Best parts of Veggie Tales: The Pirates Who Don't do Anything (2008)
the plot concept of "waiters at a pirate-themed dinner theater are transported back in time and forced to pretend to actually be real pirates” love them for this.
hilarious and perplexing lack of religious content for a media franchise with the sole purpose of teaching children about Christianity. The god people wanted to make this movie so bad they forgot to put the god in it
the main villain (Robert the Terrible) is a pirate captain with a peg entire body because he is a pea and does not have any limbs in the first place
One of the mechanical limbs is still a peg leg even though there is no logical precedent for this. Amazing.
Robert is a master inventor. This makes sense to me and me alone because of the Greek myth I read about in which Hephaestus falls to earth and learns how to blacksmith from Sintian pirates
before the main characters get isekaied back to the 1700s an elderly blind man delivers a prophecy to them. so I guess Tireseas is here and he is a leek
Blackbeard is mentioned. I need to know what kind of vegetable he's supposed to be. I like to think he is a head of lettuce for the decapitation pun
"just get me back to 1972, I can walk from there"
the wait a minute isn't this just the plot of Galaxy Quest?" is made clear by both movies including a giant rock monster
at the very end they play the song Rock Monster, a parody of Rock Lobster by the B-52s
Robert is the villain because he wants to take vengeance against the king for redistributing the wealth to the people. so even when the pirates are the bad guys the moral of the story is still Socialism
the king... is heavily implied to secretly BE God? A lot to unpack there.
A lot.
???? like????
Bob the Tomato is not in the movie because Bob the Tomato is directing the movie. meta.
#like... is the king god-god or the second coming? what does that make his evil brother? what does that make his kids?#and im pretty sure that entire premise is against christian theology in at least several ways#we can ignore 'why can the vegetables hold things without arms' but i am NOT ignoring that#very funny of them#i watched Galaxy Quest immediately before this. its a theme night#veggie tales#the pirates who don't do anything

— DADDY'S LITTLE PRINCESS
synopsis ; growing up is something a parent is afraid of apparently, since they don't get to spoil their little princess now that she asks to be treated like a big girl now.
scenario ; an alternative universe wherein, these characters are the reader's dad and that reader is their little princess daugther.
type ; headcanon
include/s ; ushijima & bokuto
pairings ; dad character & daughter reader
genre ; fluff, comedy, and a mountain full of corn
USHIJIMA WAKATOSHI
Ushijima isn't the doting type of father, since he isn't much of a fan of children. He thinks that they are noisy and can totally drain his energy, Ushijima isn't a fan of children especially if they are crying and being all loud and all.
But Ushijima is likes to spoil his daughter, seeing his daughter happy gives him the satisfaction. He would buy anything his daughter wanted.
But a day like this, Ushijima didn't expect that his daughter suddenly changed, turned matured even.
"Daddy! From now on you'll call me by my name and my name only! I'm already 9 years old soon to be 10 this week! I am a big girl now!" she says in a high pitched voice as she pumps her chest with her hand in a fist. What a breakfast to start a day hearing this, Ushijima grinned and gave a low chuckle setting aside the spoon and fork he was holding and crossing his arms looking at his daughter beside him removing the vegetables piece by piece from her dish. He immediately thought, that the sight he witnessed is too cute to handle, despite saying that she is a big girl now, like a kid she still does not like to eat her vegetables. "Well, princess. If you're such a big girl now. Why not eat those vegetables you missed?" using his chin to point at the plate, she immediately covers it using her hands. "But you know that I hate vegetables, and I told you to call me my name, Daddy!" pouting almost like she is turning into a red tomato, crossing her arms and looking away was her best and last resort to avoid eating the vegetables. "I guess my princess, is still my little princess." Ushijima shrugs and gives out a disappointed sigh, copying her daughter by looking to her side avoiding eye contact from his daughter. "Daddy, m'sorry are you mad?" trying to get Ushijima's attention by these words didn't work at all, he was determined to ignore her and she was impatient. It didn't take long when she started taking a bite on the vegetables on her plate, nibbling on the pieces she looked like she was about to cry from eating it. Mumbling apologies as she eats all of what's in her plate, until Ushijima decides to turn back to her to see her mopping and snot dripping down her nose. "Daddy, I ate all the veggies...are you still mad?" though tears still fell from her eyes, Ushijima stopped the act and cleaned her face up. "My, my, what do we have here. I guess my little princess is still a crybaby after all." Ushijima wipes her tears away, and gives a small peck on her forehead as he starts to comfort her. "There, there. My little princess don't you dare grow too fast now or I won't have to spoil you this much."
BOKUTO KOUTAROU
Bokuto is too energetic for his own good, compared to his daughter she is a lot calmer and less energetic as her.
He is the supportive dad any kid could ask for, but unfortunately his daughter as of now, claims that she is old enough not to be treated as a baby by her father.
It was time for another night to watch a horror movie, since it is their tradition to do so, like how they bond.
"Daddy! I will sit alone! Here in this chair! Since I am a big girl now, I can watch these horror movies without sitting next to you!" she claimed the chair as if it was her property then covered herself with her favorite blanket. Bokuto who is in the urge to cry because felt as if her daughter is growing up too fast. "But this is a scary one, princess. And I know you don't like scary things..." with a tone of like a kid begging, Bokuto even gave the puppy eyes to his beloved daughter, but she flat out rejected him. "No, I told you I can handle this! I can even watch it myself without you, Daddy!" proudly saying those words out loud was enough to know Bokuto's pride down. (Ah...tell me I misheard what she said...my little princess...) shedding a tear on his eye, Bokuto proceeded to put the channel on to the scary movie. As of the moment, he is sitting beside his daughter only because she chooses to sit a little bit apart with the other chair. Bokuto who is totally in sync with the movie, didn't even flinch when the jump scares came up, except when it came to his daughter muffled screams were heard from her. "Honey, you know that you can sit here with me right?" He pats on the empty space of the couch, trying to tempt his daughter to sit next to him. But she still insists on sitting alone in the chair, trembling with fear as if she is about to cry if there was another jump scare going to pop from the television and it did. Making her shriek then soon enough tears soon built up in her eyes. "Daddy...!" she is basically bawling her eyes out now, shoving herself in the blanket. Bokuto immediately carried her into his arms and sat right back in the couch, holding her in how you hold a baby infant made him feel nostalgic. "You know, I used to carry you like this when you were still little. I miss carrying my little princess like this." he snuggles his daughter tightly into his arms and gives her a kiss on the forehead. "But you can still carry me like this, Daddy..." she says in a shy tone of voice and then gives out a soft grin. "Of course, you are still, Daddy's little princess."

Respite of Stars
A pumpkin and robot have a picnic together. Something as simple as that can feel magical. (Cloak Bot is called Cloko in this story.)
This story is also on my AO3 account by the same name as this one if you prefer that! This story's about 1.4k words long and is packed with as much self-indulgence as I could possibly place in it. Enjoy!
Under a blanket of stars lies two figures- Azelle, a pumpkin-headed creature, and Cloko, a (former) killer robot frog that the pumpkin befriended. The two are sitting criss-cross facing each other on top of a mat, both holding a sandwich. Cloko opens up the sandwich, revealing its delicious insides to the other, though that wasn't what they were concerned about.
"Query: What is this?"
They plucked out a slice of red fruit.
"That's a tomato. I like them because they make the sandwich a lot less dry than without them!"
The pumpkin takes a generous bite out of their sandwich, truly savoring the juice of the fruit in this one in particular.
"Acknowledgement: Thank you."
A scrap of thin green vegetable falls out of Azelle's food, Cloko being quick to notice and point at it.
"Query: What is this?"
Azelle picks it up.
"It's lettuce! It adds crunch and goes well with the tomato and everything else! I always put them into burgers when I can, along with onions and mayo and..."
The pumpkin was practically salivating at the mere thought of the ingredients that they didn't bring.
"Addendum: I wish I could eat like you. It looks fun, even if I don't understand it."
"Aww, we can have plenty of fun in other ways if you're not enjoying this!"
Almost immediately, the robot shakes their head.
"I AM having fun. Please keep telling me about food."
With a grin on their face, Azelle elaborates more on the rest of the ingredients in the picnic basket the two brought along, with Cloko showing clear curiosity and happiness over seeing the other's excitement over what would otherwise be plain ingredients. From minestrone soup to arroz con leche, there always seemed to be more that the pumpkin wanted to say, and the robot was happy to listen.
"...and that's why I really like bananas," Azelle said while finishing the relevant fruit and placing its peel into the basket..
"Acknowledgement: Having to peel a banana just to eat it sounds wasteful.
Addendum: Peeling a banana sounds fun. Query: Why didn't you bring over all of the food you talked about?"
Azelle looks over at the picnic basket. It was only slightly bigger than their head.
"As much as I would love to, I don't think it can handle all of that yummy goodness, even if I only brought small portions of everything. I can bring different foods next time we have a picnic!"
Question marks popped up in the eyes of the robot.
"Clarify: There'll be a next time?"
"Yeah, of course! Unless you don't want to do this again-"
Cloko cut off the sentence before it could continue.
"I WANT to do this more.
Context: I am not used to being able to do things more than once. I never got second chances for anything before. This is still new to me."
"That was ages ago, you're not an assassin anymore!"
The robot slightly curls up into a ball, looking at their claws.
"Further Information: I still feel like a vessel for destruction- Andrias-"
A pained look pops up on their face as Azelle shifts closer to them.
".. .my creator did not program me to feel. I do not know when I started to feel, but I still ignored my feelings in the past. It hurted a lot, but the pain was not visible to anyone else.
Clarification: Not visible to anyone else, until I met you."
The pumpkin grabbed onto one of Cloko's arms, fully covering it up with their soft hoodie.
"I was never an assassin like you, but I think I can relate to having to hide my own emotions in my past. Just letting out how I feel is really hard sometimes and I can't imagine what it was like for you."
They let out a sigh, gripping the robot just a bit tighter.
"I'm really happy that you could finally let that all out, though. Do you wanna just... lay down for a bit? Decompress?"
"Please."
Setting their heads on the picnic mat, the two stare upwards. The stage of stars envelop their bright, yet gentle lights onto the two.
"Admission: I am slightly scared of space. Unpleasant experience once."
"Yeah, you were lying next to a bunch of junk.. ."
The memories of finding and fixing the robot from the hunks of metal they were before to back to who they were now flood into the pumpkin's head, shuddering slightly from how stressful boot-up was specifically.
...
"Start up engage."
In front of the pumpkin was a robot unlike anything they'd ever seen before. With lanky limbs and claws at the end of their arms, it took a bit for them to notice it was supposed to resemble a... frog, probably? Tinkering with the machine left them with a few burns and bruises from accidents, though they'd eventually heal up. Before their thoughts strayed any more, the eyes of the sitting robot flashed blue.
"Model number C0-L1. Factory settings rest- st- st-"
It stuttered in both its speech and movement.
"Oh come on, you need to work, please!"
With a slightly frustrated expression on their face, Azelle shook the machine as hard as they could.
"st- st- STOP-"
The pumpkin jumped back, taken aback by the sudden increase in volume and a command.
"Oh, I'm so sorry, I didn't- I just thought- I..."
Before they could continue, the eyes of the robot changed color to red. It took a look at itself, making a focused effort to stand as well, its height easily towering over the pumpkin, though very clearly one strong gust wind away from falling over.
"Status: Factory reset error occurred. Unknown side effects imminent."
The two locked eyes.
"Hello, uh... what's your name?"
"Problem: Unknown stranger.
Potential Solution: Destroy."
Azelle's eyes widened as they took a step back.
"WOAH there, I-"
"Error: Potential Solution is unnecessary.
New Solution: Ask stranger for more information before making decisions.
Azelle put their arms down, which they didn't notice they threw up just a few moments ago.
"Questions: Where am I? Where's Andrias? Where's-"
"Slow down! One question at a time!"
"Request: Accepted."
"Okay. You're in front of my house, you kind of crashed here a few weeks ago. I put in a LOT of time and effort into learning how to fix you because... you look like a friend. Friend shaped."
"Question: What is a friend?"
"A friend's someone you enjoy being with! Simple as that, I think. Even if you're just doing something mundane, it's better because you're with them."
The eyes of the robot flashed blue again as multiple lines of incomprehensible code run in them.
"Error: No friends found."
The light in the pumpkin dimmed upon hearing this.
"Hmm.. . I think we could be friends, if you'd want. I don't know why you don't have any friends, but I think it's criminal that you don't- if you told me, I think we could start something."
"Acknowledge..."
The robot turned what would've been a statement into a cheerful nod. The flame flickering inside of Azelle burned bright yet again.
"Friends!"
"Fuh... friends."
"By the way, what's your name?"
.. .
"...but now look where we are! Relaxing, having a picnic, doing all sorts of things together! We can tackle the stars together! I wanna soar through them more, though."
"Reminder: I can fly us into space."
"Oh- I can't breathe in space. It's mostly just a daydream for me. If being with you was a dream though, I don't think I'd ever wanna wake up."
"Reminder: We spent multiple weeks together. I'm happy this isn't a dream."
The biggest grin flashes itself onto Azelle. They then roll themself next to the robot.
"Acknowledgement: We are 'this close' to each other," they say as they pinch their claws to be nearly touching.
"Do you think we could be 'this close?'"
Azelle grabs the further arm of the robot and wraps it around themself in a manual hug. Cloko's eyes look at this, with the dots in them slightly shaking.
"Yes."
Picking the pumpkin up with no effort, the robot places them on top of themself, fully wrapping everything under their shoulders in a hug, leaving their arms and head free. With their free arms, Azelle hugs the arms of Cloko back. With no other words to say in the moment, the two look into the night sky together. A comet flies above, leaving behind a sparkling trail of orange and silver stardust.

out to lunch
Pairing: cooking show chef!xiaojun x personal assistant!reader
Themes: smut
Word count: 2.5k
Summary: You come over to the kitchen set of Xiaojun’s cooking show to tell him you managed to get him what he had always dreamed of. However, once you reveal the big news, you discover his priorities have changed, and right now, the only thing he wants to do is you.
Warnings: dirty talk | fingering | kitchen set sex | unprotected sex | creampie | Xiaojun’s inner diva is showing |

Xiaojun was utterly immersed in his world. Though it was already late at night, he was still behind the kitchen counter, chopping ingredients with his favorite knife. Right now, Xiaojun was in his element, oozing precision and determination to perfect his new recipe, and it somewhat felt like a sin to interrupt him.
You had big news to deliver, though. Having heard you out, Xiaojun would surely forgive you for your disruption. He had to. After all, you just managed to get him that cooking book contract he had always dreamed of.
Ever since you two had started working together, it was your goal to make Xiaojun a published author. Though he already owned three restaurants and starred in his own cooking show, Xiaojun was insatiable. The more fame and recognition he got, it was never enough.
You cleared your throat to obtain his attention, but it didn’t quite pull him out of his trance, so you decided to give him an extra minute.
Xiaojun looked incredibly attractive in his own habitat. In his white uniform and ridiculously big chef hat, Xiaojun looked like a whole damn Michelin three-star dish. No wonder he kept beating his viewing records with each new episode. People all across the country swooned over his culinary talent, incredible charisma, and breathtaking looks.
Having approached the kitchen counter, you knocked on the marble surface in hopes of obtaining his attention.
“Earth to Xiaojun,” you softly spoke, looking at his face. Apparently, the timing couldn’t have been worse as Xiaojun dropped his knife on the cutting board and swung it onto the floor, making a huge mess.
“What do you want!? Don’t you see I’m busy!?” Xiaojun barked before he turned around to get a clean set of kitchen utensils. “Get lost. I don’t want to talk to you,” he added, waving his hand at you, trying to chase you out of the kitchen space.
“Ugh, for the love of God, Xiaojun! How many times have we had this conversation? That diva tone doesn’t work on me,” you answered firmly, staring into his eyes, challenging him. His gaze was intense, his jaw was tensed, but you just smiled at him, ignoring his shenanigans altogether. It wasn’t the first time he lashed out at you, and you knew how to handle him.
“Okay, fine. What is it?” Xiaojun huffed, giving in. With his arms folded across his chest, he tapped his foot against the floor, impatiently waiting for the news.
“I got you that book offer. You’re gonna be a published author,” you exclaimed, ready to jump up and down in joy. However, Xiaojun didn’t seem to be particularly excited. “What’s the matter? Isn’t it what you’ve always wanted? I don’t get it,” you spoke, creasing your eyebrow in confusion, trying to read his bizarre expression.
Xiaojun seemed indifferent at best.
“Cancel it. Undo it. I won’t write it,” Xiaojun replied before he proceeded back to his previous task. It wasn’t wise to disturb him now, so you waited until all vegetables were neatly cubed and thrown into a bowl.
“Can you tell me what’s going on? I don’t understand. I thought you’ve always wanted it,” you inquired, trying a much calmer approach. Xiaojun didn’t use his knife now, but he was still holding it, and it wouldn’t be the first time someone earned a cut during a heated argument in the kitchen.
“I have,” Xiaojun replied with a deep sigh as he poured the chicken broth over the vegetables. “But it gets tiring, you know…” he added, as he took off his chef hat and threw it on the countertop, running his hand through his hair. “Everything is happening too fast. I thought I wanted it, but now, when I actually live that life, I realized I am not cut out for this.”
It was heart-breaking to listen to it. You two had been working very hard to get Xiaojun where he is right now, only to come to a conclusion it’s all wrong. Fame was a heavy cross to bear, and Xiaojun was slowly stumbling under its weight.
“Don’t tell me you want to quit,” you whispered, anxious to know the answer. Xiaojun’s eyes were trained on you, and you could see how tired he was. “How about you take it easy from now on instead of quitting it all together? It would be a shame to quit right at the finishing line,” you reasoned, hoping Xiaojun would consider it.
“I don’t know.”
“Let’s talk about it, okay?” you interjected before Xiaojun would impulsively ruin his career. “We’ve got only three more episodes to shoot. I could put you on hiatus until you decide you want to continue with another season. In the meantime, you could work on the cooking book at your own pace. Probably, I will make you record some cooking content on social media to keep you circulating on the web, so people won’t forget you. Except for that, your schedule would be clear to focus on whatever you need to focus on.”
Silence.
Xiaojun was staring at his chef hat, pondering your damn good points. When you put it like that, it was hard to say no. Besides, he had a feeling you would talk back instantly if he found faults in your argumentation.
Seconds passed without Xiaojun’s response. You were his voice of reason; he had to listen to you. Besides, not only was his career on the line. If he actually quitted, your superior would murder you. Xiaojun was the cash cow of the company; they couldn’t afford to lose him. He was at their rising star.
“Why do you always know what to say?” Xiaojun rhetorically asked, and you beamed, ready to grace him with an answer.
“I’m really good at my job,” you pointed out proudly. Thanks to your impeccable management and problem-solving capabilities, you managed to help Xiaojun rise to the top. “And also, I care about you. Sometimes, you’re a pain in the ass, but after all, you’re a good person. You are my friend, and I want you to be happy.”
“Fine, let’s do it your way. But we’re not shooting another season until I say so,” Xiaojun caved, smiling brightly at you. “You know what I really want to do, though?” He challenged as he rested his elbow on the counter, straightening his back, trying to appear taller and overall more confident.
His voice was quiet, and it suspiciously sounded as if he told “you.”
Shaking your head, you asked, “what?”
Xiaojun felt a sudden wave of confidence rush through him before he repeated himself clearly. No, there was no shred of doubt. You heard him loud and clear. Confidently, Xiaojun admitted that he really want to do was you.
“You seriously think I haven’t noticed the way you look at me?” Xiaojun spoke in a somewhat accusing tone, eyeing you from head to toe before he took a cautious step toward you. Intimidated, you took a step backward, and that timid action made Xiaojun smirk.
He knew exactly what type of effect he had on you. All memories of lingering glances you had stolen of him when you had believed he hadn’t been looking came back rushing to you. You weren’t as sly and discreet as you thought you were.
“It really flatters me,” Xiaojun teased with a smug smile. “Don’t deny it, and come here,” he urged, spreading his arms, waiting for you to run into him.
At first, you were sure Xiaojun was just messing with your head. You believed he was teasing you. You imagined him flick your forehead if you walked into his personal space. It was obvious he was mocking you. There was no way in hell that he wanted you the way you wanted him. You must’ve been seeing things.
“Jesus, woman! Hurry the fuck up,” Xiaojun warned you, losing his patience. “If you’re not coming here, I am coming there,” he added, giving you one last chance for a change of heart. “Screw it,” he cursed, surging forward, trapping you in his tight embrace.
His actions spoke louder than words. All your previous thoughts were gone; Xiaojun wouldn’t have bothered this much to pull a prank on you. He was genuine. Xiaojun held you still in his arms, waiting for you to make a move. He would never try anything without your permission, regardless of how delicious your lips looked.
“Kiss me,” he ordered, and you rushed, smashing your lips against his in a passionate kiss. It was everything you imagined it to be, but tenfold better. You had fantasized about his moment plenty of times, and weirdly enough, Xiaojun’s mouth somehow felt both soft and rough at the same time. “Now, we’re talking.”
You two completely lost it. Hands were running on your bodies as you engaged in a heated moment, relieving your much maddening frustration. It felt amazing, and you wished you could carry on until you both lose all your energy.
“Let’s go to my place,” you mumbled once you pulled away. Xiaojun still held you pressed against him as he waited for you to elaborate, being painfully clueless to your ulterior motive. “It’s much closer from here than yours,” you added, and Xiaojun only smiled dumbly, waiting for you to word your request in an even more ridiculous way.
“Why bother going anywhere when I can have you here?” Xiaojun playfully announced, giggling as his gaze shifted from your gorgeous eyes to the countertop. Almost instantly you realized what his crazy proposition was. Did you really want your first time with him to be on the kitchen island inside the cooking show set? It would be a blatant lie if you said you had never considered this.
“Fuck me then,” you urged, giving Xiaojun permission to ruin you right there.
Xiaojun didn’t waste any time. In an instant, he wrapped his arms around your thighs as he picked you up and gently sat down on the countertop. Except for your pencil skirt, your legs were bare, so you let out a slight hiss once you felt the cold marble against your skin.
Biting your lips, you spread your legs, letting Xiaojun stand right between them.
“You have no idea how many times I’ve thought about fucking you here,” Xiaojun confessed before he leaned forward, stealing another desperate kiss. “You remember that time when we fought over the Oreo cake? I was so hard back then. I wanted to bend you over the counter so bad. I almost didn’t hold myself back.”
“You should’ve gone for it,” you whispered as you remembered that quarrel. That night Xiaojun had been the star of your fantasies when you used your vibrating friend to get yourself off. “I was so horny then. Almost as horny as right now,” you added, pulling him by his funny black tie, melting into yet another kiss.
Xiaojun was getting impatient. It was nice, but it wasn’t enough for him. Having untangled the knot of his apron, he yanked it off his hips, throwing it over his shoulder.
“I want to feel you so bad,” he murmured as he slid his fingers under your skirt, pulling your panties down your legs. “Let me prep you up,” Xiaojun uttered when his digits gently fondled your folds, gliding his knuckle inside of you. The moment you felt him, you let out a quiet moan, enjoying his little ministrations.
Xiaojun knew how to please a woman. He curled his fingers inside of you, stretching you out for his length. With your eyes shut closed, you focused on your pleasure, letting Xiaojun spoil you rotten. Though it was just mere petting, it felt nice as hell. He was getting you ready for his cock, and you basked in simple delight.
