AFO ZINE INTEREST CHECK RESPONSES

Thank you to everyone who responded! We appreciate the feedback and are currently planning how to organize the zine based on the answers we received. Now lets look at the results from the survey.

A total of 47 people responded to the survey as a whole

Our first question was: Are you interested in an AFO zine?

33 of you said you wanted to participate as a contributor. While approximately 13 of you said you would be interested in this seeing this zine be made, but you would not want to participate as a contributor. Meanwhile one person said they want to participate, but aren't sure if they have enough time.

Which we do understand if you're unsure if you'll be able to participate due to time constraints. We're not going to be super strict on the schedule and we'll be willing to work with you if you need extensions. We want to give as many of you as possible the chance to participate. So keep that in mind if you're still on the fence about this.

Our second question was: If you are interested in participating, what would you like to participate as?

We are happy with these results as with this amount of artists and writers we will be able to make a decent sized zine. So once again thank you all for your eagerness to participate. Mod applications will be going up very soon so those who are interested in being a mod please keep an eye out for that.

Our third question was: What would you like to see from this zine?

Many different responses for this question. Some of you didn't care as long as it had as much of AFO in it as possible, but others were more specific in what they wanted to see. So I will sum up the most common responses here.

As you can see there is a wide range of answers. Now to address some of these.

Meta Essays: We would be interested in having some meta essays to be in the zine. We want this to be a celebration of AFO's character as a whole so it would be nice to see some of you include your own analysis on him in the zine. It also gives a wider arrangement of content so that's also a bonus.

Dark/Horror theme: We've been thinking about going with this type of theme before we even posted the interested check so we're happy to see some of you like that idea. It would fit him well and would be fun to base the zine on. We'll release more info about this soon.

Angst/Fluff: We will welcome both of these things in the zine. We don't want it to be solely angst or fluff. A good mixture of both is our goal.

Headcanons: We will have a section where people can include their own headcanons about AFO.

Theories: Theories will be allowed in the meta section, so if you want to write about a theory you have about AFO then you can select the meta section when completing the contributor application form.

Manga Shots: Unfortunately we have decided not to include this. With the amount of potential contributors we have we do not feel it is necessary to include this though it isn't a bad idea. Thank you for the suggestion!

Arrangement of Zine: What we would like most in this zine is for there to be a wide coverage of AFO's life. From his childhood to his reign of terror to potato years etc. So there will be different sections for each which you can sign up for. We will have a list available of all the important events that happened to AFO that you can refer to if you're struggling to come up with an idea of what to do.

Dad for One: Preferably we will want as little DFO as possible, after all there was a zine already created dedicated to DFO. However, considering how big of an impact DFO has had on a lot of AFO fans we will allow some to discuss it in the headcanon section and only allow 1-2 pieces about it in the AU section. Keeping in mind that we do not want either of those sections to only be about DFO and want a variety of content there.

Merch: We are thinking about doing only digital merch. For example, sticker sheets and posters that you can print out if you want. We'll include a section where artists can sign up to create some if they want.

Ships: We have decided to keep our stance on not allowing ships to be included. Sorry to anyone this may disappoint!

I've been thinking about season 2 a lot and how certain character arcs might go/close.

First of all, I do not think we're getting a season 3. Don't get me wrong, I would love it but I think season 2 is the end of Loki's personal journey and as much as I love these characters, I'm fine with the team giving them happy, satisfying endings and shelving them for now.

The original ending of Season 1, before the team went "hey, we have some good stuff right here, let's give these characters another season to really explore them." was that Loki, now healed and changed, left the TVA behind and decided to go off on new adventures somewhere in the multiverse/different realms.

That was confirmed in the official artbook.

And Eric (the head writer for season 2) when asked about the original S1 ending once said that he didn't want to reveal too much because he might use it/some of it in the second season.

I think that season 2 will end with Loki and Sylvie going off somewhere together and Mobius taking over the new and reformed TVA. I think both of these things have already been hinted at in season 1 and it would make sense for their character progression.

Loki does not want to be alone. He made that very clear in season 1, however, he still got separated from the people he cared about - just so we could get season 2. I don't believe season 2 will be a repeat of S1's ending and force him into solitude/loneliness once again.

The show is all about breaking the cycle, can you change, can your fate be changed? And Lokis are supposed to be loners. It makes sense for our Loki to break that cycle of loneliness and finally, for once win.

Sylvie is another character who I can't see ending season 2 alone, especially knowing all the things that will happen in the upcoming season.

Sylvie has always only known loneliness, she said she never had anyone, never had anything except for the mission. That is until she met Loki and for a short while she experienced what's like to have someone in your life who cares about you. At the beginning of episode 5 it was revealed that her time with Loki was her only happy memory, which is devastating to think about. However, unlike Loki, she didn't have that same journey yet, she didn't have the opportunity yet to reflect on certain things, she didn't have the chance yet to forgive herself and grow past her trauma and grief. Which unfortunately led to the separation, but also fortunately gave us season 2.

Sylvie in season 2 is very depressed, very empty, very heartbroken. Her mission's completed but it came with a great cost - she has no goal and has lost her one chance of a happy life.

She's really, really going through it and is in a deep self loathing spiral.

I don't want to go into a spoilerish territory, but in season 2 Sylvie will have to confront her own darkness, a literal visual/external manifestation of her worst traits, of her worst future. The stubbornness, the pain, the guilt, loneliness... you name it.

Loki was able to change because of the people he surrounded himself with and because he saw his own future and realized how meaningless his life was and how much hurt he caused to the people who loved him.

Sylvie will go through a very similar journey.

In episode 5 Loki and Sylvie had a conversation about their plans about the future once this is all over. And I believe it foreshadows their eventual ending in season 2.

Loki: "What about you? What will you do when this is all over?" Sylvie: "I don't know." Loki: "I don't know either. Maybe... Maybe we could figure it out... together." Sylvie: "Maybe."

I think Loki and Sylvie will spend the majority of season 2 trying to fix what happened in episode 6 and trying to confront Sylvie's personal demons. If Sylvie continues on the path of loneliness and self loathing, nothing good will come out of it.

And Loki is aware of that.

It will be his influence that will change her life.

Tom said in 2021 that the story of Loki and Sylvie is about love, acceptance and forgiveness and also added "Love is really the only force that has any power to change things or people."

Sylvie still needs to change. She's in a rough spot right now, deep in self loathing and needs Loki's support to confront and forgive herself for everything that happened.

And once that's all behind them, once they're both healed and on the same page I think they will leave to go somewhere together. Maybe the season will be generous enough and actually tell us where they went. Maybe they found a safe place to stay on a specific timeline and they're living there now, maybe they just tells us that they're going on new adventures together, exploring the multiverse, enjoying the freedom and each other's company. Perhaps they're even travelling the multiverse to make sure everything is stable.

Regardless of what the motive is, they will stay together and 'figure things out' because now they finally have the opportunity to do that. They're reunited, they're healed, they're on the same page and open with their feelings for each other.

Mobius will go through a journey of his own as well. I reckon we will see his past life and I suspect we will be shown that he had a family which will be tough for him, because he knows he can never return to them anymore because his timeline had been erased.

