Moving along
Having a great vacation to celebrate our anniversary and both of our Birthday's. The kids are in heaven with my Mom and Aunt. I was worried about baby boy and felt guilty about leaving him. He's doing great. My Mom is so good with him. When I dropped him off at school he was still clinging to me/crying. With my Mom he walks in without looking back. I'm so glad we booked the trip despite my worries. Time with your grandparents/family/people who love you is a gift. I have such fond memories of weeks with my Grandma when my parents went on trips. My kids are lucky they will have the same memories. My Mom made a list of fun things the kids wanted to accomplish. They took baby boy to his first movie. Obviously enjoying all of the uninterrupted time with my husband. It's so easy to travel without the kids. I also think its really good for my Aunt. She doesn't move much - as in she rarely walks anywhere. She loves spending time with the kids and they force her to move. Its incredibly helpful for us and I think she likes feeling useful. She also takes care of her Mom. She's pretty grumpy so its a thankless job.
Job interviews are rolling in. Odd/nice to be in a job that companies are desperate to hire. One job sounds great but I'm worried about the commute time. Its a home for children with developmental delays. The kids seem to be on vents/have trachs. It says they can't live at home. I'm not sure why as many kids with those things live at home. The parents generally become experts. Maybe these are more complicated then what I'm familiar with. The place looks fancy - it includes a swimming pool. They train new grad nurses. It reminds me of a college summer job I had working at a Paul Newman job for kids with illnesses. It was wonderful. It would be a lot to learn but that's anywhere. Five weeks of vacation and a good salary. It says you accumulate PTO immediately but can't take vacation for six months. That won't work for me but I'm assuming its something I can negotiate. Especially if I'm willing to take unpaid time off that I preschedule during the first six months. I want/need Christmas and April Spring break off. The interview is next week. I also have an interview at a IVF clinic. Have an option to interview for a home health job. I think the long run that would be interesting/great but I don't want to start a job where I'll be on my own. They will train me but I have my doubts its enough. I'll probably do the interview just to hear more/practice.
Evaluations for baby boy continue. His OT said "no way he has autism." Feeling calmer about it no matter the diagnosis. The fact that he's charmed his teacher and is getting rave reviews has eased everything. We need to treat his ADHD type symptoms to keep him and those around him safe. From what I understand the two time's a week OT sensory gym sessions is the first step towards that. Still hoping to tour a special ed school but as of now not feeling that recommendation. Also will feel better when we get an adoption date. No word on that from anyone. The caseworker still acts like we are crazy for even asking.
Bee had a fun Birthday party. So nice to see all of her little friends. So lucky to have such a great community.

Vacation update 2
The Netherlands is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been. I was particularly excited to go since my grandparents are from there, and my mom literally cried from joy when our plane landed in Amsterdam. We rented a car this time so we were able to get around on our own, but it was very difficult for my dad to get used to the small roads and bike paths. The very fist day we drive across the country to Enschede to visit the place where my grandfather grew up during WWII. His house is no longer standing, but it was still cool to see the streets and train tracks from his stories.
The second day we went to Delft. I loved walking around the market and looking at the stunning architecture. There was also a cat walking around that I got to put which made the while day perfect.
On day 3 we spent the day in Amsterdam. We took a boat tour along the canal and rented bikes to ride through the city. It was definitely a cool experience, but now that its done I would recommend to those visiting to not rent bikes if you are in a group bigger the 3. I was in a group of 6, and not all of us can go as fast as others, so you can imagine the chaos that ensued. Still, I'm glad that I can say I did it.
Day four we went back to Delft where I picked up a gift for my host mom and visited my great aunt and uncle for the first time. It was honestly kind of awkward bit I'm really glad I got to meet them. After thay we drove to the beach and got dinner. This was supposed to be our last day, but as we were sitting in the restaurant we realized that our train tickets, which we thought were for first thing the next morning, were actually for the day after. Oops. Luckily we were able to make accommodations with the hotel and rental car relatively painlessly haha.
On day 5 we were all pretty tired, so we just spent the day driving and looking at the deltaworks.
As I type this, our train is crossing the border into France!! Super exciting, though it also means I meet my host mom the day after tomorow 😵‍💫
Attached are some pictures thay I took in the Netherlands. It really is such a beautiful country. I hope I can come back one day in the spring when all the tulips are in bloom!

Hi Coco, I really hope you could help me with this.
Abit of a background: I’m in a 4 years relationship and we’re both thinking of getting married. He’s a great guy, with a great job and the only downside is that he’s a bit more conservative/traditional. But overall he’s 10/10.
We live together in an apartment which is my aunt’s. So we paid below the market price and everything split 50:50. He usually paid for us at dates, but I always ‘gave back’ at him, for example, if he paid for dinner, I would pay for the movie tickets and pop corn. Or if he bought tickets for the concert, I’m the one who paid the drinks there. You get the idea.
Overall, I guess, he contributed more financially. But I never asked/hinted and he never complained. He has a better career path and earned more. I earned way less than him and he knows it. He’s an auditor and he did my taxes.
Anyway, I’m a trust fund baby. I got this from my grandparents which they got after selling their business. So I’m not old money or anything. Just so fortunate. It’s not like I got hundreds million. I get about 75k a year which I know is still a lot. But this this funds is the reason why I get to do my job happily. I also save this money, though I also use this to buy knicks knacks and go on a nice vacation once in a while. My boyfriend doesn’t know this and this fund’s taxes are separate and I don’t handle it.
I kept this a secret from anyone except my immediate family obviously. However, today we had a conversation about money and he assumed that I still received money from my dad. He asked me to be more independent and I can always depend on him if I want to treat myself. So I told him that my dad doesn’t send me money (the trust is from my mother’s side). He asked me where did I get the money to buy the things I bought and I told him I received money from my grandparents. I stalled and he kept asking me so I told him I got a trust fund since I turned 21 which was like 3 years before we met.
Now he was mad. He said that I deceived him. He also said that I should contribute more and from now on I can start paying the 3:4 of the rent because I have bigger closet and the decorations are my taste, not his. By the way, he never complained about how I decorate this apartment. He went on and on about how he should have pressured me to split the bill every time etc.
Funny thing is, my aunt was willing to let me live for free and only pay the electricity etc. Which I did before he moved in with me. But my aunt only do that for me and I don’t wanna extort her kindness so I insisted on paying the rent.
Another thing, if we combine my income + my trust funds, the amount is still less than his income. And I told him this.
He’s really mad at me, but he said he still loves me. He just needs to have some space. He’s at his parents house and I know that because his parents asked me what happened.
Now, I really don’t know what to do about this situation. I feel like I’m not doing anything wrong. I need your honest judgment on this.
Okay I’ve thought about this a LOT because it’s a very complicated situation and not one I’ve had experience with.
Firstly I think all women should have secret money in a relationship, what is known as a fuck you fund. Your ticket out if you need it.
But that’s not really what’s happened here. Initially I was more sympathetic to your case but that was based on the reaction not the cause.
I think your partner has reacted badly (the rent thing mostly) but also I do understand why he’d feel so betrayed. He’s thought he was looking after and supporting you and all this time you’ve had a passive income of more than the average salary. It doesn’t matter if he still makes more. I don’t think your relationship will get past this if you don’t accept that, although in many ways it was fair not to tell him your private business at first relationships are built on trust and this is a bit of a breach of it.
I don’t blame you for it though. I totally get why you’d be reluctant to own it. But you do owe him an explanation of why you didn’t explain it.
I also don’t think I’d have let him habitually pay for stuff even if I squared some things in my head if I was keeping that secret sorry. It’s one thing to alternate who pays but it’s not the same to act like you’re on one salary when you’ve got a second one.
Because there’s a very fraught issue here that could poison the rest of your relationship/lives I really suggest a course of couples therapy about this so you can clear the air now and come to terms with each others’ perspective. I don’t think you’ve allowed for why he’s upset properly or taken responsibility for it, and I think the reasons you did what you did will be hard to explain. So get a mediator, get it out now, and then you can move on together without this always being there and niggling it you both.
I really hope it works out and also lucky you! What a wonderful thing to have. That money would change so many people’s lives and means you can live without the underlying anxiety so many people live with. It’s a gift and while you shouldn’t be sorry for that or pressured by it you should be aware that it makes you different and it’s okay if people struggle with that a bit.

I guess because it's late and I have been feeling a lot of emotions today, I'm in a ranting/rambling mood. I have also been drinking (a bit) and I have to take my cat in for dental surgery early tomorrow AND THAT IS ALSO STRESSING ME OUT because she is my child - but I am having thoughts about family.
Families are fucking messy. I don't know or understand why, but they are fucking messy stupid little things. And they shouldn't be, but they are.
I don't even know where I want to go with this post. I just have a lot of thoughts, but don't really know how to formulate any of them.
Like, you'd think a family would be a strong bond of unity between people of famial blood - and a lot of things tell you that it should be. Like, you hear that stupid addage of "blood is thicker than water" - nevermind that there is actually more to the quote, but that's not the point. Families are supposed to be a cohesive unit; they're supposed to work together, but does anyone actually have a family that isn't completely dysfunctional?
When I was growing up, I never knew anyone from my dad's side of the family. My dad left home when he was 18 and joined the army and married a Catholic girl that his parents didn't approve of - this was like the late '50s (for context: my father was much older than my mother - this woman was not my mother) and basically never really spoke to any of his siblings from that point on. My dad's parents died long before I was born. My dad had 3 daughters I had never met, and I only met 2 of them after my father had died. I have resigned myself to the fact that I will probably never meet the last one. I only met my dad's siblings after the only sibling of his I had contact with (again, after he died) died herself and I went to fucking Brantford, Ontario to go to her funeral. This is also where I met the second sister, as only one had come to Calgary for my dad's service.
So, in comparison, my mom's family seemed really fucking functional. I can't say I grew up with my cousins or my grandparents (my mom's side) because I did not. They all lived in the great lakes area of Ontario and we were in Alberta (also, I find it hilarious that both my parents are from Ontario but they both ended up in Calgary, of all places) but when I was young we would go out there every couple of summers and sometimes some of them would come visit us. Yadda, yadda. So I had my cousins, my aunts and uncles, my grandparents, and it was great - we will ignore the fact that I had an uncle I didn't like for reasons I will not get into here, but let's just say he's part of the current family drama, so quelle suprise there.
And I guess when you are a kid, you don't notice the drama going on around you. Because, why would you? Going to Ontario to visit the family was the absolute best. You had your grandparents, your favourite aunt and uncle, you got to swim at the lakes in cottage country- it was fucking awesome.
Anyways, drama llama, fast forward years later, and you start to learn shit you didn't know. You now know things about people who you thought were absolute paragons of Great People. And this sounds omnious, like I'm leading up to a horrible family secret and I'm really not, but you learn that people, even your family, kind of suck.
None of this really came to light until I was in my mid-20s and my grandfather was dying. We had long since stopped "family summer vacation" because all us kids (my mom's kids) were adults and working and it just wasn't a thing anymore. So, whatever, my mom was there, I went there because at the time I was at a job that would actually let me have time off, one of my brothers was living in Ottawa at the time, so he was there. My grandfather died, we had the funeral, and then shit hit the fan.
So, my mother and her brother, were the POAs of financial and medical, respectively, for my grandparents. My mom's oldest sister was absolutely pissed she was not the POA of my grandfather's financials. My mother is a registered accountant, which is why her father chose her. Apparently, this rubbed my aunt the wrong way. Also, apparently, the reason the same said sister was not chosen as POA for health was because my grandfather thought that she would basically let my grandmother die. So, yes, my grandfather, my eldest aunt's very own father, did not chose her as POA for health because he thought she'd let her own mother die, because apparently (according to my mother) she didn't like her. I feel like that says a lot, but nevermind. So, when my grandfather died - my aunt was beyond pissed, and they (being the aunt, her husband- the one I don't like - and her daughter) tried to force their way into my grandparent's house (which my uncle was living in at the time, but owned by my mom) to look through his stuff. And later, this same aunt decided to get my other aunt into a pact where they decided they would not speak to my mom - this was over money. They were mad because apparently they thought my mom was hiding all the assets, completely disregarding the fact that everything went to my grandmother until she died (I am happy to report at this time, almost 7 years later, she is 94 years old and still going strong - if very addled with dementia. She may not know who anyone is, but god damn if that woman can't find a way to escape the locked dementia ward of a senior's home).
So, the short of that is two of my mother's sisters decide to simply stop speaking to her because of money issues that were not even hers to control, other than she had to act according to the will seeing as that's basically how wills work. This was exacerbated by aforementioned least favourite uncle (also said aunt's husband, which I think I mentioned) - who, I learned after the fact, was a complete asshole to my grandfather, and also who basically spent my grandfather's reception at the Legion in Trenton getting drunk with his friends instead of actually spending time with the grieving family - I didn't read too much into it at the time because I was, you know, grieving, as people do at funerals.
So, fast forward now and my mother and one of her sisters have since made up, because her husband had ALS and was actively dying - this is the uncle who is passing away in a few days. The eldest aunt my my mom are still not on speaking terms. But basically, fuck them. If she and TerribleUncle Whom I Have Never Liked want to continue to be assholes, I have suffered no loss.
Anyways, I have learned a lot about my aunt, who my mother is now speaking to, and my uncle who is currently dying in the last few years. These used to be my favourite aunt and uncle. My uncle, in particular, would always take us out on the lake in his boat and it was so awesome. We would go and collect lilypads and bring them back to shore. I absolutely loved this guy. And I still do, honestly, because it's hard to reconcile the people you knew them as with the people you learn that they are. But I learned that both of them actively emotionally abused their eldest daughter and would treat her like shit, while their youngest daughter could basically never do anything wrong. This is why she left home and basically never came back.
I never knew any of this until my mom told me, and I'm one of the only people who still keeps in contact with this cousin, and though she doesn't actively say anything about it, I've learned a lot from her responses and about how in the dark she was about her dad's diagnosis. Literally no one, not her mom, not her dad, not her sister was taking to her. And it took her dad, several years after receiving a terminal diagnosis, when he was actively in full decline, to finally reach out to her and tell her that he was dying. And even now, when he is literally receiving medical assistance to die in a day, he was the only one who bothered to reach out and tell her. Her mother, my aunt, didn't call her, her sister didn't call her. And like, that's a level of fucked up I can't even begin to comprehend. I don't particularly get along with my older brother, but I still fucking called him when my dad died.
And this post really got away from me and it is absolutely way too long and rambling, but I guess the basic gist of it is, is that even if you think your family isn't horrible and dysfunctional, it turns out that they kind of are???
And y'all, we haven't even gotten into the literal novel I could write about the dysfunction of my immediate family.
And I guess if anyone has actually read this and has a burning desire to know, the reason I dislike that particular uncle is because when I was a kid (like 4) he almost set me on fire (unintentional, probably), but also I have a very vivid memory of when I was like maybe 9 and we were at their house in Ajax and I was arguing with my brothers about something (I don't remember what), but I remember they were in the other room and I was sitting at a computer desk and I said something (probably some dumb kid thing), and this fucking man burst into the room and fucking slapped me, very hard, across the face until I cried (intentional, definitely). He did not do the same to my brothers, who were also saying some dumb stupid kid things. And that basically coloured every interaction I've had with him since and made me wonder if he slapped his own daughter that way. (Probably not, because she is an entitled princess). And basically, you don't slap your own child that way, let alone somebody else's.

