friendly working relationship.”
“Yeah, I've heard-” I paused, and frowned. “Wait, why don't you have a nickname for me, then?”
Gant shook his head. “Now that's a line I don't dare cross. Annoying Manny is one thing, but his girlfriend? I don't want to know the consequences of that.”
“So you admit you're doing it just to annoy him!”
“Hmm? Guilty as charged, I suppose.”
The conversation seemed to die down after that, and it didn't feel like I'd given away anything particularly valuable about my boyfriend. Maybe the chief of police was just interested in an ordinary chat that day.
“I was wondering something,” I began. “Do you…do you actually like spending time with Manfred? Or do you just like bothering him? Um, sorry if that sounds rude.”
“Oh, you're fine. It's true that he's rather fun to mess around with, but that's not the only reason I like to talk to him. I don't think he'd give me the time of day if that was all I intended.” His jovial expression became a bit more solemn as he twirled a bit of his hair between his fingers. “When I met Manny, he was much the same as he is today. Fewer wrinkles, maybe, and with less of a reputation behind him. But he still did his best to strike fear into anyone who would stand against him, and innocent bystanders as well.”
He looked in the direction Manfred had gone in when he left to give his reprimanding, and I followed his gaze. His description of my boyfriend sounded accurate to me. Everyone was afraid of him, even the ones that stood on his side. Nearly everyone, at least.
“He didn't seem like the type to make friends easily,” Gant went on. “Seemed like a lonely way to live, if you ask me. So I tried to be friendly with him. I don't think he's quite warmed to me yet, but he tolerates my presence like nobody else. Present company excluded, of course."
“Yeah,” I said quietly. “He could use some more friends, I think. And I know Manny wouldn't spend so much time with you if he really hated you. Do you think there's anyone else he could-”
“Hmm? What was that you said?”
“I was just asking if-”
“No, no. You used a certain name.” Gant grinned wide, and I felt my heart sink. “It sounded so natural, too. Has my little nickname caught on?”
“I-I, um-”
The police chief clapped his hands together excitedly. “Ohoho, I knew it! I've made a pet name for the great Prosecutor von Karma!”
“You did not!” I could feel my face heating up in betrayal of me. “I was just using that because you kept saying it over and over. That's all.”
“A little advice: don't go into professional poker. You just don't have the aptitude for it. I'd tell you not to go into crime either - you wouldn't last a minute under questioning - but I don't think your boyfriend would let that happen in the first place.”
I blinked at him. “...Huh?”
“Well, Manfred, or Manny to you, he's got quite a bit of influence. You'd think being in a relationship with a defense attorney would be more helpful in a tight spot like that, but you'd be wrong.” He chuckled to himself. “They could only keep you out of prison if you're actually innocent. And I'd say Manny's salary is another point in his favor over those attorneys.”
I frowned. “I'm not interested in committing any crimes. Or in his salary.”
“Is that so? Those sweets of yours have to come from somewhere.”
“They don't cost that much! I could buy a few candies with my own money.”
“What is it about him, then? Don't tell me it's his personality.”
“That's part of it, actually. He's very nice to me.” I stared defiantly into Gant's eyes, for at least a solid two seconds before his icy gaze made me look down. “...And he looks good. I think. Very, um, stylish.”
I was only met with more silence. I glanced up to see the police chief still staring me down and quickly averted my eyes.
“I know you probably won't believe me, but I think he's cute. Even with the wrinkles.” I paused for another uncomfortable moment, able to feel the eyes boring into me without even seeing them. “...What more do you want from me?”
“Oh, that's plenty. I was just wondering how much you'd say if I stayed quiet.”
I managed to look back up at him and saw a wide, infuriating grin. Maybe Manfred really had no other friends if he chose to spend time with this man.
“So, I suppose you've already told him all of that?” Gant asked, fiddling with his hair again.
“Sort of. I mean, maybe not in those exact words. I don't know if I have the courage to call Manfred cute to his face.”
“Don't worry about that! I can pass it on for you.”
I opened my mouth to protest, but a loud reprimand came from behind me.
“Damon! Cease bothering my assistant and get back to work this instant!”
I turned around to see my savior stomping over, cane in hand. “Manfred! Are you done yet?”
“I am.” My boyfriend reached my side and glared at Gant, making me grin for the first time in a while. “You, on the other hand, still have business to take care of, and I'm not staying around to watch. When I come into the office tomorrow, I expect to have all I need for a prompt trial.”
The police chief nodded, looking rather unperturbed. “Of course. Have fun on your date, Manny.”
“Hmph.” Manfred beckoned for me to follow him, and led the way outside and past the police tape blocking off the crime scene. We walked a short distance toward the candy shop, but he stopped and turned to me before crossing the street, just out of view of the restaurant’s windows. “...What did he do?”
“Well, he showed me what you have to deal with whenever you work together,” I replied with an awkward laugh, and cut it short when I saw that my boyfriend wasn't laughing with me. “He didn't make me say anything too embarrassing about you. I think.”
It was embarrassing for me, if anything. But maybe I could get ahead of it by saying the words myself rather than leaving them for Gant to share.
That wasn't entirely true. The fact that I was using the nickname Gant made up was much more information than I wanted to share, though I wasn't sure if he'd use that against Manfred. And telling the chief of police how cute I thought my boyfriend was wouldn't exactly be a loss for him. Surely every girlfriend thought their partner was cute; the only difference was that mine happened to be a sixty-five year old man.
“Uh, c'mon, let's just go get some candy,” I said instead, taking Manfred's hand and hoping the courage would come to me before we got to the store.
“Very well. Just know that all you have to do is say the word, and I can bring up my own dirt on Damon. He's not the only one who can weaponize information.”
“You've got something on him?”
“Plenty. There are a host of incidents that he'd rather be forgotten, some that would simply cause a minor stir in the police department and some that would have him fired. Just mention any of that, and he'll quiet down for you.”
“That does sound pretty convenient. But, um-” I slowed my pace as we neared the confectionery, pausing just before the doors. “...There's something I wanted to say, real quick.”
Manfred looked at me with renewed concern. “What is it?”
“Uh…I just, erm, wanted to say that you look-” I swallowed a lump in my throat and tried my hardest to raise my voice above a whisper, “...cute. Like, um, you look n-nice, I mean.”
My boyfriend stared at me for a second before a smile slowly spread across his face. “Thank you. You're quite cute as well, especially when you turn that particular shade of pink.”
I giggled, all of my nervousness bubbling up and fading away. “I've wanted to tell you that for a while. It just kinda sounded weird to use that word, I guess.”
“Not at all. I always appreciate compliments, and they mean much more coming from you.”
“Maybe I'll tell you how cute you are more often, huh?” I leaned against him and wrapped my arms around one of his, nuzzling him playfully. “My cutie pie. Putting the cute in prosecute. My…prosecutie?”
I fell into a fit of giggles and the occasional snort, somehow overwhelmed by my own terrible pet name.
“Y'know, I think I'll stick with ‘Manny’,” I said when I'd managed to recover. “Mr. Gant did make a good nickname, I'll give him that much.”
Manfred pressed a kiss to my forehead and grinned at me. “Indeed. Just don't tell him that, hmm?”
“Uh…about that. I might have called you Manny in front of him.”
“...Ah. A little blackmail may be in order, then. But first, let's get some sweets."

2024 media thread PART AUGUST
6th August: Fear Street 1994
despite my love for the horror genre, i've honestly never watched much horror- in fact, i'd say this is probably my second horror movie, ever? and while i did very much primarily pick this because of the sapphics, holy shit, what a fun time
i'm not very well-versed in the genre, but i really liked the combination of slasher and supernatural. the set up is so interesting, and i'm very much looking forward to learning more over the next two entries. i love how the movie works both as a stand-alone, and as a set up for the rest of the trilogy
also, what a fun cast!! i really liked the dynamic at play here, and how grounded everyone was; outside of the very beginning, i never had a 'oh my god, why are you acting so DUMB' moment. also, a small moment i really loved was how, despite the town's differences, Sunnyside and Shadyside both refused to tell the cops anything. ACAB, and all that 👏
definitely looking forward to watching the other two :]
13th August: Jujutsu Kaisen 0
tfw a friend makes you go watch a movie, and you come out of it with another black haired boy to cry about
okay, for real- while i don't know everything about JJK, i do know enough to watch this, and it's definitely a really good movie. i think Gege's writing actually really shines in it, because it perfectly encapsulates a lot of what he does best- tragedy, human connection, that perfect note of horror that really makes his series special. it was a little rushed, like i think a two-parter would have been really good, but we did get enough to make everything make sense, and, like. this got me attached to Geto. i literally stopped watching s1 before he really got to show up (yes, i know about the thing, but you get what i mean). and i nearly cried at the end
it's! a really good movie!! it did make me really attached to Yuta and Maki and Inumaki (i feel like Panda is more of a gimmick character to round out the cast, than a real character? like, obviously that could change in the actual series, but he did fall a bit flat here) and it does showcase enough of the Geto/Gojo relationship to tease the fans, and all around, it's. a nice way to restart my watch into the series?
it does kind of make me want more time with the kiddos tho. can we get a spin-off. can we get to watch them train together and be babies. that would be nice
(also get Geto therapy. please. i know he's dead, but i think maybe if you give enough therapy to his corpse, that could fix some things)
21th August: WIND BREAKER
how the FUCK is this anime not more popular, how the fuck has the whump community not devoured it whole, how the FUCK is there not more fanart and fanfic, like hello? hello??? the most tumblr-catered thing to ever exist, and NO ONE IS TALKING ABOUT IT...
