Imane Khelif captures gold at women’s welterweight!
Tumblr media
After a week of being attacked by a combo of the dumbest and most evil people on the internet, Khelif comes thru and accomplished the girlhood dream - Olympic gold medalist! From gathering and selling scraps to afford bus fare to get to the gym as a kid to Olympic champion! Algeria’s first women with a gold medal in boxing and their 2nd boxing gold ever.
Yang Liu will have to settle for silver. China is still guaranteed 5 medals in women’s boxing and have one more boxer in the finals of women’s 75 kg.

Body types headcanons based on modern athletes ( feel free to add more)
Big Ajax: caber toss/ Mongolian wrestler
Achilles: MMA featherweight to flyweight
Patroclus: MMA welterweight
Diomedes: Greco Roman wrestler/ middle weight boxer. Rechecked: 85kg is for middle weight class!
Odysseus: rower/ mountain climber/ natural explorer. Don’t look like it but they can carry a giant camera and follow a random animal for months.
Menelaus and Agamemnon: Rugby (the no armor one)
Hector: Light heavyweight boxer
@katerinaaqu so yeah imo Diomedes would not be as heavy or big as Ajax, I would say max 85kg.

Josh Peter at USA Today:
PARIS –Taiwan’s Lin Yu-Ting, one of two female boxers targeted in a “gender eligibility’’ controversy at the Paris Olympics, capped the turbulent experience in similar fashion. Triumphantly. Lin won a gold medal Saturday night by beating Poland’s Julia Szeremeta on points by unanimous decision in the finals of the women’s featherweight division (126 pounds) at Roland-Garros Stadium. Leading with a crisp jab, Lin won the first two rounds convincingly and danced free from trouble in the third round. The victory came one night after Algeria’s Imane Khelif won a gold medal by beating China’s Yang Liu in the finals of the women’s welterweight (146 pounds) division.
Both Lin and Khelif have been subjected to abuse on social media and inaccurate online speculation about their sexes even though the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has said they both have met all criteria and that there’s no question they are women.
Lin Yu-ting of Chinese Taipei (Taiwan) đŸ‡čđŸ‡Œ wins women's boxing featherweight gold medal 🏅 .
J.K., Riley, and the other anti-trans bullies who tried to take her (and Imane Khelif) down several pegs can suck it!

Synopsis: Queen Nia's darling is the welterweight champion of the world. Unfortunately, tragedy strikes when her love dies in a Boxing match, against a brutal opponent, after suffering many powerful blows to the head, causing brain damage.
Queen Nia Bloodwen x GN!Boxer!Reader
WARNINGS!!: Violence!! To Reader and others but not Nia, mentions of kidnapping, a lot of brutality, descriptions of Nia stoning someone to death, abuse of power, and Nia goes through it, some asshole called Aleck Balslev (made up character)
Tumblr media
You started participating in Welterweight matches during college, to help pay for your tuition, you didn’t have much time to fight back then but when you did you made sure to make a mark on people’s minds, and it worked. You were well-known by the time you graduated college. You were seen as the unstoppable Welterweight champion. You’d enter matches and win effortlessly. You were strong and buff, no one had ever been able to beat you in a match so far, even if you did get beat up badly you always managed to bounce right back up.
As the years pass and you’re in your late twenties you meet this cute lady that had been watching from the crowds, looked to be your age. You noticed her in the crowd, who wouldn’t! She was stunning, and you wanted a bite. Little did you know she’d be the one taking the big bite. You greeted her after obviously winning the match, subtly flexing your champion’s belt as you spoke with her. You really liked talking with her, you two kept talking and talking well into the closing of the wrestling stadium.
Your relationship with the cute lady blossomed beautifully, this including when she finally confessed to you that she was the Queen, Nia Bloodwen. This of course came as a shock to you but after some thinking and time away from Nia you had accepted her with open arms! (In just the right time too since she was just about to have you captured and put in her palace.) So far you’ve been in such a happy loving relationship, sure she acts a bit strange sometimes but you just chalk it up to her rarely being able to socialize growing up, either way you two adore each other in so many ways.
