Arthurian non fiction recommendation list
I don't talk much about non fiction arthuriana because I usually don't read much of it but I have an immense love for some specific arthurian non fiction books.
I am not really interested in historical Arthur, but I love to see the evolution and addition of arthurian elements in literautre through time and space. For this reason, my absolute favorite is the series "The Arthur of the..."
Here are some:
Arthur of the Welsh (the one I always take with me! It has information of the triads, early Welsh texts and poems, Culhwch and Olwen and the Mabinogion arthurian texts)
Arthur of the French (in particular has a section about Arthur in modern French movies and fiction!)
Arthur of the Italians (this I did not check as I read the texts in Italian, but I know it has information on the Rustichello da Pisa text, the Tavola Ritonda and i Cantari, the ones with Gaia as a character)
Arthur of the Low Countries (one of my favorite because it has full summaries of some Dutch texts that are impossible to find in English like Walewein, Moriaen, Walewein ende Keye, Roel Zemel)
Arthur of the North (has some summaries of some really hard to find stuff arthurian like Ívens saga, Erex saga, Parcevals saga, various Nordic ballads, Hærra Ivan Leons riddare)
Arthur of the Germans (another good one! It has info on a bunch of German texts that are hard to find like Wigamur, various fragments, Tristan traditions)
Arthur of Medieval Latin literature (for the older stuff, like Geoffrey of Monmouth, Nennius and Life of Saints)
Arthur of the English (if you are really into Malory)
Arthur of the Iberians (I have not fully delved into this, but the chapters seem to be about the reception of arthurian matter in Spain and Portugal)
Basically, different authors tackle the arthurian traditions (more or less obscure) from different areas and time periods.
In general, if you like Welsh arthuriana anything written by Rachel Bromwich will be your friend, especially "Trioedd Ynys Prydein: The Triads of the Island of Britain".
For general information:
The Arthurian Name Dictionary (Bruce) - this used to be online, not anymore, but you can still access it through the archive here
The Arthurian companion (Phyllis Ann Karr)
The Oxford Guide to Arthurian Literature and Legend (Alan Lupack)
The Arthurian Encyclopedia (Lacy)
The Illustrated Encyclopaedia of Arthurian Legends (Coghlan)
If you are looking for more translated texts you can check here for free downloads, but if you would like books, here are some:
The Romance of Arthur: An Anthology of Medieval Texts in Translation (Wilhelm)
This book contains translations of:
Culhwch and Olwen Roman de Brut Brut Some Chretien de Troyes Some Parzival excerpts The saga of the mantle Beroul's Romance of Tristan Thomas of Britain's Romance of Tristan Lanval The Honeysuckle Cantare on the Death of Tristan Suite du Merlin Prose Merlin Sir Gawain and the Green Knight The Wedding of Sir Gawain and Dame Ragnelle De ortu Waluuanii nepotis Arthuri
The Book of Arthur: Lost Tales From the Round Table (Matthews John)
This book contains translations of:
(Celtic Tales) The Life of Merlin The Madness of Tristan The Adventures of the Eagle Boy The Adventures of Melora and Orlando The Story of the Crop-eared dog Visit of the Grey Ham The Story of Lanval
(Tales of Gawain) The rise of Gawain Gawain and the Carl of Carlisle The Wedding of Sir Gawain and Dame Ragnelle The adventures of Tarn Wathelyn The Mule without a bridle The knight of the Sword Gorlagros and Gawain
(Medieval texts) The knight of the parrot The vows of King Arthur and his Knights The fair unknown Arthur and Gorlagon Guingamor and Guerrehes The story of Meriadoc The story of Grisandole The Story of Perceval Sir Cleges The Boy and the Mantle The lay of Tyolet Jaufre The story of Lanzalet And some final notes

2018 VoicePlay summer activities — projects, planning, and the Philippines
Summer is often a time for fun and relaxation. For the VoicePlay guys, the summer of 2018 was largely a time of planning, rehearsing, and pursuing some individual projects. Though they did also do some significant travel.
.