literally, genuinely, this is just. it's one of the best written shounen i've ever seen. it's so well done- every character is distinct and has an unique and compelling design, and the way the plot and character arcs are weaved together, even just from what little you're getting from the anime, it's just- it's so well done
Sakura, as a protagonist, is so so interesting too. he's completely out of his comfort zone, he's basically a feral kitten forced into an affectionate household, like he has no clue what to do with himself, or anyone- but he wants, so much, to Do Good. this is a guy who has been starved for affection, for kindness, who craves is so deeply he can't even handle other people holding hands. like the whole set up is just. chef's kiss. absolutely delicious i'm eating so good
and then there's the Shishitoren arc, which the anime covers, and which broke my head open and filled me with Love Togame, like just. the whole arc. it's so well-written and perfectly paced, and the way everything is done is just. UGH. UGH!!!!!! I LOVE IT SO MUCH
and just. i could gush for days. about this anime. i could gush about the characters, about the plot, about the ANIMATION. THE FUCKING ENDING AND OPENING?? ARE SO GOOD?? and the FIGHT SCENES, UGH, they're so fucking fantastic, like just. this is genuinely one of the best series i've ever seen, and it's a crime it's not more loved. if we don't get a season 2, i am throwing hands
23th August: Fear Street 1978
pretty good! i do think it suffers a bit from being the middle child, with lots of focus on set up, but i had fun anyway. honestly, i don't have a lot to say about this one?
i liked the sibling focus, i liked the characters, i liked the background we got fed, and how it kept itself tied to what it already set up (Ruby Lane's mother! neat!), but it's- yeah, it's the middle child. not much to say
i will say i fucking died when we got the self harm reveal, because that shit was so crap. also i wish Alice and Cindy had kissed. the tension was there, okay. we could have gotten 3/3 lesbians :(
27th August: Yomawari: Midnight Shadows
usually i wouldn't put this on my list, since i didn't play it, but- i have already played it once. and i did watch Shae play all of it, so. like. it can be here. primarily because i just wanna GUSH about this game for a hot second, like. aaaaaaaaaah
i love this game. like, i ADORE this game. so much. it's so up my alley, with its japanese horror (yokai!! spirits!! SHRINES AND GODS!!!) and kids-going-through-it energy, and just. OUGH. LETTING ME EXPLORE A SPOOKY LITTLE TOWN?? YES PLEASE...
and Midnight Shadows, which is the second game in the series, and also the only one i've played, is just- it's so good. the story is genuinely so well-written and crafted, and yeah, it's not super in depth- you're basically getting a RPGmaker game, here, but. man
Yui and Haru's story hits. the twists hits. there is something so elegant in its simplicity, and i adore it so very much
also, also- Chaco is the best boy. and i love him. and i would die for him. and the fact that you get to walk around with him in the post-game is everything
(also- also- i love the art. there's something about it that just hits my brain real good, and i would absolutely buy an artbook. i would buy multiples. Nippon Ichi, please)
31th August: Fear Street 1666
if 1978 stumbled a bit due to being the middle child, 1666 fucking nailed it by being the youngest- or the finale, more accurately
it absolutely hit all the beats it needed to, and tied up everything so good- even its twist was done fantastically, and makes perfect sense. i do think this whole trilogy was really improved by being filmed at the same time, though i can't imagine it was an easy time. i especially really love the little call forwards, they're cute :]
also, honestly, the 1666 section was probably my favourite- which is mostly because i really like folk horror, and the witch bits, and just. the setting 💖 give me more of that please 💖
also really like the finale bits, and just- idk! it tied everything up really well! i'm ignoring the post-credit scene, because that was so unnecessary, but outside of that, Fear Street is just a really good trilogy. it also had sapphics, which improves everything, in my humble opinion, so like. hell yeah

It was a normal day. Was being the operative word, obviously. I was just on my way to work about to step into the car but when I put my foot down I fell. My car was gone? Confused I looked around and realized my home and street and everything I knew was gone! No, that's not it. I was surrounded by a unfamiliar city scape. Everywhere I looked there was... Beings... Almost human looking but off. Their faces were too skinny, arms, legs and torsos too wide, and they were too short and dark. Walking around and what looked like talking but I didn't understand them. The buildings were unrecognizable, what matieral were they made from? Not glass or clay. Panic set in as I realized I didn't recognize anything at all. There was signs up, with writing it almost felt like I could read it but not quite. This was off quite like anything I've seen not manderin or sand script (not that I could read those anyways but I least I recognize a bit right) it was almost like every language I've ever seen mixed together fuldely like rivers leading to the ocean.
Someone locked eyes with me. I can only imagine the look on their face as horror, curiosity and confusion as intense as my own. I probably looked as weird to them as them to me. Our eyes didn't move till suddenly I noticed it was quiet. Everyone stopped, some hid in the surrounding building looking at me through doors or windows others just standing, frozen, staring.
One came up to me and started talking? I think? I couldn't understand but it felt like my brain was trying to, like sometimes a word or syllable sounded familiar. Both too confused and too polite to cut them off I waited for them to finish.
"I don't understand" I said, trying my best to use body language in hopes they might feel this same weird sense of understanding without understanding. They just stared back at me for a moment, turned and yelled something toward someone else. Suddenly everyone that had stopped of his was coming running at me. Fear. Panic. What's happening??? "WAIT, STOP, WHAT DO YOU WANT?" I screamed as they cornered me. Everyone stopped. But not like normal. They froze, some in the air, some mid step. I noticed some kinda bug thing in the air frozen mid flight. Maybe this was normal for them? Maybe they could hover and that was normal. Maybe? It's possible right? I mean this morning I thought I knew what the world was but this, this I don't know the rules here. I looked to the one who yelled "I..." they won't understand but what, else can I do? "I don't know where I am, I don't understand."
No response.
There's still frozen, everything is. Even the air felt stagnant. Wasn't it windy? Im not sure. I didn't exactly have time to notice. A few yards away someone came around the corner. The looked around a moment and what I believe is sheer horror that had then trembling took over their face. Their eyes landed on me. Neither of us moved, I guess I should try and see if I can communicate again.
"help me!" I hollard. "I don't know where I am I don't know what happening!"
They started walked towards me, slowly, but that, terror didn't seem to disappear. They looked around, keeping on a straight line directly towards me. Took my hand pulled on me waving. Their hand almost like mine but they had 2 thumbs, one of each side. I guess they want me to follow them. Why hadn't anyone else started moving?
We walked for some time, I domt know much about physics but I think the gravity wherever I am must be the same as on earth, it doesn't feel harder to stand or walk so I think that's how it works. They didn't talk, neither did I. No point since we don't understand eachother right?
Eventually we came to a large building, seemed different than all the others. I feel like they were probably homes or shops but I could be wrong. This one tho, it's different, I'm not sure how. I can, barely understand that much. As this person? Should. I call them that? I don't know if they could be considered a person but uts the best I've got. As they led me into this building they spoke to someone that, was dressed in something different than everyone else, slimmer? Tighter than the rest but move covering. Like a divers suite. again as they, spoke together I felt I could understand fragments but I couldn't make enough out to understand even a concept of what they were saying.
They, stopped and looked at me, the other one said in a weird accent "safe" and a calming rush came over me. What just happened?
"you can understand me? Where am I? What's happening? Can you help me?" panic was already coming back, I have to get home! Back to my family, friends and life!
"calm" their accent seemed worse now but again I felt at ease. They motioned for me to follow them and pulled out this incredibly old worn out looking, book? It's shape was weird though, round and open at the top. They showed me the pages.
"it's English!?" do they know English?
"read" they said. And I did, without, anither thiught I grabbed it from them and read faster than I thought I could. After a short while I stopped.
"these are just random words and phrases? There's no cohesive point to it"
"read" and again without another thought I read for bit less than before though. Just till I came across the words 'arcane power'. I stopped there. I looked up and before saying anything "read!" that time it sounded more clear, like their accent had weakened. I read on. On and on.
On the last couple pages it read 'this is a warning to all who learn to harness this arcane power, you must not speak. You must choose every word said in this tounge extremely carefully. You cannot use this for good or evil. For it does not matter. You will throw off the balance of this world. If you can read this these words hold a power like nothing else. Together we; the human race from earth, eradicated this language long ago and locked it away. We came here from far away but when we did we quickly realized the power we held. When we stood on this planet under this sky whatever we spoke held a power we did not deserve to weld. Our sins our many, so we're our virtues but in the end; as with the ancient teachings of yin and yang, we could not espace the evil within the good or the good within the evil. For centeries we chased each other trying to get the upper hand on one another. Till finally, the most power evocker spoke the final word. One that reached us all wherever we were. "end this." the sheer power within those words as they resonated the very air in all our lungs. One after another we all did what we felt would end this. Some killed, some killed themselves, some cut off their tounges or simply stopped talking. Some of us ran, tried to leave. Some worked the rest of their lives; often without using this power, to remove all evidence we could of our existence and the power we brought with us. Power none should have. And some, like me, wrote. A warning for anyone who may one day come here. I am begging you, no good for anyone not you or anyone else will come from speaking on this planet. Only an endless bloody war. Your words will change people's minds and soul, the more feeling true and real of any kind behind them the stronger they are, the farther they reach and the longer they last. The evokes words will fade one day. Written word isn't nearly as strong so with all the truest strongest feeling I can must I am telling you. DO NOT SPEAK.'
Tread in my eyes, I wanted to apologize but. I couldn't. I just want to go home. The implications of this, it's far too much. I've always been a moral person, holding true to promised I made to myself long ago. Never wavering from that decision. If I stay here I can never speak again...
THE PEOPLE! They must have stopped because of me! I have to fix at least that. I looked around not knowing what to do, not knowing what I can say. My wuistioms didn't seem to affect them, just verbs. My helper still being there, was it because I demanded help? How can I set them free? How long will that last? My emotions were true and strong, so that means it must last for long right? I remember reading something about how to undo certain words in the book, flipping through the pages I found it. In big bold letter at the top 'undoing what was done'.
'you must be very careful, when primal emotions such as fear, anger, and love fill your heart and soul your power could last lifetimes. To undo magic used when those feeling fill you is not as simple as saying the opposite of what you said, that will just cause them to do the opposite. No, the cure infact is simpler than even that. To free a person under your control you must hold in your heart true remorse and say "I'm sorry, undo, please continue" these words will break any enchantment spoken only by you.
