I said that some records didn't fulfill their promise of the sequels thanks to the design behind the original LPs, but some didn't, because, hm, reasons? For instance, why didn't Robert Plant continue with The Honeydrippers? He considered the latter to be one of his favourite projects and the EP stays as a marvelous piece of a throwback rock.  Moreover, his voice never sounded better than here, you could practically see him remodelling his career into that of a crooner, he fits the vocal mode perfectly. Sure, there are still some hallmarks of the 80's doing the 50's, the production's way too clean, yet the entire thing just soars into the heights many of his contemporaries struggled to reach, when they went into a nostalgia trip.

One thing you notice with Robert Plant's career is that he looks into the future, even though he respects the past. Still, he doesn't do pale facsimiles of that, when he gets to do the covers of the era that influenced him, he finds his way into these songs. He deployed this quality on many projects of his, includin The Honeydrippers. The latter might be seen as a particularly odd proposition given the fact we're talking about Robert Plant, yet we mustn't forget he always felt like someone who could share a bill with someone like Elvis Presley. Nonetheless, the music by the group doesn't resemble a throwback, you could see the entire endeavour as a homage that manages to find the thin line between the adulation and the mockery.