As the years pass, you and Nia in your mid thirties at this point, you’ve participated in Welterweight matches less and less, focusing on your now wife and personal life in general. And don’t get it twisted, you’re still as famous as ever. Every match you’re in except the entire stadium to be full to the brink. And then some newbie who’s won every championship they’ve fought in decided to challenge you, and you saw no issue with that. You’ve fought many new fighters who were cocky enough to ask you to wrestle with them and won fairly easily. But this time was different somehow.
You and this guy, Aleck Balslev, have been going at it for a while. In all honesty you were struggling to even put a punch in with this guy. At the beginning of the fight you were doing great. Until Aleck punched your gut, punches in the gut were normal and expected, but this one beat the shit out of you, absolutely ruining your resolution and forced the breath out of you. The next few minutes of the fight were terrifying. He just kept going, with no regard to what he’s done. Aleck wouldn’t stop, he kept putting punches on you as you try to defend yourself, try to gain back your confidence while hardly breathing.
You had your arms up to shield your chest and abdomen from getting hit any further by the demon in front of you, and then just then his loud grunting and cusses faded out, looking through your boxing gloves you saw Aleck back away from you, very slowly, with the devil’s grin smeared all over his face and his eyes filled with murderous intent. This wasn’t any average boxing fight anymore, it was a fight to the death, and you were on the losing end. As you were about to yell out to the referee, to tell him you’ll forfeit Aleck sped across the ring– so fast you could barely register it– and pounded his fist into your head.
It was hard to breath, this scene in front of her, “STOP IT! STOP THE MATCH NOW!!” The queen yelled out from the box seats you reserved for her as you usually do for your matches, commanding someone, anyone, to get up and stop this madness as she watches her spouse get pummeled into the head by that freak, the referee got hurt badly attempting to interrupt the fight. You were still conscious somehow, she needed to get down there and command this Aleck to stop herself.
Running through corridors and hallways to get to the main arena she could hardly breath, yelling at anyone she saw to call the police, to call an ambulance, to do something and save her spouse from the torment they’re experiencing. She entered the arena, the place filled with screams of panic, and you were not in the ring anymore, some buddy of yours now in there fighting Aleck, though also being beat prettly badly. They were cussing and punching at each other like two feral cats but that’s not what’s important.
“Where are they!?!?! WHERE IS MY CHAMPION!?!!” Nia’s screams were loud, so prominent in the yells of the crowd. She kept pushing herself in, yelling at anyone who stopped her and tried to warn her of what she’s about to see.
Nia’s love, lying on the floor, motionless, blood smeared all over your body. Nia’s eyes were flooded with tears, you were nothing but a blob of blood. She tried to go and get you, to hold you in her arms, to make sure you’re still there with her. But someone held her back, even as she hissed, bit, scratched, screamed, they wouldn’t let her go and Nia wanted them dead. She needed you to look at her again, say your sweet words again, touch her again. Nia needs you to breath again.
Thankfully the ambulance was already at the venue when it happened and treated you to their best abilities. You were soon sent to a specialized hospital for neurolgical treatment. It’s been a week and you’re still not awake. You haven’t even said a peep, and Nia refused to leave your hospital room until she hears something other than machines beeping and wirring as they stand as your only lifeline.
The door opened and shut, yet Queen Nia was none the wiser, staring at your busted face, holding your cold hand. “My queen? I’m Doctor Tray. I’ve been the one treating your spouse.” No response, no acknowledgement, “I-I’m sorry to say this but-”
They were interrupted by a soft, mourning voice, “Then don’t say it.”
“Excuse me?”
Nia slowly turned her head to the doctor behind her, her eyes full of unshed tears and cheeks wet with shed tears. “If you’re so sorry. Don’t say it. Don’t say what I don’t want you to say.” The doctor sighed, “My queen, I’m sorry, I must. Our patient here is unfortunately braindead. While all their organs are functioning just fine, their brain has ceased to function. Without the brain there is no possibility of life, I am so-”
Nia growled at the doctor, “Shut the hell up. I know, I’ve heard this entire spiel 50 times already. And I don’t care. Get the fuck out or I’ll execute you. I’m the queen and what I say goes, so you keep their body alive on the stupid tubes as long as you can or else this entire hospital will be demolished.” Queen Nia got up, her fully black attire flowing as she walks past the doctor, “I’ll get going now. I have some business to take care of.”
