The Adviser (17/45) | Bechloe Mafia AU
These Grand Schemes - Chapter Preview (read the rest at ao3)
"Why are you even here?" Flo asked dryly as the tenants, minus their beloved lawyers and Emily, all gathered in her canteen for their weekly informal gatherings.
Who was she asking?
Bumper, Donald, and this random guy who was constantly on a unicycle that they just happen to call Unicycle.
Amy has been just as curious as Flo herself. The last few days, they've seen the three of them keeping a low profile and working on opening an office in the tower. Now, Bumper was here with a basket of fruits and a stack of calling cards.
"I think we should just call Beca and the others," Jessica then noted.
"Nonononononono," Bumper quickly rambled on. "Please, we're here to make peace not war. We're actually opening a travel agency, here," he went on to say, handing each of them a calling card.
"Bye Bye Balloon?" Ashley asked sounding incredibly confused.
"Yes! We're the premiere travel agency for those wanting to escape the country… I mean travel via hot air balloon, weather permitting." Bumper then said.
"Why?" Stacie then asked just as dryly as Flo did. "What new ploy is this to kick us out?"
"Not a ploy, ma'am," Donald then said.
"Do I look like a ma'am to you?" Stacie then asked with a raise of an eyebrow.
"No, no, s-sorry," Donald quickly apologized.
Bumper asked his associate to step aside and walked towards Amy and her fellow long-time tenants. He bowed down and muttered his apologies.
"We got off to a bad start, and that's probably because we were bad, but we're good now, I promise! We had a chilling epiphany, let's just say. And we're totally against Babel now too. So please, forgive us! Find mercy in your heart!"
"They seem sincere enough," Amy noted, and Bumper all but beamed at her with tears in his eyes. "But you'll have to understand, we're still a little wary. It's gonna take time for us to accept your sincerity."
"Oh, we know, we know! We're willing to do anything to prove to you all our sincerity. I for one surely am eager too!" Bumper then replied.
"Anything you say?" Amy then said.
"I still think you guys have an ulterior motive," CR then noted.
"Maybe they heard about the gold," Benji then let slip.
To which everyone else responded with "Shhhhhhhhhh!"
Lilly specifically looked about ready to slice and dice him up for opening his mouth about it.
"Gold?" Donald then asked, looking incredibly confused.
"It's just a tall tale," Denise quickly then said. "Buried treasure in the building or so they say, but it's all totally fake."
"Well, we don't know about any buried gold, but I do know a prospector if you all need help. To show you our gratitude, I'll connect you to him, and if he does find any, you guys don't need to share with us!" Bumper then said. "Just, let us stay here with you guys, please!"
"But the gold doesn't exist, it will be a waste of time," Stacie argued and Lilly all but nodded fervently in agreement. Amy herself wasn't so sure about what the hullaballoo about the gold was but the two of them were sure acting suspicious about it.
The rest of the tenants discussed it, however, eager to prove to themselves whether or not the gold was real.
"You're on probation," Flo then said.
The three former Trebles looked incredibly relieved. Amy wasn't sure where all this talk about prospectors and gold will lead to, but looking at Bumper, she could at least guarantee that there will be colorful days ahead of them.

Summary: It wasn’t that she disliked Beca. It had more to do with the fact Beca seemed to go out of her way to grate on Chloe’s nerves and it was absolutely maddening.
Notes: written for the weekly bechloe challenge! i wanted to get rid of the writer’s block that was preventing me to keep working on my multi-chapter fic and somehow ended up with almost 4k of… this. thank you anonymous rabbit (aka @dumbacapellapotatoes) for fixing it up! hope y'all enjoy it.

Weekly Bechloe - Enemies
I've taken it in a weird place as usual.
Read on AO3 here
Word Count: 2800
This is for the weekly bechloe thing while everyone's in lockdown.
As usual I have not read over this because I got sick of it and just wanted to finish it. Please tell me about anything hugely embarrassing I've done or missed.
Again, I don't write to be serious, my writing is designed to be ridiculous because we all need that every now and again.
Enjoy or not, it's up to you!

Hey! Im kind of new to the fandom, could you possibly recommend any bechloe completed fanfics? thankyou!
Hello lovely!! Welcome to the fandom, if you're looking for a super gay time you're definitely in the right fandom 🤣🤣
I can certainly rec a few for you that are completed, there are some INSANELY talented writers in this fandom, honestly I'm forever in awe of and humbled by the talent around me 🥺 but I will say don't limit yourself to completed fics!! Yes, it is disheartening to read fics that haven't been updated in eons, but as a writer with lots of wips on the go, and knowing writers with lots of wips on the go, I know that there is very little that is as encouraging as someone reading a fic that you haven't finished yet and telling you what they think of the journey so far, it's amazing 😍🥺💖
ANYWAY, here are a few fics that I absolutely adore and are completed, I hope you enjoy them as much as I did!!!
The Monster Within by aca_bechloe47
To the outside world, Beca Mitchell was a loving big sister and the personal assistant to the CEO of Nightline Clubs Inc. Luke Matthews. But behind the scenes, the truth was far more sinister. In the dark of the night, Beca took on the alias of Titanium, the assassin. Soon the security of her secret begins to fall apart and the truth threatens to rear it's ugly head. Will Beca be able to protect her sister and her friends? Will the truth of what happened to her parents cause Beca's world to fall apart even further? Will the officers Beale and Posen have the bust of their careers, or will they find themselves in danger of The Assassins Guild of Atlanta?
(I literally recommend this fic to EVERYONE skljgdlfg it's my favourite bechloe fic of all time, I re-read it all the time, I forgot what their tumblr url is which is TRAGIC but yes, read this!!)
Home Is A Person by @massivedrickhead
Beca has been in the foster care system since she was a baby, and she’s never had anywhere she could call home.
She arrives at the Beale’s home just hoping for a safe place to stay until she turns 18.
For Chloe’s part, she had never gotten behind her parents’ need to foster kids. And despite outward appearances, she hadn’t felt at home here since she was a kid.
(Hands down one of the best bechloe fics in existence I cannot with this fic it owns my heartttt 🥺 also just read anything and everything that massivedrickhead puts out, seriously it's all incredible)
pieces by @suituuup
Five years ago, Chloe dropped off the face of the Earth. Beca didn't expect to see her again dancing in a strip club, out of all places.
(HOLY FUCK I swear to god I still think about this fic weekly, it's so fucking good and the EMOTIONS and the ROLLERCOASTER omgggggg 😩😍 again, read anything and everything by suituuup because she's not only a lovely person but an incredible writer too)
barriers by swanqueenfic13
So this is a little fic I've been working on in which Beca meets Chloe at an LA Pride parade, but fate keeps bringing them back together. In the face of a tragedy, Beca has to learn to let down her walls and rely on others. (IDK I'm bad at summaries just give it a chance)
(Oh the feels in this fic, god we love to see them being a safe place for the other it makes me so freaking soft man 🥺🥺🥺 be wary of the content warnings for this one though!!!)
Sing To Me Instead by @pocketdragon
A series of Bechloe one shots and short-form stories inspired by the tracklist from Ben Platt's 'Sing to me Instead' album.
(Okay yes, this is a serious of fics but hear me out kldjklfdjgdf they are all AMAZING, the variety of emotions I go through reading this series I cannot deal, and honestly if you haven't listened to either of Ben Platt's albums go do it, I promise you will not regret it kldfjglkdf)
Paint Your Colours Over Mine by @snowydot
Chloe is used to the colors, and she knows they will never leave. It hadn’t occurred to her that, for Beca, they weren’t really there.
(No okay, you want softness??? Go read this, it makes me very emotional and I melt every goddamn time, Ginny is not only the sweetest person but such a talented writer, you really should read this fic)
i get a feeling, looking you in the eye by @chloebeale
The USO tour came at the right time for Beca, right after quitting her job and needing a distraction. But what about a distraction from her best friend? Who just happens to be sitting by the pool in the middle of the night when Beca is struggling to sleep...
(my beloved E rated Ellie has MANY fics you should read, hell just read them all, seriously I'm so lucky to be her best friend, I am a better person and writer just from being around her. I could have picked so many of her fics to recommend to you, but I picked this one because (a) it's so freaking good, and (b) it is the birthplace of Beca Pigchill and I will adore it forever for that kdfjglkdfjd)
Happy reading anon!!! 😍🥰💖

what made you decide to start writing PP stories ?
i’ve been contemplating my answer for hours now bc honestly this could turn into such a long story
the pretty short answer is: i’d been reading fics on and off for many many years across so many fandoms, and back in 2018 i was thinking over many things abt myself while also going through quite a major depressive episode and basically contemplating my whole life sfghjkfgh
so then fast forward to the beginning of 2020. at that time i was also getting back into pp and diving into some fics, which literally helped me realise my sexuality fully. on one of the fics the author was like, come find me on tumblr! so i was like screw it, let’s make a tumblr
that’s how i got into the fandom, how i started interacting with some wonderful writers and amazing people. a couple of months later there was that bechloe event called “weekly bechloe”. four prompts across four weeks, one prompt per week. and bc i’ve loved and done writing my entire life i was like, i could write something for this
so i wrote the first chapter of my first ever fic (it was supposed to be an one shot at the time) and i talked myself into posting it. that was the first ever complete thing i wrote. this fandom gave me so much right out of the gate, so i was finally free enough and motivated enough to write and express myself and compete a story (ofc then that fic kept on going but that’s a different matter sdfghjk) and then it kept me motivated enough to turn my life around some, and also complete a book i was writing at the time
so what my answer actually is, i suppose, it’s that i never “decided” anything. this fandom, the characters and the real people i met through it, gave me the push and freedom to be me. the rest was just a blessing

I’m in the corner, watching you kiss her (1/1)
Rating: Teen and Up Audiences
Pairing: Bechloe
Words: 6.6K
Summary: Beca is quietly in love with her best friend/roommate. They go out for drinks after a long week of work. What could possibly go wrong?
Notes: Title from and fic inspired by Calum Scott's cover of Dancing On My Own. Set in the 'PP3 doesn't exist but bechloe still live together in the Brooklyn apartment' universe. I apologize if it's a little rusty, this is my first fic in years.
Read on AO3!
Or...
Beca lets out an exaggerated sigh as she kicks the door shut with her foot, immediately dropping her bag close by and flopping down onto the poorly made fold out couch that her and Chloe share in the small Brooklyn apartment.
Thank god it’s Friday, she thinks when pulling her phone out of the back pocket of her skinny jeans and rolling herself onto her back. 4:45 pm. Chloe will be home in half an hour, depending on how quickly she gets out of work to manage to catch the 5:05 train. Not that Beca memorized Chloe’s schedule and always waits for the older girl to arrive home... Not at all.
She sits herself up with another slightly dramatic sigh. She shouldn’t be this exhausted from work, mentally and physically. She enjoys her job, most of the time. She should be happy that she’s living her dream, producing music and doing what she loves while also getting paid. But, the number of imbeciles she has to deal with on a weekly basis often makes her wonder why she ever wanted to do this in the first place.
