the way that i literally can’t stop thinking about this ff the whole sharingan rising series changed my life. i need to study for an english exam that’s worth 50% of my grade but no im going to think about this fic.
this categorically better than anything else on this website it’s not even funny. the use of religion, metaphors, the hurt, the depression, everything was portrayed to perfection it’s actually insane.

Just finished rereading In Good Company and happened across your post about it and wanted to say that that line, "you looked me in the eyes, and you told me it was honorable for me to kill my big brother", utterly devastates me every single time too. Every time I reread it it hits the same all over again. That and when Sasuke says to Hashirama, “I would have listened to you. I always did.” Literally straight to the heart every. single. time. But that fic is truly beautiful and I'm so glad to know I'm not the only one who rereads it and thinks about it still.
yes!!! i feel like it’s impossible to read it just once, no matter who you are

god just did my annual reread of @weialala-leia sharingan rising and always her prose and attention to detail takes my breath away. each reread yields something new - a missed reference or detail, a deeper perspective on grief and healing. i cannot stress enough how formative her writing has been in my teenage and now early adulthood years. its truly been a privilege to grow up with this fic.
#sharingan rising#weialala leia#fanfic rec#this is hands down one of the best fics I have ever had the privilege of reading#I hope she’s doing well wherever she is#thank you

sometimes i go back and i read Sharingan Rising by @weialala-leia and everytime i fall in love by how the struggles of communication, how longing, and depression are all written in a way that is engaging and tragic. the series is incomplete. it hasnt been updated since 2020. but its one i go back to the most, because something doesnt have to be complete to be beautiful.

athy... what is your favorite ever fic?
kekekeke anon would it surprise you to know that my fave fic is a naruto one?
it's called In Good Company by weialala and it has made me weep. my chest has physically ached at certain parts. the lore and world building and development of every single character in the story is breathtaking. i have followed this fic for years, maybe around 7-8 years ago? the series, Sharingan Rising, stands at over 400,000 words and is not done. the last time the author updated was 2020, and i remember reading the chapter thinking spring had come. i think of the author all the time.
if you mean favourite fic in f1, i'm probably unable to pick just one! if you have a specific pairing, i could give you a list ;))

In 2021 I got really into reading books.
One of my favorite aspects of it was getting to see my stats at the end of the year. Something about seeing it all in neat little charts and graphs was really satisfying to me. In 2022 I got back into fan fiction and was annoyed at the lack of anything similar.
I set out this year to rectify that for myself.
Starting with a Notion that eventually moved over to Sheets with an attached form to fill out, I tracked each and every fic I read this year, all 168 of them.
The above images are the results.
(Q&A + Fic Recs under the cut)
Q&A Time - Readers Addition
While looking around to see what other fic readers included on their AO3 Unwraps I stumbled across this fun questionnaire ask box meme. I figured instead of posting and waiting for questions I’d just answer them because I really wanted to.
You can check out the original post of questions by clicking here!
Fic you clicked on the most times this year?
That would be Kings and Pawns by HittoSama. Now there are some caveats to this. First, it was the fic I was reading while building my first fic tracker over on Notion. While building it and then again when building it in Sheets, I had to go copy the link a good few times. It’s also a pretty long fic and I was reading it before I was downloading to read them in Books. Between reading on different devices, as well as going back to link it on a few rec lists I made this year for friends….it racked up the hits from me! But it is a great fic, wonderfully written, and has some of the best Shikamaru characterization I’ve come across so you should all go check it out.
First fic you clicked on this year?
Also Kings and Pawns. It was my first read of the year.
Your most read Fandom this year?
Naruto. It’s actually the only fandom I’ve read this year. I have plans to branch out in 2024 but we’ll see how that goes.
Your most read pairing this year?
Kakashi Hatake / Sasuke Uchiha. I’ve read 72 works for them this year.
Most popular fic by hits you read this year?
In Good Company by Weialala reigns supreme with over 404,000 hits.
Your personal favorite fic you read this year?
In Good Company and its sequel Ragnarǫkr by Weialala were both standouts this year that I ended up rereading three times.
Most recent fic you clicked on?
Technically Ragnarǫkr as I needed to fetch the spelling but not counting stuff looked up for this challenge, last clicked on fic would be The Blood-Soaked Road to Paradise by Renyanen. I’ve not read it yet but I was compiling my tbr for 2024 and it’s one I’m looking forward to checking out.
Highest word count fic you read this year?
An unpublished story I co-wrote with my friend. It comes in at 643,478 words and is based on the concept of Itachi taking Sasuke with him to the Akatsuki. It’s my favorite thing and honestly very self indulgent and unlikely to ever see the light of day. Ten of ten recommend every fic writer to have one of these.
Shout out an incomplete fic you read this year?
From This Earth by Embers. I’m really looking forward to reading more of it in the future!
Oldest fic you read this year?
I’m pretty sure nothing else I read beats In Good Company by Weialala. She began writing it over on FF.Net back in 2008. It’s sequel is currently incomplete and I await the day she returns to finish it. 🙏🏻
That more or less wraps us up here!
As a final section, as I take my leave, I want to give a small recommendation list based on my favorite fics I read this year. Many of these were mentioned above in the questions and images, some of them weren’t but still come highly recced from me. Enjoy!
The Rec List (in no particular order):
Kings and Pawns by HittoSama Sharingan Rising Series (In Good Company / Ragnarǫkr) by Weialala Wild Things by TheAdventuresOf From This Earth by Embers Eye to Eye by Embers Scarlet Ink and Paper Swords by Renyanen Mosaic Eyes by BitchBot3000 Hold Your head Up and Run by TakaGang Why Storms Are Named After People by Naava

