Trust - Chapter 1

Summary: Since Deceit’s appeareance Virgil has been worried that he will use any of the others against him as well. 

Pairings: Platonic Moxiety and probably some mentions of Anxceit

Content Warnings: self-deprecation, negative thinking, mention of abusive friendship or relationship, manipulation from Deceit

Notes: Alright, this is my first fanfic ever so I don’t know if it will be good, I really have this idea in my head for a while and I finally am posting it, please don’t judge it that hard.… 

I hope you like it.

A week had passed since Deceit had revealed himself to Thomas, since that Virgil started to remember that time when he was one of them, that time with him came to his mind. And now Thomas knew that he existed, he even tried to take Patton’s place for a whole day.

Virgil couldn’t get it, why everyone acted so calm after that?

They were all normal, like if nothing happened. Roman, Logan, even Patton were happy and moving on from that, but not him, he was now more on guard than ever, looking at every place in the mind palace and checking on the others.

Roman was interrupted while performing in the middle of the theatre, Logan got annoyed some times when he forgot to put the books he moved back in it’s place and Patton… well, Patton was Patton.

It was morning again and after a while of being in his room he got out to meet everyone in the kitchen.

Logan was reading a book, sitting in the table with Roman, he didn’t even needed to got his sight out of the pages to knew that Virgil was there

“Hello, Virgil”

“Greetings, dark and stormy night” Roman greeted him with the theartical tone he used normally, at least this name wasn’t that bad than the others

“Now, Roman. Remember what we talked about the names?” Patton said from the kitcken, he was using an apron and had an spatula in his hand, obviously he was making breakfast since the other two didn’t know how to cook

“Hey kiddo! Did you had a good night?”

“Hey Pat, I guess I did”

He strangely wasn’t lying this time, that night was weirdly calm, he could say almost too calm for his like.

“Happy to hear that, Virge. Want some eggs and bacon?” The happy guy said lifting a pan with the said food, some oil fell into his arm but he just said “Ow!” and kept smilimg

“Sure” The anxious side answered with an small smile, he sat in the table with the others next to Logan because there was no way he will be next sir sing-a-lot.

He looked at Logan’s serious expression he usually had al the time, concentrating in the book which was strangely small for Logan’s liking

“What are you reading Lo?”

“The strange case of Dr.Jekyll and Mr. Hyde”

“Didn’t Thomas already knows the musical?”

“Yes, but the musical and the book have some differences I was curious about; for example, in the book there are not complicated and unnecesary romantic relationships for the protagonists, this is less of that love nonsense and more mystery and straight to the point.”

“Don’t you ever dare to call love a nonsense, Logan!” The prince said sounding ofended

“It was completely unnecesary! And how the book describes Hyde it could have been imposible to someone to fall in love with him!”

“Alright, we are doing this!”

Then the both sides started to argue. Yep, another normal day .

Patton set the plates and let the other two discuss, he smiled at Virgil when he gave him his plate which he began to eat.

Everything between them was quiet until Patton spoke

“Kiddo, are you alright?”

Virgil looked away from the plate and turned to face Patton

“Why are you asking?”

“It’s just that I’ve been noticing you have been more stressed than usual since De-” He thought carefully his words and changed them “The last video we made”

‘You are the only one who noticed it’  Virgil wanted to say but he didn’t wanted him to feel bad about it

“Look, it’s nothing. I just have the feeling that I need to be more alert now, that’s all”

“Well, I believe you kiddo, but I want you to know that if something is going on you can tell us everything, you can tell me.”

He smiles slightly when he says that

“Thanks Pat”

The moral side stood up and went in the middle of the others argument “Alright you two, what happened now?”

After breakfast the hours passed really fast, it was like any other day, but Virgil decided to calm down for a moment, He went to his room and put his headphones on, letting the music drive him away, then getting inside the bed sheets and looking through social media in his phone. This kept going for a while until he started to feel his eyelids heavier and he felt just tired; Sure it was kind of exhausting to keep an eye on the other sides for that much time, he slowly turned off the phone with the music still sounding in his headphones, eventually his eyes started to close.

He woke up slowly until he realized that what happened, then he jumped out of bed and looked at the clock

‘For how long I’ve been asleep?’