I think that will be another driving force for him to put an end to the TVA that we know and with the help from other agents and friends, turn it into something better, something good.

Something that was already teased in the finale.

Mobius: "We can't take away people's free will, Ravonna. Do you not see that? Look, maybe we can build this into something better together."

I do not think the TVA will dismantle at the end of S2, especially since it's supposed to play a role in Deadpool 3. But I do believe that the TVA will be reformed and changed. They will no longer prune the timelines, they will no longer take away people's free will.

I think that from now on they will only keep making sure that the multiverse continues to thrive in harmony, that there are no people, no time travelers trying to disturb that peace or create issues in certain timelines.

And I think Mobius will become the new head of the TVA. He, like everyone else, cannot return to his timeline, and perhaps he doesn't even want to. Maybe he decided that his purpose is now to ensure the TVA remains good.

In fact, I think all agents will be given the option to either find a timeline for themselves or continue helping around at the TVA.

Maybe even Loki appoints Mobius as the new 'leader' of the TVA, because he knows and trusts him that he will do a good job.

I do think that Loki will remain on friendly terms with the TVA and perhaps it will be even implied that he will visit them from time to time and if necessary he can even come back to help them. But I do no think he's going to stay at the TVA for good.

Not just because Sylvie is probably hesitant (for a good reason) to stay there, but also because Loki doesn't seem like the person who could continue living there for the rest of his life.

So basically, I think Season 2 will end the TVA as we know it, further establish that it NEEDS to be changed, but that timelines also have to be free, find a way to (temporarily) stop the Kang issue (until it all blows up in Deadpool 3 again which then leads directly into the Kang Dynasty), Mobius will become the new head of the reformed TVA, Loki will have a straight up heroic arc in the season, helping the TVA, helping Sylvie, Sylvie will have to face her own demons and go through an epiphany, Loki and Sylvie will end the season together, going somewhere to figure out things together, and we will see the backstories of other notable variants.

we fucked around a little too hard and found out irilija might be parents so here's the result of that.

choosing a name wasn't so hard: ilija's family already had a tradition of every name starting with i and it just so happened that he had a child with someone whose name also starts with i so passing that on to their daughter didn't take any convincing. they decided to go with a croatian first name and igbo middle to represent both sides of her, then later on decided to add another middle name because why the fuck not ? that's how we end up with iva annuli renata filipović, second in line to the throne of croatia. one thing you need to know about this pregnancy is that they'll halle bailey the shit out of it. close friends and family will know, people will speculate and be almost sure about it but if you think for a second these two are gonna make a pregnancy announcement or anything of the sort you've lost your damn mind. not for shame of not being married yet or only being a couple for a bit over a year but they just don't wanna deal with the stress of it and are thinking of ways to protect the baby at all costs right now so the only confirmation anyone will get will be months after iva is born. maybe on their 2024 ig recap in december. you'll be sliding left and, would you look at that, a baby. both their parents freaked out with the news. ireti's far more than ilija's; although ivana wasn't very happy he was having a kid before getting married, at least someone was making sure the throne now has a direct line to it rather than make curves and circle back to distant relatives. there was still pressure to get them married quick before the world knew of the baby but this once they put their foot down and decided against it for the same reason they didn't tell the world: it was a lot of stress they had no interest in being under at the moment. iva grows up to be a lot more like ireti than ilija. she loves sports, she's a bit more reserved and picky with the people she surrounds herself with, she actually thinks before acting which results in her not being a complete idiot like her father. still, she owns his heart and soul. his biggest fear is that, her being so into sports like her mother (she'll play volleyball her entire life alright), she'll somehow follow in his family's footsteps and abdicate to be an athlete. that won't happen though, iva loves politics. she wants to be part of every meeting, even the ones ilija himself dreads. being a monarch is the main thing on her mind. araya and sol are the godmothers, we don't believe in godfathers in this household (i.e: they don't have any male friends).

a little bit after iva turns two irilija will realise that they actually enjoy this whole parenting thing and decide they want to do it again. and then comes ivan. they're very creative with the names, i know, his mother will be so happy with these istg. his isn't very different from hers: a croatian first name, an igbo middle, a third one just for vibes. ivan akunna paškal filipović. and, you guessed it, they're not about to tell the world about this pregnancy either. mind your business. the light skin energy in this dude is so strong i can hear him calling me babygirl from here, help. if iva is ireti, ivan is ilija entirely. this guy will befriend a door if the knocks are melodic enough and call that a conversation. he's outspoken, an extrovert, a party animal if you will, his main goal is to make sure everyone has a good time when he's around and that he exceeds at. but while his sister grows to have their dad's job, he'll take his mother's title and become the athlete of the family. he's a cycler and boy does he take it seriously. once he makes it there, you'll see him at the grand tour every year, i promise. he might not win but he's there. this kid's level of competitiveness is almost illegal: he's always trying to one-up iva in the stupidest of things. unfortunately for ivan, he always ends up losing and you have no idea how much he hates losing. but his sister's older, wiser, smarter and knows his tricks, he doesn't stand a chance. that doesn't stop him from challenging her every opportunity he finds though, he's annoying like that. mimi and yihwa are the godmothers (i'm telling you, not a male friend in sight).

I also have a friend going down the nursing path and she encourages me fully and is so excited and I love her and also she constantly tells me how every single nurse that knew she was going into nursing told her not to. Recently at my work we got a full renovation so we had construction workers in and there was this one guy I called Music Man Jake and he had Tons of batman tattoos (it might've just been 2 I don't remember) but I said "so you like batman?" And he said "yeah, y'know why? Because he can beat superman which means he's the best" and I was like no I don't think that's what that means I think they can both be beaten and said "yeah by who?" And I told him that I'm pretty sure there's like canon instances where Wonderwoman beat both of them and he told me that that was fake and I was lying.

i have finished the first raven cycle book and kinda started the second and something really sad happening definitely would fit the vibe so far, i wouldn’t say anything incredibly sad has really happened yet but there’s def the looming constant of something that’s supposed to happen at some point bc of psychic visions and all that. i started on the second book but haven’t really had a chance to read much of it however i’m heading back to my parents tomorrow so i’m gonna listen to more on the drive. i think my only complaint of the series is there’s so much concentrated Teenage Boy (and Teenage Rich Boy too) and it can be a little annoying at times bc like. the two rich boys. they have money. go to therapy. consider alternatives. think things through a little more. but even they are growing on me (one more slow than the other but it’s happening) but really it��s been fun to read so far!

okay ive now finished injustice year 5 & ground zero! i didnt make any notes this time bc i kinda was just powering thru year 5 and then i binged all of ground zero in one sitting. ground zero i just read the other night and was more enjoyable being told through harley's pov however god putting up with joker was very hard im glad harley finally was able to tell him no and also beat the shit out of him. her harley horde was so cute and i loved that for her. also seeing the alternate universe justice league (or as i called them, the REAL justice league) seeing MY diana again <333 and CLARK !! god i missed that ah shucks goofball. and i really loved the ending of harley and ivy going off to the alternate earth to help that version of harley overcome her attachment to the joker <3333 ALSO HARLEY IVY ARE ROMANTIC!!! LOVED THAT!!

i can’t remember what it’s from (i think it might be the justice league animated show??) but there’s definitely somewhere a bit where bruce is talking about his contingency plans if any of the core JL went rogue and he had these boxes full of said contingencies but he literally like made a point of showing that diana’s box is empty because she has no weakness. and that’s remained permanently burned into my brain ever since. i absolutely believe she is stronger than superman. in some/most(?) continuities she’s literally a demigoddess. clark’s just lucky bc earth’s sun is built different 😭. but yeah she did in fact very much kick clark’s ass in injustice and was only beaten in the fight bc sinestro attacked her from behind once she already had superman on his knees. so yeah. she can definitely beat superman. that’s my no 1 takeaway from injustice year four. (and then REAL diana being able to kick injustice diana’s ass tells me that real diana CAN ALSO kick superman’s ass should the need come) but yeah. i do really love wonder woman akshakbddjs

Good Morning, and welcome to Sunday!