I can't remember the way back to those people, I need that person to take me back. I need to set them free but I need to set this person free too... How can I do bith without using this person again? They aren't a tool for me. The Spiral of what I feel is right and wrong and what's easiest or not fluttered in my head a tornato of guilt, frustration and shame for that frustration chased eachother. Finally I looked up. Staring into this person's eyes. Remorse filled me. My heart hurt for taking away their freedom.
"I'm sorry, undo, please continue" I spoke every syllable as clearly as I could. They look of bliss they, seemed to have rush over them. I can only imagine what it feels like, having all control over your own thoughts and mind being taken from you to be used by someone else. I barely know, all I had to do was chill out and read a little. This person walked me for what felt like hours and stayed by my side this whole time against their own will. Probably not even fully understanding what was happening or why. Why their mind was taken over with a need to help me. They spoke again with the other one who handed me the book for a while, looking back at me as I felt my heart droop in my chest at the weight of what I carry here. I went to leave, no reason for me to stay now I have to find those frozen people.
One of them grabbed my arm, the one who'd given me this book. They took my hand and tried to pull my back. I refused, I have to free them! I tried my best charades (which I was always really horrible at) to tell them what I wanted without words. Speaking amongst themselves a moment it seemed they came to an agreement and the one who led me here had me follow them. Again we walked for what felt like hours; my guilt grew as I realize the time I took from them, we continued on and on till I was right back where I started. Everyone around still frozen. The time I took from them... With one word. I felt as if my heart would break.
More remorse and guilt than I've ever felt in my life washed over me. There was what looked like children, younglings, animals, all of these people truly innocent and undeserving of what I've done to them.
"I'm sorry, undo, please continue."
. . .
Years passed, at first I tried to find a way home. Read every text. I could find, some left me frozen for hours. I had to be careful, some of those that wrote these texts were not as kind and moral as the first I'd read. Some tried to have me enact their will. At times people would find me, most were kind, but, there was enough out there that knew enough to try and use me that eventually I just gave up hope. I hid myself away. I couldn't risk doing, what I'd done when I arrived. Some searched for me, occasionally catching up and trying to confort help or use me. One thing I was able to find out was that, the things around me, they were the people from this planet, humans had family's with some long ago. That's why they look kinda like us. Our languages are ingrained in theirs from the war, many of us upon learning what our power can do came here to use it to get what they wanted most. Trying their own languages and some worked to a degree but none as good as 21st center English. I never found out why that specifically was but I did learn know everyone I loved was long gone. I hadn't just moved through space when I came here, I moved through time too. I was well into the future.
I can't run from those who would use me forever and as news spread many tried their best to learn what words they could to get me to do their bidding. I only have one choice to truly end this. I fought only long enough to destroy all but that first book, and even all the other pages beside the last few and the undo. Even that I fear is too much but I can only hope if anyone else like me lands here, they too hold my Morals.
After all was said and done, I disappeared in the one true way I could. Screaming with every feeling I think I've ever felt as loudly as I could, the words descending right from my soul vibrating the air around me. I hope this works.
"forget me, and forget my power. Forget this power ever existed." I had only one person with me as I did this. I looked to them, as they looked through me. It was the person who had the first book. "you shall remember. Goodbye and thank you."
With those last words I...
You’re suddenly transported to another world where magic is cast by perfectly pronouncing an ancient language. This language happens to be your native tongue

Words once said cannot be unsaid (Suna x reader x Samu)
I wrote this in like an hour since I like to hurt myself but enjoy!!
Tumblr media
“How dare you think you're the only one to lose? What about us huh? What about us the minute you get tired? God Y/N you act so naive but how do we know we won’t be in the same boat? How can we trust you? How can I trust you not to just blindly fall out of love with us? How can we trust you not to throw us to the street the minute you feel unlovable? God you’re so hard to love sometimes!”
The words fell of Osamu’s tongue in such an articulate manner. As if he had been practicing breaking you in front of everyone. Grey eyes wild with fear, anger and jealously slowly morphing into fear and horror as Samu understood the ramifications of the words he had so carelessly thrown. Suna stood next to him, his usually hazy eyes wide with clarity, insecurity and fear as well as he looked at Osamu in horror. Yes they both had been angry at you. But not a single part of it had been your fault. They had heard from your friends why you and your ex had broken up and they never told you they knew. They had let it culminate into this monster of insecurity between them and that monster had burst through in the middle of the party. A party meant to celebrate you was now the grave in which they had just buried their relationship as both boys now looked at you.
The world stilled around you. Everyone’s breath held suspended in the air as they watched the two most doting men on the planet not just lay your insecurities bare for all of your friends to see but completely shatter any trust you had in them. You felt the heat in your face and chest before you felt the tears collecting in your eyes. The tremble that started in your lower lip and followed throughout your body. You stood opposite them, your stance was cautious and scared while theirs had been defensive and angry but now became terrified and just as trembling as they watched you.
It was Suna who took a step towards you first, arm and hand outstretched.
“Pretty Girl...”
It was all it took. All it took for you to shatter as you turned away as if it hurt to look at the two of them and in that moment it did. Suna let out an audible whimper at watching you so blatantly reject their comfort and care. Samu jumping into action as both boys jumped to get to you but were stopped short by Bokuto and Kuroo. The latter growling low in his throat. All the boys were deeply protective of you but Kuroo especially so. You two had been together through so much. He knew what your life was like and for Samu to say what he said was unforgivable. Osamu was immediately standing up straighter readying himself for the challenge but was stopped short from barrelling through by Atsumu and Meian who held onto him. Samu was immediately fighting them off and though it was tough Tsumu dug his feet into the ground.
“Osamu calm down man! C’mon... just take a deep breath! Look you need to give her space.” Truthfully Atsumu had never been more pissed at his brother but right now anger wouldn’t help the situation.
“Tsumu get the fuck of me... Angel c’mon just wait okay! Pumpkin please just hear me out fuck... We didn’t... No I didn’t mean to... cmon princess”
Suna in the mean time tried to go around the two boys who had formed a wall only to stop short as he watched Ushijima Wakatoshi, the man that these two were so deeply insecure of cradle your face with one hand, an ice pack in the other. Suna watched Ushijima take care of you the way you needed and he felt his heart crack. He couldn't even be angry because Samu and him had basically pushed you into his arms. He was accompanied by Hinata who was rubbing your back with a gentle hand, trying his best to calm you down though you hadn’t even started to cry. You always hated crying infront of others and Wakatoshi knew that as he slotted you under his arm to lead you out of the event room. Kageyama stood to your other side. He was so incredibly pissed and he when he got a view of Suna standing there watching you he took it upon himself to cover you completely from their view. In his head Suna and Samu did not have the right or privilege to see you get hurt this way when they are the ones who put you there. Suna immediately tried to walk over,
“Pretty girl... wait please okay we are sorry... its just a... Hey!”
He was stopped short by Tsukishima and Yamaguchi, the former levelling Suna with an unimpressed look while the latter gave a disapproving glare. But it was all futile cause as this went on Ushijima, Hinata, Kageyama and Sakusa who had retrieved a bottle of water of you were leading you out and away from the two boys you thought you were going to marry and those two could do nothing but watch and fight all the other boys as you left the hotel event room.
This is trash and also adopted from what I was originally going to write for Samu’s flower girl series. but yeah lmk if you want a part 2 hehehe

ironheart // prologue
Tumblr media
on her merry little way to school, (first/name) encounters a dangerous villain, blocking her usual quick route. deciding to find another way seems like the best option, until she notices a child struck with fear. damn, why is her moral compass so willed?
next chapter // masterlist // warning : fight scene, minor cursing
bnha! characters x afab! reader // 1.32k
Tumblr media
Hurriedly walking through the streets of Japan, desiring to get to her school across city, (F/N) had no time to mess around. If she got to school after the bell rang, who knows what would happen?
Even if she’s late, it wasn’t really her fault, considering all the unpredictable things that could happen, was it? Couldn’t be, but who could tell what her the dean of students would say.
Her school was strict, unnecessarily strict when it came to being late. It wasn’t like students could control time or what happens in the morning, so why in hell are students reprimanded for it?
Basically jogging to get to her school, she overheard other citizens mindlessly talking about a villain incident up ahead, hopefully she would be able to avoid that area. Hopefully.
Well, she couldn’t avoid the area. The closer and closer she got to the nauseating gasoline-scented area the closer she saw the debris filled area. It had looked like a war zone, which it really was.
A super-sized villain stood on the street, wildly waving his arms and roaring, maximizing the damage he could actually perform. The wreckage and rubble from the battle cracked the stiff concrete around the area, barely managing to not From the amount of damage done to the surrounding features, even an uneducated fool could tell this guy was dangerous to everyone.
Rushing citizens out of the way, rescue heroes and pro heroes dashed onto the scene, some helping citizens and some directly attacking the villain. They tried their best, but was it really enough?
Hidden in the chaos of the whole situation, a kid lay awestruck in his spot at the sight in front of him. I mean who wouldn’t be, this was a behind the scenes of his favorite hero(es). But this was not worth the consequence that awaited him.
His once excited expression turned into horror as small debris started falling towards him. Stricken by fear, the kid was unable to move as multiple hit the space around him, the aftermath hitting his shoes.
The rescue heroes weren’t able to spot him, but (L/N), who did, hurtling into the battle, grabbing onto the energy gloves hidden away in her pockets as she ran.
Should she really be doing this? What encouraged her to save this random child, this stranger she would probably have never seen again, most likely because he would be dead. Why was her moral compass that strong-willed to help her stare death straight in the face to save a child she didn’t even know?
“Come on kid, you gotta move!” First trying to push the kid out of the way didn’t prove to be successful. The kid wouldn’t budge at all, but there was another way (hopefully). She instead slipped on the slim black glove, raising one hand into the sky pointed at the falling rubble, and the other wrapped tightly around the kid. Dragging the kid down with her to get low, (L/N) exclaimed “hold on”, out of breath and waiting until the rubble fell to make her move.
