How do you keep track of all the music you listen to?

hey! i'm massively neurotic about my music listening habits, so i use a couple different things.

if you're talking about the charts i post, those are scraped from last.fm data, which i have synced to my spotify account. i mostly listen to stuff i own on physical releases, though, so i add those manually using openscrobbler. then at the end of the week (or month or whatever), i go on topsters and generate a chart by putting in my last.fm username. i usually do weekly charts on a 5x5 grid because i find that usually covers all the full albums i listen to over the course of the week and i don't find that stuff i listen to off of playlists is super representative of what i actually listen to.

if you're talking about how i actually organize what i listen to, i have a private discord server that i just use to keep notes for myself. the music channel on there is just a really long list of albums, usually linking out to a rateyourmusic record so i can see genres, release date, length, and all of that stuff for some additional context while i'm listening. i've been using this system for a couple years now and i love it. if there's anything i come across that i think i may want to listen to at some point, i just put the link in there. i usually just go through the list chronologically whenever i sit down to listen to music, so i don't really have to think about what i want to listen to. it's basically like using those spotify algorithmically generated playlists, but i added all the stuff in there myself. i have no idea how much stuff is actually in the list, but i listen to around 20-40 albums a week usually and i'm almost always around 6 months behind the current calendar date. today i'm listening to stuff i added on 5/29/2024.

hi answer!! :D last.fm tracks your listening with scrobbles which is amount of times you listened to a song all the way through without pausing or skipping. and it can give u all sorts of data but i like to go to lastcollage.io and it makes u a collage of your music! you can pick the size or time period to include. friday 5x5 was a cute weekly trend on twitter that i would participate in but when i deleted twitter entirely i started doing it here, so i dont always see other people doing it but i dont care! when u get last.fm it only tracks from when you get the app, not from before. so if u make an account today u gotta wait a week before u have any scrobbles to make a lastcollage.
