UPHOLSTERY CLEANERS IN CHISWICK - CLEAN CARPETS
What do professionals use to clean upholstery?
Professionals typically use a variety of cleaning methods and products to clean upholstery, depending on the type of fabric and the nature of the stains. Here are some common tools and products used by professionals to clean upholstery:
Vacuum Cleaner: Before starting any cleaning process, professionals often use a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment to remove loose dirt, dust, and debris from the upholstery.
Steam Cleaners: Steam cleaning is a popular method for removing stains and dirt from upholstery. Professionals use steam cleaning machines that apply hot water and detergent to the fabric, and then extract the solution along with the dirt.
Upholstery Cleaning Machines: These machines are specifically designed for cleaning upholstery. They may use a combination of water, cleaning solutions, and powerful suction to lift dirt and stains from the fabric.
Cleaning Solutions: Professionals use specialized upholstery cleaning solutions that are appropriate for the type of fabric they are working with. These solutions are often pH-balanced to avoid damage to the fabric.
Spot Treatments: For tough stains, professionals may use spot treatments or stain removers designed for upholstery. It's essential to test these products in an inconspicuous area first to ensure they won't cause any damage.
Soft Brushes: Soft brushes are used to agitate the cleaning solution and loosen dirt from the upholstery without causing damage to the fabric.
Microfiber Cloths: Professionals may use microfiber cloths for gentle wiping and drying after the cleaning process.
Professional Cleaning Services: In some cases, individuals may hire professional upholstery cleaning services. These companies often have access to advanced equipment and cleaning solutions, providing a thorough and effective cleaning.
It's important to note that the choice of cleaning method and products depends on the specific type of upholstery fabric. Always check manufacturer recommendations and care labels before attempting to clean upholstery yourself, and consider consulting with professionals if you are unsure or dealing with delicate fabrics.

Article under the cut :-)
Penelope Wilton: ‘My street cred went up when I did Shaun of the Dead’
Sat 20 Jul 2024 15.00 CEST
I had a ghastly time at school. I was dyslexic, which was seen as backward at the time. The only person who took any notice of me was a very nice poetry teacher. I was good at learning poems, so I went in for reading competitions. I remember my mother jumping out of the car when I was about 10, after I’d won a cup, and saying to my two ghastly headmistresses: “See, she’s got a cup. She’s not a dunce!”
My sister, Rosemary, was a producer and documentary maker. She got me my first job as an extra who had varicose veins. These very serious makeup ladies put spaghetti down the backs of my legs, but nobody seemed to be happy with that. I got chatting to a cleaner during a coffee break who had marvellous varicose veins. I went up to the director – things were much more hierarchical in the 1960s – and said: “I’m sorry my legs aren’t any good, but the cleaner’s legs are wonderful.” Actresses always had a reputation for being difficult. As you get older you realise why: because they often had to deal with very difficult men. Acting is collaborative. You have to get on with people, play to your strengths – and wait until you get home to moan. I once got lost on the way to the theatre – the worst thing ever. I was driving to the West End way before satnavs, ran into a diversion, and got completely lost in north London. I parked the car, summoned a lift from this charming man and said, “If you can take me to the Almeida, I’ll get you a seat.” And he did.
My walls are covered in paintings. I like to buy one when I do a job that pays well. I bought a very nice painting when I did Doctor Who and a very nice painting when I did the Marigold Hotel films. I can tell which job has paid for which painting.
Shaun of the Dead brought me to a younger generation. My daughter was about 19 or 20 when it came out and my street cred with her friends went up astronomically. Much more than when I was doing The Cherry Orchard. I don’t really know the perks of being a Dame. But I did once want an enormous amount of rubbish collected outside in the road where I live. You know, when there’s a little pile, people add more and eventually a Hoover was dumped. So I rang the council and said, “This is Dame Penelope Wilton. Could you please get rid of the rubbish in my road?” So I thought I was doing a thing for the community, not just for myself. Life is short. I try to enjoy everything: sitting in the park, looking at the trees, seeing friends and family. I’ve got two grandchildren, my daughter and my sister. I enjoy going to concerts. We’re just waiting to book the Proms, but you have to go online and there’s usually 15,000 people ahead of you. Maybe I should pull the Dame card.