Happy New Year 2023!
Oh, my dears. It has been such a long 2022. I hope that you are still here, and feel loved and safe wherever you are. I have missed being here and seeing all of you.
I've been seeing a lot of posts re: the end of 2022, and how people have made it through the year. I have many thoughts about my own year of 2022. On the grateful side, Spouse and I are both still here. We did some major repairs to the house this year (to the tune of $11K!), with more to come in the spring of '23. We both have still managed to avoid Covid, almost three years in, and we are grateful for that. We are both gainfully employed, and have great coworkers who make our jobs more enjoyable.
However, 2022, from my own perspective, was still quite hard. The spring '22 semester was the worst I've had in 19 years of teaching, save perhaps my first semester as a full-time, TT prof - and that was more about me being overwhelmed and exhausted, rather than about not knowing how to reach the students. Spring '22 students were comatose. They wouldn't talk, wouldn't participate. It took me until midterms to have a full conversation with most of them. And once they started talking to me, it was clear they were just as depressed, exhausted, and overworked as I was. They had so much on their plates - work, school, illness, injury. I kept trying to be flexible, to give them as much grace and help as I could. Some of them did better. Some of them just made it across the finish line - but they made it.
Summer was, at least, a little more restful than usual. I was so tired that I absolutely had to take a few weeks and just sleep, recover, work in the yard, do all the things that had fallen by the wayside at home during the school year. It wasn’t enough, but it was at least something.
Fall '22 was hard, again. The students seem more cheerful and engaged, something for which I am very thankful. They did a really excellent job in my classes, for the most part, and I was glad they enjoyed themselves and learned new things, for I didn't feel like I was as good a teacher as I could have been. I had a D & C with my OBGYN early in fall term, to check for anything that looked precancerous or cyst-like (thankfully all came back clear) and had four days of recovery, with another week of moving more slowly than usual. Spouse and I were both sick twice, before and after Thanksgiving. And then my Grammy,  my mother's mother, passed away on Nov. 5th, 12 days before her 96th birthday. She was my last living grandparent, and it's been harder than I expected. I was so, so glad that she was no longer in pain and back with her family (she was the last of five siblings to pass), but I miss her.
More joy - Spouse and I took our first real vacation in about eight years, and went out to Washington State to visit my uncle and aunt, as well as my bestie and her family.  It was a wonderful vacation - peaceful and relaxing - and something we desperately needed after the turmoil and exhaustion of the past few years. Yule and the end of the year were also very peaceful, and again I felt thankful. Peace and rest are so needed right now - there is never enough, but it makes the moments where peace and rest can be had all the more precious. Here's hoping that 2023 brings more joy and less stress, more peace and less worry.
I am hoping to be here more in 2023. I miss being here. I miss you all. And I haven’t meant to be away for so long, but I hope to be here more and be more present in fandom more broadly. I hope this finds you making a peaceful transition to 2023.

i spent five dollars on kinetic sand. just for fun, just to embrace a bit more childishness in my life
except, deep down, i knew it was more than that. my best friend’s aunt—who i always called auntie too—was a teacher and she let us play with her kinetic sand once when we went into the city to stay with her
i ate coconut shrimp three or four times last week. because i was on vacation and i like them, so that’s what you do
but also because my sister’s best friend taught us that you can eat shrimp tails. they’re not very nutritious and they’re scratchy on the way down, but sometimes when i have coconut shrimp i eat the whole thing in his honor
i’m lucky, i guess, that there’s only two young people who have passed that i honor with my actions. but there are others. my (step) great grandma who taught my family it was okay to say “i love you” (although my grandparents still can’t say it), the pennies i picked up for my friend’s dad, when the sunlight hits the wheels of car just right and it looks like an angel sent by my sibling’s mom, thinking of my great grandpa every time i have a soda, thinking of my (step) grandma every time i’m the last one to finish eating, smiling for my grandpa whenever i spend money, telling the same silly story about a hammer every Christmas for my grandpa and a grandmother i never met
we are a tapestry of the people we have come across in our lives; friends and acquaintances, even passing strangers have left their marks on us. so many of our actions are guided by a ghost, the ghost of a memory, the ghost of a good time, the ghost of someone we love who isn’t with us anymore
maybe grief hurts so much because before the string in the tapestry was shared by another, it wasn’t quite so special. but now it’s just up to you to keep it from fading to gray and being lost forever

Trust: Priceless
Summary: Jeongguk's new owner decides to take him out shopping and he comes closer to changing his opinion of her.
Contents: Hybrid!BTS, Jeongguk is a bit of a brat (he has his reasons), Mavis is out of her element, RabbitHybrid!Jeongguk(?)
Mavis poked her head into the living room and peered silently at Jeongguk.
The hybrid continued watching the TV like he didn’t notice her presence, only the twitching of his long ear betraying him. Mavis still hesitated, her face an unreadable mask as she observed the situation.
Jeongguk looked bored out of his mind, no doubt tired of only having television to watch after three days in her new home. As a kid, Mavis had gotten a thrill from being able to watch cable when she visited her aunt instead of just satellite TV, but she had been an easily entertained child and not as energetic as Jeongguk seemed.
When she asked, her hotel manager, Dobbs, had told her that Jeongguk had yet to use any of the hotel facilities Mavis had told him he was free to at any time, no questions asked. Mavis personally wanted to use the indoor pool, but hadn’t found the time or energy to head down there. But even if he wasn’t interested in the pool, there were basketball and tennis courts, bike trails, a hedge maze and an entire arcade in the hotel for Jeongguk to use.
As far as Mavis could tell, the only thing holding Jeongguk back from finding something to entertain himself was the fact that other than himself, there weren’t many hybrids to be found in the Mountainview Hotel. And even then, not many of the guests brought their hybrids along with them when they vacationed or took their business trips. If Mavis was being honest and allowed her professionalism to lapse some, the hybrids brought along by the higher class guests were rather… bratty. In the way that some spoiled children seemed.
She was sure that they weren’t all bad, but the way your actions are perceived by family and friends often differs from the way you’re seen by strangers.
Even Jeongguk probably seemed bratty to everyone else.
Mavis had to admit, the way he was grouching reminded her of a preteen determined to not have fun on a family trip and trying to make everyone else as miserable as he was.
But she couldn’t fault him for it. She’d be angry too if her whole life was flipped upside down and she was told she now had to live with a stranger and abide by their rules if they wanted to live. For Jeongguk, her ownership could be considered the equivalent of prison while she only felt like she had custody of a child that would need a lifetime of her care.
But even so, life went on and he had to interact with her some time.
And going grocery shopping and clothes shopping was the first way they were going to have to do it.
“Jeongguk,” Mavis called finally, making the hybrid freeze as he waited for her to speak. His eyes remained on the TV even as his ears tilted towards her. “We need to go out. I want to stock up the kitchen and we’ll need to fluff up your wardrobe. I’m sure it’s got to be tiring recycling the same plain clothes every day.”
“White T-shirts are my style.” Jeongguk said flatly. Mavis could only see a fraction of his face from that angle, but she could easily make out the scowl that marred his features.
Internally she winced. Outwardly, she only raised an eyebrow.
“Then I’ll buy you however many you like. But that doesn’t change the fact that the constant wearing and washing is going to wear them down to rags before long.” She walked in between him and the TV, forcing him to look at her. She offered a quirk of her lips in lieu of a smile. “Besides, we can try somewhere new to eat while we’re out. You can pick the place.”
Jeongguk looked put out with her presence, but seemed interested in the idea of food. "Fine."
Mavis smiled encouragingly and offered him a jacket, thankful that she had preferred to buy jackets from the men's section when she still lived in the city. They always seemed thicker, even if they didn't always match the rest of her outfits' styles, and Mavis loved to wear her clothes with sleeves a size or three bigger. They were comfortable and offered her a bigger sense of protection somehow.
Besides, she thought the whole sweater paws concept was very cute.
Jeongguk scowled but accepted the jacket. His hybrid side wasn't exactly built for cold weather, even if he was in denial even to himself about the truth of his species. He loathed to wear anything that carried Mavis' scent. The cabin was barely bearable,  only the fact that she had just moved in and spent little time there since putting him at ease. Jeongguk had secretly been going around the cabin and scenting what he could, keeping in mind the fact that Mavis informed him that there would be more hybrids coming at some point. He wanted all of them to know that he was the original, even if he didn't care for their owner.
Jeongguk stayed silent for their short trip to the garage, making Mavis feel a bit nervous. She always hated having people walk behind her where she couldn't see them. It made her self conscious and messed with her sense of security. Typically, she would have slowed down her pace to match his, but thought it would be a bad idea to force Jeongguk to be too close to her. Plus, he didn't know where the garage was and she did.
And again, going into the garage made Mavis' brain short circuit for a moment at the extravagance of it. Had her grandfather really needed so many vehicles?
Jeongguk let out a long, low whistle at the sight. His expression finally changed from indifference to awe.
He knew his new owner was loaded, but this was a rich chick for sure.
Mavis hid her smile at the look of awe on his face and considered her options.
She wanted to take her own car. She was familiar with it and loved it, having bought it all on her own. It wasn't anything new or flashy, but there was pride in driving something you worked hard for. But she knew it wasn't going to be large enough to hold everything they were out to buy today.
Mavis eyed the collection of SUVs, immediately disregarding the ones meant for show or mud riding and decided that the plain, white one with a hatchback was her best choice. Surely they could lay the seats down for more room.
"Do you have a driver's license, Jeongguk?" she asked, noticing his fascination with a bright blue sports car she was too afraid to even think of driving.
 "I'm a hybrid."
Mavis shrugged. "That doesn't mean you can't have a driver's license. Independent Hybrids are capable of obtaining them and Owned Hybrids are as well, though I'm sure there's quite a bit of paperwork to go through. We can get you one, if you like, and I'll add you to my insurance so you can drive any car in here that you like."
Jeongguk stared at her like Mavis had been speaking a dead language instead of offering him more independence. He frowned, unsure of her motives. Did she want him to run off and disappear so she'd have a reason to give him up and not feel guilty over his death. "I'd rather not."
Mavis sighed, but allowed the matter to drop. Instead, she moved over to the peg board where all the keys were stored to get the keys to the SUV. If she liked the car well enough for grocery shopping, she might even add its key to her key chain.
She was a bit surprised when Jeongguk tried to climb into the backseat instead of the passenger side and forgot herself for a moment when she reached into the backseat to stop him. They both looked at her outstretched hand incredulously.
“We’ll need the space for our groceries.” she said quietly, clearing her throat in an attempt to also clear out the awkwardness of the moment. She felt a bit guilty at the close call, having promised herself that any contact the two of them shared would be on Jeongguk’s terms. She never wanted to pressure him, even if it meant they never got more than a foot closer to each other.
“You… want me to ride in the front seat? With you?” Jeongguk sounded unsure for once. He eyed her hand like a rabbit facing a snake, making Mavis realize that she’d never dropped it.
She stepped back, avoiding his eyes. Instead, she looked for the button that would lay the backseat down. “Of course.”
Jeongguk looked like he wanted to argue, but merely followed Mavis’ lead and pushed the button on his side, the two of them working together to transform the backseat into a better storage area.
When they were done, he climbed into the passenger’s seat silently, buckling up and fixing his eyes on the window.
The SUV was really too much for her to handle at first, especially the fact that her key… wasn’t really a key and more of a fob.
It took her a moment to actually get the car started, not used to having to press a button instead of turning a key. Jeongguk even turned his head from the window to look at her judgmentally.
“Doesn’t your chauffeur usually pick you up?” he asked, unable to help himself from asking. He wondered if she was trying to show off for him by taking him out herself. It wasn’t working.
Mavis’ brow furrowed as she tried to figure out the car’s features, carefully trying to get the Bluetooth to work before she tried to drive. She wasn’t familiar with the good radio stations in the area yet and couldn’t stand driving in silence, let alone the awkward one that always came with Jeongguk’s presence. “I’m sure that Cooper would have one waiting if I asked, but I’ve never used a chauffeur before.”
Jeongguk stared. “I thought rich people never drove anywhere themselves.”
Mavis snorted and shrugged. “I dunno about that. I’m new to all this, myself. I didn’t really see my grandfather all that often after my great-grandparents passed - there was never a reason to - so my lifestyle was much more humble than all this.” she frowned. “It’s rather unsettling if I’m being honest.”
Jeongguk wanted to ask why she had little reason to see her family. Did someone need a reason to go see the people they were supposed to spend their lives surrounded by? But it wasn’t his business and he didn’t want to know about her personal life. Really.
Even if the question as to why she was unaccustomed to this life was a burning one. She seemed like she had a handle on things and carried herself like a strong and smart business woman with a flourishing hotel and lavish life behind her. He didn’t wonder what she was like before, what she might have been if she didn’t suddenly drop into his life as his newest owner.
Jeongguk turned back to the window and swallowed his questions.
After getting her phone connected to the SUV’s Bluetooth (which took more brainpower than she was willing to admit), Mavis opened her Spotify and handed her phone over to Jeongguk.
“You can play whatever you like.” she told him as she pressed the button on her keyring to open the garage door. “I may need to pull up the GPS to find the grocery store after we get into the city. Though, I think I can use the car’s map system instead of my phone…” Mavis frowned thoughtfully at the display before pulling out of the garage. She paused briefly to shut the door again before heading down the driveway and towards the exit to the hotel grounds.
She couldn’t help but slow down to give the sprawling building a worried look as she passed, much like a new mother leaving her newborn with someone else for the first time.
The hotel wasn’t on fire and would still be intact when she got back. They’d managed without her there before and they could do it again.
… now if only she could convince herself of that.
Mavis waved at the security guard as he let them out, and Jeongguk finally settled on a song as they left the gates.
A low, bass beat began thrumming through the SUV and its passengers were silent, only the voice of the track’s vocalist filling the space between them.
Fortunately for Mavis, the car system’s GPS pulled up easily enough and getting on the highway to the city was simple enough. If they were only going for grocery shopping, Mavis would have headed in the opposite direction for the little town that was a bit closer. She had passed through it the first time she’d made the trip up the mountain to the hotel and found it to be very similar to her own hometown, if a bit newer.
But today she had lots of things in mind to get for the cabin - for both her and Jeongguk - and so they would be getting their groceries from a large chain grocery store instead.
When the music came to a sudden stop, Mavis and Jeongguk both looked at the Bluetooth display in bewilderment. Jeongguk checked Mavis’ phone and frowned at the name. It seemed strangely familiar to him.
“It’s Cooper calling.” he told Mavis flatly, trying to hand the phone over.
She waved him off, not confident in driving and holding the phone at the same time, and accepted the call through the SUV’s Bluetooth.
There was a beat of silence after the phone connected.
“Hello? Ms. Attmore?” Cooper’s slightly staticky voice filled the cab. He sounded nervous.
Mavis hid her amused grin even though Cooper couldn’t see her. It was still funny to her that she was intimidating now. Especially after leaving a job where the people in her care screamed and swatted at her all day long (she missed her toddler class dearly).
The power was a little intoxicating.
“Good morning, Cooper.” Mavis said, sliding into her Boss Lady voice. Even her driving smoothed out, her shoulders straightening and her confidence growing.
Jeongguk did a double take, having grown used to a reserved and almost timid Mavis. This person in the car with him now was the same Ms. Attmore he had met the first day she arrived at the Mountain View.
His ears perked up and his nostrils flared, becoming more attentive of her instinctively. He was curious about this side of her personality.
“Good morning, Ma’am!” Cooper said more brightly. “I was just calling to check in with you. Has the cabin been to your liking? I know it’s been a few days and I was wondering when you’d like me to send the housekeeping service out?”
Mavis tapped her fingers against the steering wheel thoughtfully. “I suppose today would be fine. I’m taking Jeongguk out to pick out some clothes and things for his room.” She glanced over at the Hybrid in question. “Would you like them to straighten your room up a bit, or would that be too uncomfortable?” Mavis lowered her voice a bit to keep it off the call.
Jeongguk hesitated, not used to having so much agency over his own space.
After spending so long in the underground fighting rings, having privacy and personal belongings of his own was a foreign concept. He knew to leave Mavis’ belongings alone, but had just expected her to do as she pleased with the things she had given to him.
“I can clean my own room.” Jeongguk said slowly, watching for any adverse reaction.
Mavis just nodded and raised her voice to address Cooper again. “Have them skip Jeongguk’s room for now. And can you ask them to skip the floral scented stuff? It gives me a headache…”
“Would a citrus scent be more preferable, Ma’am?” Cooper asked anxiously.
“That’s fine. But no coconut or pineapple or mango, please. They make me feel ill.”
“I’ll tell the housekeeper to use an orange or lemon scent from now on, Ma’am.” Cooper promised. Mavis could almost see him in her mind’s eye, scribbling furiously in his planner to keep her preferences marked down for future reference.
“Thank you.” Mavis allowed a small smile to cross her face before it was replaced with a thoughtful frown. “One more thing, Cooper - would you mind adding another smartphone to my plan?”
“Of course, Ma’am!” Cooper said eagerly. “Do you have any preferences for color or brand?”
Mavis shrugged. “It’s for Jeongguk. I’ll have to let you ask him.” She nodded at Jeongguk, wordlessly telling him to go ahead and give Cooper the word.
The Hybrid froze, looking at Mavis like a frightened rabbit.
She offered him a more sincere smile, trying to be as encouraging as she could. “It’s okay.” she whispered. “If you don’t know what you like best yet, you can get a phone like mine in whatever color you want.”
“... the same phone as Ms. Attmore.” Jeongguk said hesitantly, voice just barely loud enough for the phone to pick it up. “In purple?”
“You catch that, Cooper?” Mavis asked, wanting to make sure Jeongguk got exactly what he wanted.
“Should that be a light purple or a dark?” the assistant clarified.
“Either is fine.” Jeonggiuk said, a bit more confidently this time.
“I’ll have it waiting for you when you return home!” Cooper said brightly, happy to finally have something to do for Mavis. “Is there anything else I can help with?”
“I think that covers it for now, Cooper.” Mavis reassured him. “I may need your help arranging deliveries for our bigger items when we get to the store.”
“I’ll be waiting for your call!”
“Thank you,” Mavis reached over to end the call. “Have a good day.”
Jeongguk continued to watch her, no longer trying to ignore her, even after the music resumed on their way to the city.
She was tolerable for the moment, maybe even agreeable after a long period of time, but he would still keep an eye out for any signs that it was all an act.
After all, a hybrid still couldn’t trust a human.