“Enough of that; I want you to fuck me now,” you kindly spoke, wrapping your palm around his wrist. “Please,” you added when you noticed how hesitant Xiaojun was of letting go. He planned on making you come first before properly fucking you with his cock, but since you asked him nicely, he decided to give you exactly what you wanted. Though he’d love to tease you some more, your pleading tone seemed to do the thing.
Swiftly, he yanked down his pants, revealing his member. It was standing proud, and you looked down at it, admiring it. Without any doubt, Xiaojun was to make your day.
As much as you wanted to return the favor, Xiaojun didn’t let you. Impatiently, he gave himself a few strokes before he aligned his cock with your entrance, rubbing its tip against your folds. Slowly, he pushed his hard length inside of you, making you groan.
Your grip on the edge of the countertop tightened as Xiaojun filled you up with his erection. At first, Xiaojun maintained a slow and steady rhythm. However, as you kept moaning his name and encouraging him to go faster, his thrusts became more rapid. Quickly, Xiaojun snapped his hips, finding your sweet spot in record time.
“Holy shit,” you exclaimed, feeling the knot inside of you tighten. You were moments away from your peak. Xiaojun’s cock stroked all the right places, pushing you off the edge. “Fuck, I am coming,” you shouted, kicking your head backward, welcoming the bliss that ripped through you.
When you were slowly descending back on Earth, Xiaojun kept chasing his release.
You could feel him throb inside of you. Then, an idea crossed your mind. Until now, it was Xiaojun who did all the work, so the least you could do was to encourage him to fill you up, to talk him through his orgasm.
“You fill me up so well. I came on your cock, and you’re still rock-hard. Do you want me to come again?” You complimented him, spilling filth. Though you weren’t sure if Xiaojun would be into dirty talk, you were certain he was eating it all up. Xiaojun was moaning your name as he snapped his hips, falling out of his even rhythm.
Xiaojun was near. His grip on your thighs tightened as he pounded inside of you, being only a few strokes away from his sweet bliss.
“Come inside of me,” you urged him. It was all it took to make him reach his peak. With a choked grunt, Xiaojun came, buckling his hips as he painted your walls with his release.
You remained silent as Xiaojun breathed heavily, trying to come back to his senses.
“If we’re ever doing it, here, again, I want you to spank me with this,” you commented as you reached for the spatula that sat on the other side of the counter. Xiaojun smirked upon seeing the kitchen utensil, tempted to try it out soon.
However, on second thought, tonight was just good as any other day.
“How about we take it with us over to your place,” Xiaojun proposed, and you cocked your eyebrow, excited to hear his suggestion. “Let’s get you cleaned up first,” he added as he bent down to pick up his apron. His release was dripping down your thighs, so he wiped it off with the fabric, looking rather pleased by the fact that you let him come inside of you.
“That sounds like a plan.”

Night Smoke

A gift to a person who always brings joy to my life, @venranae
Aki didn’t like the silence that would fill his apartment when there wasn’t anyone at home. It would drown him and swallow him whole.
He could never admit it out loud but he enjoyed his subordinates’ company. Their loudness, arrogant arguments, and terrible manners made this empty house feel like an actual home.
“Ahh, that’s my brand!” you snatched the cigarette that was dangling between Aki’s lips and placed it between your own lips as you sat down on the floor table across from him. “Must be my lucky day if you bought my brand!”
“Mine was out of stock.” Although he was caught off guard, he didn't comment further on you yanking his cigarette from him as he pulled out the last cigarette from his pack. He had to buy another pack now. “Busy day?”
“Hmm,” you inhaled deeply at the smoke, holding it in before exhaling. “Had to babysit two brute bastards for the whole day.”
“Where are they?”
You shrugged in response.
“Are they at least alive?”
Another shrug.
“You’re more irresponsible than them.” He was smiling when he said it, taking a long whiff of his cigarette.
“You really think so?” You leaned toward him on the sofa, looking at him through your lashes.
“Well, you’re smoking indoors.” A deep inhale before exhaling, the grey smoke emerged out from his lips before he bit the cigarette gently between his front teeth. His hand reached behind to hook a finger under his hair tie, once he succeeded, he pulled it, letting his hair fall down.
“So are you.” You stared at him dreamily with a dumb smile on your lips.
“It’s my house.” He put the hair tie around his wrist before taking the cigarette between his two fingers.
“Our house.” It was true, you were all like a family.
“You don’t live here.” He grimaced.
“I have my toothbrush here,” you reminded.
“You’re childish and blunt. Why do I even let you inside my house?” He was talking to himself.
“Maybe because I’m taking care of this?” You stretched your leg under the table and pressed your foot on his bulge, gently rubbing it.
Aki deadpanned but you could see a single droplet of sweat forming on his temple before it trickled down to his cheek.
Letting out a soft chuckle you took a drag from your cigarette, exhaling slowly, training your eyes on him. “Am I wrong?”
He didn’t answer, the excess ash from his cigarette between his lips fell on the table but he still didn’t move.
To mess with him, you pressed harder on his bulge with the bottom of your foot, this time he reacted by letting out a sharp gasp, choking on his own saliva immediately after.
“Hey, Aki,” you said, exhaling smoke from your cigarette. “Say something.” You continued rubbing him with your foot and he stared at you all the while. It was quiet. A smirk tugged at your lips when you felt his cock swell up under your foot and under the rough fabric of his pants, “You’re getting hard.”
“No,” he averted his gaze and took a long whiff from his cigarette. His jaw was clenched tight, he was growing harder by the second.
“The bastards are out,” you said, giving his bulge a particular circular rub you knew he liked. “You can do whatever you want to me.”
“We don’t have any condoms left.” He inhaled deeply from the smoke, “Besides they’ll come back soon,” he said as he exhaled. “Get your foot away from me.”
“You never use condoms anyway.” You stubbed out your cigarette on the ashtray and retrieved your foot before getting up. “I’m gonna check on Beam if he needs company tonight,” you sighed, turning around your heels to head for the kitchen. “Hirofumi too, last time when we went out drinking he was quite touchy and even gave me his number.”
Opening the fridge, you stuck your head inside and searched around the bottom shelf to check if Denji had hidden any of those yakults behind the vegetables so Power wouldn’t get to them.
A set of hands landed on your hips.
You froze as the hands gripped your hips tighter, slowly pulling you against his growing erection to grind his hips on the supple flesh of your ass.
He was easy to tease nevertheless of how much he hated to admit it. Only you held this much power over him. Aside from Makima.
As his assigned partner by Makima herself, you were easy to get along with. You were flirty and serious when the time was right. Composed and professional during work but the complete opposite at home.
“Get your hands away from me,” you mimicked his tone from before, pouting your lips as you twisted your body to look at him. The fridge had started beeping, you had to close its door.
Aki ignored your mocking and the beeping sound coming from the fridge as he pulled your pants down abruptly without saying anything.
Letting out a sharp gasp, you gripped on the fridge’s door, shutting it close before making a move to stand straight up but he slouched forward, pressing his chest on your back to keep you in that position.
He was rocking his hips, slowly but seductively. You could feel his bulge poking against your naked skin.
“What are you doing?” you dared to ask when his hands on your hips slid under your shirt and up to cup your breasts.
“Stay.”
The single word he uttered meant many things.
Stay in this position.
Stay where you are.
Stay over the night.
Stay and don’t leave me.
Stay with me.
You were willing to do all of those things, even if he hadn’t asked you to.
“Aki,” you breathed, his hands had gone under your bra, kneading the soft flesh gently. Your hands that were on the fridge’s door to keep your balance went to grab his wrists over your shirt, “My back hurts like this.”
He pushed you forward and took a step to his side. Within barely a second, you found your face being pressed against the kitchen counter.
Giving your tits one good squeeze and massaging your nipples with his thumbs, Aki pressed his hips harder against your ass.
You moaned softly, turning your head to rest your cheek on the counter. One of his hands on your tits moved between your bodies so he could pull down his pants. You wiggled your hips impatiently, breathing heavily until he tugged his pants to release his aching cock.
Once he managed to pull his down to his thighs he guided his cock between your legs. You gasped and arched your back, giggling at his enthusiasm, “You’re being soo eager, did you make a deal with a sex devil or something?”
“Shut up,” he grumbled under his breath, he didn’t want to hear any of your jokes when he was dragging the tip of his cock between your folds, coating it with your juices.
Chuckling you pushed yourself towards him, silently telling him to hurry up.
Aki guided the tip of his cock into your entrance using his hand and moved his hips forward to slide in his entire length inside you.
Moaning, you balled your hands on the counter into fists. You could never get used to his girth. Since it had been a long while since the last time you two had sex, the feeling of his cock stretching your walls was overwhelming.
He stilled inside you, taking a deep breath as your insides were clamping on his cock but once he collected his breath, he fixed his posture and placed his hands on your hips. Pulling his hips back, he pushed them back frenziedly, earning an audible moan from you.
Immediately starting a pace that was strong enough to make everything on top of the counter shake, he started fucking you almost frantically. With each thrust he took your breath, stroking all the good spots along the way.
His thrusts were becoming more fierce if not desperate. He wanted you more than you wanted him. Having to hold back because he can’t lose his composure or because you two are never alone, he was pent up from all of it.
Now that he had you wrapped around him like this, he could let out all of that build-up, lose himself within the pleasure, and indulge in your slick heat.
Aki grabbed a handful of your hair to pull it. Having your head lifted up like this, making your back arch completely, he could thrust in deeper in this position. Using his hands on your hips, he slammed you onto his cock at the same time he was snapping his forward.
You let out a mewl in pleasure, toes curling as soon as the tip of his cock hit a sweet spot. His name left your lips in a silent prayer, needy and begging.
Aki was more than willing to give you more.
He picked up speed, his hips started moving uncontrollably, each thrust filled with force and desperation. There was no point in holding back when you were asking for him not to.
Your legs were becoming jelly as you started dissolving into pleasure, you reached a hand between your legs to toy with your clit. You chasing after your euphoria by rubbing tight circles on the sensitive nub, made your walls pulsate around his cock, clenching around him.
Aki moaned lowly at the sensation and his hips haltered, he let go of your hair. He tentatively pulled back and snapped his forward at the same time he was slamming you onto his cock. This time was last though, he shoved himself as deep as he could inside your cunt and you felt him throb inside you moments before you felt his balls twitched against your skin.
He spilled his seed inside your womb and continued fucking his cum into you. Drops of cum started gushing out from your pussy, dripping onto the tile floor. He slouched forward and his hands on your hips slid up your sides before he wrapped his arms around you.
A smile tugged at your lips and although you wanted to face him to hug him as well, you knew he wouldn’t embrace you if he was looking at your face. His pride of not wanting to show others his true feelings would never let him. So, you let him wrap his arms around you until he broke the hug.
~~~
While you were in the shower, Aki wiped the mess he had made in the kitchen. He wanted to smoke but since he didn’t have any cigarettes left, he had to go out to buy a pack.
After grabbing a jacket, he quickly opened the door.
On the other side of the door were Denji and Power, sitting on the floor. As soon as they heard the door open, they were back on their feet. “Can we come in now?” Power whined.
He paused and stared at them in confusion, Denji was holding a milkshake from that burger place down the street. “What?”
“(name) gave us money to buy hamburgers and told us to wait outside until she opened the door to let us in,” Denji yawned and stretched his spine until there was a satisfying crack. “We’ve been waiting for an hour ya know, where’s she?”
Aki was dumbfounded, he didn’t say anything because he was speechless. He only nodded and moved away from the door, gesturing for them to get in the apartment.
“Finally!” Power cheered with a fist up and ran inside with her shoes on. “Nyako! Nyako, I’m home!”
Aki didn’t even bother to yell at her as he heard the cat meow from somewhere in the apartment and Power’s laughter.
Denji raised a brow, “Ya good?”
He nodded, slowly. “Yeah, I’m gonna go buy cigarettes.”
“Alright,” Denji walked past him and inside the apartment.
As soon as the door closed behind him, Aki slapped a hand on his forehead and dragged it down. Now, he really needed a smoke.
Can’t leave me behind
Word count: 1668
Genre: Fluff
Pairing: Natasha x reader
Warnings: None (lmk if I should add any)
Request: Could I request natasha x reader with actions 1 and 9 from the prompt list? (1 - Person A finding excuses to hold Person B’s hand, 2 - Person A and Person B are best friends but somehow start to get feelings for each other)
Summary: Natasha holds your hand to prevent you from rushing ahead of her and it’s all you can think about.
A/n: Thanks anon for requesting and sorry that it took me so long to actually write this! Btw this is from a prompt list I no longer use. Wow this one actually didn’t take too long to write! And I’m back on track in terms of writing fics so I’m happy! Anyways, you hear enough of me rambling in the a/n, enjoy the fic!
“Where to now?” You ask as you both exit the small coffee shop you frequent.
“Well I thought that instead of going straight back to the tower we could take a detour through the park, I heard there’s a farmers market going on right now.” She tells you. “But we could just go straight home if you want to.”
“A farmer’s market sounds great!” You say excitedly, immediately walking in the direction of the nearby park. Natasha gives a small smile at your cuteness before covering it back up and taking a few quick steps so she’s walking beside you.
The park is only a few blocks away and the farmers market is much bigger than you imagined it would be. Tents line the path selling freshly grown fruits and vegetables, bread, baked goods, honey, meat and some independent food vendors. There are also a few tents that look to be selling jewelry and bags instead of food. Immediately you’re at the first stand looking over the selection of freshly picked berries. Natasha catches up, huffing in annoyance at you. You ignore her, continuing to look over the berries before picking the best of each type; blueberries, raspberries and strawberries.
“Can we get them?” You ask, giving Natasha the best pleading eyes you can.
She sighs, giving in easily. “Fine.” You pump your hand in the air in victory, missing her smile about how cute you look. She quickly pays the owner of the stall and then follows as you search for another place to go.
“Ooooo can we get cookies?” You ask her when you see the bakery stand because the cookies look amazing.
“Of course!” She replies. “Why don’t we go to the juice stand because it’s closer first…” She trails off as she notices that you’ve already made your way to the stand, leaving her behind. She shakes her head at how excitable you are, talking to the person working there enthusiastically, pointing out different cookies.
“Y/n!” She admonishes lightly when she arrives at the stand.
“Sorry.” You tell her, unapologetic. She shakes her head but then buys the cookies you want, plus extras for the team. You almost feel bad that she’s paying for everything but you want cookies so you aren’t going to complain.
“You need to stop running off.” She tells you when you start to walk away, already leaving her behind as she puts the box of cookies in her bag with the berries. “From now on you’re staying with me.” You open your mouth to retort but all that comes out is incomprehensible babbling because she grabs your hand and holds it, not letting go.”
“What-what is that for?” You ask when you regain your normal speaking abilities.
She smirks. “Well now you can’t rush off without me. Do you have any problems with this?”
“No.” You squeak, happy to hold onto her hand.
“Good.” She replies, starting to walk and lead you around the market like nothing is wrong. You don’t even feel the urge to run off again because you honestly can’t pay full attention to anything but Natasha’s hand around your own. She keeps holding it as you go around to stands and doesn’t let it go even on the walk back to the tower. Although you probably should have gotten used to it after the first few minutes you still can’t concentrate as you get on the elevator with her and make your way up to the avengers area.
“Woah, woah, woah, Natasha and Y/n are holding hands!” Tony announces as soon as you step out. Embarrassed you drop her hand.
“It’s because I kept leaving her behind so she didn’t want me to run away again.” You explain, your cheeks burning.
“Are you sure it’s not because you’re in love?” Tony asks, singsonging the word love. Natasha keeps her composure as always but you nearly choke.
“I’m going to give Bruce a cookie, bye!” You blurt out leaving the room as fast as you can.
“I did not see her holding any cookies.” Steve says, confused by your antics.
Natasha laughs. “That’s because she wasn’t.”
“No. We are not changing the conversation.” Tony butts in. “You were holding hands with Y/n.”
“And what about it?” Natasha counters, raising an eyebrow delicately, something she knew the entire team was jealous of.
“What about it? What about it?” Tony splutters. “The black widow doesn’t just hold hands with people! Are you guys dating?”
“Not yet,” Natasha admits, “I’m dropping some hints before I officially ask her out because I want to be sure she likes me, I can’t ruin our friendship over some one sided feelings.”
“I may not know much about love but Y/n is head over heels for you Natasha.” Steve assures her. “She is always happy around you.”
“Not to mention how flustered she gets.” Tony replies, helpful for once.
“I’ve been noticing more and more, so should I just go ask her out now?” She asks.
“Go for it.” Steve encourages and Natasha smiles, nods and begins to walk towards the door.
“Good luck Romanoff!” Tony shouts after her. “Go get your girl!”
---
“Bruce, hi.” You say, out of breath from your run to the kitchen where you found him.
“Hi.” He replies, bemused.
“I brought cookies!” You bring up your hands to show him, realizing in horror you had forgotten them. “I’m so sorry, I accidentally forgot to grab them from Nat.”
“It’s okay.” He chuckles. “Maybe we could go get them now?”
You shake your head violently. “No, nope, no, no, no, no, no. We definitely can’t do that.”
“And why not?” He asks.
“Because I ran away from her.” You reply, feeling a little embarrassed about that now. Natasha had obviously noticed, she notices everything so you just hope she doesn’t ask about your strange behaviour.
“And you ran away from her because…” Bruce prompts, wanting to hear why although already suspecting the general reason.
“Because we were at the farmers market and I kept going ahead of her so she held my hand to keep me beside her but she didn’t let go and it made me feel nervous but it felt so nice and then Tony and Steve saw and asked if we were in love so I left quickly because I’m sort of maybe in love with her.” You ramble, not taking a breath.
“Okay, calm down.” Bruce instructs. “Do you want to tell her you’re in love with her?”
“Of course not.,” you reply, “I’ve kept it hidden for months and I’m not going to stop now. I’m not going to lose my best friend over some one sided feelings.”
“Sometimes being truthful and open is better in the long run.” Bruce says and you guess it’s supposed to be smart but you are way too scared of Natasha’s reaction to tell her.
“Yeah ok.” You respond sarcastically. “What am I supposed to say? Hi Natasha, I just wanted to let you know that you holding my hand makes me flustered and unable to think because I’m in love with you. By the way I’m sorry I ruined our friendship.”
“Um, I think I’m going to go now.” Bruce says and you look at him confused. He gestures over your shoulder to the doorway where Natasha is standing.
“No, no, please stay.” You beg, and he hesitates on his way out.
“Please go Bruce.” Natasha says, pleasantly but firmly and with that he leaves, giving you a thumbs up behind her back.
Natasha takes a step further into the kitchen and you take a small step back. She takes another and you step back again, gulping. She tilts her head the the side and you can’t see what she’s thinking.
“I make you flustered?” She asks and you nod, knowing there’s no point in hiding it anymore. “And you love me?” You nod again, looking at the ground, the lights, the salt that’s on the counter, looking at anything just to avoid looking at her.
When you finally look back she’s closer, much closer, just a little bit more than an arms length away. You step back again, you can’t breath. She steps forward, a big step and you try to move back but the counter blocks you. Technically you could go to the sides but you’re not thinking rationally right now, all you can think about is Natasha getting closer and closer until she is close enough to touch.
“Are you flustered now?” She asks, her voice low and flirty, nothing you’ve heard directed at you before.
You feel your face start to heat up. “A little.”
“Hmmm, only a little huh?” She asks rhetorically, stepping in so her body is only an inch from yours. “I’ll have to fix that.”
You don’t know how to respond but you don’t have to because before you can think she’s leaning in and her lips are on yours and you can’t breathe again. It’s the best thing that you’ve ever felt and you close your eyes to focus on her lips against yours. All too soon she pulls back and you pout at the distance.
“What about now?” She asks.
“I-I, you, it, kiss what.” You respond, your brain not catching up to the situation.
She smirks. “That good?” You nod in reply, not trusting your mouth again. “Well then how about we go on a date? I’ll pick you up tomorrow at six from your room, wear something nice.”
She doesn’t bother waiting for a reply, striding from the room with a level of confidence you could only wish to have. You’re left staring at the doorway with a loopy look on your face, startling when Tony walks through it.
“I see you’ve talked to Natasha.” Is all he says, before casual grabbing a snack and walking out. Leaving you to your thoughts which have returned to being coherent. A smile spreads across your face, you have a real date with Natasha!
SF9 when they are in the mood but you are busy in the kitchen
NSFW alert
Drabbles right under the cut. Have fun!
➹ Youngbin:
Our leader is not the type to interrupt you often, but these special behaviors manifest from time to time. Has your boyfriend just slapped your butt out of nowhere? It means this and this only: he wants you so badly. Whether you are going to abandon your task or not, it is up to you, but the man stands quiet and close to you, his mischievous smile cannot be dirtier.
“What do you want?” you can ask just to be sure.
“You already know, beautiful.”
Once you take your hands off the dishes, he hooks you by the waist, the water still dripping from your hands as you both lean on your sides to the sink. His leg intrudes between yours and the closeness makes you aware of his hard-on. You simply grab his neck with cold wet hands, a minimal thermal shock on his warm skin. “Am I disturbing you?” he asks cynically with his hands making their way down your body.
The two of you start making out standing in the kitchen, but once you cannot keep inside your clothes anymore, you run to the bedroom.
➹Inseong:
This one arrives with a bear hug that almost fools you as an innocent approach. The move is not enough to stop your activity, even though his arms are crossing your front and consequently limiting your movements. When he is the needy one out of you two, his cheap chatting disappears. Inseong rather observes you silently, the way you shape the cookies with a form and arrange them on a large board. Until he cannot take it anymore and kisses the area right under your ear, the click of his lips sounds sweet at first, but he whispers a straight “I want you”
“Can I finish it?” you say just to tease.
He purrs a bit bitter and uncrosses his hands from your upper arms to your chest. "Finish if you can".
He takes his time grinding on your back as your neck is abused. You make out a little more, maybe sitting on a chair, but you will not finish in the kitchen.
➹Jaeyoon:
He often grins at you when he is in the mood. The passionate smile that he shows you after a long day makes him a hundred times sexier.
“Are you coming to help me or?” you do not finish your question. It was not necessary.
“The second option.” He answers and extends his arms in your direction, so he can separate your hand from the knife you make use. He leads your hands on his body and induces you to hold his member through his pants, so your appetite increases to match his.
Probably wants you sitting on the table with him between your legs. This dude does not mind getting fully naked beside the vegetables you were intent on chopping earlier.
➹Dawon:
Okay, he is extremely likely to come back from the gym in the mood for it. We know that Sanghyuk has been enjoying himself and feeling very proud of his body. Exercising gets him wanting to thrust into you as you say he is hot, that he is the best man you have ever had.
At the moment he sees you working so diligently in the kitchen, he apologizes beforehand, and then starts sucking on your neck.
“Don’t say no, sweetheart.”
His fingertips reach your scalp as he holds your head, tilting it to the side. He definitely is going to leave marks on your skin. You both end up removing your clothes while your lips fight taking turns at sucking random parts of your bodies.
➹Rowoon:
If you’ve read my Sf9 eating you out post, you know that I’m hype to give more thoughts on Rowoon with his girl in the kitchen.