Crowds of people murmuring, looking at the now roughed up Aleck Balslev in a see through plastic boxm, their Queen stood over them, on a step stool. Today is Aleck Balslev’s execution day. To pay for his crimes. Such as; Murder on the first degree, Betraying the queen, murder of a royal, treason, assault. As it turned out, Aleck was far above the weight max for Welterweight. Easily besting not only the now deceased Champion of Welterweight, but other big names.
A bag of rocks was next to the Queen, Aleck’s pitiful crying family all tied up forced to watch their father, son, brother get pummeled to death with rocks to the head by the Queen of Xelera. The fact she kept aiming at his skull was not missed by the crowd. Aleck Balslev has been slowly tortured to death via rocks, a suitable punishment. But not for Nia.
Nia went on to ban all forms of boxing or competitive fighting in Xelera. She’s built a statue right in front of the palace, a statue of you, forever immortalizing you. Her sexy spouse, smiling with the champion belt hung up in the air by your hands. You looked amazing. Nia also blocked off your previously shared room, not touching a single thing in the room, leaving it as it is, as you two had left it before you left for that godforsaken match.
Since then it has been noted that Queen Nia was no longer a happy person, she was cold, unfeeling, and always sporting a frown on her stunning face. Nia will never be the same person again. After watching the brutality that is your death she couldn’t find herself getting with a single other person. No one will ever live up to you. The champion of her heart.

Jimmy Doyle
James Emerson Delaney known professionally as Jimmy Doyle, was a welterweight boxer who died later in the hospital after a boxing match with Sugar Ray Robinson.
In 1947, Doyle challenged Sugar Ray Robinson for the World Welterweight Title. Robinson had the advantage in every round except the sixth, when he was staggered twice and received a cut over his right eye. A single left hook from Robinson, thrown as Doyle was attempting a right hook, ended the fight in the eighth round. Doyle fell backwards onto his back, hard. As the referee started counting, Doyle raised himself onto his elbows, and tried to use the ropes to gain his feet, but he couldn't. The bell ending the round struck as the referee counted off 'nine,' so Doyle was saved from a complete knock out by the bell. His handlers asked the ref to end the match, as Doyle was in no condition to go on.
Jimmy was taken to St. Vincent's Charity Hospital immediately after the bout, where he failed to regain consciousness and died a few hours later.
James Emerson Delaney died in Ohio on June 25, 1947 at the age of 22.

Algerian boxer Imane Khelif won a gold medal in the women's welterweight division and was her country's flag bearer in the Olympics closing ceremony. She's become a hero in Algeria and is bringing global attention to women's boxing. But what she's most famous for is the intense scrutiny about her sex and gender after a rain of online criticism and false claims during the Paris Olympics. Now, the Olympic boxing champion has filed a legal complaint in France for online harassment, according to her lawyer. In a statement posted Saturday to Instagram, Khelif's lawyer, Nabil Boudi, alleged "aggravated cyber-harassment" targeting Khelif. He described it as a "misogynist, racist and sexist campaign" against the boxer.

A Busy Week in Women's Boxing!
Was looking at the schedule for this week and there is so much happening in women's boxing so going to lay it all out in one convenient place.
Tumblr media
Over on Boxxer and Peacock we have Collision Course. In the main event, the IBF and WBC welterweight championships will be on the line, as champions Natasha Jonas and Ivana Habazin face off. Jonas is a former standout GB amateur that has found huge success in the pros. She's a two weight world champion. She's recently got a win over fellow multi division champion Mikaela Mayer. At 40 years old, she's made a good career for herself. Habazin is a Croatian boxer that is probably known best for being the loser in high profile match ups - Shields, Harper, Braekhus, Lauren, etc. But she is a two time world champion, having recently won a world title after having a ten year title drought.