Six Months
Six Months - Part One
Tumblr media
Summary - Layla desperately needs a vacation and her Aunt and Uncle come to her rescue. So, at twenty two, she packs her bag and jets off to America. Harry took a break from education and is now a full fledged content creator on OnlyFans. At twenty, he makes more money than almost all of his friends. What ensues when these two meet and realise the windows in their rooms face each other? How will paper airplanes bring them closer together?
a/n - This is my first series. It’s centred around an Indian OC. She is South Indian - Tamil, to be exact. Harry is an OnlyFans creator. Smut to ensue. I haven’t planned anything, I just want to write and figure out things as I go. Please reblog!
Word Count - 1289
Warnings - none.
Tamil Words - Kutti : ‘baby’ or ‘sweetie’. a term of endearment mostly used with a child or a significant other - literally translates to ‘little.’
Masterpost
Layla Sathish was twenty two and she was flying out of the country for the first time. She was that kid that tried to do everything her family wanted. She lived with her parents and her grandparents. She was the only child in the house, but she was not spoiled rotten to any extent. She was the kid that didn’t belong in her generation. She was the first grandchild/ great grandchild on her father’s side; her second cousin was born thirteen years later. So, naturally she chilled with her Aunts and Uncles - this could be one of the explanations to why she was an eighty year old on the inside.
Layla would describe her life as a series of backups. She belonged to a middle class family. She wanted to get into medicine but she fell short of the merit list and her family couldn’t afford to pay the donation (quite common in a lot of Indian medical colleges). So, she settled for her backup, Psychology; she truly found her niche. She thrived in her Bachelors; her professors adored her. For her Masters she wanted to get into neuropsychology research - she was accepted into some of the top colleges in India. Her parents and grandparents did not want her to move away from home and did not have means to make ends meet if she moved out of the city.
Defeated, she went back to the place she did her undergraduate and pursued her Masters in Counselling. She hardly ever put in any effort but still found herself topping almost every single class. She was the type of person who would link her self esteem to good grades, but she was also a serial procrastinator. After five internships and four research papers, she finished her Masters with flying colours and hated her degree while doing so.
She hit a bit of a slump, you see, so she decided to take a break and travel. She saved up enough money, through selling her paintings on Etsy, to go to Singapore for a solo trip but her overprotective parents refused. Her uncle and aunt stepped forward to fund her trip to the states and promised to keep her safe. So, she said goodbye to Chennai temporarily.
////
“Here we are. Home for the next few months, Layla.”
Layla hops off the passenger side of the BMW and opens the trunk of the car to get her suitcases. “Hmmm. One can only imagine the hustle and bustle of Apex, North Carolina.”
“Oi! It’s the crack of dawn. Give it some time. Now, I’m sure Auntie is waiting for us. Come on then,” says her Uncle, Vasanth, as he helps her with the bags and walks into his house.
“Alright, America, let’s see what you’ve got.” She mutters as she follows behind.
“Layla! Kutti! It’s been two years! Look at how much you have grown?!?” Says her Aunt, Abi, throwing her arms around her, engulfing her into a tight hug.
“Hiii! Growth? Please, I stopped growing in middle school. I’m such a shrimp compared to the two of you. I’m but a measly 5.1’’ compared to your what 5.10’’ and Uncle’s 6.2’’
“Okay, you have matured as an individual. That acceptable?” She says.
“I’ll take that. Thank you so much for having me here, you two.” Layla says.
“We’re family. No need for thank yous, kutti.” Vasanth says.
“How was the flight, Layla? First time on the plane, right?” Abi says.
“Yeah. Not bad; my ears felt horrible though. But I was excited, first time to leave the country, first time to leave the continent, and first time travelling solo - that too, an international trip.”
“Well I’m glad. Now, I recommend you sleep now. The jet lag will be easy to handle then. Come on, I’ll show you to your room. Vasanth, bring her bags up, will you?”
“Wait! I want to look around the house. You sent me all those pictures of the nooks and corners when it was being built, now I want to see it all decked up.” Layla whines.
“And you can, in a few hours. Now, get some shut eye. I know you still operate in IST but it’s 3:00 am here. Call your parents okay, kutti.” Vasanth says.
“Okay,” she sighs in defeat.
Once they’ve both situated Layla in the guest room, her Uncle and Aunt say their goodnights and leave to go get some rest. Layla calls her parents and tells them that she’s reached her Uncle’s home, all safe and sound. She puts her suitcases on the bed and rifles through them to get her favourite pyjamas. Once she works out the knots in her hair, she puts it up in a bun - having zero energy to get it wet. She draws the curtains back and partially opens her window and saunters into the shower with her moisturiser and body wash.
///
Harry tosses and turns in his bed. He’s too hot under his covers. He flips the covers off of his body and groans. “Now I’m bloody cold.” He gets up to use the bathroom.
He trudges back after a wee to his desk. He picks up his phone and looks up to see light coming from his neighbour’s window. How odd, he thinks to himself. He’s met the Sathish’s who moved in a month ago and in that whole month he’s never seen that room with the lights on at night.
He notices suitcases on the bed and peers into the room. A girl walks into his line of vision. She’s tiny, not more than five feet. Black hair wound into a bun. She’s wearing a white shirt with a Power Rangers logo and some shorts with all the ranger’s helmets arranged haphazardly. She puts her suitcases on the floor and stretches. Her shirt rides up a little revealing her midriff. Harry turns away immediately and scampers towards the bed.
“Way to go, Peeping Tom. What if she saw you creeping? Idiot.” He mutters to himself and gets under the covers. He scrolls through social media for a bit before opening OnlyFans. He’s upto 38,000 followers. He switches back to Instagram and scrolls through reels before sleep finds him.
Harry Styles didn’t ever think he would end up creating content for OnlyFans. He was a bright student in school. He moved to the States a year ago with his mum, following his parent’s divorce. Harry’s mum is a nurse who worked in the nearby university hospital. She was often slammed most of the days, so it was mostly just him at home. After his A levels, Harry snagged a year long internship at Earth Watch, he worked with one of the top researchers studying climate change in the Arctic Circle in Churchill, Manitoba. Nineteen year old him would have never guessed that in a year's time his parents will split up, which would lead him to move in with his mum in the States and create content on OnlyFans, that makes more money than what any undergrad with a climate science major. He knows he wants to go get that undergraduate and his masters, but doesn’t feel like he wants to rush. He wants to save up enough money to support himself and somehow cushion his blow into the financial debt abyss that comes with higher education in America. He loved growing up in England but does not see himself going back anytime soon. All he knows for sure is that he is going to burrow into his bed, stay at home and pig out for the weekend.
Little did he know that his mum put up a post it on the fridge before she left for her Friday late night shift.
Housewarming brunch at the Sathish's Sunday.
I’ll be back in the afternoon.
Leftovers are in the fridge.

Longest Night (50) Celebrating
Here we go! The last chapter! And it’s a doozy!
I don’t know about the rest of you guys, but I grew up calling all of my parents friend’s ‘aunt’ and ‘uncle’. Some of them I still do. Which was really fun when I dated a family friend and kept calling his mom ‘Aunt Julie’. We are not related. Fun times!
Also, there’s some nicknames in this chapter. “Peepums” is Tom. “Nonnie Cheng” is Sabine. And “Nonna Gina” is Tom’s mom. You know how grandparents all have their weird nicknames.