Rowoon is the type to look for exposed parts of your body to toy with even when he is cool. But when he gets aroused his touches get a bit demanding. In any case, this man is conscious enough to ask whether you are okay with his hands cupping your breasts from under your shirt.
You can struggle to keep working since he obviously will not be satisfied at only touching you with his hands.
His tongue wets your shoulder, he makes a short path with it before whining at you for not giving him enough attention when he could simply drag you away from that household duty.“Can I touch you down here?” he suddenly asks with his large hand ready to glide your pants zipper down.
He draws you to give up and let him do whatever he feels like. Expect tons of oral, at least two orgasms and both of you rushing to the bedroom when he cannot wait any longer to be inside you.
➹Zuho:
I honestly cannot see him beating on the bush to get you away from the kitchen.
“Pretty girl, You know I can gladly do everything for you after a quickie.”
You cannot help a deep and noisy sigh, since you know the sex he is referring to as a quickie is going to last quite a lot. You know how wasted you’re going to feel when he finally decides that it was worthy. Even so, you look right into his vampire-like eyes and nod. Yes, he mesmerized you.
He connects your mouth to his in a harsh kiss, pressing your noses together until he pulls back all of a sudden “You won’t regret it, honey.”
➹Yoo Taeyang:
Taeyang asks what you are doing although it is way obvious. “And are you gonna take much to finish it?”
If your answer is positive, he gets so bitter. Probably makes a grimace without noticing, which makes you worried. “Do you wanna talk, Taeyangie? Are you okay?”
He stares at you, then looks away at your hands clearly having an inner debate. He finally reaches you to fiddle with your blouse strap and answers “I don’t need to talk, but I won’t be fine if you don’t come with me to the bedroom.” As he finishes his explanation, his frontal teeth sink in his bottom lip, making him irresistible.
You start to grind to one another right away, trying to find some ground on the wall or maybe against the refrigerator. You might take some clothes off but the climax is gonna take place in the bedroom.
➹Hwiyoung:
His entrance into the kitchen is slightly hurried, but once he sees you are preparing something complex to eat, he slows down and ponders. You are still clueless and he can just give you a fake excuse. He almost ignores his nasty thoughts, but steps back.
“Princess, I really appreciate your cook skills, but I don’t want you to cook right now.”
You furrow your eyebrows and look at him with a confused expression.
“I’m so sorry, I really feel like fucking”
Your previous concern fades away into excitement as he walks closer, Youngkyun has just gathered assertiveness to take the fouet that you held and make you grab him instead. “Let’s do something together before I help you with this recipe” he suggests in a throaty tone, drawing your attention to his lips.
He sits in a chair pulling you on top of him and you ride him right there. his hips buck up a few times but he loves having you imposing your own pace on a chair.
➹Chani:
He starts trying to convince you to give up on cooking “Why don’t we order food?”
“Again?” you ask without even look at him “I miss my own seasoning. Don’t you?”
He might press the space between his eyebrows in disbelief, then ends up spilling the truth.
“I miss another thing from you.”
If you were in fact giving him attention, you would notice his dark eyes almost stripping you off. He figures out the need to making a list to convince you.“Okay, baby, I miss your naked body on mine, I miss your hands on my chest when you ride me, I miss your lips around my…”
“My gosh, Chani. Ask me to fuck already.”
He shrugs and pushes you against the wall, his hands settle spread wrapping on both sides of your neck. You see him angling his head to capture your lips, then you do not see anything else. He is extremely likely to slide his member into you standing right there.
First Drop
Pairing: half breed vampire Draco x fem!reader/pureblood!reader
Requested: I’m a big sucker for vampires so can you pretty please do something about Draco being a vampire and he ends up drinking from the reader
Warnings: mentions of small injuries, blood, throwing up, very heated make out
A/N: I couldn’t find exactly what vampires in Harry Potter are like so I’m just winging it with all the vampire shows I’ve seen all mashed into one, and since I’ve gotten a few comments about it I’ll start putting more specific stuff on imagines. If I have time I’ll go back to all the other stuff I wrote and fix them as well. This is a bit long, but I figured it would make up for all the headcanons I’ve done cause of school.
Summary: Draco’s true identity is only known by you
———————————–
Draco had never felt this way before in his entire life. The hunger he felt within him was one that he couldn’t put into words. His entire life he had been able to ignore this side of him. Being told he was a pureblood to then have it ripped from him was rattling. His mother tried keeping the truth from him, surprised to see no signs of his true father coming through. It hadn’t been until you visited during the summer that there was any sign of the dormant side in Draco.
You’d both been play fighting as usual, rolling around outside on the grass while Narcissa watched over you from the front door. It only took one wrong shove that sent you to the ground scraping your palms that left little droplets of blood catching Draco’s attention. Draco couldn’t take his eyes off of your hands, and you hadn’t missed him licking his lips as well as him looking as though he was about to drool. He looked like he was about to attack you, but Narcissa shouting something you couldn’t hear left you shocked when he flew across the other side of the yard.
Helping you clean up inside before sitting both of you down, Narcissa was muttering nothing but curses to herself. Keeping the long story short she explained how Draco was really a halfbreed vampire. You squeezed Draco’s hand reassuringly when you saw him tense up next to you. Even though they both knew you wouldn’t blab, they swore you to secrecy. You were there with Draco through it all. His cravings were never bad, and he refused to drink human blood, so it made it easier to keep a secret. That had been until today, when it seemed that not even his fake substitute could satiate his cravings. Before he lost it on any of the students he all but forced himself into your room despite others saying he couldn’t be in the girl’s dorm.
“What’s wrong?” You asked immediately when you saw the almost pained look on his face. You stood up, walking over to him and grabbed his face in your hands making him look at you. “Draco, talk to me.” You whispered, caressing his cheek.
A surprised gasp left you when two fangs made themselves known by pushing their way past Draco’s closed lips. It seemed to shock him too, and he pulled away quickly. Narcissa made it known to only you that this would happen eventually, you just hadn’t expected it to be so soon. Both of you knowing that Draco’s distaste of the thought of actually feeding on someone made her only tell you that the substitutes would only last so long before his teeth grew in and he’d want the real thing. You promised you’d be there for him, and you meant it in every way you possibly could, even if you knew it would risk you getting hurt in the process.
“I’m thirsty. More than normal.” Draco seethed, hugging himself making your eyes soften.
“It’s okay.” You assured him, pulling him to sit on your bed. “We knew this was going to happen.” You muttered and shook your head.
“You knew?!” Draco exclaimed, making you jump.
“Draco it was for your own good. You couldn’t even think about feeding on anyone.” You explained and his face showed his disgust at the mere mention. “See?” You pointed making him shoot you a look.
“Just distract me then. I don’t want to… do that.” He explained, swallowing hard.
“You’re going to have to eventually.” You explained softly, placing your hand on his thigh to soothe him. “It’s nothing to be ashamed o-” You tried but he shoved your hand away.
“Distract me.” He demanded through gritted teeth making you sigh and shake your head.
“I always liked reading about vampires when I was younger you know.” You stated, both of you scooting up further on your bed to get more comfortable.
“You did?” He asked, pulling you closer to him making you nod.
“I never knew why I was so fascinated by them.” You shook your head with a laugh, sitting next to Draco on his bed. “I mean I found it intriguing but… to the extent I relate…” You rested your head on his arm, smiling when he seemed to pet your head.
“Relate how?” Draco asked, pulling you closer.
“The feeding part of it…” You trailed, all the times Draco had come to you for the substitutes that you could only give him filling your mind.
“You couldn’t possibly relate to that.” He scoffed pulling away to look down at you.
“Draco I understand that it’s hard.” You explained, holding his face and gently caressing his cheek.
“I don’t think you do. Not with this.” He protested making you roll your eyes.
“I understand the hunger, and I definitely understand the feed.” You explained making Draco look at you with confusion written on his face. “Draco it’s not hard to understand the hunger you’re feeling. I’ve seen you drink things that remind you of blood.” You continued making Draco shake his head.
“That’s not the same as this.” He shook his head making you scoff and sit up so you could face him.
“So it isn’t the best most comforting feeling you’ve ever felt? It doesn’t make you feel whole? Make you feel like you’re filling the emptiness that you have inside of you?” You asked, making Draco’s shoulders tense up a tad. “How about when we warm it up sometimes? You basically drown yourself in it.” You taunted, and Draco’s mouth was watering at the thought. “You’re going to tell me it doesn’t feel good to have it warm your insides that feel cold? I see it, Draco. You love being greedy with it. Love the warmth coating your mouth and throat while you basically chug it until it’s all gone.” You continued making Draco’s chest rise and fall quicker.
“I need it.” He croaked out, pushing you a bit further from him. He wouldn’t admit he’d been thinking about feeding even before the hunger came. Wouldn’t admit that the only person he ever wanted to do it with would be you.
“It’s not going to work anymore.” You shook your head giving him a sad smile. “Not the way you need it to.” You said making his stomach churn.
“Well you have to let me try.” Draco pleaded, but you shook your head. “Y/N please.” He tried again and you sighed, nodding before you stood up.
“If it works I’ll keep giving it to you, but if it doesn’t…” You explained handing him the bottle.
Without another word Draco all but ripped it open, almost unhinging his jaw to guzzle down every last drop. You watched with curiosity, hoping that it would work. When Draco finally lowered the bottle you both smiled at each other. Relief was on his face for two seconds before a pained look took over and Draco reached for your trash bin before the entire contents of the bottle had come back up.
“No.” Draco almost pleaded softly while he hunched over.
You rubbed his back, not saying anything. You didn’t know what you could say to make him feel better, the only you knew would help he wouldn’t like. Before you could open your mouth to finally say something Draco shrugged you off and grumbled all the way out of your room. Half of the day went by before Draco returned to your room. He’d looked even worse than he had that morning, and he couldn’t stand it anymore.
“Draco you can’t fight it anymore. It’s just going to get worse.” You sighed making him grumble next to you.
“I don’t want to feed on someone. That’s gross. I don’t even know where they’ve been.” He explained making you scoot closer.
“You know where I’ve been.” You whispered, putting your hand on his. “Let me help. You can feed on me.” You tried soothing him with your thumb rubbing his knuckles, but it only caused him to stiffen and almost jump to his feet.
“No! Absolutely not!” Draco yelled, making you flinch in surprise.
“Why not? I’m offering, you don’t have anyone else who can do it. I promised I’d be here for you and I am not going to break that promise now.” You stated firmly, making Draco’s eyes narrow.
“You know I don’t want to feed on anyone.” He explained making you roll your eyes.
“Enough is enough Draco. Please.” You rubbed your temples before looking at him. “Stop being a child who won’t eat their damn vegetables. You need this okay? It’s not something you can avoid anymore. We gave you all the time we could, but you have to accept the truth now.” You explained.
“You’re comparing yourself to a vegetable?” Draco hissed making you shove him.
“You know what I meant.” You scolded.
You watched Draco slowly sit back down next to you. You held your breath, waiting for him to hopefully say he’s and put himself out of his misery. Your hand reached out before you could stop yourself, but you pulled it back last minute so you wouldn’t pressure him. He let out a sigh, wiping his face before looking over to you.
“It’s supposed to feel good right?” Draco asked nervously.
“I don’t want to lie to you. It’s in everything I’ve read, but so many people say it’s a myth. I’m not sure.” You explained, becoming nervous when he inched closer.
“If it hurts I’ll stop.” He explained and you nodded. The closer he got, the faster your heart beat and you held your breath. “I-if it really does feel good.” Draco started with a shaky breath, his hand coming up to hold your face. “I want to make you feel good before it, so maybe you won’t realize…” He explained, his voice wavering while he caressed your cheek.
“What?” You breathed out, staring into his eyes. You didn’t know if it was from the way he was touching you, but you felt like you couldn’t understand anything that was happening.
“You’ll see.” He whispered, leaning in before pulling you in for a passionate kiss.
Draco’s lips moved against yours slowly and your eyes fluttered closed and started moving in sync with his. It wasn’t long after that his tongue was running across your bottom lip making you part your lips slightly. Instead of his tongue exploring your mouth like you expected, he pulled your lip between his teeth and gave it a small suck causing you to moan into the kiss. He pulled away slowly, and you couldn’t help but lean forward to follow him. Your eyes fluttered back open and the look of hunger on Draco’s face had become more evident than before.
He brushes his lips against yours before placing a small kiss on the corner of your lips. You couldn’t help the small smile that formed on your face when he started kissing down your cheek and to your jaw, nipping gently. Your breathing was coming out in pants, your hands coming up to hold onto Draco’s shoulders. Your nails dug in when he started sucking and you let out a moan when his teeth grazed your sweet spot.
You’d expected him to go for it right there, but a whimper left you when he only continued to suck harshly on the spot. Draco had completely forgotten about feeding due to all of your noises. He couldn’t help but want to make you feel even better. His tongue flicker over your sensitive skin and you pulled him even closer.
“Draco.” You whined when he started sucking below your ear.
He hummed against your skin, kissing his way back down your neck, and that’s when he froze. His nose was brushing right against your pulse and the hunger seemed to hit him full force. His heart started racing, and he almost ran out of the room. He never wanted to feed on anybody, yet here he was about to sink his teeth in your neck. He wanted to run, but he couldn’t get himself to move, instead he held you tighter and pulled you closer. Without another though he let his instincts take over.
“Oh Merlin.” You cried out when his teeth broke skin and he held you in a death grip.
Your head lolled back as a moan escaped you, and Draco let out a small possessive growl while he continued to suck greedily. Despite his grip on you, your toes were curling at the feeling that was going through your entire body. Your breathing was coming out irregular, whimpers leaving you when he seemed to bite harder.
“Draco.” You mumbled when you felt yourself become lightheaded. Your hand limply came up to grab his hair, and you gave it an unsuccessful tug that was merely you running your fingers through his hair before you held on. “Draco.” You whined, trying to move out from under him, only to earn you being pulled closer. “Draco stop.” You pleaded, and he finally seemed to hear you.
“I’m sorry.” He breathed heavily, pulling away from you, looking down at you with a guilty look on his face. “I got carried away I guess.” He rubbed the back of his neck, and you couldn’t help but smile.
“It was your first time, it’s okay.” You explained, letting your hand lazily come up and wipe the blood that was falling down the corner of his mouth. “You’ll just have to practice.” You whispered, your eyes going wide when he pulled your thumb into his mouth and licked the blood clean.
“Yeah… practice.” Draco nodded and pulled you in for a small kiss before he stood up. “Get your rest. I’ll bring you something to eat and drink.” He kissed your forehead gently before leaving your room without another word.
Eye of the Beholder
Warnings: Poor body image (?), slight angst, a little envy, a lot of fluff, and implied sexy times
Summary: Jensen is feeling less confident in himself lately and you think you know why. He has always been there for you, now you just need to show your husband he has no reason to be.
Pairing: Jensen x Reader
Word Count: 1470
Written for: @breakthezone first quarter challenge, which was to choose one of two prompts. Mine is bolded below.
Beta’d by: @amanda-teaches, cause she is the best
A/N: So you know the pictures, the spread, the article in THAT magazine, featuring that beautiful soul, and that would cause any man to think less of himself, but I thought, what would go through Jensen’s head and how would I help him through it.
Like Jensen’s Warmth? Buy it here from @scentsfromthebunker!
The cold snowy mountains were a stark contrast to the warm flatland of their home state, but Y/N was loving the quietness and solace of the northeast. Y/N pulled into the snow-covered driveway and started unloading the groceries. She planned accordingly and for weeks at a time; they didn’t have many delivery options out there.
“Honey, I’m home! What do you say you come help me carry in and put away all this food and I make you a nice, juicy porterhouse for dinner?” Y/N called from the kitchen as she dropped the load on the counter. “Honey? Jay?” The house was mostly silent but then she heard it. The distinct smack of fists and feet hitting the heavy bag Jensen installed in the home gym. She sighed knowing this was the third day in a row Jensen had spent hours in the gym, working out until he was ready to drop.
Y/N brought in the rest of the bags, stored the food, and changed her clothes. If she was going to join him in the gym, at least she could participate. It wasn’t like it was a hardship watching her husband in only a pair of shorts, his freckled skin dripping with sweat.
She brought fresh water with her, setting it on the weight bench. He was breathing heavy, sweating, and red-faced. Jensen was not out of shape by any means, but he somehow had gotten it in his head that he needed to get into better shape. Maybe it was the pressure of becoming Soldier Boy, maybe it was that he was approaching his “mid-forties”, it could have been a few things, but Y/N thought she knew exactly what had prompted this new obsession. “Hey, honey.”
“Hey, babe,” he rasped, his breaths heavy with exertion, his hair soaking. “Just a few more minutes.” He landed another two punch kick combo.
“Jay, you have got to take a break. You can’t keep going like this, hours a day, day after day,” Y/N pleaded with him. “This is enough for today.”
“Yeah, okay. Maybe you’re right.” He stopped, hugging the bag tightly, holding on as he tried to catch his breath.
“Go shower, I’ll get dinner started, okay?” Y/N smiled, kissing him softly.
“You got it. I’m pretty sure I reek anyway.”
Leafy greens and brightly colored vegetables covered the kitchen island as Y/N chopped and sliced away. The cuts of meat were sitting out to warm up before grilling, and a nice bottle of a full-bodied red was breathing on the table. Jensen emerged from the hallway leading from their bedroom about thirty minutes later, looking a little worse for the wear. He pressed a sweet kiss to her cheek, swiping a handful of peppers, too.
“I saw that mister,” she smiled, leaning into his touch. “But I’m gonna let it slide just ‘cause you smell nice.”
“Better than before?”
“Oh, way better,” she laughed, turning and wrapping her arms around his neck. “Want to tell me what’s going on in that pretty head of yours?”
“Nothing, babe. Just trying to stay in shape. I gotta get in that custom suit in a couple of weeks, and I ain’t getting any younger.” Jensen looked down, running a hand over his face, scratching at his beard.
“That’s all, huh?”
“Yeah, just running isn’t gonna cut anymore. I have to keep up.”
“Keep up with…?”
Jensen pretended he didn’t hear Y/N as he started helping with the salad. If he ignored the question, maybe she would let it go. It seemed to be working, for now, so he went with it, and continued to help her with dinner.
“Jay, these look perfect!” Y/N gushed as she cut into the steak. She placed the bite in her mouth, the flavor exploding, and she moaned around it. “Oh my god, it's practically melting in my mouth!”
“You made it easy with a superb cut of meat, babe,” Jensen shrugged, digging into his salad and grilled vegetables.
All through dinner, Y/N noticed how he barely touched his meat or wine, but took extra helpings of the healthy stuff. She decided she would let it go, wanting to enjoy their meal, but soon enough, the dishes were cleared and leftovers stored.
“Jay?” Y/N asked, rinsing the plate in her hand before handing it to her husband. “Can I ask you something?”
“Babe, you can ask me anything, you know that.”
“And promise me you won’t get mad?”
“I won’t get mad, but now I am a little suspicious,” Jensen raised one eyebrow, looking over at his wife.
“Does your new workout regimen have anything to do with Jared’s spread in Men’s Health?”
“No.” Jensen protested immediately.
“Jay…”
“Maybe,” he sighed, throwing the towel on the counter, then he turned, leaning against it. “Am I...soft?”
“Soft? I think you are the kindest, most generous, loving man I’ve ever known,” Y/N replied honestly. “I am lucky I found you and even luckier that you love me.”
“Well, thank you for that, babe, but I was asking about my physical appearance,” Jensen hung his head, his voice getting quieter as he talked. “Do I have a ‘dad bod’?”
“Jensen Ross Ackles, you listen to me right now. You have never looked better and you are in the best shape of your life. You just completed a 15 year run on the most successful sci-fi television show in history, you are stepping into an iconic role that you were hand-picked for, and if a ‘dad bod’ looks like this, then yes!” Y/N gestured to her husband while rambling on trying to make her point. “No, you know what? Come here, come sit down with me. Bring the wine.”
Y/N sat down with her laptop, intent on showing her husband the proof he needed to believe her and believe in himself. Jensen sat down next to her, handing her a fresh glass, as she pulled up photo after photo on the screen.
“Do you see what I see?”
“No, I see a skinny kid from Texas with no hair on his chest and barely-there abs,” he scoffed.
“Okay, you still don’t have chest hair, but what else do you see?” She prompted him again.
“A pudgy mid-section and that was before I turned 40!”
“Do you want to know what I see?”
“You’re biased.”
“You’re damn right I am, but I do know that your fans, the Dean-girls, well, they’re not wrong. Did you know that according to several fan sites, you and Dean have way more fans than Jared and Sam? And are you telling me that millions of people are wrong?”
“Millions?” he asked skeptically.
“Okay, well, maybe not millions, but a lot! But I see a man that is in better shape than he was twenty years ago. I see a skinny kid from Texas too. But I also see a man who now is in the best shape of his life and way sexier than that skinny kid.. What is it that you’re always telling me when I complain about my baby muffin top or my thunder thighs?”
“That bodies come in all shapes and sizes, and beauty isn’t defined by your body shape; it’s defined by your soul and you are the most beautiful woman I have ever laid eyes on.”
“Okay, and I usually argue with you when you do, but that doesn’t mean you’re wrong. We are our own worst critics, you know that. But I see a healthy body and strong arms. Arms that hold me better than any others on the planet. Arms that hold our children and comfort them when they are hurt. I see a sexy mind and a stunning soul, one that was made for me.”
“Okay, I think that is enough wine for you,” Jensen reached for the glass, but you moved it out of his reach.
"Have I entered an alternate universe or did you really just crack a smile for me?"
“Fine, it could have been a smile.”
“Oh yeah?”
“Yeah, my exceptionally sexy wife made a pretty good point.”
“Oh? Tell me more.”
“Well, she may also be the smartest person I know. She always knows just what to say when my dumbass is being, well a dumbass.”
“Yeah, I am pretty damn smart. Because you know what else I did? I made arrangements for your visiting parents to keep the children overnight so they can swim until they pass out.”
“Wow, that is pretty smart. You know, I’ve been working out and I bet I could carry you all the way upstairs without breaking a sweat.”
“Oh, you’re on Ackles, but you are wrong about one thing.”
“What’s that?”
“We will definitely be working up a sweat!”
"Oof, this wasn't your greatest idea, you know that right?" You sighed anxiously, hands on your hips.
"I've done many things that weren't so great, sweetpea," Joel wiped his wet hands on the cute little apron around his waist after he put the vegetables he had cut into the bowl which was on the counter next to the cutting board: "We both know it, but this totally ain't one of 'em."
He carried another bowl to the dining room where you stood, gave your exposed neck a brief kiss as he passed by. Kiki and Ward were going to arrive anytime now for Joel's infamous dinner plan. When he put the bowl down, he scanned the table with a puzzled expression: "Why are there two more plates?"
You leaned your weight on one leg as you grabbed the edges of the chair, which stood at the head of the table: "I... invited Tommy and Maria over, too–"
Joel's expression made you feel guilty: "(Y/N)."
"What?" You spoke defensively, a nervous expression on your face and tone to your voice. "It was going to be awkward as shit otherwise."
"You don't know that," He growled. "Not when you pull stunts like this."
"I don't care," You emphasised each word, exhaustion present in your stance. "Better safe than sorry, Joel."
He nodded disapprovingly and walked back to the kitchen as you stood there, your head hanging with a sigh. You slowly raised it up, hands on your hips again, then turned your head to the side just enough for him to hear you over the sound of the steamer: "I'm sorry."