Sunday seems to be the day where I yoga and write the most frequently the past few weeks. The past few weeks have just been …intense. 

I am infamously known for taking on WAY more than I can handle at once. I think this is due to me having to always juggle several things as a child(emotionally, physically…)  It's something I have learned that continues to be repeated and cycled through. Typically when burn out happens I have mental breakdowns, call off work, isolate, and unfortunately shut out everyone. Well , as one goes on a journey…they learn lessons. So the lesson I have learned with this, is being self aware when I'm overloaded. This can be work, personal, relationship, or family overload. This time it was just a “newness” overload.  New house, new state, new job(s), new relationship, new friends, new family experiences…etc. Just all the new things. 

A few months ago, I was extremely excited(the manic), and I was sooooo ready to get out of Wisconsin, that I didn't actually enjoy my last two weeks I was there- I sat there just counting the minutes before I graduated massage school, and the days before I left for Ohio. 

Well…here we are …in Ohio. Fully. 

I have always been one that adjusts to any certain situation pretty easily at first, then the routine/responsibility kicks in and I just keep moving through it as if nothing new has happened. I don't think I take enough time to really just understand what is going on around me. 

We(I) live in a very fast paced world, where information gets to you from across the world in nanoseconds. So, accepting all the new things in my life, has been a very “paced” acceptance. Now, don't get confused by my demeanor…im very happy with the new. I have waited long enough for the new….it's just a little overwhelming sometimes. 

Example: The new career I'm in-Massage Therapist in a chiropractic office, a Massage Therapist for a corporate spa(tbh, I never thought I would work here…but the benefits outweighed anything), the new house I live in(with my sister and her wife-three dogs, and three cats….along with my two cats- its all new, ) my new relationship- (he is a whole ass adult) I still dig it…it's just new. Even a month in, I'm still adjusting. 

Now, let's talk about an area of “limbo” that I DO NOT do well in at all……the gray area. The in-between: waiting for money to take the MBLEX exam, and waiting to get my license for Massage…the gray area sucks. I loathe it. This stems from me being inherently impatient( Im working on it- slowly.) It also stems from fear. Fear that I'm going to mess up so badly that all this new disappears. It’s also shitty when I have to watch all my friends get all their things first because they actually planned the financial part of the license…etc. I however; did not.  Moving ain't cheap yo.

Anywho, the new is overwhelming. 

So how do we fix it? We establish boundaries to our peace. So clearly working 6 days a week, in two different cities…40 miles apart….isn't the goal. So I regrouped…thought it out, and I am going to stick with a normal 5 day work week. I need that decompression time. That's MY time. I'm actually pretty proud of myself. I WAS self aware. I felt myself “turtling”, I took stock, reassessed, and made a change. I need my me time, I need my family and boyfriend time. 

Oh and speaking of the boyfriend. Yall, this one…this one has me by the heart strings. He is there when I don't even know I need him to be there. He supports and motivates me to just breathe once in a while. He tells me it's okay when I'm overloaded with all the new.

If I could just live in our bubble I'd be a happy camper. Our bubble is where I am completely safe. What an incredible feeling. It's really nice to be taken care of by a man emotionally. I will tell you this- he is the first one…I've actually allowed to take care of me. Not the other way around. I also don't fight it anymore. Hyper-independence is a trauma response. I wasn't a fan of a man doing anything for me…period…I thought they would think I was weak, and unable to manage on my own. But now, shoooooot!  He wants to buy me dinner- go for it. He wants to give me an extra long hug in a parking lot, go for it. He wants to take me to lighthouses- go for it.

Take care of me baby. I'm okay with it now, and I'm so here for all of it.  Thank you for just being you. Everyday.

The new is great. It's overwhelming. I couldn't do it without my family and my boyfriend - for real. I need them all. Ha! Yeah, I need them. I need people in my life now. Maybe I needed people the entire time….I just wasn't ready. I'm ready now.

Word of advice: Take stock of your own boundaries and include your time. Time is something you don't get back and it tends to slip by very quickly.

Actually i initially wanted to catch up with chainsaw man manga because I found many djs with Yoshida and got interested in knowing what was all the fuss abt. Unfortunately, 100+ chapters later we still don't know much abt him. He's this cheeky handsome devil hunter high-school student with the tentacles and that's it, usually he's creepy but sometimes he can get annoyed and irritated. I thought yes he looks cool and is fun, but ugh not the most entertaining fights, he also didn't hold that big or relevent of a role in the story as a whole , you'd expect more from a guy that looks like him.

But what's interesting about him is what he could be hiding and I have sooo many theories, I hope he'd atleast live up to some of my expectations and is given more importance in the plot.

For my theories, first of all, I wonder what he is, the aging devil called him a human so he could be just a highly trained dude with a contract to a tentacle devil, right? But what if he was the tentacle devil, which would explain how he got swallowed and later puked by Denji? He could also have a different type of link to a devil like Denji and Asa, which is yet to be revealed and I'm looking forward to that (even if he didn't have such a thing I'd just want the matter clarified, there's sm blurriness surrounding the subject).

Besides his connection to the other world, I also wanna know what got him I to the field of demon hunting, he doesn't strikes me as the type to be driven by justice and other principles. He could have been raised by some special people or organization, have a precise goal behind doing all this hunting jobs. Idk but for me his job of watching over Denji (especially when it becomes pretty cruel) doesn't seem to please him very much, he even seems pained at times, which compels me to think that maybe he is held down by a strong motive/power, it could be your usual 'healing/saving that one family member' or 'protecting his own life'. (following my first point, he could another fiend who could be put down if he goes out of line) Idm the idea that he's just in it for the money, and comes from a pretty random background and does this for fun or some trivial reason, it'd still be badass.

Many ppl noted the visible shift in his attitude after getting puked by Denji, there's endless possibilities to why it'd happen, we can't know for sure, but I like to think this means in the human realm he's restricted for one reason or another, he could also be watched over. This particular idea is very reccuring in my mind, because while we see him complying with the association'a orders, making him the bad guy in many scenes with Denji, I constantly feel like he's conflicted about it and has no hand in anything, he could be sincere in his words when he says that he can only help Denji if he follows through his orders, then again he could be a complete liar.