All she really looks forward after a long day of work is coming home to her best friend every night and cuddling up on their bed with snacks and her laptop, to watch whatever tv show or movie Chloe decided they have to see. Yeah, Chloe may have broken down a couple of Beca’s walls with her overly affectionate personality, she was also really hard to say no to. Especially since Beca has had feelings for the other girl for as long as she can remember, though she refused to admit it to herself for a while. It is easier to deal with now, the whole pining over your best friend/roommate wasn’t the hardest thing ever. She would never risk her friendship with Chloe because of some silly feelings, feelings that may have slowly turned into realizing she was in love with her. Who wouldn’t be totally head over heels for that girl? If her looks aren’t already enough; bright, gorgeous, bluer than the sky eyes that are full of hope and happiness, her smile that never fails to make Beca’s heart beat a little faster every time and let’s not even get started on her adorable giggle. It’s her gentle, dorky and bubbly personality that could light up a dark room. Her determination and passion, her love for the Bellas, her ability to see and appreciate the good in even the smallest things in life.
There are too many reasons to count why Chloe Beale is one of the most genuine and beautiful people Beca has ever had the pleasure of knowing… Actually, she is the most genuine and beautiful person Beca has ever known.
So, aside from the underlying feelings for her best friend that she neatly hides under a rug, Beca loves living with her. She is tidy, she gives Beca space to go into her anti-social bubble whenever needed, she makes her coffee every morning because Beca still hasn’t figured out how to use the stupid coffee machine even after having it for over a year. The two both genuinely enjoy each other’s company; they go grocery shopping together, they occasionally go out to lunch or dinner on weekends together when they aren’t extremely broke from paying monthly rent, they listen to music and dance stupidly around the tiny apartment. They work really well as a team.
Usually, Beca forgets Amy also lives there too. She’s never really around that much anyway and when she is, it is just to grab a few things, make sly comments here and there about how married Beca and Chloe act before heading off again. Often but not always, coming home in the early hours of the morning– from her weekly boy toy’s house, or from the nightclub.
Beca eventually sits up from her position of laying defeated on the bed and shuffles back to lean against the pillows, resting her phone in her lap. Starting to scroll through the Netflix app to see if anything sparks her eye to suggest to Chloe that they watch for the night, although nothing ever really does and the older of the two always ends up picking something.
She’s only halfway through the ‘Popular on Netflix’ section when the door flings open and Chloe bounces through. “Hey!” she says with a cheerful grin, walking to place her handbag down on the coffee table. “How was your day?” she asks, turning to face the smaller girl after removing her jacket and hanging it up on the back of the door.
“Exhausting,” Beca groans, dropping her phone to lay beside her, “very glad it’s Friday,” running a hand through her hair lazily and continuing, “what about you? Save some more innocent little creatures to live another eventful day in the city of Brooklyn?” she says with a slight smirk.
Chloe lets out a soft giggle as she kicks off her shoes, sitting down on the edge of the bed, “Not today, but I did get to meet this really cute puppy who needed his first vaccinations,” she beams with sparking eyes and a smile before shrugging lightly, “so, I’d say it was a pretty good day.”
“Ah-ha, nothing like a tiny puppy to end the week off,” Beca says with a soft laugh, “wish I had your job sometimes, but then I remember the story of the cow and that thought goes away pretty quickly...”
“Don’t remind me!” Chloe scrunches her nose, shaking her head with another giggle. “Why don’t we do something tonight, you know, to get your mind off of work,” she tilts her head towards the brunette with an empathetic smile.
Beca raises an eyebrow curiously, “Depends on what you have in mind… I was pretty ready to just lay here for the rest of the night and do absolutely nothing.” – And maybe, cuddle just a little… she thinks to herself, refraining from saying it a loud. Chloe doesn’t have to know how much Beca actually does enjoy their cozy cuddling and patiently waits almost every night for the other girl to climb into the bed after her shower, smelling purely of strawberries & cream from her shampoo.
“I mean, that is always fun, and I did find another interesting tv show for us to watch… But, why don’t we go out for some drinks?” Chloe shrugs a shoulder, “Let off some steam, dance it out… Get those delicious, unhealthy but awes burritos afterwards from that place you love down the street…” her lips turning into a small smirk.
Beca hums softly, “I do love those burritos,” pausing for a moment, chewing her bottom lip as she thought about the proposition, “but I don’t know about having to deal with more dicks than I already do at work… With them also being drunk and wild, doesn’t sound like the best way I want to spend my Friday night.”
Chloe pursed her lips with a small understanding nod. “Oh!” –she spins on the bed excitedly to properly face Beca, crossing her legs with a small bounce– “we could go to that groovy place Amy took us once, with the neon signs and yummy cocktails! It’s never usually that busy, that’s why Amy didn’t want to stay there long… Plus, it has that local DJ that you like playing there on Friday nights,” she says with a grin.
“Damn. Cocktails, decent music and burritos… You really make it hard to say no, don’t you?” Beca smirks, watching Chloe doing an adorable little dance, making the bed shake lightly. “Alright, alright. Fine. I guess it wouldn’t be terrible… I do feel like a drink, maybe 10…”
“Yay! Don’t worry, it will be aca-awesome!” teasingly emphasizing on the last word because she knows how much Beca hate the phrases that Chloe and Aubrey still haven’t let die. “I’m gonna have a quick shower and get ready then,” the older girl leaps up from the bed to head towards the shower, stripping her scrubs off on her way and chucking it into the laundry basket close by. Something that had become a reoccurring thing for Chloe to do, she’s seen the confident redhead in underwear or wrapped in a towel more times than she can count.
Beca narrows her eyes, focus gazing down Chloe’s toned back before shaking her head and looking away, glancing down at herself to see if what she is currently wearing is nightclub appropriate. Probably not. She slowly shuffles off the bed to look through her rack of clothes hanging nearby. A different pair of black ripped skinny jeans and a slightly nicer top to match her leather jacket is what she decides on.
Roughly an hour after Chloe gets out of the shower, she’s finally putting on her heels to match her little dark green dress and walking to the mirror to put in her gold hoop earrings. Ruffling long red hair to fall in waves down her shoulders.
Beca raises an eyebrow from where she sits at the coffee table, putting her phone into her jacket pocket. She managed to get changed, freshen up her makeup, pour herself a drink of whiskey & cola and catch up on the rest of her work emails while Chloe was still getting ready. She admires the other girl’s outfit from afar, slowly trailing her eyes over her body and down her tone legs. She does love Chloe in green, it makes her eyes glow even more, if that was even possible, and goes so well with her bright, radiant hair. She sips the last of her drink before clearing her throat, “Finally ready to go, miss?”
Chloe spins around with an enthusiastic nod, “Yep!”, walking over to grab one of her small purses and putting her phone into it. “How do I look?”, she cocks her head to the side with a confident smile.
“Chlo, you know you look great,” Beca says as she stands from her seat, “I like that dress… It’s nice,” she smiles softly, finding it extremely difficult to take her eyes away from the bright ones staring back at her.
“Thanks, Bec,” Chloe’s cheeks blush lightly as she looked down at herself and then back up, “you look great, too… Always.”
Beca shrugs a shoulder, moving to place her empty cup in the sink to break the longing stare happening between them. Chloe really wasn’t shy when it came to eye contact. “I guess we clean up nice,” she says with a smirk as they move towards the front door.
 _____________________
Chloe was right, the club really isn’t that packed, and it’s big enough that even with a few more people, it is still tolerable for Beca. They find a booth to sit in which isn’t far from the bar, so they’re taking it in turns getting the rounds of cocktails, so they don’t lose their seat. The music isn’t too bad either, Beca has a habit of over analyzing others remix choices but, this DJ is pretty good so she can’t complain.
“See, told you this place would be cool!” Chloe nudges the smaller girl’s shoulder as she holds her straw between her fingers, taking a sip from her pineapple and passionfruit cocktail.
Beca’s lips curl into a smile as she glances over to Chloe, “You’re just waiting for me to say it was a good idea, aren’t you?” she says with a soft laugh, “it is pretty cool, though,” she finishes with a shrug. “This cocktail is amazing, too. It doesn’t even taste like alcohol at all“–she stops to take a small sip– “Very deceiving, slightly dangerous. I know there is at least two shots of tequila in it ‘cause I watched him making it.”
Chloe giggles as she shuffles slightly closer into the smaller girls side, “Let me try, I might get that one next,” she reaches over, taking a small sip and then glancing at Beca with wide eyes, “Oh, wow, yeah that is really nice… Try mine! It tastes like sunshine in a glass,” tilting her cocktail towards Beca.
“You are like sunshine in a glass,” Beca says with a soft laugh before taking a sip, nodding her head slowly as she narrowed her eyes, “Mhm, yeah. That’s good shit.”
“You’re good shit,” Chloe replies with another giggle, nudging against Beca’s shoulder again and settling her glass down on the table. “Now… It’s time to dance it out,” she whispers close to the other girl’s ear and then standing up, holding her hand out. Sending shivers up Beca’s spine from the quick closeness.
Beca freezes halfway through sipping her drink, “Oh, no, no. I’m still about two drinks away from that, Beale,” she says with a shake of her head. Mentally trying not to break as Chloe’s lips turn into a small pout.
“C’mon, Bec! I know you can dance! You’ve done it on stage in front of thousands of people,” Chloe argues, emphasizing her pout with a furrow of her brow.
“That’s… Very different. Choreography and lots of practice,” she scoffs back with a laugh. “You go. I’ll watch your drink and keep our super cool, comfy booth company,” Beca grins as her lips try to find her straw again without breaking eye contact with the pouty redhead in front of her.
Chloe lets out a soft huff and softens her expression, “Fine… But you better get your butt off that couch soon. This is just as bad as getting you out of bed in the mornings. Get yourself another drink!”
Beca rolls her eyes and nods, watching Chloe bounce off to the slightly crowded dance floor in front of them and letting her shoulders drop slightly as she leans back, looking down to see how much of her drink was left– only halfway and tequila really did hit her pretty hard. Maybe she only needed one more before she was ready to dance. Again, Chloe is extremely hard to say no to. Plus, she really does want to dance with her best friend, although Chloe’s innocent flirty behavior only gets worse when she has alcohol in her system and Beca finds it harder to deal with every time they drink together. She always has to monitor her own drinking, just in case she did something stupid like accidentally tell Chloe she is hopelessly, pathetically, in love with her.
She looks around her surroundings, the people in here aren’t actually too bad, compared to some of the places Amy has forced the two of them to go to in the past. There are hipsters, other people around their age who seem to be doing the same as them by enjoying the cocktails and some younger girls that appear to just be there to take photos with the neon signs to upload to Instagram.
Beca eventually settles her eyes back on Chloe, a small smile appearing on her face at how freely the redhead is dancing, she really does look majestic and gorgeous without even trying. Her hair flowing down her back as her body moves with the beat of the song, hips shaking from side to side and a drunken smile on her face as she turns to look over to the booth, winking at Beca after noticing that she’s already staring.
