Bridging the Gap: The Vital Role of Psychological Counselors in Hong Kong
In Hong Kong, a city synonymous with skyscrapers and a hectic lifestyle, the importance of psychological counselors cannot be overstated. These professionals offer more than just therapy; they provide a bridge to better mental health and overall well-being for individuals facing the pressures of urban living.
At the forefront of this field is Dr. Katherine Lam, a seasoned psychological counselor whose expertise in anxiety and stress management has made a profound impact. Dr. Lam employs a variety of therapeutic techniques, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and mindfulness, to help her clients manage their daily stressors effectively. Her approach not only alleviates symptoms but also empowers individuals to take charge of their mental health.
Equally notable is Michael Tan, who specializes in relationship counseling and has helped numerous couples and families navigate the complexities of interpersonal relationships. His work emphasizes communication and understanding, crucial components in maintaining healthy relationships amidst the demands of city life.
Hong Kong also boasts specialized services like the WellMind Clinic, which caters to a broad spectrum of mental health issues from depression to career-related stress. The clinic's team of skilled counselors is dedicated to creating personalized therapy sessions that respect the unique background and needs of each client.
The role of psychological counselors in Hong Kong is critical. They not only address immediate mental health concerns but also contribute to the long-term resilience and happiness of the city's residents. By supporting mental wellness, these counselors enhance the quality of life in one of the world's most dynamic cities, proving that mental health care is as crucial as physical health care in achieving a balanced life.

How to see reality as it really is
At some point in our lives there will come a time when we need to be born again to life. We must actually learn how to see reality as it really is.
We have started to understand that we need to re-look at everything entirely in life. At some point in our lives there will come a time when we need to be born again to life. We must actually learn how to see reality as it really is. Our first birth is only where it started. It is incredible how everything in the world and the universe has two parts to it. Including ourselves. Our task in this…

Can you fit a thousand years of history in an insta description? We could dare but let us put it this way. Ever since we mentioned the concept of travelling actor troupes in our festival stream talks it sticked and refused to disappear. The theme felt oddly natural but yet kind of mysterious. And in fact it turns out to be an everlasting story of endless untold stories as well as infenite depth if you just seriously start thinking about it. What if we would tell you that strolling groups of actors vagabonding through all kinds lands, countries and climates shaped actively and practically exclusively the practise of theater that we know of today. When there was nothing but war, plagues, destruction, fanatism, narrow-mindedness and desperate lack of knowledge and culture there was always somewhere a troupe of wellminded, thinking people with a strive to develope and evolve. Despite the fear, risk and uncertainty. Neither bodily exertions nor malicious slanders, not borders or any other threats could lessen their will for truthseeking through performing art expression. There is something deeply philosophical about that way of life, education and training. Especially coz its an antisolitary practise. Living and working as a real collective. Not just in words but also in actions. Not for nothing dozens of generations of performers went through this most beautiful and exciting school of life. So did Shakespeare, so did Hamlet. In ideal cases this people saved lifes or shaped biographies, maybe even solved crimes. Many of these people mastered far more than one profession. This holy practise is realer than any phony pilgrimage and must not die! This should be part of every actors training just how it used to be. Its worth living for. Long live the vagabonding actors troupe on their way to the volcano's top, researching the mysteries of human ways! #strollingactors #travellingtheatertroupe #travellingtheatregroup #vagabondingactors #strollingtheater #wanderndetheater #wanderbuehne #stegreiftheater #commediadellarte #wanderschauspieler #travellingtheatrecompany #umherziehendeschauspieltruppe #schooloflife #lebensweg #bretterdiedieweltbedeuten #agontheaterberlin (hier: On The Road) https://www.instagram.com/p/CBg4s9CpJf2/?igshid=1lf9ky775wt23

What is a Introvert? "Introversion is a personality trait characterized by a focus on internal feelings rather than on external sources of stimulation. Introverts and extrovertsare often viewed in terms of two extreme opposites, but the truth is that most people lie somewhere in the middle. While introverts make up an estimated 25 to 40 percent of the population, there are still many misconceptions about this personality type. It is also important to note that introversion is not the same things as social anxiety or shyness. Being an introvert does not mean that you are socially anxious or shy." @verywell https://www.verywellmind.com/signs-you-are-an-introvert-2795427 Follow us on:😁 Twitter: @befiy4u Facebook: @befiy Instagram: @befiy Tumblr: @befiy #health #coach #blogging #blog #healthcoach #befiy #original #nerdoutwell #social #express #talk #communicate #wellnessblogger #wellness #blogger #holistic #natural #follow #like #followus #like #happy #life #introvert #vacation #wonderful #wellmind https://www.instagram.com/befiy/p/BxbLlhWFY7p/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1hi808ndclwq9

