my parents were born in the 1950’s and i grew up watching cary grant movies what can i say. i was 8 yrs old watching hitchcocks the birds

things i love about my dad:
he was born on january 1st, 1969
he genuinely loves florence and the machine, adele, and really, really weird edm.
he was born in preston, england and used to work at a supermarket store. apparently there was a jets v. sharks style rivalry between the supermarket stock boys and warehouse boys. yes they had mini gang wars. please imagine a bunch of english children in the seventies fighting in a knockoff tesco warehouse.
additionally, his parents used to send him to the corner store to buy cigarettes (perfectly normal for england in the 70s). he was thirteen before he started buying cigarettes himself and no one said anything because they thought they were for his parents.
at fifteen, he got drunk with his friends on new year’s eve and threw up on his friend’s rug. he then spent his sixteenth birthday (january first, 1985) getting chewed out by his mother for throwing up on said rug.
in an attempt not to swear around my sister and i when we were little, he would instead say ‘body chunks in a body sauce’ instead but he would say it in his preston accent and say ‘body’ like ‘boty’
when i (terrified) at age thirteen told him i might be bisexual, he told me how he hooked up with a man once in paris in the 90s. neither of us mentioned it again.
he works as neuroscientist for the government. on bring-your-kid-to-work-day, i used to just watch movies in his office. when i turned twelve, he decided it was time i did ‘real work’ and i went immediately from watching lady and the tramp on his government computer to viewing mice brain cells under a microscope.
similarly, on career day he brought a live brain to school and let everyone touch it.
he has a scar on his nose from when he had chicken pox as a child and his dog accidentally bit his face, knocking one of the pox marks off.