Day Fifteen - Candles @sapphicmicrofics
April Daily Series - 659 words
<<<Previous Parts OR Start Here
The curry shop they decided on was a little eatery tucked between a dry cleaners and a pharmacy. From the outside, it looked quaint and comfortable with a curved red awning over the entrance and hand-painted white flowers on the door. Inside, there was a stunning burgundy and gold colour scheme with a modern, glass chandelier that resembled a hundred little pieces of paper hanging from black stakes. Every table held lit candles and each place setting was elegantly set with a wine glass, water glass, folded cloth napkin, and silverware.
Marlene whistled low, so only Lily could hear it. “Wow, this place is posh.”
Lily nodded, eyes wide with surprise as she approached the host stand. As she requested a table for the group, Marlene slipped past Pandora to elbow James. His smirk told her everything that she needed to know.
“You picked this place on purpose, didn’t you?” she said, narrowing her eyes.
Regulus leaned past James and whispered, “He asked which of the curry places nearby was the most expensive. This one is deceptively simple from the outside, but it’s the best one I’ve found in SoHo.”
“Modest on the outside, lush on the inside. Just like me,” James said, biting the inside of his cheek hard to hold back laughter.
His boyfriend looked him over from top to bottom and scoffed, “Modest is the last word I would use to describe you. If anything, you’re overconfident.”
As the couple continued their weird flirting, Marlene checked her mobile again. She had three texts from Sirius and two from Pete. After Pandora sent Dorcas that last photo, she was hoping to receive a text herself. If Dorcas was that concerned about her, Marlene was happy to assuage her worries directly.
I know better. Dorcas doesn’t crawl for anyone, even me.
There was a time when Marlene held enough value for Dorcas to be worth her effort. She left London hoping that Dorcas would miss her. That one day, she’d find a text or voicemail on her phone from the woman that she pedestalled like the Venus she was for an entire year. It never happened.
“This way, please,” the host said. The older, West Asian man led the way to a large booth along the front windows. As they settled into their seats, he handed out menus and collected drink orders. When he finally reached Marlene, his eyes bugged wide. “Oh! Are you well, my dear?”
Marlene winced. She’d almost forgotten how bruised her face was after the “incident” this morning. “Yes, just a small mishap with a door.”
“May I bring you anything?” he asked, quickly returning to his professional demeanour.
“Beer? Vodka? Whatever you have with alcohol in it.”
The man nodded, then rushed away from the table. Marlene hoped that she hadn’t spooked the bloke. Peter told her often enough that she could be “off-putting” and “abrasive” when she was in pain.
“It’s not that bad,” Pandora said. “Your bruising is a lovely shade of purple now. It suits your skin tone beautifully.”
Marlene huffed a laugh. “Yeah, that’s why I always have them. Bruises are my favourite accessory.”
“I thought you preferred to hide your bruises.” Dorcas’s voice raised goosebumps on her skin as she walked toward their table. She was stunning in a deep purple pantsuit with a matching rosette tie at her throat. Overdressed as usual, Dorcas was a vision of loveliness.
“Depends how good the story is behind the bruise, and if I’m willing to tell it,” Marlene replied smoothly. Never was she more grateful for her mouth running faster than her mind.
Dorcas quirked an eyebrow at her as she slid into the only open seat left, directly across from Marlene. That had to be intentional too. These twats were clearly determined to see a row before she left. The host reappeared and handed Dorcas a menu.
“What about scars?” Dorcas asked quietly, thumbing through the menu. “Still hiding those too?”
“Only the internal ones.”

12, 23, 29, and 30 for the asks! :)
(For 30, what is your favorite silent film and/or film noir?)
12. Brand of haircare/bodycare/skincare that you trust 100%?
- Haircare: Fine Feathers by Duck & Dry for both shampoo and conditioner (it’s a London based brand, I’m a sucker for it both because it keeps my hair really silky even when dealing with hard water and because one of the major scent notes is bergamot)
- Bodycare: Anything from Marius Fabre (especially the grenade et fleur de cerisier bar and any of the savon de marseille products)
- Skincare: Nature Republic is my go to brand, I use their hylaronic acid toner daily and try to do cleaner, toner, and moisture sleeping pack (all aqua line) every night. I also absolutely swear by the Isntree hylaronic acid watery sun gel. I hate the feel, smell, and oiliness of most sunscreens, and how they can often cause my pores to clog, but I don’t want skin cancer, so I deal with it. This stuff has absolutely none of those downsides and actually made my skin even better. Also, most importantly, it’s amazing protection. I wore it all summer, in London, Taipei, and Lisbon, and, despite constantly being out in the blazing sun, never had a burn.
23. Do you wear jewelry?
I have a FitBit I wear every day, but I very rarely wear jewelry. Being very physically active, playing a string instrument, and having a job where I handle delicate antique documents on a regular basis, it’s just a pain to constantly be taking things on and off.
29. Favorite pasta noodle?
I’m not sure I really have one. I eat noodles on a pretty regular basis (like bibim naengmyeon, which has chewy buckwheat noodles, and somen are very much a part of my diet), but it’s really rare that I would make pasta for myself at home or even have it going out.
30. Favorite silent film and/or film noir?
For film noir, I’d have to go Double Indemnity (1944), although I’m also a big fan of the Bogart films of this genre, especially The Big Sleep (1946). For silent, probably any of the Josef von Sternberg films, although I have to admit I’m a bigger fan of pre-code talkies (I love Mae West, for example) than of silent film.