"No, you're not," He said when he walked past you, carrying the last piece of dish to the table. His anger wasn't for nothing, you accepted what you did was an ass move.
"You're right." You huffed, which made him look at you. "I'm not sorry for inviting Tommy and Maria over, but I am sorry for upsetting you."
His tense stance eased slowly at your words, then he proceeded to mirror your chair holding pose, huffing quietly: "Well, one of us is gon' have to eat less, I'm more worried about that."
"I'll gladly volunteer, I lost my appetite." You rubbed your eyes, which sported dark circles underneath them– which worried Joel.
He stepped closer to you, reaching for your hip with his dominant hand and began rubbing soothing circles there: "No. You eat. Don't think for a second I didn't notice how you started eatin' less." This whole ordeal was getting to you more than you cared to admit. It had been eight days since your decision to arrange dinner with them, but it clearly didn't escape Joel's notice. You looked down, ashamed, running a hand through your hair nervously: "Hey, look at me," Joel gently took your chin between his fingers and lifted your head up, his nose inches away from yours. The three knocks on your door didn't stop him from saying: "You're worryin' over nothin', sweetheart. It's gonna be alright."
"We'll see," You looked into his eyes with a blank stare, gulping, giving his hand a light squeeze before walking to the door, collecting yourself in the meantime. From the small windows on the door, it wasn't hard to tell the brunette couple had arrived. You took a deep breath as you opened the door with a sincere smile: "Hello there– Come in, welcome."
"Hi!" Kiki grinned and Ward just offered an awkward resemblance of a smile.
After escorting them to the living room, you spoke: "Joel's getting finished in the kitchen, then we can have dinner."
"Joel's cooking?" Kiki gave you an alien look. It wasn't a my goodness what a man I bet he cooks real fine tone, but more a genuinely confused one.
"Uhm, yes?" You lightly flinched but smiled still, equally confused at her question. Giving a brief look at Ward, you noticed how he was staring hard at her and she was pointedly ignoring him. "Don't worry, he actually cooks better than me... haha."
You stared into each other's eyes for five seconds, both of your irises reflecting a pair of question marks at each other, then she let out an odd laugh: "Oh! If you say so... What a beautiful garden you got– Lots of flowers."
"Why, thank you," You smiled a little nervously. "I like taking care of flowers and plants..."
"Oh really? I do– did too, once upon a time..." Kiki did an exaggerated smiley face. "I should bring you some, then!"
"That's very kind of you," You felt yourself soften a little at her words. "Well, how have you both been? Feeling like you two are fitting in? I hope people aren't giving you trouble."
"Oh," Kiki looked at Ward for the first time, who's gaze was focused on you now. "No, I think we started to fit in better–" Ward nodded in agreement, his head turning in her direction: "Gets better every day."
"That's good news," You quietly huffed out a breath of relief, nodding at her words, which was when Joel walked in to greet them, and also when there was another pair of knocks on the door. This time, thank God, it was Tommy and Maria.
The dinner went without a hitch, to say the least. Although it had it's awkward moments, Tommy and Maria always picked it up one way or another. Delicious meals were eaten and wines from your collection with Joel were opened– it was pleasant to a certain degree. You and Joel sat across each other on the other ends of the table, Maria and Tommy sat to your left while Kiki and Ward sat to your right. Kiki was seated by your side, but she mostly had her attention on your husband. She didn't drink, but Ward did, and after his second glass, he seemed to relax more.
When it was time to carry all the plates back to where they came from, Joel and you carried the first party. When you placed them in the sink, and he on the counter, he softly grabbed your hand: "See? Wasn't that bad, was it?"
It sort of was, for you anyway, as much as you tried to calm your nerves with the wine: "Thanks to Tommy and Maria, yeah." Joel sighed through his nose and looked away for a moment: "What?"
"We'll talk about it in the morning." Joel let your hand go, but didn't move away.
"What is there to talk about?" You spoke, frustrated, your arms opening slightly in a gesture. Right then, your eyes moved over his shoulder to the doorway. He turned around to see it was Maria with two of the rect platters in her hands.
"Joel, why don't you go back? (Y/N) and I'll handle it from here." She spoke as she walked over to where you two were, then placed the platters on the counter. He gave you one last look before nodding and walking back inside. As soon as he left, Maria stood very close to you and turned on the water: "You wanna tell me what's going on with you?"
"Not really," You quickly started to wash the plates and she helped with the leftovers.
"(Y/N)," Maria spoke more seriously. "There's obviously something wrong–"
"I didn't say there wasn't, I just don't wanna talk about it right now." You said, turning your head to her a little but not looking her in the eyes. "Please, Maria, I appreciate you and your concern, but–"
"Mind if I help?" Kiki suddenly appeared with more service in her hands, startling you both.
"Not at all," Maria replied in your stead. "I'll leave you two to it, I need to use the bathroom."
You closed your eyes, exhausted, then begged for patience as Kiki replaced Maria's place next to you. She kept a distance, which you also appreciated. After a brief moment of silence, she spoke: "The food was delicious, I'm surprised Joel helped you prepare all of this."
You tried– God knows your tried not to look for a double meaning behind her words, but you failed: "Well, as I said, he cooks better than me."
"No, I mean, he just really helps you around, y'know? Serving, preparing, cleaning..."
You turned to face her, closing the sink, and took a proper look at her: "What's so weird about it? We're partners– Married– There's no helping out, we do it together, as it should be."
"Oh, don't get me wrong," She said after a while, her smile unsettling. "It's just that, I always do the cooking, and preparing, and cleaning. That's what I was taught, while Ward..."
You bit down on your tongue hard as you finally understood what she was getting at, the realisation making you blink once and long, then look away. A silent oh left your lips while you thought about how to respond, forcing a small smile to your lips: "Well... Uh– Why don't you go back, I'll take it from here."
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah, I got this, you're our guest, after all."
She smiled and nodded, heading back. As soon as she turned around you let out a silent, heavy breath, looking a little bewildered and disturbed at the things she had said. You stood still for a few moments, then ultimately decided to wash your face, so you took it up to the bathroom.
When you woke up the next morning, you had a mild headache from the wine, no doubt. Joel was nowhere to be found, which had you worried for a second, then you realised it was near noon. After washing your face, you dragged yourself downstairs and once you made it to the kitchen, you found Tommy, Eugene and Joel sitting quietly at the table.
"Mornin' princess," Eugene grinned at you, a cup in his hand. Joel and Tommy had more serious, even a little worried looks on their faces.
"Hey," You waved at them and dragged your feet to the cupboard where you kept your coffee, only to find you had ran out of the beans.
"How're you feelin'?"
"I'm fine... What kinda question is that?" You chuckled.
The brothers shared a brief look before Tommy slowly got up, walked towards the island counter and leaned against it with his elbows: "Listen, (Y/N), we're all a bit worried about you."
"I'm not!" Eugene said clearly. "I mean, I am, but not in the way they are– What's going on with you and the newcomers?"
You stared at the brothers, hard, then turned to Joel: "Is this the new town gossip, then?"
He huffed, crossed his arms across his chest and leaned back in his seat: "It ain't nothin'. We were talking about last night," He gestured between himself and Tommy. "Eugene overheard, expressed his own worries 'bout them and wanted to talk to you."
You felt so exposed –out in the open– with the spotlight moving onto you once more. Your eyebrows furrowed as Joel held your gaze for a while, the other men too scared to interfere; until Eugene spoke: "Look, (Y/N), I get what worries you, even if these two bimbos will say there's nothing wrong. I'm here to vouch for ya."
"Thanks," You shrugged and nodded. You felt embarrassed at the three pairs of eyes waiting for a response from you– speaking to Eugene alone about what actually worried you would've made you feel much better, but you just told them about the interactions between you and Kiki. The more you spoke, the more frustrated you got, which ironically made you close up more.
"Which reminds me," He said some time after you mentioned her offer to bring you a flower. "Do you have, uh, mugwort in your garden?"
The abrupt change of topic caught you off guard, but you still said yes, I think so and walked out from the back door, the old man tailing you. The sun immediately burned down on your skin, but a gentle breeze lightened the load on your shoulders as it accompanied you to the edge of the garden.
"Look, I don't actually need mugwort," He said when you sat down on your knees. "If you wanna say something to me that you think they won't understand, now's your chance."
You moved on with your digging quietly while he waited, then finally, without looking at him and venom dripping from every word you spoke, you sighed: "Kiki has eyes for Joel."
Eugene coughed loudly at your cold words, a hand on his chest: "Shit, (Y/N)..."
"Everyone, including Joel, seems oblivious to this– I'll probably get accused of petty jealousy if I tell them, but since you've had your fair share of weird run-ins with her, I think you should know."
He remained quiet for awhile as you worked with the plant, then finally huffed: "That's not a jealous face from what I can see, it's the face of a woman who's sensing something's gonna go wrong."
You finally looked up at him, your cold expression turned soft because of his sympathy, then looked back down: "I'm losing sleep over some stupid– bitch– God, I was... I've been trying to convince myself that it's nothing, but–"
"It's not nothing, (Y/N)." Eugene spoke firmly, grabbing your shoulder and giving it a reassuring squeeze. "Something's clearly not right with those two, and you've a right to get worried, 'cause I'm guessing it's not just Joel you're worried about."
You gulped, wiped some sweat off the corner of your brow with your wrist, then nodded.
"Well," He took the plants from your hands. "Thanks for this, and, just know that you're not alone. If you ever wanna talk more about this, you know where to find me. Don't be a stranger."
You did pay Eugene a visit a few days later to talk more about them. You felt more comfortable talking to him alone, and you were talking to him because you didn't want to add more to Joel's tension and strain your relationship again. It also felt good to just talk about the whole thing and have someone who understood you.
You had told him that you had no doubts about Joel's intentions, but about Kiki's and hers alone. He had told you he understood and told you that his door was always open if you needed to talk again, so you went to him a second time in a cool afternoon after Kiki had appeared out of nowhere.
"Flowers! As promised!" She smiled brightly, giving you a tiny bouquet of mixed, yellow flowers.
"Oh, wow," You carefully took the bouquet from her, smiling at the sight and feeling genuinely happy for a moment that she actually did something like this. "Thank you, Kiki."
"Don't mention it," She smiled sincerely and initiated smalltalk, then went about her business. After you closed the door, however, reality came crashing down.
You went to see Eugene then: He had just returned from patrol, so the moment you saw him, you grabbed him and went back to your house. A very old book you owned, The Meanings of Flowers, laid on the dinner table while you sat at the head of the table again, the older man to your right. Beautiful flowers rested above the book, a pair of each: Carnation, hyacinth, marigold, rose and tansy. You already knew the names of the most thanks to your free time activities, so finding them in the book wasn't particularly hard.
"Damn, (Y/N), you're really gettin' into this, aren't you?" Eugene said when you first explained and laid the flowers in front of him as he sat down.
You read through the pages and sat across him. "I think... I have, uh– What if she's asking for help?"
"How do you mean?" He gave you a look, and when you stared at him a while, he slowly got what you were saying. "You... think that too?"
"It's so obvious," You sighed, a sad expression on your face. "It's the only logical explanation for the way she responds to physical touch. There's more to it than what Ward told me about their past."
"You're right," He huffed, troubled. "Alright, let's see what carnation means."
"Each colour represents something different, but yellow..." What you read made you tense up.
"What?"
"Disdain."
You gave each other a look, then you continued to other flowers: "Hyacinth– Yellow hyacinth is... jealousy."
"Do these even grow in Wyoming?" Eugene was as disturbed as you were. You just shrugged, but you were thinking more about how she came to find these in the first place.
"Marigold– Jealousy, despair... Rose, yellow– Jealousy and..." You gasped shortly, eyes widening at the word.
"What, what is it?" Eugene turned the book to himself a little and his eyes widened slightly as well.
Infidelity.
"Maybe... Maybe tansy means something else?" Eugene flipped the pages as you burned a hole through the table, stunned where you sat. "Hostile thoughts, declaring war... Shit."
He stared at you as you slowly raised your head up and gave him a nasty look, whispering angrily: "Who... Who does she think she is?"
"(Y/N), I– I don't," Eugene knew, like yourself, that this could've been just pure coincidence, but all of the flowers representing almost exactly the same things inevitably had him worried and at a loss for words.
"That little bitch–" Your fists flexed into a fist, your brows drawing together, creating deep lines on your forehead.
"Don't freak out," Eugene grabbed your elbow in a calming gesture.
"She wants him–? She wants a war? I'll give her something worse, she'll regret ever setting foot in–"
"What's going on?" In between your heartbeat ringing in your ear and loud, angry words, you didn't hear Joel come in. Your head snapped towards him, eyes wide open and angry, then turned your head away towards Eugene.
"I think it's best if you sit down." The older man said uncomfortably.
He obliged, never looking away from you as he did. He was clearly worried, careful, but also cross; it wasn't hard to tell, and you had hoped he wouldn't see what you were up to, but alas...
"You know who brought me these?" You asked, focused at something outside the window.
"I have an idea." His eyes were burning through the side of your face, the tension crushing everyone in the room.
You chuckled bitterly. "You must think I'm crazy."
"I think no such thing," He growled, offended by your accusation. "You don't sleep well, you don't eat– Your worryin's making me worry!"
"The thing is, Joel," Eugene intervened. "She has a right to worry."
He finally looked at him with an exhausted expression: "What?"
"Each of these flowers have meanings in this book right here," He tapped the book. "And they're not good meanings at all."
"See? This is what worries me," He leaned back, crossing his arms. "You're gonna check everything she does or gives?"
"So you want me to stay oblivious to– to things, while Ward is probably physically absuing his wife?" You snapped, your head turning in Joel's direction to meet his quizzical expression. You got up from your chair, leaning in with your hands on the table: "If she was meaning to send a message to us with these flowers, asking for help, and we ignored it? That'd be on me."
"How could it possibly be on you?" He replied angrily. "How would she know that you'd– decipher this message?"
"I told you that I told her about–"
"Enough!" Eugene growled. "She sent her a message, despite what could be happening in their household." You sighed heavily and turned your head to the side, Joel glancing at Eugene as he continued: "All these flowers have one thing in common, Joel, and it's that they've bad meanings. This one?" He held up the marigold: "Jealousy. This one?" The hyacinth: "Also jealousy. And this?" The rose: "Jealousy... as well as infidelity."
Joel leaned back, an irked look on his face: "Wh– What?"
"Tansy– Hostile thoughts." He coughed into his fist as he put the flower down.
"So don't sit there–" You looked at him again, leaning in with your head: "And tell me that I'm worrying over nothing. Just because you have no clue about what's going on around you, doesn't mean it's not happening." You gulped, the barbed wire around your throat present once more, then picked up the book and closed it: "Thanks, Eugene."
He just nodded with a concerned look on his face and watched you walk upstairs. Joel, stunned in place, didn't say a word as the older man got up, tipped his head at him and left. He sat there for some time, by himself and stared at the beautiful flowers. He hadn't seen you like this since the Axel case– sure, you both had ups and downs but it had never gotten this bad since then. To prevent another fall out, he knew this time he had to be a little more alert for both of your sakes, if your accusations were indeed true.
But you both needed to co-operate if something was going to be done about this.
It was close to a week later when Ward opened up again.
Joel and you were a bit tense, even after when he suggested the next day after the flower incident that you both went to Maria to change your patrol schedules. She had said Joel only had one more patrol left with Kiki, while you still had three to go with Ward, which was okay for you especially after you found out that Joel's last patrol with Kiki was a group sweep which involved you too.
Joel was more than relieved too, thinking maybe change of patrol partners will finally ease the tension between you and him, but it seemed you'd remain upset until that last patrol was over with, which was the day after your current patrol with Ward.
You were taking a different route this time, on horseback and it was in the afternoon, a chill breeze was present which took the burning feel of the slowly setting sun off your shoulders. The trees were offering shield from the sun with their shadows, too.
"I overheard people talking about you and Joel."
"Really?" You rolled your eyes. "What were they saying?"
"Something about... having a child."
You turned your head and gave him a stern look, but it wasn't directed at him, then you sighed, the grip you had on your reigns tightening: "It's none of their business."
"Exactly what I told them."
"What?" You turned to face him again, the whip of your head smoother than before, and your voice was softer– surprised.
"I told them to stop talking about something which wasn't their business," Ward casually explained. "They then told me that I had no business listening to them, so I threatened to break their jaw if they didn't shut up."
"Ward..." You gave him a look of disapproval.
"Kidding," He offered a small smile. "Leave out the threatening bit, but it did cause a little argument. Maria was there though... organising this event that's coming up. She defended you, too."
You hadn't taken him to be the type to stand up for people he didn't exactly know: "Ward I–"
"Sorry though, don't know who they were–"
"Thank you."
He blinked, equally surprised at the smallest smile on your lips: "Oh, well..."
"Not many people would do that, I appreciate it," Your grip loosened and you allowed yourself to relax a little. "People tend to get ahead of themselves sometimes."
"Inconsiderate, that's what they are." He growled, but his face was thoughtful and troubled exactly like when he told you of his background. "It just– Gets on my nerves. This whole... baby talk."
"You and mine both," You huffed. "It's just funny how people who have almost no connections to me and Joel talk about it, when him and I haven't even put it out on the table yet." It was true. Neither of you had even said the word out of its nickname context.
"I just hope they won't force you to have one."
You turned your head to him with slightly wide eyes: "How do you mean?"
He remained quiet for a while, probably debating on whether he should share what he meant or not – if he should listen to his needs and get it off his chest, or add more to the bottle when there was no space left in it. He finally spoke: "Kiki had to lie, so that they wouldn't separate or punish us. I was too... paralysed to speak when she said We want to have children out of nowhere. Said that it was the only reason why we decided to date and get married. We had been together for just five months."
A sick lie to get out of an equally sick situation, which normally would've made you feel sick, but in this fucked up world and having done the equally fucked up shit you did, you couldn't bring yourself to feel nauseous; however, it did make a shiver run down your spine, the situation reminding you of the Seraphites in Seattle when an escapee had arrived in Boston, months after the fall of that QZ. She had told horrifying stories about how her and five other people had barely made it past them: They had witnessed 'religious sacrifice's, and the manslaughter from The WLF hadn't helped their case either... She had committed suicide a month after her arrival in Boston.
"By then we started to regret our decision more, because they were forcing us to– To have a child–"
"Hey, look, you don't have to tell me–"
"We lied–" He continued, feeling though as if he wasn't going to get another chance to open up again. "For a long time, it was maybe we're not lucky enough, or God's not willing. They... They went as far as to consider fucking exorcism, and it was all on Kiki, and her alone."
You thought for a moment he was going to cry, with the way his face scrunched up, but he kept going angrily: "I told them it could be biological, they told me she was cursed... I told them, maybe the problem was me, they insisted it was her... Until they finally needed proof that we were actually– You know–"
"God," You quietly gasped.
"I don't– We tried to break up, to end the madness, but they wouldn't listen. I had never touched Kiki other than kisses and hugs, while we were lying to them about– She was a virgin and so was I–"
He stopped for a brief moment when his horse whinnied, you were getting closer to the tall walls surrounding Jackson, then continued hesitantly: "She– finally got pregnant, after a whole year of deceiving them, but the stress of it got to her, I think. She... she miscarried." He gulped, closing his eyes tightly, an unpleasant look on his face. "You can imagine how it was received around the community– We had to run, you see, so we did."
You had reached the gates by then, it was Joel who was at the watchtower and waved at you as you waited for the doors to open. You waved back with a worried look on your face, which he must've spied through his binoculars. After bringing the horse into the stables and handing back your rifles, you stopped him. It was unusually quiet and empty around the southern gate, which was normally empty anyway: "Listen, I just wanna say–"
Before you knew it, a stuck gasp left him. His back was to you, so at first you thought he saw something, but as soon as you stepped to his side: "Ward," He was crying. "Oh– Hey, it's okay..."
He whimpered until he ran out of breath, covering his face with his hands. You didn't know how to react, internally panicking and carefully studying his body language, while feeling like a dick about it. You slowly and carefully put a hand on his back, and at the touch, he immediately collapsed by your feet. He was weeping now, and too close for comfort. You quickly looked around to see if anyone was there, only to find out not a single soul was in your line of sight, except for the slowly and suddenly approaching figure of your husband.
"Ward, get up," You lightly shook him by the shoulder to get his attention, but this only resulted in him leaning closer to your legs. You raised your head to see Joel had come to a stop a couple of feet away from where you stood: "Get. Up."
"You said– You said–" He struggled with trying not to cry and breathing at the same time.
"I said there is a group session if you needed to talk," You spoke, defeated, feeling Joel's burning gaze on your eyelids. "I'm sorry for what happened. I really am, but you need to get up."
He looked up at you to meet your stern, pitying gaze, then wiped at his tears. He nodded a couple of times and slowly got up, sniffling quietly. Without saying another word –even though he looked like he wanted to– and sparing you another look, he readjusted his backpack and walked away as if nothing happened. You stood there and watched him leave with your hands on your hips, then let out an exhausted sigh. You were just thankful that you weren't murdered for the most part, irked because of his sudden breakdown, but you also felt like shit scolding him as you did.
"You wanna tell me what the hell was that all about?" Joel. And he neither sounded pleased nor amused.
"You think I have an idea?" You gave him a hopeless look. "Man just– Suddenly told me the rest of his story and broke down, I don't–" Joel stood with his arms crossed, within your 6 feet radius, but there was nothing soft about it.
He was expecting an explanation, and an explanation he got: "That, Joel? That's what fucking scares me! I hear the shit they went through and I listen to it, waiting for the time he's going to get to the part where I did something to him or someone he cared for– waiting for the time they're going to shoot me or stab me– or you! And then they get like– like that, or do something nice to us, and suddenly I feel like an asshole because they're not bad people in the end, they just need some fucking help!"
You breathed heavily as your hands remained open at your sides after all the gestures and motions, your chest rising and falling very obviously as small sweat and tear droplets rolled down your face: "And they're seeking help in all the wrong places, from the most unsuitable people. I don't know about you, but I'm not mentally capable of taking their load while I have my own to deal with."
Joel took in a short amount of breath, as if to speak, but immediately closed his mouth. He stared into your eyes for what felt like 30 minutes, searching for something– you weren't quite sure what. He looked angry, upset, worried and heartbroken all in the same time.
Finally, when he couldn't speak, you added: "If anything happened to me, I could live with that." You spoke calmly, nodding curtly: "But if anything happens to you? I'll tear this whole goddamn town apart and make sure they can't find a place to hide from me."
Your fidgeting, unfocused eyes suddenly found Joel's hazel ones; you saw through all the anger, fretting and upset at that moment.
It was such an adoring, lovely gaze– Bit by bit, it drained you of all the hate and other ugly emotions pressing down your shoulders; a great sense of solace overcoming you as his big, warm hand cupped your jaw. He leaned in to steal the softest of kisses from your damaged lips– subconscious biting had seen to that, but Joel's softer ones made up for the loss on your side.
Before he could give you the chance to debate on whether you should hug him or not, he pulled back, his hand on your cheek still: "I won't let anything happen to you– To either of us. I promise you." You stared into each other's eyes for another moment, then he placed a most gentle kiss on your temple: "I made some dinner for you, go and eat for me."
