Hi, Barb! Aspiring writer here hoping to get some advice from you. While reading Blood Moon, I couldn't help but notice just how real and genuine the formable romantic relationships are. Even though the time span of the story isn't very long, the romance that forms doesn't seem the least bit implausible? How do you do that? Like, it's often way too common to have unrealistical depictions with stuff like "love at first sight" or something. But with the romance in Blood Moon, I can actually see it happening.
Thanks so much for the ask, anon. 💙
Unfortunately, I'm not 100% sure how to answer this. What worked for me might not work for you. Also, I think most of my advice is really generic. Still, I hope it helps.
1. Write romances that you would like to read. If you don't understand the appeal of a character or trope, you probably won't be able to do a good job writing it. All the romances in Blood Moon are based on romantic tropes/characters I personally like (the goofy best friend with a secret crush, the scary warrior who's actually really sweet and gentle beneath their hardened shell, etc). I didn't, for example, write a 'rich guy in a suit' romance option, or a 'second chance' romantic plotline because those aren't things I personally like (even though other people do, which is totally fine). So, focus on what you think is romantic, not what you think other people will like.
2. Read. I know this is super basic, but it's still some of the best writing advice out there. Read read read. You want to write romances? Read romances. Can't afford books? Libraries are free. Don't have a library? Read free stuff online. A03 is HUGE. If you read something you like, try to figure out why you like it. If you read something and don't like it, try to figure out what went wrong.
3. Don't wait until chapter six to introduce half your romance options. This is probably one of my biggest mistakes in Blood Moon. Shawnie, Roe, and Farro's romantic routes were much harder to write because I introduced them so late. Don't make the same mistake I did.
4. Make the romantic characters interesting, fun and/or compelling in a way that has nothing to do with romance. Marco ranted about octopus sex and became the most popular RO in Blood Moon for months. Carrie fans always tell me they love how she uses meanness to mask her fear. Sergi exploded in popularity after he experienced a shared trauma with the main character. None of these things are explicitly romantic, but they made the characters more interesting for the readers.
I really hope that's useful, anon. Good luck. 💙

Have to remind myself however my writing turns out, in the future it will be a sliver reflecting the state of my impression as it was right now at this time.
And that's valuable in its own way. Nice to look back and experience how I saw things, decided to word them and what to value and how to speak, in a prior moment.
#rant#writing#idk just like. i reread an old spirk fic i wrote. and the style opens a#way i NEVER would open now. for like 5 pages. and its funny. thays the FIRST fiction writing id done since middle school#it was SO different than my old writing. and its SO different than how i write now. its a snapshot of me in college#what i valued how i saw the piece of artwork that is writing#and you know? people loved it. if i wrote it now i know id belittle myself and doubt the choices#but when i wrote it in college i didnt think at all about style or good or bad or quality#i just HAD a story and wanted it to exist. and for some people it felt special. it was and is special#and i think thats enough proof that whatever i weite now#and however i write it. however it turns out. it will be special to me#writing advice

