This is a companion piece to Love is a Liar's Game. Beel's Gluttony is not restricted to only food. He's avoided even kissing OC to prevent himself from becoming a bottomless pit for her love, which has ruined plenty of his relationships prior. But when her and Belphie finally become intimate, and his brother can't stop talking about her (or keep his hands off her), a strange, sour taste won't leave his mouth. It's jealousy. (If this is donated to completion I will also post the Belphie oneshot I already finished, Breathless!)

Emmaline scrunched her face. “Yeah, I did. He seemed a little pissed. Wonder what that was about?”

Mary threw an arm around Lily’s shoulder. “If he can’t handle our girl beating him, then that’s his own fault. He should learn to handle a strong woman.” 

Mary laughed. “From what I hear, he’s very good at handling women, strong or otherwise.” She wiggled her eyebrows at them, making Marlene and Emmaline giggle.

“Mare, are you admitting to being his secret girlfriend?” Marlene looked pointedly at Mary. “Have you been whiling your nights away writhing beneath him?”

“Mmm, I wish.” Mary linked her arm with Marlene. “But alas, it’s not me. Not this time.” 

“Who do you think it is?” Lily asked, unable to help herself from asking. She may know who it was, but that didn’t stop her from wanting to track her friend’s investigation. “I know you’ve considered it.”

Mary looked smug at the suggestion. “I’m still narrowing down my options. It can’t be just anyone, considering he’s so secretive about it.”

Today's WC is still marginally better than I have been doing, especially given that I was being constantly distracted by an aching back that wouldn't let me get into any of my three (3) writing positions and then by a headache that threatened to break into my home and stab my mother.

I did the math. If I change my daily goal from 1800 to about 2000, then I can still reach novel length by the end of the month. Originally, I was going to tell myself I could write about 13000 words in a day but then I realized that was insane, even for someone like me who never leaves the house. Plus, I was in pain, and I don't plan on writing over 40 pages tomorrow. I should have reached the halfway point, but no. I'll have to make do. I might have to do 2200 on some days.

Anyway, excerpt. Today was a lot of dialogue, tomorrow will be more memory shenanigans leading up to the midpoint when the ghosts get more vicious and they (spoiler) realize that what they're looking for is probably on the fourth floor.

Elle swallowed nervously as she dumped the water from the bowl,paying careful attention to making sure she didn’t lose any berries. “I already know the reason. I feel guilty because of the way I treated her,” she said after a few moments of silence. “I thought she was losing her mind and I treated her more like a nuisance than a person. I had the selfish notion to think she was acting that way just to get to me and then it turned out she was acting that way to protect me because she was already on the path of discovering the truth about the Shadow Walkers and she didn’t want to put me in danger if the people really behind the murders figured out what she was up to.” The words started to spill out of her mouth as if she had no control over them. “And then she never came back and I never got to talk to her about any of it and if none of this would have happened I would never have looked deeper into it and I would have just gone on thinking she was crazy and she brought it upon herself by leaving in a hurry like that and then I feel even worse about it because I know I would feel that way about it and be completely ungrateful for the sacrifice she made for me and keep thinking she was the same mentally unstable mother I grew up with for the rest of my life.” Tears had begun to slip down her cheeks. “And I never even got to say goodbye,” she said as her voice broke. She dropped the bowl in the sink and covered her eyes with her hands as she began to sob.
