" we're all in the same boat though. it's not just you, so it should be easier to not panic when we're all in this together, right ? " eldar thought out loud, but he was starting to suspect worrying was just a part of this female's personality. there were people like that, he knew, and he could not judge them or change them for that. sometimes he wished he could give some part of his carelessness and calmness to others, but it was not possible. one could not make others not feel the things they felt, he thought.
" you know your worst idea does not even seem that bad to me. we would be able to live our lives twice. i guess it's just a matter of perception, we have very different ideas of what's bad, " he responded, thinking of his own words. for him some version of the worst had already happened. he valued his family first, but the second was his freedom, and he already could not travel out of here. of course, the conditions could be worse, but they could also be better, so he was not letting himself get bored to survive this.
"i'll keep in my the next time i invite some people over, " eldar said and then chuckled at her words, pointing at her for a second. " probably not going to be using your services any time soon, but thanks. "
OH, NEVER, but they very rarely spoke to her lately. Her instincts have just been blaring panic! all the time. Still, what the lord had said made sense, so she found herself lightly gnawing at her lip.
"My instincts are telling me to flee & yet this court makes the power very... unfleeable. None of us can winnow anymore. We're no different from defenceless mortals & that's what scares me right now." she hummed. She used to be a lot more open & a lot less panicked, but a king suddenly getting super powerful was putting things to a new persepctive.
like which fae to trust.
The list was getting shorter by the minute. Still, she chuckled & softly shrugged. "It's just an idea, but given how we got here, it's only rational to think we'd go back the same way. Or something much worse awaits us. Imagine we're stuck here until the end of our natural lifetimes & then we wake up back in our respective courts to continue whichever chaos had eaten through Prythian by that point."
Xue chuckled at the offer & smiled, her mood lightening up by a fragment. "Thank you for your offer, I gladly accept. If you ever need anyone to put you in a panicky mood, I offer my overthinking services as well." she gave him a mock-curtsey.

his meetings with the king were becoming more frequent, moments taken with cups of tea and calix had begun to wonder if the king trusted his inner circle these days. the commander had a feeling he was not the only one outside of the king's inner circle that he was often meeting with. calix wondered how aware they were of this happening and if it troubled them, but he decided against asking as he comes upon the emissary in one of the hallways. instead he asks of the king as if he were not already aware, " how fares the king the last few weeks ? does he seem stronger or has his new strength plateaued ? CLOSED ; for @crxssdhearts’ XAVIER, @wcngxue’s WANG XUE & @ethercvl’s TAYLAN (not a group thread)
josie’s words still echoed in his head — and who have you connected with since we've been here? any of the other emissaries?
the memory crept up on him in his shame, making him want desperately to march back into his chambers and hide under layers of blankets. while iain appreciated the help offered by his step-mother, it was unbearably embarrassing that he needed it in the first place. while he might be familiar with the other emissaries and had no real difficulty connecting with them, bringing it back to the position was harder to keep in mind. smoothing things over was well within his capabilities, but weaselling out information? as one of the newer emissaries, it was difficult to find his footing.
spying an ambassador of the other courts’, his eyes light up. iain smiles — wide and toothy, his perfect pearl glazed teeth bared like an eager pup. “greetings!” he gives a little wave of his fingers, sidling up next to them. we make our own opportunities. from the stone will come a statue with some hammering. “how are you faring with the recent snow flurries?” meaning both the weather, and perhaps, if one were to read into it, recent behaviours of their young king…

Nyx files her blade where she sits in the middle of the room, the table is laid out with every weapon she had managed to gather for her arsenal after arriving in the dusk court with nothing. literally. the sound of metal against metal soothes her, an odd thing for someone but the reality of herself. holding it above her eye level she lets the light catch against it, glimmering and it almost makes her smile, she sets it down as she hears the steps approaching. standing to greet the other. "xue, thank you for coming," she welcomes her, "have you heard anything alarming from the other courts?" she cuts right to the chase.