Following a comfortably busy spring, they took the beginning of July as a time to rest a bit and work on other things.
"You're not going to start chasing me like Eli does, are you?"
.
J.None spent the Fourth performing with Paradigm at a local event, before zipping up to Virginia for his aunt's wedding.
instagram
J.None sings "Why I Love You" by Major. at his aunt's wedding reception.
.
When the weekend rolled around, the PattyCake guys took over a grocery store in a nearby town for an overnight video shoot with the ladies of 4Eva29 and a group of dad friends.
.
All aboard
The second week of July began with a flight to Puerto Rico so VoicePlay could board the Disney Fantasy and perform on the last third of its trip back to Florida.
When they were ashore once more, they released their epic Panic! at the Disco two-parter, which received a flood of attention. They then spent the rest of the month preparing for the coming months.
instagram
.
Up, up, and away
August kicked off with a trip up to the northeast, returning to New Jersey, where they'd received a warm reception the previous winter.
photos by Duane Smith and Leon King
Leon also posted a few short clips to his Instagram.
.
On your marks…
A week later, they convened at Rayne's Room to film three short music videos geared toward social media that they could release over the following weeks, as well as a promotional video for their upcoming concert with Rachel Potter in the Philippines.
Recording all of that in one sitting was apparently a little rough on their bass man, though.

.
Get set…
The first item from that marathon session they released was, of course, the announcement of their concert in Manila.
instagram
.
Go!!!
A few days later, they boarded their flight to The Philippines. Once they arrived, they had a little time to get acclimated, so they decided to visit The Dessert Museum and sample some local sweets.
.
The show itself went swimmingly, and the crowd had a grand time singing along with some of their best tunes. The only hitch was Geoff having to tough it out with a minor case of food poisoning.
.
The next day was the party with their hosts. They gave the tiny birthday girl a private preview backstage. (Scroll to the third slide.)
instagram
instagram
Carrot shenanigans will continue indefinitely.
.
The trip happened to coincide with Eli's birthday as well, so their hotel surprised him with a tasty treat for the occasion.
Some of the food might not have agreed with Geoff, but Earl clearly enjoyed himself more and found a new favorite dish.
After just a few days on the other side of the world, it was time to head home.
.
And for our next trick…
While the rest of VoicePlay recuperated from their globetrotting, Layne and Tony announced upcoming auditions for PattyCake's second scripted series, The Princess Academy.
.
Once they were well rested, VoicePlay hit the road again to kick off the main stage performances at the Woodstock Fair in Conncecticut. They were in a double header with Lee Rocker from the Stray Cats.

.
As the rest of the guys spent some more time at home, J.None headed over to Dallas to visit with friends. He even happened across a bonus pal from high school.
When he got back to Orlando, J was greeted in a brotherly fashion (by his fellow mischievous middle child Layne, of course).
instagram
.
Just a few months after VoicePlay had hit 300K subscribers on YouTube, they celebrated gaining twice as many followers on Facebook.
.
Here, there, and everywhere
Since they weren't returning to Disney World for the holiday season, the guys announced a much more reasonable tour schedule for the end of the year.
.
As the month hurtled toward its end, Layne and Tony gathered a cadre of their favorite Disney antagonists to film the first episode of their new Villains Lair series.
.
A couple days later, VoicePlay hopped up to Little Rock for the ACANSA Arts Festival at the University of Arkansas.
.
Over the ensuing weekend, J.None made another trip up to Virginia. In addition to visiting family, he also fit in a video shoot with his longtime friend Najee for their song "Dues".
.
Everybody scream!
VoicePlay closed out the summer by preparing for their favorite time of year with an elaborate music video shoot. After two long days of props, prosthetics, silliness, snacks, and hard work, the boys had the makings of a fantastic visual tale to accompany their wonderful singing.

This is my current text thread with my friend from high school, Mariposa. She lives in Miami. She had actually called me the day after my birthday, but the conversation was more of a way for her to tell me about her oldest son's mystery health issues and not really a conversation geared towards finding out about me.