In order for the gloves to work, there would have to be enough energy left order to be able to blast the large scraps away. But this would be the first official test using the gloves, that wasn’t just on random objects. A large force would have to hit in order for her to quickly store energy and then use it the second after, or was there another way? What if she could wait for the rubble to hit and then react? But how much force would that actually provide?
There wasn’t enough time to think, before she let the rubble scrape her middle finger, and reacted.
. . . .
BAM! Blasting away the rubble into smaller pieces, the large debris became smaller pebbles and fell around the pair.
Slowly raising herself out of the discarded rubble with the kid still hanging onto her lower body, she dusted off the scraps of concrete and metal on both of them, before checking in with the kid.
“You alright, kid?” The kid she had rescued cling onto her clothing, most likely leaving dirty grim marks on her school sweater. Untucking his head from her waist, he gave her a big and bright smile, and a thumbs-up! The kid was all good.
A rescue hero popped out of nowhere, speeding over to the scene where (L/N) and the child were both attempting to move to the side, escorting them to the boundary. Was it really necessary? No, but was the job even necessary? Telling the pair to stay there until the fight was over for attention, whether medical reason or not, the two stayed within the perimeter.
The child was now attached to the side of (L/N)’s leg, avidly watching the scene ahead of him. Fascinated with the way Kamui Woods and Mount Lady took control of the situation, stars shone in the vivid bluish-green eyes belonging to the child. (F/N) couldn’t help but feel warm inside at the sight of a child watching something that they enjoyed. But for that to be a fight between heroes and villains took away some of that desirable satisfaction. Slipping off, the now overly powered-up gloves and tucking them away in her pocket, she waited until the battle ended to see what would happen.
Once successfully taking care of the accident, Kamui Woods, Mount Lady, Backdraft, even Death Arms came over to check in. Not exclusively on the kid, but had also praised (L/N) on her quick, but ultimately reckless thinking.
“That’s just the kind of person UA needs, I could put in a good word for you y’know!” Mount Lady playfully nudged the semi-confused (L/N), while Death Arms and Kamui Woods still lectured the girl.
“Thank you?”
A random sidekick of a hero in the area approached her, exclaiming “You’d make a great hero some day with that quirk!” Imagine.
Death Arms coaxed the kid out of clinging onto (L/N)’s legs with a warm smile and kind words, contradictory to his previous actions, bringing him into his arms so they could go off and find his family.
Shaking his head, Kamui gave up on scolding, instead grabbing a card out of his pocket and handing it over to the stunned girl. “When you become a hero, come to my agency, we’ll set you up well.”
Accepting the card and snapping out of her dazed state, (L/N) started walking into the direction of her school at the fear of being late, before colliding into something, no, someone.
Wasn’t really her fault though, the blinding lights from the overwhelming amount of photos taken completely blocked her eyesight. Yeah, that’s a great reason.
Accidentally knocking into some guy with green hair, that somehow resembled that of broccoli, muttering a quick apology wasn’t enough until a question was asked.
“Hey, ar-aren’t you the person who saved the kid on the other side? How’d you do that?” Glancing down at her cellphone, tucked safely in her pocket, she didn’t know what exactly she could do. With the pure excitement radiating off of this stranger, to the impending doom of being late to class, it was a conflicting clash.
“Adrenaline I guess? I don’t know, I have to get to school?” Hurrying off, the stranger’s words were caught in their throat, unable to ask anymore questions and just watched as (L/N) wandered off.
Taking one last glance, and a deep breath, she only had.. 5 minutes! That wasn’t enough time at all!
She did have an excuse after all, but was that really enough? Her school was strict as everyone knows, so what would they really say?
She decided not to figure out, and instead running towards the school in a hurry.
A sprinting (L/N) ran towards her school, not knowing that her entire life was about to change, because of a chance encounter with a random, irresponsible kid and dangerous falling debris.

Leave Your Lover (Wanda Maximoff/ Reader)
Tumblr media
Hello! So, this was going to be one really long part, but it kind of got away from me and I had to split it into two. Don’t worry the next part is going to be very long either way because that’s the half that got away from me. This takes place pre-Infinity War. Inspired by Sam Smith’s “Leave Your Lover”, mainly the line featured.
Summary: A brief glimpse into life on the run. Will Wanda be able to find Y/n?
“If I can't have you I'll walk this life alone, spare you the rising storms and let the rivers flow.”
Being on the run was difficult to say the least and being on the run while trying to find someone who was actively trying not to be found was even worse. Despite being told by the rest of the group that it may be in her best interest to just move on and let you go, Wanda knew that wasn’t an option. She had made a promise to herself that she was going to keep fighting for you, no matter the cost. Wanda had let you go once and she wasn’t going to let it happen, not if there was a part of her that knew you still had love in your heart for her.
The only one who knew where you were at all times was Steve and he had spent the last few months absolutely refusing to disclose your exact location. That never stopped her from trying though.
Eventually though, he gave in. Steve wasn’t sure if it was her sheer determination that impressed him or the fact that he had never seen you happier than when you were with her. If she thought she could create happiness in a terrible situation, Steve thought she at least deserved a true chance and he wouldn’t stand in the way.
When she received the location, Wanda quickly packed what little she had and booked the next train ticket to Rennes, France. Feeling hopeful for the first time since long before the events of Lagos. _________________________________
For the majority of the time you’d been on the run, you stuck to the idea that hiding in plain sight was the best course of action. Which is why you were currently at a poorly lit bar, trying to live as normal a life as you possibly could under the circumstances. The only unfortunate thing was that you couldn’t interact with anyone due to the risk of being discovered. So, when you felt someone tap your shoulder, you knew it would be time to go.
Before turning, you downed your drink to prepare yourself to either get hit on by a random drunk person or convince them you weren’t who they thought you were.
Neither options were what you got when you turned around though. You tilted your head in pleasant surprise at the sight before you.
“Long time no see, stranger.”
Without thinking and perhaps partially due to the alcohol coursing through your veins, you wrapped yourself tightly around the woman in front of you. She laughed in surprise and gladly returned the embrace. You couldn’t help but revel in the contact, touch deprived from all the time you had spent in solitude.
For a while, you both just stood there, wrapped in one another’s embrace. Ignoring the occasional odd look from random passer byers. With one final squeeze, you released her but kept your hands on her shoulders. “You have no idea how good it is to see you, Nat.” you admitted to her with a smile on your face.
Natasha easily returned the smile. “It’s good to see you too. I was passing by outside when I thought I saw you sitting here and I had to see if it was really you.”
“What are the chances?” you asked with a laugh as you signaled the bartender over and ordered drinks. “Let’s celebrate.”
After drinking for a bit and catching up slightly, you both agreed that staying longer would be too much a risk and decided to take a walk outside.
“You dyed your hair.” You noted as you reached over and took a strand of her hair gently in between your fingers before letting it go. “It looks good.”
A playful smirk spread across Natasha’s lips. “Yeah, well, I figured the red was a dead giveaway for me, so… blonde it was.” She nudged you playfully. “A better disguise than a beanie and glasses at least. You’re no better than Rogers.”
A boisterous laugh escaped your lips, “What can I say? That man taught me everything I know.” Natasha shook her head but laughed despite herself.
You knew you would have to separate soon, but you tried not to focus on that. The pair of you walked in contented silence, enjoying the comfort of not being alone, even if it was temporarily.  Eventually you both come up on the street where your hideout was located and for the first time you didn’t feel the need to rush in. Thankfully there was a small bench located across the street and you both wandered over and took a seat, enjoying the cool air.
“How have you been?” Natasha eventually asked, her eyes on yours as she attempted to analyze you.
You pondered the question for a moment. “I’ve been… lonely.” You finally breathed out, turning your gaze skyward. “I feel alone. I miss real connections. I miss just being able to walk down the street without fear of corporal punishment. I miss human contact.”
Natasha’s hand fell to your knee and squeezed lightly. You turned your head to meet her eyes. “I know what you mean. You’re never really alone though, Y/n. You know we’d all be there in a heartbeat if we could, if we have to.”
The touch and the knowledge that you weren’t alone was something you had missed. Again, whether it was the alcohol in both your systems or the deprivation of another human’s touch, but you both found yourselves leaning forward and connecting lips.
It was gentle and nice, but you couldn’t help but compare it to Wanda. Kissing Wanda always felt powerful and right. The way your whole body felt like electricity was coursing through your veins at the simplest of touches. Kissing Wanda always felt like coming home. You could’t help but think you needed this to realize that the one you still wanted was the one you shouldn’t want.
Despite this, you didn’t pull away, tangling your hand in Natasha’s now blonde locks as her hands fell to your waist. You allowed yourself this small moment of comfort.
Across the street, Wanda had been approaching only to stop in horror at the sight before her. Her mind rushing and heart breaking at the sight. If she felt a fraction of what you did that night on the roof, she couldn’t imagine how you got through it. As much as her heart ached in her chest, she didn’t allow it to stop her. She just hoped it wasn’t too late. That you hadn’t already given your heart to another.
After some time, both you and Natasha pulled away. Laughing when you met one another’s eyes. “That was… nice.” You said lightly.
Natasha rolled her eyes and pushed your shoulder. “Yeah, we’re drunk. We will never speak of this again.” She chuckled and looked at her watch. “My train leaves in a little over an hour, I should probably go.” You nodded in understanding and she hugged you once more before beginning to walk away.
“Hey, Nat?” you called after her. She turned. “Take care of yourself, okay?” She nodded and blew a teasing kiss your way before walking off into the night. With a sigh you leaned into the bench and closed your eyes for a moment, taking in the fact that you were alone again.
It had to have been less than a few minutes when you felt someone sit next to you, your eyes shot open and met with stunning emerald eyes that used to be your world. “Wanda?” you whispered, feeling the air leave your lungs at the sight of her.
