One of my favorite small things from Jet Lag Tag 3 is just the existence of terrible Trenitalia ticket machines causing them to miss trains, because this was my exact experience as a tourist in 2019 that set off a train of events that landed me stranded in Pisa at midnight and splitting a cab to Florence with strangers
#the ticket machine caused me to miss my trian out of riomaggiore#and forced me to wait an hour for the next train#which was then so late that i missed my connection in pisa#which was the last for the night since it was past midnight when we arrived#so the entire train station was basically closed (even bathrooms) when we arrived#no more trains until morning. one random bus in the middle of the night but who knows about that??#we found a random lost looking australian couple who ALSO missed their connection#and pooled our money to split the only cab still avaliable#and that guy drove us like a madman and got us to florence at like 1 am#it was a fun story--couldve turned out much worse but now it just remains one of my more interesting travel snafus#but it has me laughing so hard at the jet lag boys every time they attempt to operate the machines lmao#like yes sir. I have Been There

Captain Marvel Review: Not Just a Girl (Spoilers).
It’s Here! The final chapter before Avengers: Endgame, the newest hero, and the first female led movie in the MCU Captain Marvel! Carol Danvers is here and she is ready to take on Thanos bare handed, but first she had her own adventure to go on. For a solo/origin hero movie Captain Marvel is fun, heartfelt, and thrilling. Who is Carol Danvers? There was a lot of talk about whether Brie Larson would be able to capture the comic book characters intensity, (a stupid fear, she has a freakin’ Oscar) Would the MCU’s first female lead be strong? Likeable? Maybe she wouldn’t smile, or her voice would be too high. All worries were unfounded because both Brie Larson and Carol do the comics justice. Larson’s portrayal is layered, she is likeable, and she is badass. Carols dry humour, coupled with Larson’s delivery, help her cut down anyone who dares get in her way, Fury, Talos, Yon Rogg, all pale next to her, because she is simply too badass to put up with men who want to make her less than she is. The scene where she comes across a biker who tells her to smile directly mirrors the treatment a lot of male MCU fans gave the character when the first trailers came out. Instead of smiling she steals his bike. Instead of placating her mentor, Jude Law/Yon Rogg/Dumbledore, she owns her own sense of self worth, saying she “Doesn’t need to prove anything to him.” She does more damage in thirty minutes than all the other heroes have done collectively over a ten-year period and it’s exhilarating watching her cut through enemies and spaceships like butter. The scene where she unlocks her potential and kicks ass to No Doubt’s “I’m Just a Girl”? Cinematic poetry. But it isn’t all photon blasts and quick remarks; there is a vulnerability and humanity that is uniquely Brie Larson. To have a gruff, completely cold character, or a too bubbly fun lover would be a disservice. She is at her best when the two sides come together. Her vulnerability, her sensitivity to others are strengths, they don’t take away from how badass she is. Only 90’s kids will remember The movie really wants you to know that when Carol crash lands on earth that she is in fact in the 90’s. From the first shots of her crashing through the roof of a blockbuster video everything screams grunge. The best references were to Carol and Maria playing street fighter 2, using the Alta Vista search engine, and the costume styling. Sooo much plaid. The soundtrack is full of nineties bangers that both fit the time period and the story. Strong female singers like Gwen Stefani in No Doubt and Courtney are used to highlight Carols most badass moments. Nick Fury is young and has an eye and SHIELD isn’t full of Nazis. Sometimes the layers of nostalgia are quite thick, like all the 80’s nods in Guardians, and a lot of random references are shoehorned in. But for the most part these references at a unique flavour to the story that helps further differentiate it from the other MCU movies which is getting harder and harder to do. The Power of Friendship. In the last ten years the MCU has had a lot of good friendships evolve, Bucky and Steve, Tony and Rhodey, Thor and Heimdall. But before now we haven’t seen any female friendships blossom, not even in the team up movies. Carol and Maria, played by the amazing Lashana Lynch is a beautiful thing to see. Described by Brie Larson as the movies true love story, of friendship lost and then found again she couldn’t be more right. The pair have an amazing relationship, two