Starting University but Worried About Your Mental Health?
Starting University but Worried About Your Mental Health?
Starting University is daunting for anyone, but it becomes even more challenging if you already have an existing mental health problem. ‘How will I cope’ is probably one of the many questions running through your mind as you start this new chapter of your life. This was me and I want to share with you the things that I did when my mental health deteriorated throughout my studies.
1. Always Speak Up.
I learned this the hard way. There is a lot of pressure in first year for it to be ‘the best year of your life’ which was anything but for me. I felt so lonely and depressed during my first semester which is completely normal and is ok. However, I buried my head in the sand which only resulted in me feeling more isolated. Who could you confide in? Speak to a friend, a lecturer, a parent, a helpline (Crisis, Samaritans), university counselling service, student union, discussion forum or a GP.
2. Find a Mental Health App.
If you are finding it difficult to confide in someone then try to find an app for support while you build up the courage to do so. Some of these apps, such as the Big White Wall will allow you to get direct support from a therapist and doing this through an app makes some people feel more comfortable. Below I have made a list of some apps made for specific struggles:
• Self harm - BlueIce, Calm Harm, distrACT
• Negative thinking - Catch It
• Anxiety - Calm, SilverCloud
• Depression - WellMind, What’s Up?
• Suicidal feelings - StayAlive
3. Keep Emergency Helpline Numbers on Your Phone.
I had never thought of this until a lecturer told me to do so. When we fall into negative thinking traps, we tend to go further into them, resulting in us becoming narrow minded. It then becomes a vicious cycle where we think negatively, experience negative emotions and behave maladaptively, which only leads to more negative thinking. When we get caught up in this cycle, it becomes difficult to think of positive behaviours that we can engage in to interrupt the negative loop. When your brain is overly engaged in maladaptive thinking, but you are desperate for help, having numbers already saved will require less effort, making you more likely to seek out the right support at a time you need it the most.
4. Make sure you are registered with the Disability Student Allowance (DSA)
The DSA made the biggest difference to my mental health when I was studying, so please make sure you’re registered! I only found out about them in my second year but by then I was burnt out and needed their support a lot sooner than I got it. Being registered meant that I was able to record my lectures, have assistive technology on my laptop and a specialist mentor who I saw every two weeks.
5. Using Positive Psychology
Practicing gratitude alongside traditional forms of counselling really helped me. It is not about saying ‘so and so has it better than me’ or covering the negative thoughts, but rather allows us to notice the little things that have always been there. According to Barbara Fredrickson, when we regularly do this, we experience a burst of positive emotions. Being filled with positive emotion counteracts the negative emotions, which is why practicing gratitude is so powerful. There is always another side to everything, and usually that other side is full of wonder, but we miss it when we get too stuck in a negative loop.
Please never struggle on your own. From my own experience the longer you leave a problem, the more intense it will get. Remember, the only way through is through!

Useful Mental Health Apps
With organisations and app developers realising the importance of mental health and wellbeing there are more and more helpful and exciting apps being realised to support us. Here are just some I have come across which are all available on the App Store or Google Play.
Apps I have used
Headspace: https://www.headspace.com/
The mediation and mindfulness app. Everyone can try it out for free and learn the essentials of mediation and mindfulness in the beginners basic pack. If you enjoy the free sessions you can then subscribe and have access to more material to help with numerous areas of your life.
I tried the free trial a year of two ago and found it really interesting. It took a day or two for me to change the way I thought about it and was able to concentrate on the moment instead of get distracted on the past of future. I would have definitely carried on using the app if I had the money for the extra training packs. I recommend this app if you don’t know a lot about mediation / mindfulness and would like to as it slowly builds up your skills and knowledge over time.
Calm: https://www.calm.com/
The Calm App is composed of four main aspects: (1) Meditation (2) Sleep (3) Body (4) Music. Again like Headspace there are a number of free features including ‘7 days of Calm’ and ‘7 Days of Self Esteem’ as well as a vast collection of music separated into the groups; Sleep, nature melodies, Relax, Soundscapes and Focus.
Honestly, I haven’t used all of the free features available in the free version and have only listened to some of the music and sleep stories. Even though I haven’t engaged with everything available I honestly think that the app is great at helping me get to sleep and relax more when I’ m feeling anxious or stressed. I definitely recommend getting this app if you like a mixture of training sessions and an opportunity to do your own session if you want to.
Other apps which have good recommendations but I have never used before.
WellMind: http://www.dwmh.nhs.uk/wellmind/
A free NHS mental health and wellbeing app designed to help you with stress, anxiety and depression. The app includes advice, tips and tools to improve your mental health and boost your wellbeing.
Wysa: https://www.wysa.io/
This app is an AI based ‘emotionally intelligent’ bot, a virtual coach which responds to the emotions you express and uses evidence-based cognitive-behavioural techniques (CBT), DBT, meditation, breathing, yoga, motivational interviewing and micro-actions to help you build mental resilience skills and feel better.
For more info see the FAQs on the website.
BetterHelp: https://www.betterhelp.com/
BetterHelp is the largest online counselling platform worldwide. The app provides convenient, discreet and affordable access to a licensed therapist. BetterHelp makes professional counselling available anytime, anywhere, all you need is an internet connection.
Note: Fill the app itself is free you will have to pay to actually arrange sessions with a therapist.
For more information see the FAQs on the website.
Feel free to download any of the apps I’ve discussed and let us know what you think. Also feel free to leave any other apps you’ve found helpful in the comments.