In the co-main, Olympic gold medalist Lauren Price gets a mandatory fight out the way. She is coming off the biggest win of her pro career, a dominant win over former undisputed welterweight champion Jessica McCaskill for the WBA title. She'll take on Colombian Bexcy Mateus. Card is on Saturday (Dec. 14) on Peacock for those in the US. On SkySports for those in the UK.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Over on DAZN, Golden Boy Promotions has a card going down on Saturday (Dec. 14) as well. On the undercard we will get to see the return of former Olympic bronze medalist and former united flyweight champion Marlen Esparza. Esparza is coming off a big loss, where she lost her title on the scale, and then proceeded to lose on the cards. She is now moving up to super flyweight (115lbs). She'll take on fellow former flyweight champion Arely Mucino. Mucino is a long time veteran of the pro scene as well as a 4x world champion. She turned pro back in 2008 and has been competing at the highest levels of the sport since 2010. It's a good crossroads fight between two 35 year old boxers that are looking for one last run at world championships.
Tumblr media
Another former Olympian! Brazilian Beatriz Ferreira is back from her stint at the 2024 Olympic games. A silver medalist at the 2020 Olympics, she added a bronze medal to her cabinet this year. But she's also the IBW lightweight champion. It's a division that has suddenly filled up with interesting fighters - Caroline Dubois, Bo Mi Re Shin, Terri Harper, Imane Khelif, etc. So there are fights for someone like Beatriz to chase. But first, she'll have to get through Frenchwoman Licia Boudersa. Boudersa is one of those French fighters that has fought their whole career in France against meh opposition, so they have an impressive looking record just from staying active.
Tumblr media
We have a rematch this week. The last time Esneidy Rodriguez and Sana Hazuki, there was some wonkiness with the scoring so they're running it again. Rodriguez is an undefeated Mexican fighter on the come up. Sana Hazuki is a Japanese journeywoman. She's fought for a couple of world titles and come up short. Her record looks bad (12-9) but that's part fighting in a division with a small pool of fighters and part constantly fighting world champions (Yokasta Valle, Nanae Suzuki, Mika Iwakawa, Eri Matsuda). A true youth vs experience style match up.
Tumblr media
ANOTHER former Olympian! This time from Canada. 2020+2024 Olympian and former amateur world champion Tamm Thibeault will make her pro debut on Friday over on DAZN. Didn't even realize the Canadian had signed with MVP (Jake Paul's outfit) or was planning on going pro. Only 27 years old and in a division as shallow as middleweight, she's got the potential to go far. First she has to deal with journeywoman Natasha Spence.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Last we have a couple fights going down in Australia.
Kaye Scott is a 40 year old who is a pioneer of the sport in Australia. She was part of the first ever sanctioned women's fight in the country. She represented the country on the amateur scene for years, taking home silver medals up at light heavyweight in 2016 and 2023 at the world championships. She recently made her move pro in November 2023 and quickly rattled off 4 wins. Now she's getting a title shot. It's a rematch with Desley Robinson, a woman she beat earlier this year. Robinson is a known entity, having fought Lani Daniels for the LHW title as well.
Do you remember John Wayne Parr? Legend of Australian muay thai? Well his daughter, Jazzy Parr, is also a fighter. And a pretty good one at that. While she's done quite a bit of kickboxing and muay thai, she seems to have settled on boxing as her primary sport. At least for now. The 21 year old has run up a 6-0 record in the sport and looks poised to make a run at a world title at bantamweight. She is set to face her most experienced opponent to date, former world champion Shannon O'Connell.
There is more but I fear this might run long. But if you're even a tiny bit interested in any of these fights, I implore you to seek them out. It's a good week to start getting into women's boxing as there's a lot going on globally and a lot of it will be available on streaming or TV depending on where you live.

