It’s come to my attention that there’s a state of emergency amongst young people today; there are too many of us driven into loneliness and desperation for love... It drives some of us into dark places where the only thoughts are of pain and vengeance and malice.  I’m talking, if you haven’t already guessed, about the abundance of shootings that we’ve witnessed in this country in just the past four or five years-the tragic loss of life overwhelms me in ways that can only be because of love, which, ironically seems to be the motive for these violent acts. Currently i live in a small county just south of Santa Barbara where once such incident occurred- how terrifying and tragic it was to hear that the motive for the young man’s (younger than myself) pain stemmed from a desire and lack of love in his life.  Unfortunately, there are far too many political issues for people to truly focus on the heartbreaking reality within this humanity... WE ALL NEED LOVE!!

I am a college student and the recent community college shooting has especially shaken me.  If there is one message about love that I want this blog to share with all of you it’s that you are already loved and will continue to be loved from this moment forward; whenever, wherever, however, you are loved by someone-even if it is just me.  

You may not have the love or relationship that you want at the moment, the majority of us will search for a long time before we find someone who we can stand for long enough to commit to for life... But that should never lead you to such drastic measures as to hurt innocent people.  Violence does not breed love, it breeds pain and sorrow; if you wish to bring love into your personal orbit, be patient and positive.  

I want all of us to live and love for as long as possible because that’s why we’re here-people come into our lives to change us for the better and so we can positively effect them as well.  So, it’s time we put down the guns and put on a smile because there’s something that you should all know...

YOU ARE NOT ALONE!

No matter how unhappy, how depressed, how confused, how embarrassed, how self-conscious or how trapped you are feeling right now, there are ways out of the darkness.  Getting help, finding love, and talking about it are some of the best things you can do for yourself.  And give yourself permission to be a little selfish (I know that was one of the biggest hurdles for me when I finally sought out help for my depression) because healing your heart and mind should be a priority.  

We are all living this life, there is no need to hurt other people on your journey.  #inittogether