While there's many hints that Yoshida could be controlled and not a full master of his actions (like many people in the association), there's the opposite idea of him actually being a mastermind in desguise that is also pretty interesting.

I'm excited for the next csm chapter, would love to see more of Yoshida, he's such a mysterious guy, like where did he come from (the hc that Kishibe is his dad cracks me up lol) what is he? I don't wanna get too attached to him because damn this Manga gave me trust issues, but I wanna study him under a microscope and look into his brain, figure him out kinda vibe.

ahh thank you so much, you're so sweet!! i think my favorite Steve Quality is the way he's always ready to put his own safety to the side in favor of helping and protecting others. i mean i love everything about him i love how goofy and sarcastic and dramatic he is etc. etc. but what really gets to me is just the fact that after he makes that decision to help nancy and jonathan fight the demogorgon in s1, he never really hesitates to do what's right. like he just decided that he can't let anything happen to the people around him and he's not even gonna fuck around about it he's gonna do whatever he can!! in s3 especially it fucks me up that he was SAFE he was away from the mall and he had every reason to stay on the hill with erica and dustin but he didn't!! he heard that the group at the mall was in trouble and his immediate response was to drive right back toward that danger, without any weapons or anything, having already been beaten to shit and drugged that night... god. that's my man.

in terms of characters i want him to interact with, you already listed the obvious (robin and max). i actually kinda want less interaction between him and dustin this season, as i feel we kinda have... enough. sjdnkm. i'd really like to see him and lucas interacting more, especially if the speculation about lucas being involved in some Jock Plot this season ends up being true. i also really want to see him interacting with eddie, because 1. eddie is new and i'm intrigued, 2. they seem very different and i think seeing them interact could be really fun, and 3. steve literally only has one friend his own age pls let him have another friend. he needs it he's pathetic. unfortunately i don't think odds are good of him interacting with hopper/mike/el/joyce/jonathan bc of locations which sucks because he's barely interacted with them and i just KNOW the dynamics could be good.

as for my hopes re: his s4 plot, i'm gonna put that beneath the cut bc there are spoilers from the paparazzi set pics lol

i think his s4 plotline is likely going to be a continuation of the stuff they brought up in s3 about him struggling to find his place after graduating high school. so far we know that the s4 plot has steve investigating the creel house with the whole remaining hawkins crew, and he seemed to be taking the lead in the few short clips we got (breaking into the house and entering first, assuming the danger if there's anything inside). we also know that there'll be some sort of satanic panic witch hunt targeting eddie. the fact that steve is wearing eddie's vest after having been injured makes me think that he and eddie will have some kind of significant relationship, not necessarily as friends but possibly as foils. my personal theory is that steve's s4 plot will be about him finally letting go of his desire to fit in and live up to his father's expectations, possibly identifying some passion or goal he has in life, and eddie's status as an unapologetic outsider/"weirdo" will play some part in this arc. thus, steve wearing eddie's vest toward the end of the season in intentional contrast to the pastels and polo shirts we see him sporting in other spoiler pics. my hope is that he ends the season in a situation that's somehow quite different to how he started; maybe having moved out of his parents' house, attending community college, or engaging with something he's passionate about. the way he's literally the oldest character left in hawkins + his injuries in the spoiler pics + his behavior in the teasers leads me to believe that he'll be taking on a lot of responsibility to protect everyone this season, and i think that through this assumption of responsibility and interacting with eddie, steve will come to a realization that he doesn't really need or want his father's approval, and he's an adult now who can live his own life.

Ohhhh dear, I don't know if you signed up for a lenghty answer but- I have one.

First off, thank you so much for considering me knowledgeable on the matter, I hope this can help shine some light on the question at hand.

You know how much I love DISCLAIMERS: This answer is by NO MEANS a definite answer to the question, I am simply answering from my very own experience and education in the matter.

OKAY so if someone were to come up to me and say Hey Marinette, I'm thinking about diving into BDSM, any advice?

I would probably tackle a few points.

How well do you consider you know yourself in every matter.

Independently of whether you're diving into the sexy parts of BDSM or not, you must understand yourself wholeheartedly, mentally, physically, emotionally and even spiritually. You must be aware of your limits when it comes to other people and yourself. I would also advise you know your contextual being and environment just to be safer, kinda test out the waters without involving yourself by asking around, how the bdsm community has developed in your area (sometimes you'll come to find that values and goals may differ from what you're looking for)

2. Be of age.

I believe it is a given, but looking back, I would truly advise for you to at least be 21 years old before you decide to venture in the scene. I was 18 when I first started out, and I can tell you it most definitely fucked up the way I relate with other people, as much as we think we are balanced within, being mature or what not, truth is, some things are organic and developmental according to your life experiences, there's no need to rush into things as you'll get to experience things as they're meant to be.

3. Develop a trusty circle of friends.

Unfortunately, bdsm is still regarded as something taboo in most parts, so it might sound a bit difficult to set yourself up with a few friends that know about your practices, just in case anything were to happen, they don't have to be part of the scene, just respect it as such.

Now, I'm probably not the best example out there when it comes to my bdsm experience but it is indeed a learning experience.

I never really dived into the sexy experience of bdsm outside of trusted partners with whom I had an emotional relationship status with, BUT I used to be a findom in the scene across the globe.

As much as I would love to go into much detail, I literally can't BUT hired professional findoms aren't that common so I was on top of my game up until covid hit and I lost most of my income.

I started when I was 18 as a sub with one of my ex-boyfriends, it was- excruciatingly horrible if I'm being honest, when he and I broke up, I started hooking up with men and looking back as to the reasons why they loved being with me, it is absolutely gross and it is one of the reasons as to why I am not that attracted to the smexy side of bdsm. ANYWAYS, when I turned 20 I started being openly queer, I often sub-ed for women and I started dom-ing for men. Things happened, word got around, I started dom-ing for much older men than me, up to the point where at 21 a person I usually sub-ed for suggested I tried out being a findom, so I did, at 22 I "retired" for mental health reasons as I found myself in the middle of a horrible breakup, stuck in a foreign country, potentially being a findom to 5 regular men (and the tax authorities on my ass for the dumbest reason–a story for another occasion)

As for the dangers... well, at the end of the day the scene is all about trust. There is always going to be some sort of power dynamic in between, and although we are aware of it, bdsm is meant to serve as a relief of sorts, we are only responsible for our own actions, so there is always going to be the doubt of will x person be as knowledgeable on the matter as I am? Are they understanding the same bdsm principles as I am? Are we both on the same page? Are our levels of involvement similar to each other? Some people dive into bdsm with their partners as something fun, spicy and whatnot, without really thinking about making the most of it, just as an addition to their already existing relationship and interaction, to some of us, it is more about the psychological aspects that bdsm comes with, to others it's a relief method, so as long as you make sure you're practising it responsibly in equal feet, it should be good.

Unfortunately, being queer is also a danger for the most part, I am not so sure about the differences when it comes to different practices but at least on my part, I was a queer female-presenting person, so there was a lot of forcing femininity from people that I didn't get involved with but knew of and had to interact with, some belittling and things of the sort.

