I saw your Beyonce/Taylor Swift post and What's wrong with "comparing two queens that are killing it". line? Isn't that what it comes down to with female artists? Why can't we just appreciate all female artists instead of the competitions?

I’m going to take this as you asking this question in good faith so here’s the short answer: No. There is nothing inherently wrong with that statement, and depending on the context, I agree with it. But here’s the long answer:

A lot of fandoms do take it upon themselves to start unnecessary, unprovoked beef between artists, especially female artists of color (i.e the Cardi and Nicki drama), consequently ruining the love a lot of people have for those artists. However, the Taylor and Beyoncè comparisons have a few problems I want to address that aren’t actually new when talking about female artists of color and their white counterparts. Firstly, the whole comparisons only started because of the uptick of insufferable swifties online discrediting all of the work, effort, and impact Beyoncé has had on people before and today (and Beyoncé fans are simply responding to these ridiculous claims). Secondly, swifties also have a strange tendency to compare her exclusively to objectively better black artists (Beyoncé, Prince, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, and more) by diminishing their work and influence in order to prop her up. Noticeable so, they never really do this with Taylor’s fellow white peers. It begs the question: Why do so many swifties feel the need to put Taylor on a pedestal by discrediting arguably more popular, influential black and queer artists? While I do agree with the notion that female artists should be celebrated and giving the props they deserve, we can no longer pretend that black artists like Beyoncé don’t have to give twice the effort, twice the dedication, twice the energy, and twice the style in order to be given their credit. Meanwhile, an artist like Taylor is rewarded and worshiped for her white mediocrity and performance activism, never really pressured to perform to the degree other black artists are expected to, or forced to show allyship when it really matters. So for her fans to degrade Beyoncé’s high quality vocals, performance, and production—which has been consistent and improving over the years—and be rightfully told off just to resort to the corny “let’s just celebrate all women” is, in my eyes, the epitome of white feminism.

Taylor’s fans have even admitted that she isn’t the best singer, only marketing herself as a good “songwriter”. Ok, so an artist that can’t sing that well, can’t dance, has easily replicable lyrics we could get from other Indie artists, and has a very specific demographic as her fans is someone to be considered a legend? How is this considered the standard but influential black legends’ work are downplayed and diminished? Why does it hurt swifties to see black women be given their credit? Why does Taylor have to be included in every conversation (I.e the Lizzo situation at the Grammy’s where Taylor Swift fans took Lizzo’s appreciation for Beyoncé as hatred for Taylor or Beyoncé’s success on the renaissance tour being overshadowed by the eras tour). And when called out on this, why do her stans resort back to the fake “just support all women” take?

It’s why I can’t really stand by that one post up here that states we shouldn’t debate over female artists because at the end of the day, “they’re all female artists subjected to the harsh lens of the patriarchy.” That statement ignores the intersectionality present in the topic of female artists’ treatment in the industry. It ignores how the expectations of white female artists more than often than not tend to be different for woc artists. I see the “let’s just all get along” saying as a way to deflect from the valid criticism and complaints people of color have for white artists like Taylor Swift. And considering how Taylor’s online brand is playing victim and being the poor innocent white girl whenever she is called out on something, the behavior her stans exhibit are nothing out of the ordinary.

In summary, I don’t think comparisons between female artists are needed. Especially female artists in entirely different genres of music and style. But I do know a lot white Taylor Swift fans love to play the racism card and then hide behind misogyny to cover their tracks. Once again, something Taylor herself does WELL.

There is a war between fucking hetlors and gaylors rn on stan twitter regarding Halie Torris' vigilante shit oil painting (which is literally perfect btw) and hetlors are mad as fuck that the painting is sexualizing taylor (?) I'm not gonna get into why this makes no sense at all because my fellow gaylors are doing this but let me just talk about the core problem here:

Swifties whether they're straight or queer most of them has this idea of Taylor being a "good girl" and I can't blame them because she tried to paint this picture of herself when she was young, and the way she used to dress and her songs not being explicit or talking about sex (I'm not saying it's wrong but most female artists rely on sexuality for a big part of their art (which is also not wrong at all)) so in their head taylor don't want to be 1% preceived as a sexual being, and while Taylor has changed that idea to the core so_it_goes.mp3 , i believe swifties still think that she's disgusted by being sexualized, it has nothing to do with homophobia in their mind but they have their idea of baby taylor and refuse to believe she's now a grown woman that has sung about sex, is starting to be comfortable in her own body and wants to feel and look sexy, and who's most of her fans are women so she knows she's not being sexualized to the core by them. Just because she's not stripping or singing explicitly about sex doesn't make her the virgin saint of the Vatican that you're not supposed to acknowledge her sexuality?