Beca gives a shy smile back and recoils slowly further back into the seat, glancing down into her glass as she plays with the ice using her straw. She looks back up about a minute later to see a, frankly, stunning brunette girl dancing near Chloe, seeming to get closer as the song continues. The stranger finally makes her way in front of Chloe, who gives her a friendly smile as she starts to dance with her, the two moving together to the beat. The other girl puts her hands onto Chloe’s hips, whispering something close to her ear. Beca swallows thickly and tries to look anywhere but at them, taking a slightly large gulp out of her drink as she tries to ignore the slight jealousy building up in her slowly.
When she finally glances back at them, it’s just in time to see the brunette moving one of her hands to Chloe’s cheek and leaning in, starting to kiss her and… Chloe actually kisses back. Beca feels her stomach drop like she just went down a giant hill on a rollercoaster. Surely Chloe isn’t that drunk, she’s only about one or two drinks in front of Beca and even drunk, Beca has never witnessed her kiss another girl. Sure, she might have said to her a couple of years ago that she wished she experimented more in College… But she never actually brought it back up again after that, nor did she get anybody else to take her up on the proposal, she definitely would have told her. Beca thought about it a lot after it happened and mentally punched herself a couple of times for not taking Chloe up on the offer or at least exploring what she actually meant by it. Once she actually wanted to confront Chloe, after her and Jesse had broken up, she told herself it had been too long, and it would just be weird to randomly ask about it.
Beca furrows her brow as she glances away with a confused expression, instantly gulping down the rest of her drink and wincing slightly at the burn of tequila at the bottom of the glass. She tries to stop her eyes from glancing back at them but struggles and gives in, immediately regretting it when she sees them still kissing, more so, full on making out now. She puts her drink down on the table and rubs her sweaty palms over her jeans as she stares down into her lap. The feeling in her gut makes her feel sick and she can feel her chest tightening up like she was about to have a panic attack. Stop being stupid, Mitchell. She’s not even yours, she thinks to herself, but it doesn’t stop the lump forming in her throat. She had to get some air. Right now.
She squints, glancing around while trying to avoid the two that she can still obviously see right in front of her and stands up quickly, immediately heading for the exit door, taking a deep breath in once the fresh air hits her. There’s a brick wall to her left that she immediately moves to lean against, closing her eyes as she tries to swallow back the stupid lump in her throat. Her hands patting her jacket pockets anxiously, letting out a small sigh of relief as she retrieves the cigarette packet and lighter– a terrible habit Beca has when she gets too stressed. She lights one up and leans her head back against the wall to look up at the sky.
She has witnessed Chloe kissing other people before, and though it hurts a little every time, it shouldn’t hurt this much. But watching her kiss another girl rattles something inside of Beca that she can’t control. There are a few reasons behind not telling Chloe how she truly feels, aside from potentially ruining their friendship, she’s pretty certain the redhead is completely straight, and her own insecurities convince her that Chloe would never like her in that way.
Taking a drag from the cigarette with shaky hands, she closes her eyes to try and focus on her breathing. She really should have just stayed at home.
“Bec?” Chloe slightly yells as she comes out of the exit door while looking around, making Beca jump lightly, straightening herself up to not look so miserable against the wall.
Chloe furrows her brow and scrunches her nose as her eyes fall on Beca and the cigarette between her fingers, “What are you doing?”
Beca glances into Chloe’s direction, “Just–” she clears her throat “–getting some fresh air…” She purses her lips and resists the urge to take another drag of the cigarette in front of Chloe after she notices how her red hair is slightly messier and her cheeks are flushed.
“Well, don’t you think you’re ruining getting fresh air by putting that in your lungs?” Chloe questions as she tilts her head slightly. “Come back inside, we’re going lose our seat,” she steps closer.
Beca can see how Chloe’s lipstick is slightly smudged once she gets closer. “Um, I… actually… think I’m going to head home,” Beca replies with a soft shake of her head, avoiding looking into Chloe’s direction, “That tequila kind of gave me a headache and I’m pretty tired.”
Chloe’s face drops and her brow furrows again, “Oh…” She perks her head back up, lip quirking into a small smile, “Well, I’ll come with you then, we can get you some water and–”
“No, it’s okay,” Beca interrupts, “you looked like you were having fun in there so, I’ll just see you at home,” she forces a half smile, a pretty poor attempted one and turns, walking away in the direction that she thinks the apartment is in, before Chloe can speak again.
 ______________________
Beca gets back to the apartment in about double the time it took her and Chloe to walk there, she definitely did not go the right way. She shuts the door with a little too much force, making half the coats hanging on the back fall to the ground, giving them a glare and deciding she really doesn’t have the energy to pick them up right now. She glances around the small apartment, making sure Amy isn’t there. No surprise, she isn’t.
She sits on the end of the bed, a dramatic and shaky sigh leaving her lips, feeling even more exhausted than what she did when she arrived home from work. The apartment feels even more empty and quiet than usual, making that dreaded lump in her throat come back. She isn’t even sure where she is looking, somewhere on the ground, but her eyes begin to blur as a few tears stray from her eyes to roll down her cheeks. Shaking her head with a groan, she wipes them away quickly and puffs out a breath. This is stupid, you are stupid, she thinks as she stands up, unsteadily shuffling off her jacket.
Her eyes spot the bottle of whiskey she used earlier on the table, pressing her lips together and clenching her jaw slightly, she walks over to it and removes the lid, taking a long swig then instantly closing her eyes tightly as it burns down her throat. She makes a slow move back to the bed, slipping her phone out of her jeans with bottle still in the other and settles down against the pillows.
Her mind wanders to what Chloe is doing right now, if she just walked back into the club without second guessing Beca’s behavior. What she might be doing with that girl right now. She’s probably still having fun. She can’t be mad at Chloe for any of it, she isn’t mad, it’s not her place, but it still is really hard for it not to hurt. She should have seen this coming, Chloe being with someone else, she should have prepared herself. Chloe is beautiful, she is bound to kiss or even get into a relationship eventually. Beca just didn’t properly prepare herself, like most things in her life.
She doesn’t know how long she’s been sitting there, mind preoccupied by thoughts. She opens her phone, having to blink a few times to focus her eyes down on it. No notifications. She’s not surprised. Actually, she’s a little surprised. Chloe is the type to text if Beca got home safe, if she’s feeling better, if she’s sure she doesn’t want her to come back. Obviously, she was still having fun without her. Beca doesn’t care. She shouldn’t care.
She throws it to the side and lifts her knees to drape her arms over them, hanging the bottle between them. The keys rattling in the door shakes her out of her thoughts, looking up with a slight frown as the door opens.
Chloe walks in cautiously, holding a large paper bag in one hand. “Hey, you,” she says as she closes the door behind her, brow furrowing at the pile of coats near her feet and stepping over them before glancing up at Beca and then the bottle between her legs, “I thought you had a headache,” she settles the paper bag and her purse onto the coffee table.
Beca chews on her bottom lip for a moment before responding, “Uh, yeah… I– I did…”, she glances around, unsure of what to say because she is terrible at lying, especially to Chloe. Clearing her throat, moving to settle the bottle down on the small bedside table carefully and crossing her legs in front of her.
Chloe cocks her head to the side as she stares at Beca for a moment, “Okay, well, I got you this–” she pulls bottled water out of the bag, settling it on the table “–I know you don’t overly enjoy the tap water we have here,” her lip curving into a small smile before continuing, “I also got you this,“ pulling a wrapped burrito out of the bag.
Beca smiles slightly, “Thanks, Chlo…”, she says in a soft tone, “I was going to get one… But I think I took the wrong way back.”
Chloe pulls her own burrito out of the bag, struggling to balance both of them in her hands and pick the water back up at the same time but manages, walking over to the bed to sit down on the corner, dropping the items down, “I was going to tell you that, but you walked away too quickly for me to get a word out,” she blinks up at Beca, pushing the items closer to her.
“Sorry,” is all Beca manages to get out as her eyes follow the other girl’s hand, glancing back up to find those ocean blue eyes still staring back at her.
“Are you okay, Becs?” Chloe says with sympathetic eyes, shuffling further up the bed to get closer to her.
Beca distracts herself by fiddling with the wrapping of the burrito in front of her, shrugging a shoulder lightly as she thinks about her response, “Yeah… Like I said, just tired.”
Chloe lets a soft sigh fall from her lips as she studies Beca’s face, “You know, you can talk to me, right? I thought we were past this whole walls-built stories high Beca thing… “
“I said I’m okay, Chloe. Just– Just drop it,” she runs her palms over her jean covered thighs, suddenly realizing how sweaty they are again, “please,” she adds on.
Chloe blinks slowly as her mouth gaps open a little before pursing her lips together with a frown, staying quiet for a long moment before changing her mind, “Actually, no. Beca, I want to know what happened. It’s pretty clear you’re not okay. We were having a good time… Is it about that girl who started dancing with me because–”
“No! I don’t care, honestly,” Beca laughs dryly, “I am totally fine, I just wanted to go home. I’m glad you were having fun… Tongue down her throat kind of fun.”
“What is that supposed to mean?” Chloe frown grows further with a wrinkled nose, “Are you jealous or something? I could have easily got her to come over to you instead.”
Beca lets out another dry laugh, “That’s not what I wanted,” she shakes her head, slowly lifting her gaze from the bed to meet confused eyes.
“Okay, then what do you want?” Chloe replies in lower tone as she looks over Beca’s face with those soft, glowing eyes that momentarily drop down to her lips before making their way back up.
Moments like this; she thinks, maybe, just maybe, Chloe has feelings back. That Chloe wants it all just as much. “I want,” Beca trails off, chewing the inside of her cheek, “to eat my burrito, I’m starving,” breaking the eye contact that was making the beat of her heart ten times quicker every second it continued. Idiot. Just tell her. Tell her how you feel.
Chloe expression flattens into defeat as she sighs quietly with a small nod, standing up from the bed to grab an old t-shirt and sleep shorts out of the draw, changing out of her dress close by.
Beca distracts herself from glancing up at the redhead by unwrapping the burrito, taking a few small bites as she fights back and forth with her mind. She really wasn’t that hungry. Why did Chloe react like she was expecting, even hoping, for Beca to say something different? Did she really just miss her chance to say ‘I want you. Please want me the same way I want you.’  There are a thousand things going through her head as she sits quietly on the bed with her eyes fixated on the food in front of her.
“I hope I got your order right; I’ve memorized it pretty good,” Chloe mumbles as she moves to settle down on the other side of the bed to lean back against her pillow, fiddling with her fingers in her lap. Her own food forgotten about at the end of the bed.
“It’s good, exactly how I like it. Thanks, Chlo,” she says with her mouth half full, sending a small smile into Chloe’s direction, which instantly disappears when she notices how sad she looks. It’s like looking at a hurt puppy and makes that sudden drop in Beca’s stomach come back. She swallows her final chew and leans to settle the half-eaten burrito down on to the bedside table next to the bottle of whiskey. Gross combination, Mitchell. She turns back to shuffle to lay on her side facing Chloe, propping herself up with one elbow, “Hey, I’m sorry… I know I kind of ruined our night and all.”
