Tony had never sewn anything in his life.

But what was he doing?

Sewing an eye back onto a four-year-old’s lovie.

They had set up, what was almost like a small surgical station in their home. The coffee table was strewn with needles and thread and everything Tony could scrounge up from boxes of his mother’s old things that Tony had always kept hidden away, with those memories and nightmares a like. The things that brought back memories he had long ago chosen to forget. But it was an emergency, and Peter was kneeling beside him sniffling heavily. 

It was an accident. The kid had plucked Remy’s eye out and Tony had thought the guilt was going to kill his son.

“You know…he’s going to be fine,” Tony reassured, as he flinched, stabbing himself for the umpteenth time in his finger, “Even if we weren’t reattaching the eye, some people live without an eye. Some people live without both eyes! I just think…it’s going to be fine, Peter.”

Peter’s lower lip trembled, “It won’t! Cause he’s a rabbit, and he’s gotta see, Daddy, to hop and be with other rabbits!”

Right. Couldn’t argue with that logic.

It was when the last press of the needle occurred and Tony finally tied off the knot that he allowed optimism to take hold. Right…maybe he didn’t suck so bad after all. He held up the rabbit, smiling down at the boy sitting crossed-legged beside him before he held out the rabbit, “Well, looks like Remy will be hopping with rabbits for years to come. Just…you know try not to tug too hard, or we might have to make an eye patch next time.”

Peter’s eyes lit up almost immediately and his hands shot out, cradling Remy close to his chest. Tony almost snorted at how the boy hugged the stuffed animal as if it were an alive creature or human being and Tony remembered that night, months ago, when Peter had woken him in that hotel room. He had remembered the horror and confusion surrounding it, and sure he still didn’t exactly understand what Remy was useful for, but Peter loved the little ‘creature’. Tony reached out, musing some of Peter’s curls.

Peter looked up at him, and tugged his father’s sleeve. Tony leaned down as Peter cupped his hands together, as if to tell a secret but there was no one around so he never understood why Peter did that…

“You sew better than Pepper.”

Tony almost cackled, remembering his Christmas present that Peter had promised hadn’t been sewn by him.

His mouth upturned widely.

“Better not let her hear that, kid. We’ll both regret it.”

following people who are fans of cartoons or like, children’s games i’ve never heard of is especially weird bc i’ll see screencaps and art and be like “yeah, that looks normal, cartoony artstyle talking animals sure” and then they’ll reblog a meta post that’s like “Princess Kitten was kidnapped and tortured by her political enemies for two years before she broke out on her own and found the protagonist, Adorabelle Sweetie, who had already technically died twice by that point and had zero friends or allies after coming to this world, and had already learned not to trust anyone because she could be brutally backstabbed at any time, like she’d already seen happen to her best friend who’s now trapped in an eternal hell dimension” and i’m like cool. what? and then the next post about it will be like a fart joke