She has no idea what's been going on in my life since 2017. I told her about my then upcoming fallopian tube/ ovary removal surgery and she never checked in on me afterwards. Then when hurricane Irma hit, she very poorly planned getting out of Miami. She intended to make it to Atlanta but only got as far as Orlando because she left too late. Mind you, the last text I had sent her at the time was about my surgery. She never even referred to it in her texts letting me know she was coming to GA to escape Irma and I didn't bring it up either.
While we've known each other for a long time, I don't really let her in on my life as a means of protecting myself from disappointment. She has no idea that my mom and sister are dead or that I needed further surgery. She'll eventually learn of it and when she asks why, that's when she can decide whether or not she's open to listening about why.
Unless she's backed in a corner, she can't ask for things directly. She's very non confrontational by her own admittance. She knows I am the opposite. I've called her out on this many times.
I do love her a bunch and this feels more like an aggravated sister relationship, honestly. It just drives me bonkers.
So, in the phone conversation, she started talking about how one of her friends listened to a podcast that interviewed some holistic doctor in Atlanta. She thought I mentioned going to one, and I confirmed it. I sent her the link to my doctor's practice and found that my doctor actually does free consultations, which I either forgot about or didn't know about. However, I didn't offer my house as a place for them to stay, which is what I know she wanted. With the not working thing and the need-to-get-the-drywall-from-the-leak-fixed thing and the not knowing how Unfriendly is going to be healing post COVID thing, we're not really in a position to host. Not right now. But since she hasn't been able to keep up with me and I haven't been letting her know, she has no idea why.
Another of our friends from high school who is uncomfortably close to his mom lives in Atlanta inside the perimeter. She can bug him. Oh and how close? He brought his mom as his date to her wedding and as he was sitting at the table during the reception he had his arm around his mom like a date 🤢
I don't think she knew how to respond to my intentionally vague text near the end. Interesting that she hasn't replied back to me yet.
History if anyone is curious and wants backstory but it only seems to open on tumblr via the web and not the app [x]
She has some unhinged emoji usage, right?
#mariposa#I thought about texting her about Eric dying because she did meet him and we all hung out a few times#she can definitely remind me what an ass he was and maybe I need that#or maybe I don't because I know how much of an ass he could be#but will she text me back without needing something from me?#we shall see!

Wedding Dresses in Florida: Finding the Perfect Dress for Your Big Day
Choosing the perfect wedding dress is one of the most significant decisions a bride will make for her big day. For brides planning their weddings in Florida, the vibrant, sunny backdrop and variety of venues offer unique opportunities to showcase stunning wedding attire. From elegant beachfront ceremonies to luxurious garden receptions, the Sunshine State has become a top destination for weddings, and with that comes an array of beautiful wedding dress options. This article will explore the best options and trends in wedding dresses for Florida brides and how to find the ideal dress for any Florida wedding venue.
Florida’s Unique Wedding Scene
Florida's wedding scene is diverse, offering everything from rustic barn settings in northern Florida to elegant ballroom weddings in cities like Miami, Tampa, or Orlando. Coastal destinations such as Naples, Key West, and Destin are perfect for beachfront nuptials, while scenic gardens and historic estates in places like Palm Beach or St. Augustine offer beautiful and intimate settings for more traditional ceremonies. This wide range of venues influences the type of wedding dress that brides should consider, making it important to align the dress with the wedding theme and location.
When choosing a wedding dress in Florida, there are several factors to consider, such as the state's warm climate, unpredictable weather, and unique landscape. Florida's beaches and tropical surroundings call for different dress styles than what might be worn in cooler or more formal locations.
Choosing the Right Fabric for Florida's Climate
Florida’s warm and humid climate is a key factor when selecting a wedding dress. Heavy fabrics can make it difficult to stay comfortable during outdoor ceremonies or photo sessions, especially in the summer months. Lightweight, breathable fabrics such as chiffon, organza, tulle, and silk are often the best choices for Florida brides who plan on spending any part of their wedding day outdoors.