Chloe shakes her head faintly, “You didn’t, it’s okay,” turning her head to meet Beca’s gaze, her lips curving into a soft smile, “I’d much rather be here with you than anywhere else,” she says in a soft tone as she shuffles herself down to mirror Beca’s position and face her.
Beca really hopes the dim, pathetic lights in their apartment hides the blush she can feel creeping up her cheeks. “You really are my favorite person, Chloe,” she says in an equally as soft tone, her eyes wandering over Chloe’s soft features, watching the way her smile brightens after Beca’s words which makes her eyes crinkle and her eyelashes flutter through slow blinks.
“You’re my favorite person, too,” Chloe replies, moving her free hand that isn’t being used to support herself to gently brush a strand of hair away and behind Beca’s ear. Sparkling, blue eyes following her own movement before trailing back to land on Beca’s lips again, and then slowly returning to her eyes.
Beca knows she didn’t imagine that one, that lingering stare definitely lasted longer that time. She closes her eyes for a moment to bask in the feeling of Chloe’s fingers lightly trailing down her ear and jaw, skimming down the side of her neck, sending a small shiver down her spine that she really hopes wasn’t that noticeable. She opens her eyes back up slowly to meet the soft ones staring back at her. Her lips part like she’s ready to say something but closing them again after realizing she has no words for what is happening right now, and she definitely didn’t want to disturb or stop whatever was. Her heart is beating like it was about to jump out of her chest.
Chloe’s tongue flicks out to lick over her own lips and Beca’s eyes dares to skim down. She could feel Chloe inching closer ever so slowly, she could smell her fragrance–still that hint of strawberries & cream, mixed with the floral scented perfume she uses every day– Beca feels intoxicated and not at all by the alcohol she had consumed tonight.
Chloe’s fingers gently continue to trail down Beca’s neck before returning their journey back up to behind her ear and rest her hand against her cheek to cup it softly. She’s moving so slowly like she is worried she is going to scare Beca away, searching her face for any evidence this isn’t okay before finally closing that last bit of distance between them, lips barely brushing against each other.
As soon as she feels Chloe’s lips brush hers, Beca takes a light shaky breath in and leans further into the lips against her own. Was this really happening? Was there something unusual in that tequila cocktail that could possibly be making her hallucinate this? And then her mind stops working, drowning out to nothing but how soft Chloe’s lips are and how her knees feel weak even though she was lying down. She presses her lips further and tilts her head slightly as Chloe adds the same amount of pressure, kissing her back gently.
Beca’s free hand trails up from where it was awkwardly laying between them to rest on Chloe’s rib cage and pull her closer as she feels Chloe’s thumb rubbing softly against her cheek, eagerly pulling her further into the kiss.
The gradation of it all is innocent at first, their lips moving with each other’s like they are made for one another, shaky tiny breaths exhaled in between. But then Chloe’s tongue traces slowly out to meet Beca’s parting lips, Beca feels like she is melting into the bed as her tongue meets Chloe’s and her hand trails from Chloe’s rib cage around to her back, pulling her impossibly closer as their bodies press against one another.
Chloe is the first to pull back slightly after what seems like too long but also not long enough, to let out a much-needed breath. She leans in to press another soft kiss to Beca’s lips before fluttering her eyes open just at the same time as the darker blue ones, her lips curving into a smile, “I’ve wanted to do that for a really long time,” she whispers.
Beca just blinks back at the clear ocean eyes staring back into her own for a moment, “You have?” she eventually whispers back, the hand she has laying on Chloe’s back mindlessly starts trailing to hold onto her side again, like she’s scared she is about to suddenly disappear and she’ll wake up from a dream.
Chloe just nods, the smile on her lips brightening.
Beca sighs, slightly in relief and slightly trying to calm herself, she can still feel her heart beating way faster than it normally does. She surges forward to meet Chloe’s lips again, feeling Chloe’s hand moving from her cheek around to the back of her neck and instantly deepening the kiss again. One of Chloe’s thighs makes their way in between Beca’s jean covered thighs as they pull each other closer, and closer. This makes the arm Beca was propping herself up on instantly give out.
A soft giggle leaves Chloe’s lips after it happens before meeting her tongue again, she moves to slowly roll them over, so Chloe is lying on top of Beca, thigh still settled comfortably between her legs and the hand around Beca’s neck moving to tangle into brunette hair.
Beca takes a shaky breath in as she relaxes onto her back, one of her own thighs finds its way between Chloe’s and she swears she hears the other girl let out a quiet moan. Her hands trailing to rest on Chloe’s hips as their tongues dance around together passionately, Beca can’t control herself from arching her hips up ever so slightly.
Chloe meets her hips with a gentle roll down of her own, eventually tearing her lips away from Beca’s to start pressing soft kisses down her jaw line and across the side of her neck.
Beca tilts her head back to accompany the soft lips trailing across her neck, keeping her eyes pressed closed as she breathes heavily before– “Wait…” she whimpers out.
Chloe immediately stops and lifts her head up to meet Beca’s gaze with a slightly confused look, searching her eyes for uncertainty, “Are you okay?”
“Yeah, I just–“ she swallows thickly, realizing how dry her throat has become “–Can we just–“ she stutters out, looking into the pair of eyes that stare back at her so protectively and lovingly “–I don’t want this to just be some drunken make out or just sex… I really, really, like you, Chloe,” Beca says the last part a little quieter.
Finally. Beca feels a weight lifting off her shoulders as the words she’s been holding in for years finally leave her lips. Although she’s definitely holding herself back from saying I love you, just in case Chloe doesn’t feel the same. The possibility of losing her best friend is too much to think about right now.
Chloe’s expression softens as she pulls back to be able to properly look at Beca, the hand in her hair trailing back to cup her cheek and caressing again with her thumb, fingers moving lazily against the soft part of her neck right under her jaw, “I really, really, like you, Beca. I have since the moment I met you,” she says with an adorable smile spreading across her face.
Beca breathes out another sigh of relief, “Okay, cool,” her lips curving into a smile that’s probably a little too satisfied, “good to know.”
Beca still couldn’t believe this was really happening. Did she really hold and suppress all her feelings for so long without knowing Chloe has felt the exact same? Was she that oblivious that Chloe liked her back? Clearly.
“Yeah,” Chloe leans back down to press a gentle kiss to Beca’s lips, “good to know,” she murmurs against them, kissing soft lips a few more times before moving to kiss her cheek, shuffling to lay beside Beca again, “We’ve had a long night. Why don’t we cuddle and go to sleep, hm? Then I can show you just how much this definitely isn’t some drunken make out in the morning,” she hums, dancing her fingers down Beca’s neck, collarbone and shoulder blade.
Beca nods softly, the smile plastered on her face not leaving any time soon, “I’d like that,” she turns to steal another gentle kiss from Chloe before shuffling herself out of the bed. She struggles her skinny jeans and top off, finding a band t-shirt already on the floor to slip on before picking up the burrito from her bedside table and Chloe’s from the end of the bed, “I’m going to put these bad boys in the fridge for breakfast,” she smirks and walks them over to the fridge.
Chloe rearranges the blanket from underneath her so she can slip in and giggles, “Gross. But I like your thinking,” she winks and opens the blanket up as Beca turns off the lights and makes her way back over to the bed.
Beca settles back in with a content sigh. “Just one more…” she leans in to press a gentle kiss to Chloe’s lips, feeling the redhead smiling against her lips as she kisses back. It’s not hard to map out where her face is because of their shitty blinds that don’t block out the streetlights or the morning sun.
Chloe shuffles them down as she wraps her arms around Beca’s small frame as Beca reluctantly turns around after a few more soft kisses, pressing her back into Chloe’s front. “Hey, Becs,” she whispers, pulling Beca closer as she nuzzles her face into her shoulder.
“Mhm?” Beca hums out, already content enough to fall asleep quickly as one of Chloe’s hand finds her own.
There was a long pause before Chloe speaks again, “I actually really, really, love you.”
“I really, really, love you, too.”
   The end.

2020 BeChloe (Mini)Fic Month - Chapter 3
AFTERLIFE
The Afterlife (also referred to as life after death) is the belief that the essential part of an individual's identity or the stream of consciousness continues after the death of the physical body.
Warning: Due to the nature of the prompt, there will be a character's death in this Chapter. Don't hate me.
{This picks up from Week 2's prompt "Quarantine."}
The BAs were having a full rehearsal one week before the State Acapella Championship when they were interrupted by Beca's dad.
"Dad?" Beca said upon seeing him enter the Auditorium. "What are you doing here?"
"Beca, may I speak with you for a moment?"
Beca nodded and turned to the group.
"Great job today, everyone," Beca said. "I'm calling it. Get out of here and have a great weekend."
The girls started gathering their belongings, and Beca walked over to her dad. Chloe stood watching because something seemed off with Mr. Mitchell.
"Dad, are you okay?" Beca asked, seeing her father's red-rimmed eyes. "Did something happen?"
"There's no easy way to say this," Warren said. "Beca, your grandmother passed away in her sleep last night."
"Grandma Mitchell?" Beca choked out. Warren nodded his head and wiped a tear from his cheek.
Chloe jumped when she heard a heart-wrenching sob echo around the Auditorium. Her head jerked toward the sound in time to see Beca collapse into her father's arms. Chloe put a hand to her mouth as she watched Beca sob against her father's chest. If Beca was crying, something bad happened, and Chloe's heart broke for Beca.
"What's going on?" Stacie asked, also watching Beca and her father.
"I don't know," Chloe said with tears in her eyes. "I'm going to go check on Beca."
Chloe slowly made her way over to the father and daughter.
"Mr. Mitchell, is everything okay?" she asked hesitantly.
"My mother passed away in her sleep last night," Warren said with a catch in his voice.
Chloe let out a gasp as tears filled her eyes. "Oh, my God, I'm so sorry."
"Thank you," Warren said as he gently pulled Beca back so he could look at her. "I'm going to take you home, okay?" Beca nodded. "We'll stop by the office and have you excused for next week since we have to fly to New York for the, uh, the fu-funeral."
Hearing the catch in his voice, Beca pulled her father toward her and hugged him tightly.
"Mr. Mitchell, if there's anything my family or I can do, please don't hesitate to ask."
"Thank you, Chloe," Warren said. "I appreciate your kind offer. I don't know what we need right now. We're still trying to wrap our heads around it."
"Beca?" Chloe said softly, causing the girl to look at her.
"Anything you need, call me, okay?" Chloe said.
Beca nodded her head and wiped the tears from her face. "Thanks," she mumbled. "Could you tell the girls?"
"Absolutely," Chloe responded immediately. She pulled Beca into a hug and whispered, "I'm really sorry about Grandma Mitchell. I'm going to miss her so much."
Beca nodded into Chloe's shoulder. "Me, too," Beca whispered as fresh tears fell.