Wanda quirked her lips up slightly, but there was melancholy in her eyes. “So, you and Nat, huh?” There was no accusation in her tone, just sadness. Possibly even acceptance. You quickly realized that she must have seen the kiss.
“And if we are? Together, I mean. What will you do?” You probed challengingly.
Pain flooded her eyes as she dropped her gaze to her lap. “Nothing. I’m not going to interfere if you’re happy, but… but just know that I won’t stop fighting for you. I’ll be here waiting because our love is destined and I’m not going away. I’ll still love you even if you chose to love someone else. You have all of me. Always.” She paused slightly. “You are my only direction.” She added quietly, repeating the words you once told her back to you.
Your heart clenched at the referenced moment, of one of your formerly favorite moments.
Staring off into the distance, you could feel the numbness begin to fade as the alcohol started to leave your system. “Why?”
She lifted her gaze up to you curiously, but you didn’t meet her eyes. “Why what?”
“Why do you keep trying?”
Wanda took a deep breath and turned so she was facing you completely even if you wouldn’t look at her. “Love.” She stated simply, “I’m in love with you, beyond all rationality. Even if you don’t believe me. I want you to have everything you want, even if its Nat, even if that destroys me.”
Even in Spain you had never heard her speak so passionately. It terrified you. Terrified you so much that you wanted to get up and run far, far away from her. Far from the feelings that her words stirred within you.
Wanda wasn’t done though, she needed to get everything off her chest. To lay all her cards out. “When you love someone, you don’t stop. Even when everyone on the team calls me crazy and tells me I should just move on and let you go. I won’t stop or give up because if I could give up…” She risked taking your hand in hers, sighing in relief when you don’t pull back. “If I could give up and listen to everyone’s advice and move on and find someone else that wouldn’t be love. That would be some imitation that is not worth fighting for.”
“Wanda…” you whispered finally looking up at her, noticing the way her eyes shined with unshed tears.
She squeezed your hand again. “But you… You are more than worth fighting for. You will always be worth fighting for. And if I can’t have you I’ll be alone because no one else can hold my heart. This is love.”
“I’m not with Natasha.” You admitted softly after Wanda’s declaration, watching the way relief filled her eyes. “I think we were both just lonely and comforting each other.”
The relieved smile that took over Wanda’s features was contagious as you couldn’t help but smile hesitantly back at her.
Wanda’s heart fluttered at the sight. That was the first time you had smiled at her since the night on the roof.
“What does that mean?” she questioned hopefully.
With hesitation, you interlaced your fingers with Wanda’s. “It means that I’m still not sure I trust you and I’m not ready to be with you again.” Her head dropped in dejection. “But. I’m not going to ask you to leave if you want to stay and work on that.”
For the first time in a long time, Wanda felt a semblance of happiness blossom in her chest. Unable to stop herself, she surged forward and took you in her arms, melting when you held her back. “I promise I’ll earn your trust back. I’m not going anywhere. I’d follow you to the ends of the earth, Y/n.”
Part 10! double digits! Pre-Infinity War and Infinity war was supposed to be one chapter and in hindsight that was probably overly ambitious of me. That means there will now be 13 parts instead of 12. Anyway, as always let me know what you think, and hope you enjoyed! :)

Have some Somewhere Else goodness, lovely people
Also on Ao3
When Oliver comes into the office Jon is already there, sitting on Oliver’s desk and swinging his legs impatiently.
Oliver stops dead and looks at Gerry, who glances at him and then away, the corner of his mouth twitching in amusement.
“I made you tea,” Jon says coaxingly, his dark eyes fixed on Oliver in predatory fashion.
Oliver approaches warily and takes the tea, waiting for the snare to spring shut.
Jon takes a deep breath, wringing his hands a bit. “There’s a possible Fear related event occurring in Dover that I need to investigate and I want you to come with me.”
“When?” Oliver says suspiciously. He’s pretty sure he has some leave owing and he’s not above pushing his colleagues in front of the proverbial bus.
“Tomorrow. Today would have been better, but…”
“Jon. No. Absolutely not. Take Martin or Gerry, or some random bloke off the street, for all I care. Don’t do this to me.” From behind Jon, Gerry shakes his head frantically.
“It has to be you,” Jon is doing his best impression of a kicked puppy and Oliver closes his eyes in despair. “I’m not going to risk Martin near anything Lonely related.”
“The odds of it actually being Fear related are around zero, Jon. There’s been nothing for months-”
“I don’t care,” Jon says mulishly. “I’m not risking him.”
Oliver presses his hands over his eyes. He loves Jon and Martin, of course he does, but right now he wants nothing more than to fall into the sweet embrace of oblivion until the heat death of the universe.
“How exactly do you plan to explain this to Martin?” Oliver asks, opening his eyes. “He’s not going to be happy and I’d like to be far away when he finds out.”
Jon shifts nervously. “I may have already told him?” he stammers weakly. “He said something about having a word.”
“Jon. Jon.” Oliver shuts his eyes again. Maybe this nightmare will go away if he wishes hard enough.
“Look, I’m sorry—”
“You’ve painted a target on my back!”
“Don’t be ridiculous. It’s Martin. He likes you.”
“So you mean he’ll kill me,” Oliver says gloomily. “But he’ll feel really bad about it afterwards?”
Jon pats his hand patronisingly. “It will be fine. He understands.”
Oliver glares at Jon. “Sorry, we are talking about the same Martin, right? The one who once made an avatar of the Hunt cry?”
Jon waves his hand airily. “That was two weeks after we arrived. He wasn’t in a good place then.”
“Neither was she, when he’d finished with her,” Oliver points out sourly.
Jon laughs, laughs, damn him, and Oliver thinks about resigning there and then. Or possibly sending Jon and Martin on a very, very long boat trip.
“I’ll book the tickets, shall I?” Jon says brightly and walks away in the carefree manner of a man who has successfully offloaded all of his problems onto someone else.
Oliver’s phone pings, and to his horror there is a message from Martin.
Free for lunch?
Oliver briefly considers hiding under his desk until everyone leaves for the day. He’s not been afraid of death in years, and he doesn’t intend to start now, but what comes before death is another matter entirely. He glances up to see Gerry grinning at him from across the room.
“Rather you than me, mate,” Gerry says, not entirely kindly, before ducking the pencil Oliver chucks at him.
“Gerry. We’re friends, right?” Oliver asks desperately. Maybe he can still get out of this.
“Of course we are, which is why I’ll be hanging out with Martin while you guys are off on your seaside trip,” Gerry waggles his eyebrows suggestively. “Maybe I can distract him from all the terrible things you and Jon will be getting up to.”
“For christ’s sake,” Oliver mutters. “I’m surrounded by horrible people.”
“That’s why you love us,” Gerry declares smugly.
Oliver narrows his eyes at Gerry. “Next time you need to borrow a tenner, ask someone else.”
Gerry clutches at his heart in mock betrayal and returns to his work, still grinning.
Oliver mentally includes him in the boat’s complement, before inwardly cursing Jon and Martin, and whatever malign powers had dragged him into this world on their coattails.
Martin turns up to lunch looking cheerful and unthreatening, which makes Oliver more nervous than ever.
“Make sure he eats,” Martin says firmly, demolishing a bread roll. “He’ll forget unless you physically put food in front of him.”
“Sure,” Oliver answers mechanically. If shoving the occasional plate of chips at Jon will keep Martin sweet, he’ll happily buy an entire chippy.
“He has alarms on his phone for his meds, but he’ll switch them off and then forget to take them anyway, so if you could remind him—”
“Okay.” Oliver intends to do nothing of the sort. He’s what can—very politely—be called a researcher, not a glorified cat sitter. Archivist sitter. Ex-Archivist sitter. Oliver imagines holding Jon’s jaw shut until he’s swallowed his pills, and he snorts before he can stop himself.
Martin stares at him for a moment, then blushes and produces an enchantingly bashful smile. Oliver clutches his bread knife a little tighter, just to be on the safe side.
“Sorry, sorry, I know I’m being ridiculous. It’s just—we haven’t been apart overnight since— well, you know.” Martin stares down at his plate and sighs in exasperation. “And he’s really bad at taking care of himself.”
“It will be fine, Martin. I’ll make sure he eats, at least," Oliver sighs.
“And sleeps?” Martin says, looking at Oliver pleadingly.
“I’ll do my best,” Oliver replies guiltily. He sleeps so much himself he’s unlikely to notice what Jon does during the dark hours.
“Okay.” Martin smiles again, a small and worried thing. “Thank you.”
“Make sure you get some sleep too,” Oliver says pointedly.
Martin looks surprised at that, as though the concept of sleep doesn’t apply to him. “I will,” he says finally. “Although I think Gerry has some kind of gaming marathon lined up for us. Jon probably put him up to it to keep me distracted.” He snorts unbecomingly and Oliver grins.
“It’s one night. He’ll be back before you know it.”
Martin looks unconvinced, but for once doesn’t argue.
“Still alive, I see,” Gerry says cheerfully, when Oliver staggers back into the office.
Oliver collapses in his seat and puts his head on his desk. God, he’s tired.
“I have my instructions too,” Gerry continues. “You’re not the only one suffering. And you get to go to the seaside.”
That’s true, Oliver thinks, brightening up. He hasn’t seen the ocean in ages. Maybe Jon can be persuaded to take ten minutes to sit on the beach. Martin would approve, at least; fresh air and all that. Make sure your Archivist is exercised regularly…
“Don’t forget to send us a postcard,” Gerry grins, and ducks when Oliver chucks another pencil at him.
“You owe me so many drinks,” Oliver growls.
“I do, don’t I?” Gerry laughs. “Once we’ve reunited our charges, I’ll take you wherever you want to go.”

It’s safe to say that by this point, you’ve replayed last Saturday’s date in your mind about sixty thousand times. Yet, despite your near-constant analysis, you find that you’re no more prepared for today’s date than before.
Perhaps it has something to do with the way it was described last week, giving you a little insight to how different this date would be compared to the relaxed atmosphere before.
Classic. Romantic. Picture perfect.
