I complain a lot and have particular tastes but actually,,,,, even slightly odd regional productions of Elisabeth are much more enjoyable to watch than Schönbrunn 😭😭😭 (which is a kitschy corpse of the original show).

Like I have just beheld the rudolf scenes in the Lithuanian production and while deeply weird things happen (tod same day express delivery kissing him very quickly and then slowly Rotating Him on top of his coffin by pulling on his feet 😭😭) there's some interesting artistic engagement w the story!! (Mayerling happens w Rudolf trying to run away and escape (?) but being confronted with mirrors on all sides, ie. just his own self with nobody there to help him snap out of it - what a thought-provoking take on self-hatred 😭 also he's literally face down curled up on the floor at the end of spiegel and weeping quietly hahaha which I like)