~~ Afterlife ~~
Later that night, Beca had managed to get her emotions under control. Picking up her phone, she saw a few texts of condolences from the team, and it warmed her heart. She pulled up her text thread with Chloe and sent her a text asking the redhead to give her a call. It felt like only seconds before her phone was ringing and the caller ID popped up with Chloe's name. Beca answered.
"Hey, thanks for calling," Beca said.
"Are you okay?" Chloe asked softly.
"No," Beca responded honestly. "But, I will be."
"Is there something I can do?" Chloe asked.
"Yeah, that's why I wanted you to call," Beca said. "I won't be flying back to Barden until next Saturday."
"That's the day of the State Acapella Championships," Chloe said.
"I know," Beca said. "Everything has been taken care of to get you guys to Atlanta, and that's where I'll be flying into. Once I land, I'll meet you guys at the Conference Center. I just wanted to let you know."
"I"m glad you're going to be able to make it," Chloe said. "It wouldn't be the same without you."
"Don't worry," Beca said. "I'll be there." There was a brief moment of silence before Beca spoke again.
"Hey, Beale?"
"Yeah?"
"Don't let this go to your head, but I'm glad we're friends again."
Chloe let out a small gasp and tears came to her eyes. "We are?"
"Of course, we are," Beca responded with a light chuckle. "I don't cry in front of just anybody."
Chloe chuckled. "I'm glad we're friends again, too. So, um, I was going to hold rehearsals while you're gone. Is that okay?"
"I think we're more than ready," Beca said, smiling when she heard a somewhat frustrated sigh on the other end of the phone. "But, I trust you, and if you think more rehearsals are needed, go for it."
"Really?" Chloe squealed.
"Yes, really," Beca said. "I have to go. We have an early flight tomorrow. I'll try and call later."
"Okay," Chloe said. "Be safe and call me if you need anything. Oh, and send me the information on the funeral arrangements once you know them. We want to send flowers."
"Yes, ma'am," Beca said, ending the call.
~~ Afterlife ~~
Before turning in for the night, Beca set her alarm and sent a few thank you texts to her team. She laid on her bed, staring up at the ceiling and wiping the tears that started to fall again.
At some point, sleep took her into the world of her dreams, and her Grandmother Mitchell was the headliner.
"Beca," a voice called entering the murky depths of Beca's sleep. "Beca, wake up, sweetie." Beca's eyes fluttered as her brain caught on to the sound of the intrusion. "Beca, I need you to open your eyes." Beca opened her eyes to close them immediately. They opened again and closed just as quickly as she was not ready to wake up. "BECA!" Beca sat straight up in the bed, her heart pounding. She swallowed and looked around. Her eyes widened, and she scrabbled back until her back hit the headboard.
"Who-who are you?" Beca asked the figure standing at the foot of her bed.
"It's me, sweetie," the figure said. "Grandma."
Beca got on her hands and knees and slowly crawled closer to the figure. Suddenly, the figure transformed and was now a human form. A human form that Beca knew well. Tears came to Beca's eyes as she whispered, "Grandma?"
"Yes, sweetie, it's me," Sophie replied.
"But how can it be you? You're de-" Beca stopped and swallowed.
"Dead?" Sophie finished. "I know. I am."
"Then, how are you here?" Beca asked.
"I could feel your sadness and came to comfort you," Sophie said. "It's what we Grandmas do."
Beca let out a watery chuckle because it was something her grandmother always used to say to her.
Beca let out a small sob and looked at her grandmother with tears streaming down her face.
"I don't know how I'm going to feel when I walk into your house, and you're not there."
"Oh, my sweet baby," Sophie cooed. She spread her arms wide and said, "Come here."
Beca closed the distance between them and fell into her grandmother's arms.
Grandma Mitchell held Beca until her sobs turned into hiccoughs, and she calmed down. Beca pulled back and looked at her grandmother.
"How can you be hugging me?" Beca asked. "In the movies, when someone tries to hug a ghost, there's nothing there."
Sophie laughed, and Beca's heart warmed. Beca loved her grandmother's laugh.
"The Afterlife is quite surprising," Sophie said. "My body is no longer alive, but my stream of consciousness, or spirit as some call it, is alive. I can show myself in my true physical form so you can see and touch me."
"Thank you for coming to visit me,' Beca mumbled against her grandmother's shoulder.
"Don't worry, my sweet girl," Sophie said. "I'm always around and will visit you when I feel you need me to be there for you."
"I love you, grandma," Beca said, squeezing Sophie tighter.
"I love you, too," Sophie said.
~~ Afterlife ~~
Beca woke the next morning with a smile on her face, remembering the dream she had where her grandmother had visited her. She got up and took a quick shower before dressing and heading downstairs. Her dad and Sheila were drinking coffee when she walked into the kitchen. Her dad stood by the center island, staring down into his cup. He looked sad, so Beca walked over and hugged him.
"You okay, dad?" Beca asked as her father returned the hug.
"I am," Warren said. "We need to leave in about an hour for the airport. Are you packed?"
"Yeah, I packed last night," Beca said.
Warren opened his mouth as if to say something, but closed it when his phone rang. He let Beca go and answered the call.
"Hey, Matt," Warren said, answering the call from his brother.
Beca and Sheila could only hear Warren's side of the call.
"That all sounds good, Matt. Thanks for taking care of everything."
"Could you send that to me, Beca, and Sheila? We have folks here we need to share it with."
"Hm-mm," Warren said. "Hold on, I'll ask her."
Warren turned to Beca. "Matt wants to know if you'll pick out a dress for mom to be, um, buried in."
Beca nodded, and Warren got back on the phone. "She said she would do it."
"Got it. We'll see you at the airport in a few hours. I love you, too, Matt."
Warren ended the call and looked at his wife and daughter.
"Matt finalized the arrangements and is going to send them to all of us."
"That's good," Beca said. "I promised Chloe I'd send them to her."
"I have a few more things to pack," Sheila said as she stood. "I'd better get to it."
Sheila left Beca and Warren in the dining room.
"I had a dream about grandma last night," Beca said, causing Warren to look at her.
"It seemed real," Beca continued. "I hugged her and could smell her perfume."
"Jean Naté," Warren said with a chuckle. "Matt and I used to get her a bottle for every birthday and Mother's Day."
"It is her signature scent," Beca said with a soft smile.
~~ Afterlife ~~
"Uncle Matt!" Beca called out as soon as she saw the man.
Matt hurried over and grabbed his brother, Warren, in a hug. The two men stood unashamed as they held onto each other in the middle of JFK Airport. Matt pulled back from the embrace, sniffling, and wiping his nose.
"You okay, Matt?" Warren asked. "I'm sorry you had to handle everything on your own."
"Don't be," Matt said. "You know how mom is, was. She had everything planned out down to the music and flowers.
Warren chuckled. "That sounds about right."
"Come on, let's get your luggage and get you to the house," Matt said. "Before I forget, we have an appointment with her lawyer on Wednesday for the reading of the will."
"That's good," Warren said.
"How are your kids holding up?" Sheila asked Matt.
"They're doing okay," Matt responded. "I don't think they're really old enough to understand." He turned to Beca. "How are you doing, sprout?"
"I'm good," Beca said. "It won't hit me until we get to grandma's house, and she's not there."
The three older adults became quiet as they nodded, having the same feeling.
~~ Afterlife ~~
The ride to Sophie's house was quiet. Warren, Matt, and Sheila exited the car while Beca remained in her seat.
"Are you planning on sitting out here all day?" Sophie's voice startled Beca.
"Jesus!" Beca blurted out.
"Nope," Sophie said. "Just grandma is fine."
"You're scared the daylights out of me," Beca said, looking to her left to see her grandmother sitting there.
"I'm sorry," Sophie said. "Maybe I can wear a bell around my neck, so you know I'm here."
"Are you planning on popping in on me on the regular?" Beca asked.
"Maybe," Sophie said, causing Beca to grin. "I felt how anxious you were, so I thought I'd walk into the house with you."
"Is anyone else going to see you?" Beca asked. "Or will I look like I'm talking to myself?"
"They'll see me if I want them to," Sophie said. "But they don't need me as much as you do."
"Can you promise me that you'll always be there if I need you?"
"I always was and always will be," Sophie said.
Beca looked down, nodding her head. "I think I'm ready to go in."
"Let's go then," Sophie said.
Beca opened the car door and stepped out. She was surprised to see her father, Sheila, and Matt waiting for her.
"We thought we'd all go in together," Warren said as Beca joined them.
Beca smiled, and when she looked back over her shoulder, her grandmother was no longer there.
~~ Afterlife ~~
"Beca, I don't want to push you, but we need to pick out a dress so we can get it to the funeral home."
"I'll go do that now," Beca said and slowly made her way up the steps.
Beca entered her grandmother's bedroom and went to her closet. She looked through the clothes hung there and pulled out a sky blue dress. Beca smiled because it reminded her of Chloe's eyes.
"Rebecca Cooke Mitchell," Sophie's voice called out from outside the closet. "You are not having me wear that for all eternity. It makes me look like an old lady."
"You are an old lady," Beca said with a smile.
"Don't be cheeky," Sophie said. Beca could tell by her voice she was smiling. "Just because I am an old lady, doesn't mean I have to look like one."
"Okay," Beca said, hanging the dress back on the pole. She pulled out another and stepped out of the closet, holding it up for Sophie to see. "How about this one?"
Sophie smiled when she saw the dress. It was one of her favorites.
"That's the one," Sophie said.
Beca stepped out of the closet and gently laid the dress on the bed. She then chose whatever else she thought was needed and placed everything in a small bag.
"I guess that's it," Beca said, looking around at the same time realizing that she couldn't see Sophie.
It was late when Beca and her family got back from the viewing for her grandmother. She was in her room when her phone's text notification pinged. She looked to see that Chloe had texted her, asking her if she could call.
Beca placed the call the Chloe instead; Chloe immediately answered.
"I wasn't expecting you to call me," Chloe said, answering the call.
"I thought I'd save time," Beca said. "Is everything okay?"
"I was going to ask you the same thing," Chloe said. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah," Beca said. "It's been a little weird, but my grandma is helping me get through it."
"What?" Chloe asked.
"Okay, so don't be freaked out, but I've seen my grandmother. And can talk to her."
"What do you mean?" Chloe said, sounding confused. "You can feel her around you?"
"No," Beca said and let out a sigh. "That night, after I found out my grandmother had passed away, I had what I thought was a dream. My grandmother was calling my name and woke me up. When I did wake up, she was standing at the foot of my bed."
Chloe listened intently as Beca told of talking to and hugging her grandmother. And how her grandmother helped her pick out the dress she would wear for her funeral.
"I swear I'm not making this up, Chloe," Beca said.
"I believe you, Beca," Chloe said. "The next time she shows herself, tell her I said hi and that I'm going to miss her."
"You're making fun of me," Beca said, pouting.
"No, I'm not. I swear," Chloe said. "I believe that you believe your grandmother has visited you. I just don't believe in ghosts."