20 years later
When Marinette awoke that morning, she was alone in bed. It wasn’t that odd. Adrien had always been an early riser, but this was a different reason than just that.
But she didn’t worry. It was best just to leave things the way they were.
Dressing in a robe, she went downstairs to start making breakfast. The kids were old enough to get ready on their own now, and as long as they were down before 7, she didn’t bug them.
The first into the kitchen was the youngest, Emma. A complete girly-girl and lover of all things pink and fashionable. Even at 12, she had her own sophisticated sense of style (party cultivated by her grandfather). She danced in her pink dress and adorable white flats. “What do you think, mama? Perfect for career day? Do I look like a professional?”
“Of course you do, sweetheart.”
She beamed. “Where’s papa?”
“Oh, uh, I’m not sure. He couldn’t sleep last night, so he went for patrol. He hasn’t been back yet.”
Emma frowned hard. “He’ll be there for career day though, right?”
“He wouldn’t miss it for the world! But Peepums and Grandfather Gabriel are going to be there too.”
“Is Peepums bringing treats?”
“I would assume so. He never passes up a chance to bring snacks. Now, I’m making crepes, you want one or two?”
“Just one, mama.”
“Alright.”
The next down the stairs was the oldest (by two minutes) Hugo. “Morning mama,” he smiled brightly.
“There’s my birthday boy! Feel any older?”
“No, but I feel wiser!” He joked, as he jumped on the stool by the counter.
“Where’s Louis?”
“Stuck in the toilet.”
“And you mean that figuratively, right?”
He shrugged. “What’s for breakfast?”
“Crepes, blueberry, your favorite.”
“Yes! I want five!”
“You can have three, I don’t want you to get a tummy ache before school.”
“Lame! Bring on the crepes!” He pounded his fists on the counter.
“Three, and then if you aren’t stuffed, I’ll consider more.”
Then came the unmistakable sound of a body slowly falling down the stairs, before a dark haired teen crawled across the floor and collapsed next to his mother’s legs.
“Ah, Birthday boy part 2. Welcome to the land of the living!”
“It should be a crime to have to wake up early on your birthday.” Said the boy, face flat against the ground.
“You truly are my child,” said Marinette with a smile.
“Where’s pops?” Asked Hugo, digging into his second crepe.
“Out on patrol.”
This caused Louis to stir and look up. “Did something happen?”
“No, he just couldn’t sleep.”
Hugo frowned. “Nightmares again? He’s been having those a lot lately.”
“Yeah. I’m not sure why he’s having them. But you kids don’t need to worry about it.”
“Are we still okay for our party tomorrow?”
“Of course!” Marinette beamed. “Even if papa wasn’t feeling great, we’d still have it! Aunt Chloe reserved the rooftop pool for you, after all.”
“…I’m so excited,” said the child on the floor, with no enthusiasm. “You just can’t tell right now.”
“Well, you’re not going to get any rest on the floor. Sit in your seat and eat your crepe. I’ll make a little coffee.”
“…yay…”
Emma bounced nervously in her seat. She was flanked by Tom and Gabriel, who had both already presented for career day.
The day was almost over, and her father hadn’t shown.
“It’s okay, my little cupcake.” Tom assured, petting her blonde hair. “He’ll be here.”
“And if he doesn’t make it,” added Gabriel, “It wasn’t because he didn’t want to. He’s probably out there stopping a criminal, saving lives. I know you’re the most important thing in the world to him.”
Emma nodded, believing both of her grandfathers, but also not wanting to be one without a dad on career day.
Through the years, Emma had gotten used to her father’s unpredictable behavior. He loved her to the end of the world and back, and would move mountains for her if he could. And most days, it really really showed.
But some days, he just wasn’t…there. Emotionally, spiritually, or like today, physically. Her mother had similar episodes, but mostly in mood swings. She got angry sometimes, seemingly over nothing. Never directed at Emma or her brothers, thankfully, but Emma knew that there was something different about her parents.
She knew the story. She had been told pieces of it growing up, but never allowed to watch the footage. Mama and Papa had been kidnapped and tortured, because they were superheroes, and they were never the same after. The details were vague, and she was told it would be too scary for her to handle every time she asked. But she saw the scars, heard her father’s screams at night.
Most days, she didn’t want to know.
“Alright! I think that’s everyone!” Miss Bustier called. “Thank you all for participating in our career day! It’s awesome that we have such a wide range of jobs just in this very room!”
Emma deflated. Her father really wasn’t coming.
Tom laid a giant hand on her head and rubbed.
But then, there was a knock at the window.
“Chat Noir?” Miss Bustier asked.
The man in black waved as she opened the window.
“So so sorry I’m late!” He apologized, hopping into the room. “I caught a robber, and I walked him down to the police station and we had to do all this paperwork—“
“Papa!” Emma shouted, leaping over her desk. She ran to him, and threw her arms around him in a crushing hug. “You made it!”
“Just in time it seems,” he laughed, hugging her back. “I’m sorry I’m late. Can you forgive me?”
“Of course! Come on, it’s your turn to present!” She took his hand and led him up to the front of the room. “Everyone, this is my dad, Chat Noir! He’s a superhero!”
The next day was Saturday, and Marinette was full of stress up to her neck. She paced poolside, as her family helped set up for the party.
“Alright, Nino’s on music, Alya’s on Emma duty, Chloe covered catering, mom and dad have the cake, Gabriel and Emilie have decorations…what am I missing?”
“My Lady, you’ve gone over this list a hundred times. We’re fine.”
“Drinks! I forgot the drinks!”
Adrien pointed over at the bar. “Luka and Kagami are on drinks, remember? Luka’s making his mimosas for the adults.”
“Oh, right.” Then she pointed at him. “No alcohol, alright? Not with your medication.”
“Oh come on, these are Luka’s mimosas! I’m gonna get krunk!”
“Dad’s gonna get krunk?” Asked Hugo, from the pool.
“No one is getting krunk!” Marinette poked Adrien in the chest. “Look what you started!”
“I’m only teasing.” Adrien laughed, taking his wife’s hand. “Relax My Lady, it’s a party, a sweet 16 party! Everyone’s here to have fun. And they will as long as we relax.”
Marinette got close, whispering conspiratorially, “that’s just the thing! Do you remember our sweet sixteen parties?”
“Well...I didn’t have a party,” Adrien shrugged. “You, Alya, and Nino helped me escape the house and we went to the movies.”
“Yeah, and they spent the whole time making out, so you and I just sat there awkwardly.”
“I think I put my arm around you,” he grinned. “My very good friend.”
She stuck her tongue out at him.
“And your sixteenth...was that the year that Lila told everyone it was on a different day?”
“And you were the only one who called to confirm it was on the original day, and so you were the only one that showed? Yep, that’s the one. I cried on you for 15 minutes when I realized no one else was coming.”
“I mean, yeah, that sucked, but we still had fun with your family.”
“My point is, this is Hugo and Louis’ sixteenth birthday. I want them to have a good one, to have what we couldn’t have.”
“You have their gifts in your purse, right?”
“Yeah?”
“Then I wouldn’t worry about it. Their friends and family are coming, everything looks good, so just relax.”
Marinette took a deep sigh. “You’re right, my love. Whatever happens, happens, and we’ve done all we can.”
“The party will be fine, Mom.” Said Louis from a lounge chair.
“Ah! Louis? Why aren’t you in the pool?”
“I’m perfectly content just relaxing here. I’ll get hot soon enough and go in the pool.”
“Are you sure?”
Adrien wrapped an arm around his wife. “Marinette, let him alone. He’s fine. You know he’s our introvert.”
“Mama! Papa!” Emma called, running towards them from the hotel elevator. “Look at the swimsuit grandfather Gabriel got me!” She twirled, letting the shimmery, glittery greens, teals, and purples swirl in a kaleidoscope of color. “I look like a mermaid!”
“You sure do, Princess!” Adrien beamed.
Emma squealed in delight before running back to Alya.
“See? All of our kids are enjoying themselves. The guests are slowly trickling in...” he gestured to the elevator where more classmates with gifts arrived. “And no catastrophes yet.”
“Fine fine, Kitty, I get it. I’ll have a mimosa and lighten up.”
“Have one for me too!” He called after, as she headed to the bar.
Soon, the guests arrived. Hugo and Louis had invited their entire class of 18 kids. Some parents stayed to help with chaperoning, and some even brought younger siblings that were friends with Emma.
It was turning out to be a real shin-dig.
So far, Marinette felt at ease. The four parents that had stayed were mostly just hanging out at the bar, but the kids were in the pool, and no one was drowning.
Louis still reclined on the lounger, sunning himself.
“You're still doing okay over here, kiddo?”
“Mom, I’m doing so okay. So okay, it’s ridiculous. Nonna Gina brought me over a virgin mimosa, cause everyone’s talking about them. I feel like I’m on vacation.”
“As long as you’re content, I’m happy. Just wanted to make sure you weren’t feeling left out.”
“Nah,” he waved her off. “I will go swimming, but I’m going to wait until after eating.”
“Okay, kiddo.”
Seeing Hugo happily enthralled in a cannonball contest, and Louis sunning himself like a cat, she decided to check in with her youngest. Though she saw Alya at the bar talking to Kagami, and Emma nowhere in sight.
This used to make her panic immediately. None of her kids were especially hyper or rambunctious. They didn’t run off on their own, especially without letting her know.
But there was still a fear, still a niggling doubt in the back of her head that said ‘what if’?
As calm as possible, she approached the adults at the bar, and asked Alya. “Have you seen Emma?”
“She ran down to the lobby to use the bathroom,” Alya answered casually.
“Alone?”
“Yeah, Marinette, she’s 12. She can handle going to the bathroom alone.” It was a reassurance, no judgement. Because sometimes, Adrien and Marinette needed a reminder that their children were well adjusted and had plenty of common sense.
Marinette knew that. And it wasn’t the bathroom part she was concerned about. It was the trip down to the lobby by herself.
She heard a father speak softly, “for superheroes, they are certainly overprotective of their kids. Kind of feel sorry for them.”
Marinette nodded at Alya, and retreated sheepishly. Was her paranoia ruining her children’s lives?
“What’s with that look, My Lady?” Adrien asked, softly, sipping on his drink.
“Sorry, sorry, I just…overheard something I shouldn’t dwell on.” She looked at the drink in his hands, narrowing her eyes.
“It’s virgin!” He handed it to her. “I promised I was going to quit. Getting plastered at our kid’s birthday would be the worst time for them to find out I have a problem.”
“It’s not a problem yet, but that’s why I want you to stop. So it doesn’t become one.”
“Hey! Let go Isaac!” Louis’ voice carried over the water. Instantly, Marinette and Adrien were alert and looked to see a larger boy pulling Louis toward the pool by the arm.
“Hey!” Marinette called out. “Let him go! If he doesn’t want to go swimming, don’t force him!”
“Oh come on, Lady!” The father from the bar shouted over to her. “What’s the point in having a pool party for your boys if they aren’t even going to go swimming!?”
SPLASH
Louis surfaced with a gasp, and then a defeated “aw man!”
“Are you okay kiddo?” Marinette asked. “You didn’t have your phone on you, right?”
“No, I’m fine.” He took off his soaked shirt and dropped it on the edge of the pool with a loud plop. “Just…didn’t want to get wet yet.”
“Dude, come on Isaac, don’t be such a turd!” Hugo chastised.
“He looked lonely!” Isaac argued.
“Whatever,” Louis said, defeated. “Just…don’t dunk me, okay?”
“No promises!”
Adrien frowned at the exchange as Louis swam over closer to his brother. “Isaac, Isaac, why is that name familiar? Is that the kid that’s been picking on Louis? Why is he here?”
“Oh,” Marinette smacked her head. “That’s what they were asking about!”
“What? Who?”
“A few weeks ago, the boys were asking me questions about what to do about a classmate people don’t get along with. They asked if they should include them in the party if they were inviting the rest of the class. I told them that would be the right thing to do, but I didn’t realize they were talking about Louis’ bully!” She groaned. “And it looks like the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.” She glared at Isaac’s dad at the bar.
Adrien smiled over at the pool. Both Hugo and Louis were laughing and seemed to be having a good time. It seemed Louis was already over his impromptu dunking. “Our kids are resilient. It’ll take more than that to bring them down.”
“They are strong.” Marinette breathed. “Stronger than me.”
It was then that Emma returned. “Hi mama, I’m back. Aunt Alya said I should check in with you because you were worried? I’m sorry I didn’t tell you where I was going.”
Marinette smiled at her. “It’s fine Emma. You told Aunt Alya, so someone knew. You just know I’m a basket case.”
Emma frowned at her mom. “You’re not a basket case. You’re just...worried?”
“Does that bother you? Do I make you feel trapped or smothered?”
Adrien stared at his wife in horror. Likewise, so did Emma. “No! Not at all!” She hugged her around the waist and added, “Nonnie Cheng worries about where I am too. She says it’s because you went missing, and it’s scared her ever since. I don’t want to scare you, mom.”
Marinette hugged Emma tightly and said, “I have the best kids in the world.”
“In that case,” Emma grinned. “Can I have some soda?”
“Sure, just tell Aunt Kagami what you want.”
“Thanks mom!” She beamed and scurried off.
“And no running!” Marinette called after. “Girl’s got my clumsy streak. She’ll break her neck.”
“Crisis averted it seems.” Said Adrien.
“For now,” Marinette narrowed her eyes. “But Ladybug never rests!”
Adrien pecked his wife on the lips. “Someone has to be responsible.”
“Hey pops!” Hugo called from the pool.
“What’s up?”
“We’re going to do a diving contest! You should join!”
“Yeah!”
“Come on Mr. Dupain-Cheng!”
“Show us some Chat Noir style!”
Marinette nudged him. “Go ahead. Show those kids how it’s done.”
He smirked. “Okay okay.” He took off his shirt and laid it on the lounger by their bags. Then he entered the pool from the shallow end, coming up behind the kids. “How does this diving contest work?”
“It’s easy!” Said Hugo, “we’re going to take turns coming up with unique ways to jump in the pool. Winner is the best technique, or most creative.”
“I got one!” Said a chubby kid. He climbed out of the pool and up on the diving board.
“Make room!” Someone called. “Cannon ball champion on the loose!”
“This is called ‘The Patrick Star’!” He bounced twice, getting real air before leaping out, parallel with the water, arms and legs spread out like a starfish.
And he collided with the water with a resounding clap, making everyone go, ‘ooo!’
The kid surfaced, his entire frontside pink. “Ow.”
The rest of the class laughed at him.
One by one, classmates would come up with a dive, though most were a lot more elegant than the first.
“I call this, ‘The Ladybug’.” A girl said. She ran and jumped, twisting in the air while throwing her arm, mimicking Ladybug’s yo-yo. She managed to say “bug out!” Before she hit the water. Marinette whistled. “She’s got my vote!”
“Come on, Pops,” said Hugo. “It’s your turn!”
“I don’t have a—“
“Just make something up! Go go!”
Adrien pulled himself out of the pool and headed toward the diving board, aware of the people watching, curious.
This was his twin boys’ special day. He had to be impressive. He had to be the cool dad.
He took a running start, falling into a front flip as he hit the diving board. His adult weight bowed the board with force, sending him up into the air. He curled tightly into a ball, using the momentum to rotate three times, before coming out of the ball and diving seamlessly into the water.
When he surfaced, the crowd of kids were going wild. They screamed and chanted “Dad! Dad! Dad!”
Obviously started by his boys.
Adrien beamed as he treaded water. Being Chat Noir was great, even with all the pain it had brought him. But being his kid’s hero was the absolute best.
But everything came to a screeching halt as Isaac, the butthole kid, let out a loud, “EWWW!!” Grabbing everyone’s attention. “What’s wrong with your dad’s back!? It’s all gross!”
Adrien slammed his eyes shut, all at once feeling self-conscious. But this was just a dumb teenager. Maybe he didn’t know any better. But before he could gather himself to calmly explain his scars, his boys spoke up for him.
“It’s scarring, you jerk,” said Louis.
“He got it from being a superhero, when he was just two years older than we are!” Added Hugo.
Isaac scoffed, “Chat Noir and Ladybug aren’t real superheroes! Not like the ones in America! All they do is rescue cats from trees and show up for charity events. They don’t even do anything anymore!”
Adrien sloppily backtracked, reaching out for the edge of the pool.
“Just yesterday, he caught a robber! That’s not nothing!” Hugo defended.
“Oh yeah?” Said Isaac, “My dad said that they used to fight supervillains, but they couldn’t stop the guy responsible for them! He said they’re losers and failures!”
“Hey Jean,” said one of the parents. “Tell your kid to shut up.”
Isaac’s father took a chug from his beer and shrugged. “Someone had to say it.”
“Monsieur,” said Ladybug with god-like patience. “I suggest you and your son leave. I don’t feel the need to play host to someone who could be so hateful and misinformed.”
“Misinformed?” The man, Jean, scoffed. “I was there. I saw the stream back then. I remember what it was like. The weekly akumas, classes and events always cancelled. The only reason they stopped is because Hawkmoth gave up. I don’t think you guys should be getting recognition anymore. Sorry, not sorry.”
“Mom?” Louis called from the pool.
Jean frowned, continuing. “The rest of us have to make a living working hard, every day. You and your husband just put on some skin tight leather and prance around. Now you’re set for life. It’s disgusting.”
“Hey man, if you don’t like it, you can leave,” said Alya. “No one invited you. I heard your son was only invited out of obligation.”
“Mom!” Louis called again.
“Marinette and Adrien suffered enough for a lifetime. Every day is a struggle! How dare you say otherwise!”
“MOM!” Louis screamed.
Marinette whipped her head over to the pool, seeing Adrien struggling to keep his head above water. Louis and Hugo were holding him up. She hurried over. “What happened? What’s wrong?”
“He’s having an attack!”
Tom rushed over, reaching his hands under Adrien’s arms, and pulled him out of the pool. He tried to set him on his feet, but he kept leaning forward, trying to lay down. His eyes were wide, but unfocused, as his breaths came rapidly.
Marinette tugged on his arm. “Come on, Kitty. Not here.” She called over to Chloe. “Is there a room we can borrow for a second?”
“Follow me!”
Louis broke off from the group, but Hugo and Marinette were quick to escort Adrien away from the party.
“Mom?” Emma asked, right as they were about to get on the elevator.
“It’s okay, Honey. Dad just needs a minute. Stay behind with Aunt Alya, okay?”
Emma nodded, though didn’t look convinced.
Chloe showed them to her room, where she quickly got a towel for Adrien to wrap up in.
Hugo and Marinette eased him down to sit on the couch. There, he slumped, his head resting on the back of the couch.
Louis found their room, cup in hand. “I brought a coke. I know that usually helps.”
Marinette sighed in relief. “Thank you baby,” she took the cup from him and put it in Adrien’s hand, then helped him take a sip.
They sat for a while, watching Adrien breathe slowly and take occasional sips from his drink.
“I’m so sorry boys,” Marinette looked to them sadly. “We didn’t mean to ruin your birthday.”
Hugo frowned at her. “What? You guys didn’t ruin anything. Isaac’s the one that pooped on our party.”
“Yeah,” added Louis, “and we were having a great time up until now. Don’t worry about it mom.”
Adrien very shakily brought the cup towards his face, and Marinette was quick to help, so he didn’t spill. “Dad’s going to be fine,” she explained. “Why don’t you boys get back to the party?”
“If it’s okay, I’d like to wait until dad feels a little better. I’d feel guilty if I left,” said Louis.
“Me too,” said Hugo. “And I need a few minutes to calm down to keep from punching Isaac in the face. What he said was dumb. He has no idea what you guys do.”
“…it shouldn’t have bothered me…” Adrien said, softly.
“Dad?”
“I’m okay,” he took a deep exhale. “Just…lost myself for a moment.”
Hugo hugged him tightly around the shoulders. “Love you, dad. Don’t worry about it.”
“I’m sorry for scaring you boys…and your friends. But I’ll be alright now.”
“You recovered pretty quickly,” Marinette noted.
“It’s because I have my big strong boys with me.” He wrapped his arms around his sons. “There was nothing to worry about.”
Except, there was.
Alya burst into the room, Chloe behind her, with a look of panic.
“Marinette, come quickly!”
“What? What’s wrong?”
“It’s Emma! She’s been akumatized!!”
As Emma watched her father be rushed out of the party, a stone fell into her gut. No matter how often this happened, no matter how good they got at catching the attacks, it still scared her when it happened.
She was torn between wanting to be with him, and not wanting to see that vacant expression on his face. Her mother said it was a coping mechanism he developed a long time ago, when they had been kidnapped. He just switched his brain off when he got overwhelmed, as to not experience pain. It only happened a few times a year, only in super stressful situations where he thought about his torture.
Emma wiped at her face as she looked over the party. Alya was chastising the adult man that had talked bad about her father, and Hugo and Louis’ friends were ripping into the kid that started the whole mess.
Everyone was angry and yelling.
“Emma?” Gabriel asked, resting a hand on her shoulder. “Are you alright, dear?”
“Oh, Grandfather…” She sniffed. “I’m just…scared.”
“Your father will be alright. It’s nothing physical, it’s just a mental state.”
“I know…” She screwed up her lips. “But I’m scared people are going to keep saying that stuff to him. Mom acts like I’m too young to understand what’s happening…but people are forgetting that they are real superheroes, and they act like they’re mascots. I’m scared this is going to happen again.” She rubbed at her damp eyes. “He doesn’t deserve it. Neither of them do.”
“You really love your parents, don’t you?”
“Of course! They’re the best!”
“Then, I have a plan. Would you be willing to help?”
“Of course, what is it?”
“Come with me, we’ll speak in private.”
Curious, Emma followed Gabriel into the hotel, down to a conference room. He locked the door behind them.
“You remember our little secret?”
“That I know you were Hawkmoth?”
“Yes. My plan requires me to come out of retirement, just this once…and to akumatize you.”
She looked startled. “You want to turn me into a supervillain?”
“Only if you agree to it, dear.” He pet her hair. “My goal is to make you a supervillain, so you can terrorize Paris and remind them of what Ladybug and Chat Noir used to do. I’ll be able to see through your eyes, so I can stop and undo any damage if something goes wrong.”
Emma crossed her arms. “You’d make mom and dad fight me?”
“Not fight you, rescue you.”
She frowned again, thinking about it. Then she nodded. “Let’s do it!”
Gabriel smiled at her, and opened his sports jacket, where Nooroo was hiding. “Nooroo, Dark Wings rise!”
In a flash of purple light, Hawkmoth had returned. Inside his cane, a little white butterfly fluttered.
Emma danced on her toes. “What kind of powers are you going to give me? I want to be pretty!”
He chuckled at her eagerness. “Of course, my sweet Emma.” He evilized the butterfly, and then coaxed it into the paw print bracelet she was wearing.
A purple mask appeared on her face.
“Mermaidia, I’m giving you the power of the seas. You may travel through any body of water, and turn those that oppose you into sea creatures. In exchange, you must give Chat Noir and Ladybug a taste of nostalgia. Do you accept these terms?”
“Absolutely, Hawkmoth.”
The dark purple fog encompassed Emma, turning the sweet blonde girl into a real mermaid, with purple hair, shimmering scales, and an abundance of glittering gold and jewels. In her hand, she held a trident.
Hawkmoth took a bottle of water from the table, and poured it on the floor.
Mermaidia stepped into the puddle, and disappeared.
“Regardless if you feel like you’re right, it’s still your opinion. And an opinion doesn’t give you the right to be an asshole, especially to people who are hosting this party!” Shouted Alya.
The rest of the parents were quietly watching the exchange, not really wanting to get involved. But they were also paying attention to a similar argument in the pool.
“You are a grown adult and a parent. It’s your job to teach your kid respect and kindness, two qualities I haven’t seen from him today.”
“Look lady, I know you’re friends with the Dupain-Cheng’s and all, but come on. It doesn’t bother you that they don’t work at all? What’s the point of them calling themselves superheroes anyway? They should just hang up the suits and get real jobs.”
“They. Can’t.” Alya emphasized. “Did you not just see what happened to Adrien? What if he was working and he had an attack? What then, smart guy?”
“He won’t have attacks if he was doing something with his life!”
“They are full time parents, and full time heroes! They do more than just ‘rescue cats and make celebrity appearances at charity events’! How can you be so ignorant?!”
“What did you call me!?”
Screams came from the pool, and the argument halted.
Mermaidia had made her appearance.
“I am Mermaidia! You all have grown too soft and comfortable! I’m here to remind you what it was like back when there were akuma!” She laughed, pointed her trident, and turned a child into a fish.
The party descended into madness, as Mermaidia shot rapidly. None of the teens in the pool escaped, and all turned into various fish and sea creatures.
Isaac turned into a starfish, and Emma stuck him to her arm. “You’re coming with me. I want you to see how wrong you were.”
Several adults had tried to escape as well, but Mermaidia stopped them in their run.
Only those who knew the identity of Hawkmoth, or were previous Miraculous users didn’t panic. Rather, they stood staring, confused. Alya backed away carefully, and escaped into the hotel. Whether Emma purposely let her go or not, she would never know.
“Emma?” Asked Sabine.
“I’m not Emma anymore, I’m Mermaidia!” She turned Isaac’s father into another starfish, and stuck him on her other arm. “You mocked my parents, but now, they’re the only ones that can save you! Ahahaha!”
“Emma, stop.” Tom demanded. “You’re a good girl. We can’t let what people say get to us. People will always have their opinions that we disagree with, but we can’t take it personally.”
“But I can take this personally!” She shouted back. “My father is the greatest man alive, and no one will doubt that when I’m through! Just you see!”
She turned the rest of the assembled party goers into creatures, before leaping into the pool and disappearing.
Ladybug, Chat Noir, Alya, Chloe, Louis, and Hugo all returned to the party, only to find a bunch of fish.
“What the…?”
“She’s called Mermaidia,” Alya clarified. “She’s turned everyone into sea creatures. She appeared from the water, so I think she can transport through liquid.”
“She totally can, dude,” said a sea turtle from the pool.
“Nino?” Asked Chat Noir.
“Cha dude, what do you think? Pretty fitting for me, huh?”
“Are you okay?”
“Totally. All the little dudes are too.” He gestured to the fish in the pool.
“Emma turned the kid and his dad who started the argument into starfish.” Said a sea-snake. “They’re on her arms. So be careful when you attack.”
“Luka?”
“Yep.”
“Where’s my mom and dad?”
“Over here!” Called a walrus. There was a crab next to him, waving a claw. “We’re fine, honey. Just save Emma!”
“Next question,” Said Ladybug, wielding her yo-yo angrily. “Where’s Gabriel?”
Chat Noir rested a hand on her shoulder. “Let’s focus on saving Emma, and then we’ll find him.”
She sighed. “You’re right, as always, kitty. However, I think we might need some help with this akuma.” She opened her yo-yo and reached inside, pulling out two octagonal boxes. Then she turned to Hugo and Louis. “I hoped to give you your presents later, and hoped you wouldn’t ever have to use them. But desperate times come desperate measures.”
Hugo and Louis smiled at each other, with excitement.
“Louis, my wise, observant, and cunning child, this is the Miraculous of the Snake. With it, you can turn back time an infinite amount of times in a five minute duration. You will use it for the greater good.”
“Sweet.”
“And Hugo, my brave, bold, and exuberant child, this is the Miraculous of the Turtle. With it, you can create an impenetrable shield. You will use it for the greater good.”
“Yes!”
“Louis, to transform, simply say ’Sass, Scales Slither.’ And Hugo, your phrase is ‘Wayzz, Shell On’.”
“Sass, Scales Slither!”
“Wayzz, Shell On!”
A flash of green and teal, and the boys were turned into superheroes. They high fived each other.
“The Reptile Boyz are back in town!” Hugo cheered.
“Really? ‘Boyz’ with a ‘Z’?” Chat Noir asked flatly.
“It’s cool, old man!” Said Louis.
“Alright team, let’s focus,” Ladybug said, a bit too fondly for the situation at hand. She took out her yo-yo, and looked for intel. There was a special report live from Nadja Chamack.
“—Mermaidia is the first Akuma in 20 years! It was thought that Hawkmoth had retired, but it seems he has one ace left up his sleeve. The akuma was last spotted at the Luxembourg park! Hopefully, Ladybug and Chat Noir are on their way! Again, this is a real akuma, so it is advised to stay indoors and away from water!”
“She’s at the park! Let’s go!”
This wasn’t nearly as scary as Emma thought it would be. In fact, she was having a lot of fun. Hawkmoth did advise her that she would be influenced by her anger, but that really didn’t seem to bother her. It was really fun to turn people into sea creatures.
Though, she did feel really guilty when she hit people that were crying in fear.
But that’s what her parents were here for! To undo all this! It was fine!
“I am Mermaidia! And Ladybug and Chat Noir are your only chance for salvation!”
“Now now Emma,” Chat Noir spoke from behind. “Go easy on us. We’re a little wet behind the ears.”
Emma had to stomp down the urge to run and hug her father, and instead declared. “There you are, Ladybug and Chat Noir! Ready to do battle?”
Ladybug simply crossed her arms. “If you don’t give up your akuma, you’re grounded.”
Mermaidia stomped her foot. “You can’t ground me if you can’t catch me!” And she leapt into the fountain.
“She’s escaping!” Cried Hugo.
“Quick, fan out! Look for sources of water, and call as soon as you get sight of her!”
This was not Hugo or Louis’ first time using a Miraculous. Every once in a while, Marinette and Adrien would allow the children to pick one out to try, and then they’d have a family game of tag out on the Paris rooftops. The rules were to stay safe, and to not allow the media to take pictures. And at the first sign of danger, they were supposed to go home and let Mom and Dad handle it.
So the boys were familiar with their powers, but boy, they were not ready for the anxiety of an Akuma attack.
They may have been older, but Emma was still the reigning champion of tag.
“Find anything?” Louis asked, crossing his brother.
“Not a scale,” said Hugo. “Have you activated your Second Chance yet?”
“No, but I will the second we find her. Then if she escapes, we can just reverse time.”
“Smart.” Then, Hugo’s eyes caught on something in the river. “Huh?”
“What?”
“How often do you think whales go down the Seine?”
“Uh…never?”
“There she is! She’s on top of it!” Hugo activated his distress beacon on his shield, making sure to keep up with Emma, but also stay out of sight.
“We have to play this carefully. She can literally jump into the water and disappear at any second.”
“Not if there’s no water to disappear into,” said Chat Noir, appearing from nowhere.
Hugo resisted a scream. “D-Chat! You’re too sneaky!”
“I’ve been doing this a while, kiddo. Ladybug’s not here yet?”
“No, what’s the plan?”
“I have half a plan…”
“Then it’s a good thing I have half of one too!” Said Ladybug, finally joining them. “After you sent your signal, I called the French Waterway Commission and had them close the lock she’s on.”
“What did what the what?” Hugo asked.
“The river is made up of locks,” explained Louis, “chambers that fill and empty with water so boats can travel. The ground isn’t level, and the water level changes.”
“So Ladybug basically had them dam up the section Emma’s on right now,” said Chat.
“But she can still travel through water, so once she reaches the dam, she’ll just abandon ship, er, whale.” Hugo observed. “So then what?”
“Then we put my plan into action,” Chat cracked his knuckles, and stealthily made his way to the river bank.
Louis and Hugo watched in fascination as Chat called his Cataclysm and touched the water. In a boiling wave, it rolled quickly past Emma, evaporating as it went. It didn’t even have time to settle, just went up in a cloud of steam.
The whale that Emma was on run ashore, and she came to a halt. “What?”
“Nowhere to run now, little girl!” Ladybug called.
Mermaidia jumped from the back of the whale and landed in the sand. It wasn’t even damp. Chat had literally evaporated all the water in that section of the river.
“Second Chance!” Louis activated his bracelet. And just in time too, as Mermaidia shot a beam at Ladybug, and turned her into a dolphin. “Second Chance!”
Time restarted, and Louis shouted. “Ladybug, dive!”
Ladybug dove out of the way, missing the three shots Mermaidia took.
“I’m not going to take it easy on you just because you’re my mother!” Emma shouted. “So let’s show Paris what a real superhero looks like, hmm?”
“Oh you are so grounded when this is over, little lady!” She dodged another blast, and called for her Lucky Charm.
Hugo called for Shelter while she glanced around, looking for the purpose of the tennis racket her Miraculous had bestowed upon her.
Then it dawned on her.
A grounding wasn’t enough for her naughty child. Oh no. This called for the big guns.
The second Hugo’s Shelter faded, she shot out her yo-yo, catching Emma around the arms, and yanked her to lay across her leg. Hugo and Louis peeled the captive starfish off, while Chat took the trident. All the while Mermaidia wriggled around, fighting against the yo-yo string.
“No akuma in the trident, my lady.” Chat Noir shrugged.
“Oh, I’ll get it out of her.” Ladybug raised the tennis racket. “Where’s the akuma at, Emma?”
“This is cheating!”
“Okay, you asked for it.” And Ladybug brought the tennis racket down on her bottom, once, twice, three times before Emma cried out. “Okay okay! It’s in my bracelet! Stop! Stop!”
Chat broke the bracelet, freeing the butterfly, as Ladybug set her crying daughter down in the sand.
She caught and purified the butterfly, and removed everyone from the bank of the river before casting her cure.
Emma Dupain-Cheng returned, pouting, and still rubbing her behind. “I was just trying to help…”
“Where’s your Grandfather?”
“He’s in a conference room at the hotel. But don’t be mad at him, please…”
Before Ladybug could yell more, Isaac and his father approached her. “Uh, Ladybug?”
“Yes?”
“Look, I wanted to—we wanted to apologize. Thank you for rescuing us, and I’m sorry. I guess I had forgotten what it was like having akumas around. You still stopped Hawkmoth, right? Well…until today…”
“Hawkmoth is a friend of ours now,” Ladybug clarified. “He’s paid for his crimes, but today has shown that he hasn’t quite learned the right way to deal with problems. I believe he was well intentioned, but we will be having words.”
Isaac’s father nudged his son. “You want to say anything?”
Isaac shyly looked at the family and admitted, “thank you for inviting to the party. No one invites me to things.”
“Yeah, well, work on your boundary issues, and maybe it’ll happen more often,” said Louis.
“If you guys want to head back to the hotel, I think there’s still time for cake!” Said Chat, with optimism.
After the Miraculous cure restored the party, everyone gathered again and lunch was served.
But, the Dupain-Chengs were in the conference room. Marinette and Adrien frowned at their youngest and Gabriel.
“Now, son--” Gabriel began.
“What were you thinking?” Adrien interrupted.
“I was thinking that Paris needed a little reminder of all the hard work you guys did.”
“Yeah, cool,” sniped Marinette. “Except now they think you’re out of retirement, and that’s a huge reminder that we didn’t stop you!”
Gabriel took the brooch off. “Then here. Make it official. Tell them that this akuma was my swan-song and I made it to surrender.”
Marinette took the brooch regardless, and put it in her bag. “I don’t know what I’ll say to the media. They’ll want to know who you are, and if you’re going to prison…and akumatizing your own granddaughter?”
“I told him I was okay with it!” Said Emma. “I knew what I was getting into. It’s not that big of a deal!”
“Not that big of a deal!?”
There was a knock on the door, as Hugo and Louis peeked their heads in. “There you are, Grandfather!”
“Hi boys,” he smiled at them, softly.
The twins pushed passed their parents to stand in front of him, arms crossed, just like Marinette and Adrien.
“What you did was terrible,” Said Louis.
“So awful,” echoed Hugo.
“You could have permanently hurt or traumatized people.”
“Done thousands of dollars of property damage.”
Gabriel sighed. “I know…I just—“ But he was cut off as the boys wrapped him up in a tight hug. “What?”
“Thanks for the coolest present ever!”
“Yeah! Mom gave us our Miraculous, but the chance to use them on a real akuma!?”
“Hey!” Shouted Emma. “I was the akuma! No thanks for me!?”
They gave her a noogie. “Thanks twerp.”
“You’re a twerp!”
Marinette and Gabriel met eyes. He gave a sheepish shrug. “I know I’m bad. But I deeply love my family.”
She then gave up trying to be angry. “Alright fine. I admit it. It was fun to fight an akuma again. But it’s over now!”
Adrien shook his head fondly. “Thanks for meddling dad.”
“Your welcome, son.”
“I want cake!” Hugo shouted.
“Cake time!”
“Yay cake!”
“No cake for Emma. Only broccoli.” Marinette clarified. “You were naughty.”
“Aw man!!”
--
AND THAT’S THE END!
Oh my word this story got AWAY from me! It was only supposed to be maybe 20 chapters when I first started on it? But here we are, a year and a half later, and over 200,000 words! I kinda can’t believe I’m done!
Anyways, thank you all for sticking around through all the heartache. I appreciated every single review and like. And one parting question: What was your favorite part?

