Bill’s staring, he knows he is, he fucking knows it and it’s embarrassing and he wants to stop, but he can’t, not when the most beautiful man he’s ever fucking seen is in front of him, tall and broad-shouldered with eyes so warm that Bill feels like someone struck tinder in his heart and lit him up, and he has Bill’s words splashed across his collarbone, Bill’s thoughts—-not the clumsy stuttering that Bill thinks he’d choke out if he could bring himself to speak right now, but the way Bill is in his head, words running wild and twisting over and around themselves, bold and clear and true in a way he still struggles to be out loud.

Specifically, Bill can see his own current thoughts about the man—tall and strong and so fucking beautiful — eyes like a tree in summer, warm and solid and gold on brown — jesus christ he’s the fucking hottest person i’ve ever seen (he’s not… quite as proud of that one)—scrawling across said collarbone, and he’d wonder if it hurts, but then there’s a familiar burning blooming across his left wrist, and he glances down.

There’re words coiling there, in the same script as always, precise and steady, like every word it holds in its grasp matters, but this is the first time that Bill’s been able to guess why the words are coming, because even though it’s smaller handwriting than his across the other man’s collarbone, some words jump out—blue, blue blue blue god they’re so blue & he’s looking he’s looking right at me—and Bill’s breath just fucking hitches, and he glances back and he’s lost in those eyes again, and he’s not actually sure he’s even breathing—is this how Eddie feels, like, all the time?—but then there’s a smile stretching slowly across the other man’s face, bright and steady and so fucking golden that Bill thinks he could die of it, and somehow the sight sends the breath all the way back into his body, and when he tastes it on his tongue, he thinks maybe it tastes like the start of forever.

“but you don’t pay me no attention, stanLEY,” richie croons over the music, face twisted with overdramatic emotion. or that’s what stanley assumes richie’s stupid face is doing; he refuses to look up from his computer. the essay for professor gray isn’t due for another eight days but it was worth a large part of his final grade for the class and stanley’s free time was both little and precious and -- ugh, now richie’s face is right in front of his, leaning over the computer to sing even closer, even more obnoxiously. “i’m needing your attention baby, just show me some appreciation, or maybe take a bitch to dinner.” 

stanley closes his laptop with calculated precision before setting it to the side, knowing that the only way to get richie to leave him alone was to give him what he wanted, and very strategically, very gracefully, threw himself at richie’s gyrating form to cut him off mid-lyric with a kiss.

the way eddie turns his head slightly away from sonia too in that scene... like he doesn't wanna look at her either and admit that like, he needed her to come and take care of him, to take him to the hospital.. because that's like admitting defeat, admitting that he does rely on her, even when she has lied to him and made him feel so awful, so on both sides he is feeling like he is betraying everything that matters to him and he is just, struggling so hard with that inner turmoil.. jdg.. genius

idt he knows yet that she’s lying to him bc greta hasn’t enlightened him (which i know sonny knows but i want to take the chance to say... it’s the only thing she ever does for him lol.... comphet thinking she’s Clean and Pretty bc it’s what he’s Meant To Think ain’t a crush y’all.... boy’s gay) (me, seizing every opportunity to shout ‘eddie kaspbrak is gay’? on brand) but you’re absolutely right abt that, like... even if he doesn’t know she’s lying yet, he knows she thinks he’s delicate, that he can’t do anything, that he needs to be ‘protected from his own dim intimations of possible bravery’, and there’s something galling and almost too sharp to swallow about the idea that maybe... maybe she was right. on one hand, his friends believe in him.... but they led him into that house, into danger, face to face with a true terror, and he ended up with a broken arm and was lucky to just have that... he was alone, he was alone, and he nearly died that way. and on the other hand, his mum’s picking him up, protecting him, taking him to get better... but it comes with the price of knowing it’s proving her right, even when sometimes he has rebellious thoughts like maybe he’s not delicate at all... and the rub of it is that there’s no winning, there’s no good cards in his hand, there’s just hurt and loneliness and a sense of deep, profound loss, because in this moment it feels like. losing his friends / losing himself. he has to leave his friends in this moment, because they left him, he followed them into a murder house and now look at him... but in being taken by his mother, he leaves his independence, his last inches of bravery too. it’s like: oh. she’s right. i am delicate after all... they’re not my friends, after all...