women supporting each other and thriving in an industry dominated by men. Their mantra “higher further faster” a tribute to their ability to rise up together. They join Mar Vels programme together and support each other up until Carols “accident”. Their reunion upon Carol’s return to Earth is emotional and touching, Maria’s tears as she reminds Carol of who she is, is one of the most touching scenes in the film. Maria even helps during the films climax, egged on by Marias daughter, Monica. Monica also adds a sweet innocence to the movie, excited when Auntie Carol returns. Monica Rambeau also has a lot of interesting arcs in the comic universe also and it will be interesting to see if the MCU character follows suit. Carol and Fury: BROTP. Very few heroes have been able to go toe to toe with Fury’s charisma and imposing personality. Some obey (Steve, Natasha, Clint), some rebel (Tony), but few have ever felt like his equal. No one besides Carol has ever been able to create a playful comradery. Whether it’s a symptom of being younger or less jaded doesn’t seem right, because he’s still badass. Carol is probably the first person to ever knock him down a few pegs (“Congratulations agent Fury you just asked a relevant question.) Like Carol he goes against his superiors in favour of what he thinks is right. Brie Larson and Samuel L Jackson have electric chemistry, throwing barbs and having each other’s backs when it counts. The fact that the two actors are close friends helps with the organic evolution of their characters connection. The fact that Fury kept the beeper on his person for twenty or so years is a testament to how much he trusts Carol. SKRULLS: Be careful who you trust. The Skrulls an alien race of green shape shifters who can take on the form of any being that they encounter and seamlessly blend in, essentially taking over planet one person at a time. A huge plotline in Marvel comics, the Kree versus skrull war is the movies central conflict. Carol is told that essentially the Skrulls are baddies and her team of noble warrior Kree are all that stand between the shape shifter and total domination. The fact Marvel has trouble creating memorable or impactful villains, who’s motivations are usually unimportant, never to be heard from again. (Loki and Thanos are exceptions.) The Kree as a concept are pretty terrifying, unseen they could take over family or friends without you knowing, and their original forms are like scary green goblins. Ben Mendelsohn plays their leader Talos, a charismatic leader with a single purpose in mind who will do anything to reach his goals. Mendelsohn comedic timing coupled with a thick Australian accent puts him above a lot of the blander villains. His fear of Goose is particularly hilarious. But it’s once you find out why he’s doing what he’s doing that he and the Skrulls become more. If you follow the news or pay attention to the state of the world right now the plight of the Skrulls will feel really familiar to you. Misplaced and hounded by an army that is far better armed, just looking for a planet of their own. Obviously, their methods are pretty insidious and wrong, which highlights how desperate this group of characters are. This helps in developing Carol as a character, who makes the conscious choice to go against her “team” or the Kree and does what she thinks is truly the right thing. The Goose is Loose. Lastly, the little scene-stealer Goose the cat/flerken! Not everyone is a cat person, but everyone should be a Goose person. Where he came from is a little vague, and why he came to earth is unknown. Fury loves him, Carol loves him. The only person who doesn’t is Talos, which is a hilarious gag. His flerken moments are disturbing and wild; his tesseract strength stomach is a site to behold. He is the only being besides Carol to melt Nick Fury’s heart, and he is the answer to one of the MCU’s last remaining huge questions: What happened to Nick’s eye? How does Captain Marvel fit into the MCU. We know the events of Captain Marvel occur before almost every event in the MCU bar Captain America’s origin. None of the other heroes exist in their current forms, no stones have been collected and no team has been formed. That last part, the idea of forming of the Avengers initiative comes right after Carol and Nick’s adventure, the name a nod to Carols air force days which is a nice touch. Coulson and Nick are young; their cgi faces actually work really well, after about 20 minutes it all starts looking really natural. The MCU tends to use it’s trump card when it wants to make a solid connection between movies and that is the tesseract. The cosmic cube has been owned by Nazis, Loki, Odin, and finally Odin. Another piece of the artefacts origin