I'm so incredibly nervous today.
I'm heading to the doctors again tomorrow morning. Because while my eye has been twitching a less lately, I'm losing lots and lots of hair...I'm talking round bald spots on my head and a little hole in my eyebrow. And I'm not gonna lie, the only self-esteem I have sits in my hair so I did end up crying for like half an hour when I noticed.
But I've had this a lot of times before, usually a couple months after a family member died. Since I was 10 years old. It's stress, it has always been. But I always denied help because I preferred living in repression.
Last time I had it this bad was 2014 when I started my job training and my grandma had just passed away. Too much changed too quickly for me then, I even had bald spots in my eyebrows and lashes. Then again in 2016 when my grandpa died...but we weren't that close and it didn't get THAT bad.
It was always thing I figured I could handle. Of course losing your grandparents, your aunt or your great-grandma is hard on you. Of course I eventually grew into the changes of being an adult, owning a car, working 40 hours a week and studying. I always had a hard time with changes.
But this time I don't know what to do about it or how to handle it...and this time I have a new doctor who's also denying me help. This isnt a thing that I will magically grow into or I will get used to.
No, a colleague who I thought was a close friend turned against me, drove me into the most uncomfortable situation at work, talked ill about me with colleagues and made up lies, went behind my back for minor things despite me doing everything for her...it was 4 against 1, and no one will believe you when the other person starts crying like a little bitch. I can't trust any of my colleagues anymore. With Corona and everything being cancelled, nothing being allowed, I sit at work 9 hours a day on my own, I don't feel comfortable talking to the others except my boss. But with everyone except me being in home office (I need the files at work 🤷🏻‍♀️), I barely see a person. Aside from the 42 hours I spend at work, I go check on my high risk parents, my high risk grandma and have to listen to them calling me out for needing time to myself. This isnt gonna miraculously change. But I also have no desire to talk to them anymore...they're dead to me.
Sure I took my 3 weeks off now but that also means I only have 10 vacation days for the rest of the year. Which is gonna be hard if this doesn't get better.
I'm not gonna go back to work in May and not be affected by any of this, it's gonna stay the same because my colleagues are perfectly happy that they told me off and the way they treated me.
If he doesn't see that I actually need help when I go there tomorrow, the only chance I have is finding a new doctor. Which is hard because I called a bunch of people and they all said they can't take me on as a new patient.
So yeah...I'm super super nervous and I don't really know what to tell him tomorrow because his last advice was that I have to ignore it and learn to live with it.

tell me about some fond memories of your childhood; or, alternatively: tell me some things you like about italy (i am lying on my stomach cupping my face while propped up on my elbows with my feet absentmindedly kicking in the air while i listen)
ok so i told you about one of grandma’s sisters being a farmer and giving us free cherries (the fattest, darkest, juiciest cherries i may add. they are the best in the world) and as kids we would visit her quite often, which included spending time with their son/my mother’s cousin which i always adored so much as a kid, some people have a sibling complex, i used to have a first cousin once removed complex. anyway every time we would go visit and it happened to have rained the day before and there were still puddles around my cousin would take my brother and i and just make us a little makeshift raft with a piece of spare wood and a little sail and then make it float on those puddles. i can still smell the motor oil from their farming vehicles in the shed where my cousin would drill a hole in the wood for the sail bit or the musty smell of grapes of the room they would store them to sell them directly to people. i remember my great aunt making me some pasta in broth and adding it some kind of melting cheese (that is probably only vaguely more cheese than a kraft slice lol). at her house was the only place back then that received this local tv channel where i could watch some cartoons, including saint seiya, that i loved sooooo much but it was always the same damn episodes and i never knew how the story continued until it was broadcast again on a major channel when i was in middle school
in summer my father used to take my brother and i up to this little village up the hills (or mountains i guess) where my uncle used to have a cafè and spent many days swimming in the river in the company of my cousins, and got so many free candies and free plays at pinball. and i felt very cool bc as part of the family i was allowed to go to the back of the store too (this little village is very quaint and lovely and i will bring you here once you visit me)
most of summer days spent at my paternal grandparents’ house included having a midnight snack (usually a slice of bread with salt and oil. with green olives and tiny pickled onions when we wanted to be fancy) and then sitting on the steps in front of the house with my grandpa telling us stories while watching the moon
up until i was 17 we went on vacation on the seaside at the same location and renting the same apartment, i was with my maternal grandparents since with my mother working they were the only one who could take us somewhere for so long and especially when we were younger they made us wake up at 7 as if we were still in school (insane, we were on vacation!!) (double insane thinking about me waking up so early in the morning, i know it sounds fake!) but the best thing about it is that i used to have a huge fascination for when the trash truck would come (around 7:30) to empty the bins so at least i got to watch that lol. our apartment was like a 7 minutes walk from our beach resort and my fave thing about it was walking past this house who had a passiflora on their fence. i’m in love with those flowers and i would pick them up if one would fall on the ground i loved doing that walk in the early morning bc the air was still crisp and it smelled so nice from all the plants of the surrounding houses and hotels. when my mother would visit (coming one day after a morning shift and staying till the day after before leaving for her afternoon shift) we would take a slightly different route bc she liked to buy a newspaper. loved when my father visited too, with my parents around that usually meant more ice creams and more money for foosball or the couple of arcade games the cafè had. we spent soooo sooo much money for the tokens needed for those arcade games (and often all of the kids will play together or at least watch). i got the mame emulator just to be still able to play cadillac and dinosaurs sometimes. i’m a monster at foosball bc i played it so much with my father and we used a “no mercy” policy, he wouldn’t hold back only bc we were kids... and at some point when i was older i became better than him. and the year they switched cadillac and dinosaurs for another arcade game (that i forgot about) it was such a sad day. also phone booths to call home were still a thing back then and in the evening we would often go to them and queue to phone home or some other relatives... i miss going on vacation there so dearly

Dear Gus & Magnus,
When I was around 10 years old, we took a family vacation to Iuka, Mississippi in the northeasternmost part of the state. Papa was in search of his roots. We went to a tiny cemetery outside of town where his great-great-grandparents were buried next to each other. I think they were the last of our direct line buried there because their daughter married a man named Choate who would die in 1862 fighting as a private in the Mississippi Confederate Infantry. My dad loved the narrative that – with her husband dead – his great-grandmother got on a wagon with her children and headed to greener pastures in Arkansas. One of those children grew up to become a kind of hero to my father, even though he died before Dad was born.
When I was around 16 years old, I used to tell my parents I planned to stay at a friend’s house as a way to skirt a potential curfew. On one of those nights, Nene and Aunt Laura were away at church camp. My father thought he had the house to himself, but I eventually came home. Dad had already gone to bed, but the lights in the den were still on. On the carpeted floor, a yellow legal pad filled with his handwriting lay in front of his cushy blue recliner. My dad was always quick to give me instructions, but he never shared with me his personal doubts or abstract reflections. I was certain the legal pad was full of such elusive content on that night when I unexpectedly entered what my father thought was his private space for the evening. I felt foreign standing there in my own home that night. I knew that scanning the pages qualified as an intrusive act, but I couldn’t help myself. My curiosity about the most important and mysterious man in my life proved too great. And the smell of bourbon lingered in the air, so I knew he wouldn’t wake up any time soon.
I was hardly a literary creature at the time, but I recognized my dad’s handwritten sentences on that yellow pad as the beginnings of an historical novel based on the lives we had searched for when we took that family vacation to Iuka. I’d never seen my father express himself artistically before, but there in that house, thinking he was alone, he had decided to begin working on a novel.
It took me years to work up the courage to tell him I’d seen the pages. Not until after cancer had humbled him considerably. He was embarrassed I had known about the book. He didn’t know how to write a novel, he said, as he sipped at the ginger ale he hoped would settle his stomach’s reaction to the chemotherapy.
When I became a writer myself, I always thought I would get those pages when he died and finish the novel for him, but the notepads perished in a house fire before I ever got to see them again. My father’s only real artistic expression, gone forever.
But on my way home from Huntsville, I was satisfied to see that my great-great-great-grandparents are still here in this tiny cemetery. And in any case, I don’t know how to write a novel either.
Dad.

Day 7
7th July - What did you do during the summer when you were a young child?
Okay so until 2nd grade all I did were summer camps organised in my preschool and I visited all my relatives.
I loved to go and stay at my aunt's house with my paternal grandparents. She lived out of station so it was a great getaway for me back then. Plus her son, my cousin and me we went feral whenever we met. We were basically inseparable, still are haha but now also busy with our own shit.
After that in 3rd, mom got transferred to somewhere else and sports were my thing. I played the whole freaking day. Badminton, lawn Tennis and swimming were my LOVEES. But I also played squash and table tennis. Then I played with my colony friends. Hide and seek and what not.
I remember having this journal where I *designed* dresses haha. Just those days.
And I ate A LOT.
And 3rd to 5th grade, my school was awesome. They gave no holiday assignments and the vacations were for two whole months. Life was a cakewalk lmao.
But yes these are good times too. When you get to actually work for what you want. It's a good feeling to earn something.