Hey uh, @weialala-leia I swear I was going to go deep diving and spend 15+ hours researching (unecessary research and fanfic go hand in hand) but then I realized...I can just ask.
I did a body study for Rin but I’m dying here. I can’t figure out if she’s a constrictor or an elapid snake species. She’s gotta be chunky to constrict but her speed equates to a viper but the thickness and venom and so many factors. At this point I’m torn between a hybrid of a Gaboon Viper and a Eastern Diamondcross Rattlesnake if only for the viper capabilities but the chubby constrictor aesthetics.
Pls I’ll draw you pretty things halp
Luv u, ~Oceanbreeze7

alright for my last celebration of fanfic author’s day, I want to give a rec for weialala. her sharingan rising series is some of the best fic I have ever come across. in good company is one of the best things i’ve read ever.
her works have made me cry and laugh and even generate my own mental aus for (freakin called the rips on space and time). she’s an amazing writer.
i would rec sharingan rising to anyone basically. for anyone who likes sasuke, likes world building in naruto, or likes sasunaru, this series is a must. if you have only a passing familiarity with naruto, i still recommend this series as it offers a world that’s been filled in with care and such thoughtfulness. you don’t need understanding of canon to enjoy it. weialala has created something that can stand on it’s own.
and it all starts with sasuke seeing dead people
#she also just updated so hell yeah#weialala#sharingan rising#fic rec#happy fanfic author's day everyone!!#imma pass out soon now

These are just things I’ve read that give me autumnal vibes - something melancholy, something that lingers a little while longer, something irrevocably and undeniably human.
Austen’s Persuasion or ‘95 film
Stoner by John Williams - quiet, understated, beautiful
Cormac McCarthys The Road - the prose is barren but my heart is full
Banana Yoshimoto’s Asleep - I can’t stop thinking about this one description about the sun setting over the river; so simple, yet indescribably tender
Murakamis South of the Border, West of the Sun
Goodnight Mister Tom - a childhood favourite about healing
Hollow Men by T.S. Eliot - that poignant image of “sunlight on a broken column” but of course all of his works have this inexplicable melancholy to them
Thomas Grays Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard
Sharingan Rising by @weialala-leia - a deep and nuanced take on grief and family
Anything by @blue-plums but perhaps a favourite - Go the Converse - imbued with a gentle yet unviolable hope
March Comes in Like a Lion - though the manga is lovely, the music and stunning graphics of the anime render it truly heartbreakingly sincere
Kiyo in Kyoto or the lovely live-action Makanai: Cooking for the Maiko House - the small happiness of ordinary days