pls spencer and bombshell reader where she like sacrifices herself for him or does something outrageous for him. i love your weiting!! 💝
You don’t have any other choice, Spencer’s on the other roof being held in a chokehold by the UnSub —rational thinking goes out the window. He sees your face and, though he’s starting to look a little blue, gestures wildly for you to not do what you’re thinking.
You jump.
You take the landing hard —you ran hard, jumped harder, cringing as the grit of the rooftop tears through your shoulder. You roll into it. In one moment you’re standing, and then you’re knocking the assailant off of your boyfriend just before he falls unconscious.
You forget everything you’re supposed to remember, flipping the UnSub without care onto his front, yanking his arms back, and cuffing him tightly. He’s a serial child murderer, so it’s kinder than he deserves.
“Stay down,” you warn, cuffs so tight you can see the perp’s hand changing colour. You’ll have to fix that soon, but you have more important matters at hand. “Spencer?”
His answer is hoarse, “Yeah.”
You leave the UnSub where he’s laid down and rush to Spencer. You drop to your knees beside him, alarmed that he’s still curled up and gasping. Hey, hey, what can I do?”
He grabs your arm and sucks in another breath.
“Spencer?”
“Why did you do that?” he asks.
“What?”
“What did you do to your arm? Does it hurt?”
Spencer can barely breathe and he’s asking you if you’re okay. You can see the spots in his eyes. Fuck, he scared you.
“I’m fine,” you say softly, holding him by the shoulders. “Take a deep breath, can you do that for me?”
Your shoulder stings like you’d landed on glass and there’s an ache in your bones from the impact, but the source of your racing pulse is the look on his face, as though he might still pass out. You cringe at the sound of approaching footsteps, but it’s Morgan and Hotch making their way across the gravel top to help you. You turn back to Spencer in relief.
He takes another huge breath. “Good job,” you say quietly, but saccharinely, rubbing his poor chest. “Do you want to sit up?”
“I can’t.”
“Okay. Alright. Just take a breath.”
“Maybe you should take your own advice,” he croaks, putting his hand over your heart.
“I’m fine.”
“Just breathe.” He says your name like a secret. “Just breathe.”
Of course. He’s lying on the ground panting for his life and he’s telling you to calm down.
Morgan has the UnSub up and moving. Hotch kneels beside you both, face lined with poorly concealed stress. “You okay?” he asks. “Spencer?”
“She jumped across the roof.”
“Spencer.” You’re half wounded, half humoured.
Hotch raises his eyebrows at you both. “Well, that’s ridiculous. Are you alright?”
“I’m fine. Spencer almost got choked out.”
Hotch looks as though he might give in and rub his face, but he pats your arm instead. “Okay. Reid, can you stand up?”
“Tell her she can’t– can’t jump across rooftops,” Spencer says, suddenly full of indignation as he pushes up onto his elbows. He looks like he’s been hung upside down and shook.
“Well, clearly I can.”
“L/N shouldn’t be jumping across rooftops for any reason, but you’re both…” Hotch smiles wryly. “I almost said unharmed.”
Spencer flops down onto his back. When he speaks, he sounds in a strange place, close to tears and laughing alike, “You have to look at her arm.”
“I think you both need to see a medic, but first, why don’t we all calm down. Let’s regain our senses, and prevent any further unnecessary pain.”
Spencer gives your leg an uncharacteristic whack. He’s so messed up from the chokehold that it’s more like a stroke, but you feel the tap for what it is. He’s saying Don’t do that to me again.
“He really was gonna kill you,” you say, sorry.
“I had it.”
“Respectfully, baby, you did not.”

Qould realy love some weiting tips from you. I really love the emotional aspect of your writing and id really love some tips on how you get the flow and inspiration for plot and theme andand how to be a hood writer and everything.cen if you feel like youve no tips just know that im like a complete amateur whos never written anything in her life but would like to start.so any advice is appreciated
hmmmm this is hard, because writing is subjective and everyone does things differently. honestly, i think all writers or up-and-coming writers should take a grammar course because bad grammar immediately turns people away. i'd recommend looking into dialogue tags, sentence structure, and things like that! so when it's time to get what's in your head out onto the paper, it's easy to organize at least and make it flow well

Achte daher jeden Musiker an seiner Stelle. Dies macht dich musikalisch. Read the full article

