WARRIORS CORNERSTONE FACTIONS

Ready for another preview? This time, it’s Taylor, here, to talk about some of our site-specific factions. 

The goal of Warriors is to integrate game play between the vast variety of different spirits and canons in the superhero genre into one cohesive original universe. Though many factions and groups will be up to individual member creation and interpretation upon joining, we chose to build a few factions of our own to use as our cornerstones for world-building and subplots for the starting point of the site. These groups are AEGIS, The Champions, The Eireneans, LEGION, and The Veritas Order. 

Each cornerstone faction is described for you below, including a brief history and an approximate equivalent for reference. In most cases, these groups will accept a variety of members from different power levels and backgrounds, as long as the spirit in question is adapted appropriately to make them fit. Though we have an equivalent for reference, we’d like to stress again that these groups are meant to be welcoming to everyone regardless of the original inception of the character and their affiliations. Tie your villains into the intricate network of LEGION, take your obscure hero and apply to have them be a member of The Champions, and adapt non-Marvel mutants to join The Order or The Eireneans!

It is worth noting during our application process that these groups must be declared upon applying, or else members will have to pay a recruitment fee and go through the recruitment process, should they want to have a character join these groups at a later time. The recruitment process and fees will be explained in later previews. The exception is The Champions faction which requires the recruitment fee and process. For now, however, this fee is waived for the first 20 slots in order to establish a team for the site. The staff will be reviewing each Champion application heavily in the beginning to ensure that there’s a good mix of older/established and newer heroes for realistic gameplay.

AEGIS  is an elite, covert, global agency whose mission is to protect humanity from superhuman and extraterrestrial threats. THINK: Marvel's SHIELD.  AEGIS is an organization that has operated entirely in secret outside of any government since the 1950's and, rumor has it, that their genesis lies in the blood-soaked battlefields of Europe during World War II with the Allied forces. Rumor also has it that they had a hand in the creation of the famed US hero The Sentinel, the first ever bio-engineered super soldier. After the war ended, this organization was created to monitor and evaluate threats, and oftentimes take care of them by any means nescessary, to ensure that there was still a world left for the following day. It is no secret that over the years, AEGIS has slowly taken a terrible turn in their ethics despite their noble beginnings, but these people know better than most that sometimes sacrifices need to be made. The world is no longer freak experiments, spies, and terrorism. There are people from beyond this world. Aliens, magic-wielders, and even your own brother could contract or develop some kind of super powers any day. In the past decade, AEGIS has been especially interested and utilizing these extraordinary people to fill in the gaps of their security capabilities and was instrumental in creating The Champions as they exist today. In fact, they work closely with The Champions leadership to deal with threats and are constantly assessing new powered individuals to expand the ranks. This allegiance with the powered make some governments uneasy--especially considering AEGIS' already dark, bloody, reputation.

The Champions are the established superhero group of the board. They are currently the only recognized organized group of heroes within the city of Elysium and the world. THINK: The Avengers and The Justice League had a baby.  With the influx of powered and dangerous flooding into the world in the last 20 or so years, AEGIS proposed that they started using the good ones to keep the peace and fight off the threats where needed. As a result, The Champions Initiative began in 2010. Powered and gifted began being evaluated, recruited, and processed through AEGIS, deploying them as a response team where others stood no chance. The trial run out of AEGIS proved to be successful, and the team was granted permanent residence within Elysium itself two years later, along with rolling screening and processing of new individuals for the team. Such an experiment as yet to be replicated by another group of powered individuals, or any other city, earning them the title of premiere superhero group of the world. Besides the limelight and the opportunity to become a part of something that hasn't been done before also comes a lot of scrutiny from those who distrust powered people. But if you look at the number of apprehended supervillains and criminals they have put behind bars and whose operations they've stopped since they became operational, the good they've done seems to mostly outweigh the small inconveniences the nay-sayers can claim. The people love and admire them. Many want to be them. They've inspired even more powered people to come out of hiding in their normal lives and help make a difference in the world.

The Eireneans  are an organization comprised solely of mutants, whose mission is to aide their own kind and spread a message of empathy and acceptance of mutant-kind. THINK: Marvel's X-Men. The Eireneans are a small group of current and former students of mayor Andon Orlov who, on their missions, goes by the codename Oracle. Most of the time, these citizens of Athens, Connecticut, hold normal jobs and lives within the community. Some are teachers, doctors, students, shop owners, etc. However, they have been specially trained not only in the use of their powers but in other important abilities. Each member of the team was personally hand-selected by the Oracle to be a part of it. Their job is, most of the time, to retrieve new mutants that The Oracle has located, usually in dangerous or intolerant situations in their normal life. They also talk about bringing them, and potentially their family, to Athens where the child will be able to live freely in an accepting community that understands them and their mutations. They are very much prepped for battle in the case that they need to protect their home and their people as well.

LEGION  is an global terrorist organization who would like nothing more than to watch the world burn so they can create it in their image. THINK: Marvel's HYDRA.  This organization was AEGIS' sworn enemy back in World War II, when it was in conjunction with Nazi Germany. During the war LEGION's seemingly invincible leader, The Centurion, decided to remove his division from the power of Hitler, and used it as his own personal army to attack the allies and wreak havoc on the war front, while harboring ambitions of world domination. They were seemingly destroyed by the end of the war, thanks to the efforts of The Sentinel and his team. In reality, the organization simply consolidated its losses, and fled to the tumultuous Soviet Union. Former LEGION lieutenants lent their services to the Soviets under new names and in secret, they began to grow the LEGION once again with the knowledge they obtained and weaponry they helped develop. Unlike AEGIS, LEGION has no problem with using human experimentation, slaughter, or other inhumane means to accomplish their goals. In fact, they've even come to develop a superior brainwashing technique that they use frequently on enemy agents or assets they would like to keep under their control. They learned and adapted well in Russia, learning their deep-cover methods, and as a result, LEGION is world-reaching. In fact if anyone was aware of where to look, they would notice LEGION's grimy hands on dozens of world events that they have caused, or aided, in order to cause world-scale terror. Through the ever-growing fear and unrest across the globe, they are more powerful than ever.

The Veritas Order  is an organization comprised solely of mutants, whose mission is to bolster mutant-kind above their oppression as a superior race of humanity. THINK: Marvel's Brotherhood. The Veritas Order is a group comprised entirely of mutants bonded together in a shared desire to separate themselves from baseline humans and a general resentment for humanity. Born out of fear and their aggression, these mutants, above all, wish to be left alone to their own devices. Their leader is a highly charismatic man known for his incredibly powerful magnetic abilities, Tsar. They often consider themselves to be the crusaders for the oppressed mutants and welcome any of them into their arms. While not all are militant, these mutants certainly will take up arms if they feel it is necessary. Their numbers are great and grow by the day thanks to increasing paranoia regarding super-powered beings. They are currently just a whisper among governments, but have a strong base in Russia. They are now expanding to the United States as their leader, Nikolai Orlov, has brought it upon himself to liberate mutants worldwide from the tyranny of a race that they have far surpassed.