1. finish Trust is Earned

so this is a two in one, because i need to finish this, but i also need to learn from it: never plan a beginning and an ending for a fic and then just dive in. i need structure!! i need plot!! and yet here i am, without either!! as much as i love writing fluff i cannot write multi chap fluff, i am directionless. but i will finish it!!! i originally told myself i'd do it in time for christmas, but that's not going to happen. 2022 it is.

2. finish and publish my regulus black redemption fic

so this one i am excited about. i have learned from past mistakes and have planned the entire thing, every single chapter, but it means so much to me that i'm worried i'll be writing and re-writing and editing forever and just never post. i've never read anything reg focused/centric and it's all very new but i already love it so much and i'm hoping it'll be my best so far. just need to take the plunge! i have decided i will do it today. promise.

3. read non-wolfstar fic

so my issue is that i have a lot of problems with focusing and attention. i love fanfiction! it completely made my life during lockdown when i was in a situation (that i'm unfortunately still in) where i can't watch any tv or films because my mind just can't focus for long enough. imagine lockdown but without netflix or disney+ or anything - that was basically me. subscriptions to every streaming service out there but no brain that will let me watch, i was genuinely just lying in bed every day staring at the ceiling lol. then something or other got me onto ao3 and i've always been a wolfstar fan in concept but never in practice but next thing i know i'm hooked, and i've finally found entertainment my brain is happy with!!! but now i'm seeing all these talented writers with so much to give and i really want to branch out and read something else so i can appreciate them fully but i need a good introduction to trick my brain into caring about something other than wolfstar. i would really love some fic recommendations for non-wolfstar HP ships (and preferably not remus or sirius because wolfstar are endgame) fic that is short/semi short that you think showcases the characters or pairing and could kickstart my interest - please please please!!!!!!!

i honestly think i've only had tumblr for about a month which is insane. i had it when i was a teenager (makes me sound so old, i am still in my 20s ok leave me alone) - this super angsty depressing black and white blog. i'd love to find it but i can't remember my url and i don't have access to my old email :( but anyway, i've not hopped on here for long, but i am so glad i did, because it's great, but i am so out of the loop. so my plan for 2022 is to interact more and get to know everyone (lame)

5. write more!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Meeting With a Stranger is honest to god the first thing i've ever written. it all started after many bottles of wine with two of my greatest friends. we were talking about ff and how we'd love to write, but didn't have the stones to/didn't have anything to say. (they're completely different fandoms - V is all about supernatural (destiel!) and L is a huge k-pop fan (loves BTS)) and i was saying how i'd love to beta work but could never write because my brain was empty of plot. then it got me thinking, and then the first MWaS scene with remus and james came into my mind, and then i would think of some stupid/funny line and be like haha sounds like something remus would do, and then boom, i'm writing a whole ass fic, and the rest is history.

i have a doc with prompts and inspos and scenes that i would to build on, mostly oneshots (i love writing fluffy oneshots so much) including a christmas wolfstar that i'm going to try and write next week and my reggie redemption fic eek! so i think this one will be my easiest goal only because now i've started, i canny stop

6. beta fics

i want to beta fics!!!!!!! in reality i want to live out my secret dream job of being an editor. i've never beta'd a fic and i'm not sure what the level of involvement is but it's something i really want to start in '22 so... if anyone is in need of a beta hit me up in 2022 :D

Kyubin is Aries, which is a really interesting combo with his earth placements. So these are face paced, quick thinkers, small attention span, doesnt fully think things through. Like intellectual depth in others. Unique ideas, spontaneous. Can be too blunt. (I feel like a lot of these are calmed down because of the earths. I think this brash spontaneity would mostly show itself in his thoughts and words rather than actions)

Mars: honestly a really good match, yoojung having many things at once while kb goes with the flow is perfect. Neither one argumentative. Emily VanCamp On Reprising Her Role As Sharon Carter And Those Power Broker Theories

Sharon Carter’s dark, bitter, and vengeful return in ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ could mean many things—or nothing at all.

You’re always one decision away from a totally different life, and that rule applies doubly in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A simple choice in the heat of the moment can have grave consequences for our beloved heroes; Peter Quill punching Thanos just as Iron Man and Spider-Man almost pull the Infinity gauntlet off the villain’s hand is a hotly debated Twitter topic every other week. The current Marvel conflict on everyone’s tongue? Why on Earth is Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp) an enemy of the state, when the Avenger who got her in this mess in the first place is roaming his past life worry-free?

Last we saw Sharon, she was the wide-eyed, determined Agent 13 of S.H.I.E.L.D. and a CIA operative whose loyalty to Steve Rogers/Captain America (Chris Evans) prompted her to defy the Sokovia Accords and steal Cap’s shield and Falcon’s wings from the government. Her allegiance to Steve landed her a kiss from the Avenger but not without controversy: Sharon is the grandniece of Peggy Carter, Steve’s true love and the woman he traveled back in time to be with at the end of Endgame. Sharon’s blink-and-you’ll-miss-it romance with Steve was just as short-lived as her residence in the MCU timeline, but thanks to the newest Disney+ series, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Sharon gets a second life—just not the one the former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent envisioned.

When we meet Sharon in episode 3, titled “Power Broker,” the glow of the woman who longed to live up to her grand-aunt’s accomplishments is eclipsed by a dark cloud. She’s traded in her button-up shirts for hoodies and operates as an art thief out of a sprawling mansion in the eerie fictional town of Madripoor. She hasn’t spoken to her family members in months. When Sam reminds her he was also on the run, she reminds him, “Was. Is. Big difference.” She’s cynical, bitter, and vengeful, which apparently turned her into a stone-cold killer. She murders three bounty hunters with a steel bar and darts a knife into the shoulder of another. Sharon Carter is long gone, her one driving force the desire to be pardoned. Who is this new person? Well, Marvel devotees have their theories. Ahead, Emily VanCamp talks reprising her role as Sharon Carter, those Power Broker theories, and more.

Let’s go back to your Marvel introduction. What qualities initially drew you to the character of Sharon Carter?

I loved her dedication and devotion to Cap [and] to the cause. She was in this bloodline of agents, and this kick-ass woman who was a little bit more idealistic at the time. Now some of those qualities have been stripped away, unfortunately, based on her circumstances and the sacrifices she made. She’s wondering whether or not it was all worth it. She feels abandoned.

Knowing what she knows now, especially with Cap out of the MCU timeline, do you think Sharon would have made a different choice in Civil War?

I don’t think so. One of the things I love about her is her integrity. And to her, that’s what she believed in and that’s what she thought was the right thing to do. So I think it’s less about Steve and more about her devotion to the cause at that time. No, I don’t think she would go back and do anything differently. Do I think that the character would have liked a little bit of help, with all these other characters being pardoned, and she’s just sort of been left on the run as this fugitive? Yeah, I think her reaction to it would have changed. But I don't think she would have changed her choices.

At the end of Avengers: Endgame, Sam and Bucky were able to get closure from Captain America. Do you ever wonder what closure would look like for Sharon, had she had the opportunity?