is put into place. However without remembering where the cube was after world war two you have to wonder how the cube was passed around so much afterwards. It isn’t used in Carol’s comic origin, and it doesn’t make total sense. It’s a very convenient plot device, but any other Kree object could have been put in it’s place. It does make Carol the strongest hero in the MCU however which is fitting, giving her the ability to travel so far from Earth that she has no clue about any of the events that happen in her absence until Fury pages her in the Infinity War post credit scene. Brie Larson’s explanation, that there are a lot of planets and species in the universe that need help besides Earth, is actually a pretty solid explanation. But is she really gone the whole time? Did she pop in occasionally to see Maria and Fury at any point? Did it take twenty years to help the Skrulls? All valid questions that aren’t answered. Where will the MCU go, after Endgame, now that it’s unleashed it’s most powerful force? It’s exciting to think future adventures could happen away from earth, that villains could potentially become stronger, Maybe Galuctus will pop up. Brie Larson and others have mentioned the possible appearance of Miss Marvel, Kamala Khan in the sequel, which would fit nicely with the films message of girl power and a lot of people would love to see. Wherever the MCU goes after Endgame is open ended, but Carol’s strength opens up so many exciting possibilities.

Card suits as a characteristic of the heroes Overwatch
Traditionally I apologize for maybe clumsy English.
Preface
On the "Overwatch Anniversary" for each character added sprays in the form of a playing card. And if the choice of a rank of a card for this or that character is more or less clear, then the distribution by suit seems somehow random. For example, it was very difficult for me to relate Zenyatta to Spades. In many respects, stereotypes are guilty, such as: Hearts are feelings, love; Spades are the opposite of the Heart, that is a quarrel, a war. What are Clubs and Diamonds usually do not even think about... However, recently I came across one interesting article and it turned out that every suit has a much more interesting and complicated meaning.
Naturally, the system comes from mysticism, and more precisely from fortune telling on playing cards. Despite the fact that many of the heroes of the same suit are very different in character, there is something that unites them. The suit, in our case, reveals the main character trait of the character, which determines the basis on which the character will act one way or another. However, the difficulty was that in different systems the values differ. The best explanation I found in the so-called "The Cards of Life." But the meaning cannot simply be copied. It turned out that in some suits the main thing is not the first meaning, but the next. For example, Spades are people whose wisdom is based on experience, but also they are "workaholics." The second in our case is of greater importance, although it flows from the first. But first things first.
Value of the card
Before we go directly to the analysis of the suit, a couple of words about ranks.
From the point of view of rank, only high cards have value. In pip cards, rank does not matter at all. That is, it does not matter a dozen or eight - the value of the card is not related to the significance of the character in the lore. Pip cards will simply be filled as new characters come out.
Aces are the most important characters of lore. Jack, Ana, Gabriel - commanders and founders of Overwatch. They are the core of history. Lena is not so important, but she is the "face of the game".
Kings are the most significant and held male characters. Reinhardt and Torbjörn - have held high positions in Overwatch and their role in history is very significant. Zenyatta is a teacher and mentor of Genji. Hanzo is the head of Shimada's home, regardless of his current state.
Queens are like kings, only these are female characters. Sombra, Widow, Mercy - they are all especially important for the main story and constitute the backbone of the recognizable female collective. Pharah, in addition to what was said, the "Rocket Queen" - it would be strange to give her another card.
Jacks are young men who have chosen their path, but have not yet reached the heights of kings (yes, Winston is also a young man).
Jokers are quite specific cards. Since they are depicted as buffoons, they are perfect for our Australian couple. They also are a little outside the main story, so they can be taken out of brackets.
♥ Hearts
Hearts are costumes that are most easily explained. These are people who live emotions. It's the feelings that affect their decisions.