Inside Johnny Depp and Y/N Y/L/N’s Stunning $1.9M New Orleans Home! - Article by Rita Joseph, November 2018
A casually dressed Y/N opens the door on a bright and sunny but chilly Friday afternoon. The Golden Globe nominated actress is just as stunning makeup free and in an old college sweatshirt and jeans and her hair pulled back from her face as she is in expensive designer gowns and jewelry; right behind her is her husband Johnny Depp and their dog Jack Sparrow. “Hey, come on in!” Immediately, I’m greeted with warmth and the scent of cinnamon. The entrance is narrow, and there is a wooden table next to the door with a small bowl which hold two sets of car keys, but there are two doorways across from each other: on the left is the sitting room, and on my right is the dining room with its painted blue walls contrasted with white curtains and a chandelier hanging above the table.
We start with the sitting room which holds a lime green couch adding a nice touch of color against the white walls. There is also a gold ceiling lamp and a glass coffee table. “This is our sitting room, but we use it for a little bit of everything, like a storage room or sometimes a guest would want to sleep in here when they visit because it’s so quiet as opposed to upstairs because we still have teenagers, and there’s a lot of banging around in the morning getting ready for school, or we’ll have friends over.” Those friends would include Brad and Angelina (before the divorce), Tim Burton and Eva Green, Helena Bonham Carter, and Depp’s Hollywood Vampires band mates Joe Perry and Alice Cooper. What great company to keep!
From the sitting room we head into the dining room. “We actually painted the dining room a week after we moved in. All of the walls in the house were white and we thought it was way too much, so we decided to paint it a different color,” Depp said. “The tables and chairs actually belonged to Y/N’s sister and we bought it off her in ‘07 when she moved to another city, and that couch in the other room we bought after Nathan and Noelle’s first birthday.” “It was their favorite thing to play on when they were babies. So hard to believe that was 2004,” Y/L/N reminisced. The blue walls are decorated with a few of Depp’s paintings with a molding of a deer’s head that Y/N got at a flea market.
As we exit out of the dining room, I get a good look at the other side of the wall facing the staircase as we go into the living room. The entire wall is covered in a black and white photo of a jazz band taken at a Mardi Gras parade a few years ago, and there is a nice sized wine cabinet which is the size of a recording booth with only one bottle of wine in it; Johnny has cut back on drinking, but still enjoys a glass of wine every now and then. “I’m not as young as I used to be, and I’m runnin’ around on stage all night so I want to be as healthy as possible when I’m performing and to see the rest of my babies grow up.” The rest of his babies would be Nathan and Noelle, fraternal twins born in 2003. Their oldest kids include 26-year-old Star Wars star John Christopher III, born in 1992, and 22-year-old The Greatest Showman actress Camille.
The living room is gorgeous but simple; an all white leather reclining sectional with built in cup holders surrounds a small wooden coffee table in front of the fireplace which has a flat screen television above it. There’s a chandelier in this room as well, similar to the one in the dining room, and the wooden table behind the sectional breaks up the whiteness of the room. “This is where everyone spends the majority of their time. Morning, noon, night, weekends, we are here, with the older kids when they come over for dinner on Sundays. They’ll come over in the afternoon and stay the whole day.” Even with the oldest kids moved out and with houses of their own, the Depps are still a close knit family with Camille and John Christopher, or Three as he’s called by friends and family, living minutes away. Depp family favorite weekend activity? “Cooking breakfast together and then going to the nearby park or to a flea market or farmers’ market. There’s always something to do do in the city so you’re never bored,” the Dark Shadows actor explained.
When I asked them why they decided to move away from Hollywood, it was an easy answer. Y/L/N said: “we wanted to give them a normal childhood, and you can’t really have that when there are people taking pictures of you in your school uniform heading into school.” The couple moved to the Big Easy before Johnny began filming the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie in 2002, and speaking of cooking, the kitchen is next, and it is every homeowner’s dream. The white marble kitchen island doubles as a sink with its clear backed chairs and a sleek gold light fixture hanging above. A few feet away is a rectangular table with four shelves.
“This is my favorite room. I’m always cooking, and this is pretty much multipurpose room. We do game nights, eat meals, the twins do homework here.” When I joked about the chandeliers, the two only laughed, with Y/N adding, “you’re gonna be seeing a lot of chandeliers in this house. I loved them as a child and always wanted one. Or thirteen. We actually got each of them at Home Depot or Wayfair, and they look good in every room.” At this point, Jack Sparrow begins barking and runs to the front door (the dog, not Depp who plays the beloved swashbuckler). Noelle and Nathan are home from school and they follow the dog into the kitchen.
They are taken aback as they take in the camera man, as they wash their hands in the sink before reaching for the snacks. “Oh, I thought this was happening tomorrow,” Noelle remarks as she reaches for a bag of trail mix from a cabinet and a bottle of water from the fridge. “You have drivers ed tomorrow,” Y/N instantly in mom mode. “And your uniforms are hanging up in the laundry room.” Johnny and Y/N are athlete parents with Nathan playing on his school football team while Noelle is a cheerleader. After getting an okay from the twins to tour their rooms, we head upstairs after the examining the wall of pictures in the upstairs hallway.
Some pictures that have never been made public: a tired looking Y/N in a hospital bed after giving birth to their children, followed by a procession of school portraits and certificates from school. John Christopher and Camille’s graduation and prom pictures. Family outings at the near by park which featured a heavily pregnant Y/N circa early 2000s. A picture of Depp’s late mother Betty Sue and Y/N’s Aunt Claudia smiling as they played cards. And then there were the family portraits.
One that started with John Christopher as a newborn in 1992, then adding Camille in 1996, followed by the twins in 2003. Black and white photos of grandparents and great-grandparents, photos of Depp and Y/L/N ancestors, and the framed Polaroids of Y/N and Depp in Vegas on their honeymoon, after they eloped in summer 1991 after less than a year of dating, and I had to ask the question that’s still on peoples’ minds years later: why elopement? “We were young and didn’t want to go through the process of planning a wedding. I proposed a day after meeting her aunt and uncle and two days later we were married.” You remember that day like it was yesterday; you and Johnny went on vacation to visit your aunt and uncle so they could meet him for the first time as your boyfriend. They loved him, of course and at that point, you’ve only been dating for four months and it was getting serious to the point where Johnny called you his future wife and mother of his children in interviews (which probably wouldn’t be too distant in the future since your period was late). He proposed the night before you left for L.A. after your aunt and uncle had gone to bed and you immediately said yes.
After settling back home, you two took a road trip to Las Vegas the very next day and twenty seven years later, you’re still very much in love. I asked them why move to New Orleans, to which Depp answered: “Y/N was filming a movie here after Three was born, and when I came to visit her with the baby, I think it was during Mardi Gras, we had an amazing time. The food was just incredible, and the people were amazing, and no one gave a fuck about who we were. Once Camille was born, we kept coming back as much as we could, and we decided we wanted to build a life here.” The first room we enter after reaching the landing is the master bedroom. The walls are painted a nice gray, and, you guessed it, a chandelier. “This is our room, where we rarely get any sleep because we have the kids always running in and out for whatever reason--”
“And we also climb into bed with them too,” Noelle interjects. “And other times we just do it to annoy them,” Nathan backs up his sister’s statement. The bathroom is gorgeous with a white tiled floor; the shower stall is in a corner next to Y/N’s vanity, and across from it is a jacuzzi tub set next to a window that had a few candles along the edge, and adjacent from the tub is a double sink. “This is our bathroom, and we do more unwinding here than the bedroom. Whenever one of us comes home from filming or press tours or whatever, we’re in the tub, probably falling asleep.” Next we move to Noelle’s room and it’s something out of a Pintrest board
Pretty pastel pinks and fluffy white rugs and throws with a nice swing chair in a corner, which she calls her reading nook. Black and white framed pictures of her mom from her modeling days as a teenager and pictures of friends and family fill in space on her walls. “Every piece of furniture came from either Wayfair or Overstock. They have such great deals on furniture and rugs, and I’m always scrolling through their websites.” Nathan’s room is a typical boy’s room. It’s a cool gray scale vibe with a portion of the wall behind his bed painted black and there are shelves on either side of the bed filled with books, picture frames and sports trophies. “Dad and I repainted this wall almost a month ago. The sun shines so bright in the mornings and it’s always a pain, and I love when a room is cold and dark.”
He admits to sleeping with the fan on at night, even in the winter. There’s a sleek desk in the corner that holds a laptop and a stack of books, and next to it, against the wall, is a decent sized book shelf. Nathan likes to read, a trait that he and the rest of his siblings picked up from their parents. He and Noelle are having a competition to see who could read the most books by the end of the year. The next room is a low ceilinged guest room which is where Depp’s mother Betty Sue lived her last days.
“This used to be Grandma Betty’s room. Jack comes in here all the time, and we’d find him just laying on the bed,” Nathan says, touching a portrait of his grandmother. The next room is pretty much a music studio, as there’s a drum kit, bass guitars, electric guitars, and a keyboard. The walls are covered with the kids’ school art projects over the years. The room is frequented by Depp’s band the Hollywood Vampires whenever they blow into town, where they write and record new music, and Noelle receives guitar lessons from her father and Cooper. The last room we reach is a game room/homemade home movie theater.
There’s a nice flat screen on the wall and plastic storage bins containing video games, game controllers, and DVDs; Noelle used the room to host a sleepover a few weeks ago, and Nathan and his friends used it to launch water balloons at the neighborhood boys during the summer, which he realizes he makes a mistake in admitting this in front of his parents. Finally we come to the last part of the tour, the backyard which holds a patio and a swimming pool. “I know it doesn’t feel like it now, but we were using the pool up until a week ago. During the spring and summer months, we’ll invite the neighbors over for barbecues or they’ll invite us.” It’s November, and Thanksgiving is a week away. The entire Depp family plans on spending the holiday at the Kentucky ranch Johnny bought for his mother with his siblings. Before we leave, Y/N offers me and the camera man Justin a snack of green tea and cinnamon rolls ushering us politely out of the door so they could have dinner and get ready for Nathan’s game.
The video is now up on architecturaldigest.com and on our YouTube channel.
The video is uploaded on YouTube to great reviews; the viewers love how down to earth and humble you are and that you didn’t spend a ton of money on furniture and other unnecessary miscellaneous items in the house while others wish they had a room like Noelle’s when they were teenagers. The comments range from: i’m a simple person. i see johnny depp’s name and i click on it-user26. i love how they live in a normal looking house in a normal neighborhood. i’m so glad they raised their kids outside of hollywood because john christopher and camille are the most humble nepo kids in the industry and always acknowledge their privilege. can’t say the same for others.- user89. When is Noelle gonna start her modeling career?- user85. i love how close they all are and that they live so close together to where they can get together on the weekends.- user63