A Long Rant About the 2024 Olympics Boxing Gender Row
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Disclaimer: DO NOT REPOST. This post contains personal opinions and information gathered over the past week concerning female boxers and Olympic finalists đŸ‡©đŸ‡ż Imane Khelif (left) and đŸ‡čđŸ‡Œ Lin Yu-Ting (right), as well as their opponents. You are welcome to share your thoughts, but if you come to me with hate or an attempt to convince me they are men through claims such as that of XY chromosomes (which have never been proven, mind you), especially if you or your source(s) cite the corrupt, biased and discredited International Boxing Association (IBA), will be blocked and have your comment(s) deleted. If proper fact-checking is too much work for you, I suggest you save your energy and block me instead. On the other hand, if there are relevant updates or information that I may have missed, do let me know in the comments, and I will edit this post accordingly. Lastly, I do not condone the harassment of any of the individuals involved - that time is better spent on more valuable causes such as đŸ‡”đŸ‡ž helping Palestinians, đŸłïžâ€âš§ïž supporting trans people, and calling for the rearrest of convicted child rapist Steven van de Velde. Thank you for reading.
Angela Carini is not a hero.
We all know Carini abandoned her match not even a minute in and complained about being “punched too hard” by Khelif - who made the women’s lightweight quarterfinals in Tokyo. The cop competed in the welterweight division and lost her opening bout 2-3 to đŸ‡čđŸ‡Œ Chen Nien-Chin (who will join Khelif on the Olympic podium, fuck yeah).
Carini’s involvement has gradually garnered less attention since her apology, but she will have a long way to go before she can be forgiven, especially by Khelif. An Italian posted and translated her deleted tweet before the infamous 46-second bout clearly alluding to Khelif as a man, and AlgĂ©riĂ© Football MĂ©dia recently released a recording of Khelif, where she explains how Carini’s club and the Italian media took advantage of her.
What’s worse, the IBA decided to offer Carini a hundred grand as a “consolation prize.” At least this time the Italian federation values their dignity more and refused the money.
Luca HĂĄmori is not a hero.
Remember the Instagram story reshares that she had to take down? Besides the bull-headed giant, Hámori reshared another which called Khelif a korcsot - a dehumanizing Hungarian slur which Google interprets as “monster” or “freak,” but more accurately translates to “mongrel.”
Hámori entered the ring expecting to walk out as a “savior,” but it was Khelif who turned out to be the bigger person that day. Upon her victory, Khelif called out the IBA for their abuse towards her, but she fights on because of her faith in justice.
Svetlana Staneva is NOT A FUCKING HERO. Neither is her equally ill-informed coach, Borislav Georgiev.
This case makes me especially furious not just because I’m also a Taiwanese woman like Lin Yu-Ting, but also the abysmal immaturity of 34-year-old Staneva, THE SECOND OLDEST BOXER IN THE FEATHERWEIGHT DIVISION. Even Hámori has shown more decency in the ring, and she’s eleven years younger!
If you, like me, have watched their full match, you should acknowledge that Yu-Ting was undoubtedly the better boxer that day - same case in her RO16 bout against Sitora Turdibekova.
On the other hand, you’ll see that Staneva doesn’t need “protecting,” considering she literally held Yu-Ting by the head and SLUNG HER ACROSS THE RING (around 3:25-3:30). I’m sorry, Staneva, did you ever realize the audience was there to watch boxing and not wrestling?! And she calls herself a “proud XX woman.” Our commentators did not witness that gesture, but if they did I trust they would’ve been fuming as much as I have the past few days.
If she truly were a proud woman, she would not play dirty the entire time, then give up five seconds before the final bell. Look me straight in the eyes and tell me that you would want to be represented by such behavior. I feel sorry for the Bulgarians and her other supporters who had to witness such a shameful performance.
Oh, one more thing
Guess who the IBA gave a bronze medal in the 2023 World Championships after disqualifying Yu-Ting?
That’s right, it was Staneva. No wonder her coach was willing to give up all professionalism and pander to the IBA’s lies. And look what that got them - now they’re not allowed anywhere near the Olympic podium! This could be unlikely, but let’s hope they are punished by the IOC and/or any relevant departments back in Bulgaria.