“Shit, I left everyone for hours” He said to himself, rubbing his face trying to feel awake, then a knock on the door made him jump because of the sudden sound

“Virgil? It’s me. I made some cookies, want some?” He heard the happy tone on Patton’s voice and calmed down

“Y-yeah, I’m coming"

He opened the door and saw his best friend giving him a big smile

“Hey Patton”

“That’s my name, don’t wear it out. Want one?” He said refering to the cookies

He smiled at the plate, they were already a little cold but he grabbed one and ate it. Suddenly he felt something wrong, these cookies were really bad, they felt too overcooked, there were like two chocolate chip per cookie and it tasted like he added salt instead of sugar. He tried to swallow it with some effort

“How are they?” The cheerful side smiled at him with enthusiasm of what his friend was going to say

“Well, these are...”

He didn’t had the courage do say it, usually

‘Patton is amazing making these, why are they so terrible?’ He said in his head.

He was so happy excpecting his words, he looked so adorable, he just couldn’t say ‘Dude, these are terrible’, that will broke his heart.

“Good as always”

“I’m happy you liked them!” He hugged Virgil while saying that, maybe a little too hard because Virgil wasn’t able to breathe that well

“D-dude, I can’t breathe”

“Oh, sorry Virge!” He let go of the hug immediatly, Vigil could swear he heard one of his ribs snap.

Roman passed by and say hi to the both

“Hey guys, want to watch a movie? I’ll let you pick this time if you come with us, sleeping beauty”

“Let’s watch Coraline and was I really that long asleep?”

“Not that much, I’m just messing with you. Are you coming, padre? I know this movie scares you because of the giant spider woman in the end”

“Of course I’ll come! I don’t fear a cartoon of a spider!”

Two things on the “something’s off” list Virgil had already in his mind

They sat in the couch, Logan was already waiting for them

“Let me guess, we are watching Coraline?”

Virgil nodded and the logical side put the dvd.

The movie was being great so far, Patton was watching it with Virgil, suddenly he grabbed his hand and smiled at him, he was kind of flattered because of the sudden affection but looked at him with a little smirk

“Do you guys remember when Thomas once saw an spider in the shower and screamed so loudly his neighbour came to the house?”

“I don’t quite remember that”

“You have to, you were so scared” Virgil laughed kindly and put an arm over his shoudler so he won’t think he was making fun of him

“Well, forget some things is part of adulthood”

Virgil looked at the side in shock, he didn’t wanted to think what his brain was trying to say, maybe he was just too anxious about the whole thing

“Don’t you mean ‘adultery’?” Logan said out of nowhere, getting away the chance of Virgil to ask the same

“That’s what I said”

“No, you said adulthood” Roman looked at him, raising slightly an eyebrow

“Oh, it looks that it finally sticked it to me!” Patton giggled

Virgil had already taken his arm off his shoulders, he tried to make up an excuse to get out of the room but he didn’t knew what to say

“I’m going to my room”

He ran away so he wasn’t able to listen to Roman trying to stop him

He closed the door and locked it, he lied on his bed, already breathing heavily but trying not to get more frightened than he already was

“Fuck, this can’t be happening. Why? why Patton again!?”

He was starting to panic, he grabbed his bedsheets tightly and tried to think how, when and why. He knew that was not Patton.

“How he was acting, the cookies should have gave me a hint, godammit! How did I didn’t noticed it earlier? Since when has this been happening?”

“Well” A voice interrupted Virgil’s out loud thoughts, he almost jumped out of bed

“Since you were so calmed these days I just used your fright at my favor”

He turned his head everywhere to find the dark side inside his room, he could hear his voice but couldn’t see him.

“Where are you, Deceit? There’s no point in hiding”

He was still looking at nowhere, his hands had turned into fists and was ready to defend himself

“You see, the point of it is the element of surprise”

Virgil didn’t knew that Deceit was already behind him, his yellow eye glowing in the darkness. 

He grabbed his hoodie and pushed him to the wall, he felt a pain in his back because of it. Virgil tried to strike a punch to his face but Deceit grabbed both of his wrists

“This was easier than I thought! you actually fell for it”

The guy with a yellow eye transformed into Patton in a second

“You just didn’t wanted to see your ‘happy pappy Patton’ sad becase of you, how sweet!”

