Seilbahnen faszinieren mich und normalerweise fahre ich gerne mit diesen Dingern irgend auf einen Berg hoch. Dabei habe ich – vor allem im Ausland – auch schon abenteuerliche Gondelfahrten erlebt. Aber hier in die Seilbahn rüber nach Dursey Island bin ich nicht eingestiegen – ich bin doch kein Schaf! Und auch nicht lebensmüde! Und zum Glück haben Schafe und Kühe hier ganz klar…

Children of Chernobyl: A Summer in Co. Cork

Back in July, 1994, eight years after the explosion at Chernobyl, a group of children from Belarus arrived in West Cork, Ireland to spend a summer with Irish families. The goal was simple: Strengthen the immune systems of these children affected by the disaster. The surprising outcome was the strength of the bonds made between two cultures.

Print Making : Elective Number One 

Print Making :  the activity or occupation of making pictures or designs by printing them from specially prepared plates or blocks. 

I absolutely Loved this elective. We were given the theme of “Home” for the two week block. The first thing that popped into my mind when i thought of my home was “The Farm”. Growing up on a vegetable farm is what i associate with home, I wasn’t much of a farmer but i enjoyed helping dad with the flowers over the spring and summer months. I didn’t like mud and getting dirty but spending time with dad is a memory i will treasure for a long time. My Mum’s boot are green, My dad’s wellies are black and mine are red. West Cork is my “Home”  

I printed my family’s wellies using lino. For the last few years its just my parents and i at home because my siblings have all moved out from West Cork. I dry pointed the fuschia in the background because West Cork’s symbol is the fuschia. The hedgerows are covered in the beautiful vibrant red and purple flower.