"She's not a ghost," Beca said. "I hugged her and didn't go through her like in the movies."
Chloe let out a small scream. "Are you okay, Chloe?" Beca asked.
"I, uh, take back everything I just said," Chloe whispered to Beca.
"Hello, Chloe," Sophie said, causing Chloe's eyes to widen.
"Grandma Mitchell?" Chloe squeaked out.
"Is my grandmother there?" Beca asked through the phone.
"Uh-huh," Chloe said, nodding her head as if Beca could see her.
"Ask why she's visiting you?"
"Wh-why are you visiting me?" Chloe asked Sophie.
"I'm not sure," Sophie said. "I can sense when Beca needs me, and I sensed it just now, only I ended up here with you instead of with Beca."
"I was, um, Beca was telling me about seeing you," Chloe said. "Only I, I didn't believe her."
"Oh," Sophie said. "Do you believe her now?"
"Yes!" Chloe said, nodding her head.
"Good," Sophie said and disappeared.
"Grandma Mitchell?" Chloe called out, reaching for the empty space where Sophie was just standing. Chloe shook her head, unable to comprehend what just happened.
"What's going on, Chloe?" Beca asked.
"She was here, but now she's...gone," Chloe said.
Beca chuckled. "Yeah, she does that. Here one minute, and gone the next. I think she knows when I need to see her and then gets pulled back once the need passes for the moment."
"My heart is racing," Chloe said with her hand on her heart. She let out a small laugh.
"Beca!" Warren's voice called from downstairs.
"Chloe, I have to go," Beca said. "My dad's calling me."
"Okay," Chloe said. "I'll talk to you later."
~~ Afterlife ~~
Beca saw Sophie several times over the next few days. Her grandmother seemed to know when Beca needed her. Either to talk, or just get a Grandma Mitchell hug.
Beca was packing on Friday night when Sophie appeared again.
"Did you come to say goodbye?" Beca asked with a smile.
"I sensed your sadness," Sophie said.
"I'm going to miss you and this place," Beca said, sitting on the edge of her bed.
"Don't worry," Sophie said. "I'll still be around."
"I just wish," Beca started and stopped. She ran a hand through her hair. "I just wish you had seen me perform with my group. We have the State Championships tomorrow, and I wish you could be there."
Sophie pulled Beca into a hug. "I'm sorry I haven't gotten to see you perform, too."
Beca sniffled, and Sophie hugged her tighter. Suddenly, Beca fell back onto the bed as her grandmother disappeared.
"Grandma?" Beca said. She frowned when her grandmother didn't reappear as she had expected she would.
~~ Afterlife ~~
The next morning, Beca's plane landed, and she texted Chloe to let her know. Chloe texted back to tell Beca their rehearsal time had been moved to two o'clock, and the girls were having lunch at the hotel.
Beca read Chloe's text and decided to head to the hotel and join the girls for lunch.
"Beca!" Chloe called out when she saw Beca walk into the hotel's restaurant.
"Hey!" Beca said as the other girls welcomed her.
Amy grabbed Beca in a bear hug, whispering, "I'm sorry about your grandma."
"Thanks, Amy," Beca said.
Beca seemed sad and looked around, hoping to see her grandmother. She got sadder when she didn't appear.
"Beca, are you okay?" Chloe asked, having seen Beca looking around.
"I don't know," Beca said softly. "I haven't seen my grandma since last night. She usually shows when I'm sad, or anxious and I've been both today. I, I think she might be gone forever."
Chloe put her arms around Beca and laid her cheek on the top of Beca's head. "I'm sorry, Beca."
"It's okay," Beca said sadly. "She said she'd always be here when I needed her." Beca let out a small sob, and tears ran down her face. "And I really need her."
Tears came to Chloe's eyes as she continued to hold Beca. After a moment or two, they separated, and Beca wiped her eyes. Chloe was grateful that the other girls didn't say anything about seeing Beca cry.
~~ Afterlife ~~
After lunch, the girls made their way to the Conference Center for their final rehearsal. Chloe stayed close to Beca, in case Beca needed her.
The rehearsal was a bit lackluster—Beca's sadness casting a shadow over the team's enthusiasm.
Chloe spent the rest of the afternoon just sitting with Beca until it was time to return for the competition.
Chloe wanted to do something to cheer Beca up but didn't know what to do.
The Barden BAs were waiting backstage for their turn to take the stage. Beca looked around, the sadness oozing out of her when her eyes suddenly widened, and she grabbed Chloe's arm.
"She's here!" Beca said excitedly.
"Who?" Chloe said, looking around.
"My grandma," Beca said. "She's really here!"
"I don't understand," Chloe said.
"Don't you see her?" Beca asked, her eyes bright with excitement.
Chloe shook her head but couldn't help the smile that came to her face when Beca started bouncing up and down. The rest of the team looked at Beca with furrowed brows. Worried about this sudden change in Beca's demeanor.
"Barden BAs, you're up next," the stage manager told them.
The girls got excited, spurred on by Beca's sudden enthusiasm.
"Let's do this," Beca exclaimed as the emcee announced them.
Beca literally bounced out onto the stage, followed by her team. They got into position, and Beca counted down.
By the time the Barden BAs finished their set, the entire place was on their feet, clapping and cheering. Beca grabbed Chloe and spun her around.
"What has gotten into you?" Chloe asked, laughing.
"I was sad earlier because my grandma was gone," Beca said, trying to catch her breath. "But she's here. Chloe," Beca said and took a breath. "This is the first time my grandmother got to see me perform."
Chloe looked around and smiled when she saw Sophie give her a small wave from the side of the stage. Chloe waved back, and Sophie disappeared.
Chloe wiped a tear from Beca's face and softly said, "I'm so happy for you."

Almost - Part 1
It’s odd looking back, how little she remembers. Somehow Beca had made it here, to someplace in the middle of god damn nowhere, coerced to wear a blindfold led through the dark to this room. There was a sense of erie calmness that overtook her body in the car. Yet here, standing on some sort of wooden deck, it was replaced by a need to rip her blindfold off and get the hell out of here. She didn’t, though. “It would ruin the surprise, Beca!” Yeah, okay Chloe. Somehow the both of us didn’t anticipate this though so I’m not sure if this applies, Beca thought. She shifted her weight from one leg to another, waiting.
____
Literally, why was it so hard to get up out of bed? Maybe it was because there was literally no one there to judge her for it. It was not her fault her roommate dropped out the day college started. She thought that they could suffer through it together but it looks like that girl had the right idea: this sucked. There was no one here and no one to talk to. Not that Beca loved talking or anything, but it was nice to know that if she died or something at least someone would wonder if she was ever coming back. All she was really accountable for was keeping her plant alive at this point. And even he– she glanced over at him, drooping in the little pot in the corner of her windowsill– wasn’t looking good. When kids meant they cared about “streaks” these days, I don’t think they meant this.
This was the fifth day in a row she’d be laying in her dorm room, switching between her Netlfix and Hulu tabs religiously. But hey, at least she wasn’t hungry! Or, more likely, she’d surpassed hunger into the nauseous stage. She winced. That’s not great, even by Beca standards. She was pretty sure that was not recommended.
It was 4pm. That meant the dining hall wasn’t open with the exception of a few cereal options and rejected pieces of fruit from meals earlier in the day. Still, Beca headed to the elevator and indicated the first floor. Two people– a redhead and a brunette– got in on her long way down from the twelfth floor. Not bad for a building with a thousand people. The less human interaction, the better.
The food was bad, and but numbing. I mean, she couldn’t expect miracles from a bowl of captain crunch and a questionable banana, but still. Maybe she’d come back later that night. Maybe. That seemed like ages from now.
As she exited she thought vaguely of the library and of the textbook chapter she had yet to read for tomorrow. God, even just thinking of class was an exhausting thought. And still, she went. Usually. She knew that her dad would get a direct report if she didn’t. So yes, she did show up. But that didn’t mean she had to pay attention or, god forbid, participate.
Beca turned, deciding against it. A large body stopped her. Well, that was putting it nicely. Fat Amy basically initiated her, knocking most of the air from Beca’s lungs.
“Dude, watch it.”
“Yeah well maybe if you weren’t so busy looking lost I wouldn’t have to stop with the sheer force of my cooch.” Fat Amy said.
“Your what?”
Beca had heard of this girl. She was the one who poured pink hair dye all over some girl’s head after she called her a fat bitch. She must have just been called Amy back then, but the name stuck. Even good-natured professors found themselves calling her that. She was loud, obnoxious, and her Australian accent was so prominent Beca (and others) often wondered if it was even real. Claiming to be a fantastic exotic dancer (with a specialty in mermaid dancing apparently) Fat Amy was never one to miss a party.
“Here, you look like you could use this, short stuff.” Fat Amy thrust something to Beca’s chest. Before Beca could say a thing, Amy was gone as quickly as she had come.
Trivia night, huh? More like a situation where Beca would have to pretend to be occupied in her phone and to be social for a night. Still, it was starting in seven minutes, and Beca knew where it was. It beat going to the library and probably would help her case during her weekly check-ins with her therapist. Wow, Beca thought. A new low. Going to a social event so her therapist didn’t think she was lame.
Beca arrived at Barden’s Lion Den and found a seat just as the game started. Two girls asked if they could share the six-person table Beca occupied, and she obliged. The two girls sat and began discussing the answer to the first question. Dumbly, Beca realized she forgot to grab a card on her way in. There was no way she was going to draw attention to herself. Thank god for the iPhone that saved her in awkward social situations, like this one. She started scrolling, tapping haphazardly if she saw something that caught her eye. The two girls across from her excitedly discussed their answers, growing louder by the second. Beca realized that a third girl had joined them, promptly changing the topic to a party that night, related to the Barden Bellas.
Beca had heard of them of course– she had a bad habit of reading the posters that were always plastered through the hallways throughout the entire school– and often critiqued them in her mind. You’d be surprised how many administration approved posters there were that seemed to forget that spellcheck existed. Beca remembered the Bellas posters because of the flight attendant like uniforms that all of the girls on the poster sported, grinning from ear to ear. She kind of hated that poster. No people in college should be that happy, she thought.
Still, Beca heard bits and pieces. 8 pm. Meet at the Barden Lawn, and then head to a secondary location. Show up in green. It kind of sounded more like orders, to Beca. But immediately she did the math: 8pm wasn’t so bad for a Barden activity. Most things around here started at 11pm, at the earliest. And two social events in one week? There was no way Beca’s therapist could write her up or show any concern. This was healthy, and “very, very good, Beca!” She could practically hear Amber smiling. And, there was no invite needed.
Looking back, that had to be the night that she met Chloe. Chloe had to have been there with her, somewhere in the crowd with all the other chattering girls. But back then there was just a bunch of chatting girls that followed their leaders in a pack towards a supposed “secondary location”– a spot across town. Beca tried, like she always did, to make small talk with a few of the other girls on the way. As always, they became much more engaged in their own conversation than they did talking to Beca. So Beca trailed off behind them into the night air.