I'm also not going to talk about how female gaze is 180° different than male gaze but i might add that also part of the early queer experience is you also feel guilty when you sexualize another woman you feel like you're no different than a man when it isn't true but it's just another thing we get to feel guilty about because it's tied to society norms and that we need to learn that it isn't true by time and reading.

It’s so weird for me being a swiftie because how big the community is! Most other artists I love have an online community of the same few people on insta and twitter, and less than 500 people on reddit (some don’t even have a subreddit lol). Some of those artists regularly sell out arenas and have done stadiums, but their online community is non existent.

One of my favourite tweets of all time was when 1D released that song that sampled The Who (or ripped them off, can’t remember and don’t care enough to look lol) and people were comparing the songs, and directioners were BIG MAD about it because they thought the boys were being slandered. Someone tweeted something like ‘how can you say they copied the who when the who have never been a trending topic?’ It had a lot of RTs and support from fellow 1D stans 😂

I think about it every time I see fandoms saying something ridiculous like someone isn’t talented because they don’t have a fan club or a certain award or chart record, when those awards and charts didn’t exist when another act was in their prime lol.

It’s why I like coming to your blog and if I was bolder I’d come off anon, because everyone is very level (save for a few strays lol) and it feels like a small group chatting and not just talking into an abyss.

There’s a lot of competition in swiftie social media to be seen as the biggest fan and I think that’s part of why some are so unhinged. In smaller fandoms/ the same 10 people tweeting each other there’s no competition, just appreciation of the art and being hyped for tour and new videos, interviews etc. it’s so much nicer tbh. And there’s no ass kissing other fans to raise your own profile!

right I hate everybody online lmao like 99% of the time but not my anons lol and it’s because for the most part we are just into our weird little (or not so little because lbr most of us stan or at least like both Taylor and Harry who are just about as big as artists can be) things. Gaylors have it the hardest and we always get hated on the most but being a Kaylor fan makes it even harder. Why? Because to this day we can still find connections to Kaylor even in a year such as 2023. Ask again why? Because Taylor’s fandom is based on what has been Taylor’s public image since the very beginning and that is being linked with a man. That gives fandom a reason not to read into her art too deep. Ask again why? Because people who are afraid to express their opinion if it is different than general public’s opinion will rather let themselves be naively convinced that what general public is saying is what is probably right and go with it. Because if you slightly think there has to be something with all the queer themes in her art you are 1. delusional, 2. you are not her fan, 3. you are forcing her out of the closet, 4. you are forcing and pushing your sexuality on her and for that you will be getting cancelled,mass bullied even get death threats. So you will rather stay in the dark age and go with general public’s opinion because it is EASIER. Ask me again why? Because Karlie Kloss in the swiftie fandom has been portrayed as the most horrible human being to ever walk this earth and it is so IN and TRENDY to hate her every day, 24/7. It is how you gain your fellow twitter and tiktok and instagram friends and following for hating on Karlie Kloss. Because that is what the largest part of Taylor’s fandom does. And you would rather be “popular” than open minded.Kaylor fans have been fans for YEARS before most of the fans that harass us right now. Again why? Being a Kaylor is hard even amongst other gaylor fans because out there is also a big portion of queer fans who do not like the idea of Taylor and Karlie together. And these are just a few of the reasons we get bullied the most in the fandom because Kaylor at least to me still makes the most sense than all other theories and I am not humbling people who believe in Swiftgron or any other ship I am saying this in the nicest way possible. This is like a “pick your own hero” and go with it. I picked mine long time ago. I will stan Kaylor together or apart. I love Taylor Swift from the bottom of my heart on her own. I love Karlie Kloss from the bottom of my heart on her own too. My idea of the most beautiful love story is them together and if it’s not I will still keep supporting them regardless of them even being linked with each other again or not. They deserve to be remebered for all the beautiful legacy they will be one day leaving behind.

