WEDNESDAY IS THE MORE POPULAR ADAMS

People LOVE goth girls and stories about not fitting in with one’s family or about striking out on your own — nobody is writing stories about pigsty because nobody gives a SHIT about pugsly and I’m tired of all these weird tumblr logic posts about how something that has an obvious cause in popularity/economics (the Adam’s family is a decent sized IP, they know their audience. They have merch.)

The appeal of the Adam’s family is how weird and different they are, and more recently — goth. Goth wasn’t always a well established sub genres but it is now and goth girls are absolutely the face and primary target of goth merch. Of course the elementary - college aged goth girl of the group is going to become the focus over other family members in the modern iterations.

The character has gone from a caricature of everything a little girl wasn’t expected to be to being an exaggerated persona of goth girls or an externalized expression of people who feel “”different”” and feeling “”different”” has been a huge fucking market for media for the past 20 some years now as fandom and fantasy fulfillment become bigger and bigger in popular culture

So why isn’t their more realistic or insightful material on how pugsly is the black sheep in the family? Because people don’t fucking care about pugsly and 90% of the people watching and buying Wedensday centric Adam’s family shit wouldn’t buy pugsly shit

why is it that all the new addams family media from the last like 20 years has been like “oh wednesday doesn’t fit in with her family” “oh wednesday is striking out on her own and discovering her own interests” as if she’s not literally the perfect ideal addams and she doesn’t love being the perfect ideal addams meanwhile pugsley is a colorful bright-haired optimist who adopted a puppy and then joined the boy scouts until his parents called a therapist on him

“Well hold on a minute now,” he furrowed his brow, and pushed his palm against the mattress to lift himself into an even more upright position. He let out a grunt from the effort, but the pain wasn’t as bad as it had been earlier. “Did you not tell me that you have conjured up additional scenes to fill in the gaps in the story?”

His words suddenly registering on another level, she sucked in a breath and widened her eyes. “Wait,” lowering the novel, she closed it around her finger in the same way that Ezra had. “Does that mean… have you been to the Ephrate? To the Bowsum Conservatory?”

“I have,” he nodded once. “And that is why I find it hard to believe that you haven’t.”