I’m sure she would have wanted that, but I think that she's moved on from that. Now she just wants to be pardoned to get her life back. That ship has sailed in so many ways for Sharon, and we don't even really address [Steve and her] in the show. It’s so much more about where she is now and how to move forward and make that deal with Sam: Listen, I’ll help you out if you can get me out of here. [Sam and Bucky] are on this mission and she's reluctantly helping them, and that’s what the dynamic is now. Does she want to? Probably not. But is it her ticket out? Probably.

What did you have to understand about her mindset now in order to play her in this new phase?

I think it was just important for me, one, that we address all this time that’s passed and kind of discuss, “Where has she been? What has she been doing?” And we talk about it a little bit in episode 3, that she’s been hustling and dealing in stolen art and living in Madripoor. You get the sense that things have not been easy on Sharon. And she’s definitely made her way and she’s thrived in this environment, but it’s not an environment she would have chosen. She was sort of, in her mind, left behind, so there’s a chip on her shoulder that I think it would be really hard to get rid of at this point. And she even says at one point, “The superhero thing is a joke.” She’s definitely lost that kind of idealistic, young agent mind.

How did you prepare for that change in her?

I think it’s great to dig a little bit deeper into all these characters and their perspectives. And with Sharon, it’s so much about her resentment and her tenacity. She’s thrived in this new environment, even though it’s not ideal. So that’s something that’s carried through in her personality. She didn’t lose that. But I think just her goals, her thoughts have just changed.

What is a Marvel training session like? Sharon killed so many bounty hunters by herself.

It was months of prepping even for that sequence in episode 3. Sharon doesn’t have superpowers, so everything is just with her bare hands. We wanted it to look as gritty and raw and real as possible, so we trained a lot. Every day that I wasn’t shooting Falcon or The Resident, I was in that training center going over choreography, doing the footwork, doing boxing, doing jujitsu, all the things that I need to do to prep my body and mind for those sequences. You hope that when you get there to shoot it, that muscle memory and that adrenaline kicks in, and off you go. But Marvel is amazing at preparing you for those moments. I was welcomed to go and train every moment I could, and I did. But to have that available is just such a gift, especially when you've got a sequence like that, where you can't really hide from anything. It’s just you.

Sharon’s dark return reminded me of your Revenge character Emily Thorne. Do you prefer these darker roles over characters like Nicolette in the soapy drama The Resident?

They’re all so different. I think that’s part of what I like—just embodying totally different characters. Revisiting Sharon was very cool because we get to see her, as you said, in this totally different light. I don’t have any sort of preference. It was definitely difficult because last year I was doing Falcon and Winter Soldier and The Resident at the same time, so sometimes getting home at night I was a little bit screwy in my brain as to where I was headed the next day and what mind frame I should be in. But it’s not to say I enjoy playing one more than the other. It was fun to get back to Sharon, though, and see this new, kind of hardened version of her.

What was it like shooting both The Resident and Falcon in the middle of a pandemic?

Even before the pandemic, it was hard because it’s two different characters, one of them being very, very physical, so even that in itself was a challenge. Then the pandemic happened, and luckily I didn’t have to do both at the same time. We only had about a month left on Falcon and Winter Soldier, and I finished that up and then went straight into The Resident. It was nerve-racking going back to work after months of being isolated and at home, but also really nice to have a sense of normalcy. Even though it’s not normal at all on set anymore, it’s nice to be around my colleagues, to be at work. We’re kind of lucky to be able to do that and just to deliver new content. Everyone’s streaming everything Marvel. It's made our jobs a little bit more challenging, but also more rewarding in many ways because we’re able to deliver that joy.

When you pay close attention to Falcon’s episode titles, they’ve been very descriptive of each episode. So when the third episode was titled “Power Broker” and we see Sharon return, Marvel theorists ran with it.

We see Sharon return. We see Zemo return. It’s kind of like, yeah, episode 3 was always a big blast of so many things. There’s a ton of theories going around.

Have you ever envisioned Sharon going to the dark side, going against the heroes? What do you make of those theories?

Sharon’s always been this kind of idealistic personality, but I also think there are so many gray areas now between heroes and villains, and that’s something these Marvel shows are really exploring more in-depth. I think anyone at this point is capable of anything. There are so many characters that haven't even appeared yet. There's a lot going on in these six episodes. So for me, I don’t want to say too much because there’s just so much more to come.

Lifting up the hatch to the roof of the cabin, you carefully move your way up to the surface. The cool night air of the forest is inviting; promising for days when you couldn't sleep, too many thoughts in mind. You walked across the ceramic tiles, careful not to slip. In one of your hands was a can of Coca-Cola, a favorite drink of the mortals in the world. And it so happened to be the same for yourself though you were a witch/warlock. As for your other hand, you held a medium-sized juice pouch with dark red liquid contained inside; it was made of primarily cranberry juice and other herbs, a known supplement for blood that only witches or warlocks can make. A very popular consumable in the supernatural market. 

You sat down at the other end of the roof, a few feet away from the trap door, and set down the juice pouch, while opening the coke. As you take a sip, the carbonation hits your nose strongly, making you wrinkle your nose for a moment. A black and tawny cat, Chestnut, leapt up from the trap door. She walks over, joining you, brushing against your arms. Though it seemed like the cat was accompanying you, she in reality was waiting for someone else. But you give the cat what she wants anyways; attention, rubbing her head generously.

It wasn't long till said person came, as they had promised to do so the other day. You barely had enough time to blink when someone appeared besides you without any warning. Most people would be shocked, or perhaps fallen off the roof. And that is speaking from personal experience, from when you first befriended Jisung. 

You eventually got used to it; being friends with a vampire simply just came with these surprise appearances. It’s one of the lesser terrifying things in the world when you think about it, considering the life you live as one kind of supernatural being as well.

Chestnut leaps out of your arms without another thought and into his, purring endlessly into his chest. Jisung laughs, happy to greet an animal who wasn't afraid of him. Hands running through fur, he hugs the cat with the same amount of affection. 

"You made it. And on time," you said, a smile reaching your face upon seeing him. 

"Did you think I wouldn't show up?" Jisung asked, his dark crimson eyes moving away from the cat to look at you. 

He idly played with Chestnut's paws as the cat rested on his lap now; it was quite scary to see a cat be in the hands of a vampire literally, wary of Jisung's long dark nails. But over time, you came to know that he was one of the gentler vampires in the world. And cats knew better than all of us; Chestnut wouldn't approach Jisung if she felt he was dangerous. 

"No. It's not an easy travel route to here, I mean," you said, setting down your can of coke to poke the straw into the juice pouch you had reserved for him.

He scooted over closer and was mindful not to jostle the cat in his lap as he did. Jisung smiled giddly, teeth and fangs showing, as if he was a child receiving sweets, and took the juice pouch from your hands to take a sip. You watched as his image changed once he took a generous glup and swallowed; he ran a hand through his black locks of hair, before leaning back against his arms. The light from the night stars made his pale skin glisten, even more than usual. It's hard not to look at him. 