Your mind races with the possibilities; heaven knows that could be any of the boys. But you can’t help but expect one in particular to appear on your doorstep.
You shuffle back and forth before your mirror, triple checking your reflection. Jungkook texted you earlier this week with some instructions.
Dresscode was set to casual-nice. Whatever that means.
Make sure you’ve got your T-money card, which gives you access to the Subway.
Your green sweater vest is tucked neatly into your black skirt, giving you a posh academia vibe that you’ve honestly been dying to try out for a while. Hair falling in thick ringlets around your shoulders, the look is complete with black suede boots that only extend up to your ankle.
“Oh yeah,” you grin at your reflection. “I look good.”
And just there, resting atop the sleeves of your turtleneck, sits Hobi’s bracelet. The word ‘jagi’ is facing the ceiling, which is enough to soften your smile, remembering Hobi’s sweet date.
You’d gotten Jungkook’s permission to send a little message to Hobi, thanking him profusely for the date. It’d been fun to get to chat with him for a minute, already missing him. If you’re honest with yourself, you miss hanging out with all of them. It’s only been a couple of weeks since you were last all together, but it feels like months.
The upside to this Saturday is the fact that (after you’d sent some choice texts to Jungkook), you were given a time as to when your date would appear. Which is why you’re sitting on the edge of your seat at six o’clock ticks ever closer, waiting for the tell-tale knock on the door.
Every time a car turns onto your street, you’re leaping up to peek out the window, holding your breath until it passes by. However, this time you find yourself nearly passing out as a sleek black car rolls to a stop in front of your house.
You lose all ability to think straight when Kim Taehyung steps out of the car, straightening his beige cable knit sweater and puffing his cheeks out as he exhales. His black hair tumbles into his eyes, just long enough to brush up against his brows and make him brush it away.
Stumbling back from the window before he can see you spying on him, you bring a hand up to your chest.
“Ok, ok,” you rush to compose yourself. “Holy-”
A happy knock on your door cuts you off, and the only thing you can hope for is that you don’t say something stupid within the first sixty seconds of this date. If you can make past the first sixty seconds, you should be good, right?
Right?
You don’t have time to ponder as you force yourself to take a deep breath and open up the door. Sure enough, there stands Taehyung. Looking like he just stepped out of a French renaissance painting, complete with a smile.
A smile that’s meant for you, you realize with no shortage of shock. Grinning at you while he tilts his head to one side, his hair falls across his face from it’d been semi-parted.
“Hi, my name is Kim Taehyung,” he taps his heels together and extends his hand out. As he swoops into a bow, you can’t help the giggle the bubbles up at the silly scene before you. Gently placing your hand in his, you watch with wide eyes as he brings it to his lips. Planting a soft kiss to your knuckles, he looks up at you from behind his hair. “And you are?”
At this point, you’ve realized that there’s no stopping the mad blush crawling up your neck. Attempting to shake it off with a laugh, you shake your head.
“Are you lost or something?”
Taehyung gasps, stepping back and nearly tumbling down the stairs. “C’mon!” He groans, his smile never faltering. “I was trying to be classy!”
Shrugging, you grab your bag equipped with the essentials (keys, chapstick, mints...more mints), and lock the door behind you. Linking your arm through Taehyung’s and delighting in the momentary surprise that graces his features, you smile up at him.
“Where to, Mr. Kim?”
“Ah! That’s better.” The two of you make it to the car, Taehyung opening the passenger side before hustling over to the driver’s side. Once he’s in and buckled up, he answers your question. “Choose a number between one and ten.” Coming to stop at a stop sign, he looks to you expectantly.
“One.”
He raises his brows, making a show of turning the blinker on to signal turning right. “Good choice. We’ll get there in about...twelve minutes.” You nod, smiling softly. “How have you been?”
“Good. It’s been weird, not getting to hang out with everyone,” you admit. Tae hums in agreement.
“Yeah, it’s been weird not seeing you around the house. What have you been up to?”
The two of you get lost in conversation, relating your most recent horror stories from work or your classes. Taehyung listens raptly, snorting when you mention that you considered bringing your homework with you on the date.
“Seriously!” You laugh. “There’s so much of it. I swear, my professors have all ganged up on me.”
Tae turns into a closed off parking lot, swiping a small card in front of the monitor and pulling forward when the gates swing open. “Well, I’m glad you didn’t. Hopefully I keep you entertained enough to keep you from doing homework,” he teases.
You gape at the huge building before you, the architectural design enough to have your mouth running dry. It looks like it was taken straight out of ancient Greece, the pillars stretching up high and boasting chiseled divots. Leading to the entrance is a path of hanging wisteria, the soft purple petals swaying in the breeze.
In fact, if you hadn’t currently been sitting in a car that was definitely a product of the 21st century, you would have thought that you’d accidentally time-traveled.
Taehyung’s soft chuckle brings you back to reality, and you watch as he throws the car in park and rushes around to open your door before you even have time to twitch a muscle. You find yourself torn between gaping at the building and the man in front of you, as he extends a hand out to you and pulls you out of the car.
“What is this place?” You ask, afraid to even blink for fear of everything disappearing. Tae gently links your arm through his, which in retrospect was probably a good idea. Heaven knows you’re at risk of wandering off and never returning.
The evening sky does wonders for Taehyung, the sleepy golden sunlight settling over him. “It’s a project that’s been in the works for a long time, actually. They’re bringing together different artworks - some are replicas that they’ve been permitted to use - from all over the world. The best of the best, all in one place.” He runs a hand through his hair, looking up as you enter the small tunnel of hanging wisteria. “It’s not open to the public yet, they just finished moving the final pieces last week.”
You blink, looking up at one of your closest friends with awe. Squeezing his arm, you take a moment to pause and look around at all the beautiful wisteria.
“I’m friends with some of the curators here,” Tae explains when he catches your eye. “They said we could have a look around...if you want to…?”
In response, you wiggle out of his grasp and take off toward the entrance, Taehyung laughing and hurrying after you.
The art museum is, in a word, massive. The two of you fall into a companionable silence as you take in the artwork, occasionally wandering away from each other to get a closer look at something. Every so often Taehyung will call your name, motioning for you to look at a piece he especially likes.
There’s a point where Taehyung is trying to explain the difference between the replicas and the real oil paintings. “See, this one doesn’t have the same kind of sheen, so it’s obviously fake.” He reaches out to touch it, but freezes as soon as his fingers touch the painting.
“What?” You ask, craning your neck to see. He turns to face you with a horrified expression.
“It’s real.”
You choke a laugh, seeing the way he slowly removes his hands from the painting as though afraid to set off a bomb. “You’re joking.”
He shakes his head, looking up and down the hallway before whispering to you. “Run. They’ll kill me if they find out that I touched that thing with my bare hands. It’s like...three hundred years old or something.”
“Wha-”
“Split up!” He hisses, taking off down the opposite end of the corridor. Heart pounding even as you laugh, you run the other way. Taehyung’s laugh bounces off the walls, only making you laugh even more.
It doesn’t take long before the sun has dipped below the horizon and the two of you find yourselves in a spot dedicated to different sculptures. Sitting down on the bench in front of them, you realize just how long you’ve been up and running around.
“Wow,” you breathe out, Taehyung grunting in agreement. “So you weren’t caught?”
“Not yet, at least.” He fidgets a little beside you before speaking again. “Actually, there’s one more thing left to do here.”
You glance over at him, delighted to see that his hair has somehow grown even fluffier over the course of the date. “What is it?”
“Let me show you.” He hops up, leading the way to the end of the corridor. He enters a small room that’s completely empty save for a white backdrop and a camera.
He walks to the camera, making sure it’s on before gesturing for you to walk before the backdrop.
“Think of it like one giant photo booth,” he explains. “Pose, and I’ll choose a backdrop for you.”
You chew on your lip, feeling a little awkward as you stand before the camera. “What should I do? I’m not used to people taking pictures of me.”
Taehyung frowns. “What do you mean? I take pictures of you all the time.”
Against the start white backdrop, there’s no chance he doesn’t see your blush. “No, er...not like that. I’m not used to posing.”
“Oh.” He steps back, crossing his arms. “Just...smile?”
He snaps a few photos before rushing over to a small printer. You wander over as well, laughing when you see what’s become of your photos.
There you are, smiling awkwardly where Mona Lisa usually sits in her painting. “Oh, that’s horrible.”
“Da Vinci would love it,” Taehyung objects.
“Here, I’ll take your picture.” You run over to the camera while Taehyung steps up front, placing both hands on his hips while looking off into the distance. Selecting the ‘Starry Night’ background, you take the picture.
“Oooh, very nice!” Tae croons when he sees the photo. “But I want both of us in this.”
“What do you mean, both? There’s only enough room for one-”
“We’ll make it work,” Taehyung says as he drags you in front of the camera. Fiddling with it for a moment, he turns back to you. “Ok, it’s set to take four photos in a row. Stay still.”
“How are you going to…?” Your words fade out as a light in the camera begins to blink, counting down. Taehyung comes around you, slipping his arms around your waist as he rests his chin on your shoulder.
Just as the camera flashes for the first photo, Taehyung decides to try his hand at tickling you mercilessly.
You squeal, trying to get away but unable to as Tae keeps his iron-like grip on you. “Stay still!” He scolds in a serious tone, even as a smile is pushing its way onto his lips.
“S-stop!” You can hardly breathe as the attack continues and the camera flashes again. “Tae! You horrible human being-”
Suddenly he drops the attack, standing up straight and smiling at the camera. You take the opportunity just as the final flash goes off to shove him, laughing maniacally. He shouts, stumbling backward dramatically. Taking the temporary distraction to your advantage, you hurry over to where the pictures are being printed. As each photo comes out, you can hardly hold back your laughter.
Picking up the first photo, taken just as Taehyung had decided to attack you, you turn around to face him. “Look at how evil you look here!”
He saunters over, a lazy smile on his face. “Oh-ho, classic.”