For beach weddings, flowy, relaxed dresses made of chiffon or silk are not only comfortable but also create a romantic, airy look that complements the beach setting. Brides who opt for more traditional indoor venues, like a ballroom or chapel, may choose classic gowns with light tulle skirts or lace details. Many modern wedding dresses also incorporate lace bodices with soft, breathable fabrics, creating an elegant yet comfortable fit.
Brides should also consider dresses with short sleeves, sleeveless, or strapless designs, as these styles tend to be more comfortable in the Florida heat. For those planning fall or winter weddings, when the temperature is cooler, long-sleeved gowns in lightweight fabrics can still make a statement while providing a bit more coverage.
Beach Wedding Dresses: Effortless Elegance
Florida’s vast coastline makes it a popular destination for beach weddings. For a beach ceremony, brides typically lean toward wedding dresses that are simple, elegant, and easy to move in. Since many beach venues tend to be more casual, brides may opt for flowing, bohemian-style gowns with minimal embellishments. Gowns with simple A-line or sheath silhouettes are a popular choice, as they are easy to wear and walk in, even on sandy shores.
Beach wedding dresses often feature soft details like lace overlays, spaghetti straps, or low backs to maintain a casual yet sophisticated vibe. Some brides may even choose short dresses or tea-length gowns for a more carefree look, ideal for walking down a sandy aisle or dancing by the water during the reception. Pairing the dress with beach-friendly accessories, such as barefoot sandals or a floral crown, can help complete the coastal bridal look.
Dresses for Garden and Outdoor Weddings
Florida is home to many beautiful botanical gardens and outdoor venues, making garden weddings another popular choice. For a garden wedding, the bride can embrace a more romantic and whimsical style. A flowing gown with floral lace, light beading, or soft layers of tulle can complement the natural beauty of a garden venue.
Gowns with floral appliqués or nature-inspired elements often harmonize well with outdoor settings. Brides can also opt for gowns with fuller skirts or ballgowns that allow for more movement, creating a dramatic entrance as they walk down an outdoor aisle.
Brides should consider the time of year when choosing their garden wedding dress. During warmer months, lightweight materials are crucial to staying comfortable, while spring and fall weddings in Florida may offer cooler temperatures that allow for more intricate gowns with sleeves or longer trains.
Classic Dresses for Indoor and Formal Venues
For brides getting married in formal venues, such as grand hotels, historic estates, or elegant ballrooms in cities like Miami, Tampa, or Orlando, more traditional wedding dresses are often the go-to. Ballgowns, mermaid silhouettes, and dresses with cathedral trains offer a sense of grandeur and are ideal for a formal setting.
In these settings, classic wedding dress elements such as lace, satin, or heavier beading can be worn without worrying about outdoor elements like heat or sand. Structured dresses with a timeless feel often stand out in luxurious settings, allowing brides to embrace a more traditional or glamorous look.
Customizing Your Wedding Dress for a Florida Wedding
While brides may find their dream dress off the rack, customizing a wedding dress to fit their Florida wedding is another option to consider. Many bridal boutiques across Florida offer tailoring services that allow brides to modify their gowns for both comfort and style.
This may include adding or removing straps, adjusting the length of the train, or altering the neckline to suit the wedding theme or venue. For instance, a dress with a long, sweeping train can be altered to have a detachable train for ease during the reception. Brides may also opt to add accessories, such as belts, lace veils, or shawls, to match the wedding's overall aesthetic.
Finding the Perfect Bridal Boutique in Florida
Fortunately, Florida is home to numerous bridal boutiques that offer a wide selection of wedding dresses in Florida to fit every bride’s needs. From high-end designers to more affordable options, brides can find their ideal gown by visiting bridal salons in major cities like Miami, Orlando, or Tampa, or by exploring smaller boutique shops in beach towns and resort areas.
It is essential to start the wedding dress shopping process early. Many boutiques require appointments, and certain dresses may take several months to order and alter. Brides can also attend bridal expos and trunk shows across Florida to see the latest wedding dress trends and meet designers.

