D O W A G E R D O E S I P P U D O Rooftop, Westfield Newmarket. First lunch with Lo the Dowager Allen this New Decade on the day Prince Harry and Meghan step down as “Senior Royals.” After recent excursions to Japan, Ippudo is where Dowager wants to park his derriere. Uncle has made his feelings known about Ippudo. Best Ramen but service lags. Dowager tells Uncle to get over himself - we’re here to have great ramen, not expect miracles on the service front. Our Ippin of Cucumber and Gyoza are fabulous. The Spicy Goma is slightly pickled cucumber topped with special chilli sauce, crunchy garlic & Sichuan pepper - For ramen Dowager had Karaka-Men and Uncle the Veggie Soba. The Karaka Men is thin & wavy ramen in Ippudo’s original tonkotsu broth served with simmered pork belly, bean sprouts, spring onions and topped with a spicy pork miso and roasted cashew garnish. Uncle’s Vegie Soba is served in original vegetable bouillon blended with porcini dashi. It’s all plant-based and thoroughly slurping good but Uncle found there was a bit of an oil slick rising to the surface. Ok, as Dowager points out, you don’t need inattentive waitstaff to fawn over you to enjoy good food. And said waitperson ran after Uncle with his phone which he had absentminded left on dining situ. Peony (mudan 牧丹) is the 'king of flowers'. It features prominently in Chinese history especially in the Tang Dynasty. The peony is a symbol of royalty and virtue. Uncle is excited. David Jones has opened at Westfield Broadway. It’s over 2 floors and brand spanking new. The displays all have a sheen, what’s on offer tempts the shopper in us all. Shop staff are all dressed in black. Uncle really wants to check out Paul Smith, which is stocked in Sydney and Melbourne stores. But disappointment sets in. There is a Paul Smith but it only stocks accessories. Uncle will not be shelling out $1030 for a black leather snatched, even though it has PS signature colours strap. Uncle had to stem his disappointment at the Majestic Tea Room, just beside David Jones. It was very frou frou. Then the ultimate embarrassment, Uncle couldn’t find his car and the 2 hours of parking is almost up. Information Conciege finds the floor Fiat LFD 888 is parked but not the exact spot. Back to Info twice by which time 2 hours had elapse and ticked over to $7. Uncle begs for pity and was given another free 1 hour.