carden smirks, resisting the urge to shrug. " it is part of their job. " reading through as much as they could, being a source of all things informative. he trusted lady cerys was exactly that for their own court, it was in her duty to the position. finally the shrug does arrive, " i'm not sure, i've never been the type to linger between stacks of books. " napping was a bit far, but he again was hardly surprised to find that scholars spent that much time amongst the books they needed to study.
SHE GUESSED not many of the fae were willing to be honest & upfront, particularly not when it came to a situation like this ; everyone just hoarding their knowledge like magpies would hoard their shiny baubles.
She found herself chuckling lightly at his suggestion. "Are all scholars truly that predictable?" she asked with a tilt of her head, then added ;
"I hear they practically spend all of their time in libraries. Some say they even take naps there to avoid going back to their quarters. Is it true?"
she doubted they were all that scholastic.

at last the emissary of the dusk court had learned and memorized every face of the seven courts, not only the inner circle and the siblings of each high ruler, as well as those that were in close contact with either sides. truly, a task that might seem tedious but aurora was not only emissary due to her diplomatic skills, but she it was a personal desire to know of every fae in an effort to learn more of the courts. some had been far more willing than others to speak of their courts, understandable, as dusk themselves were careful what they shared. aurora offered a bit more, save for any information on their dragons, depending on how harmless their inquiries were. vala hovers not too far from her, his black scales nearly blending into the dusk skies. the past few days, she feels his unease, having surveyed prythian's young king, it seemed to linger within her companion. one thing vala had warned aurora of through their telepathic connection, this change in king was something to be entirely wary of. although vala could not say with certainty what it was, but it left the emissary deeply concerned. her musings are cut short when a shadow befalls, her lilac hues shift upwards to the source as her signature smile curved her lips at the familiar features. "please, join me. it has been sometime since i've had a rather stimulating game of chess." she had also learned a bit of how the other courts passed with amusements like these. it allowed her for two stones, companionship as well picking their minds.