Getting some ideas for aot x sashas sister reader.
I just wanted to weite this scene haha
PLEASE GIVE ME ADVICE ON WHAT TO EDIT OR CHANGE ALSO IDEAS ON WHO OR WHAT LOVE INTERESTS THE CHARACTERS SHOULD HAVE!!
For this one i was thinking jean x reader, maybe some parts with connie but we will see
This one is like a “she feel first but he feel harder”
I plan to write all of those in my poll but what even gets greatest to least ill write them in that order get it?
PLEASE VOTE ON MY POLL!!
x reader sashas sister
x reader erens sister, titan user
x reader childhood friend of reiner etc, was kidnapped to paradis island and turned into a titan user or someshit its a rough idea
——
A horrified look on my face , ‘no way is sasha… eating… RIGHT NO-!’ Before even finishing the thought you went to grab the potato before sadis saw. On reflex she fought back, as you both fought she holding your face back basically her hand in your mouth holding your jaw, to add drool was also now going down your face. you grabbed both her arms, one trying to rip it out of your mouth and the other trying to get the potato or was originally now just trying to also grab her face. “Sh-shaush-“ in barley a whisper trying to speak some way a shadow casted before you both. Sadis. “You think this is a joke?” A gulp very loud almost in sync from you both.
“State you names you sorry sacks of titan shit!” He grabs sashas potato squashing it in his hands. (Probably will change this to like her going completely normal and blah blah normal potato scene) At this point still with a hand in your face it was suddenly gone a horrified look came across her face. Sasha sheds a tear holding back “s-sasha braus! Sir!” …
The whole potato convo ill write in later with edits
Swiftly his head was now at you, “(y/n) b-raun! Sir!” Choking up a but. “So you think its funny to start a cat fight while in battle!” Sweating you glance around, many eyes on you guys, still drool evident on your face. “Sir! No sir! Sorry but… we arent in a battle right now..!” Silence followed, “what did you just say…” “we arent in-“ about to repeat your self he grabs your face, almost like how sasha did moments ago but instead of a hand in your mouth he just covered it with a vice grip. “Ill make sure to have you as target practice…” flinching he pushed your face backwards stumbling to the ground. Baffled you yelp, “wanting to be a soldier but cant even shut your mouth! Why are you even here!!” Still sprawled on the ground but now on your elbows you cant help but look helpless, how embarrassing…
“I want to help humanity rid of titans! Even if i cant see the end i want to at least be a stepping stone to victory!!” Even on the ground, the dust cloud disappearing, dirt sticking to your face aswell as all over your clothes. Somehow getting the confidence to say such a thing. “You think youll mean something? You wont even get close to helping youll just be dead before you can achieve such a feet!! Your death wont mean dog shit!!” after he walks away. With his back turned sasha scrambled to get you up yanking you by the arm and armpit helping dust you off. Some eyes still lingering as others tried covering up laughs which sadis did point out going after next.

Ughh, yet another show I liked ruined by the desperate desire to amp up at the end of the season instead of letting some questions be answered and only leaving certain threads open.
Storytelling doesn't work that way!
A stort can be ruined by a bad ending because that's the last image/feeling you leave your audience with.
If you leave them dissatisfied, they won't come back because what they'll remember is that dissatisfaction they felt at the end. That is what lingers.
However, if you answer enough questions (or close enough plot loops) while leaving some open, not only do your audience feel satisfied and that satisfaction lingers with them enough to give positive feelings about potential sequels, but, since you didn't answer all the questions, you still have them lingering on and hoping for a sequel.
Not only that but leaving some things for the audience to headcanon and theorise about that you never fully answer can be a really great way to keep people talking (and making fanfiction) about a particular story.

Niall Horan Warns Fans Against 'Saying Anything They Want' To Celebrities Online
This is so entirely true. Since this is a ongoing issue right now within the 5SOS fandom. Niall is right, celebs are people to and they also have feelings and are normal people just with a abnormal type of job. Feel free to like and repost this.

BERRYMAN
by W.S. Merwin
I will tell you what he told me
in the years just after the war
as we then called
the second world war
don’t lose your arrogance yet he said
you can do that when you’re older
lose it too soon and you may
merely replace it with vanity
just one time he suggested
changing the usual order
of the same words in a line of verse
why point out a thing twice
he suggested I pray to the Muse
get down on my knees and pray
right there in the corner and he
said he meant it literally
it was in the days before the beard
and the drink but he was deep
in tides of his own through which he sailed
chin sideways and head tilted like a tacking sloop
he was far older than the dates allowed for
much older than I was he was in his thirties
he snapped down his nose with an accent
I think he had affected in England
as for publishing he advised me
to paper my wall with rejection slips
his lips and the bones of his long fingers trembled
with the vehemence of his views about poetry
he said the great presence
that permitted everything and transmuted it
in poetry was passion
passion was genius and he praised movement and invention
I had hardly begun to read
I asked how can you ever be sure
that what you write is really
any good at all and he said you can’t
you can’t you can never be sure
you die without knowing
whether anything you wrote was any good
if you have to be sure don’t write

