You know those stories where someone dies and is reborn as a character in their favorite series? That but with Gravity Falls.

Wait wait wait don’t leave I’m not done yet!!!

Gravity Falls AU where everything is the same except Dipper, Mabel, Stan, Soos, Wendy, and Ford all have the souls of dead people who were sucked into this game where the goal is to recreate the events of the show in order to “win” and be freed.

But nobody except Ford has actually seen Gravity Falls and he’s not supposed to show up until Season 2 so everyone’s freaking out

If the “episode” ends differently (for example if one of the main cast is killed or says something they weren’t supposed to), the whole thing restarts and they have to play out the episode again. It’s awful.

And the Axolotl is the creator of the game whose intentions are unclear because they never interact with the players. Everyone else is NPCs, including Bill Cipher.

my friend who I texted this to said that Cosmo would switch between being disguised with Mabel and Dipper while Wanda would stick with Mabel. Wanda could probably be a clip of some sort and cosmo could be a hat or bag for Dipper. Thats so true and definitely happens in this au

Jeez some of these details like Wendy's mom being dead and Waddles potentially dying are depressing.

The Dipper one especially. That recontextualizes so much about how him and Mabel acted around the end of the series.

No wonder Dip latched onto authority figures so much and wanted to stay with Ford. He was afraid that when he came home, his parents would be divorced.

But where Dipper looked for replacement parents in other adult figures in an attempt to find stability, Mabel clung to whatever stability/reliable family she already had, Dipper. Mable wasn't looking for replacement parents because Dipper essentially filled that role for her, a dependable, reliable family member who would always be there to get her out of trouble. But Mabel couldn't be that person for Dipper in return, so Dipper looked elsewhere for that stability and found it in Ford.

So when the possibility of Dipper not going home came up, Mabel panicked because she would be losing that stability and would return to fighting parents without anyone to depend on.

Mabel handing over the rift makes a lot more sense now. Endless Summer for her equals Endless Stability.