Virgil struggled to move away from the dark side’s grasp

“You know, it’s funny when people like you dessperatly try to protect something and then they fail miserably just when they got distracted for a second” Looking at him laughing like a villain with Patton’s appeareance made Virgil sick, it made him shiver for a second but he stopped as soon as he noticed. He couldn’t show fear in front of him, he couldn’t show his weakness; He turned it into anger

“What do you want?” He almost spit his words

“Remember how happy we were together back then? you helped me a lot, we were always for each other”

“You used me, that wasn’t good at all, you and the others weren’t my family. Now I know people who actually don’t treat me like garbage and tell me that’s normal”

He was almost squeezing Virgil’s wrists at this point, Vrgil wanted to scream but he prefered not to if that means he’ll see an smirk on that face

“Answer me, already!” Virgil asked almost screaming because of the pain in his wrists.

“I want you to come back. Together we could take down the others and protect Thomas like it’s supposed to. Come on, for how long they have got in the way?mistreating you, not even listening to you. Imagine if all of that was gone forever”

‘Take down the others?’ Sure, Roman was annoying sometimes but he didn’t want that, they are his family now, without them his existence will be completely useless, he couldn’t do that to the people who loved him and gave him a place to be happy and be himself.

“No” He said without hesitation “What makes you think I’ll do that to the ones who love me the way I am for once. Maybe you were able to manipulate me back then but I won’t fall for that again!”

If looks could kill Virgil will be already burried underground, his eyes were almost looking through his soul. Finally Deceit let go of his wrists and he fell to the floor

“Fine, If you don’t want to do it the easy way I’ll do it the hard one” And after saying that, he sunk down, leaving Virgil alone.

He left Virgil shaking and kneeled on the floor

“Oh god, no, no, no. What have I done?”

He wasn’t sure exactly what Deceit was planing but if what he said wasn’t a lie, then all of them could be in danger. What if Patton is already gone? That thought made everything in the room look darker and smaller every second, he wasn’t feeling well, he couldn’t breathe, he was trying but it just made his thoughts get worse.

He won’t be able to do it, he will fail them. Why he didn’t knew that wasn’t Patton earlier?

“I’m sorry guys, I’m sorry Patton...”

He couldn’t help to cry, he was sobbing on the floor, trying to hold it like it was the only thing in the entire room, suddenly he heard someone knock the door and open it slightly

“Virgil? Are you okay, kiddo?”

He only could see the brown shoes and beige pants, he wasn’t able to look up, what if this was Deceit again? He just couldn’t be able to take it anymore.

Patton saw his face, his eyes were red, his hair was messy and he noticed that was having another panic attack so he ran to him and kneeled to be closer.

“Oh goodness! Are you okay?”

“How do I know you are real? The real Patton?”

Patton backed away, what was he talking about? What happened while he was helping Tho-

“Oh” He had realized what probaly happened. It hurted him so much to see Virgil that way, he tried to think of something to prove it was actually him, that he didn’t needed to be scared.

“Because only the real me would do this”

He hugged Virgil, he got scared for a second but it didn’t felt like Deceit’s hug, it was warm, soft and it felt really comforting, then he hummed a calming song, he remembered hearing it together one day and that's how he knew it was him, he hugged him back and after a few seconds he looked at his face, Patton smiled at him.

“I’m here, don’t worry”

Virgil hugged him again with all his force, the happy side was able to hear him sobbing in his soulder

“I thought you were gone, I thought Deceit did something to you. I-I’m so sorry, Dad”

He gave him slowly pats in his back

“Shhh, it’s okay, he is not here now, is he? And I’m right here! He didn’t hurted me at all”

“Then where were you?” He looked at him dissapointed. What was he doing that was more important than all the others?

“Well, Thomas was having some issues, since a friend’s birthday was getting close he didn’t knew what to give them and he needed me because I know about them the most. I’m so sorry to have left you like that, kid”

“N-no, I get it, you were busy...”

He let go of the hug and looked down, not wanting his best friend to see him like that

“Would you like to talk about what happened?”

Virgil thought about it, what if that puts Patton in danger? and who knows if Deceit will shut him up before even trying.

On the other hand, he will need some help

“No... but I need your help”

He wiped away his tears, looked at him directly in his eyes and grabbed his arms with a serious expression on his face.

“Deceit is planning to get rid of you all, I don’t know how, when or where but we need to be careful. I need you to help me talk to the others about this, you can make them feel less...scared about this and we could be prepared for what’s coming. Are you going to help me?

Patton smiled and grabbed his shoudlers as well

“I promise we will not let anyone get hurt”

Virgil smiled back

“I knew I could trust you”