Thanks for the advice about how to write the fanfic, however instead of actually writing that segment (as i am completely garbage at weiting) i wrote down a short summary and any facts for it i could think of
Of course! That's a start!!!! Just get it down on paper. Or word document / note
Once it starts existing somewhere other than your head, it gets easier and easier

hello! your weiting really is an inspiration to me (both in english and in portuguese) - i personally think you can make anything you write so... soulful? you truly have a talent to write things so beautifully in both languages.. i was wondering if you have any writing tips for someone whos not used to but wants to start writing more?
Aw, nonnie, this is SO SWEET. I don’t even know how to thank you!
Honestly, it’s going to sound like a dumb advice, but the only way you can write more is by... writing more.
Sometimes you don’t have to write a fic or a story. You can write anything. Notes. Song lyrics you hear. Things in your head, even if they’re not interesting. One thing I always liked to do was to describe what’s happening around me and try to add my random thoughts into it. Like, right now, for example:
I am sitting on my bed and the duvet is light lilac. The construction sounds around my building are a weird, disarranged symphony. The sun is very bright today, it hurts my eyes a little. I can’t really remember what life was like before I started wearing glasses. I wonder if I saw the colors differently, if the lilac would look stronger, or if it has faded with time. I wonder how the silence would sound right now.
This is all a good exercise for you to start getting familiar with words and moods, especially in another language.
If there are days when I don’t write A WORD of my fics, I try to write something else. Anything, really. When I was away from the fandom I kept journals. Etc.
The key to improve your writing and to get more familiar with the act of writing, is writing a lot. The other key is just reading. Reading, learning new words as you read (in any language, even your mother language) and mimicking what you like and mixing it with your own voice until something is only yours.
I hope it helps somehow. This inbox made me very happy! 🥰️

As someone just starting to get into actually putting my weiting out where people can see it, what tips do ypu have for maximizing your visibility? i.e. what tags do you find most effective? Does reblogging your own posts get a lot more engagement? Etc... If you don't have any particular advice that's okay! I just love your stuff and how you do thongs and seem really well set, so. You seemed like a great peraon to ask ^^ Either way, thanks for creating!
Hi Anon! I’m not sure that I’m a necessarily a great person to ask, because I’m still mostly a newbie in this particular writing community...but I’m no stranger to writing and online communities in general! First let me say--kudos to you! Sharing your art or writing for the first time can be scary, and putting yourself out there is daunting, but you gotta start somewhere!
I think the first step is actually just that--putting yourself out there. I’m a firm believer in putting in what you hope to get out, in any situation. If you want to get eyes on your work and build likes/reblogs, you need to look in the mirror and ask if you’re doing the same for other creators. That isn’t an edict that you must reblog everything that comes across your dash, but you’ve got to get yourself out there somehow, and liking things, sharing things, getting your name out there as a member of the community is a good place to start!
That being said...you can’t rely on other people solely. Self-promotion isn’t a bad thing at all, especially on a platform like this where it’s easy for things to be missed. I make every effort to follow back the people who follow me, because I know how shitty it can feel to not be followed back, particularly if they’re the same people who are supporting me, but as a result I have a very cluttered dash and I miss stuff. Too much stuff! (I have a sideblog for posting fics-- @monster-baits-bookshelf, and I know several other people do as well, @aelia-likes-stories and @cozylibrarycorner are a few I follow--and I mosey over to their pages every once in a while to look for pieces I might have missed!) We all know that Tumblr has been super janky as of late, so there is nothing wrong with self-promotion to get your stuff out there! I will usually reblog my own work for the first three days after posting. If people don’t like it? 🤷♀️
I have seen the advice given to tag some of the “big” creators to ask for reblogs, and honestly, that’s not something I would ever feel comfortable doing myself, so it’s not advice I’m going to give. Big name fans can’t prop up an entire community on their shoulders and frankly, I think it's unfair to expect them to. The people in the middle need to support each other, not just rely on 3 or 4 people to do all the heavy lifting. I’m personally only friends with one or two people in this particular community and I don’t expect them to reblog my work, so I’m not about to slide into some stranger’s DMs like “hey, we’ve never once engaged but will you please support me? 😁”
Tags--we all know know that the first five tags are the ones that count, right? Since they’ve got to count, I make a point of using the bigger tags as my first five--Exophilia, monster boyfriend, terato, etc. After the five you throw in whatever you want--all of my writing is tagged monsterbait writes, for example, but I don’t use that as one of the searchable five.
My biggest piece of advice--don’t get discouraged. I wish there was a magic answer for gaining visibility, but there’s not. Create work that YOU are proud of. Be your own biggest fan. Engage with other people in the community. Treat other people’s work the way you want your own to be treated.
Above all, unless you’re doing this as a job, have fun! I look forward to seeing your work (aka, please do tag me when you post!)