Ana is a mother, but not just for her daughter. She cares for all who are around. She is the embodiment of maternal love and care. Moreover, based on feelings she decided to "die", and then return.
Reinhardt in the shower is always like a child. He has a rich imagination, he is passionate and dreamy. “Honor! Justice! Reinhardt, Reinhardt, REINHARDT!”
The location in this suit of Widowmaker is quite curious. Amélie is the one who lost her senses. On the one hand it looks like the irony of developers. On the other hand, there are many hints that feelings for her come back... Unfortunately, we know very little about it.
Despite the fact that Winston is a scientist, he relies heavily on his feelings. He is an idealist and a dreamer. He uses knowledge to please his desires. For him, science is only a means to an end, not an end in itself. "Primal Rage" - the extreme form of his emotionality.
D.va is a gamer. She does what she likes and fearlessly rushes into battle. For her, a new task is another game.
♣ Clubs
Clubs represents the mind and mental activities. To a Clubs person, education of some sort is a prerequisite. They are very attentive to the details and will definitely notice what others will miss. Knowledge is power. Logic is their tool.
Despite the widespread opinion, Reaper is far from emotionally unbalanced psychopath. On the contrary, he is very patient and discreet. In the comic "Uprising," he approaches the problem of Omnics with Kings Row more thoroughly than the emotional Ana. Gabriel carefully plans every action. He also always tries to control his anger, although sometimes it is hard for him. His motto is "keep calm and reap on", which should be read as: do not let the feelings takeover of you and then you will succeed.
Torbjörn is the chief engineer of Overwatch and the inventor. His far-sightedness helped him to anticipate the Omnic crisis. He thinks constructively and thoroughly.
Mercy is MD. Ph. D. - Doctorate of Medicine and of Philosophy. She is a scientist and, in contrast to Winston, sets the goal of helping people through science. Science is both a means and a goal.
Genji is a pretty interesting character. In order to overcome himself, he had to make an effort of will. He rethought his life and started it from scratch. But it was not an emotional outburst and not a coincidence of circumstances (circumstances just "destroyed" him and only hopelessness was ahead). It was a conscious action, to which he resolved, watching Zenyatta. Genji accepted Zen's teachings with his mind, he likes to learn and he opens up new opportunities for himself.
The original program put into Bastion failed. Now his main feature is curiosity. He is interested in how this world works. He is open to knowledge and is hungry for new information.
♦ Diamonds
To comprehend this suit was not easy, because diamonds are values and accumulation of value, material or otherwise. Where people of the Clubs suit accumulate knowledge, Diamonds people prefer money and things. However, people and relations between them are also a value for them. Therefore, in this case, we are not talking about the material, but that each hero has something that they value above all and seek to enlarge. Their values determine their desires and approach to their implementation. So it's people who do not tolerate when they are told what to do. They seek either equality or superiority.
The main value of Tracer is love. It seeks to punish evil and bring hope, thereby multiplying the good in the world. "Cheers, love!"
The value of Hanzo is his honor, which he lost at the time of the murder of his brother. And now he is looking for a way to restore it.
Pharah comes from a long line of highly decorated soldiers and burns with the desire to serve with honor. She is dreamed of serving in Overwatch and become equal to her mother. Despite the fact that Overwatch dissolved, the desire to become a military did not leave her. In a sense, her value is the honor of a military man.
The main value of Lúcio is freedom and cheerfulness. This he wants to share with people.
Mei saves the ecology of the planet. It accumulates and multiplies data that can change the course of events. It would seem that Mei looks like Clubs, but her "knowledge" is material and literally stored on a flash drive. Separately, the value of this knowledge is small and is not educational in nature. But the more data, the higher the probability of finding a solution. Therefore, she collects it’s wherever possible.
The value of Symmetra is order. She wants to build an ideal world and seeks to organize everything around. "The true enemy of humanity is disorder."
♠ Spades
Perhaps, it was the most difficult for the interpretation of the suit. Spades is a symbol and misfortunes, and wisdom, and wars, and much more... It was difficult to understand this mess, but the answer was very simple.