Hidden: Chapter 15
Chapter 15: Always and Forever
(Eve)
Eve or Natasha was staring at the amber liquid drink in her mug. She had been into deep sorrow of heartbreak. Ever since he left, she hasn’t left the room. Today, it was my first time being out of the room since that day. Natasha couldn’t tell what day it was. To her, it felt like years had passed by. Maybe this was for the best. They both are generations apart. She’s from the future and Eren is from here. What business does she have here anyways? The grey eyed woman should focus on trying to get back her timeline before encountering her grandmother or grandfather. Shit, if grandpa Levi finds out, she’ll get a beating in their spars.
Eve took a sipped from her mug. She sighed then pulled out some change to pay the ale. The Ackerman from the future couldn’t enjoy her beer. Once she paid, the woman started to walk away to who knows where.
Her life before ending up in the past was basically what the life of an New Yorker heiress was. There were parties, going to the best prestigious private schools, and of course any high class social events. It was every debutante’s dream. She never liked it but it was her medicine in dealing with her ill grandmother and her PTSD.
Natasha remembered that tragic day when she lost her mother and baby brother. Her father had died a year before their death. He was an assassin like their ancestors were before. When she was a little girl, Eve had wanted to follow her father’s footsteps including her grandfather’s, but they never allowed. It had frustrated her. Both her grandparents had told her to just be a normal girl with careless dreams and living life to the fullest. Whenever she had visited Paradis during her vacations, there were many arguments between her and grandpa Levi and grandma Historia. They see things way differently than her. At first, she doesn’t get why they are preventing her from choosing the path she wanted to take.
The last time she saw them, a huge fight had led their relationship delicately.
(Flashback)
It was a normal evening in the palace. She was spending time with her grandparents and her aunts and uncle along with her younger cousins. Everyone was enjoying their meal. Usually the kitchen staff cooked their meals, but tonight her grandmother Queen Historia decided to cook. At one time, the staff gave up in preventing her grandmother from doing anything, especially cooking.
“Natasha, I’m so happy that you decided to make time to visit us from your studies at the University.” Her grandmother, Historia began to speak.
The young woman glanced up at her grandmother. Queen Historia was in her late 50’s about to reach her 60’s soon. Her grandma still has her angelic beauty that she was known for as her age hasn’t ruined her beauty. Her blonde hair shined with some silver strands but she was still a goddess, well in the eye’s of the public.
“Well, I need to be away from the city life in NYC for a while.” The American sipped her wine. She heard a familiar scoff from the head of the table on the right. Her grandfather, the once famous Captain Levi Ackerman of the Survey Corps and Assassin Master of the Brotherhood Paradis stared at her. Natasha frowned then set her glass of wine with a bit of force.
“Ok, what now, grandpa?” Her tone sounded annoyed from her own grandfather’s attitude.
“I’m not stupid for the real reason you decide to come to visit all of the sudden.” Levi glared at her oldest granddaughter. Oh great, here we go again. The college student rolled her eyes at him since she knows where this is going.
“Praise tell oh dear grandfather.” Her sarcastic tone was showing. Now, the rest of the family groaned as they knew there would be a fight between Levi and Natasha.
Historia sighed but continued sipping her wine. Levi was now in his 70s. His face had aged well even though he had scars on his face during the war.His once raven hair was now grey. No matter how he looked, Historia had and always will love her husband. They both had gone through so much that their bond was too solid to be broken. There were times in their marriage, both older couples did unthinkable things that would have caused their relationship to end. But their love story will be known for centuries.
“You came here not because of your studies. Instead, you’re here from another scandal you decided to get away from. You can lie to us, but your grandmother and I know what happened in New York.” Levi said in a stern tone which the atmosphere became heavy.
Before Natasha could say anything, her uncle interrupted the conversation.
“Dad, I don’t think it’s the best time right now. The children are here.” her uncle reminded Levi that the younger kids are here listening to this argument. Natasha adores her uncle since he was the most understanding out of his siblings. Her aunts are a bit too modesty. They always reminded her to be ladylike with modest manners. Do her wrong she loved all her family, but they always find something that’s not up to their standards. It just drives her so insane. The only reason she is still visiting them because they are the only thing close to her father, Atticus Ackerman the eldest child of her grandparents.
It’s not her fault that she was raised in a society that you can express freely to be who you are. But in her case, she can be a bit too wild even her grandma Virginia Stark nee Potts aka Pepper, the CEO of Stark Industries. In a way, her nana had once told her she was just like her grandfather, the late Tony Stark who she had never got to meet. What she learned about him. He was wild, eccentric, very intelligent that he had the tendencies of hacking into governments top projects to benefit his cases when he gets into trouble or just cause. After all, her being a smart mouth had always ended up into an argument with Levi as he’s the type not taking anyone’s bullshit even hers.
“Tch. We’ll have to cut this family dinner short. Natasha, you will meet me and your grandmother in my office in 10 minutes.” He said as his chair was pushed back to get up. He glanced at his wife who nodded at him and got up too. They walked out of the dining room. Now only her uncle, aunts, cousins were still here.
“Tsk tsk niece. If you would have acted a lady not a hussy-” Aunt Frieda Ackerman said. Uncle Erwin hissed at his older sister. “Frieda that’s enough! What’s got into?”
Frieda scoffed then got up and called her son who’s 10 years old to follow her. The little blonde child obediently goes after his mother. Meanwhile Natasha was looking at her meal from trying not to lose control and snapped at her auntie. Her other aunt had been too quiet. The good thing, she’s not too bad compared to her Aunt Frieda. Aunt Krista finally broke her silence.
“Sweetheart, she doesn’t mean that. She’s just worried about you.” Her blonde aunt was always the peacekeeper in the family. Her hand was on her huge belly as she’s not that long to be due. Her husband, Aaron Arlert, one of brightest soldiers in his generation and the son of the late Commander Armin Arlert of the Survey Corps and Master Assassin; his wife former Marley’s Warrior and Assassin Master who died long ago too. Both of them had passed on due to the Titan’s curse. Her auntie is excited for her first child.
“Are you sure? She seems so convinced I’m ruining our family’s reputation again. She needs to stop being so bitter around everyone just because of her marriage problems.” Natasha mumbled. Both her uncle and aunt gave a disappointing look as it was uncalled for her to bring up Frieda’s marriage issue with some high class dickhead who happens to be a Marleyan. Natasha believes her estranged uncle is only using her aunt because she’s a princess, the next heir to the throne. By law, it was supposed to be Natasha as she’s the only surviving child of the late crowned Prince Atticus. Since the government officials had passed a law to prevent her from taking the throne after her grandmother either abdicated  the throne or passed away.
To be honest, she doesn’t want the throne. If she chooses between the throne or being the next CEO of Stark Industries then she’ll prefer being the next CEO. If there was a third choice it’s neither. The Eldian-American wanted to find her own path. She doesn’t like her future being planned for her. She’s a free-spirited woman, but to certain relatives apparently she’s a rebel brat.
“Natasha.” He scolded at his niece. Natasha sighed and got up from her chair. “Goodnight by the way if I don’t get to see you for the rest of the night.” Before leaving she goes to hug her twin cousins from her uncle who are around 7 years old. Both boys hugged her back and said goodnight as she finally walked out of the family dinning room.
The brunette walked through silent hallways which in her opinion it gave her the creeps sometimes. Some halls have guards on duty. The heiress just ignores them since her grandparents are probably waiting for her to scold. Ugh! She’s passed 18 and yet; they treat her like some misbehaving kid. Whatever had happened on the video was not what it seems. The media loves to fuck her over since she’s a royal and a Stark. They enjoyed milking out every ‘scandal’ she has been in.
The grey eyed heiress made it to the doors of grandpa’s office. The old man had been retired for a long time after the war. Seriously, why can he find some hobby instead of getting up on her case. She grabbed the handles to open the doors. Her grandparents are already sitting down while sipping their cup of tea.
“Tch. Finally, you were taking your time to get here.” Levi said as he set his cup of tea on the coffee table.
She rolled her eyes at his comment then went to sit on the couch to glance at both older couples. Her eyes landed on the already cold cup of tea for her to drink. The heiress doesn’t mind since it’s basically drinking iced tea without sweetening or added flavor. She waited for them to speak while sipping the cup.
Historia took a glimpse at Levi then back to her granddaughter. “Sweetheart, we’re worried for you. This is not just any light scandal you have been in. This scandal involved you and some man being taped while having sex. Of all the things, this I can’t tolerate anymore of your wild party life. You forget you’re a royal and a member of the Ackerman clan.”
The younger Ackerman wanted to scream from the frustration she felt. That tape was not how they think it happened. She didn’t know the guy was filming her. It's a crime for what that asshole did, but of course they don’t understand. Her grandparents are from different generations with different perspectives than hers.
Don’t they understand how this made her feel? On that morning, she was watching tv at her apartment eating cereal when the headlines started to show. She felt sick and betrayed. How could he do this to her? The guy, Darren, is nice and charming. She thought he was different. Nope, her taste in men is like a pattern of bad karma. Natasha had texted him but didn’t respond. When she decided to go to his place, he was busy entertaining some friends. Oh the rage in her came out. She made everyone leave and once it was just her and him; there were arguments and some plates thrown at him. Low key she could have given an old Ackerman ass kicking, but that would lead to getting arrested.
After the drama, she didn’t come out of her apartment due to paparazzi and noisy people. Her poor grandmother was expecting her to visit. It was too much to the point her PTSD returned. Her psychiatrist suggested she go to the safest place for her. So she packed up to spend some time with her paternal grandparents and prayed they would listen and understand her what she was going through. Sadly, none of those didn’t happen. Her other grandmother doesn’t know yet. She made sure it keeps it that way. The heiress doesn’t want her nana to get distress since her cancer has returned and is becoming worse. Now, all she hears was their rants as she zoned out from all these events had happened.
“Natasha? Natasha? Are you even listening?” Historia tried to get her granddaughter’s attention.
“Oi, brat. Answer your grandmother.” He used his infamous authoritative tone. The college girl snapped and glanced at both of them.
“You know, only Uncle Erwin had asked me how I was feeling. He listened to what really happened and didn’t judge me. Both of you, had not once asked me how I am feeling since the scandal was broken. I was hoping my family would be a bit understanding and listen to me because I would never sink myself to that. All I got here was I should be ashamed of myself or take responsibility. And guess what, I had been feeling ashamed and disgusted because the whole world saw me exposed and it was without my consent. If this conservation will lead to more scolding and family’s reputation then I’m done here.” She gets up to roughly palace the cup on the saucer then walks to the doors to open. The heiress slammed the doors.
Fuck everything here. If she can go somewhere to be safe and herself, then it will help her not to lose insanity. Natasha didn’t feel her tears were falling. The heiress kept going until she was outside in the royal private garden. The distressed girl sat on the bench to let the tears become sobs.
“Mom...Dad..if you were still alive, would you believe me? Would you understand me when I need it the most? I’m just tired of everything. I missed you both…” The brown haired woman whispered as her eyes stared up at the stars.
Natasha loved to be in the garden whenever she’s alone. It’s helped her clear her thoughts and calm her emotions. Right, in front of her a mini section of lavenders. It was her 16th birthday present. Its scent was soothing and relaxing. They’re one of her favorite flowers along marigold and winter roses. While enjoying the stars and the flowers, her phone rang. She pulled out from her pocket jeans and answered.
“Hey Stella, what’s wrong?” her tone instantly changed to concerning.
On the phone a woman who’s one of her friends and coworkers for S.H.I.E.L.D. “Hey Natasha, I know you’re on vacation but you need to come back. The Time machine had not been working.” Stella said on the phone.
“Have you tried rebooting or shutting down the machine?” Natasha said, trying to figure out the solution.
“Yes, I did it a few times. Also, I add fuel before doing anything. I need it to have it running by tomorrow.” Stella said with anxiousness.
“Just send me the data on my phone and I’ll check it out what’s the problem. If it’s something too serious, I’ll fly back to the Headquarters to fix it.” Already, browsing her phone to check the data that was being sent to her.
On her mother’s side, she got the brains, but on her father’s side the physique of a fighter. Growing up without alive parents had made her determined to learn to be prepared to protect herself and any loved ones that matter to her. The heiress had joined S.H.I.E.L.D around after high school. At first, she was stubborn to be part of the next generation of the Avengers until Director Maria Hill gave her old videos of her late grandfather, Tony Stark aka Ironman.
Beside being named after one of the original members, Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow, also gave her another reason to join. Both of them had made sacrifices to save the planet and the population. The least she could do was to honor them and not to let their death be in vain.
After searching up to find any problem that was causing the machine not working, Natasha sighed and called back Stella.
“Hey Stella, it’s a bigger problem than we thought. I’ll catch a flight asap. I’ll see you later then.” Once the call was over, the woman got up to go back to the palace to pack up to leave
By the time she got to her room packing up, a knock was heard. “Come in.” She said.
Historia opened the door to enter then closed it. “Natasha...we owed you an apology.” The queen noticed her granddaughter packing up her things.
“Are you planning to go back home already?” She was concerned.
“Yeah, there’s an emergency that needs me.” the heiress sounded vague.
“Oh dear, is Pepper getting worse?” Historia frowned from being worried for the older woman.
“No and thank god it’s not that emergency. I just need to go.” The truth was only nana knew about Natasha being part of the Avengers. If her Eldian grandparents were aware, they would become overprotective and prevent her from joining. It’s best this remains a secret plus she’s a grown woman who can make decisions.
“Honey, if your leaving became the argument earlier, we are sorry. Please don’t leave. We’ll hear your side of the story in the morning.” The blonde queen pleaded with her only granddaughter to stay. Historia had missed her. They may have differences, but her love for her is big as the rest of the family. Her fear was seeing her granddaughter going into a dark path.
Natasha sighed as she finished packing. “It’s not a fight, grandma.”
“Then what is it?” She said as trying to understand Natasha. She has become very mysterious and distant towards everyone except her only remaining son and her youngest daughter, Kuchel who is taking an internship in Hizuru for political foreign affairs as her major. To the rest, Natasha shuts them out.
“It’s just work. A colleague of mine called me and said that they found some documents but it’s in some ancient language they haven't seen.” The heiress said.
“Can they send it to you through your phone or laptop?” Historia said.
“No, they are old and ancient so they’re fragile. I will have to look at them closer and decode into English.” The young woman hated lying to her grandmother. If she told her the truth, more drama would erupt and right now; the young Ackerman wasn’t in the mood for another drama.
Of course, Historia felt her granddaughter was not being honest to her, but she will let it slide. Maybe after she comes back, they will talk about it.
“Alright then. Do you need the driver to take you to the airport?” Historia offered her help.
“Yeah that would be appreciative. Thank you, grandma.” The dark haired woman said.
After she left the palace, Natasha arrived at the International airport. The heiress got through security measurements until she finally entered her terminal where the plane awaits for passengers. She goes find her seat number. As Natasha Ackerman took her seat, a man who was already seated by the window had taken a glance at her. The heiress was minding her own business until she saw the man staring at her.
“May I help you?” She said annoyingly. If this is some under covered paparazzi, she’ll throw him out of the window.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to stare at you.” He went back to reading his book.
The brunette also went back to reading but she took another quick glance at the man which by the way, he was hot. He probably has long hair since it was tied into a bun only a few strands of hair sticks out from the forehead. The one thing that caught her attention was his emerald green eyes.
For hours the flight was boring. Not once has that hot guy haven’t started a conversation. She probably made a bad impression. She made a yawning sound since dawn is about to rise soon. The heiress can take a couple hours nap before the plane arrives at her destination. Her eyes slowly closed as she fell asleep. While in a deep sleep, her head slowly leans to lay on the hot stranger’s shoulder. A light deep chuckle was heard along a few words.
“Always and forever, Eve.” Natasha doesn’t know whether it was a dream or not. The way it sounds had made her feel safe and sound. It was the best two hour nap she ever had. When she woke up, almost everyone was gone including the hot guy. She was about to get up, but the woman saw a winter rose on her lap. The heiress picked it up and smelled the rose. This strange man was mysterious and smooth. Whoever was this guy, he made her day.
(End flashback)
Eve had looked back from the events that lead to now. The time machine that she helped to make it work had glitched which sent her to this era. Luckily, it was in Paradis, but it was the time where this side of the world was going through a huge change that caused a huge war. She remembered World History about Eldian history along with those affected. What’s worse is that she encountered and fell in love with one of the notorious historical figures, Eren Jaeger. The brunette let out a frustrating scream then kicked the poor little rock on the ground.
“Damn you, Eren. Why did you have to walk into my life?” She sighed. How long had she been here? Weeks? Months? It felt like years and Eve just missed home where she can cuddle up in her bed while eating coffee flavor ice cream with oreos while watching some cheesy romantic movies on Netflix.
She saw a group of people with green caped hoods. The Ackerman from the future quickly hides within the trees. The heir decided to climb up to hide better. As she was about to grab the branch close to her reach, it snapped which she fell from the tree. Eve closed her eyes to wait for the hard fall. Instead, she opened her eyes to see a very familiar green eyes.
“Eve, you should be careful. These woods are dangerous. What are you doing here by the way?” Eren said while carrying her in bridal style.
The heiress realized Eren had caught her from falling. This feels awkward and painful. His hurtful words were still fresh on her mind. She glared at him then scoffed.
“I dont need to explain myself to you so I would appreciate it if you would put me down.” She said with a cold tone.
Eren wasn’t amused with her coldness towards him. After all, he did leave things on bad terms. “Did you follow me? Damn you woman. You just can’t take a hint of rejection.”
Oh no. He did not just say that. Natasha’s pride begins to boil with rage. That asshole has some nerves.
“Excuse me? Like hell, I would follow you! Seriously, are you this much of a dick? You know what. I’m just gonna leave.” She humped, then turned around to leave. Eren stopped her by grabbing her arm.
“Hey, wait. It’s best to come with us since you’ll get yourself lost here.” She glanced at him annoyingly.
“I can handle myself, thanks.” She said stubbornly.
“Eve, I’m serious. I don’t want you to be alone in the woods especially when we’re at war.” His tone had become a bit aggressive due to her stubbornness.
“Why do you care? You left me at the inn. You made it clear that all I was someone to warm up your bed.” Tears were threatening to come out, but she was holding in.
“I care enough for an innocent being in the crossfire when shit goes down.” Eren said.
“How fucking noble you are?” She said sarcastically.
Eren grunt from her attitude. Without saying much, he gripped her arm to drag her to where the Garrison and MPs soldiers were making campgrounds for the night.
“Hey, let go! Eren, where are you taking me?” She was trying to free herself from his strong grip.
“You ask too much.” He grumbled. They reached the campsite.
“Jaeger! Who do you have here?” One of the garrison soldiers shouted as they were spotted.
The heiress gave up the struggle as Eren took her. “Just a bratty acquaintance that I know back at Trost.”  This made her scoffed at him.
“Oh hello there, dollface. I’m Rick. What’s your name?” Great. This random soldier is hitting on her. She was about to say something, but Eren beats to it.
“She doesn’t like being called a dollface.” Eren was getting irritated.
“But I don’t mind introducing myself. Hello there, I’m Eve. it’s nice to meet you.” Her tone became too flirty for Eren already glaring at her. She finally jerks her arm off from his grip.
Rick blushed from Eve’s bold gesture. “That’s a pretty name.”
Eve gave one of her man-eating smirk. “You don’t mind showing me around the campsite, soldier.” She wrapped her arms around the garrison soldier’s arm which he gladly led her to the campsite leaving a very moody Eren behind.
(Eren)
Oh the inner conflict he’s struggling with not grabbing Eve and claiming those addictive lips. This isn’t just a cute jealousy that he usually gets. This is the angry jealousy. Damn her, she definitely can get him under his skin. Eren closed his eyes as he took a deep breath to calm down.
“Don’t lose it. Fight.” He mumbled to himself.
Eren started walking. Connor stopped him. “What’s wrong? You look like a bobcat ready to attack.”
“It’s nothing. I just have a headache.” The titan shifter walked away. Connor glanced to see the strange girl talking to the fiery red hair soldier.
While Eren was walking to start making his tent, a cough sound was heard behind him. He turned around to see it was Commander Dok.
“Oh hello Commander Dok. Is there something you need to talk about?” Eren gave his attention to the Commander of the Military Police.
“Yes. Matter in fact, why did you bring a stranger to our secret campsite? We don’t know if the girl is a spy for the invaders. Her accent is not from here or even Marley. I know you want to redeem yourself for the betrayal and the atrocities you have caused in Marley. You’re making it difficult to have my complete trust in you and it’s not just me feeling this way. Commander Rico Brzenska of the Garrison branch also had her mistrust with you.” Niles said.
“Commander, I understand you and Brzenska are on edge, especially the templars that took over the island. Eve is not a spy I assure you. She probably followed me since we left on bad terms. She’s harmless. Both of you have nothing to worry about.” Eren took a glimpse at his ex who was still being too friendly with the other soldier.
Niles sighed and nodded. “She’s your responsibility if she does anything suspicious, Jaeger.”
Eren nodded in response. “Of course, sir.”
Niles walked away to let the titan shifter finish setting his tent. Again, the Eldian man took a sneak peak at the spunky woman. She was finally alone which it ease his agonizing heart. He knew this was his fault for leaving her after the promises he told her in their pillow talks. Eren felt the guilt for breaking her heart as the scene of her reaction when he told her off.
It’s like the Path pulled them together. He can try to distance himself from her, but in the end she will always be in his thoughts. When he met her, Eren was frustrated and distracted. His distraction became curiosity to finally get to know her. Eren quickly focused back on his tent as Eve glanced back at him. Both are stubborn when it comes to their relationship dynamics. He always was the strong, protective alpha hero while as for her; she was playful, fun, and loving. There was another side of Eve that he noticed in their weeks of being together.
The sky started to get a bit dark as the sun slowly set on the horizon. Rico Brzenska glanced at the new girl.
“You. Go be useful and bring firewood.” She ordered Eve which the heiress became annoyed but got up to go into the deeper woods.
“Jaeger, go make sure she does it.” Rico said to Eren who already started walking to follow Eve into the deep woods.
Eren kept walking on the thin path of the woods as it gets dense the further he’s away from the campsite. The woods looked lush green with trees and old huge trunks that laid on the ground for centuries covered in green plants and wildflowers. The moist made the temperature drop a bit cooler, but to the titan shifter it doesn’t bother him. He was getting irritated from not finding his girl- no, she’s not his...anymore.
“Where is she?” He whispered then a familiar purple skirt caught his attention. He turned to spotted Eve picking up a couple of sticks. Slowly, Eren walked towards her.
Eve was aware Eren was tailing after her. She gets up and pretends he doesn’t exist. It only took a few steps for the atmosphere to change between them. Eren felt his predator desiring his prey. All she was a manipulative, promiscuous, vixen. Eren may be the type to get mad easily, but with her it was another level. He remembered earlier the way she flirted with Richie or was it Ricky? He doesn’t care to know about the soldier’s name. Eren watched her pace speed up  until she sprint into running. She had dropped the sticks to speed further. Eren ran after her. The adrenaline of chasing her made his bloodstream pump more.
Eren smirked when Eve trip but recovered from placing her hand on the tree. Her breathing was shallow from the running. He was already behind her pressing his chest on her back which she became stiff.
“I know what you were trying to do earlier with that soldier.” His voice became raspy. He can hear her heart beating faster. His warm breath tickling her ear and neck.
The heiress bit her lips from not letting out a single moan or sound. Oh god, he’s making it harder to hate him. Of course, she can’t hate him. He’s always known how to drive her crazy for him. How his sexy voice made her panties ruin. She let her eyes closed to continue listening to his godly husky tone.
“You have been pissing me off, baby. Trying to make me jealous huh?” A growl had escaped from his lips.
“Trying? I had no intention of making you jealous.” Eve finally speaks.
“Don’t play dumb with me, Eve. I know you. I gotta give it to you. You’re persistent. There’s one question that’s bothering me the most.” He said
“What would that be?” She said.
“Why didn’t the power of the Founding Titan work on you to erase your memories of me?” Eren had that question from the back of his mind since he caught her from falling from the tree.
Eve had stayed quiet again. She is trying so hard to not want to answer that question. It should affect her since she has Eldian blood in her. Unless, she is a descendant of the Ackerman clan like Mikasa and Captain Levi.
“I want you to be honest with you, Eve.” He tried to change his tone to softer for her. All she did was laugh like it was the funniest joke.
“Honest? You are a funny guy to be demanding me to be honest with you, Eren Jaeger.” Her grey eyes glared dangerously in a way that’s familiar to him again.
“Ever since I met you, you haven’t been honest with me either. You didn’t want to tell me of your plans whenever you claimed you had meetings to go. Recently, you have been pinning me on the tree because you got possessive of me. For a man who claims to have no feelings for me; this shouldn’t bother you whether who I flirt with.” Both lock their eyes in a staring contest.
“So if you want me to be honest then you fucking better stop with your bullshit of pushing and pulling my heart. I know you still love me and feel that desire just as much I feel for you. Eren, whatever this secret it is, I will share your burden. I love you so much that I don’t want you to feel alone in this secret plan you needed to do. Maybe, I can offer you another alternative if you need it.” Now, her tone became compassionate.
“There’s no alternative way if there were I would choose the best and safest one.” He said.
“How would you know that? Have you considered it?” She said.
“No, but trust me I know. I have the knowledge of truth. I saw how the future will become if I don’t do it.” He was getting frustrated. A part of him wants to tell her, but it’s too risky for anyone to know even for her. Eren doesn’t want anything terrible to happen to her. Just as she said, he loves her.
“Then tell me what did you see in the future? I want to understand you. Let me in, please.” Her hands are placed on his cheeks to gently caress them.
“I can’t. Please, understand that. I want to protect you and our people. It’s better than my brother’s method on saving Eldians.” He scoffed at the idea that Zeke had to save the Eldians.
“What was your brother’s plan? Can you at least tell me that?” She was curious what his brother had in mind to save the Eldian race?
“He wanted to sterilize all Eldians in order to stop the curse by dying out slowly and peacefully.” He explained.
“That’s an indirect genocide.” She was a bit distrubed.
“We don’t deserve to die out so in a way I betray my brother by doing this. That’s the future I want to see where Eldians are free from the curse and are at peace to live and enjoy this world that’s our birthright.” He said.
“No, we don’t. Nobody deserves to be annihilated as well…” She whispered. This caught his attention. Does she….had she figured it out what’s his plan?” His green eyes glared at her.
“You knew it. How did you figure out my plan? Eve, you have been mysterious since we met. So tell me, who are you for real? Is Eve even your real name?” His tone was skeptical.
“I...Eren, if I told you, you might think I’m crazy or making shit up.” Her eyes looked afraid  but not because of him.
“I don’t think whatever you’ll say will top for the crazy shit I have seen through the Path, but you can try to humor me.” Eren still giving a pinning stare.
“First of all, Eve is my name. Well, my middle name. I’m Natasha Eve Ackerman-Stark. I’m the granddaughter of Queen Historia Ackerman nee Reiss and King Consort Levi Ackerman. Basically, I’m from the future.” Natasha waits nervously for his reaction.
Eren blinked at first taking in this information. He doesn’t know what to say. It kind of made all sense how she had strengthened, sharp aiming skills. Now that he observed better, she got Levi’s colored eyes but her eye shape could be more on her mother's side. He would have not believed her if he hadn’t seen her Ackerman traits that gave away. That also makes sense in why she was immune to the Founding Titan power. He can’t believe she’s from the future. What actually happened? Did his plan work? Are we free? These questions were taking over his thoughts.
“Eren...please say something.” Natasha whispered in worry.
“I’m just taking all in from what you just said. So their baby survived? Wow, if Levi finds out I slept with his granddaughter; I don’t think he’ll let me live.” He chuckled at that thought. The heiress grumbled at that thought.
“Yeah well, he got no saying about my love life.” her tone sounded resentment.
“Do you have a good relationship with Levi?” He was curious.
“Not really. I don’t have a good relationship with them. Our mindsets are a bit different.” She doesn’t want to talk about her issues with her grandparents yet.
“I’m sorry to hear that.” He said. “So what happened or is that against  the rules when you traveled to the past?”
“We are still cursed but with good foreign relations with the rest of the world, the United Nations are now involved in managing to make sure who gets to inherit the nine titans so any babies with the blood of Subject Of Ymir won’t inherit when they are born. There’s still discrimination but segregation like in Marley had become illegal including every nation since a special law was passed to protect ever Eldians.” She explained.
“Ah I see. So what happened to me?” If he somehow tried to wipe out the rest of the world except Eldians then there’s a chance he would not live.
“What the history books say, you were executed for treason to the military and to my grandmother as she represents the nation of Paradis, but I heard rumors that they fake it to please the other nations as their agreement for the treaty Paradis have with the rest of the world. You were known as a war criminal and anti- humanity to everyone who studied history. Some say you are still alive and locked away in the deep deep grounds in a secret lab being studied like a labrat until the curse kills you.” Eren grunted. In the end no one was free. They were still cursed and he probably was a slave to be a test subject for titan science.
“That doesn’t sound right. I should be dead either way since I have a few years left.” Eren said.
“I wish it was true the rumor so when I do go back my time, I can free you.” her tone sounded sad. She thought what the future Eren will be like? Is he cold? How do they treat him? But like he said, he’ll be gone way before her existence.
It’s best to just appreciate he is here and ok. She grabs his hand to press her palm to his. Eren looked down curiously at her. He let her do whatever she tended to do with his hand.
“I’ll be dead so you don’t have to worry about freeing me.” He whispered. Eren pulled her gently to have their bodies pressed against each other.
“When are you going back to your time?” He continues.
“Um, I don’t know...the thing is I came here accidentally. I was helping a colleague with a time machine, the facility I worked at. So, I’m stuck until I figure out how to get back home.” She doesn’t want to leave even without him.
“You know, I never planned to fall for you, Eren Jaeger. You are nothing like what history has taught us. You’re much more humane than most people my nana used to deal with as a CEO.” Her arms wrap around his neck which his hands place on her hips.
“Same, you have been a distraction to my plan. In a way, history has changed because of you. The world better be thanking you for that.” He said jokingly. Eren kissed her forehead affectionately. “Eve or I should call you Natasha?”
“To be safe, let’s stick to Eve.” She said.
“Alright, but I want to say I’m sorry. I’m sorry for hurting you. I don’t mean to say these words at the inn. I thought it was best for you to hate me so you don’t get closer to me when I did plan on going through eradicating the population except Eldians. WHen I realized that I have fallen for you, I got scared thinking of losing you. I did the same with Armin and Mikasa. Armin forgave me but Mikasa; I don’t think she will ever.” Eren confessed.
“Eren, I forgive you. I felt relieved you still feel the same way about me as I do to you. Don’t give up on Mikasa, a person who has cared about you for a long time will not easily hold a grudge against you. Just give her time, but don’t be scared to tell how sorry you are and as for her forgiveness.” She punched his arm which he rubbed his arm.
“Hey what was that.” He pouted.
“That’s for you being an idiot in believing all the people who cared about you will hate you easily for planning an apocalyptic disaster. I know you said there’s no other way, but can you try to consider it? I don’t want to lose my other family. I know they didn’t do anything wrong. Some didn't deserve it.” Eren sighed. If the outcome hasn’t happened as he hoped for then maybe he’ll consider it.
“The only thing I want to know is how will the curse be broken?” Eren wants to be cursed to be destroyed to free their people from being hated and feared by the rest of the world. That's one of his big concerns.
“We’ll figure it out together. Plus, I have a talent for finding very hidden documents. So we’ll make sure our people will not have to worry about it.” She assured him and gave one of her warmth smiles.
“Jaeger! Eve! Where are you?” A familiar voice was heard by those two. Eren pulled Eve to hide behind a very wide tree as they saw Ricky or whatever his name was. Now Eren’s mood had shifted to annoyance.
“Seriously, why does he have to come? He’s probably volunteering to be close to you.” He grumbled. Eve blushed embarrassingly. Yeah, she does have flaws to pissed off people or make them jealous. She felt guilty for making him feel that way, She was so hurt that she wanted to see him be hurt too.
Eren noticed her face blushed which made his annoyance become irritated. He possessively wraps his arm around her waist to hold her closer to him. Once the garrison soldier gives up and goes back to the campsite, both are alone again. This time Eren turned her to face him. She was about to speak when his lips crashed against hers. The fiery feeling spread all over her body. She moaned how passionate and deep his kiss had become. Her fingers move up to his long hair to run through it. Low key, seeing Eren this jealous made her belly flutter. The way his green eyes become intense and darken; it’s just too irresistible for her. Eren pushed her against the tree to pin her again. The pleasure consuming both as the lusting feeling drunkenly blinded them.
Eve was her own person that Eren knows, but he’s possessive. He wanted to leave his markings on her so others would back off. Their dynamic is like those impulsiveness couples that are addictive and passionate with each other. He loved how her body responded to his touches. It’s like only he has the power to make her tremble and beg for more. The same vice versa as how Eve acts towards him. In a way they are both similar. They made be in the woods but that won’t stop to go further. Their bodies already yearn for each other. His hands had unbuttoned her blouse to run his tongue all over her exposing breasts.
Soft moans were coming from her own lips. She was panting loud and heavy. It made Eren’s prides swell from seeing her looking like a hot mess. His hand goes under her purple skirt to feel how soaking wet her panties are. His lips hovered to her ear.
“My dollface is so wet for me. Isn’t that right, baby? Come on, speak.” He said huskily.
“Mmmm I-I...Eren.” She struggled to form a sentence. He chuckled how lost she is from his touch. His finger slides her panties down as one of her legs is removed so only her panties dangle on the other leg.
“Come on, babe, answer my question.” He teased her. Eren resumed attending her nipples with his mouth which Eve let out a squeal.
“Fuck...Eren I-I a-am w-wet for y-you.” Finally she completed her phrase.
“Good girl. Remember I’m the only one who can make you wet.” He continued whispering to her. All she could feel was his fingers inside her deep. She started to rock her hips grinding in and out of his fingers. Eren is amused at how eager she is for him. His finger was covered in her warm slick when he pulled out to see.
“Eren, I need you.” She began to make way to his pants from undoing it. He stopped her then pinned her hands over her head on the tree. “Why should I allow you to get what you want? You've been a bad girl earlier.”
“I’m sorry, I’ll be a good girl.” Eve biting her lips. She’s definitely a seductress. Eren’s manhood throbbing to be free in his pants. He grunts at being allured to her desire. He planned to just tease her to learn her lesson.
He subconsciously begins to unbutton his pants to pull down a bit low enough for his cock to be free.  Eren hiked up her long skirt to have her leg lift to be placed on his hip while inserting his cock into her hole. The heiress tilted her head up to moan how good it feels to have him stretching her walls. He stared into her eyes as his hips began to thrust hard and deep. They feel the blissful sensation from being so intimated with each other. He kisses her neck as the woods are now dark but the moonlight shines on where they stand. To Eren, Eve looked like a goddess of the night seducing a man like him. He loved how the moonlight soaks into her skin that gives off a glow. He continues thrusting into her with a bit more roughness. He doesn’t want to speed up to make this mystical sight before him last longer. Her chocolate brown hair spread on the tree trunk. He listens to the echoes of her moanings  and whimpers.
Yes, she is his. No matter the outcome; they always belong together. He’ll fight for that.
“You’re always mine. Even when we get separated, you’re mine. I love you always and forever.” He proclaimed.
“You’re always mine too. Just don’t ever pull that shit on me again. I love you always forever.” The titan shifter saw her tears fall and he kissed it from the guilt he felt how he treated her even if it was for her sake.
Eren sped up a bit more to increase the high of pleasure for both of them. “Ohh god ohh fuck Eren.” Her moaning became loud while he growls and groans. Finally, he let out a moan when he made a release inside her soon after Eve came as well. Both stopped to rest for a second then slowly Eren pulled out to clean his tip before tucking his cock back into his pants and button again.
Eve started to slide her panties back up then button up her blouse. She fixes her long skirt appropriately and her hair to look presentable.
“Oh shit, it’s dark and I’m gonna get yelled for not bringing sticks for the fire.” She forgot what was her main purpose being in the woods. “You can be such a distraction.”
Eren winked then grabbed her hand to lead her back to the campsite. “I’m not sorry. We’ll get some on our way back to the camp.”
Along their way back, both of them gather many sticks of wood to burn for the fire. By the time they got to their destination, Rico glared at the both of them.
“Well well, are you both done fucking like two animals during heat season? Next time, bring the woods when I order too. Seriously, you both have some weird kinks in being loud enough for anyone very close to hear.” Luckily, her voice wasn’t loud for anyone to hear her calling both couples out. Eren and Eve blushed embarrassingly from being scolded like misbehaving teenagers. After Rico finished scolding, she left them alone for them to place the wood close to the pit. Eren let Eve for her to put some wood into the fire to make it big to warm around the campsite. He walked to where Connor was resting against the log. “You look happy for once.” Connor glanced at him. Eren had a smile from the event that happened in the woods. “Yeah.”
“Good, don’t let her get away. I had a woman like her, but I was stupid enough to push her away. Don’t make the same  mistake I did, kid.” The Assassin closed his eyes to resume his nap.