You nodded, eyes lowering to the ground, then slowly walked away. Joel was quick to take notice of your broken stance– slumped shoulders, slowed steps and, ah, there goes the hand through your hair. He knew, then, that he had to put more effort into understanding how you viewed the couple and respecting your feelings. Sure, you were prone to worry and overthink, but so was he. Nothing, as far as he knew and had seen, had gotten to you like this before. Something ought to be wrong for you to beat yourself up over it as you did.
But despite everything –despite him still not seeing the way you saw the couple– you were, of course (and without question), his priority. He trusted you and your judgement, and it had always been so.
He just hoped it wasn't too late to show you that.
Christmas Lies
Pairing: Chris Evans x Assistant!Reader
Request: I was thinking of Sebastian Stan/Chris Evans x (assistant) reader where reader is originally from another country and is living alone and is going to celebrate the holidays and made up an excuse that she's celebrating with someone and is in the middle of prepping her Christmas eve dinner and was caught red handed that she's celebrating alone?😅😅
Word Count: 1.8K
Warnings: cussing and some cliche fluff (the title may fool you but yes this is fluff)
A/N: Hello my loves! Wooo another request, I hope I did this justice and sorry if this sucks. I am a little late for a Christmas fic but hey its still the Christmas season right? Anyways here is a cute Christmas fic for y’all (Merry late Christmas, Happy Holidays, and Happy New Years!) As always please lemme know if you wanna be tagged in my future works and feedback is very much appreciated. This is unedited so don’t mind those mistakes.
Tis the season right? Yeah the season for stress and anxiety. A season where people had to find the perfect gifts for one another and hope that their gifts weren’t sold out. Luckily for you, you didn’t have to worry about that. Moving to the United States from your home country over two years ago it seemed pretty lonely, but more freeing than ever. You didn’t have any relatives that lived in America, but occasionally some would fly over to visit you. Sadly this year you were alone for the holidays. Your parents won a vacation to the Bahamas for the holidays and your older brother was expecting his first born anytime now. The rest of your family had various holiday plans and wanted to celebrate in your home country. So yeah, this year you were going to enjoy your own company.
“So do you have any plans for Thursday night?” Chris, your boss asked you.
“What’s happening Thursday?” you asked looking at him with confusion.
“Y/N, it’s Christmas Eve!” He exclaimed with a big smile.
“Oh fuck. Umm, well not really.” you shrugged.
“Well you already know my plans. I gotta go to that party my brother wants me to attend.” Chris huffed out.
“Speaking of your brother, I got a call from him asking you to bring a date to said party.” you said to the man.
“Why don’t you come with me.” he said with a smirk.
This wasn’t the first time Chris has asked you to come with him to parties. Hell he asked you every time he was invited to one, but you always turned him down. He was your boss for crying out loud, wouldn’t it seem inappropriate to bring your assistant as your date? But, you weren’t gonna lie that the man was attractive, sweet, and you may or may not have a crush on him. He’s fucking Chris Evans. Shaking your head trying to think of a cover up of your actual plans for the night, which was nothing, and rejecting his offer just because well you don’t even know.
“You know what, my cousin from my home country is actually visiting for a bit before she heads off to see her boyfriend in Hawaii.” you lied telling the man. Why were you lying again? Right, saving yourself from embarrassment.
“Oh, well that’s nice of her to stop by. I bet you’re gonna make a big feast.” Chris mumbled as he sipped his cup of coffee.
“You know I’m not gonna quit Y/N, you’re gonna have to go on a date with me someday.” he teased nodding your way.
“Yeah whatever.” you breathed out while rolling your eyes focusing back on your work.
*Christmas Eve*
You were glad that the nearest grocery store was still open for you to grab some last minute ingredients for your dinner. Making a random stew recipe you found online that sounded pretty good and some brownies for dessert. Right when you got home you started making your brownies, from scratch, and once the batter was complete you put it into a tray and in the oven. You went to your room to change into your black Nike spandex shorts (since you haven’t done laundry and this was the only thing that was clean) and an oversized sweatshirt you stole from your brother before you moved to America. You weren’t trying to impress anyone since you were again alone for the holidays. Heading to the kitchen you began cutting the vegetables for your stew and boiling the broth when you heard your doorbell ring.
“Please don’t be carolers. Please don’t be carolers.” you muttered to yourself crossing your fingers as you walked over to the door. When you opened the door you saw your boss standing in front of you wearing a black suit, looking handsome as fuck. “Chris, don’t you look nice. What are you doing here?” you said without any expression to the man.
“Y/N, you’re looking festive without pants.” he smirked, staring at you up and down.
“Fuck off. I’m wearing shorts underneath. Seriously, why are you here?” you asked again.
“I ditched my brother to hang out with you and your cousin.” he said smiling.
“Oh thats so nice of you, but you didn’t have to come all this way.” you said trying to change the subject.
“What, that's ridiculous. I also forgot to give you your Christmas present.” he stated showing the nicely wrapped box that he hid behind his back. “Where is your cousin by the way?” Chris asked, trying to peek around your apartment.
“Oh, Mel? She’s in my room video chatting with her parents.” you lied pointing behind you.
“Aren’t you gonna let me in?” he asked.
“Yeah, sorry. Where are my manners.” you said moving out of the way for him to enter your home.
“Thanks.” he smiled as he stepped in again looking around your place. “Um, Y/N.” he said.
“Yeah, what’s up?” you asked as you shut the door behind you.
“Something smells like it's burning.” he stated looking back at you.
“Shit my brownies!!” you yelled as you ran to your kitchen. You put on your oven mitts and took out the burnt dessert and placed it onto your countertop. “Damn it!” you exclaimed.
“You forgot to put a timer on, didn't you.” Chris chuckled as he walked towards the kitchen bar island.
“Shut up.” you huffed shaking your head.
“Hey Y/N.” he started, drawing your attention back to him and not the burnt disaster. “You said your cousin was here right?” he asked.
“Yeah, why?” you replied, not really paying attention to him placing the burnt tray in the trash ans cute veggies in a pot.
“Well two things. One, why is your dinner table set up with only one plate. And two, your bedroom light is off.” he said pointing at the table behind him.
“Fuck.” you whispered underneath your breath as you looked up at the man. “Maybe Mel fell asleep?” you said with a shrug.
“You lied!” he exclaimed looking at you. “You sneaky shit! Why did you lie to me?”
“Because you’re my boss and I can.” you sassily said back with your hands on your hips.
“Y/N.” he said more sternly.
“Fine.” you said as you raised your hands in defeat. You walked around the counter towards your couch motioning Chris to follow you, which he did. “I lied because I didn’t want to go with you to the party.”
“Why not?” he asked, crossing his arms.
“Because. I don’t know. Isn’t it a little inappropriate that your date to a fancy party is your assistant?” you sheepishly asked averting your eyes from the man that sat next to you.
“Y/N, that’s a bullshit reason and you know it.” he cursed at you. “Tell me the truth.”
“Fine!” you said, taking a deep breath. “Honestly Chris, I kinda have a crush on you and I didn’t want to look stupid in front of your celebrity friends.” you shrugged looking away at the man.
“Now that wasn’t so hard was it?” he said quietly and he gently grabbed your chin to make you look up at him. “I’m glad you told me the truth Y/N.”
“What no snarky remark? No cheesy comeback?” you questioned.
“Nope.” he said with a smile.
“That’s it?” you asked looking into his greenish blue eyes.
“Yup that's it.” he smirked, staring at you.
“Hold up. I just confessed to you, my boss, that I have a crush on you and you’re not goin-” you started, but was cut off when you felt lips crash into yours. As Chris pulled away your eyes were still closed and your mind was in disbelief. Slowly opening your eyes, you stared at the man in front of you.
“Umm..did that..What just?” you were slightly panicking. Chris noted the panic. So he leaned in again and kissed you. This time you were aware that your boss was kissing you. Holy shit your boss, no fuck that CHRIS EVANS IS KISSING YOU! His eyes were closed and his hands were placed at your waist. As he began to pull away, you put your arms around his neck pulling him back towards you to deepen the kiss. The two of you pulled away, your foreheads still pressed together as you looked into each others eyes.
“Wait is that your Christmas tree?” Chris teased, still staring at you as he pointed at the small tree on the ground next to your record player. You leaned back and turned your head to look at your tree.
“Yeah, what’s wrong with it?” you asked, looking back at him.
“It’s kinda pathetic.” he joked, placing his arm over the back of your couch.
“Hey! That was the first tree I bought when I moved over here!” you yelled in defense playfully punching his arm.
“It’s cute is what I meant to say.” he chuckled, rubbing his arm.
“Whatever.” you said shaking your head. “Are we gonna talk about that kiss?” you asked.
“Why don’t you open your present first?” he replied.
“You're ignoring my question, but fine.” you huffed out a bit irritated. “Wait, did you wrap this?” you asked, looking at gift wrapped in green paper.
“Actually you did a while back.” he said rubbing the back of his head. “I was hoping you forgot about it and luckily you did.” Chris added chuckling.
“I don’t deserve whatever this is Chris. I didn’t even get you anything!” you exclaimed with wide eyes.
“That kiss was plenty enough.” he grinned towards you.
“Shut up, I’m serious.” you sighed and looked down at the gift.
“Stop moping and just open the damn thing.” Chris said, lifting your chin up and pointed towards the present.
“Alright fine.” you stated back, slowly undoing the elegant wrapping you worked so hard on. As you opened the present it was a box that said ‘Thank you for helping me get my shit together!’ You laughed at the note looking back at Chris.
“Open the box.” he smiled trying to hold in his excitement. You opened the box and inside was filled with confetti paper and a card at the center. You took the card out saying ‘I kind of sort of maybe like you a lot’ with a heart underneath. You looked back at the man who nodded signaling you to open the card. Inside of the card it said ‘will you go out with me? P.s. here’s $100 for you. No pressure;)’ A hundred dollar bill was taped at the bottom of the card.
“Is the money a bribe?” you asked.
“Nah, it's just for reassurance.” he answered chuckling. You laughed and took out the bill from the card.
“I went through all this work, wrapping a present beautifully, just to get one hundred dollars in return.” you said seriously.
“Well, if you don’t like the present I can always take it back.” he said upset.
“Chris I’m messing with you.” you smiled as you pulled him close to you placing a kiss on his lips. “I would love to go out with you.” you said.
“Oh thank god!” Chris exhaled pulling you close into a hug.
“I better be getting more money outta this relationship!” you teased as you were engulfed in the man’s embrace feeling the vibrations of his laughter.
“KEEP YOUR CAT IN CHECK!”, was the first post-it on your door from an angry neighbor after Small Tinkle managed to scratch the neighbor’s door.
“STOP THE FIRE ALARM”, was the second post-it on your door after you had accidentally managed to set the fire alarm.
And since then, there was silence. Although, the smell of the luxurious cooked meal would waft around the hallways at times and you could hear the clattering of crockery too. You had seen him, once. Once when you had to be stuck in the elevator with him after having a shopping spree. He looked like he hated you. After all, the whole time, he did not look at your side, even once and ignored your presence altogether.
Caitlyn was a good friend of yours. To be said, she was the one who listened to you at times like this. She bothered herself with your business and you couldn’t ask for more.
You could easily admit, you were not even near as lucky as Caitlyn when it came to guys. In a room full of people, if someone like Harry had to walk in, he would easily choose Caitlyn, while you would be left behind in the shadows.
She was kind, beautiful, cheerful, and without a second nature. When it came to studies, she was super intelligent. School, music, dance, cutlery, martial arts, and love, she was good in everything. While you could find nothing good about yourself, she was a walking prodigy. You did feel self-conscious when you were next to her. People who you assumed hated you, were kind to her. You didn’t feel like you belonged by your side.
So, today, you were in the cafe you both always met, all alone. You thought it was fair for her since she was stuck with you ever since college started. You even thought the chances of her getting a guy had gone low since she was stuck with you.
When your phone rang, you jumped a bit at the sound. It was Caitlyn.
“Hello?”, you asked, wondering if everything was okay.
“Are you at the same cafe as always?”, she asked through the phone.
“Yeah, is everything okay?”, you asked.
“Is it okay if I bring over the guy I have been seeing for a few days? I want him to meet you”, she sighed at the other end.
You were in a frenzy mode, though. Your hair was all over the place and your skin was blotchy. It wasn’t like you had put in an effort for your looks like Caitlyn did. You were in a gray shirt with mud brown jeans and you wondered if the guy would leave Caitlyn because she had a friend like you.
“I--I mean, if you feel comfortable enough”, you said, knowing there was nothing you could do.
“Alright, we are nearby so we will drop-in in 5 minutes”, she said hanging up the phone. Your glasses were getting foggy due to the steam of the coffee nearer to your face.
You didn’t really feel confident in yourself. Black braided hair, purple rimmed glasses, a copy of a country-themed book by your side, and coffee that looked near beige due to the amount of sugar you used.
Would her boyfriend really like you?
It didn’t matter though. It was their thing.
When the bell at the door chimed, you looked up to see the fair-skinned, blonde, navy blue-eyed girl, that you had always adored and then, there was the guy who lived next door to you.
In a minute both of them approached you, Caitlyn with her big smile and him with just a small one. But when he looked at you, you wondered if he even recognized you.
“Hey Y/n, this is Harry. And Harry, this is Y/n, the most important person in my life”, she said, giving you a big hug.
“Y/n? Aren’t you--”, he stopped mid-sentence as Caitlyn looked at him expectantly. “You look awfully familiar”, he mentioned, looking closely at you.
“Y/n here is very shy around new people. But, she is cool when you get to know her”, Caitlyn babbled.
“Really? I am waiting to get to see her cool side”, Harry laughed along.
“Y/n, I have told you enough times to not braid your hair. You look beautiful when your hair is open, you know? ”, she said, waving a spoon in her hand as Harry called out in the order.
“I just feel comfortable when the hair is out of my face”, you mutter lowly.
“Well, whatever suits you”, she said, dropping her shoulders.
“So, may I ask why your fingers look toasted?”, Harry asked, noticing the burns you had.
“I was just cooking something”, you lied.
Ever since the last post-it note, you had been dropping variety of sweets at his doorsteps anytime you could. Sometimes cookies, sometimes pastries, sometimes jelly. You didn’t want to know who the sender was, since he might get irked off and throw them in the dustbin. You didn’t know what he did with the sweets though, but not seeing them when you returned to get you relaxed for a while.
“Y/n, are you okay?”, Caitlyn asked, noticing the change in energy.
“Yeah, I just have a bit of stress. Miss Evelyn asked me to submit the homework as soon as possible, but I haven’t even started”, you replied.
“Is Miss Evelyn the one who teaches graphics design?”, Harry asked and you looked up at him, easing for a while.
You nodded.
“She can be uptight sometimes”, he laughed. You looked at him for a while. You had been dropping off sweets, hoping to get on his good side, but, all it took was Caitlyn getting him talking to you. It really showed how you were not fit near Caitlyn.
“Caitlyn talks about it all the time. Although she is a Physics major like me, she has taken an interest in Graphics designing”, Harry laughed.
“Hmm”, you nod again.
The rest of the time, it was Harry and Caitlyn flirting with each other all along, not even noticing your presence.
“I think”, you say to grab their attention, “I will go home first. I have some work to do”, you say and grab your purse. “Sorry, y/n, did we make you feel excluded”, Harry asked, with a gentle smile and you shake your head in a ‘no’ and left. Tears pricked at the end of your eyes as you walked down the chilly road.
Small Tinkle needed you anyways. It was time for his food too.
So, you sped your feet in order to reach home sooner.
Your apartment was around the corner so it didn’t really take you much time. As you entered the empty lift, you had an urge to cry out loud. You would be shamed to accept that you were jealous of your best friend; one who was kind enough to be your friend in the first place. But as you unlocked the door, Small Tinkle jumped to your face, making you fall behind.
“Small Tinkle, what’s the matter?”, you asked as you wondered why she was acting such. You thought, she must have escaped through the window to take a patrol. “Oh, are you hungry?”, you said, scratching the cat’s back and as it purred, you smiled and walked in. It was like a miracle, the way she always knew when you felt bad or sad.
“Sorry, Small Tinkle, but you have to do with the dry food again today. I haven’t cooked any meat or fish, you know”, you speak to your cat and you see it visibly sigh, even if it wasn’t possible. “A cat’s life is difficult, isn’t it”, you say jokingly as you lay out the food and water.
You look in the fridge to see if there is anything you can eat, but unluckily, you seem to have finished the last packet of ramen last night, in the spur of the moment. You sigh, not wanting to make a run to the supermarket. Maybe you can sleep hungry today. But, the angrily rumbling stomach wants food. You could order a pizza or a takeout, but, it’s month-end after all.
“Small Tinkle, stay here until I come back in five minutes. Don’t go patrolling today, the weather looks bad”, you say looking at the particular gray clouds out the window.
You re-wear your coat, get your purse and walk down the hallway to the elevator.
The wind has picked up its speed and is even raising the dust. You walk into the supermarket and look for some cheap meals. The instant noodles have at a 20 % discount and the frozen meal some offers on them too. You rush to take a glance at them, but being clumsy for not having eaten for a while, you feel weak and sway back to fall into a hard chest.
“I am sor--”, your words don’t find a way out as you see Harry holding your arms.
“Yo, you are her friend, aren’t you?”, he asked, despite the fact that you both had met just a while ago. You nodded your head again. “Instant noodles and frozen food. Must admit, they aren’t good for your health”, he said, frowning a bit. “It’s the month-end, I can’t help it”, you mutter and he quirks his brows up. “How long have you been relying on this, may I ask?”, he asks waving the box in his hand. “Not your business”, you say, turning away from him, twiddling your hair in between your fingers.
“Means, nearly every day. Am I right? ”, he asks, and you look away trying not to look like a pauper.
“Then you can stop by my house any time you want. It’s nearby”, he says while you push in all the frozen meals in your cart.
“I am not the one to burden anyone”, you mutter under your breath. “Lately, my annoying neighbor has started leaving sweets by the door too. Well, sometimes they aren’t a treat to the tastebuds, but there is way too much that I can’t seem to finish”, he says, walking by your side. Your breathing had visibly taken up speed. “S--So, ask them not to leave them”, you suggested. “I am not the one to pass up free treats”, he says with a bright smile.
As you walk to the counter, he follows you close behind.
“Do we live close to each other?”, he asks and you gulp in your saliva. He had more ravishing raw vegetables and spices in his bag. Maybe he was going to do something good today too.
You notice his eyebrows crinkle when you both get on the same elevator. And he is more certainly shocked when you walk in the same direction. When he realizes that YOU were the annoying neighbor, he was talking about, his face falls. Small Tinkle comes to you when you open the door.
“Missed me?”, you ask her and she purrs. You cradle her to relieve some of the anxiety now that he knows.
“Wait, Y/n, YOU are my neighbor?”, he asks, shock on his face. You nodded again and walked in the door to close it on his face.
He wondered if you already knew that he was the neighbor.
And as it neared 9 PM, the downpour outside, making you crave something warm, you walked into the kitchen to get one of the frozen meals out and microwave it. Just then, there was a knock at the door. You wondered who it could be and walked to it. There stood Harry in all his glory with a casserole. “What happened?”, you asked him, puzzled. “I am really sorry for earlier and as an apology, I thought I could leave you some mushroom ravioli. I have extra, so…”, he trailed off, biting his bottom lip as you smiled.
“It’s alright.”, you said as you let him in. “I was wondering if you were vegan or not. I was even contemplating if you were allergic to mushrooms, but, I didn’t really have much time, so, I hope you understand”, he smiled at you again.
“Thank you”, you smiled at him through your glasses.
“And the next time you are starving, don’t go to frozen meals, you can ask me instead. I make extra for my roommate and sometimes he isn’t around, so…”, you wondered what his obsession was with leaving sentences open.
“I get it”, you mutter.
You wanted to ask him to eat with you, but maybe if there was a chance of a next time, then. Because today, was eventful.
Mud is Thicker then Blood: Test
Verse: ROTTMNT Fantasy Verse
Summary: Being a father is one thing, but also being a teacher is another matter entirely. Especially with a son as stubborn as Donnie
Characters: Leonard, Donnie, Mickey, and Danny
Pairings: Why are you like this?
Rated: G
Dedicated to: @star-boy-blue for all the amazing art you made us!
“Focus Donnie”
The fourteen year old in front of him rolled his eyes, but as a parent he’s used to that. Donnie brought up his bo staff again. “I am, Dad.” As he expected, Don responded with an attack. Whenever Don got frustrated, he’d always respond with physical retaliation. Len took a step back, avoiding the blow before forcing his way into Don’s space. The teen immediately got a flustered look on his face before doing a corkscrew dodge away. Len could see Don’s eyes shift to his left. The teen started charging to move past him when Len swept his hook staff out, catching him around the ankle. With a squawk, that Len struggled not to laugh at, Don hit the ground on his plastron.
Len couldn’t help but wince. ”You ok?” He stepped closer, kneeling down looking over his son's form with a critical eye. Other than some dirt on his clothes, there didn’t seem to be anything wrong. “How’s your leg?”
“It's fine.” Of course Don wanted to do things the hard way. He rolled away and back to his feet with his training staff in hand. A part of Leonard is proud, but he can’t help but sigh as he stood up. “Dee, you don’t have to do this. If you need more practice and training it's fine. No one will think less of you.”
The teen looked at him with what can only be described as exasperation. “No, you don’t get to decide when I’m done. After how many times you made me try ‘just one more time’. No, I’m not done till I say I’m done.” He spun his staff for a moment, probably to vent some anger before slamming the end into the ground and settling into a stance.
Len studied him for a moment. He knew that Donnie is determined not to fail today. He knew what’s at stake. “Then listen. When you bottle up your feelings you get clumsy. You lose your advantage. Just breath and you’ll succeed.” He slid back into a ready stance.
A moment later, Donnie was on him again. The two deflected each other’s attacks for a few moments before Don pivoted in his step. Bringing his staff up to swing at Len’s head. With more defense then necessary he brought his shoulder up to shove Don away before taking several steps back. Without breaking eye contact he reached up to test his ponytail to make sure it wasn’t undone. With that, Len couldn’t help but grin. A surge of energy went through him as his hand caught the incoming bo, his hand now traced with an almost translucent black flame that made Don give an offended noise. “No fair, you didn’t say we could use magic!”
“Come on, rule number one is sometimes you gotta make up your own rules.” Len freed his hand, allowing his kinetic magic to flow through his body. Don, who knew better at this point, bent his knees and jumped backwards. Len could see the gears rolling in his son’s head as Don decides his next move. Len shot forward to retaliate, causing Don to jump again with a furrowed brow when his levitation kicked in and allowed him to float further away and try to stay out of his reach.
Len was on him the minute he hit the ground with an almost inhuman speed. His son was able to deflect his blows but was forced to take several steps back till his shell was up against a tree. Len brought the hooked staff down from above as Don quickly blocked with his own. Len can see his brow is furrowed in frustration, struggling to come up with a solution to the problem. The part of him that is Donnie’s father, silently begged him to surrender. They can always try again later. The teacher in him begs his son not to give up.
Don suddenly released his bo staff and ducks away, the staff snapping to the ground causing Len to stumble. Before Len can move, Don twisted his body and gave him a kick in the ribs. The blow broke his concentration and he lost his kinetic magic as he held his ribs with one arm hand. “Nice hit,” he commented, even though he didn’t have a broken rib or even a bruise, it was enough to knock the air out of him. “It’s not enough to beat your old man though.”
