Celebrating the candle lighting ceremony: "As you light the candle together, you symbolise the flame of your two individual selves joining together in the partnership of marriage. Two flames, shining in the same light. May the brightness of the flame of your love shine throughout your lives together. May it reassure you in times of darkness. May it warm you in times of cold. May it remind us today of those people we love who cannot be with us or are no-longer with us. And may the flame of your love always draw you together." It was an incredibly windy day and despite having a gas lighter and a spare, much smaller candle, we could not get the candle to light at this particular June wedding. But do you know what? It didn't matter. The sentiments of the ritual were clearly there in the words of my script.
