I'm composing this semi-late night (for me at least) ask to inform you that I listened to your total swarm for young men album a couple days ago and I very much liked it. this was surprising to me as the album was not anything like my normal taste in music and I was not expecting to like it (because let's be real I got here from tumblr) but fortunately it's both very very weird and filled with absolute bangers so gj 10/10 5 stars. since this is so far outside of my normal arena I would also like to ask what genre/s you would say the water gun water gun sky attack stuff is and what you would say your major influences are as a musician? au revoir

tyvm this warms my heart.... It has always been my explicit goal to make weird things people are surprised they like, and to encourage people to like stranger music

usually people seem to put me in the "post-punk" or "art punk" genres which are very bad names for genres but they work fine. my sound design is influenced by a lot of glitch / experimental electronic stuff, because I think the current state of the art in post-punk is stuck on the ol guitar-bass-drums sound which is boring

biggest songwriting influences are protomartyr (listen to relatives in descent) and tropical fuck storm (listen to Braindrops). Biggest sound design influence and fav band of all time is autechre, who do mind-bending glitchy things so far in the future nobody else is even close (listen to literally anything they have made after 2012)

i will release a new "water gun water gun sky attack" album next year. it is about eight people all individually deciding to kill their landlord, who is the same landlord for all of them. they all succeed but at the end he is apparently still alive so they all think they have failed.

it asks questions like "is it okay to focus on killing your landlord at the expense of spending time with your significant other?" and "what if being a landlord is a medical condition caused by an exotic parasite?" Nobody will like this album. I don't know what to call this album.

It is from "I DO NOT LIGHT UP" off of "Gay Joke" (2019) which is about how you become INCREASINGLY DISPOSABLE to the "GAY COMMUNITY" the less MASCULINE you are.

I made the lyric video by splicing together a collage of Australian anti-gay marriage political ads (which are sampled in the song) into the form of LARGE BURLY MEN FLEXING. if you squint at this video you can see their pectoral muscles bulging

favorite lyric of mine that i've ever written is probably "i'm young and vivacious / inspect my dimensions / i'll live in your nightstand / i'll eat your attention." i dont think i'll top that

The response I've gotten to that question seems to amount to this being the general consensus. Especially because yeah, even though I'm from the US, I'd like to keep my language fairly global since a lot of users aren't. Color can be as much a cultural description as a physical description in some ways, implying traits that stand out amongst regional majorities even if they look pretty similar (Roma in Europe, Irish in England, Ainu in Japan, etc). I've seen a mixed reaction to it from people for whom it is a descriptor-- some say they prefer it, some say it makes them uncomfortable, but if there's not much of a better term I suppose I'll stick with it.

I found this artist a year or so ago and in my opinion this dude needs a lot more listeners, real talk. It's very ambiguous music as far as genre goes... if "electroacoustic" makes sense I guess that's how I'd pitch it.

In my mind, Trouble Sleeping? is his best album with the namesake track being my favorite. All of it's worth listening to however so get on it shithead.

mastering engineer told me the electronics here were "wack as hell" and clipping all over the place and i had to tell her that the reason they were fucked up is because i sampled heavily from youtube videos documenting pokemon cries from pokemon stadium 2, and those are in awful audio quality. no high end at all. she was like: "oh. that makes sense. i guess i know what to do now" the "charlie" here is Charles Ives, american composer who strongly associated dissonance with masculinity and soft, tonal, pastoral music with "sissies." big homophobe. a jock, too. i could go back in time and seduce him easily