MY FIRST VISIT TO FLORIDA, January 1995, Palm Beach
Dad’s funeral, the whirlwind of seeing Rachel and Keelan for the first time in 12 years, absorbing the loss even as I felt no true grief for the man, only grief for a wound that would now never be healed, grief that my daughter lost a POTENTIAL actual grandfather—the last she had, staying in THAT HOUSE/MANSION IN PALM SPRINGS, Boz being shattered, Karina and Dorothy and Walter and their grief, the Ireland of it all being SO HEAVY, how warm and sunny it was even in late January, the High Catholicism funeral in the cathedral complete with incense and me (ME!) being asked to do a READING of some selected…scripture?—must’ve been, I can’t remember because honestly, it was all too much. Two days. Not enough yet too much all at once.
Yes I’m haunted but I’m feeling just fine
FLORIDA!!!
SECOND VISIT TO FLORIDA: April 1997, Orlando
With James, to Disney World and Universal Studios, Clay has a condo for us, surprise! Clay’s already there! I’ll pay for all the admission to everywhere if you just pay for your flight, DEAL!, being dependent on a cane, in constant pain while weight-bearing but my dr had not yet figured out what it was, seeing Rachel again under much better circumstances, light recreational drug use while partying with James and Clay and Rachel on whatever island that was, late at night, everybody drunk, we were drunk, Rachel and Clay hitting it off and dancing with a hundred other people VERY SUGGESTIVELY, and James’s subsequent meltdown over Clay wanting to be somehow sexual with A WOMAN and he’s a whore and on and on and then the next day sober acting like it never happened because nothing whatsoever happened between Rachel and Clay omg, going on all the rides before everybody else, no standing in line, because I was LITERALLY CANE DEPENDENT, the sensory overload, it was all 100% amazing and I was very sad to leave.
This was the first significant amount of time I got to hang with Rachel, and I fell in love. Sisters!
I have some regrets
I’ll bury them in
FLORIDA!!!
THIRD VISIT TO FLORIDA: November 1999, Palm Beach, Rachel’s wedding
Drunk, emotional, fabulous experience that felt like living through a hurricane. Of feelings! The Palm Beach Hotel, the spa at the PGA Gardens, the last day brunch on the beach when it was cloudy and drizzly and windy, the rehearsal dinner at that dope restaurant on Worth Avenue, the party at the Phippsberger’s with Inigo spraying tequila into my open mouth with a spray bottle and drunk driving golf carts around the estate, Boz in a cow suit (!!!), talking to Walter and getting some details about Dad’s childhood, feeling very Irish, very Butler heavy, Marie getting so hammered she fell down on the pavement (which, boy do I retroactively empathize with how bad that must’ve hurt), that chat with Jeannie about Dad omg, Miranda’s blossoming beauty that was definitely attractive to boys, the fun she had being a bridesmaid, her and Blanaid’s instant connection, that awful Patrick, getting high with Keelan at the reception in the tall hedges in front of Dad’s memorial tree, that friend of Dad’s who sat at our table and upon learning who I was, informed me that my father hadn’t been married prior to his marriage to Rachel’s mom, with such audacity and authority, my polite yet forceful recitation of the fact that I was, in fact, Jim’s oldest biological DAUGHTER and oh btw this girl next to me is his ONLY GRANDCHILD SO FAR, and him taking a moment to process, then saying ohhhhh, New York. Yeah, asshole, I thought. NEW YORK. After that he realized who we were, asked about Jay, and kissed our asses for hours. Hilarious. A fever dream. Joy and sorrow and gratitude and love all in one chaotic three-day weekend.
It’s one hell of a drug
FLORIDA!!!
FOURTH VISIT TO FLORIDA: March 2001, Daytona Bike Week
Wild veer between severely traumatic and utterly blissful. Met Lisa <3 Day. Loved her. Fran and Ron ditto. The other Ron, the one who gave us his cat before he retired. Waking and baking (except my husband.) Copious quantities of alcohol. Too much alcohol, as it turned out. The 10 pills, the hate in my heart for my husband, the ambulance, the ER, the coldness he displayed towards me for the rest of the trip despite knowing HE was the reason I kinda wanted to die and which he continued for a few days after we got home, as per usual. Passive-aggressive fuckery. One hell of a drug, charcoal is.