Notes: In this version, Beca is a little nicer and Chloe is most certainly not. This is a chiller version of the Bellas, and while there are some familiar members, there are also some new additions just to change it up a bit. Slow introduction to lots of drugs and alcohol, because that’s just what I felt like writing about. But let’s be real: you’re here to read about Bechloe, and I’m here to deliver– though I cannot promise that there will not be some angst to get there. With that, enjoy!

Jesse's Girl
This is my first time writing bechloe fanfic, I’ve written for other fandoms before though. I thought that these weekly prompts might be a good way to get my feet wet and see how it goes. This is my take on the enemies prompt. This is a really loose re-write on the hood night party from PP2. Dont be mislead by the title, its definitely bechloe 😉. Let me know what you think 😊
You can read it below or on AO3

                                                   Jesse’s Girl
It’s no secret to any of the Bellas or Treble Makers that Chloe and Jesse aren’t the closest. Their interactions – which are few and far in between – are usually coated in a thin layer of ice. Everyone knows the true reason for the bitterness between the two has nothing to do with who either of them are but it has more to do about a certain person – one short, brunette alt girl…who seems completely oblivious to why her two favorite people can’t seem to get along. Beca is Jesse’s girlfriend and Chloe is her best friend, at least that’s what Beca and Chloe like to think. Of course, the two girls are painfully oblivious to the fact that they are in love with each other; but Jesse is no idiot. He can see it, but who is he to break it off with the girl he loves. As long as Beca will have him, he’s not going to end it. Which is how he’s ended up in the current situation.
“Jesse, where is Beca? I thought she was going to be with you tonight?” Jesse can see the flames of something close to anger or maybe annoyance flick behind the red head’s eyes as she stares him down.
“I thought she was with you?” Jesse counters lamely. He knows where Beca is. And honestly, he’s surprised Beca didn’t tell her other half about the internship.
“I thought she was with you?” Chloe looks more confused, the tone of annoyance seemingly gone. He feels bad about lying to Chloe, maybe. But he’s not going to be the one to tell Chloe if it’s clear Beca has been avoiding doing so.
“Well I hope she shows up soon, wherever she is,” Chloe takes a sip from her prized yellow cup. “She can’t miss her last hood night.”
Chloe and the rest of the Bellas walk past him and make their way into the sea of acapella party goers. Jesse shakes his head; as much as he’d like to see the girls’ relationship implode on itself, he knows Beca needs to tell Chloe what’s going on.
**************************************************************************
“Ya know, you and Jesse should really draw up a custody schedule for Shaw Shank,” Fat Amy quips before walking away towards Barden’s latest security recruit, Bumper.
“What are you talking about, Amy?” Chloe was still a little bothered by her conversation with Jesse and wasn’t in the mood for Fat Amy’s smart remarks.
It was no use asking though since Amy was already blazing a trail towards her not-so-secret boyfriend. Chloe needed to do something to get into the party mood. She wasn’t going to let Jesse or Beca ruin the mood for her probably last hood night – especially since her last year in acapella is basically destroyed thanks to their little mishap at the Kennedy Center. She can’t help being a little hurt at the fact that Beca is MIA and didn’t bother telling her or Jesse. Beca has been so distant and almost secretive about her life lately. She and Beca had always told each other everything. What happened to that? Whatever is going on, shouldn’t she know she can tell her anything?
“Come on, captain, let’s get this party going!” Stacie comes into Chloe’s line of sight holding two solo cups of whatever alcoholic poison was whipped up for tonight’s festivities.
Stacie thrusts one of the cups into Choe’s hand, ignoring the fact that she’s already holding a drink that she poured herself back at the Bella’s. Chloe looks suspiciously at the contents before tipping it back. There’s the slight hint of pineapple? Maybe cherry? God, who knows? But it burns all the way down her throat. A few of these and she’ll soon be forgetting and enjoying herself in no time.
“Yeah, let’s do this, Stace!” Chloe empties the contents of the cup and links her arm with Stacie. The two dance their way into the crowd of people, eager to start their night of partying.
*************************************************************************
Jesse is sitting at the bar, nursing his drink and thinking about when Beca is going to get here. He wants to see how her first day went. He wants to tell her about the new Treble recruits. He just wants to see his girlfriend. As if she somehow read his thoughts, he feels a weight on the back of his chair and turns just in time to catch Beca’s lips with his. It’s a quick kiss and Beca is flinging herself into the chair next to him before he knows it.
“Chloe asked where you were. Why didn’t you tell her?” he surprises himself with the first words that fly out of his mouth. He watches her as she looks off into the distance and her eyes bug for a second. He can tell it bothers her – she’s nervous.
“Oh she’s…she’s just like locked into the world’s right now….and I’m looking for the right time…” she gestures off in the distance. “I’ll tell her.” Jesse doesn’t believe her, not for a second. He doesn’t know why she’s so hesitant to tell her but he selfishly doesn’t want to push her. Why would he lobby for the woman that’s in love with his girlfriend?
“Okay, so how was your first day?” he asks hopefully.
“Oh, it was eye opening that’s for sure,” the smile that lights up her face tells him all he needs to know.
***************************************************************************
Chloe’s on her third drink of the night and can feel it. The music courses through her as she laughs and dances with the other Bellas. She’s wishing she hadn’t worn what she did anymore. Maybe she should have opted for the skimpy tank top she was debating over because she’s so warm. She feels Flo move in behind her and the two girls playfully bump and grind to the Britney Spears song blaring through the Treble’s outdoor sound system. In her tipsy, almost drunken haze, Chloe almost misses the short brunette she’s been looking for all night. She spins just in time to see her pecking Jesse on the lips and sitting down next to him at the bar. A strange feeling washes through her at the sight. She shakes it off and starts walking towards the pair, intent on talking to her best friend. She catches Beca’s eye and she flashes her a brilliant smile. It makes Chloe’s heart soar and she walks a little quicker over to her.
“Beca!” Chloe wraps her arms around her from behind. “Where were you?”
“I had to stay late at the station tonight,” Beca replies, almost too quickly.
“You never have to work at the radio station on Friday.” Chloe pouts, hugging Beca just a little bit tighter. Beca visibly tenses at Chloe’s words and she looks to Jesse, her eyes bugging out.
“Drew was sick. I couldn’t leave the freshmen in charge.” She shrugs as best as she can with Chloe hanging off of her.
“Okay well let’s parrrtaayyy!” Chloe whips around and grabs Beca’s arm, pulling her off the stool. Beca can’t do anything but smile as the bubbly and clearly drunk redhead pulls her towards the other bellas.
“Have fun Beca!” Jesse calls over to the duo.
“Come dance, nerd!” Beca smirks back.
“No thanks, have fun with your girls,” He replies, shaking his head. He turns back around and takes a big swig of his drink.
No problem. You sit there and let me dance with my best friend, Chloe thinks proudly, dragging Beca through the crowd. Chloe squeals as “Titanium” starts playing. Beca and Chloe both smile wildly as they start dancing with each other. This is their song and neither of them can miss the chance to dance to the song that brought them together. Chloe grips Beca by her shoulders and her heart melts a little when she sees how Beca is looking back at her. They both know what the other is thinking before they both start belting out the chorus as it starts, jumping around, lost in their own world. When the song ends Beca looks at Chloe, out of breath, her eyes sparkling. Chloe fights the urge in her gut to just lean forward and kiss the brunette. Her head swirls at the rogue thought, although it’s not completely out of the ordinary for Chloe lately. She’s been having some feelings towards her best friend. Well, she’s known they were there since she busted into her shower her freshman year. They’ve just grown by a few sizes in the last year. But she’s with Jesse and Chloe can’t.  The thought leaves a sour feeling now in the pit of her stomach. Chloe takes a steadying breath and pulls Beca into a tight hug, before letting go and starting to dance to the next song that comes on.
*********************************************************************
Jesse watches sourly from the spot he hasn’t moved from since Beca arrived at the party. His drink is still over half full but doesn’t feel the need to add alcohol to his already piss poor mood. He wasn’t the happiest all day and then watching Beca and Chloe dance just now made it entirely worse. Yeah, he could have gone and danced with her like she wanted, but he just feels so  awkward hanging around the two. There’s just something there between the two he can’t seem to match – no matter how hard he tries. He knows that Chloe loves Beca, anyone within a 5-mile radius can see that. But does Beca reciprocate those feelings? Does Beca love her back? God, he hopes not. Ge’s pretty sure that Beca loves him. But he might be delusional at this point. Sometimes he wonders if he should just end it now and save himself the trouble. He sighs and turns to look back out at the sea of people, just in time to catch Chloe pulling Beca into a bone crushing hug. Beca squeezes her back just as tight, a broad smile on her face. Jesse tips the contents of his cup into his mouth and hops off his stool, walking over to the two girls.
**************************************************************************
Beca pulls herself out of Chloe’s embrace, a warm fuzzy feeling seeps from the top of her head down to her toes. It’s usually how she feels whenever Chloe hugs her, a hug from Chloe is sunshine, happiness and warmth.
“Beca!” She hears Jesse call, walking towards the crowd.
“You decided to come get in on this action?” Beca spins towards her boyfriend, shimmying around dorkily.
Chloe giggles at her, busting a move of her own. Jesse doesn’t answer, but Beca grabs his hand anyways and pulls him into her orbit. The three all start dancing; Jesse keeps close to Beca. She turns her back to him to face Chloe and she can feel his hands grasp on to her hips. A small gasp of surprise leaves the brunette, but she smiles and goes with the flow, leaning back into him. The pair playfully grind for a little while, letting the beats of the music flow through them, dictating their movements. Beca looks to Chloe and sees that her eyes are seemingly focused on the two of them. She’s looking dead into Jesse’s eyes. Beca quirks her eyebrow and turns her head to look at her boyfriend. He has definitely locked eyes with the redhead across from them. The stare between the two seems to be laced with some sort of non-verbal communication. The uncomfortable tension between the two hangs in the air around them. Chloe breaks the stare and turns to walk further into the crowd – away from the two. Beca is confused to say the least at this point. She vaguely registers that she’s stopped dancing and so has Jesse behind her.
“Dude what just happened there?” She spins around and looks him in the eye.
“I don’t know.” Jesse shrugs.
“Bullshit.” Beca spits back as best she can over the music, “What happened between you two? Did you say something to her?” Beca asks. She had been looking at Chloe the whole time and never saw her say anything to him.
“No, I didn’t say anything. Why are you so angry?” Jesse says loudly and firmly back.
“Because I could fucking feel something in the air. There were daggers happening. Chloe doesn’t walk away angry like that very often,” Beca flails her arms around expressively.
“So she’s pissed off? What does that have to do with us?” Jesse rolls his eyes. Beca is blown back by his retort. Where is her boyfriend and who is this jackass?
“I’m done here, dude. I don’t know what you did but I’m going to find Chloe,” Beca spins around and heads through the crowd in search of Chloe.
