deviation from the usual but the brainrot has set in and i need to set the record straight:

the call of duty character König is supposedly austrian, not german.

Austria and Germany are 2 different countries. Yes, we both speak german. However, there are differences and to treat Germany and Austria as interchangeable is rude. It's like pretending like Canada and the US are the same.

Also, the voice actor for König has the wrong dialect. The VA has a westgerman dialect while König is supposedly from further south. Dialects and generally language are incredibly important to german speakers and we can easily tell that something is off.

At last, there is a bit of a mix-up which military force König is part of. As a presumably austrian citizen it is unlikely that he is part of the german Bundeswehr which requires the german citizenship. He wears the Austrian flag on his uniform and there is little to indicate that he became a naturalised german citizen at some point so this whole thing does not add up.

Artist SEAK Claus Winkler: A reason why I became a artist, is that due my family from my fathers side where refugees from eastprussia. The flew from the sowjet army, with 2 horse carriages, there farm in east Prussia close to the border from Lithuania/ Lettland. I’ve never liked the industrial parts of the Rhineland, Iam born in cologne, 1974. The ugly invest architecture. A carpet bombing scared urban area, with almost know cultural identity and or beauty communicated, and or vibed by historical architecture. Although when playing with my playmobil being a child, I loved The medieval buildings, aswell the Wildwest town buildings. / narrative worlds I loved, I could think myself in. Added to that the cuddle furr, from my Guinea pig, all the other toys, vehicle models, graphic novels, books, tapes, etc which transported history, narratives, different ages, events, I started loving to eject with in atmospheres where could escape loveless boring westgerman city aesthetics. I can although lay on a couch, sitting in my bathtube, or in my studio reading a well, beautiful history book, to get with in that zone. And or painting, having a tea cup, a certain hoodie/ buttoned shirt, pullover, a wood brush. Just a few triggers/ signals with a that direction, and I get that cosy well being vibe. When painting a painting, or seeing a finished painting Iam happy with, I have the same thought process. Iam avoiding here the word ‘ feeling ‘. All good takes! (I love that you mentioned gay disco, because I also was thinking of the GDR abolishing the anti-homosexuality law FAR earlier than the FRG)

The only thing where I'd personally diverge is Gilbert being too resentful at the fall of the wall. I agree he'd be hesitant about a reunion, but the fact that the wall really came down because GDR Citizens wanted more freedom makes me think he'd be more excited that night. Like shit, this is not what I wanted, but I'll take it. It will only mean more freedom, right? Only when things start to spin out of control and everything happens way too sudden, he's hesistant.

But that's my personal two cents! I like your interpretation as well :)

Because I keep seeing people portray Gilbert’s GDR days as terrible because he lived with Ivan and wasn’t a nation anymore, I want to clear some things up.

Historically, Gilbert’s GDR days were not as horrible as the fandom often views it. He was not owned, enslaved, or imprisoned – he had autonomy, within reason of course, which is something the fandom (and canon) almost always fails to include when portraying GDR content; the GDR was fairly autonomous under the USSR; much more than the satellite states were allowed and was better off than most of them as well, the USSR also heavily supported them, and it had one of the largest/most stable economies of the Eastern Bloc. So historically speaking, Gilbert would be decently cozy at the very least. It wasn’t sunshine and rainbows, but it wasn’t the terrible torture that’s often portrayed.

Edited amendment: East Germany also had a whole culture of its own, so viewing Gilbert as just some enslaved minion of Ivan’s is not only demonizing Ivan as an abuser and painting Gilbert as a helpless victim of circumstance, but it is a view that ignores the rich history and culture that East Germany had, which Gilbert canonically gets nostalgic for. They have a word for it – Ostalgie; nostalgia for aspects of life in Communist East Germany.