Tell me I’m despicable
Say it’s unforgivable
FLORIDA!!!
FIFTH VISIT TO FLORIDA: the very next month, April 2001
Orlando, West Palm, Palm Beach, Cocoa Beach, Julie and Sharon and Lisa Day (again!), in Cocoa Beach when the weather was so bad the wind was whipping the sand straight into our FACES, rendering sitting on the beach impossible (we joked it was free microdermabrasion to make us feel better that the one day we had all together was under such shitty weather), getting drunk instead and ordering takeout from Denny’s the next morning, hungover as fuck, Rachel and baby Liam, her husband basically ripping me off for $50 by taking my money to go get me weed, never to be heard from again), getting cafe con leches and Cuban sandwiches with Keelan, madness, escapism, all manner of substance abuse (just weed and alcohol, but some of the drinks and liquor store runs produced some increasingly complex cocktails), desperately delaying my return to real life, which was circling the drain back home, the dread was a physical thing I felt every single minute, but thankfully cell phones were limited, we didn’t have any, but still…and yet. Control was exerted and I submitted and went home strictly because I love my daughter.
So you pack your life away
Just to wait out the shitstorm back in Texas
FLORIDA!!!
And I’ve never been back. It all seems like a fever dream of colors and heightened emotions and hotel rooms and mansions and a hurricane with my name and me and my ghosts and laying to rest all the bodies that had been on my body and barricading myself in the bathroom with a bottle of wine, check, check, check.

The price range for photographers in Sydney can vary depending on the type of photography, the experience and reputation of the photographer, and the duration and location of the shoot. According to one source, prices typically range from $150 to $500 per hour for event photography. Another source suggests that freelance photographers charge around $80 per hour on average. However, these are only general estimates and you may need to contact the photographers directly to get a quote for your specific needs.

However, these are only general estimates and you may need to contact the photographers directly to get a quote for your specific needs.
What is Included in a Wedding Photography Package?
A wedding photography package can vary depending on the photographer and the client’s preferences, but generally it includes some or all of the following elements:
Photography coverage on the day: The duration and location of one or more photographers taking photographs on your wedding day. This can range from a few hours to a full day, and may cover different events such as the ceremony, the reception, and the portraits.
Photo editing and retouching: The process of enhancing and correcting the images taken by the photographer. This can include adjusting the exposure, contrast, color, sharpness, cropping, and removing any unwanted elements.
Digital and/or physical copies of the photos: The format and delivery method of the final images. This can include a USB drive, an online gallery, a DVD, or a hard drive with high-resolution files. Some photographers may also provide low-resolution files for social media sharing.
Printed photo album and/or prints: The physical products that showcase your wedding photos. This can include a custom-designed photo album, a photo book, a canvas print, or individual prints of various sizes and materials.
Pre-wedding and/or post-wedding shooting: The additional sessions that capture your relationship before or after the wedding day. This can include an engagement session, a bridal session, a trash-the-dress session, or an anniversary session.
Extra services and products: The optional add-ons that enhance your wedding photography experience. This can include a second shooter, a videographer, a photo booth, a slideshow, a thank-you card, or a wall art.
These are some of the common elements that you may find in a wedding photography package. However, each photographer may have different offerings and prices, so it’s important to communicate your expectations and budget with them before booking.
How Long Does it Take to Get the Photos After the Shoot
The time it takes to get your wedding photos back can vary depending on the photographer, the season, and the amount of editing involved. According to some sources, it usually takes anywhere from four to 12 weeks to receive your full set of wedding photos. However, some photographers may offer a sneak peek or a preview of some of the best photos within a few days or weeks after the wedding. You should ask your photographer about their turnaround time and delivery method before booking them. Do you have a preference for how you want to receive your photos?
