Pineappleweed was originally native to western North America, from Alaska to California, but is now 'naturalized' in eastern North America, Europe, Asia, Greenland, Iceland, South America, and New Zealand. To say that it prefers compacted, poor-quality soil is an understatement. This pineappleweed patch is flourishing in the remains of a washed-out gravel path.

If you take a pineappleweed flower and rub it between your fingers, it produces an odor half-way between a pineapple and chamomile. Some people put pineappleweed in a teapot. However, if you're looking for a real fan of this plant, try feeding it to your pet rabbit. I tell you, bunny rabbits absolutely love pineappleweed.

i really wish i could spend a day or maybe a weekend (or more) just trying to smoke and take edibles to see how high i need to get in order to just clear out the fridge or better yet go to a buffet if i had someone to make sure my dosage was up i could only imagine how much i could eat and gain in a small time period -🕷️🐞

Taking the idea of a green day and strecthing it into a green week.

The only things going between your lips for seven days are pipes, joints, edibles, anything that will go right to your wasitline - and me of course.

Spending a whole day alternating bong hits, slurps of shakes and my fingers in my mouth until you're completely dazed.

Spending another day seeing how many layers of drowsy pliability I can build feeding you edible after edible, ignoring you when you ask why you're feeling so strange, or just offering soft words of encouragement to take another bite.

Waiting until day 7 to really pusgh you to your limit. Waking you up with a packed bong and a few gummies but not the hefty breakfast you're used to. Every time you beg me for a snack pushing another fat joint between your lips, or my cock if you're getting to whiny for my taste.

On your unusually empty stomach the drugs hit you even harder, and soon you're a glazed mess, letting me lead you to the car and take you down to the buffet in town.

Encouraging to hit the pen before we go in - just one more, for me - the rumbling of your stomach matching the desperate expression on your face.

Taking you into the buffet, putting a plate on a tray so you don't waste any energy carrying it yourself. Noticing everything you look at hungrily but don;t grab and filling a second plate with that. Sliding into the booth across from you and watching you dig into both heaping piles of food, the ravenous hunger from my week of training combining with the weed to make you completely insatiable.

We won;t be leaving for a long time, but if you're good I'll take you into the parking lot for a few more hits before we grab dessert.

Flowers are back after the freeze so I've been pressing a bunch for the wood paintings! I have another monarch painted, just waiting for the purple flowers to finish drying in another 1.5 weeks. Flower pressing is a test of patience that's for sure.

21 June 2024 - Friday Field Notes

Baby Pronghorn! I was wondering why the adults were hanging out around the parking lot so much late in the day when I spotted this lil dude. Mama Pronghorns will leave their young unattended while they go forage and the babies will hide in the grass until they come back.

Not the most successful Crayfish catching expedition. We only caught two lol. It was pretty early in the day and I don't think they'd had their coffee yet either.

Lots of bugs this week. Some sort of beetle grub (not sure the species) and another Bold Jumping Spider! (I think)

Butterfly Weed (Asclepias tuberosa) has these beautiful orange flowers. A type of Milkweed which is also a host to Monarch Butterflies.

Soapweed Yucca (Yucca glauca) are members of the Asparagaceae family (yes, asparagus) and have a symbiotic relationship with Yucca Moths (Tegeticula sp. and Parategeticula sp.). These plants are only pollinated by these species of moths. Yucca Moths will lay their eggs in the flowers of the Yucca plants and when the larvae hatch they'll eat the Yucca seeds. However, these moths know not to overburden the plants and leave pheromone cues for other female moths indicating that eggs have already been laid on a particular flower. Yucca Moths also intentionally pollinate the flowers, unlike bees which pollinate accidentally, and distribute pollen between flowers as they're laying eggs. Soapweed refers to the saponins that are found in this plant, which is a chemical compound that, well, can be used as soap. There are a lot of traditional Indigenous uses for this plant beyond soap, certain parts of the plant are edible and the leaves are fibrous and can be used in cordage for all sorts of things.

Leafy Spurge Hawkmoth Caterpillar on some Leafy Spurge (Euphorbia virgata) both of these species are introduced to N. America. Leafy Spurge is considered a noxious weed in many states. The Hawkmoth though was introduced as a biocontrol for the plant though, since these caterpillars eat Leafy Spurge. Unfortunately, the introduction of the moth hasn't fully mitigated the effects of the introduced weed, so other weed management strategies still have to be employed.
