it's 3:41 am, and I'm just sitting in my living room thinking about how glad I am that I met you. Thank you for being such a great person and a wonderful friend. Thank you for putting up with my dumb ramblings and my incoherent thoughts about fragments of stories and plots and about characters. I cannot wait until we get to hang out in person again, because it's been entirely too long. And as always, fuck the entire state of Pennsylvania.

I fucking love you and I thank my lucky clovers for you every single day. No, that’s not an exaggeration. Your friendship means the world to me. Thank you right back for always being in my corner and always listening to and supporting my wacky ideas. I truly can’t wait until we get to be in the same fucking room again either, because it really has been too fricking long.

law and luffy are just like. what if I saw you at the peak of your miracle working competence, and then the literal next time I saw you it was at your most isolated and broken. and what if that moment of seeing you alone and grieving and terrified was the moment where I decided you were someone worth keeping, someone who I personally cared about and wanted around. how does that not make you wanna lose your fucking mind.

and then the other thing on top of that which always gets me is the way that you can just so clearly see that neither of them has any idea how to fit this relationship into any preexisting context - Luffy calls him part of his crew, but law is the captain of his own crew and would clearly die before giving that up; law calls them allies but it is glaringly obvious that they care about each other in a way that goes beyond that. of course Luffy is generally a lot less bothered about this than law, who routinely wants to put his own head through a wall about it, but it’s just such a fun layer to their dynamic I think.

oh i wanted longlegs to be so much weirder than it was. it needed like three more script revisions and some deeper interrogation of the genre it sprang from, and someone to gently take the sound designer's hand on the volume dial and turn it down juuuuust a bit. i need the actual movie to be what scares me, not someone dropping a hammer on the piano to tell me i ought to be scared.

Reflecting on my previous post, it’s incredibly painful to acknowledge that despite their unwavering loyalty and love toward each other, Lemon and Tangerine were both left with the feeling of having let the other down at the most crucial moment. Tangerine died believing that he’d abandoned Lemon when he needed him most, and Lemon is forced to live on with the same belief, only the other way around.

And the maddening thing is that I’m convinced they would’ve survived had they stayed together.

Ladybug wouldn’t have had a chance to spike Lemon’s water. Because that was the crucial moment, wasn’t it?

At the end of the day, Tangerine didn’t die because he’d given Lemon his necklace and thus his luck or because Ladybug had taken him by surprise. He died because losing Lemon suddenly robbed him of everything he knew – his routine, his sense of security, his momentum. His purpose. He tried to keep himself together by going through the motions, by finishing the job – if for no other reason than to avenge Lemon. But he wasn’t in his right mind – he was confused and reeling from the pain of it all. And when he met the Prince, he made a mistake. He didn’t take his own advice – he didn’t shoot first and come up with the answers later. And, ultimately, that cost him his life.

Later, Lemon went through the motions in a somewhat similar way. He took part in slapping together a plan against the White Death but didn’t care enough to see it through. He jumped from the train, not caring if he died – maybe even certain that he would. When he didn’t, he focused on the only thing he could still actively do about Tangerine’s death – he took revenge by destroying the Diesel.

And then he was left with that. One half of a whole. And I keep wondering – where does one go from there?

When it’s good, it’s great. It’s wonderful. It’s someone telling you that they trust you with their secrets or someone trusting you not to get soap in their eyes when they bathe or trusting you whwn ypu say that you’ll catch them despite being a head shorter than them.

When it’s bad, it’s awful. Horrible. Tendonitis, rude parents, Mormon parents, someone manipulating your trust, feces all over the floor and the walls and you feel like you’ll neverbe clean again no matter how many times you scrub your skin to the point of pain because everything is dirty and you’re dirty and you can never be clean ever again for as long as you live but were you ever even clean in the first place or were you just disgusting and filthy and smelly and awful and you’ll never get clean never ever ever ever ever.

And sometimes it’s just boring. Sit on the couch staring at the ceiling. Everything at peace. Everyone doing their own thing. Everyone content with the silence or white noise.

I wish it was boring more often.