Taylor Swift Acceptance Speech - Tour of the Year Award | 2019 iHeartRad... @taylorswift Since I can’t say everything I want too on twitter, I’ll say it here. Out of all your tours, I’ve only been to one. The Reputation Stadium Tour. I remember your album coming out on November 10th, 2017. I couldn’t get it till the 12th which was my birthday. I remember going to the mall and heading to F.Y.E. (For Your Entertainment), a store that sells DVDs, CDs, Vinyls, etc. I remember going straight to the new releases shelf and seeing the album Reputation and grabbing it as fast as I possibly could. Once I held it, I felt pure happiness. I couldn’t wait to get it home and opened up and play it on my CD player. When I played the album, I absolutely fell in love with it. I swear that every single song is a bop. I remember telling my mom about the tour and she said I would have to ask my dad cause well he’s the one in the family that pays for stuff. He’s the money holder. I asked him and he said, “we’ll see.” A while later like May I believe I brought up the tour again and he decided we would go and he tried calling to buy the tickets but ended up doing it online. Well, I did. Haha Him and technology don’t mix. Haha I remember that night (this happened days after he tried over the phone) I got on ticketmaster to order the tickets. The time limit to ordering tickets kinda pissed me off cause you get like 10 minutes or less and I like to take my time making sure I got all the information right. First off when I ran out of time, I’m glad I did cause I made a mistake by only getting 1 seat but we needed 2 cause I wasn’t going to the concert alone so in a way, the time out thing was a blessing. I did it again and used my dad’s credit card to pay for the tickets. Fast forward to July 7th, 2018. I’m with my dad in the car driving to Columbus, Ohio for the Reputation Stadium Tour. My first concert ever. I never had a single thought that this tour was gonna be a disaster or a flop. I mean, come on, you’re Taylor Swift!!!!!! You got millions of fans around the world who would give up their life savings just to see you perform at least once. It felt like once we got to Columbus (2 hour drive from our house) and got the car parked, it felt like miles of walking to the stadium. lol But it was great cause for once I was part of a huge group walking towards a stadium that was holding a concert for a huge star that millions loved. It felt amazing. Plus, a fellow Swiftie walked by singing out loud “I Wish You Would” and I sang along. Normally, I would hate singing. It isn’t my thing and normally I don’t do it cause I sound bad and worry how people think. This time I couldn’t care less. I let myself go. I felt free. We got to the stadium and I could hear Charli singing. We got our tickets scanned and then got inside and once I saw inside the stadium, I was in love. The view was beautiful. We got to our seats and I recorded Charli and Camila and inside I was like, I wanna see Taylor!!!! Once you came out on stage, I screamed my lungs out. What a hell of an opening to a tour. You took my breath away. Plus, my favorite/stan song on the album “I Did Something Bad” was the BEST performance on the tour imo. I enjoyed every second and didn’t want it to end. I wanted to jam out to you all night. You made my first concert amazing and incredible and unforgettable. Plus, it meant a lot when you performed “You Belong With Me” cause that song made me a fan of yours. I’m so grateful that you performed that song at my first concert. It’s like you knew I was there. Thank you. The 2 hour drive to and from the concert was so worth the drive. I would do it all over and over again if I could. This entire caption proves that the Reputation Stadium Tour was a hit. It was fire. It was lit. You brought the house down. What more can I say??? You did amazing!!!!!! I don’t mean to be biased but every best tour award should go to you. You work so hard and put so much effort into everything. Every little detail. Congrats on the win!!!!! You deserve millions more of those awards and every award humanly possible. You guys. I have amazing news!!

So, since I graduated college I’ve been working in getting my supervision and everything to test for the LCSW, one of the highest peaks in my field of social work.

I’ve got terrible test anxiety and I was so so nervous. This week while I was studying, I would get really overwhelmed. But anytime it happened a Taylor song would play wherever I happened to be. Not just any songs, but ones I feel so connected to. I’d heard out of the woods and shake it off several times randomly this week.

This morning when I went to the test center, I was crying and panicked. I was waiting for my time to go in the building when I saw something moving by the door. I decided to wait so I didn’t cross paths with whatever it was.

Y’all. It was a FOX. In the middle of Lexington! It was so weird. Then it occurred to me, my Stan song is I know places. “They are the hunters, we are the foxes”.... so I looked up what this could mean. Apparently seeing a lone fox is a sign that a problem is about to be solved.

I swear it felt like @taylorswift was sending me good vibes all week. And I’m so SO happy to tell you all I passed my exam!!!! After 12 years of working for this goal.

I’m so grateful. To you fellow Swifties for your positive vibes and love. To Taylor for making music that carries me through my most challenging times. And to all of us for making a community so full of love and acceptance.