Don grinned. “You said I didn’t have to beat you though.” In his free hand Don held up a familiar blue headband with a gold coin held between his fingers that made Len blink rapidly. He reached for his ponytail again, only to find that the headband he used to tie it back was replaced by a cheap, frayed string, that fell apart at his touch letting his hair fall in his face. He could only stare in surprise for a moment before grinning. “Yeah, I did say that.” He stood up. “When did you realize that’s where I hid the coin?”
“This morning I saw you putting product in your hair, which you wouldn’t have done unless you were worried something might fall out.” Donnie held up the coin. “This counts as a win right? I found the coin, stole the coin, all without you noticing.”
Len’s proud smile sank into a slightly sadder one, one he hoped donnie wouldn’t notice. “Yeah kiddo, you win.”
Barely a moment later, Mickey burst out of the bushes, flailing his flippers in the air “WOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO go cookieee!” He shrieked with glee before sliding over and wrapping the teen in a hug. “Your Uncle Mickey is so so proud of you baby Deeeeeeeeeeeee.”
Don gave a loud gasp as he struggled to free himself. “Yeah I know Uncle Mickey! Air, turtles need air! Gah!” He squirmed around but Mickey’s hugs are a power all in themselves and they both end up in a somewhat escape/wrestling match (escape for Donnie, wrestling for Mickey), Len grinned as Danny approached him. “Well, he won.”
“Only because you went easy on him.”
Len glanced at the wrestling nephew and uncle, thankfully too enraptured in their wrestling match to notice them. “Don’t tell him that. He’s my kid, I’m not going to go all out on my kid.”
“I know, you big softy.” Danny wrapped his arm around Len’s neck and pulled him into a side hug for a moment before Len gave him a playful elbow to the ribs and steped away, he brought down his hook staff hard enough to catch the two wrestlers attention (though Mickey had Donnie in a nonlethal head lock, Donnie had a grip on either side of Mickey’s cheeks and was now trying to stretch his face out), Len snapped his fingers with his free hand and pointed to the ground just in front of him. Mickey squirmed free and went to his side while Don stood up.
Hesitating long enough to take a deep breath and move closer, readjusting his hood as though it were a safety blanket. In almost a blink the confident teen who wanted to challenge the world around him was again wracked with insecurity. But, as Donnie stepped up, Len knew his neverending courage would never fail him. “Um,” Donnie started quietly, “I did what you asked. I haven’t snuck out, I’ve listened to everything you said, trained with you everyday, and I got the coin without you noticing.” Despite the anxiety in his eyes, there’s a glimmer of hope. “Do I pass?”
Len had always waited for this day with dread and excitement. He let out a breath through his nostrils before putting on a brave smile. “Yeah you pass. You can be a Mud Dog now.” Don’s eyes filled with excitement as he curled his hands under his wide smile, a strangled squeal started emitting from his throat that sounded sorta like that time Mickey drank that bottle of rainbow liquid that made him radioactive for three days before he stood back up again. Seeming to understand there was more Len wanted to say.
“You’ve earned it. I always knew this day would come, but-” he reached out and cupped the side of his son's face. An act most sons would have detested but Don gently tilted his head into the touch with a smile “-It seems like yesterday I found you, a tiny little child with not even a name. I’ve seen you grow, get better, get stronger, smarter. More stubborn.” He used his thumb to rub his cheek, “You grew up too fast for me kid.”
“Are you saying you’re old now?” Don said with a wicked grin, trying to alleviate the swelling of Len’s melancholy. But Len responded with an equally wicked grin.
“Not too old to put you in a corner you brat.” He reached up and pulled down Don’s hood, causing him to let out a loud laugh before adjusting it to his standards. Len gestured to Danny and Mickey, “Alright, these two softies said they wanted to give you something in case you passed today. So I’ll let them at it.”
The teen blinked and looked in between the two, “Wait, no you don’t have to-“ but Danny waved him off. “Come on kid, I promise it isn’t vegetables this time.” With a dark blush, Don ducked his face into his scarf, save for his dark pink eyes but didn't protest further.
Danny went first. “From me.” He dug into his pocket, and drew out a familiar silver old pocket watch that he held out. It was probably twice Danny’s age and the only thing on it that had been replaced in its time was the fine dark purple cord that would hold it to the user's form. Don took it with both hands, eyes widening. “Recognize it? It’s the same one you fixed for me when we first found you. Been running ever since. Took care of it so when this day came you’d have something from your favorite Uncle.” Danny ignored Mickey’s offended look in his direction. “And see?” Danny pointed to the outside of the pocket watch, “it even has our initials.” Referring to the giant D on it. “It’s the closest thing I can give you to a family relic.” Danny gave a shrug that he probably hoped to seem nonchalant but failed at the slight quiver to Danny’s breath. “Hopefully you’ll think of me every time you use it,” he said rubbing Don’s scalp over his head.
With that he stepped back and turned away for a moment, probably hoping no one would catch him quickly dabbing at his eyes with his sleeve. If anyone but Len noticed they gave no indication. Don looked at the pocket watch with a smile and glint in his eyes before putting it back in his pocket and looking over to Mickey as he squiggled forward. “Well from your ACTUAL favorite Uncle,” Mickey made sure to give Danny a pout (who had collected himself to turn back around) before turning back to Donnie, “I made this a while ago, and figured you’d make good use out of it.” He held out a dark purple bag. That, to an observer may have looked like a terrible gift but Don’s eyes widened showing how valuable it really was. “It’s an infinite bag, you can load it up with a ton of stuff and carry it with you like it was nothing!” He flailed his tentacles excitedly. “Just like what we have!”
Don took the bag with both hands with a look of awe before he smirked weakly, “There’s not a criminal in this right? I don’t want another Registration Day fiasco-”
“IT WAS AN ACCIDENT!!!” Mickey cried loud enough for nearby birds to take off, flailing his tentacles again dramatically. “An accident! I didn’t know Heinous Green was in it, I didn't!” He probably would have spent another hour defending himself had Danny not reached out and pulled Mickey back. “I know buddy, I know.” Danny said, pulling off his fedora and setting it on the eel’s head as a way to appease him. Which you wouldn't think would have worked except Mickey immediately deflated, his head sinking into his neck as he let out a sigh, feeling the brim of the silk fedora with a giggle.
Donnie let out a chuckle at his uncle's antics before tying the bag to his waist. He opened his mouth again, probably to thank everyone when Len held up his hand, “I got you something too. It’s not exactly new but I think you’ll enjoy it.” He swung his hook staff around. The moment Don’s eyes set on it he gave a loud gasp.
“I-No-Dad I can't, I can’t!” he protested immediately, taking a physical step back. But Len gave him a stern, but warm look that made him move back into place. Len let the staff rest in the palm of his hand as it returned to its handle form with a flash. “The Dragon Claw staff has been in our family for generations. Only a few of us have been able to use it to its full power. My mom, your grandma, was the first to use it fully in three hundred years. Then me, then you. The staff accepted you as part of the Yukimura family ever since it formed in your hands when you were five. When you wield this staff, it’ll be like me and your grandma are always protecting you.” He extended it out to him.
In that moment, he remembered watching his Mother train with this same staff. He remembered learning how to use it under a bridge, his only shelter from the snow and the only distraction from his hunger. And finally, he remembered a small, green hand, far too curious for his own good, reaching out and touching it, only for it to flash and form. Scaring the poor child for a good day in a half. It had only been when it formed again at Don’s touch (days later under the protective eye of him and Danny) that Len knew it had claimed Donnie.
Donnie looked up to him, only when he saw Len’s affirming smile and nod, did the fourteen year old take it. Cradling it in his hands like a sacred treasure. Len could see the tears form in Don’s eyes and was in a way grateful that his son understood how important a moment this was. He’s about to step up and console him when Donnie scrubbed his eyes on his sleeve
“Th-thanks you guys. Thank you dad. I know I wasn’t always the easiest kid in the world, but you never laid a hand on me or gave up on me. Even though we aren’t blood, I never felt like we weren't….” He took a breath, “Family.”
At that moment, the tables are quickly turned and suddenly it's Len with rapidly filling eyes that he can’t blink away. “Aw hell,” he said, wrapping his arms around his son. He could feel Donnie hug him back just as tightly, his smaller hands gripping the back of his jacket as though terrified Len would disappear from his grasp. “I’m so damn proud to be your dad,” he said, pressing his face into Don’s scalp after giving it a small peck.
Don’s muffled voice broke out from its place in Len’s chest. “Are you crying?”
“No!” Len quickly rubbed his face with his free arm to hide his lies before rewrapping it around Don. “Of course not!”
“Oh, definitely, he’s barely keeping it together,” Danny said with a grin that made Len promise to burn all his romance novels later.
“He’s going to cry big time,” Mickey added.
Len glared at them both, “You two are assholes you know that!?” He used this thumb to wipe his newest stream of tears away. Despite what he said, and despite the laughter, the two Uncles joined in the hug, holding them together as close as they could. The world saw them as thieves, as criminals. Wanted posters said three of them were unreformable monsters. But in that moment, and in so many more, he was a father. The luckiest Dad in the world.
They were a family.
They would always be a family.
The Voyager Bunch
Or, Rascals: Voyager Edition
-----
Based on this post
This is dedicated to @jellybeansarecool @bizships @emilie786 @joyful-voyager and @subtle-spock for providing ideas, encouragement, and for generally being really awesome people. Also they are the nicest folks ever. Go follow them.
This ain’t my first fanfiction rodeo, but it is my first Star Trek fanfiction rodeo so I beg for your patience. Also, I am perfectly aware that there are some plot holes in here. This is because I am an animal scientist, not a Starfleet physicist/biologist/whateverist. Swiss cheese also has holes and swiss cheese is good so please consider that.
Click here to read on AO3, if you prefer. Thanks for reading!
-----
Despite having only been a captain for a few years, Kathryn Janeway had seen more unusual occurrences, courtesy of the Delta Quadrant, than most Starfleet captains combined. Some days, she felt a little overwhelmed by the summary of the last three years of experiences. Other days, she was grateful for the callouses such challenges had built over her nerves, preparing her to face even the strangest incidents without panicking.
Today was a day to be grateful, because without having seen everything she had seen, the prospect of her Chief Engineer, Chief of Security, Head Helmsman, and most brilliant Ensign being reverted into child-like versions of themselves would have launched her straight into a spiral of panic.
“How-” Janeway paused for a moment to pinch the bridge of her nose, “how exactly did this happen?”
“Well, ya see, ‘Lanna and Harry and I were in that shuttle and then this big black thing showed up and we flew into it and there was a big flash and-”
Janeway held a hand up, cutting off the shockingly fast string of prattle. “I think I understand that part, Tom, thank you.” She spoke as gently and patiently as possible. “What I don’t understand is how Tuvok got into this.... predicament.”
She turned toward the tallest of the four children, who stood with his hands behind his back in a way that would have been exactly like Tuvok, if the pre-teen boy weren’t fidgeting with the hem of his shirt and looking around the bridge, open mouthed and starry-eyed. “Tuvok?”
The Vulcan turned toward her. “The shuttle was stuck in the anomaly and the tractor beam wasn’t working, so I rammed my ship into theirs to dislodge it.” Tuvok nearly smiled, which was jarring to see on his features, no matter how much younger he looked. “It worked, but I got sucked into the anomaly too. When we came out the other side, we looked like this.”
He motioned to Tom and B’Elanna, who were standing next to him, both of which appeared to be around the age of 5 or 6. Harry, who looked to be about a year old, was currently tucked into Chakotay’s arms, playing contentedly with the rank bar at the large man’s throat.
Janeway looked the group over, ignoring the humored smiled playing at her first officer’s lips. With a sigh, she turned to the members of her senior officer team that were not currently under the age of 13. “I’m open to suggestions.”
“I would like to run some experiments first, but I am wondering if I can age their DNA back to the correct age in a process similar to the one I used to turn you and Mr. Paris back into humans after the, ah, Warp 10 incident,” The Doctor said.
“That might put their bodies back at the right age,” Kes said, brow furrowing, “but their minds appear to have reverted to their new biological age as well. Will the DNA reversal process fix that?”
The Doctor tilted his head. “I’m unsure. I need more time to research and run simulations.”
Janeway nodded. “Get started on that right away. In the meantime,” she turned back to the children and her commander, “let’s get you four something to eat.”
Neelix jumped to his feet, practically lighting up the room with his enthusiasm. “I’ll fix you kiddos up something real nice!” He dashed over to the door with a wild grin. “Give me ten minutes, and I’ll have the best grilled cheese sandwich you’ve ever smelt!” He saluted the whole room and practically bounced out the door.
Janeway glanced over at Chakotay who, for the first time since he had picked up baby Harry, looked nervous. His worried glance met her own and he tilted his head.
“Well,” Chakotay sighed, “hopefully these guys aren’t as picky of eaters as I was.”
-----
As unappealing as Janeway found Neelix’s cooking to be, it was, apparently, perfect for kids, as evidenced by the unrestrained glee with which Tom, B’Elanna, and Tuvok devoured their sandwiches.
The captain couldn’t help but smile as Tom downed the second half of his sandwich in a few bites and think how the older version of Tom would have been appalled to see himself eating Neelix’s cooking with such enjoyment.
As the older children ate, Janeway found herself spooning some kind of mashed vegetable mix into Harry’s waiting mouth. At first, she was a little uncomfortable with the idea of feeding one of her best officers, but, once she was able to get past the strangeness of the entire situation, she found herself enjoying the funny expressions and eager attitude of the baby in front of her.
“Gosh, he’s such a cute baby.” She said with a grin for the fourth time.
Chakotay leaned over, his shoulder brushing hers as he smiled at Harry. “I’d like to agree with you, Captain, but you keep hogging him so I can’t get a good look.” He turned to look her in the eye, raising his eyebrow teasingly.
She shoved him playfully with her elbow. “You got to hold him earlier in the conference room. It’s my turn.”
“I think your turn ended about ten minutes ago,” he grinned.
“I think I can find something else for you to do if you’re going to take Harry away from me, Commander.” She returned his grin.
“Fine,” Chakotay shook his head with a chuckle, “but I get him later.”
-----
Several hours had passed since lunch and, much to Chakotay’s disappointment, baby Harry was still firmly in Janeway’s possession, perched on her hip and looking for all the world like he belonged there.
Chakotay tried not to think too much about how naturally Kathryn had taken to caring for Harry as he watched her pace the bridge, checking on various scanner readings and flight paths, from his position on the floor by their command chairs. Beside him, Tom and B’Elanna rolled a ball back and forth between them, excitedly chattering about... well... everything.
“Do you think the whales were really THAT big?” Tom spread his arms out to the side.
“Yeah they were!” B’Elanna exclaimed loudly enough that the entire ship could probably hear it. Despite Chakotay’s best efforts to get her to lower her voice, the young girl seemed to only have one volume. “I saw a big fake one in a museum once and it was HUGE!”
“Whoa!” Tom’s eyes widened. “Bigger than this ship?”
B’Elanna tilted her head. “I don’t know, but it was definitely bigger than me!”
The two kids laughed, rolling the ball back and forth faster.
“Hey Tom?”
“What?”
“You’re my best friend!” B’Elanna suddenly reached forward and gave Tom a hug.
Chakotay glanced up at Kathryn to exchange a look of awe before he turned back to the kids on the floor. “But B’E, I thought you just said a few minutes ago that I’m your best friend.” He raised an eyebrow, hiding his smile.
The young girl gave him a look that he had seen far too many times on her older counterpart’s face whenever he said something particularly dumb. “I can have two best friends, duh.”
He laughed. “Fair enough.”
Suddenly, he saw Kathryn’s purposeful walk stop out of the corner of his eye.
“Chakotay,” her voice was even and tense, “where’s Tuvok?”
Eyes widening, Chakotay glanced around the bridge. Tuvok was no where to be seen.
“Chakotay to Tuvok.” He stood as he tapped his commbadge. “Tuvok, please acknowledge.” They waited a moment and, upon receiving no response, moved simultaneously toward the turbolift.
“It’s possible he hasn’t figured out how to use his comm.” Janeway tucked Harry closer to her side as they stepped into the lift. “Computer: locate Tuvok.”
“Unable to comply.”
Janeway gave the ceiling a glare. “Why?”
The computer did not respond.
“Maybe the de-aging effect has made it difficult for the computer to locate him.” Chakotay rested a hand on her shoulder. “I’m sure he’s alright; he’s probably just exploring the ship; you saw how amazed he was by everything in the conference room earlier.”
She nodded tightly. “Let’s hope so. Where do you think he’s gone?”
“Maybe to the holodeck?”
“Or his quarters.”
“What about the mess hall?”
“He just ate.”
They both paused, mulling it over.
“Alright.” Kathryn straightened. “I’ll check holodeck one and his quarters, you check holodeck two and the mess hall.” She turned back to the lift door. “Holodeck one.”
Chakotay swallowed around the lump in his throat, trying not to think of all the ways a small child could get hurt on a spaceship like Voyager. As the turbolift began to move, Janeway’s badge chirped.
“Kes to the captain.”
Her brow raised as she tapped the emblem. “Go ahead.”
“I think I’ve found something you’re missing.” Kes’s usually lighthearted tone was even lighter, clear amusement seeping through.
Kathryn turned to look Chakotay in the eye, a hopeful smile brightening her face. “I’m on my way.”
-----
Honestly, Janeway was a little ashamed of the fact that she didn’t think to go looking for her best friend among the orchids and other plants in the aeroponics bay, considering his horticulturally-related hobbies. As she and Chakotay stepped into the room, smiles crept onto both of their faces as they watched Tuvok carefully transfer one of Kes’s sprouts to a bigger pot. After patting the soil around the plant firmly, he wiped a hand across his forehead, smearing dirt on his face to match the dirt on his uniform.
Kes smiled up at the command team. “He came down and asked about a hundred questions about our system and then offered to help me with my work while we talked because its ‘more efficient to talk and work than simply talk.’”
Janeway chuckled at Kes’s approximation of Tuvok’s speech pattern. “Thanks for letting us know, Kes.” She reluctantly handed Harry to Chakotay, who flashed his dimples, and crouched next to Tuvok. “Hello there.”
Tuvok glanced up quickly before resuming his work. “Hello, Captain. Did you know that these Talaxian green beans take only a week and a half to reach maturity?”
“I did not.” Janeway raised a brow and tilted her head. “That’s very impressive.”
“I thought so too when Kes told me.” He patted the soil around another plant and set it aside, retrieving another sprout.
“Tuvok,” the captain reached forward and rested a hand on his shoulder, “I’m glad you’ve found something to do, but you have to tell someone where you’re going before you wander off. We didn’t know what happened to you and Chakotay and I were really worried.”
Behind her, Chakotay’s heart flipped. There was something rather... intimate about the way she had referred to both of them being worried about a child.
“I’m sorry, Captain.” Tuvok nodded his head. “It won’t happen again.”
“Good.” Janeway smiled and stood. “Why don’t you help Kes down here for a while and then come back up to the bridge when you are ready?” She looked at Kes. “That is, if Kes is alright with that.”
The young woman smiled. “Of course, I’d love some help.”
Janeway nodded and turned back to Tuvok. “Be sure to let us know when you’re on your way back up.”
“Of course, Captain.”
She patted him one last time on the shoulder and turned back to Chakotay. They fell into step beside one another and entered the elevator.
As the doors whooshed closed, Janeway turned to Chakotay with the intention of reclaiming Harry, but stopped. A smile grew across her lips as she watched Chakotay bounce Harry gently, allowing the little boy to palm his tattoo in curiosity. Even as one of Harry’s chubby fingers poked him in the eye, Chakotay simply chuckled and took the tiny hand in his own.
He finally turned to look at her. “What?”
Kathryn just shook her head, grinning wider. “I was going to take Harry from you, but I can’t bear to break up this cute little arrangement.” She motioned to the two of them with a long finger.
The corner of Chakotay’s mouth kicked up a little higher. “Captain, did you just imply that I’m cute?”
Her brow arched, but her smile didn’t diminish. “It would be hard for anyone to look unappealing with a cute baby in their arms.”
Her heart stopped suddenly as she realized what she had just said. From the look of Chakotay’s face, he had caught it too. Implying that he and the baby were cute was one thing; calling him “appealing” was another. Before she could say anything else she might regret, Kathryn turned back to the lift door, schooling her features back into the face of the Captain.
If she had turned but a half-second later, she would have seen a wide smile break across Chakotay’s face.
-----
“I’m sorry, Captain, but I need more time. I won’t deactivate myself until I have a solution, but this situation is very delicate and I can’t risk rushing my tests. You’ll need to find somewhere for the children to sleep. Hopefully I’ll have a solution tomorrow.”
Kathryn nodded. “Of course. Thank you, Doctor.”
With a grim smile, the feed from sickbay switched off, leaving her to look at her dark reflection in the black screen. Something like relief swept over help alongside a touch of regret. On one hand, she could really use her senior officers back in functioning shape. On the other hand....
Her eyes drifted back down to Harry, who had pulled a bit of her hair out of it’s ponytail and was curling it around his tiny fist in unbreakable fascination. A smile tugged at her lips as she cuddled him a bit closer.
She could get used to this.
The thought struck her before she even knew what she was feeling and, as soon as she admitted it to herself, she took that feeling and shoved it as deep into the recesses of her mind as she could. She was the captain of a ship that was constantly in danger and she shouldn’t dwell on things she couldn’t have.
Kathryn sighed, rubbing the back of her neck. “Well, Harry, looks like we need to find you a place to sleep.”
Turning back to the computer, she moved to set him down so she could use both hands to search the crew quarters layouts for a suitable place to keep the children overnight. As soon as Harry’s feet touched the ground, a wail rose from the back of his throat and his face scrunched.
Kathryn quickly scooped him back up. “Harry? What’s wrong?”
The boy’s cry of protest faded into whimpers and he buried his head in her shoulder, clinging to her tightly.
A warm feeling washed over her. “Ah,” she smiled, “I see.”
She pulled him closer and turned back to the computer, tapping buttons with one hand. “You can stay up here with me, then.”
The door to her quarters chimed.
“Come in.”
Before she could turn to greet her guest, mischievous giggles rose from the door. Eyebrow raised, she whirled around to find Chakotay standing in the doorway, a stack of PADDs in his hand, a tiny engineer on his left leg, and a tiny helmsman on his right.
He stepped forward with far less difficultly than she would have expected, given the extra weight on his legs. He crossed the room quickly and passed the PADDs to her. “The crew reports you requested.”
“Thank you.” She smiled, glancing down at the still giggling forms. “Not to alarm you, Commander, but it would seem that you have a couple of lifeforms attached to you.”
Chakotay’s eyes grew wide in mock surprise. “Really?” He turned his head and shuffled around, as if to look at his back. “Where?”
Tom and B’Elanna’s laughter grew. Suddenly, Chakotay leaned over and scooped the two of them off his legs, lifting them both up over his shoulders as their shrieked in delight.
He turned back to Kathryn with a wide smile. “Not to worry, Captain, I’ve apprehended the life forms.”
She smiled back with a soft chuckle. “We need to find a place for the life forms to stay tonight.”
Chakotay’s smile faded into a more serious, but not displeased look. “The Doctor doesn’t have a solution yet, then?” He lowered Tom and B’Elanna to the ground. They scampered off to the viewport, excitedly chattering about the stars.
“No, he needs a bit more time.”