Spades are people who love to do. They are not interested in deep thinking about how to act. They just do it. They rely less on their feelings than Hearts, because they have experience. And they do not adjust their actions to values dear to their heart, like Diamonds. Spades are stubborn, but at the same time flexible in choosing ways to achieve goals. The main thing is not to stop.
Soldier 76 is always on the move. He has a purpose, and he will move towards her with the persistence of a buffalo. When Ana asked him what he would do after his war ended, Jack replied: “I’m a soldier, Ana. Our war’s never over.”
Zenyatta is a monk, striving to bring harmony between people and omniks. But unlike his "colleagues" he believed that the way to repair the problems between humans and omnics was not through dogmatic teaching but through interpersonal connection and engagement. At the same time, he does not accumulate knowledge like Clubs and relies more on experience.
Sombra is a pragmatist. She plans her actions, but her plans are changeable. She prefers to navigate the situation. This trait is often the cause of the annoyance of the reaper who is considering everything in advance. Mutual criticism we can hear in the in-game dialogue: “Try to stick to the plan, Sombra.” – “Look, someone has to be ready when all your careful planning doesn't pan out.”
McCree does not linger on a debt in one place. He came to believe that he could make amends for his past sins by right of the injustices of the world. He does not bother himself with extra thinking and solves problems as they come. “I tried being reasonable, didn't take to it.”
Zarya is an athlete. But at the moment of danger, she did not hesitate to sacrifice her career in order to protect her country and her people close to her.
The main task, laid in Orisa: protect. Unlike Bastion, whose program "broke down", does not show interest in the world as such. It concentrates on the events taking place around it and self-learning through the experience gained in the process of fulfilling its direct duties.
Epilogue.
Summarizing, you can reduce everything to the following:
♥ - those who make decisions based on their feelings;
♣ - people of mind and logic;
♦ - their decisions are influenced by their specific values;
♠ - people who love to do.
If my theory is correct, then the next "Anniversary" Moira should get 9♣, as she is a scientist, and her task is to promote science.
Brigitte and Doomfist should get 9♥ and 8♦ respectively (although I admit the probability of the layout of 8♣ and 9♥). Here it is worth considering that until the next "Anniversary" the release of new heroes is not expected. So, the 9♥ card should definitely get to one of the existing ones. Brigitte looks more suitable for this card, as she is close to Reinhardt and shares his views. Yes, she is a talented engineer, like Torbjörn. But judging by what we have already seen, she perceives her knowledge as an instrument, like Winston.
Doomfist, as a contender for 9♥, looks a bit strange. With a desire, of course, it can be attributed to this suit ... but he is much better suited Diamonds. The main motivator of his actions is his ideals. However, unlike the idealist Winston, he is prudent and thinks out his actions in advance (nevertheless, he does not give his actions such a value as would give them Clubs).

Comey, Trump Foundation, Border: Your Thursday Evening Briefing
(Want to get this briefing by email? Here’s the sign-up.)
Good evening. Here’s the latest.
1. “I do not agree with all of the inspector general’s conclusions, but I respect the work of his office.”
That was James Comey, in an Op-Ed for The Times, after a Justice Department report found that he was “insubordinate” in his handling of the Clinton investigation during the 2016 election. Above, Mr. Comey speaking in Canada last week.
The report does not challenge the decision not to prosecute Hillary Clinton for her use of a private email server to store classified information. Nor does it conclude that political bias at the F.B.I. influenced that decision.
Nevertheless, it paints an unflattering picture of one of the F.B.I.’s most tumultuous periods, which included the start of the investigation into the Trump campaign’s connections to Russia.
Here are the highlights of the 500-page report.
____
2. The New York State attorney general’s office filed a scathingly worded lawsuit against President Trump’s charitable foundation. Above, Mr. Trump presented a check from the foundation to a veterans’ group in Iowa in January 2016.