Sure enough, the other photos are just as entertaining, although you can’t help but groan at the second photo which shows you with a mixture of laughter and annoyance as Taehyung fights a smile. “Oof, this one isn’t the most flattering…”
“Does that mean I get to keep it?” Taehyung asks quietly, taking the photo from your hands and looking at it closely. “You look cute.”
You blink, but shrug it off. Taehyung has always been a bit more forthcoming with his flirtatious manner, but it’s just now that you realize there was actually some sort of truth behind all of those silly remarks over the past few years.
Huh.
Taehyung checks the time, looking up at you with wide eyes. “Oh, we have to hurry!”
“Why?” You manage to ask before Taehyung takes off in a brisk walk. He grabs your hand, giving you no choice but to try to keep up.
He doesn’t directly answer your question. “You brought your T-money, right?”
“Yeah...but why?”
Tumblr media
“Why do I feel like we’re going to get in trouble for this?”
“We won’t. I will.” Taehyung doesn’t look the least bit bothered as he slips a hat on over his hair. “That is, if we get caught.”
“So no pressure.” You say sarcastically, wishing you had some sort of invisibility cloak.
You never knew that the subway could be such a rush. It’s a Saturday night, people are filing in and out of the Subway at a rapid pace as they chat jovially together. Taehyung keeps his head down, attempting to blend in and completely failing.
“Tae, you’re going to be recognized.”
He shrugs. “I do this all the time. Hasn’t happened yet.”
You furrow your brows. “You do? I had no idea.”
“It’s nice to pretend to be normal every once in a while,” he confesses, looking down at his phone. “Just don’t tell anyone. It’s a secret I’ve managed to keep for years.”
“I won’t. Promise.”
Pulling up the timer app on his phone, he grins mischievously at you. “Ok. We have 60 minutes to get to three different places.” He holds up his phone for you to see. “First, we’re going to that night market you hit up all the time to get Tteok-bokki, which you love probably way too much-”
“Hey! It’s a healthy obsession!” You defend yourself, only earning an eyebrow raise in return.
“Whatever you say, weirdo. Then, we’re going to that walnut shop - you know the one at the end of the line?”
“We’re going to a walnut shop?”
“Yeah. Namjoon’s got this new obsession with them, so I promised I’d pick some up for him”
You snort. “Ok, and the last spot?”
Taehyung lowers his phone, toggling the timer to 60 minutes and looking at you and chuckling. “It’s a surprise. You ready?”
“Wait, how on earth are we supposed to get to all of these places within an hour?” You ask, incredulous. “Especially if we’re stopping to eat or buy stuff?”
Finger hovering over the start button, Taehyung looks around the busy subway station. “We hurry.” With that, he links his hand with yours and begins the timer. “Run!”
Taking off like thieves on the run, you swipe your T-money card and hurtle past the barrier, rushing to see which line to take. “It’s the red line, right?” You ask, roles switching as it’s now you dragging Taehyung behind you. “Hurry! It’s already here!”
Rushing over to where the red line train is just pulling in, you leap through the doors as soon as they open. Taehyung is right behind you, and the two of you stand off to the side with your faces down and trying to hide your giggles. He leans down to whisper something in your ear, your head automatically tilting to hear him better.
“Keep an eye out for our stop,” he urges, squeezing your hand. You nod, remaining on high alert even as you’re bursting with excitement. You know that if anybody found out that you and Taehyung were out here, looking very much like a couple, you would be toast.
The rush goes straight to your head, pumping you full of adrenaline as your stop approaches. A thought hits you, and you hurry to voice it before you have to jump out and run.
“How are we going to get you through the night market without being recognized?”
“Oh,” Taehyung angles his body toward the door, preparing. “I talked with the owner of the stall you go to. He promised to have the food ready and waiting for us, we just have to meet him in the back.”
You still have no idea how you’re going to make it through the market without being recognized, but there’s no more time for questions as the train slows to a stop and the doors slide open. In a single heartbeat the two of you leap out and take off toward the stairs that will lead you out into the night air.
It’s embarrassing just how much you’re panting by the time you reach the top of the stairs, but you shrug it off as you see the huge crowd mulling outside of the market. Without giving you a single second to doubt, Taehyung plunges into the crowd.
The two of you weave in and out, a startled laugh coming from you as the two of you pass by a stall filled with BTS merchandise. Taehyung hesitates for a moment, almost looking like he wants to stop in, but thinks better of it.
The people around you are so focused on the different stalls and their night out that they pay you no mind as you pass by, bumping into people with every step you take. If only they knew that it was Kim Taehyung bumping into them.
He never lets go of your hand as you make your way to your favorite food stall, for fear of losing you in the crowd. Glancing back at you, Taehyung shouts above the din.
“It’s been almost eight minutes!”
You nod, once again wondering how on earth you’re going to make it to all the places Taehyung has planned. Your mouth runs a little dry as you see the long line of people waiting at the food stall, all of them wanting a taste of the delicious tteok-bokki. Going in a wide circle around the crowd, the two of you end up behind the stall where it’s surprisingly empty.
Taehyung wraps on the back entrance, loud enough to be heard over the loud night. A moment later an elderly man sticks his head out, eyes crinkling with a smile as he sees the two of you.
“Ah, I was just wondering when you’d be showing up! Let me grab your order.” He winks at you guys before disappearing back into the little stall. You take a moment to breathe, looking up at the starry sky. Taehyung joins you, smiling softly.
“Why 60 minutes?” You ask quietly. Taehyung shrugs.
“I make this run whenever I can,” he responds quietly. “I’ve never been able to do it in less than an hour. Thought that it’d be fun to try to break the record with you.”
You laugh quietly. “How come I didn’t know that about you? Why didn’t you invite me before?”
Taehyung runs a hand through his hair, his other hand still hanging loosely in yours. “The pact.” When you look at him with a confused expression, he goes on. “Think about it: have you ever hung out with any of us just one on one? At least, intentionally?”
You frown, running through your memories. “I mean, yeah, but-”
“Intentionally, though.”
Automatically your thoughts run to the memory of Hobi and that night you’d vented in his car for a solid two hours, tears running down your face. Or that time you’d gone shopping with Taehyung, that was intentional wasn’t it?
“We went shopping that one time,” you say.
“Yeah, but that was an emergency of sorts. Remember? You’d spilled on your shirt and had an interview for your internship soon,” he reminds you. “I took you shopping and dropped you off after.”
You remember that, but there were other times that you just spent time with one of the boys on purpose, right? Taehyung sees your thoughts, giving you another example.
“And that time you sat and talked with Hobi in his car for hours? He’d seen you walking and offered to give you a ride. That obviously wasn’t planned.”
You blink. “How did you know about that?”
Taehyung turns a little pink under the starlight, realizing that he wasn’t supposed to know that. “Hey, it’s not my fault. He wouldn’t shut up about it. But that’s not the point!” He quickly tries to backtrack, mussing his hair yet again.
“Right,” you sigh. “So what does that have to do with the pact? And what does the pact have to do with you and this weird route of yours?” You laugh, Taehyung chuckling nervously along with you.
He opens his mouth to respond, but at that moment the door opens and the same old man appears with a bag of your food. “Here you go!” He happily hands it over to Taehyung, who thanks him and hands him the money and thanks him profusely. You also thank him, smiling warmly.
As soon as the door shuts again, Taehyung is leading you back out into the crowd. He keeps a firm grip on the food, and you stare at it longingly. The two of you manage to make it out of the crowd without any complications, except for the fact that you had to drag Tae away from the merchandise booth.
Descending the stairs to the subway, you glance over at the food again. “Are we gonna eat that, or…?”
He squints at the screen that shows the different lines and arrival times. “We have four minutes before the yellow line gets here.” Stopping at the bottom of the stairs and standing off to the side, he hands you your food, chuckling as you tear into it. He shares it with you, devouring the food at an alarming rate.
It’s embarrassing to say that the two of you finish it with thirty seconds to spare.
“Wow,” you groan, rubbing your stomach as Tae throws the container away. “We’re messed up.”
He chuckles at you, checking the timer. “That, we are. But it was good, right?”
“Ugh, so good. I swear, that place is magic.”
This time, instead of running to the platform, you waddle. You get there just before the doors close, sliding in between the door and pole, which you cling to. Taehyung stands across from you, resting against the pole as well and smiling.
“Ready to go buy some walnuts?”
The question has you giggling. “Definitely.”
You fall into a comfortable silence, waiting for your stop to arrive. The walnut shop sits on the other end of the line, one of the final stops. It takes a few minutes to get there, each second ticking down. Once there’s only one stop left before you have to get off, you ask Taehyung to check the timer.
He raises his brows. “We’re making pretty good time. Thirty minutes left.”
“Nice!” You give him a high five, smiling simply because he is. “Let’s get these walnuts!”
Nevermind the fact that people listening in to your conversation think you’re crazy.
Once you make it to your stop, the two of you settle for a brisk walk rather than running. Together, you walk down the street hand in hand while trying to find the walnut shop.
“You never finished explaining that thing about the pact,” you recall. You’d nearly forgotten amongst the rush of eating and the sleepy subway ride after. Taehyung glances down at you, almost looking a little bummed out that you remembered.
“Oh...right.” He stops on the corner and presses the crosswalk sign. “Well, that’s one of the things about the pact. I never invited you to come along with me because I couldn’t. It doesn’t allow for intentional one-on-one activities.”
“You know how weird that is, right?”
He snorts. “Yeah, I know. But that’s how it is, I guess. All of those other times you were with any of us, alone, it wasn’t on purpose. It just worked out like that. You know, something about keeping everything even. And, spending too much time alone with you would probably lead to breaking the pact.”
Nodding, you tuck this information away for further examination. “Sounds like you guys thought of everything.”
“Almost.”
“Ok,” you begin to cross the quiet street, this side of Seoul starkly different in comparison with the busy night market. “So what does this route have to do with any of that? Why did you even start doing this in the first place? It’s...all over the place.”
Taehyung chews on the inside of his cheek. “Well...oh! We’re here!”