the autumn scholar,
the night scholar (@alaradraven),
the dawn spymaster (@vivianvaldemar),
the summer second (@cetusxcetus),
the dusk third (@liuyan)
& the gaean emissary. (@wcngxue)
IT WAS the emissary's idea to invite the scholars for information on the Dusk court.
"They're rotten boring, I'll tell you that." Ara said to Wang Xue, turning her head towards the Gaean emissary, arm looped with Alara's. "I can survive them for a while. I mean, the court is pretty & everything is... dark colour hued. But, it so goddamn cold with this blasted winter. I know I said I like winter, but I meant mild one one Winter court manifesting here one."
the Night court's own scholar chuckled.
"I don't think they're boring. You also don't think they're boring, or have you forgotten the fawning over their dragons?" Alara retorted, then smiled at Xue ;
"Pay no attention to her, she is cranky recently. I think they're friendly so far & I don't mind being here, but I'd be lying to say I'm not getting a little homesick. If you're looking for someone to paint them in a less subjective light, talk to the Dawn's spymaster. Then on the other hand, she hates everyone." Alara chuckled, dark stare fixing upon the woman lounging against the nearest wall, eerie smile pulling her lips to the side ;
"Or do you think them pleasant, Vivian?"
the Dawn spymaster's eerie grin stretched & she peeled herself from the wall.
"Why ask when you know the answer." Vivian snorted, pale, almost silver gaze sliding over the merry band of unlikely... acquaintances.
though, she couldn't say she liked them.
Her pale gaze slid across the Summer's Second & Dusk's Third, & Vivian smirked. "Contrary to popular belief, I don't mind the new court. I don't even think they are a new court. You could be older than all of Prythian & perhaps it is us who should show allegiance to you." she spoke, the gaze fixed upon the dragon-rider.
"How fortunate they are one of us, not the one of you, aye, Cetus?" Vivian poked the ancient fae in the ribs.
the summer's second in command graced the spymaster with an unsettling smile.
"Little Vivian." he chuckled at the feral grin that graced the spymaster's lips at the moniker, "it is advantageous to some, that the Dusk court is one of... the solar courts, but are they truly a court? I agree with what you've said. They are a fraction for themselves, are you not?" the murky gaze shifts to Liu Yan, who, in return, merely smiles.
"It is ridiuculous, what all say. A court staying hidden on purpose. Yes, yes. But, whose purpose? The Mother or her Dark sister, who are we to ponder of it. We can simply... observe."
the third in command, the dragon-rider of Dusk smiles as they all speak.
"How very kind of you, lord Cetus. Many seem to think we have decided to pull magic tricks & vanishing acts. To have you & the other guests in our presence, consider us in such a... favourable light, is truly an honour." a diplomatic reply, but perhaps the only one she hadn't feigned all day & the only one she was confident enough to give.
It was a sugar-coated, but still unanimous agreement, that the Dusk court was not regarded as a thread among these fae. Some of them higher ranked than the other, but Liu Yan could tell while some ( Ara & Alara ) had been eager to return home, they still did not hold the Dusk court accountable for keeping them all here.
because they really weren't.
"Thank you for inviting us all here, Wang Xue. It certainly helps to clear the air & any potential miscommunication between us."
The fact that Liu Yan herself wants to stay far & wide away from the rest of the Prythian had not really been an unanimous stand amongst the Dusk court fae. It was only a matter of time before she clashes heads with their High lord, once the question of everyone's... integration ( or lack thereof ) becomes a hot topic in their next council meeting.
the Gaean emissary smiled to the little group & found herself panicking internally.
"Well, good! That's good, isn't it? That way we can all be friends now." her smile widened & she wouldn't let the panic show.
could they all be friends?
With Kabir's sudden upgrade, she doubted the other courts looked at it beneficially ( especially when she, herself, didn't know how she felt about it, but positive was not how she'd label her sentiment regarding the power-up ), but she didn't want to poke the proverbial - or given Liu Yan's pet, actual - dragon & ruin the pleasant evening they've all agreed to share.
"Let's sit & have a drink, please. We talked so rarely these past few days, I want to know what everyone's up to?" Xue offered, taking a seat by the table & motioning for others to follow her.
there would be no talk of weirdly powered up kings, diplomatic treaties & potential integration or chaos or war, tonight under her watch, not if she had a say in it!

her gaze had closely followed that of the gaean fae, truly wondering what it was like to see a young, gentile king transform into a rather assertive one, but not in a manner one might considerable favorable. she was also certain she wasn't imagining the looks of concern that seem to settle in their gazes, whilst not knowing aurora had been studying their expressions.
the dusk femme had also not missed the manner if which the gazes around them looked to the gaean court. some accusatory, some confused, but aurora knew this was not something they planned with intention. who could have expected their king to gain such a wealth of power? it left her wishing to know how this had happened. was it their dusk lands reacting to so much magic? not from one high ruler but the rest of the seven?
the other's amusing remark draw a soft chuckle, it seemed the emissary's moods were cheered by aurora's offer. "ah, emissary xue, do not underestimate yourself. i, however, promise to not be cutthroat." she teases, she had offered with the intention of two chatting and enjoying a bit of reprieve, the game merely a means to relax her companion. "pleased you can join me, i was wondering when you and i would have some one and one time." with the chess pieces arranged, she turns her gaze to her companion, "how have you been faring?"

contrary to what many believed, carden was capable of doing his job, and doing it well. speaking with the different emissaries in other courts would be a good first step., even if they kept their cards close to their chest. carden gestures to the seats, inviting her to join him as he moves to sit down himself. " i agree. " this would be the meeting he needed to be the most careful in, the issues people were having were with the capital specifically. how was he going to go about this ? " have you spoken to the dusk emissary yet ? " yes, begin there.