And here's the confession; you thought Jisung is very beautiful. Vampires just came with good looks. He's not the first vampire you've met in your life either. Safe to say most of them are assholes and only have one goal in mind: to survive. As for him, he is both beautiful inside and outside; the supernatural transformation did not take away his ability to be kind or blurr the meaning of it. You assumed it took a great amount of willpower to do such a thing. Comparing the life of a mortal to a vampire, it was drastically different.

"Worried that I can't handle a couple of forest demons?" Jisung asked then, elbowing me playfully. 

"I guess it's something like that... anyways, do you know what day it is?" you responded.

"March 20th? Or is it one of your witchy / warlocky holidays?"

"...Witchy / warlocky holidays? Name one."

"Halloween."

"Huh? That one applies to all supernatural creatures-"

Jisung snickered, seeming to enjoy the confusion on your face. You knew he was joking then and shoved him to the side as hard as you could with your shoulder. Unfortunately, vampires have insane super strength in this world also; your physical shove did nothing to him. It might've hurt just your own shoulder in the end. The vampire, unmoving, laughs even harder.

"God, you're annoying. I'll send you across the field with a fireball if you don't shut up," you said, folding your arms and rolling your eyes in irritation.

"You like me too much to do that," Jisung responded, his smile turning into a knowing one.

In moments like these, when he was making fun of you, it was easier not to look at him out of spite. Jisung teased you relentlessly, but it was part of the friendship. You did the same back, except this moment was particularly different. The meaning of this day. The vampire notices your demeanor, the seriousness, and stops laughing.

“Aw, come on...I know what day it is, y/n. March 20th, the Spring Solstice. The anniversary of the day we first met," he said now. "I remember and...it's not something I would forget."

You didn't immediately look at Jisung again when he said that. It was because no one had ever said anything like that to you, the level of genuineness you felt from his words; it caught you off guard. Warmth had crept up on your face, paired off with the sudden acceleration of your heart. This wasn't something you can hide from a vampire though, it was more out of embarrassment to not look at him now. Out of the corner of your eyes, you saw Jisung's face become written with surprise.

It was probably also good to note that a witch’s /warlock's blood was particularly toxic to vampires, which was another reason why it wasn't hard to become friends with him in the first place; you didn't have to worry about him thinking of you as a midnight snack. 

There was a good moment of silence as you attempted to muster the courage to find a way to respond to that and of course, explain why in the world you were reacting this way. You were trying to figure out for the longest time about how you truly felt about Jisung; if you were confusing feelings of friendship for...something else. The last thing you wanted to do was to ruin it all. 

This had happened several times and before Jisung could ask any questions, you teleported away from him. And you were about to do that again. He seemed to have anticipated the move and grabbed your hands, a tight grasp, preventing you from casting the spell. This forced you to look at him, though mainly out of your own surprise. There was a concern on his face now instead, and you couldn't miss the dilation of his pupils either; this made you know, whatever you were feeling, Jisung mutually felt the same. You felt stupid for not seeing it sooner; it made sense since you did literally disappear every moment before you could see his reaction every single time. But you were only scared. 

“Sorry,” you blurted out, breaking the heavy silence. “I’ve just been confused and I don’t know what this all means and you’re like my best friend and I don’t want to lose you and you know how complicated it would be for beings like us and-”

Jisung removed one of his hands to cover your mouth, stopping you from talking. 

“Okay. Now when I remove my hand you’re going to breathe. Sound good?”

You nodded, complying with his words. When he takes his hand from over your mouth, you inhale and exhale as directed. Looking back over to Jisung, he has an assuring smile on his face. He held both your hands in his again, his thumbs gently stroking in comfort. You noted that Chestnut the cat had gone from his lap; she must’ve thought you two needed to work something out when sensing tension from you and fled. It was one less thing to worry about. 

“So, all of that...was the reason why you kept running away?” he asked. 

“Yes. It was,” you admitted, the feeling of embarrassment returning. 

Jisung laughed lightly and you saw it now, his own shyness visible. 

“It’s hard to find the words...but I honestly wondered if you’d ever really think of me that way. I know that I have this irresistible beauty-”

You rolled your eyes for the second time today at that statement, almost wanting to retract your hands, yet he again prevented you from leaving until he finished his sentence. 

“- let me finish! But we both know it’s the vampire charm, blah, blah. Anyways, what I’m really trying to say is that I do have the same feelings- I mean at least what I sense your heart is telling me and all your stinky blood rushing around like that in your veins. Since day one, if you really want this to get anymore cliche...a vampire falling for a witch/warlock, vice versa...happens once in a blue moon, doesn’t it?”

Of course, Jisung still manages to joke while making a confession out of awkwardness. Yet you couldn’t be any more happier though. You pulled your hands away from his to wrap your arms around his shoulders for a tight hug, not minding how cold he was. There was no hesitation from Jisung either, his own arms immediately moving to loop around your frame, enjoying the warmth that emitted from your body, tucking his head against yours. The two of you spent a while like that, enjoying each other’s presence, before beginning to talk again about memories, addressing the moments where you both were dodgy; overall, catching up with each other’s feelings as the night continued on.

more than once you've said "the tts fandom can't write x character, or can't write y character," but have you considered that maybe they can write them fine, you've just built up your desired interpretations of these characters? you give off this condescending attitude, like ONLY YOU can write tts characters accurately, ONLY YOU understand them, & any interpretations that don't in some way align with what you think are WRONG. this has become more apparent as you've worked through bitter snow

let’s discuss king frederic, and how he is often characterized in fanworks vs how he is characterized in the show. 

now... i think we can all agree that frederic is at best a mediocre father and a not especially good king, that in his worst moments he steps over the line into emotional abuse vis a vis his treatment of rapunzel, and that the avoidant head-in-the-sand approach he takes to the black rock problem in s1 causes widespread pain, unnecessary panic, and does not improve the situation whatsoever. 

he is widely disliked in the fandom for very good reason

however! it is difficult, though hardly impossible, to find fic where frederic acts or speaks... like frederic, for one very simple reason: the fandom, by and large, as a group, writes frederic as an angry, abusive man who blows up when he is confronted with the many, many things he does wrong. often this takes the form of a character, or characters, getting up in front of him and rattling off his list of crimes, real or perceived, followed by him basically throwing a tantrum.

canon frederic, to put it bluntly, does not do that. 

exhibit a: caine’s confrontation of frederic in before ever after.

caine sets up exactly the scenario that in the average tts fanfic would end with frederic yelling / blustering / furiously denying the accusations, plus she does it while rounding up all his guests and putting them in cage to haul them off and, presumably, kill them somewhere. like. the stakes are life or death and this is an extremely stressful situation for everyone involved.

and this is how that conversation goes down: 

FRED: Release my guests immediately!

CAINE: What’s the matter, Fred? Am I ruining your perfect day?

RAPUNZEL: ...The Duchess?

CAINE: Oh, honey. I am no Duchess.

RAPUNZEL: I don’t understand.

CAINE: Of course you wouldn’t, Rapunzel, but try to follow along. This is all your fault.

RAPUNZEL: What?!

CAINE: You see, after your untimely... disappearance, your father locked up every criminal in the kingdom... including a simple petty thief. My father. I saw him thrown into a cage and hauled off like some animal, never to be seen again. So... I thought I’d come back, and return the favor. 

