Let's focus on Austria🇦🇹 today, shall we? Have you ever heard about Welschriesling? Or maybe it sounds more familiar to you as Riesling Italico? A refreshing variety that I will talk about soon on my blog but I want to mention now, it has not much to do with the well-known Riesling variety. It is a brand new vintage by Weingut Schauer @schauer_styrianwinegrower a 2020 from Südsteiermark DAC. I also have a quick guide about Austrian labelling terms on my website, if you don't know what DAC is, check it out! Now let's get back to this lovely bottle! It has a pale lemon color with silver hue and a medium viscosity. The nose is very green with green apples, freshly cut grass, lemon, lime, white peaches and white blossom flowers. A pleasant dry wine, medium plus acidity, medium alcohol and a light body with a little spritz left in the bottle. The flavours are similar than the one on the nose (lime, green apple, white peaches) with medium plus lenght. It is a good quality wine which best to drink while it's young, 1-2 years after harvest when it is cooled down to 8-10 °C. A pleasant sip on its own during summer time or as a spritzer with some sparkling water. If we want to pair it next to food, we need something really light and refreshing like raw fish, oysters, a scallop carpaccio or tartare for example. It is about time to taste a Grüner Veltliner again, isn't it? From the Wachau, today we are having a Federspiel Grüner 2019 produced by Domäne Wachau. Grüner is the flagship variety of the country and Domäne Wachau @domaenewachau makes some very good example of this grape! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ For more information about the variety, you can check out my blog as I have an article about it and I have a feeling that I will give you some detailed information about the winery too very soon!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It is a pale lemon coloured wine with a medium minus viscosity. It has a lovely refreshing smell of lemon, lime, apple, pear, white pepper, white blossom flowers and some chalky minerality.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This is a dry wine with high acidity, medium alcohol and a light body. We have citrus fruits (lemon, lime), green apple flavours and white pepper on the background with a long finish.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Good quality wine which best to drink while it is young and fresh, chilled to 8-10°C. Perfect on its own next to the pool or with seafood, shellfish, sushi and lighter fish based dishes or even creamy cheeses.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Have you ever tasted a Grüner Veltliner?