Flufftober 4 - Fake Dating
Prompt by @vex-bittys
Read it on fanfiction.net or AO3
-----------------------------------------
Wooh, this one was not easy, but I managed to finish in time! It's the first time I'm writing fake dating, so I don't know if I did okay ^^'
Anyway, this one is Roman, Remus, Patton and Logan. So... Intruloroyality? I don't know at this point XD
-----------------------------------------
Okay, you've got this, Roman thought, that night, at the dinner table, and showed his best smile for his grandma.
He felt so awful, and it felt like everyone at the table could tell how uncomfortable he was. He couldn't even look at his brother or their friends, Patton and Logan, for too long.
Which was bad, because he was supposed to be Patton's boyfriend.
It had started maybe a month ago. When their obnoxious homophobic aunt Beth had tried to introduce them to yet another girl she knew – a coworker's daughter, or cousin, or sister, it didn't matter.
At that point, Roman almost believed she had selective deafness. He and Remus had told her, over and over again, that they were gay, didn't want to meet girls, especially not when she was planning dates for them. Aunt Beth was still 100% convinced this was just a phase and that they could be "fixed".
So when she brought another miss-what's-her-name to their place without their consent, Remus had cracked and yelled: "You can't stay because we're having a gay orgy with our boyfriends tonight!"
Roman had honestly thought that would be enough. Surely their aunt wasn't around his brother enough to be used to the gross nonsense he blabbered all the time.
But it hadn't deterred her. The orgy part, at least, she realized was just a joke. "You don't have boyfriends," she had said, her chin raised in contempt. "I would have known already! You're single and you can give a chance to Natalia here."
"No offense, miss," Roman had said at the lady, who just nodded, looked quite bored. "We are not single. We're dating… uh…"
"Logan and Patton!" Remus panicked.
"Uh, yeah! You know, our classmates?"
"I thought you said they were dating each other?" Aunt Beth said, suspicious.
"No, we said they were dating us! Have you had your hearing checked, Auntie?" Remus asked, and cackled when Aunt Beth gasped in outrage. "What if a bee got inside your ear and started making a nest inside your skull, and that's why you never hear us?"
"Well, I hope you're happy for wasting such a nice girl's time!" she had cried, and promptly vacated the place, followed by the girl.
The twins had high-fived each other and then the rest of the night was spent arguing over what movie they were going to watch to celebrate.
But it couldn't be that simple, right?
Because the twin's mother was very close to Aunt Beth, and so had questioned her sons when she heard about their "boyfriends". Roman and Remus's mom was way more tolerant than her relative, but she was also a gossiper and she couldn't know it was a lie, or she's rat them out immediately. So the twins told her the exact same lie.
Their mother of course told all of her side of the family, as well as their father, who told his side of the family, and now all of their relatives thought they were dating their childhood friends.
So that wasn't ideal, and Roman thought of coming clean, or at least "breaking up", but Remus won him over arguing as long as they believed that, their aunt and any other relatives would stop trying to set them up with people. Which, honestly? Worth it.
And then winter break happened.
Every winter break, the twins and their parents would fly a couple states north, where their grandparents lived, and spend the holidays there with the rest of their family. And it was always expected from the younger people to bring any significant other at least once during that time.
They could have said Logan and Patton were too busy or had other plans, but the twins' grandparents were so adamant they contacted Logan and Patton's own parents to ask for them to join the family reunion, and not knowing anything about the situation, they all agreed on one week.
When they told Logan and Patton what the whole deal was, they were surprisingly calm about it. Logan, especially, thought this was one solution. Patton, of course, bless his little heart, wanted to come clean and apologize, but after Remus begged him not to unleash their aunt on them again, he took pity and agreed.
So Patton would pretend to be Remus's boyfriend, and Logan would act as Roman's. What could go wrong?
Several things, actually. Starting with everyone's ability to act. Roman, of course, was fine on that part. He was a theater kid and he knew what romance looked like. Patton was also pretty good at being all lovey-dovey, except he tended to look nervously at Logan whenever Remus tried something, because he was scared of Logan being jealous.
And Remus tried a LOT. He was a pervert pretending to romance a grey-asexual. And it showed.
As for Logan, well, he wasn't uncomfortable with Roman's flirting, but…
"Roman, your existence is greatly appreciated."
… He was the WORST actor Roman had ever met.
Okay, fine! It was fine! Their relatives were all kind of dumb anyway. The twins' parents didn't notice anything during the trip, and so far it seemed the charade was working.
Except, as days went by, another problem arose.
Roman had probably flirted a little too much. Or maybe it was all the time spent together. Or maybe it was from sleeping in the same bed.
In any case, he had started crushing on Logan.
Okay, not just on Logan. Patton too.
Which was a big no-no. No, you don't get a crush on childhood friends who are already dating each other. Especially in a situation where they are away from home, and thus already vulnerable and/or uncomfortable.
But he couldn't help it. To be fair, he had always been very close with the two. Just not that close. Not enough to notice how cute Patton's sleepy bed-head was, or how gentle Logan was when he was hesitant or stressed, or how warm Patton was when he was hugging him in the morning, or how hot Logan was with his glasses off.
Now he couldn't look at them without thinking "what if", and feeling itty-bitty butterflies in his tummy.
And he was certain everyone in the house could tell. And that was not how he was supposed to act right now.
So he kept his head low, trying not to draw attention to himself, which was very unlike him. And that night, at the dinner table, the boys had had enough.
"I apologize for interrupting, but I believe I have misplaced my phone and I am waiting for a very important call. May I leave the table?"
"Oh, of course Logan," their grandmother had said.
Logan stood and looked at Roman. "Would you mind helping me, Roman?"
"Uh…"
"Come on, you two hurry up, okay?" his cousin said.
Logan grabbed his hand and pulled him towards the corridor and up the stairs. Once they were out of hearing distance, he stopped and turned to Roman. "Now, please tell me what is bothering you."
"What? Nothing! I'm great, let's go look for your stupid phone…"
"Roman, in the past two days you have displayed an increase in signs of stress, you are not doing 'great'. And also, the phone thing was a falsehood."
Roman rolled his eyes. "Logan, just because you took a psychology class doesn't allow you to analyze me, and for the last time, I am okay. Now let's go back."
"I don't think that's right…" Patton's voice said from behind him.
Roman turned around and grimaced as Patton and Remus joined them. "Guys, seriously, you're making a big deal out of nothing!"
"Hey, I didn't say anything!" Remus argued. "You do look like you stuck a lightbulb up your ass and you're scared of it breaking at any point and turning your insides into a bloody purée, though."
"Great, super helpful bro…" Roman sighed. They were all looking at him, and they couldn't spend too much time or someone would come find them, and he couldn't tell them or he'd just make everyone feel bad, and it was all too much. He angrily ran his hands in his hair, pulling a couple time, closing his eyes. What the fuck was he supposed to do?!
"Okay, okay, let's calm down first…" Patton said, and now his hands were on his arms, and he was being so gentle. Roman let the others guide him into the closest room and sit him on the bed. "Now, it's okay Roman, you can tell us…"
"No…" he said stubbornly.
"Roman, we will love you no matter what the problem is, you can trust us!" Patton insisted.
"I promise, it's if funny, I will only tease you about it for two weeks!... Maybe a month."
"Remus, please! Roman, I promise it's safe to tell us."
"And, if I may add," Logan said, "we will help with the best of our abilities if at all possible."
Roman grabbed the pillow next to him and screamed as hard as he could into it. Eventually, it made him feel calm enough to look up at all the worried faces around him. He muttered something into his pillow.
"Ah, sorry, can you repeat that?" Patton asked.
"… I'm crushing on you and Logan. There, I said it, happy?"
Logan and Patton were agape for a moment, but Remus just shrugged. "Pff, me too, you're not special."
"What?"
"Bro, have you seen Logan's bare chest? He looks like a nerdy Edward Cullen. And Patton is the best cuddler in the world."
"How the fuck can you be so calm about this?!"
"It's just feelings, nobody's dead yet!"
"Yet?!"
"Okay, time out!" Logan asked, clapping his hands like a preschool teacher. "I think we need to assess the situation step by step…"
And then he stopped, because Patton was kissing Roman with all of his uncontrolled impulse. Remus cheered and kissed Logan, and for about two minutes there were nothing but kissing noises and sighs in the small room.
"So, um, does that mean you guys also…" Roman started, when his mouth was free again.
"For literal months," Logan admitted.
"That's so much time we have to make up for!" Remus cried.
"Agreed," Patton said, blushing. "We, um… We should go back, everyone's still waiting."
Roman's eyes widened and he fell back on the bed dramatically, hiding his face in his hands. "How the fuck are we going to tell them?!"