You roll your eyes as Taehyung bounds up the stairs of the walnut shop, which appears to be nearly closed. Why they’re still open at this time of night is beyond you. Do they really have people coming out to buy walnuts at all hours of the night?
The little shop is warm, and the young girl behind the counter looks anything but shocked as Taehyung enters. She immediately leans down to grab a small bag, placing it in front of her.
“Just the one bag?”
You pause to wonder just how many times Taehyung has frequented this shop for the employees to be so familiar with him. The thought makes you smile, picturing Taehyung sneaking in here late at night just to feed Namjoon’s odd walnut addiction.
“Just the one should be fine,” Tae responds, looking at you over his shoulder with a warm look. You don’t notice it, lost in your own thoughts as you wander over to a display.
Once he’s finished with the transaction, he wanders over to you. “Looks like we might just make it.”
You turn around, looking at him expectantly. “How much time is left?”
“Sixteen minutes. Let’s go,” he holds out his arm for you, which you rest your hand on the inner crook of his elbow. Bidding the girl goodnight, the two of you wander back out into the night.
“Soooo...where to next?”
Taehyung shakes his head. “I told you, it’s a surprise.”
The subway on this end of the city is much less crowded, it’s easy to find the blue line and hop on. You realize that you’re heading back to a stop fairly close to the night market, which makes you wonder.
“Why’d we go to the end of the line before this?” You ask. “It would’ve been much quicker to go here second.”
“Because,” Taehyung sits beside you, stretching his legs out. “It’s a spot that you can’t rush in. It’s meant to be the final destination.”
Giggling a little, you nudge him. “That sounds a little morbid.”
Tumblr media
The Han River glistens from your viewpoint atop the bridge. Sitting next to Taehyung, your feet dangling off the edge, you take a deep breath.
“I see why this had to be the final stop,” you say as you breathe out. The entire Han River lays at your feet, the city lights bouncing off the surface and creating a dazzling atmosphere to rival that of the stars above you. People walk along the edge or ride bikes, their small figures making you realize just how high up you are.
“Mmm,” Taehyung hums beside you. He leans back, glancing over at you as you take in the view. “This is always the last stop.”
You take a moment to allow the sounds of the night wrap around you, tilting your head up to the stars and watching them wink down at you. A profound contentment settles over you, a smile playing on your lips.
“And my last question?” You mumble out. “What’s so special about this route?”
The quiet moment seems to be enough to urge Taehyung to finally answer you. He sits up, admiring the way you look, sitting here on top of the world.
“About a year ago, we all talked about the normal, everyday things you like to do. What we would like to do.”
“I remember,” you muse. “You guys were talking about what you’d do if you weren’t famous. Romanticizing the mediocre.”
“Right.” He slings his arms over the railing, looking out over the people enjoying their Saturday night. “You talked about how you always go to that night market to get tteok-bokki. You basically swore by that one stall, it was hilarious. But you looked so...I don’t know, I just remember thinking, I’ve never seen someone so happy about some cheap night market food. But it made me happy. And then you said that you like to grab your food and head out to the Han River. Enjoy the evening with some good food and a view.”
A slight breeze picks up, ruffling Taehyung’s hair. He hardly notices, wearing an adorable look of concentration as he continues. “And that just seemed...I don’t know, it became this thing for me. Those late nights at work or when we were away, I’d always stop and wonder if you’d gotten to do what made you so happy. But then, I realized that it wasn’t enough for me to just sit and wonder. I wanted to- I wanted...to be there with you.”
Your breath hitches in your throat as you catch sight of the faraway look in his eyes. How many times had he stopped and wondered if you had gotten to do something that made you happy? Sitting beside this man who is such a force for good, you find that you are entirely out of your element.
“So, whenever I had a chance in the evenings, I’d make up an excuse about picking up some more walnuts for Namjoon’s stash, and I’d head out. They told me to be back in an hour, hence the sixty minutes. But I’d take the train to the night market, go straight to that stall and pick up some tteok-bokki. I knew that I couldn’t just call you up and ask to go with you, and I was kind of selfish and didn’t want the other guys to come along. It was...I don’t know, I wanted it to be our thing. So I’d go there and hope I’d run into you. Make it look like an accident, so we could hang out. Just the two of us.” He laughs quietly to himself. “I sound like a stalker, don’t I?”
You only manage to shake your head, at a complete loss for words. Taehyung continues on, feeling the need to get it all out.
“In my mind, I thought that it would at least take you about fifteen or so minutes to get from the night market to the Han, so I’d run down to grab the walnuts and then head up here,” he gestures to the bridge. “And I’d look out and see if I could spot you. Maybe run down to meet you, pretending to bump into you. Give me...an excuse to see you.”
Taehyung glances over at you for a minute, looking a little embarrassed. You stare back, the shock evident on your face.
“Really?” It’s the only word you manage to get out. He smiles gingerly, huffing out a breath.
“Really. Does it creep you out?”
You snort, scooting over a little closer. Taehyung instinctively wraps an arm around your shoulder, pulling you against him.
“No.”
“No?”
Taking a deep breath, you take a leap. “Am I allowed to tell you that I sometimes wished I’d run into you?”
Taehyung tucks a loose strand of hair behind your ear, looking at you with an indescribable emotion. “I don’t think you should.”
You frown. “Why not?”
The moon and the stars as your only witness, Taehyung gives you a long look before leaning down to press a kiss to your forehead. He lingers for a few seconds, his warm lips reminding you of spring after a bitter winter.
When he pulls away, he gazes down at you and you just know that he’s memorizing this moment. Tucking it away for a rainy day, similar to the rain clouds behind his eyes. “I’m scared of hoping.”
In the span of five syllables, he’s completely shattered your heart. It’s now that you recognize that look in his eyes.
How many nights has he sat up here, waiting for you to come along? Hoping that you’d bump into him at the night market, delighted to see him?
Hope can be just as devastating as it is uplifting.
Taehyung sees how you’re dying to reassure him, dying to just give your heart over to him at that moment. He knows it, sees how it could play out. But before you can open your mouth, he’s stopping you.
“For now, let’s just enjoy the view and try to stay warm,” he murmurs, pulling you impossibly closer. You rest your head against his shoulder, heart still aching from his small confession. “Don’t worry, jagiya. Just remember to have fun, ok? You’ve still got five dates, don’t forget that.”
How could you?

Time ticks by all too quickly as the two of you remain snuggled up together atop the bridge. Eventually you fall into a quiet conversation, Taehyung chatting happily about how he had a mini crisis on night when he came on this route and Namjoon complained about having not finished the walnuts from last night. He’d had to find some other sort of enticing treat that would act as a cover for him.
“When it comes down to it,” he says as the two of you enter the subway and find a seat. “I didn’t want the boys to find out, because I didn’t want them to think I was going behind their backs. They all deserve a chance, and me trying to find a way to bend the rules wouldn’t have gone over well.”
You marvel at how perfectly his hand fits in yours, sighing contentedly as the subway rumbles on. “You always have been a rule-breaker.”
You’re exhausted from having run all over Seoul, nearly falling asleep as you get back to Taehyung’s car. He grins at you, turning on the heater and beginning the drive back to your apartment. Your eyes struggle to remain open, slipping closed every few seconds.
“Sleep, jagiya,” Taehyung urges. “I’ll wake you up when we get there.”
“N-no,” you say between yawns. “I’m fine.”
Taehyung chuckles to himself when you fall asleep about thirty seconds later. The sound drifts into your dreams, where you dream of art museums and the Han river.
Needless to say, you’re a bit disappointed to be woken up from your beautiful dream when Taehyung opens up the passenger side door and crouches before you. He can’t help but laugh at how adorable you look, completely disoriented and staring at him like you can’t quite place where you’ve seen him before.
“Hey,” he whispers. “We’re home.”
Gently unbuckling your seatbelt, Taehyung helps you out of the car and only continues to laugh as you wrap your arms around his waist and bury your head in his chest.
“I’m so tired,” you groan. “I wanna go to bed.”
“Well, you can. You just have to unlock your door first, jagi.”
Somehow, in your half-asleep state you manage to fish your keys out of your bag. Taehyung helps you unlock the door, swooping in to help you when you nearly trip over your doorway.
“Woah, watch where you’re going,” he teases. Suddenly the world turns sideways as Tae places his hands under your knees and around your waist, literally sweeping you off your feet. “How about we get you to bed in one piece?”
Some small, semi-conscious part of your brain is currently screaming about how embarrassing yet attractive this entire situation is, but for the life of you, you can’t tell why. Instead, you opt to nuzzle in a little closer to Tae’s sweater as he uses his foot to kick the door shut.
“I love this sweater,” you mumble, eyes falling shut again. “You look so good in this sweater, did you know that?”
“Oh...thanks. And yes, that’s why I wore it.”
You hiss, swatting at his chest. “That was very narcissistic of you.”
“You’re too tired to walk, but you’re using words like narcissistic?” He shoots back. Making his way through the dark house, he enters your room and sets you down on the edge of the bed. You sit up straight, watching as his silhouette turns on your bedside lamp. Squinting at him, he crouches down before you, resting a light hand on your knee.
“Thank you,” you whisper.
“You’re welcome,” he whispers back. “You need anything before I go?”
Always finding a way to push the limits, you smirk down at him. “Are kisses really off-limits- ow!” You rub your knee where he just flicked it, appalled at him as he straightens up.
“Don’t get greedy,” he teases with a raised brow. Heading out of the room, he turns back to look at you from the doorway. “Goodnight.”
It’s this moment that you memorize. The way the light from the lamp barely reaches him, his dark hair a little messy and a tired smile on his face. The way he leans up against your door, looking for all the world like he belongs here.
“Goodnight, Tae.”
Your ears strain to hear his footsteps, a fissure forming in your heart as you hear him closing the door and driving off into the night. Eventually, sleep takes over.
Even as you dream, the feeling of being wrapped up in Taehyung’s arms while sitting above the Han River lingers.