Tumblr media
(I’m not going on Twitter for a better resolution of this photo. This one fries my eyes enough.)
Esra Yıldız Kahraman is not a hero.
I am at a loss of words.
What the actual fuck, Kahraman. We thought you were better than this.
I will only say this once. DO NOT confuse bad sportsmanship, disinformation, transphobia, (inter)sexism, and racism with “defending women’s sports.”
Reducing womanhood to chromosomes, genitalia, physical appearance, and/or some other bullshit is the most despicable and disgusting thing to come out of such hatred, and I will die on this hill. And gender tests? They were abolished due to their ineffectiveness at identifying maleness after Atlanta 1996, but the IBA won’t admit it. And considering their latest mess of a press conference, they would rather stay relevant with empty claims and unnecessary threats. Stop giving them the time of day! Listen to the podcast Tested instead for more info on this matter.
Imane Khelif and Lin Yu-Ting did not make the podium in Tokyo, but they will both leave Paris with their heads high up and medals hanging down their necks - all the while the likes of “fEmInIsTs” and bigots such as J.K. Rowling, Elon Musk, Donald Trump, and Logan Paul can only COPE AND SEETHE. Their victory is a victory for women, a victory for Algeria, a victory for Taiwan, and a victory for the boxing world that I never thought I’d care so much about.
I’m counting on Khelif and Yu-Ting to win gold and dunk on all the haters all over again. But respect to every other medalist in the welterweight tournament for being great sports - 🇹🇳 Yang Liu, đŸ‡č🇭 Janjaem Suwannapheng, and our dearest Nien-Chin. You all deserve the podium! 💖💖💖

Erin Reed at Erin In The Morning:
On Friday, cisgender Algerian female boxer Imane Khelif secured gold in the final match of her weight class, defying far-right critics who have falsely claimed she is “a man.” Despite being assigned female at birth and living her entire life as a woman, Khelif faced a barrage of attacks questioning her gender. However, her participation was met with overwhelming support and cheers as she entered the arena, and ultimately won her match. [...] The match started slowly and seemed evenly balanced, with Khelif narrowly taking the first round. In the second round, however, Khelif dominated, landing decisive blows as the announcers observed that the crowd was “clearly behind her.” By the end of the third round, it was evident that she had won, maintaining her dominance throughout the competition. When the final announcement declared her the winner, the crowd erupted in celebration.
Khelif’s victory comes after she faced intense criticism from far-right activists, major political figures, and opponents of transgender participation in sports. Despite never having transitioned genders, these critics labeled the cisgender female boxer as “a man.” For example, Donald Trump responded to Khelif’s previous win by declaring, “I WILL KEEP MEN OUT OF WOMEN’S SPORTS!” J.K. Rowling posted a picture of Khelif, stating, “Could any picture sum up our new men’s rights movement better? The smirk of a male who knows he’s protected by a misogynist sporting establishment enjoying the distress of a woman he’s just punched in the head, and whose life’s ambition he’s just shattered.” Others joining in include Elon Musk, Riley Gaines, and JD Vance. Disinformation about her gender identity even spread to major outlets, including the Boston Globe, which inaccurately referred to her as transgender. The paper quickly issued a major retraction of the claim.
After Khelif’s previous match, she remained defiant, stating, “I dedicate this medal to the world, and to all the Arabs and I tell you, ‘Long live Algeria! I want to tell the entire world that I am a female, and I will remain a female.” The original claim about Khelif’s sex eligibility arose when the scandal-plagued International Boxing Association (IBA) ruled her out of competition, alleging she failed an unspecified gender test after defeating an undefeated Russian boxer. Notably, the IBA is presided over by Umar Kremlev of Russia, an associate of President Putin. In 2023, the International Olympic Committee voted to derecognize the IBA due to concerns about corruption, governance, and judging controversies.
Transphobes lost this one: Cis female Algerian boxer Imane Khelif wins gold in the welterweight division of women's boxing.đŸ„‡đŸ‡©đŸ‡ż
