So...

Ever since Weinlesefest (a.k.a. "for two years now"), my head simply can't stop coming up with new scenarios in which Diluc would use the mom-card to emotionally blackmail Kaeya into having dinner at the Winery...

Just a few examples:

Kaeya goes to the Winery somewhat close to dinner time to discuss some request from the Knights

Diluc: okay, I believe we can discuss the details over dinner and-

Kaeya: Diluc, I appreciate the offer, but it's not that important, we can talk about it quickly, and then I'll be out of your hair

Diluc: you don't want to have Adelinde’s food tonight? Then sure, I guess we can talk about it before dinner

(she's standing right there in the same room)

Diluc: so, I was thinking we could do something especial for Adelinde’s birthday next week

Kaeya (still unsure he's welcome at the Winery because he's emotionally dumb): oh, I'll be swamped with work, I'm not sure I'll be able to come over

Diluc: surely you can ask Jean for a day off. Unless you don't want to come over for Addie's birthday... I'm sure she'll understand when I tell her...

(And he’s so fucking proud of himself every single time because it always works, without fail)

Kaeya visits the Dawn Winery... a lot.

He has multiple reasons and excuses that change every time he is greeted by Adelinde.

An investigation on the Darknight hero.

A mission he received from Jean.

A short detour from his patrols.

One time, all he did was ask for a glass of wine before he went his merry way.

Another, he spent a bit more time within the building, creating jam with Adelinde.

Diluc occasionally catches the man approaching the winery from a distance. If he was lucky enough to evade Kaeya's attention, he would send Adelinde to talk to the cavalry captain in his stead. As for the other times, Kaeya would glance up to meet his eyes from where the cavalry captain was standing by the entrance - thru his tinted windows somehow. The younger man's eyes would be glinting mischievously, his ever-present smirk slowly growing on his face.

"Gotcha," his face seemed to imply.

Diluc simply huffs in frustration before leaving his room to spend a couple of moments bantering with the other.

Diluc knows how frequent Kaeya's visits were. He fully expects at least 2 visits in a week...

...The idea that Kaeya frequently visits but never stays... leaves a bitter taste in Diluc's mouth.

Kaeya himself had said that Dawn Winery was his home. If he thought so, why was he always doling out excuses just to be here?

Doesn't Kaeya know he is welcome any time?

Does Kaeya know he could stay?

Like clockwork, Kaeya visits the Dawn Winery.

This time, Kaeya manages to meet his eyes- thru the tinted windows somehow.

Diluc huffs, leaves his room, and meets the other by the entrance.

Kaeya tries to give an excuse for his visit.

Diluc interrupts by saying "you don't need a reason to come home".

.

'Gotcha' Diluc thinks. He feels as if he won something upon being met by Kaeya's stunned face and hearing Adelinde's giggles at the background.

Kaeya: Diluc gets rid of things he doesn’t need anymore…with how much he resents me, I must be no different-

Diluc:

Never banned Kaeya from the tavern, even with their History and how much Kaeya pesters him there nor makes any moves to

Kept every single letter Kaeya wrote to him while in Snezhnaya, which was also the vast majority correspondence penned by one person he kept in the Winery's stash (every Letter in Beautiful Handwriting/Hidden Strife Event)

Kept the fucken vase Kaeya used on a whim to give his Vision back in, even if it did NOT match the decor of the Winery (Genshin Manga/Venti SQ/Kaeya Hangout)

Was extremely patient with Kaeya accusing him of casting aside Crepus' legacy in response to him telling Kaeya to drink responsibly (Venti SQ)

In that same dialogue, was more in disbelief/offended that Kaeya seemed to believe he would ever think of callously throwing him out than by Kae's comment abt Crepus of all things (Venti SQ)

Stayed with Kaeya on the island the entire time, no matter how much they bickered, even though he could have gone after one of the others or even taken off on his own like they did instead (Midsummer Island Adventure)

Was genuinely surprised/touched when Kae revealed he thought fondly of their childhood days gathering seashells (Echoing Tales)

Let himself get arrested for Kaeya’s harebrained scheme to save a little girl Luc didn't even know about previously, and RIGHT after Kaeya outright accused HIM of being the murderer too (Genshin Manga)

Gave Kaeya a free drink without being asked when he came to visit him to deliver the aforementioned vase after the scheme was complete (Genshin Manga)

Never refuted Kaeya's claim that Dawn Winery was his home too, nor Kae's claims that people had every right to visit 'home' during festival seasons (Weinlesefest)

Let Kaeya score free booze for the Knights to distribute for the Weinlesefest to help better their image, that Lisa specifically sent Kaeya to ask of Diluc bc she KNEW Diluc wouldn’t say no to him (Weinlesefest)

Expressed he would have Elzer speak with Hertha bc Kaeya mentioned the Knights' financial situation as an afterthought, despite how much Diluc dislikes the Knights (Weinlesefest)

Got moody bc Kaeya didn’t want to stay for dinner and IMMEDIATELY jumped at the chance to make Kaeya stay when Addie intervened to insist (Weinlesefest)

Lets and NEVER stops the servants from referring to Kaeya as ‘master’ too (They do so freely in front of him in Weinlesefest & Kaeya Hangout in particular)

Was perfectly okay with Kaeya staying at the Winery when he left, even after their dispute (Letter with Clear Handwriting/Hidden Strife)

Always remembers every single one of Kaeya’s silly excuses to try and get free wine out of him, and teases him for forgetting which he’s already used & precisely how long ago he did (Kaeya Hangout)

Is said, by Elzer, to in fact be completely fine with Kaeya stealing drinks from the Winery, even if he outwardly complains abt it (Kaeya Hangout)

Solemnly asks about Kaeya when he thinks Kaeya already left, and unpromptedly talks him up to Traveler in regards to Kae's own ability to the Winery (Kaeya Hangout)

Tactical may very well be the perfect way to describe it, for Diluc has long been stood in one spot, fully absorbed in a world of his own as he distanced himself from all of the noise and fanfare of yet another festival as it came and went, seeking a quiet place to escape to for just a few short hours.

It may well be a good opportunity to push a few extra sales and contribute to Mondstadt's culture, but that was a task better left to the staff in his employ: people who could adequately embody the sort of cheer appropriate for the occasion.

It's understandable that he's not expecting to be approached at all, nevermind by lithe arms that snake around his torso and hold firm. Eyelids flutter open to glance down at the sight before him: Venti, arms opened in an embrace that equally touches and bewilders the young Ragnvindr.

He feels ... not too unlike a warm breeze on a summer's day, and it comes as an unexpected comfort.

In that moment, it is enough to part the stormclouds that caused his brows to furrow and his shoulders to weigh so heavily with the guilt of feeling unable to fit in.

His expression quite visibly softens, strong arms enveloping the other's shorter frame as he lifts him upon the very tips of his toes, head bowed low to return that warm embrace with one of his own.

"Thank you, friend; I needed that."