Chakotay nodded. “Maybe I could take them for the night, that way someone is there to keep an eye on them.”
Kathryn shook her head. “I have no doubt in your babysitting abilities, Commander, but four children is a lot for one person to watch alone and your quarters are not big enough for Trouble 1 and Trouble 2 to run around in.” She gestured to the kids at the window.
“Fair point. Maybe I should take Harry and Tuvok then, and you could take Tom and B’Elanna?”
She turned Harry away from Chakotay. “Trying to take my boy again, are you Chakotay?”
He chuckled and shook his head. “Do you have another idea, then, Mom?”
Her breath caught in her throat, but she managed to smirk at him and continue speaking without any indication that his previous sentence had impacted her. “My quarters are the largest on the ship. If we set up cots here in my living room we could easily both keep an eye on the children overnight.”
“Sounds good to me.” He glanced up at the clock on the wall. “How about I go collect Tuvok from aeroponics and some food from the mess hall while you get the cots set up?”
“Sounds like a plan.”
He gave her one last lingering smile, which she returned, before heading out the door and down the hall.
-----
Apparently the lunch they had shared earlier that day had been misleadingly easy. Supper was, to put it lightly, a challenge.
“B’Elanna, eat your own food and stop taking from Tom’s plate,” Kathryn said firmly.
“But Tom isn’t eating it!”
“I was going to eat it! I’m just a slower eater than you are!”
“Well eat faster then!”
“B’Elanna!” Chakotay set down the spoon he had been using to feed Harry and fixed her with a stern look. “That food isn’t yours, and Kathryn already asked you to stop taking Tom’s food. You won’t be asked again.”
B’Elanna mumbled out an apology and stuffed another bite of her own meal into her mouth.
Kathryn shot Chakotay a grateful smile and turned to Tuvok, who was holding up one of his vegetables to the light. “Tuvok? What are you doing?”
“I’m looking at the xylem and phloem of this plant.”
She bit back a smile. “I appreciate your curiosity, Tuvok, but I need you to stop studying your food and start eating it.”
The young Vulcan turned to her and nodded. “Of course.” He politely chewed and swallowed his food and turned back to the captain. “Did you know that this particular plant is a distant cousin of Terran broccoli? You can tell by the-”
Chakotay smiled as he watched Kathryn listen to Tuvok’s fourth lecture of the evening on plant biology. Neither of them were certain of what he was talking about most of the time, but his enthusiasm for the subject was nearly infectious and neither of them minded listening.
“Chakotay?”
He turned away from the scene across the table and looked at Tom next to him. “Yes?”
“After dinner, will you read to us?”
“Of course.” Chakotay smiled and ruffled Tom’s hair. “Anything particular you want to hear?”
“I want to hear about your missions with the Maquis!” B’Elanna bounced in her seat, all of that barely-contained Klingon energy starting to spill over.
“Or perhaps you could read to us from a classic story,” Tuvok raised a brow. “I’m fond of the works of Tolkien, maybe Tom and B’Elanna would like ‘The Hobbit’ too?”
“What’s a hobbit?” Tom’s face scrunched in confusion.
“Maybe,” Kathryn interjected before Tuvok could give a detailed recounting of the beloved childhood book, “Chakotay could tell us a story from his tribe.” Her eyes met his across the table. “He is pretty good at recounting ancient legends.”
Heat crept up the sides of Chakotay’s face as he held her stare. “Maybe.”
“Nah,” Tom’s voice broke through the pleasant tension between them. “I wanna know what a hobbit is!”
Chakotay chuckled. “Alright, ‘The Hobbit’ it is.”
-----
It took some time to get the older three to settle into bed, but finally, they began to yawn and snuggle deeper under their blankets. As their heads grew heavier, Chakotay wrapped up his story telling and the command team began to tuck their young companions in for the night.
As Chakotay wished Tom and Tuvok a good night’s rest, Kathryn carefully extracted B’Elanna from where she was snuggled into her side and took her over to her cot. As she got the small girl settled, she suddenly reached up and captured Kathryn in a tight hug. Surprised, Kathryn’s eyes widened, but she returned the gesture in earnest.
“Kathryn?”
“Yes, B’Elanna?”
“You’re my best friend.”
Kathryn blinked and pulled back to look B’Elanna in the eyes with a small smile. “I thought Chakotay and Tom were your best friends.”
“I can have more than one best friend.” B’Elanna’s voice was filled with deep confidence, despite how sleep-laced it was.
“Fair enough,” Kathryn chuckled, pulling the blankets tightly around the girl. “Goodnight.”
She met Chakotay in her bedroom, Harry still in his arms.
“Any time I try to set him down he starts crying.” Chakotay grinned sheepishly.
She grinned back. “I had a similar experience earlier today.” She reached up and brushed hand over the boy’s soft, black hair. “Its a good thing he weighs next to nothing.”
At Kathryn’s gentle touch, Harry stirred. His dark eyes found Kathryn’s and he reached out for her. With a look of mock hurt, Chakotay transferred the boy to his desired location.
“I’m trying not to be offended right now, Harry.”
Kathryn simply grinned and bounced the baby in her arms gently. “It’s alright, Chakotay. He has excellent taste.”
Chakotay shook his head, dimples flashing. “I suppose I can’t argue with that.”
She turned toward the bed and settled herself on one side, her back resting against the pillows and Harry resting against her chest. “Let’s see if we can get this one sleepy enough to not notice if we set him down.” She looked back at Chakotay, who was still standing, rather awkwardly. She patted the bed next to her with a smirk. “Come on, Commander. Get some rest. We’ve has a big day, wrangling the kiddos.”
He smiled and crossed the room to the other side of the bed, gently sitting next to her, his legs stretched out. “It has been a long day,” he said with a sigh. “But, I can’t say I haven’t enjoyed it.” He tilted his head to look at Kathryn, who was already looking up at him.
“Nor I.” Her voice was barely above a whisper.
Suddenly, Chakotay was very aware of how close their faces were. He watched as Kathryn’s eyes slid down to his lips. Before he could do something he couldn’t take back, he took a deep breath and turned away.
“Well,” Kathryn cleared her throat, sounding more like the Captain now, “it’s been fun but we should get some sleep. I’ll keep an eye on Harry here and take him to his cot in a few minutes. You should go ahead and rest, Commander.”
“Of course.” He tilted his head and gave her a small smile. “Goodnight, Kathryn.”
She grinned back. “Goodnight, Chakotay.”
-----
Apparently, Kathryn didn’t stay awake long enough to take Harry back to his cot, as evidenced by the weight on her chest as she stirred awake the next morning. She slowly became aware of her surroundings and the previous day’s events came flooding back to her.
She also became distinctly aware of the warm, comfortable presence beside her. As she opened her eyes, she realized that her first officer’s arm was settled around her shoulders and that his shoulder was currently her pillow. His head rested atop hers and the hand that was not draped around her shoulders was resting on top of Harry’s back next to her own.
The situation was all rather snuggly and, were it not a violation of every professional barrier Kathryn had erected between her and the commander, she would have had no issue in savoring the moment.
Then again.... maybe she could allow herself just a few moments to pretend that the baby in her arms wasn’t her star technical officer and that the man holding her close wasn’t her XO and that this was a perfectly normal situation.
Before she could get too far into her fantasy, however, Chakotay stirred next to her, his dark eyes fluttering open to find her own.
“Good morning,” he said, his voice huskier than her own as sleep clung to it.
“Good morning.”
They looked at each other for a moment before Chakotay carefully extracted himself from her side, helping her up so she could carefully place Harry in his cot in the living room without waking the boy or the other children who were still sleeping. Without a word, they quietly prepared breakfast and coffee, steeling themselves for another day of handling the kids.
-----
“I’m afraid I’m a bit.... stuck,” The Doctor ground out with obvious difficulty.
The captain raised an eyebrow. The EMH admitting that he was struggling to solve a problem was a rare instance indeed. “How so?”
With a huff, The Doctor turned back to his desk, flipping through experimental results from a stack of PADDs. “Kes was right; the DNA reversal process I initially thought might work will not account for the de-aging of the officers’ brains, so I decided to look at the type of radiation that might have caused this and, to be completely honest, Captain,” he turned back to look her in the eye, “I have absolutely no idea how this even happened. There’s no evidence of radiation, the temporal energy around them is unidentifiable, and I can’t figure out how their cells and their minds were reversed.” He lowered his head. “I’m unsure of how to even proceed from here.”
Kathryn nodded, taking the emotions that were beginning to tumble in her chest and stuffing them as far down as she could. “Very well, Doctor. Take a rest and we can all come back to the issue later once we’ve had time to think.” She rested a hand on his shoulder, causing him to look up. “Don’t despair yet; there’s a lot of other brilliant minds on this ship besides your own. We’ll figure it out together.” She smiled and gave his shoulder a squeeze before heading into the turbolift.
As the doors slid open, she found Tuvok waiting in the lift for her. She smiled down at him and stepped inside, calling for the bridge.
“Chakotay to the captain.”
She tapped her badge. “Go ahead.”
“We need you on the bridge, there’s a bit of a situation.”
She raised a brow, glancing down at Tuvok, who was gazing at her intently. “On my way.”
-----
“So they want to.... interview us?”
“They want to interview you specifically.”
“To see if we are worthy of going through their space.”
“Something like that.”
“And going around their space isn’t an option?”
“It would add another 7 months to our journey, so this interview is our ideal option.”
“No pressure, eh, Commander?” Janeway shifted Harry from one hip to the other with a long sigh. “Alright. Hail them.”
After a moment, a blue and red humanoid alien appeared on the screen.
“Greetings, Ambassador.” The Captain flashed a polite smile. “I’m Captain Kathryn Janeway of the Federation Starship Voyager.”
The alien woman inclined her head. “Hello, Captain Janeway, I’m Ambassador Tel Parah of the Doonian Delegation.” Her eyes swept the bridge. “You’re ship is heavily armed, which, according to the laws of our people, requires that we do a personal interview of the commanding officer to ensure that violence or other manners of chaos will not be instigated as you pass through our space.”
“Of course, I understand.” Janeway smiled again. “What questions may I answer for you?”
Over the course of the next 30 minutes, Janeway was grilled on their purpose in passing through Doonian space, the types and numbers of weapons they carried, and the journey they had made so far. Just as Janeway thought there wasn’t possibly anything more she could tell them, Ambassador Parah paused and looked up from the computer device in her hand to study Janeway. After a moment, she spoke again.
“Just one more thing, Captain Janeway,” a slow smile slipped onto her face, “What’s your son’s name? He’s absolutely precious.”
Janeway raised her eyebrows in surprise and glanced down at Harry, who she had nearly forgotten was still in her arms. At some point, he had removed her combadge and was currently turning it over and over again in his tiny hands, taking a moment here and there to bite parts of the object he must have found particularly interesting. Kathryn exchanged an amused glace with Chakotay, who shrugged off screen, before turning back to the ambassador.
“This is Harry.” Janeway smiled, turning the boy so the ambassador could see him better.
The other woman smiled widely. “How adorable. He has the brightest eyes.”
“He does.” Kathryn smiled back down at him.
“You know,” Parah leaned back in her chair, “I usually don’t allow anyone through our space that isn’t from a system or planet we are already know and trust and so I wasn’t planning on letting Voyager pass. However, when I saw your baby and how well-cared for and happy he seems, I felt that I could trust you somehow.” She smiled again. “We value children highly in the Doonien Delegation. Children are often a reflection of a parent’s character. I can tell by Harry’s disposition and curiosity that you are of a fine character, Captain.”
Janeway cuddled Harry a little closer, heart warming. “Thank you, Ambassador, I take that as a high compliment.”
“As you should.” Parah leaned forward again. “You may pass through our space. We will have you stop at three checkpoints on your way though which I will send you the coordinated for in a moment. Have a safe journey.”
The screen went blank and Kathryn turned to Chakotay.
“Should I feel bad that I let her believe Harry is my son?”
Chakotay chuckled, stepping close enough and lowering his voice enough that the rest of the bridge could pretend not to hear him. “Are you saying he’s not?”
Her gaze grew softer. “I guess he’s sort of been like a son to me since we got on board.” She looked back down at him. “I feel very protective of him.”
Chakotay rested a hand on her shoulder. “I know.”
They smiled at each other again. Chakotay opened his mouth to say something more but, suddenly, there was a tug at Kathryn’s elbow.
“Captain? Now that the negotiations are over, I think I have an idea about how to fix Tom, B’Elanna, Harry, and me.” Tuvok’s eyes were bright and eager.
“Alright,” Captain Janeway smiled down at him. “Let’s get The Doctor up here and we’ll hear your idea together.”
-----
Chakotay exchanged glances with The Doctor and the Captain over the table as he bounced both Tom and B’Elanna on his knees. “Could that really work? It seems almost too easy.”
“Well, if this is a phenomena that’s inexplicable and is tied only to the anomaly the shuttles passed through, I feel like sending the children back through isn’t our worst idea.” The captain rubbed the back of her neck. “Doctor?”
The holographic man continued typing into his PADD for a moment before stopping and reading. “I- I honestly think this could work.” He slid the PADD over to Janeway. “It’s hard to predict, since we have no idea what exactly caused this, but if we send the shuttles through the anomaly opposite of the way they first went through, I think it just might turn them back to their usual ages.”
“How do we know it won’t just make them even younger?” Chakotay watched as B’Elanna slipped off of his knee, pulling Tom along with her to go play in the corner.
“We’d have to run some tests to be sure that they don’t. Perhaps we could send a plant through first, or some other organic life form.” The Doctor took the PADD back and made a note.
“We would also have to make sure that, if the tests show some promise, Tuvok can take the shuttle back through the anomaly.” Janeway turned to the boy sitting at her right. “Well, Tuvok? Do you think you could pilot the shuttle?”
He shook his head. “Since I don’t have my older self’s memories I don’t think I could.”
“We could use the tractor beam to send the shuttle through,” Chakotay said. “If we give them enough of a push to go through the anomaly, they should be able to pilot themselves back to Voyager once they get out the other side and have returned to their normal ages.”
Janeway raised her eyebrows. “Well, it’s worth a shot and I don’t have any better ideas. Commander, set a course for the anomaly. Doctor, prepare the experiments.”
-----
Tom and B’Elanna seemed to sense that something was up as they suddenly became even more clingy. The whole trip back to the anomaly, B’Elanna shared the captain’s chair with Kathryn, insisting with all of her Klingon passion that the older woman tell her more stories from earlier in their journey through the Delta Quadrant. At the helm, Tom hung on to Chakotay’s arm, watching the stars go by and asking Chakotay a hundred questions about piloting starships. Tuvok sat in Chakotay’s usual seat, interjecting with questions of his own here and there, and Harry sat on Kathryn’s knee, chewing on her jacket sleeve, her combadge still clutched tightly in his left hand.
After they reached the anomaly, it took a couple of hours for The Doctor to complete his experiments and, once he had declared that plants that had gone through the anomaly twice were returned to the same age the started as, they began preparing the children to enter the anomaly themselves.
“Will it hurt?” B’Elanna asked in the smallest voice she had ever used in her life as Kathryn tucked the small Starfleet uniform that she had come through the anomaly with around her shoulders.
“It won’t,” Tuvok said. “It didn’t hurt when we came through the first time, did it?”
She shook her head, but didn’t look very reassured.
“It’s okay, ‘Lanna!” Tom grabbed her hand. “I’ll be right beside you.”
Kathryn stood and took a step back, feeling almost as if someone had filled her chest with some of Neelix’s heavy stew. She had to let them go, of course, this wasn’t the way they were supposed to be, but she was certainly going to miss seeing the level of innocence her officers had now. B’Elanna was unburdened by trust issues, Tuvok was passionate and bright, and Tom - well, she supposed he hadn’t changed all that much, but at least he seemed to be genuinely happy, not just putting up a front of humor to protect himself.
It would be hard to see them go back, but maybe, now that she understood how the world and time had changed her friends, she could help them.
She was shaken from her thoughts by a tug at her collar. She looked down to see Harry pulling at her pips, completely enamored by the gold metal.
“Oh, Harry.” She nearly choked on his name. Since he was so young now, she didn’t have any insight into his personality after having seen him as a baby, but she was going to miss his innocent curiosity and familiar weight on her hip.
Before she could think too much about it, she handed Harry over to Tuvok. The younger boy scrunched his face up and whimpered at the change of hands, but Tuvok bounced him gently and he settled down, reaching for the pointed tip of Tuvok’s ear.
Kathryn took a step back, feeling Chakotay step up behind her so that they were nearly touching. “Best of luck, you four.” She gave them her most reassuring smile. “See you on the other side.”
She and Chakotay hurried up the bridge and gave the go ahead for the ensign who had taken over Harry’s post to begin using the tractor beam to move the shuttle out into the anomaly. They stood side-by-side on the bridge and watched the shuttle go through. At come point, they grabbed each other’s hands and squeezed each other tightly.
There was a flash as the shuttle passed through the anomaly. After a few terrifyingly quiet moments, the shuttle came bursting out of the other side and a voice crackled over the comm.
“Cochran to Voyager,” confusion leaked through Tom’s voice. “What the hell just happened?”
Kathryn and Chakotay smiled at each other in relief. “What’s the last thing you remember, Tom?” Chakotay asked.
“B’Elanna, Harry, and I were coming back to Voyager when we- wait a second, how did you get here, Tuvok?”
Janeway laughed. “Why don’t we get you four back on board and then we’ll explain everything.”
“Copy that. See you in a few.” Tom’s voice grew quieter, like he was leaning away from the comm. “I have a feeling this is going to be one heck of a story.”
-----
After everyone had been debriefed and left to process the last two days of strangeness, Chakotay found Kathryn in her favorite spot; on her couch and staring wistfully out at the stars as they drifted past. She had shucked her jacket and taken her hair out of it’s clip, leaving her in her grey turtleneck with her hair falling around her shoulders and face.
“Got a lot on your mind?”
She turned to smile at him, a note of sadness in her eyes. “It’s been an interesting couple of days.”
He settled on the couch a ways down, turning to face her. “It sure has.” He was quiet for a moment. “I’m going to miss our kids.”
“Me too. It was fun having little ones around, playing at being a parent.” She fidgeted with the seam on the couch. “It was different and they sure did give us some challenges,” she chuckled, “but I loved it.”
“Have you ever thought about having kids of ou-” he coughed, “your own?”
Her crystal blue gaze caught his. “Yes.” She smiled and looked out the window again. “I always thought someday I would be a mother.” With a snort and a smirk, she continued; “Of course, I never thought I’d be mothering my helmsman, security officer, engineer, and technical officer.”
Chakotay laughed softly. “I think you were mothering them before they were turned into actual children.”
“Perhaps.” A pause. “What about you? Did you ever think about being a father? Outside of the whole instance with Seska, of course.”
He nodded. “When I was in the Maquis, no. My life was too fast-paced to be a proper father. If I was going to be a dad, I wanted to do it right and I couldn’t have done that from a Maquis ship.” He took a deep breath. “After joining this crew, though.... I’m in a better place now, and I think I’d be thrilled to be a father.” He looked over at Kathryn to find that she was already looking at him with something like wonder in her eyes. He held her gaze for a moment and, finally finding a bit of courage, he said: “I’m more at peace.”
A smiled played at the corners of her lips, and her eyes looked a little like they were silver-lined, though Chakotay couldn’t quite tell for sure in the low light of her quarters.
“You were really good with the kids. You would make an excellent father, I have no doubt.”
He smiled. “You would make an excellent mother. You’re a natural.”
“Thank you, but I barely felt like I knew what I was doing.” She chuckled.
“You could have fooled me.” He grinned for a moment, before his countenance grew more serious. “I hope you get your wish someday, Kathryn. I hope you get to be a mother.”
She was quiet for a moment, and Chakotay suddenly felt his chest tighten. Had he said too much.
Before he could fall too far into his panic, her hand slid over to his, giving it a squeeze. He looked up into her eyes, which definitely had tears in them now.
“I hope you get to be a father too Chakotay. Someday.”
He squeezed her hand back and they both fell into a comfortable silence, enjoying the view of the stars outside Kathryn’s window.
Run To Me (Part 2)
Pairing: Diane Sherman x Fem!Reader
Wordcount: 1739
A/n: Thank you all for the love! I know Diane is chaotic and a lot of people are against writing fics on her, but I just love her. I have mommy issues so maybe thats why. Haha... Anyways, enjoy chapter two!
"Don't move."
Diane dabbed peroxide to your forehead, eliciting a hiss from your lips. You didn't listen to her, instinctively moving your head away from her. She smiled and grabbed your chin, keeping you in place. Her grip was somehow gentle and commanding at the same time. She dabbed at it again, the sting now drawing tears out of your eyes and down your flushed cheeks. You saw her eyes dart to them, and look back to your eyes quickly, drawing in a ragged breath. She seemed uncomfortable at your discomfort, but then again she had run you over.
She put on a couple of butterfly band-aids over the cut and sat back in the kitchen chair she had put in front of you. She let go of the grip on your chin and brought her hand up to your face and gently brushed the tears that stained your cheeks away. You gasped at her cool hands on your hot skin, never having felt something so gentle and caring. She smiled at you sweetly, your heart suddenly aching at the sight. You coughed to make it go away, you didn't like to feel weak.
"You shouldn't need stitches. It's deep, but small. Why don't we get you something to eat before you take a shower. Don't need you to pass out from the steam," she said, getting up and going over to her fridge.
You sat back in the chair, looking around the kitchen. It seemed like it hadn't been updated in the last ten years, but was also incredibly clean. It was as if she didn't actually cook in it. She brought the ingredients to the counter and turned on the stove. You began to feel awkward as you watched Diane making lunch as the realization that you were sitting in a complete strangers home after they had hit you with their car. As if Diane sensed a shift in the atmosphere, she suddenly turned around, her focus back on you.
"You said you didn't have any family?" she asked, crossing her arms across her chest and biting her lip.
"Huh?" you asked, confused by her sudden nervous demeanor.
"Earlier, when I- well you said you were new here but that you didn't have any family. So what brought you to town?"
"Oh, yeah. Someone I grew up with in one of my foster homes who I was really close with came here when she was 18 to go to the school here and get a fresh start. I heard how well it worked for her and decided to do the same thing. Plus I thought it would be easier to move across country if there was at least one person I knew in the area."
The smell of the food began to drift through the air and your mouth pooled with drool. You hadn't eaten a real meal in nearly three days. Your stomach growled and revealed just how hungry you were. It was loud and you knew she heard it, and your cheeks flushed red once again, embarrassed. You quickly picked back up the conversation to distract from it.
"So yeah, once I saved up enough money for a bus ticket, I left. The trip took about a week and a half and I was here literally ten minutes before you hit me with your car," you chuckled nervously.
Diane looked at you, worried, but you flashed her a smile to let her know you weren't upset. She seemed to relax instantly and she smiled so wide she actually covered up her mouth with her hand as if she was embarrassed. She turned around to stir the food that was now beginning to sizzle on the stove.
"So do you live here by yourself?"
Diane seemed to tense at the question, but she relaxed almost immediately afterwards, sighing loudly.
"Unfortunately, yes. But I keep myself pretty busy in my garden and teaching. A quiet life has its perks, but sometimes it gets lonely."
She came over and put a plate full of sautéed vegetables and chicken in front of you. She sat back in the chair across from you, watching you with a smile. You looked at her, almost afraid to eat it.
"Go on, take a bite. Tell me what you think sweetheart," she almost cooed at you.