"someone actually told you about the dragons?" they had been trying for ages to learn about the flying beasts and she just befriended someone to get the information. clearly a lot of them had been taking the wrong approach in getting their hands on this information. "the different colours have different ways of temperament, that is interesting to here. we need to figure out which is which. that is huge news to know."
malek was far from stupid enough to start testing which dragon was easier to approach, knowing that one wrong choice could leave him as a toasty pile of ashes as soon as he were to approach one of them. if only they could get their hands on some of their texts on the beasts. "have you by chance told this information to anyone else?"
"so i was right in my train of thought, though it's hard to say which one could be the softy and which one would not. at least with the information your contact has given you." that was a huge gain in knowing that they had specific ways of knowing which ones were more approachable than others.
"i think him shutting us all out is not going to help him. he has the potential, but if he is taking this all on by himself it will not end well. he does not know how to properly use his powers since gaining them back. it is currently a recipe for a disaster."
IT WAS definitely her fault they were discussing the larvae, but it was too late to back out now. Still, she nodded along to his words, agreeing with what was said & stifling down a relieved sigh when the topic shifted to dragons.
they were so much better to discuss.
Wang Xue nodded, humming lightly. "I've heard that, too! My Dusk court friend - well, contact really, but she's nice so we actually may become friends - told me their temperament varies based on their colour, but she wouldn't tell me which colour is which. She did say to steer clear of them, because not all of them are... friendly to the fae. Some of them attack before you can even utter a word." she chatted, but then added ;
"The can certainly be like that. I don't know what is it about the fae, but we always thing tough-looking things are actually nice on the inside. We're a lot like mortals in that way, did you know that?" she asked.
oh, not the king again.
Xue softly sighed, then shook her head at his question. "I don't know. Everyone keeps asking me what I think about it, but I'm just an emissary. No one tells me things. I think it's sudden & unbelievable, & honestly, I don't think it would last. If it does, it'll drive everyone insane, not just him."
he won't be able to adjust to the power - she just knew it.
"What do you think?"

eldar chuckled at her words and tried to think how a woman like her might feel having woken up to this utter mess. during his childhood and training he had had to face such violence, injustice and corruption that being brought to dusk court felt like dessert to him, but it was not the same to everyone, so he usually tried to lighten up the mood. " and have your instincts ever lied to you ? " he asked and only afterwards remembered the way she had almost walked into a tree with a smirk. " oh, we'll be fine, we must look on the bright side. how many people are here with us whom we might have never met unless we got stuck here together ? " he was a people person, so he was definitely having the time of his life.
eldar blinked at her and let out a chuckle, wondering if that might really be their clue for a way out. " that's an interesting thought, " he responded. " i would have never thought of that. "
" a lot of us are forced to change due to the circumstances, perhaps that's something you have to face, " he shrugged. " i personally do not find any problem to lean on others, but if you haven't found your brother yet and need a friend, i'm here. although, i do come with a warning, i'm not the most reliable, " eldar let out another laugh. " but i host gatherings, i can introduce you to other people, maybe they can also help look out for your brother. "
IT DEFINITELY would, but until proven otherwise, Wang Xue was used to thinking the worst of the situation. That way, when something good would happen, she'd be pleasantly surprised. "I have no true opinion on it, just a primal fear." she lightly chuckled, but added, "I'd like to think we are able to go home, but so far, any attempts have been completely unsuccessful." she sighed.
she wasn't new to her court, but she was new at her position.
"I haven't ben an emissary for a very long time. But, if we all came her ein only our nightgowns, then I'd suspect everyone here would be wearing Dusk court fashion. If they found a way to get our clothes here, then I'd reckon they'd get a way for us to go home, too, wouldn't they?" Xue asked.
"Hey, at least you have someone to rely on. I like my court, but they aren't very... familial to me. I am used to relying on my brother for everything & now I admit I'm a bit intimidated by everything that's happened recently."
her king's power up only made her feel anxious.