The suit accuses the foundation and the Trump family of sweeping violations of campaign finance laws, self-dealing and illegal coordination with the presidential campaign.
Mr. Trump reacted with vitriol, characterizing the civil suit as an attempt by the “sleazy New York Democrats” to damage him. Here are the basics of the case.
3. We went inside Casa Padre, a converted Walmart in Texas that is being used as a privately run shelter for nearly 1,500 boys, aged 10 to 17, caught illegally crossing the border. Above, a photo of the exterior taken by our reporter.
The facility has had to obtain a waiver from the state to expand its capacity, because children are now often being separated from their parents at the border. Some conservative religious leaders are sharply rebuking the Trump administration for such separations.
The administration has also ruled out domestic abuse as grounds for receiving asylum. On our podcast “The Daily,” we talk to one asylum seeker from West Africa, who fled domestic violence.
____
4. The Supreme Court struck down a Minnesota law prohibiting voters from wearing T-shirts, hats and buttons expressing political views at polling places.
As enforced by election officials, it banned even general political messages, like support for gun rights or labor unions. About nine other states have similar laws.
The case started when members of the Minnesota Voters Alliance, which says it works to ensure “election integrity,” turned up at polling places wearing T-shirts bearing Tea Party logos and buttons saying “Please I.D. Me.”
____
5. Stephen Bannon is betting that Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies can disrupt banking the way President Trump disrupted American politics.
Ten months after he was fired from his job as chief strategist to President Trump, Mr. Bannon is meeting with cryptocurrency investors and hedge funds.
He has discussed working on so-called initial coin offerings through his investment business, Bannon & Company. And he told our reporter that he has a “good stake” in Bitcoin.
He’s even floated the possibility of creating a “deplorables coin.”
____
7. New policies regarding free speech on campus are part of a growing and well-organized campaign that has put academia squarely in the cross hairs of the American right.
Republican-led legislatures in several states have imposed rules barring students from blocking another’s speech at public colleges and universities.
The goal is to foster an atmosphere of civility and avoid the kind of disruptions that prevented conservatives from speaking at the University of California, Berkeley, Middlebury College, above, and other schools.
But the policies raise a tough question: When one person’s beliefs sound like hate speech to another, how do you ensure a more civil political debate?
8. We sat down with Antonio Villaraigosa, the former mayor of Los Angeles, who placed a distant third in the primary for governor last week.
He lost to Gavin Newsom, the Democratic lieutenant governor, and John Cox, a Republican businessman who won the endorsement of President Trump. Those two will face each other on the November ballot.
The loss was striking. Political consultants are still debating what went wrong, and what the results say about the power of the Latino vote.
“This guy was a two-term mayor of Los Angeles running to be the first Latino governor since the 1800s,” said Roberto Suro, a professor at the University of Southern California, “and nobody stood up to salute?”

9. Some important news, just in time for Father’s Day: Dads are now at the center of the fashion universe.
Chinos, fanny packs, orthopedic sneakers, socks with shorts, baggy blazers: The fashion world wants it all. The looks were seen in the spring runway shows, part of a mass move to the unique and the downright fugly. Above, a vintage look, from 1994.
“Brands are trying to produce mystery in this overexposed atmosphere,” a design consultant explained. “They’re doing it by either picking something extremely random or something extremely obvious. Dad style is both.”
10. Finally, on “The Late Show,” Stephen Colbert welcomed an odd couple that we might be seeing more of in the future: Michael Avenatti, the lawyer for Stormy Daniels, and Anthony Scaramucci, the short-lived White House communications director.
They refused to address reports that an agent had pitched them as the stars of a new talk show. But Mr. Scaramucci, above left, didn’t shy from self-deprecating humor.
Mr. Colbert ribbed him about his curtailed tenure: “One 11-day period is now called a Scaramucci.”
“It’s actually not long enough to be called a Scaramucci,” the guest answered. “It’s called a Mooch.”
Have a great night.