Happy Birthday Scottish actress Georgie Glen.
Georgie was born in Helensburgh on April 20th 1956 and as a child had little interest in appearing in school plays. She studied graphic design at Glasgow School of Art and moved to London in her mid-twenties to design book covers for the Thames and Hudson publishing house. Looking for other interests she joined Floodlight Council, an organization set up to bring out adult’s artistic skills and then became part of the Questors Theatre Company in Ealing, West London. Here she met the late Alan Rickman - who, like Georgie, had a background in design before treading the boards - and he encouraged her to follow her acting ambitions. As a result she enrolled at the Bristol Old Vic drama school and on graduating had her first job at the Wolsey Theatre in Ipswich.
Even then she felt, somewhat modestly, that she did not have the looks for a leading lady but ever since her television debut in 1988 she has been a reliable supporting player in virtually every type of show from sketch comedy to period drama, notably in a recurring role as doughty Sergeant Jennifer Nokes in Heartbeat and the liberal, kindly teacher head of History, Audrey in'Waterloo Road - filmed in her native Scotland.
Indeed she may be said to be one of the first ladies of character acting and though her film roles have again always been in support of bigger names she has proved herself to be a scene- stealer par excellence, as one of the more enthusiastic in Calendar girls alongside Helen Mirren and Julie Walters.
As I said earlier she has been in every type of show, to name a few we have comedy roles in Harry Enfield and Friends, Alas Smith & Jones and Little Britain, drama series and films are two many to mention them all but there are dozens, the pick of them include Taggart, of course, Peak Practice, Doctor Findlay, Mrs Brown, Shakespeare in Love, Silent Witness, and I think a lot of you will maybe “say” oh yes, when I tell you that she was the Judge in The Victim in 2019, an excellent four part series set in Scotland also starring John Hannah and Kelly McDonald. Oh and she was Denise in the brilliant Channel four show Damned!
Georgie seems as busy as ever with a new series of Call the Midwife due out soon, and the popular Children’s BBC show Hetty Feather, she has also been a regular in The Crown as Ruth Lady Fermoy in four episodes last year as well as that she has been in the BBC sitcom The Cleaner along with some great actors, Greg Davies, Helena Bonham Carter and David Mitchell. At the moment she is filming the latest episodes of Call Midwife.

I adore Evelyn as a character, she's so fascinating and I am so curious if you are OK answering what does the modern Evelyn look like? As in if you caught her on the street what would your impression of her be? Is she up to date with modern style and music and internet culture or has she stagnated in some time period? and aswell since I am not sure you said this one or not, what age does she appear to humans? I think it must impact them greatly, how they appear to those around.
You're so kind to say so! Thank youuuuuuu.
I think I'm kinder than some on how nations age haha! I think she probably looks like a woman in her 30s to most people. A few stress lines, frown ones especially, grey hairs here and there, but it mostly blends in with her hair since since it's already so pale. Eyes are rather sunken, so she has some almighty bruised bags which she rarely bothers to use concealer on...
I know some people like nations to just look painfully average. Some like them to look rather like gremlins. Some like them to be a rather idealised version of pretty. I think most nations are pretty, beautiful even, they just have all been through rather a lot, and it tends to show in places here and there. The weight that wears them down. I do really like the idea where there's just something off about them. They're too perfect, too symmetrical, they just have weird auras.
Nowadays... hmm... I think she'd wear a lot of shapeless neutrals and greens nowadays, much less red than she used to, almost like its a signifier for her health - if she's wearing fitted red clothes she's in a prior century mindset 🤣. Other hetalia bloggers have spoken about older nations preferring natural materials for their clothes over polyester and I love that idea. She dresses like a farmer almost. A gardener and a hiker. Not someone who goes shooting (I think the class distinction matters to her very much still), but something akin to a land army girl at times even. Maybe something like Carey Mulligan and this model here? Less cottagecore more... mud. She lives in the West Country, its a given really.
Like just a bit of an old woman. Not enough to mark her out but enough where she's a side step from what is fashionable. The days when she's called into the office in London it's like oh Jesus do I have to wear a suit?
Oh! And lol I forgot. Female England wears glasses doesn't she haha. Let's say she finally gets them in the 50s. The Great Smog did something weird to her eyes and they never quite recovered despite the air getting cleaner.
I think she would be perfectly average at tech. Not anywhere near Alfred or Kiku even (who is also old af but delights in having the weirdest trinkets), but she has her smartphone and her assorted apps to help her remember her shopping for the week. She likes the gardening ones that help her keep track of when to plant her cabbages. She's maybe better at tech than Francis, let's say, but in a very particular way. Don't ask me about social media, I'm not on enough myself to know haha. Evie is a bit stagnated in music, but maybe I'm projecting a bit too much there. Who's in the charts nowadays anyway, you whippersnappers? She plays Classic FM each evening is what I'm saying.