" i can understand that, although i don't share the same opinion of us being stuck here for good. that would be extremely underwhelming, " eldar responded. he would not be able to travel or get too far away from his family, but at the same time he would not see the court of dreams or his mountains, now, that was a scary thought. the possibility of that was frightening, but eldar liked to go with the flow. it had not been long enough for him to start worrying about it, if he ever would come around to it in the first place.
the dusk fae seemed to be quite resourceful, despite having such a large quantity of guests so suddenly. perhaps they were as curious about us as we were about them. " i'm quite certain that they tend to keep to their own side of the wing back at the palace or are walking around in riders leathers, so i personally don't think they're that hard to distinguish, but maybe. are you new to your court ? "
eldar shook his head. " no, everyone from my family is here. whether that is fortunate or unfortunate remains to be seen. "
WHY DID she not meet any of the Dusk fae? She couldn't really say. The first few days they were here, she was mortified, sticking to the members of Gaea like glue. It was only recently that she had come out of her shell & started to seek out members of other courts - she has had a few contacts here & there, so it was perfect opportunity to brush up on them, perhaps even expand them
"Truthfully, I was a bit terrified when I woke up in the middle of actual nowhere & had to meet people no one knew even existed, our folk tales aside. It was a bit overwhelming for me, though right now I am slowly coming to terms with a very scary thought that we're all stuck here for good."
That was the problem. She had asked around, gave them detailed description of her elder brother, but no one has seemed to have seen him. Was he hiding from something? He wouldn't be hiding from her, would he? Whatever happened in this world she had always had her brother to count on & she had hoped he felt the same about relying on her - even if she was his younger sister.
"I will certainly try asking the Dusk fae, once I work out which one of us are the Dusk fae." Xue lightly chuckled, then asked ;
"Do you have family here? Are you you searching for them, like myself?"

the gaean emissary was an interesting little girl. part of him was reminded of his own daughters when he saw the female in the forest. knowing that him coming across her was probably not what she had imagined to happen when she had stepped foot in the forested area of the dusk court.
"so there is no threat to the trees then?" he chuckled in his question to the other. "larvae? as in bugs? perhaps they could be dangerous to the trees. however i do believe that if they were a threat to the vegetation of the dusk court that their own court would be doing something about it."
"a little bit of a mix of both." he admitted to the younger fae. it didn't hurt to know the land that they had been occupying since they had still remained trapped within the court. "certainly some incognito espionage is better done at night. the use of the dark and shadows to become near invisible as you move the forest is better of course. though i suppose i wasn't trying to be stealthy."
IT WAS a welcome thing, a familiar face. Though, given the familiarity as a level of embarrassment, it's more embarrassing, than it would have been had it been a complete & utter stranger. Having the commander of Gaea, a part of inner circle no less, to see her unfortunate affair with a tree was truly something to be shy about.
But, then again, it was also a bit hilarious & if anything, she could chuckle at her own expense.
"I would be surprised & probably fall nose first to the ground, as I completely made that story up." Xue chuckled, then untangled her hands from the tree & wiped her palms against her skirts, "I just needed a quick excuse & I think I read something about the larvae in one of the old texts, & the word itself just sounds... iffy. Larvae." she stretched out the ae.
"Have you come out for a walk or are you doing some incognito espionage?" she asked with a little grin on her face, the shyness from the incident completely vanishing.
"I'd reckoned those things are always done during the night, but I can't really say I ever been to one to know for sure."