She hears Jesse calling her, but she doesn’t particularly care at the moment. She doesn’t know what Jesse said to her or what he did, but he made Chloe upset – that much she can tell. She has no clue why two of her favorite people just can’t seem to make peace. She doubts it’s any kind of Treble vs. Bella thing. That pretty much died away at the end of her freshman year, after Aubrey handed her the reigns. So who knows? But she just wishes that they could at least pretend for her. She spots Chloe sitting down on a lawn chair at the edge of the yard, looking wistfully off in the distance. She doesn’t look angry, but she doesn’t look like her normal, happy, bubbly self either. Beca walks over and plops down in the grass in front of her.
“Hey Chlo.” She says, trying to keep her voice cheerful.
“Becs,” Chloe acknowledges her but doesn’t look directly at her. She’s playing with her hands. Beca knows that’s something she only does when she’s angry or nervous.
“What happened back there?” Beca doesn’t want to prod, but she wants to know what’s going on.
“Nothing. It’s fine.” Chloe looks down at her, biting her lower lip.
“I know it’s not nothing,” Beca says back calmly. Usually it’s Chloe breaking down all of Beca’s walls. This is  a weird shift – to be on the other side of it. Beca hears a very telling sigh from the girl above her, one that usually means she’s going to be brutally honest,
“Why are you with him?”  Chloe asks bluntly. The question floors Beca and suddenly the tables are turned again. Chloe’s coming in with her sledgehammer. She rolls it around in her head before she can properly say anything
“What?” Beca finally asks.
“Why are you with him?” She says,  clear as day back to Beca, blue eyes swimming with more emotion that she’s seen in a while. Beca is truly at a loss for words. She doesn’t really know where this is coming from
“I don’t know, Chlo.I like him? He’s good to me? It’s easy, it feels natural. Why wouldn’t I want to be with him? You seem like you have a reason for me - so what is it Chlo?” Now Beca is the one fidgeting angrily, pulling at the loose stitches on the edge of the black jeans she’s wearing.
“What if there’s something better?” Chloe doesn’t miss a beat. “You “like” him. Sounds boring. Where’s the passion Beca? Where’s the heat? Does he turn your world off its axis? Does he make you feel like you can’t breathe right when you’re around him?”
“I don’t know?” Beca stands up angrily in front of the other girl. “Yes? Ugh. Sure. Why does it matter? You should be happy for me. You’re my best friend? What is your problem with Jesse!?”
“He’s not me!” Chloe shoots to her feet. Her cheeks are as red as her hair, her hands flying as she gestures. “God, you’re so blind sometimes!” The ground feels like it drops out from underneath Beca. She takes a deep steadying breath. Did Chloe really say what Beca thinks she did?
************************************************************************
Chloe sucks in air like her lungs were completely emptied. Her head spins. Did she really just say that? Did she really just say everything she did? She definitely did not see this playing out how it did. Beca is looking at her like a baby doe that ran out in front of a semi. Any slight movement and she’ll be running. Chloe runs a hand through her hair nervously.
“Beca…I” she feels tears threatening to spill over. “I don’t know why I did that…I” But before she can say more Beca cuts in.
“How do you feel about me Chloe? I’m pretty sure I get the picture here, but I need you to say it. Just say it Chlo.”  Beca says sternly. Here’s her chance.  She basically just said it, but here it is out in the open again. Here is take two. Chloe swallows back nerves.
“I like you Beca. No scratch that, I love you Beca.” Chloe says, her heart pounding in her chest. She can hear her heartbeat in her ears and the world feels like it’s shaking as Beca asks her next question.
“How long?”
“Well, I knew I liked you when I busted into your shower three years ago…” Chloe can’t help the smirk that forms on her face and to her pleasant surprise is also on Beca’s face. “I knew I loved you around the time of the ICCAs your freshman year.” Instead of stopping there, Chloe forges forward. This is her shot and she’s not going to waste it. “I was going to tell you after we won. Then you went and kissed Jesse. I knew I should have said something sooner, but I didn’t. It’s been so hard to keep it in, keep it bottled up. It’s been hard to see you everyday with him. And then tonight when you were dancing with him, he was looking at me like he knew. Like he was marking his territory by dancing with you like that in front of me. I just couldn’t take it. Then when you came to talk to me, something just snapped. But I’m not sorry for taking my shot. I know it’s not fair to you, but I just…” Chloe can’t help the tears that are running down her face now. Beca just looks at her bewildered.
“Chloe I had no idea. Okay, maybe I had a little bit of an idea, but I just assumed it was you. You’re a flirt. you don’t have personal space. I just assumed…” She shakes her head. “I need time to think. I’m sorry I’m not impulsive like that. I need some space. I need some time.”
“Beca…” She doesn’t even know what else to say. Chloe feels as though her heart was ripped out of her chest if it wasn’t already. She’s not sure what Beca is feeling and she’s not going to know for a while
She shakes her head and sits back down in the grass, staring aimlessly across the party scene in front of them. Chloe walks away back towards the Bella’s house, her tears blinding her vision. She barely makes it to her room before a choked sob escapes her. She flings herself down onto her bed and lets herself cry.
******************************************************************************
It’s been a few days since hood night and Beca just doesn’t seem right. Jesse looks over at her sitting on his bed. They’re having their normal Tuesday movie night and Beca had begrudgingly said yes. She’s even less involved in this than normal. Her jaw is tight and she’s barely touched the giant bowl of popcorn between the two of them. She’s not even trying to pretend she’s watching the movie. He’s tried asking her what happened on Friday, but she won’t say anything.
“Are you seriously not going to tell me what happened?” Jesse pauses the movie and asks.
“I said there’s nothing to talk about.” She shakes her head.
“That’s absolute bullshit. Both you and I know that.” He touches her hand and she flinches away from him. “You are never this upset about just nothing.”
“I’ve just had a lot to think about.” He can see her face twitch, the façade she put on cracking slightly.
“Uh huh, sure.” He looks back at the paused movie screen deciding his next words. “It has something to do with Chloe, right?” Beca doesn’t say anything but her face twitches again just slightly, in a way that Jesse knows he’s hit the nail on the head.
“What happened when you went to go find her?” Jesse slams the laptop shut and shoves it to the end of the bed, scooting closer to her. Beca shakes her head, an exasperated smile on her face.
“I can’t…” she looks back over at him, her eyes are full of unshed tears.
“Just tell me.” he pleads, grabbing her hand again; this time she doesn’t squirm away from him. She sighs deeply and wipes the few rogue tears away from under her eyes,
“She…umm,” she’s toying with the ring on her finger nervously. “She told me that she loves me.” Jesse’s stomach falls to his feet, that’s what he was afraid she was going to say. Now it’s his turn for his jaw to tighten.
“Do you love her back?” He asks her carefully, unsure if he wants to know the answer.
“I don’t know…maybe.” Now the tears are flowing freely down Beca’s face in a rare moment of raw emotion not normally seen from her. He’s not sure why his next words leave him, but he’s known for a while, it isn’t him anymore.
“You want to know what I think…” he chuckles lamely.  “I think you do.”
“What!?” Beca’s reaction is quick and visceral, she gapes at him.
“I think you love her too. It’s okay if you do.” Now Jesse can feel the unshed tears in his own eyes. “I see the way you look at her. I see how she makes you feel. I’ve never made you feel the way she does.”
She’s stunned into silence for a few moments and he can see the wheels turning in her head. She turns quickly to pull him into her arms. Jesse hugs her back willingly. She kisses him hard and he can tell – this is the last time this is going to happen.
“I love Chloe.” she whispers into his shoulder after she pulls away from the kiss.
“I know,” Jesse says definitively, “it’s okay.”
“Can we still be friends?” Beca pulls out of his arms and wipes the last of the tears from her face.
“Eventually, but I need time to heal first.” Jesse sighs. He wants Beca to be happy, but he can’t rush into a friendship right away.
“I…I get that,” Beca stutters. She stands up from the bed and grabs her messenger bag from the floor
“I’m gonna?” she motions to the door.
“Go get her.” Jesse shakes his head. He watches her leave and shut the door. He knew it would happen eventually; he just didn’t think so soon. He always kind of knew that Chloe was going to win.
*************************************************************************
Chloe hasn’t left her bed all day, except to go to the bathroom. She didn’t even bother emailing her professors that she wasn’t going to be in class. Chloe was broken. Beca hasn’t spoken to her since it happened. And she knows it’s going to take her some time to talk to her for a while. Chloe needs time too. She needs time to pick up the pieces and glue them back together. It isn’t easy to be rejected, especially when you feel as deeply as Chloe does. She doesn’t love with half her heart. She loves deeply, wholly in a way that always seems to get her in trouble. She rolls onto her back and stares at the ceiling, wondering what would have been different if she had told her sooner. She knows she needs to stop. What’s done is done. There’s no use replaying it. She almost doesn’t hear the knock at her door. She would think she’s hearing things if it wasn’t for a certain someone calling her name from the other side.
“Chloe?” There is another tentative knock and shy voice at the door. Chloe scrambles up from bed and runs to open the door. A scared looking Beca with red eyes and wild hair stands on the other side. She’s definitely been crying.
“Can I come in?” She asks quietly. Chloe just nods, not able to form words currently. Beca paces around her room for a little bit until she comes to stand in front of her.
“I suck at words.” She smiles shyly. “I was just with Jesse and he said some stuff that really made me realize how I feel.”
“What, Becs?” Chloe nods, afraid to hear what she’s going to say next.
“He said that he thinks I love you too.” Beca takes a deep breath.
“Beca, I can’t take much more of this…I need to try and-” Beca cuts her off before she can say anything else.
“And I agree with him. I do.” She looks so scared, but not in a bad way. “Love you, that is.”
The words hit Chloe hard and fast. She lunges towards Beca and pulls her in, touching her lips to the other girls for the first time. At first Beca is tentative, her lips unmoving against Chloe’s. Chloe pulls away to check Beca’s reaction, but before she can Beca lunges back at her, this time kissing her back. It surprises Chloe but she is quick to reciprocate. They don’t pull away until the air between them is completely gone. Chloe rests her head against the brunette’s, breathing hard.
“I didn’t think that was ever going to happen.” Chloe chuckles.
“Say it again.” Beca says, her voice thick with emotion. Chloe looks at her confused.
“Tell me you love me. I want a do-over.” she says quietly, barely above a whisper.
“I love you so much Beca Mitchell.” Chloe’s heart swells at her words. The smile that forms on Beca’s face lights up Chloe’s whole world
 “I love you Chloe Beale.”

Weekly Bechloe - Quarantine AO3 link here
Word count: idk like 800
Summary: Beca makes her daughters participate in a mini game of "nail'd it" - like the show on Netflix.
Notes: This is a quick little story for the weekly Bechloe prompt of "Quarantine". I've literally written this in like 30 mins so excuse the (likely) mistakes and shortness.  It’s also focused more on Bechloe than their kids because I don’t know how to write kids...
Read / don’t read.  Enjoy / don’t enjoy - it’s your life!