Her tone and the nickname would have thrown you off guard if you weren't so damn hungry. You shakily brought a fork full into your mouth and forced yourself to eat slowly. You moaned as you swallowed, so thankful to have actual food in your stomach. Diane bit her lip and smiled again, watching you eat.
You ate an entire plate and Diane insisted on giving you more, but you were afraid you would get sick. You hunched over from being so full, and winced from a new pain coming from your back. Diane noticed immediately and shot out of her chair and to your side.
"I'm fine. My back is just hurting all the sudden," you said, trying to calm her down.
Suddenly Diane was yanking your shirt up, exposing your back.
"Hey, what are you-"
"You have what looks like road rash and a large bruise along your back. I think you should go take a shower and then I will take a closer look at it. I'm afraid if I don't it will get infected," Diane said rolling your shirt back down, completely ignoring the dumbfounded look on your face.
You sat there silent and Diane didn't wait for you to really respond. She picked up your backpack and threw it over her shoulder.
"I'll show you where the bathroom is."
You cautiously followed her down the hall to the bathroom. Diane was so kind and really welcoming, but she was also slightly forward with her actions. You two were still perfect strangers, but she had no problem lifting up your shirt without your permission as if you had known her since you were small. But did you really mind that? You had never had someone baby and care for you before, what did it matter if she didn't know you? You decided to just relax and enjoy the attention while it lasted. Even if it was because she felt bad.
You followed her into the bathroom and she turned on the shower checking the water. She turned to you then and held out her hand.
"Give me your clothes."
You stared at her.
"I'm sorry, what?"
She chuckled.
"Your clothes smell pretty bad. I will wash them for you. I'll step out of the room and you can let me know when you're in the shower and I'll come back in and grab them," she said, heading towards the door. You didn't have much time to argue as she stepped out into the hallway and closed the door behind her.
You undressed quickly and tried to leave your clothes in a neat pile on the floor near the door before trotting to the shower and stepping in. You gasped at the sting of the water on your battered skin. You gave yourself a second to adjust before giving Diane the OK.
You heard her step in and pick up the clothes, and you swore you heard her footsteps grow closer to the shower. You held your breath, suddenly nervous. But they retreated as you heard her exit, the door creaking shut behind her.
You showered quickly and toweled off as best you could, changing into the softest pair of clothes you had in your bag. You stepped out into the hallway carefully, looking for any sign of the woman. You saw the door to what looked like a basement open so you headed that way. Just as you reached the frame, Diane appeared suddenly, scaring you.
"Oh sorry! I didn't mean to scare you. Sorry, the washer is in the basement," she said, closing the door immediately behind her. You found it weird, but maybe it was dirty. She probably didn't bring company down to the basement often.
"How long do you think it will take for my clothes? I'm super tired and was hoping to get to the motel to rest some."
Diane bit her lip again and brushed her hair behind her ear which you were beginning to think was a nervous habit. She crossed her arms and leaned against the door before clearing her throat.
"I-I was actually wondering if you wanted to stay here? Just for a bit. So that way I could check on you to make sure you're healing well and you can save your money while you look for something permanent, if you're going to be staying here."
She waited for your reply, obviously anxious. You were conflicted. While you relished the foreign feeling of kindness and affection, Diane was a stranger. She had hit you with her car. Your foster sister didn't know where you were. You were not supposed to be venerable or trust others. But there was something in her eyes, something about the way she obviously wanted you to stay and be near her that shattered every instinct inside of you.
"Okay, that would be really nice," you squeaked, suddenly feeling the smallest you ever had.
Diane let out the breath she had been holding and it turned into a happy laugh. She smiled at you and you couldn't help but smile back. She was nice and you liked her attention and the way she seemed so concerned with you.
"Alright then, well I'll show you to your room," she said, finally leaving the door and walking you down the hallway, nearly pulling you with her.
You found yourself in a room that seemed like a modern day teenagers room. It felt strange but some people just decorated differently you supposed. Diane sighed and patted the bed.
"This is your room. Get comfortable and rest. I am gonna go get that medication and then start dinner so you can nap if you'd like until then."
She turned and walked to the hall but stopped in the doorway, turning her head to you.
"Oh and Y/N, I only have one rule."
"What is it?" you asked, sitting on a bed that you were certain was made from a cloud.
"Don't ever go in the basement."
And with that, Diane shut the door behind her, leaving you in the quiet of your new home.
Wake Me Up Inside(Chapter 2)
Summary: Hope is a flickering light, coming and going as it sees fit.
Author's note: Y'all like this? Color me surprised I thought everyone had cast Sujin aside based on tumblr post honestly, expected maybe 3 people to read this. I'm happy so many are enjoying, thanks for coming along for the ride. If any talented individuals want to make me a header that would be great, anyway enjoy the teen angst. More awful parenting, beware. it hurts me to write this but random immediate romance doesn’t make sense to me so here we goooo.
The world seems larger, everyone towers over her as they squeeze by jostling her tiny body, she twists and turns desperately searching for a familiar face and faltering when there is none. Just blurred faces with stretched out smiles that are horrifying grotesque, almost as if they were painted on by a deranged circus clown. She begins to run frantically racing away from the figures, who are now reaching out for her grabbing her arm and tugging at her pigtails. She opens her mouth but nothing comes out, bringing a trembling hand to her lips she finds them sewn shut, silencing her petrified screams.
Then a hand clutches at her elbow and she's spun around, suddenly staring into the face of evil.
"Where have you been you brat? Everyone was waiting for you."
She tries to tug free of his punishing grip but his fingers tighten on her tender flesh, marking the delicate skin. Ignoring her evident trepidation he forcefully pushes her towards a table, with a large looming birthday cake.
"Hurry up and blow out these candles, you're almost old enough to be useful to me."
Screaming no in her mind, she breaks free of his hold running as fast as her compact legs will take her but she miscalculates and trips over a stray toy, tumbling over the edge of a pool she hadn't noticed there earlier. The cold splash of the chlorine scented water on her skin shocks her in a panicked daze and when she pries her eyes open the menacing face of her father greets her looking nonplussed by her hectic drowning.
"Good riddance." He smirks sipping from his cup as he stalks away, no longer bothered with her.
Water constructs her airway and she continues to sink to the bottom. Forgotten and discarded.
With a flash she bursts from her nightmare silent scream on her tongue, it's his presence that silences her cry. Wide feline eyes regard her from his crouched position, it takes a moment to realize that the rapid puffs of air filling the room are coming from her lips. She grips at the mattress beneath her, hopelessly pleading with her heart and lungs as her body quivers from the intensity of her dream.
"Are you okay? You looked like you were having a bad dream, I called your name a few times."
She's decidedly not any semblance of okay and has no concept of what that would entail for her but she finds herself nodding, lying as easily as she always does.
"I'm fine." Clipped and brisk despite the cold sweat on her skin, she's probably soaked through his shirt the collar almost plastered to red collar bones.
He doesn't reply further than pursing his lips and walking over to a dresser she'd hadn't noticed earlier.
"That lie would probably be more believable if you didn't look as if you were going to pass out at any second." She can hear his eyes rolling at her and it raises her heckles, she doesn't need anyone looking after her, she is fine on her own.
"I should go." She says curtly, forcing herself out of the dangerously warm bed to walk across the room and test her previously soaked pajamas. Damp, but they'll do.
"I thought you had nowhere to go." He challenges finally standing to his full height, subconsciously she flinches at the sudden movement and immediately he takes a step back pressing himself almost flush with the wall. Lowering his head until they are almost eye level. Shame washes over her do strongly she has to turn away, so pathetic.
Speaking to his bedpost she answers, "That was last night. I can go home now."
Her father will be at work until late into the evening, she just needs to lock herself in her room and she should be safe until school tomorrow.
He hums at her sounding closer than he did earlier, "You don't have to go. I'll find an excuse to give my mom, you can stay here."
No she can't. She knows what's going through his mind, probably the same thing that went through Suho's when he saw the blood on her lip for the first time, you poor little thing. Pity was always the first reaction but it never lasted, eventually pity shifted to annoyance nobody wanted to be friends with someone getting beaten. It was depressing, and uncomfortable to discuss and there was nothing anyone could do to help her. It was her penance for being born a girl and not being the best at least to make up for that disappointment.
"I'm not a stray puppy, you can't just pick me up off the street and expect me to stay. I told you, I'm fine." This time she says it harder, sharper with a bite that screams don't push me.
Unsurprisingly enough Han Seojun doesn't seem intimidated by her.
This time she gets to witness the eye roll as he approaches her but still keeps his head lowered as if deferring to her. "I already told you that I don't pity you, you need help stop pretending you don't."
But she's not pretending, that would imply that she wants others to help secretly. That just isn't accurate, she wants nothing- expects nothing. Her father pound any inkling of hope she had out a long time ago.
Stepping into his space, her eyes narrow as she bites out, "I don't need anything certainly not help from you. You're not a nice person, what am I your one good deed? Just mind your business."
She pointedly glances away at the flash of hurt that scatters across his expressive face.
She expects him to lash out, stretch to his full form and berate her, reprimand her ungrateful behavior and an even darker side of her almost expects him to slap her. I see why your father does that, you deserve it.
"Suit yourself."
That's all he says solemnly with a shrug before tossing more dry clothes at the bed and silently exiting the room.
She feels worse than she did before. Guilt gnawing at her, she ignores the offered clothes she doesn't deserve his hospitality or warmth. She disrobes and puts back on the damp chilled pajamas, that matches her better.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
That's what he gets for trying to help someone, his act of kindness thrown back in his face. Angrily he pours the boiling water into the waiting cup, starting his mother's mandatory morning tea. He's so lost in the routine that he doesn't notice her presence until she clears her throat. His pride stops him from turning around, her words were as painful as a dagger.
"Your clothes are on the bed. I called a cab."
He nods without looking back, "Get home saf--" He cuts himself off, maybe he's overstepping again. So he just hums and stirs the now perfect cup of tea with a splash of milk. His sister's will get three sugars, she has such a sweet tooth.
The soft snap of the front door closing is loud in the silence of the morning, the sun has barely risen. His mother will be out in an hour, he was worried for nothing. Nobody will even know she was here. He can pretend this was all a fever dream and listen to her advice, he's never minded anyone else's business why did he decide to start now?
Lesson learned.
He spends the remainder of his weekend not thinking about the bruises on her face and instead plays video games, bullying Suho into playing Call of Duty with him online until the stupid genius starts to win too often and it's no longer stress reducing.
"Sore loser." He scoffs at the staticky insult through his headphones, draining the can of soda he took from the fridge. He should start dinner soon, his mom and sister will be back from shopping any minute.
"Can I ask you a question?"
"You just did." He can't help but roll his eyes at the lame response but he pushes on ignoring his brain shouting at him that this is the opposite of minding his business. He hardly listens to his brain, his gut is much stronger.
"Does Sujin have any siblings? Or does she like to box or anything like that? " He tries to make sense of the night, maybe it wasn't what he thought initially. From his memory Sujin comes from a very affluent respectable family, there's no way right?
"What? What kind of question is that?"
"Just answer me." He quips impatiently, ready to let go of this unwarranted worry that's been weighing on his heart.
After a long pause where he checks if his Wi-Fi disconnected he finally hears a response, "No. She lives with her mother and father, she's an only child. And I’ve never known her to do anything physical like that."
His chest tightens, not what he wanted to hear. Her flinch this morning flashes brightly in his memory. He wasn't mistaken. He's sure of it, she'd been scared.
"Why?"
He can barely hear through the ringing in his ear, "Nothing. I have to go."
He signs off before the other boy can reply, walking autopilot to the kitchen to get started on dinner. Chopping vegetables does nothing to stop the nausea bubbling in his stomach.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Taking the bus the next day is out of the question, he has spent the entire weekend wishing he had the nerve to get the girl's number but anyone he asked would misunderstand why and he didn't need anymore rumors circulating, he would just have to get it from her himself. If she wanted him to mind his business she shouldn't have collapsed where he could see.
The engine rumbles between his legs as he brings his motorcycle to a stop, swinging off effortlessly before tugging the helmet off and shaking his hair free. He doesn't notice the various lecherous female and male eyes watching his very moment, too focused on walking into the school and finding her.
Turning a corner he sees her instantly, sandwiched between her two best friends, they look like a high school brochure giggling as they walk down the hallway garnering the attention of most of the male population. The purple bruise on her cheek is missing, nothing but smooth blemish free skin. He almost does a double take. As all three of them pass him, he locks eyes with Sujin for a moment, the mask slides off for a second but the moment he blinks the façade snaps back into place, nothing left but a pretty empty smile.
He follows them into class, sliding into his seat and promptly going to sleep. He has to catch her alone.
Doing so proves to be a near impossible feat, she's always surrounded by her two bestie shadows and Chorong and the gang are never far from him either. He sighs forlornly even time he sees her only for someone to interrupt before he can approach her. All too frustrated.
He's sitting dejected on the staircase when he hears the bustle of students in the hallway, their voices carrying down the long space and he rolls his eyes imagining what ridiculous situation they've deemed as drama now. Last time it was Ju-Kyung having pimples, a topic that was completely groundbreaking and worthy of weeks of discussion. So it's with the smallest shred of curiosity that he stands up wandering over to the commotion.
"What's going on?" He directs to the closest person, some mousy looking girl who stutters out an indecipherable answer. He looks at her confused before stalking away to find someone who has a better grasp of communication. He poses the question again, to a boy this time.
"I heard one of the girls started freaking out in the bathroom. Screaming not to be touched."
He stands frozen before the words register in his brain and his feet are moving without his brain's permission. Shoving past gossiping bystanders, he easily gets to the front only to see Ju-Kyung covering someone with her sweater as they walk down the hallway. Immediately the crowd comes alive and they surge forward like a wave all calling questions out at once, "What's wrong with you?", "Why did you freak out?", "Who do you think you are? Are you too rich to be touched or something?"
He twists his head around ferociously at the last question, everyone in front of him gulps while taking a step back. The hallway is a cacophony of voices and shouts and he can feel his anger boiling, slamming his fist into the nearest surface-a wall- he gets everyone's attention.
"Go back to your classes. Now."
Some of the male students look as if they are going to challenge his authority but another step forward is all it takes to get the student body scampering to their classrooms.
Inhaling deeply he stomps off to find the source of his unease.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
It had been hard to disregard, how lacking of warmth her house was. Seojun's apartment had been brimming with warmth and love, the fridge bursting with papers and drawings documenting that someone cared enough to show them off. Her home was a large empty prison in comparison.
But she'd been right, it was dark and quiet proof that her parents were not home. With her heart in her throat she ran to her room, locking the door behind her. Sleep captured her before she knew she was in its grasps, waking up groggy hours later and forgetting where she was. Fierce pounds on her door reminded her instantly.
"Open this door now."
His voice is a low growl, even more terrifying than when he's screaming his lungs out. She grabs her vanity chair pressing it under the door knob for more protection.
She jumps when the door bulges, the loud crashing making it clear that he's slamming bodily into the door now determined to get to her.
"Please....stop." She pleads, tears already cascading down her bruised cheeks.
"Open this fucking door!!"
She's sobbing now, body folded as she cries her eyes out shaking viciously as her father continues to ran into the door, dread filling her stomach as he's never fought this hard before.
Then everything is quiet.
The pounding is gone as suddenly as it arrived. She doesn't let go her panic just yet, still too raw. Butt seconds crawl to minutes and she hears nothing so she finally exhales, sliding to the floor in relief.
She weakly crawls to her bathroom, turning the dial to the hottest temperature possible wanting to burn off his brand on her skin. After her shower she brushes her wet hair, staring at the bruise, it's turning yellow now with tinges of purple. Good thing she let Su-ah and Ju-Kyung convince her to buy foundation the last time they were in the beauty store. She will have to layer it on tomorrow.
She's starving but the thought of leaving her room with him in the house is enough to eliminate her appetite. Instead she puts on a warm sweater and sweat pants and wraps herself in a thick blanket, still too cold ice running through her veins.
She had never felt as warm as she did at his house.
A quiet knock thankfully pulls her away from such unnecessary thoughts. She simply listens.
"Su-jin, it's mom. I brought you food."
She sits up, crawling out of bed to stand in front of the bed. Her mother has never brought her food, even when she was nine and hadn't gotten a perfect score on her spelling test and her father locked her in the closet for two days with only a dictionary. She'd contemplated eating the pages before she was finally set free. Her mother had simply looked away, avoiding eye contact until she was safely back in her room.
But her stomach grumbles at the mention of sustenance and despite her best judgement she opens the door.
It's a mistake.
Immediately she notes that her mother has nothing in her hands, trembling herself and before she can slam the door shut a foot blocks her escape.
He uses the belt that time whipping her in places that others will never see, her back, thighs, and shoulders. Her mother's weakly calls out, "Don't hit her face she has to meet that boy you wanted this week."
It goes on for what seems like hours, he leaves her crumpled on the ground her body stinging as she refused to cry, blinking her tears away not wanting to give him what he wants. When her mother meekly walks over and extends a hand to her, she looks at her with listless eyes. Her mother has a fresh bruise on her cheek, her father hardly hits her anymore using Sujin has his punching bag instead but at times of high frustration he would regress.
She wonders if her mother knew that one day this would be her faith. If this was the purpose of her birth.
She doesn't take the hand. It seems there was still some hope left, it is extinguished now.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The school day had been easy she's been hiding her abuse for years, no teacher had ever suspected a thing and she didn't even blame them. It would just be bothersome, her father was a powerful man there wouldn't be much they could do.
She slaps on a smile, allowing herself to be dragged around by Su-ah and Ju-Kyung, listening as they giggle about their boyfriends chiming in the appropriate moments to not seem disinterested or jealous. She is jealous though, of their freedom and innocent problems, she'd lost her innocence a long time ago.
She knows Seojun is trying to talk to her but she can't handle seeing him right now, having to face someone who knows what she's going through sounds worst than being beat right now. So she jolts at every sight of the tall lanky figure, thankful for his fan club who seems to announce his every arrival. She's on her way to having a successful day when everything goes to hell.
She's in the bathroom drying her hands when a classmate comes in, responding to the small talk she answers the girl's question before nodding her head in goodbye.
"Oh your tag is sticking out."
That's all she hears before a hand is brushing across her sore beaten neck and her reaction is instantaneous, she turns around catching the offending hand and twisting it.
Her throat wheezes out, "Don't touch me."
The girl stares at her wide-eyed before tugging her hand away, then other girls begin to come of the stalls to see what's happening and before she knows it she's hyperventilating on the ground, nonsensical words dripping off her tongue. Everything is too loud and her head is splitting in half just when her vision is graying out, she smells a familiar perfume.
"Su-jin ah, you're going to be okay. Just breathe with me, follow me."
Ju-Kyung's voice is calming and sure, not touching her but covering them both in her sweater as she models how to breathe, she follows until her lungs are no longer burning.
"Good. You're doing so good, is it okay if I touch you? I'm going to help you up."
She grabs at the bathroom wall yanking herself until she's upright, trying to show her friend that she's not that weak but a look of hurt is displayed on her face and Sujin doesn't comprehend why.
The other girl shakes it off though, now covering her fully with her cornflower yellow sweater.
She's suddenly reminded of her nightmare this morning as she has to pass all the students in the hallway, all pointing and laughing as she falls apart some of them even have their phone out recording her and she sways uneasily before catching herself, trembling the whole way she walks down the hallway until a loud bang and a voice she recognizes all too well silences the uproar.
Resisting the desire to look back she allows Ju-Kyung to pull her up the stairs until they're on the roof. Air pumps into her lungs as she's finally free of all the judgmental eyes.
She expects the other girl to start interrogating her the moment the door closes but it never comes, instead Ju-Kyung places her sweater around her trembling body.
"You're okay. Just keep breathing."
She does her best to follow the uncomplicated directions.
After a few minutes, Ju-Kyung's phone suddenly rings disturbing the quietude. She barely hears blood rushing in her ears like the waves at the beach.
"Okay we're on the roof."
She stills at that utterance, turning in alarm.
"Who was that? Who did you tell where we are?"
Ju-Kyung looks guilty, as if she wasn't meant to hear that conversation. She doesn't want to see anyone right now, can barely stand to be with herself.
"Call them back and tell them not to come. I want to be alone."
Ju-Kyung holds her phone in her hands gingerly staring at the screen, clearly contemplating what is the right decision. She almost lunges for the phone to see who is the most recent call, but it's not needed as the roof door slams open.
"Why are you here?" She shouts, walking away now furious that tears are already filling her eyes now just at the sight of him.
"Nice to see you too princess." He drawls back, following her further onto to roof.
"Will you two be okay? I have to go back to class."
She spins to glare at her friend, why would she leave her alone with Seojun? They have had any interaction at school that hasn't been antagonistic.
"Yes, we need to talk." He answers for them and that's enough to make Ju-Kyung nod before walking off with a smile in her direction. The door shuts loudly behind her retreating back, Sujin wants to chase after her. Instead she turns back to him spitting fire and poison.
"I told you to mind your business."
"Are you okay?" He counters, eying her like a wild animal who can bolt at any minute, he isn’t wrong.
"That's none of your business!"
His expression remains the same, those beguiling feline eyes that scream at her.
"How hurt are you?"
Her emotions come crashing down again. He just keeps pushing and picking at her, no matter how much she shouts and shoves him away he just won’t go away like everyone else did. What is wrong with him? Couldn’t he see that she was more trouble than she was worth?
"What do you want to hear, huh? That everything hurts, that he used a belt this time! Do you want to hear about how he beat me until I bleed! Why do you care what happens me, why won't you leave me the fuck alone!"
Sobs ravage her body, she keeps brushing the fiery tears away fighting with her emotions but they won't stop and her palms are wet from covering her face, her breath is hitching until she starts hiccupping uncontrollably and she starts to feel light-headed.
"Hey! Su-jin! Breathe!"
But she can't, she doesn't remember how. Her body only knows how to hurt.
"Breathe, damnit!" Despite his shout, she hears the slight quiver in his voice but she can't discern why it's there but it desperately makes her want to obey.
When he cups her head, staring her head on she feels the vine wrapped around her lungs shrivel up and air starts gushing in until she feels dizzy, she sways back and forth gravity now also working against her and then she's being reeled in, her head placed on his chest. The thumping of his heart lulls her into a meditative state, she starts to count the beats and before she knows it the cobwebs in her head subside. Embarrassed by their sudden closeness, his arms are still by his side now almost immediately retracting from her head but she can feel his warmth radiating onto the skin of her thighs, she begins to draw back.
"Just stay. It's helping."
She blisters at his words, preparing to push him away.
"It's helping me, seeing you like that....it scared me. I helped you the other night, you should return the favor."
She puffs up before deflating, she'll never admit it but this is helping having something else to focus on, his scent, his heartbeat, the way his chest expands and constricts with every breath. The buzz of their skin nearly touching, his deep voice rumbling through his chest and into her ears, all placating and soothing her worries away.
"Fine."
She's never known Seojun to stay still for this long after years of attending the same school, always bursting with kinetic energy so she's pleasantly surprised by how long he simply stands and lets her rest on his chest, neither of them saying a word.
She stiffens when he suddenly starts moving disturbing their stillness, she sees his hands balled into tight fists by his side and wonders what's going through his mind.
"You can't go back there."
This again, she starts to remind him that she has nowhere to g--
"Stay with me."