[the wagon rolls in]

CAINE: Load ‘em up, boys! Your turn, Your Majesty. 

[Frederic moves to shield Rapunzel; Caine snickers.]

CAINE: Oh, come on, you didn’t think we’d leave our prized pig in the pen, did you?

RAPUNZEL: [as Caine’s gang drags Frederic toward the wagon] Dad—

FREDERIC: Rapunzel, stay back. 

RAPUNZEL: But—

FREDERIC: No. There’s nothing you can do. As your father and your king, I command you to stay put. 

there are two key points that i want to make here, because they diverge significantly from the way frederic is characterized in analogous scenarios in fanfics, like, 90% of the time. 

1) fred doesn’t get angry. he doesn’t bluster or yell. he orders caine to release his guests, and when she refuses, he gets quiet. he does not interrupt caine’s rant, he does not even try to deny her accusations, and he doesn’t stomp around escalating the situation even while caine is prancing around waving a sword in his daughter’s face or literally poking him in the chest. 

he stays calm. 

2) fred’s primary, overriding concern is for rapunzel’s safety, and the safety of his guests. not his own. he does not struggle when caine’s men lead him away. he protests on behalf of his guests, but not himself, and he attempts to physically shield rapunzel from harm before he is dragged away. he doesn’t waste his breath trying to argue with caine, but he does tell rapunzel firmly not to put herself in danger trying to rescue him. 

now... there are plenty of ways to interpret why frederic behaves this way, and my personal take is certainly not the only possible one. but the behavior itself, the staying calm in the face of a crisis, while someone is in his face threatening him, his family, and his guests and making pretty charged accusation, is a) objectively playing out on the screen and b) directly at odds with the way frederic most often acts in fanfics. 

exhibit b: mood-swapped frederic blows up just like fanon frederic constantly does

and this is the only time we ever see frederic lose his temper like this in the entire series. again, this is not a matter of interpretation: this is just plainly what happens on the screen. when he is in his right mind, frederic is not a “scream accusations, whip out a sword, and impulsively declare war or attack someone because he’s mad” sort of person, and to say that he is really like that, deep down, is just as silly as trying to argue that cass really is a peppy, soft-hearted, affectionate pushover, or that eugene really is too riddled-with self-doubt and anxiety to make any decisions, or that rapunzel really is a grouchy, moody, misanthropic person. the mood potion makes everyone act like fundamentally different versions of themselves; their behavior is, literally, out of character for their normal, not high-off-their-asses-on-a-magical-potion selves. 

exhibit c: the angry mob in secrets of the sundrop

like with caine, this confrontation kicks off with a premise that should be pretty familiar to anyone who reads any fic featuring frederic at all, ie everybody is pissed at frederic and there is literally an enraged mob screaming for justice in the throne room. and that goes like this:

[everybody shouting in angry panic]

FREDERIC: People... [raising his voice to be heard] Citizens, please! Listen to me!

[Max rears and whinnies to get everyone’s attention, and the shouting dwindles away.]

FREDERIC: I will not lie to you any longer. Corona is in grave danger. The queen has been taken; over half our royal guard lie wounded; and these black rocks draw ever closer.

[the shouting begins to pick up again]

EUGENE: Uh, sir, hi, yeah—if there’s a ‘but’ in this speech, you probably want to cut to it right now. 

FREDERIC: But I look at you, and I don’t just see subjects. I see friends, family; strong, brave individuals who have stood by each other, side-by-side, and have never, ever backed down from a fight! Today, we face a danger like none before. As your king, your friend, and as your brother, I ask you to fight one more time. For Corona!

again, key points: 

1) frederic does not deny, bluster, shout down, or otherwise attempt to refute the basic point that he bungled the black rock situation. he did bungle it, and he knows that [this scene is preceded by him spelling out the full extent of his failures to rapunzel and openly admitting guilt]. through his behavior, he demonstrates that he accepts culpability for the situation and implicitly accepts the legitimacy of the crowd’s anger. 

2) he raises his voice only so he can be heard above the shouting, and as soon as folks quiet down, he drops to a reasonable volume again. his mood is grim, but he isn’t angry. he projects calm. 

3) eugene is nervous about frederic losing control of the crowd and accidentally causing a riot or something; frederic is not. 

4) instead of denying the crowd’s anger, frederic tries to reframe the problem for them: yes, things are bad, but they are strong and brave and we can all work together to put things right. he doesn’t shout them down; he seeks to inspire them. 

and 5) when frederic says “we face a danger,” he means that. the very next thing he does after giving this speech is go straight to the frontlines to fight in the same battle he’s asking everyone else to join in. he's not asking them to do anything he isn’t willing to do himself. 

which... i would argue even more than the caine confrontation in BEA, is diametrically opposed to the way the typical fanon frederic would respond to an angry mob situation, because the typical fanon frederic is a very angry, aggressive man, and that... simply isn’t who frederic is. he’s calm, he’s knows how to work a crowd, he knows how to use his authority to achieve his goals without browbeating or threatening. 

even when he does get angry—such as his instinctive reaction to arianna’s kidnapping, when he jumps first to “we will invade old corona”—he doesn’t yell or stomp around or throw tantrum. he gets stiff and rather cold and makes an impulsive judgment call... but then he takes some time to brood by himself, calms down, talks things out with rapunzel, admits his failures, and doesn’t follow through with the impulsive order he made in the heat of the moment. 

like... flat out, he is not an angry man.

and it’s frustrating, when i go to read fanfic and frederic is overwhelmingly characterized as this hapless angry shouty abusive person, because it is breathtakingly far removed from how he acts in canon, and i like frederic as a character. i find him very interesting, and it’s not fun to read fics where everything that makes him interesting is taken away and replaced with this sort of one-note Shouty Angry King/Bad Dad Whom Everyone Hates. and that applies, unfortunately, to a very large number of the types of fics i like to read (namely, long canon exploratory or canon divergent fics, etc)

anyway,

i am perfectly happy to read interpretations of the tts characters that do not mesh well, or are even wholly incompatible with, my own. 

but i do expect, as a minimum, characters to behave more or less the way they behave in canon unless there is a clear reason for them to be different. i expect varian to be nerdy and chaotic and a bit of a disaster, for example. i expect adira to be aloof, blunt, and perhaps a touch arrogant. i expect cassandra to be ambitious and frustrated and prone to self-sabotage and envy. i expect lance to be laid back and eugene to be a bit vain. i expect the captain to be gruff and very tight-laced. and i expect frederic to act like a politician who is in control of his feelings but sort of cowardly at heart, because that’s how frederic acts in the show. 

i hold myself to these standards too. a ton of my editing process is “hm does this character really talk like this? is this how they would react to this situation?” and then going through and rewatching scenes or whole episodes and trying to find roughly analogous emotional beats or situations to sort of gauge whether i’m hitting the mark or not; it’s very difficult and i work hard on it and do not always succeed... and this does make me a bit picky about characterization in fics i’m reading, yeah, because it’s... always at the forefront of my mind. and then yes i post about it here, because this is the hyperfixation landfill where i dump my tts-adjacent thoughts.