eldar was never really the cautious type, but he had a feeling that maybe his words might make the lady before him rethink going in the woods all by herself in still quite an unfamiliar court. it was not just them being misplaced, there were plenty of others who might want to use this situation for their own selfish purposes. he could tell on the spot that she wasn't a local. the dusk court fae themselves had probably explored every inch of their land already.
" and why is that ? " he asked, his eyebrow arched with the question. he had met plenty of dusk fae, but none of them of the sort of importance that xue might prefer to interact with. most of them were the common folk who tended to gather around the sort of establishments that eldar preferred to spend his nights in. the fae of court he was going to stay consciously far away from. he was not to get involved in any politics at any cost and he was not going to ruin his brother's plans or intentions, whatever they were. at least he would try to stay away from it.
" the pleasure is all mine, " he responded softly and smiled back as the two of them walked, his eyes roaming around the path as he listened to her talk. he could empathize with her. eldar would have so much harder of a time if he was stuck here without knowing where his family was. " you should ask around. i feel that the dusk court definitely knows all it's new residents. "
HE WASN'T wrong thinking that. If they all lost their powers once, who is to say they won't lose them again? It was a very terrifying thought, but it was something worth considering. They were all getting along better when their powers had been locked away, plus they'd all been a lot more cautious to offend - or initiate any attacks. Perhaps having their powers locked away would be a blessing ; at least until the strange magic propels them all back home.
she wondered how it worked.
If sleep brought them here, who is to say tonight won't be their last night here? But, thinking in that way, who is to say all of their nights won't be spent in here? Why is to say they're not stuck here for good? She doesn't really know how she feels about it, not yet.
"I haven't really met a Dusk fae, at least not that I'm aware of. Though, it's not for the lack of trying, it's just that I haven't really met any of the fae holed up here in the first place, which is strange for an emissary, I'll tell you that." Xue chuckled.
She had met a few fae - some of them kind, some of them fun, some of them downright terrifying, but none of them could be said to be Dusk fae. She'd felt whiffs of Spring, Summer, Winter & Dawn, but no Dusk, not yet. Maybe they were all shielding themselves from her - maybe no one in the island truly met anyone from the Dusk court, their ruling family & inner confidants.
who's to say they weren't all illusions?
"We shall & I'm pleased to have met you." Wang Xue smiled widely, then answered the question ;
"I'm looking for my brother. It's been some time since he's left Gaea & I can't seem to find him anywhere. I figured he might've beaten me to this place. He could've been in any of the courts when the... uh... sleeping thing occurred." she explained.

eldar was simply glad to have made her light up, even though it seemed that she had no issue making herself laugh either. it was in his nature to be liked and be a good company to anyone, especially when he was meeting someone new. though he was not exactly sure what had really been amusing, when he was just trying to understand her better. she already seemed like a peculiar and interesting person to him. " i'll trust you on that, " he responded with a nod. " but considering all things, we lost our powers for a long time and so it's best to be cautious. makes me think anything could happen to any of us. " it was an unsettling thought for him, one that he despised thinking himself, but it was the truth. they were at the mother's mercy in a more literal sense than ever.
" i have been keeping to myself mostly, but there's probably a nice dusk fae that you could ask to help you and teach you these things if you're so worried, right ? it's not bad to ask for help. " how smart and mighty he sounded, only if he took his own advice at times.
his head cocked in interest at her statement. " who are you looking for? and why do you think they're here? " he questioned. " alright, wang xue, i'm eldar if you didn't already know. " eldar smirked, a little bit of his confidence peaking out, and gestured towards the path. " shall we ? "
XUE CHUCKLED at the question. What would a nap solve? Well, she hoped them being stuck here - if a nap brought them here, she'd figure it'd be the thing to teleport them back, as well. Though, she didn't really know how she felt about it. It's not like she met anyone here, & she didn't even manage to find her brother yet.
The chuckle turned to a soft laugh at the words. "I don't need a healer, thank you. I'm really fine! No bruises or broken bones, & I doubt a fae would sprain an ankle on something like a tree. It's not like it attacked me." she chuckled again at the thought.
The question made her pause, lips pursed. She wasn't scared of the unknown - if anything, she was a bit excited about it ; very rarely does something this new happen to a fae. A new court? It's quite literally been millennia since it happened, not even the fae remembered it.
"Well, no. It's just that this is all very new & as an emissary I should know things about courts, right? Like customs, foods, basic etiquette. I just can't help but to feel antsy about it - I know nothing of these fae. What if I offend them?" she mused, but the added after a minute's thought.
"Plus, I'm kind of looking for someone."
perhaps having an extra pair of eyes to look would be helpful.
"Oh, I get that. Too many warriors i such a confined space isn't a good thing." Xue smiled, then nodded at his offer.
"Of course! If it's not a bother, of course. I'm Wang Xue."
